I can’t be bothered to specifically check every single one and record exact amounts (even though I’ve only got 6), but I know its nothing special on any of my characters.

Oh, I wouldn’t have bothered to do it fresh. It’s just that I have a Word document where I keep salient details that don’t change too often on each alt that I don’t want to have to individually look up each time or recreate if something’s lost, such as their game birthday, their build, the size of their bags, etc. When I started running around getting HP on each in preparation I added it to the list so I could decide at a glance who to work on next. It only takes a moment to jot the info into the document.

An example entry:

Salvina Lucia (di) Bette Sept 30 1296 – July 25 – Whispers – Quaggan – PS done – Inspiration 123, Dueling 133, Domination 223 – 4 20’s/2 18’s/1 invis 15 – sp 114/189 (116 HP)

How are we supposed to do this when WvW is already shut down?

This announcement while helpful is really late.

I don’t know much about WvW queuing but I’ve just gone in my guild panel while standing in Rata Sum and set the Siege Suit and Catapult into the queue. With a couple of banners finishing in 6 hours, the two sieges should then be in processing as of launch and thus become scribe recipes.

I didn’t have to set foot in WvW to do it.

As of now after doing Solaxo’s HP rush last night (he has another tonight, in low level zones):

Human Thief 214
Norn Ranger 101
Norn Engineer 193

Human Mesmer 116
Sylvari Mesmer 107
Asura Mesmer 103

Human Necromancer 101
Sylvari Necromancer 190
Asura Necromancer 101
Norn Necromancer 250 (but I didn’t unlock all the core stuff and she’s only done 70 challenges so she’s on the low side … drat, should have taken -her- on Solaxo’s thing)

Charr Elementalist 100 + some from last night that I didn’t document yet

Human Warrior 100
Sylvari Warrior 103

Human Guardian 104
Sylvari Guardian 204

plus one lower level human elementalist who I’m not counting.

So yeah. Gonna take some work to get hold of elites for all.

If it turns out I can play elites fairly soon, and if doing the LS provides mastery xp, then I might be able to aid. So please keep me in mind … just allow for a week or two of my being utterly distracted before I can sink the time into repeating achieves.

Start lvling Mes/Nec or wait for Revenant

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Well since you can start Revenant in just under 26 hours from now if all goes smoothly with the launch, you may as well wait. Possibly catch up on sleep tomorrow so you can binge play as of release.

Both necro and mesmer are tons of fun though, in my opinion — it’s highly subjective and every profession has its cheerleaders and its decryers — so you could work on one of them a bit if you have the urge tomorrow. I’m partial to necromancer because reaper is so glorious, but if you can handle more complex keyboard dancing than I can, mesmer (my favorite vanilla prof) leads to chronomancer.

If nothing else you’ll repeat some events and such as you level each profession and thus get a comparison as to which you most enjoy out in the field.

I’d imagine you could wait one week to use it just to be sure they don’t add new ones you like more. Meanwhile it acts as a useful preview as well as a way to document your character sliders if you didn’t in original creation. You can use it over and over on alt after alt as long as you cancel the changes rather than confirming them.

Have you read through https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/cdi/CDI-Character-Progression-Horizontal/first ? A lot of how the elites shaped up came out of that community discussion, so while they may not have been marketed that way it certainly was the forum community impression.

I do think (though I’m not sure) that Mike and Colin talked about horizontal progression for characters in the original HoT announcement at PAX South, as part of why there would be no level cap raise.

Donari.5237

It is early! I say as a retired person who tends to sleep in until anywhere from 8:30 to 10 depending on how much my husband’s getting ready to head out to work disturbs me … two decades of being at work by 8:30 am near killed me and I’m still enjoying the rest I get now. (I’m a night person. My brother, he’s up by 6 or 7 am and down for the count by 10 pm but I can stay up much later than that).

But launch is 3 am (eastern) for me so I’ll be napping tomorrow afternoon/evening and setting my alarm for … I dunno. 2 am? Enough time to get ungroggy again and settle in at the keyboard.

