Beta characters will be wiped?

The closest I’ve seen was in ArcheAge, where character creation was so complicated that you could save your settings as often as you wanted while you crafted your look. The saved files could then be sent to other people and they could load them to instantly have the appearance you’d created.

Then of course in game you looked only vaguely similar to what you’d made in the creator. But at least you could preserve all the work of making the alt; I used files made in beta to make my live launch characters. It affected appearance only, not gear, levels, stats, class, anything of the sort.

GW2’s creator is actually fairly simple compared to most any MMO save WoW that I’ve seen; in WoW you pick a face, pick a hair, pick colors, done. (And horns etc for things like Tauren). So it’s fairly easy, relatively speaking, to screenshot your GW2 sliders and replicate them later on a new alt if you wish, though some things will be subtly off.

I would say “3 participating in the specific event” means all in the same world at the same time, as that specific event won’t be happening cross world.

I’m not 100% sure but I think they said it was a new profession that would go to 400 for now, and I believe it will use a crafting slot.

I’m happy I bought the craft slot expander during the Anniversary sale. Any of my alts can pick up Scribe.

Are there WvW guild missions that can possibly be completed in Edge of the mists at all?

Just double checked w/ the team on this – you cannot do these while in EoTM.

You can however have people in different worlds running missions simultaneously for the guild that all contribute. They simply only need to have 3 guild members participating in the specific event for it to count towards the mission – regardless of which world.

So if i understand it right. if my 3 man guild that is from 3 servers would all do the req event from the wvw mission. it would count as having been completed by the guild. regardless that the 3 of us were not in a party at the time or even online at the same time.

I think you got that wrong. The three people have to all be on one server doing the mission for it to count as done by the guild. If you had three people on one server and three on another, you could do them separately.

If the missions are timed, then the teams need to be working simultaneously, not hours apart. I don’t know if they’re timed for under one week, though.

You wouldn’t need them retroactively for HP already gained since all they do is gain you a random HP. For rank, maybe, to let you be on par from past effort along with those who have spent the PvE time to get the HP.

Hopefully at least one of the proofs/consumables bought with proofs will be account bound since WvWers haven’t had a chance to use the system yet to catch up. However, since in PvE you have to go around with the specific character you want to gain the HP on, I could see them making it character specific in WvW as well. After all, we don’t get to farm the Hero Challenges on a perma stealth high speed thief and then hand them to our other alts.

Would this be like the Living Story episodes that came out last year, in which you had to login in a certain time frame in order to unlock them or will it be like the main story in which you can do it at your own pace? I ask cause I wanna do Halloween stuff and then take my time enjoying all the new content in the expansion.

If you’re going to log in anyway for Halloween, then this is a bit moot for you Nothing says you have to go straight to the new content. Being logged in unlocks it and you can do it months later as you wish, along with any new chapters that come out as long as you log into game once per chapter.

Helm-toggle in Outfit-window...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I disagree, Lahmia. In RP if you want to doff your hood or toss your helm on a table, you have to go through a whole lot of clicks on a panel that obscures what people around you are doing in order to get the hat off your avatar. And even if you don’t RP, it’s an issue when previewing armor for new looks (though less of one, if you have access to a skimpier helm that doesn’t vanish your hair when you are trying to see what clipping you’ll face).

I’d consider a helm toggle key (and an outfit toggle key) to be a real QoL change, not a laziness issue.

edit: Whoops, mixed this up with another thread. My point stands, though, and yes, it would be grand to be able to swap the helm on and off via the outfit given how many people prefer the outfits helmless.

The complexity of this depends on what the keybind will do. If it acts to simply toggle the state of the option for autotargeting (i.e. the state of the checkbox in the options menu), it would legitimately be pretty simple; however, I don’t believe we have precedent for a keybind like that, so it might be an argument waiting to happen.

This simpler version is likely all that’s really needed. And I think you do have a precedent of sorts: The old townclothes toggle. We had a bindable hotkey to swap from armor to townclothes. That wasn’t an options check box but it was a hero panel check box so on the face of it the principle is the same.

(Not aimed at you since this isn’t your area, but man, I do wish we had an outfit toggle hotkey, along with a helm toggle hotkey. Shoulders and gloves as a bonus, but outfit/helm would help sooooo much and hey, we had the same thing with town clothes!).

That’s cool! It does look like WvWers can’t prestock up the points this week unless they do it the old fashioned way but they’ll at least have the option come HoT.

Also of interest more generally:

“Combining 1 proof and 30 Badges of Honor yields 1 Notarized Scroll of Heroics.
Combining 5 proofs and 150 Badges of Honor yields 1 Notarized Scroll of Maguuma Heroics.”

So there will be hero challenges in the HoT areas. Which might in fact mean that the datamined 250 points for full elite unlock is accurate, alas.

Bad decision, really. How can I as a member of a multi server guild possibly do WvW guild missions with my guild. You should have had a PvE option the first week, not a WvW option.

How can a member of a multi-server guild possibly do WvW missions with their guild?

It’s WvW so of course you can’t do it with anyone not on your server silly. Also, Colin answered your question above. Multiple teams can contribute to WvW missions. I’m guessing many of the WvW missions will be to kill X amount of players or take X amount of camps for example.

You need to look up the concept of rhetorical question. Obviously I can’t do it with them on a different server.

Not with them, no, but per Colin’s post above you can field teams on each server that will contribute to the goal. So I guess if you have at least three guildies on another server they can join in and voice chat can knit it together into a group experience?

Trailers for the other elite specialisations?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I hope they do trailers even after the fact. All the original professions had a trailer showcasing abilities and it made them all look so fun. Granted, they put 80’s against level 1’s in choreographed situations but still …

And my favorite fan video in 2012, the one that hyped me beyond belief for the game, was Protectors of Tyria, using TSFH music with perfect pacing of cuts from the profession trailers. Alas the pacing was ruined when the filmer shoehorned in another profession or two once they were released, then s/he took down the original version so I’ll never see it again /weeps.

So if they do a nice little trailer for each elite, that’ll be something to link to new people wondering about the game even well into HoT.

I was looking for a solid yes/no/maybe redpost here, not speculation.

Unfortunately speculation, albeit informed speculation, is all other players can give you. And red posts don’t come on demand. The wily hunter of red posts will simply post the query in the politest possible manner and hope that other players will join in the thread enough that the hunter can chivy along more posts via continued thoughtful, politely concerned comments, and if a red poster has an answer and is allowed to give it and has the time to give it, voila! There could be an official answer!

Still, odds are that we have most of the client already. The hope mentioned in other threads on the subject is that we’ll get oodles more of it in the next few days so that slow connections can get hold of most of the data before the logjam on Friday. We don’t know exactly what will be needed because they’ve just given an overview, not the precise details of every ingredient. We probably won’t know the moment HoT launches, either, because you will have to get a lot of mastery tiers done before you can craft the legendary and until someone’s unlocked all the required tiers there will be some unknowns.

Put it this way: With everything else you’ll have to do to make the H.O.P.E pistol, you’ll have plenty of time to raise your craft skill if needed.

The thing is, that pip/crosshair is an integral part of an “action camera.” It’s one of the defining factors. The idea is that you will always shoot to the center of your screen and you move the camera around to move the target location into the center rather than moving your cursor around to find a target. So an indicator is needed.

I’m sure the reticule will vanish if you toggle off UI, so it won’t be in the way of screenshots.

Running without an elite?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

It depends on what’s involved in fully unlocking the elite skills and traits. If it takes 170 HP per, well, I haven’t got that yet for Ele, Ranger, Warrior, or Mesmer. Or Engie, but I’m very close on Engie, just some Orr left to go on him. Nor do I intend to grind out HP at this point other than finishing the Engie because I’ve been playing DA:I and I know that will go on the way back burner once HoT hits so I’d like to advance the story in that game while I can.

Otoh if playing through some story and having 100 HP is enough, I’m likely to open up elites on all my alts.

I’d think the only advantage to doing the dailies post HoT is if you do the 4 events in a zone one you’ll get one or two reward mats. Yay? And a disadvantage to waiting could be the game not even being accessible due to login server crashes, game server crashes, DDOS attacks, etc, thus causing you to miss the daily entirely.

So I’ll be getting my daily done asap Thursday after reset.