I keep worrying they’ll launch early like they did for head start, but since they’re already launching as early on their announced release date as they possibly can and they have scheduled a live stream of it happening, it’s probably not really worth fretting over. But I’ll be sad if I settle in at 2:30 or so, flex my fingers … and boom, it’s been out for hours.

None of us can answer that since we have no idea where in the jungle the 40 plus Hero Challenges may be lurking, or how long it will take to get the travel masteries needed. Heck, we might need some Hylek and Exalted masteries to be allowed in some places — won’t there be some Exalted signs we can only see once we invest in the mastery and those let us through some barriers? Could be HP on the other side.

We don’t know how easy the first 20 HoT HP will be, either, though you only need 20 if you have 200 base game HP already.

Otoh it’s entirely possible that 200 points will cover you up to GM traits and the rest will go to runes and skins, at which point you certainly can play as the elite even without a full unlock. I’m sure hoping that Daredevil can at least get to the first GM dodge, since the lotus daggers are my preference anyway.

It wasn’t a blog, it was in Dulfy’s summary of the live stream that had a comparison of the two halls. The airship part was towards the end (I know because I didn’t see that part until I looked at Dulfy as I got motion sick from the stream and left a little early).

I’m sure it’s not a moving airship, but it is one you can walk around on and in to judge from the screenshot and I see no reason one couldn’t put guild hall decorations in it to furnish it.

Anet Game Card ever?

Donari.5237

What do you mean by a game card? Those usually are to get time in a game, right? So they work for subscription games where people have to keep paying for access and would not work for this game’s purchase model.

If you mean a card that gives you gems (to get things in the gem shop), those do exist and have from the beginning.

I’m not sure they could manage a gift card that acts as cash for your account, especially since the only things they take direct payments for are accounts (including expansion upgrades) and gems … if you’re just looking for a way to give the expansion to someone else, you can buy the code (including via a physical box at places like GameStop) and send it to them for them to use.

So, from scratch, is the number 250 HP or is the number 400 HP?

I’m not too worried on my two mains, whom each have nearly 400HP extra after my skills and specialization have been fleshed out to where I want them. I figured the points would become more useful at some point so have sat on them a long time.

Unfortunately, HP seems to be character bound, as they should be, I suppose. So, for a new alt, I have enough scrolls to start a new 80 with 26HP, so I’m more concerned in this case, what the cost is from scratch. Is it more time effective to level to 80, then use my 76 scrolls for HP. I’m thinking probably. Opinions?

The number is 400 after you unlock all your current traits and skills. So, get to level 80 and fully unlock, then get 400 more points. Scrolls won’t get you HP either, they’ll get you spirit shards. Your mains will have to buy everything with their points, not just 3 trait lines and 2 skill types (eg), before they can open the elite.

You will have to do in-map hero challenges, or rank up in WvW.

I’ve seen a couple of comments about having seen some not too hard points to get to in beta. Those were mastery points and had nothing to do with hero challenges.

Hopefully they just didn’t have the hero challenges showing for beta and there will be a couple in the first maps. But no, we did not see a single hero challenge in beta, which is why people were thinking Pact Tyria was the only source until Colin’s post today.

So … 45 minutes to several hours.

Well I feel like a huge fool for spending the last couple weeks getting all the hero points on several alts with prominent elite specs. I could have just waited and gotten far more per hero point challenge if i did absolutely nothing and waited for HoT. Then I’d just have to do around 40 instead of 254. On six alts. And it’s worse for some of the other altaholics around here.

Rage aside, why are they only telling us this now? We’ve been asking for months about how many hero points, discussing our plans to actually play through the story/jungle with our elite specs, and the devs choose 3 days before launch to tell us.

You’re going to be using those points on other masteries. Like 400 just to unlock your class specialization, then the others on things like mushroom jumping, precursor crafting, gliding, and etc. So, definitely not in vane to get those HPs.

Not quite — you can’t spend HP on masteries. Only on traits/skills/elite skins and runes.

But it’s not wasted, especially if 200 points makes you a viable Elite and then you only need 20 more jungle HP’s done for your full unlock. Less zerg rushing needed! More time to just explore and experience!

Noooooo….Colin…..difficulty wise the expansion is only for the top notch players….players like me, players like me who are clutzes… will never get a chance at the Elite specs…I am seriously about to cry here.

I bought the expansion, I did the Betas, I fell in love with Reaper, and Berzserker, and scrapper….I, I, I have been farming Hero Points on all my 33 plus characters like a mad thing….I learned to Jump up to Vistas well enough to get Map Complete on one of my characters, and now…..now I am told that the door to the elites have been slammed shut in my face.

Look at my account and you will see all the work I have done. Look at my buying History, I have been a..what do you call it?..a whale? I have played almost every day for three years….

I, I, I am sorry I am old enough to your Grandma and have lousy coordination…Darn, I am crying now…seriously. I was looking forward to this so much……

Lisa.

I could have written this. I am exactly like you. I love this game. I play almost every day. I have lousy coordination and many facets of the game are not available to me through my own limitations. I am not even sure I will be able to play in the Jungle due to the motion sickness that hit me every beta weekend after only a few hours in those tight quarters.

But, even if I couldn’t make through the jungle content I was so looking forward to the new specs… the scrapper.. the tempest.. etc. Which I found out today won’t be available to me.

How disappointing.

I offered to Julischka and I offer to you, join me (NA) for some HP unlocking fun. I’m not uber in my reflexes either but I can manage most any PvE that doesn’t involve timed jumps Add me in game and poke me once HoT launches. I expect to be living in the game as of launch!

I can’t help with the motion sickness other than sharing my camera settings. I get super queasy if my camera’s too close to my character while moving (I swear, I can’t watch Wooden Potato vids any more because I get so ill, and I had to leave the last live stream early when all the moving around in the guild halls got to me). But with my preferred zoom outs? No problem at all.

As a WvW focused player, this is completely unacceptable. The unlocking is totally random and will take a LOT of ranks to unlock everything for each of my many alts that I play frequently. You could easily spend weeks on one elite spec, only to have it be unusable because you don’t have the correct traits unlocked. This coupled with the removal of rank consumables makes this absolutely horrible.

This will increase the toxicity of WvW so much, as you can easily waste an entire day fighting against a server that simply will not let go of any objectives.

I think you misunderstood. You’re not getting random traits unlocked, you’re getting random PvE hero challenges unlocked without having to enter PvE zones. You can spend the points gained on any traits you wish.

Imho, Necro. Because then you’ll unlock Reaper the fastest! (That said I’m taking my Thief Donari in first for initial exploration and mastery unlocks, simply because he’s got first dibs on all new content even though he’s a low dps squishy man. At least he’s fast and stealthy. … oh and he doesn’t get first dibs on raiding. Thief or Daredevil, he’s not going to be terribly effective in a raid and I won’t bring down 9 other people).

Grind is really anything you feel is unnecessary mindnumbing. By definition it is doing the same thing over and over again. This is a very real concern, in that you must also level masteries just to access a lot of these hero challenges. We know this is required. It may also be locked behind story. Even if not, there is still the masteries to contend with, unless the gliding, etc., are all account based? Then it shouldn’t be ‘too’ bad to get 40 hero challenges worth 10 points each. Anything else, I’d also say this is a grind just to unlock an elite spec, and oh, you have to do it for every single character you want to unlock them on. This is the very definition of grind.

They are account based. Even the mastery points you commune with are once per account. So get gliding on one alt, everyone will be able to glide thereafter the moment they enter the jungle, even alts not yet made.

I can even get you Mumble information so we can chat our way along. Three of my alts in need are mesmers, even, so I can aid via portals when on them. Does spending the very first point on the line give me the ability to wield the new weapon?

It should, since the first minor trait gives you that. But then you’ll only have two usable trait lines (the core ones) to go with your weapon, and no traits aimed at that weapon’s use.

Ok, so my 250 points on my reaper-ready norn necromancer have to get eaten up buying all the traits and skills I didn’t spend on yet, and everyone I have at 189 needs to go get the DT/SW HP. Plus it sounds like I will have a lot of alts needing to explore the jungle. Sigh, the problem with having 15 80’s …

Will we still be able to do the unlocks without doing the WvW HP? Especially as those maps are changing and won’t have HP any more maybe?

The random roll for this week already happened and we’re seeing on our internal servers that week ones missions rolled a mix of PvP and WvW missions for the first three mission slots that guilds have unlocked once you’re able to access the expansion (as you unlock deeper into your guild hall, you’ll be able to unlock more mission slots). We wanted to make sure everyone knew this information ahead of time.

Colin, is it possible that the favor requirement for guild hall expeditions could be waived for the first week of HoT release? Either that or the first guild hall expedition could cost only gold, not favor.

As it stands my guild won’t know if we can even attempt the Guild Hall expedition until Friday evening and we’ve had a chance to see what the misisons are, and that’s far too late to schedule anything for Saturday.

Why not schedule it with a backup plan? Do missions if you can, if not have another guild activity planned.

I don’t know if this question was asked or not, but are we able to get favours from guild missions if a guild has already done their missions for the week. Since the reset for guild missions is on Monday, and HOT is release on Friday, can we do Guild Missions to get favours before Monday?

I think the answer is an implied yes, in that over the weekend the three missions available will be a PvP/WvW mix from the new system. Thus guilds able to do non-PvE missions will get a few days more than pure PvE guilds to accumulate the favor they need to kick off the guild hall claim mission.

Sounds like this will fix the mesmer issue with that one boss in Hidden Arcana (the one where you get a shield by killing the right color mini mob so you can enter the death zone to dps the boss).

I just did this boss today with my messar, but I not notice a problem, or do you mean by the fact, my illusions could not harm it due to dieing in the field right away.. Because of that, I mostly focus on the other attacks.

That’s exactly what I mean. It’s not impossible with a mesmer, I soloed it with one on my second or third run through without tweaking my build (I’ve done all the chapters with Thief/Guardian/Mesmer to have a variety of options for achievements), though it certainly took a lot longer than with other professions. But believe me, the forums were on fire for a while with mesmers kvetching about that one fight since most of their damage came from their minions and the minions died in a fraction of a second.

So it’ll be interesting to try that fight with the change in place. If nothing else, it will be a very controlled environment to test the change.

I don’t see it as a problem either (then again I don’t WvW). But I think the issue is that if you don’t have any WvW ranks, you can get your first few random HP five times faster than if you’ve already ranked up.

I dunno, I think that even the most dedicated WvWer could likely just go grab five HP in PvE in maybe fifteen minutes if that, which should be faster than a neophyte WvWer could gain five ranks.

[Question] Season 2 Living Story End Date

in Living World

Donari.5237

Every indication is that LS2 is permanently available, as are DT/SW in their current incarnations.

It may be a while before you find enough people running the SW map to do VW, though, as everyone will be off doing the new shiny stuff. The events in DT/SW are not LS-related, they’re just the mechanics of the two maps. You can farm them without ever touching LS. Again, though, they’re not meant for solo play so if you want to experience the maps with enough others around you likely need to do them this week.

As for doing LS2 in a rush, well, as I say you should be able to play it forever once you have it. But you might want at least a story run through (I could host you through that this afternoon and Wednesday afternoon if you’re NA) so you understand what’s happening in the HoT LS. Though that could spoil the experience a little for when you want to do it for rewards, and you wouldn’t be in control of dialogue speed or object interaction, nor would you get the fun of figuring out what to do next.

edit: I’m heading off to non GW2 stuff for a bit, so convert “this afternoon” to “this evening.” (Eastern time).

Well, it’s sort of explained, in that Anise tells him to be her spy. And then we do a mission with him to rescue Caithe’s squad.

But I don’t recall anything in those sequences saying he was going to tag along with us. Now, in the opening story for HoT when we run into him that could be when he hooks up with us. However, the dialogue comes across as him already being more integrated into the group. There’s no “hey, you again” comment.

I’d be more specific about how the scene feels but I know some people don’t want spoilers on story details.

World points are account bound, not character bound, or am i not understanding what your saying?

World Hero Challenges are character bound. World Mastery Points are account bound.

But it’s the Hero Challenges people need to do for Hero Points to spend on traits and skills that are under discussion here.