Donari.5237

Actually I agree that pure WvWers should have something that takes a comparable amount of time/effort to that required for PvE HP unlocks to get their HP (it’s far more a time issue than effort, really). I further feel that it should be something dedicated WvWers have already done some of. After all, we PvE’rs have had oodles of warning to go out and slowly gather HP at our leisure, pain though it is as the number of alts rises. Sure, it could turn out that we didn’t need to do that (cue unhappy postings) but at least we’ve had some general idea of what to do and even without dedicating ourselves to the process we’ve got a number of HP under our belts just from roaming the PvE maps.

So yes, I am happy WvW got removed from world completion (it helped the WvWers too, y’know, not having people using map slots up without helping the fight), and I hope WvWers can advance in their chosen game area. But I will point out that one reason to dislike the WvW experience is the derision PvPers aim at those who prefer cooperation over combat. So maybe you can stop the scorn and just accept that different people have different ways they like to play the game?

Go to the Training tab on the left side of the Hero Panel. Then click around on the tabs and lines until you see circles in the main field of the panel. You can unlock everything at level 80, though right now you might want to unlock the bare minimum needed for your build on the off chance that you’ll be able to use the spare points to unlock your Elite spec in HoT. You unlock your choice of traits and skills, going in order clockwise around from the top, either one step at a time or by clicking on the final step you want and spending all the points at once.

Then use the Build tab to select your three trait lines (two if you’re really saving up for the Elite) by clicking in the large area to the left of the line, then picking which of the lines you want in that slot. From there you click the little squares in each of the three tiers to pick your specific traits. Utilities will slot in the same way they always did once you unlock their themed circles.

Let us also consider the audience response. At the start of Joel’s presentation Twitch chat (almost never all that polite, to put it mildly, though ANet Twitch chat is muuuuch nicer nor others) the less respectful sorts were ragging on him. As soon as he began telling us what he had done with the camera, the mood swung solidly behind him and chat filled with singing of praises. He never got less nervous, he never focused down to a bullet point presentation, he spent a bit more time laying foundations than needed … and the chat adored him because he was showing Very Cool Stuff.

Similarly, when we first saw Seth describing Guild Hall mechanics, chat bloomed with unkind comments on his appearance (modded fast, but not fast enough). Yet when his direct, informative commentary took hold (he’s a fantastic presenter of information), chat swung over to the praising again. Dara’s puns have won her acclaim as well (I’m so happy that I enjoy punnage).

Check out the reactions to Josh and Hugh’s shenanigans as well. They’re loved most at their silliest.

So it certainly seems the Guild Chat audience values information and enthusiasm far more than spit and polish.

Note that if you are using Win7 you can set your bottom right calendar to show two clocks, your local time being one and — in this case — Pacific time being the other. I’ve named my second clock “ArenaNet” and can just toggle that display to see ANet local time whenever I wish.

It depends also on how you move. I mouse move, and turn by moving the mouse to the side. So the Clocktower, which is 100% right turns with zero time tolerance to lift my mouse back to the left side of the mat? I can’t do it even though my mouse sensitivity is so high I can send the cursor across two monitors with a small flick of my wrist. The first year I even cleaned off a lot of desk surface to the right and used a huge thin mouse pad and I still ran out of room.

No, I can’t WASD worth a darn.

So for me it’s harder than the other two (not that I am any good at the geysers either, I really do like to have a little space of time to line up my jumps and move my mouse back to center if needed). With the geysers you get some directional changes, and Not So Secret is more a matter of a long path with armed opposition and some tricky jumps onto narrow spots; neither has the sustained intensity of Clocktower.

That said, I think the Clocktower is amazing amounts of fun and I tried it for six hours straight the first year. Maybe just 30 minutes the second before conceding I still had the right turn problem and wasn’t going to overcome it.

Well, this isn’t the stupidest, but I am smacking my forehead at myself right now. In a somewhat distracted moment this evening I decided to unlock the final 100 slots in my personal guild bank since it won’t be happening in the new guild hall system. Note that I do not use the guild upgrade interface very much at all as I am not a leader of anything but my teensy little personal guild.

So I see the 10,000 influence needed to unlock it, go “yay!” and plop down 16 gold to bring my total up to 10K plus a little. Annnnd … I would have to do 20K more influence to do the architectural upgrade first, which would maybe finish before HoT’s launch so I could then queue the 100 slot cave.

Waste of 16 gold (and I’m not a TP baron, I struggle to get to 200 gold and then it all goes poof, eg right now I’m gearing up some ascended stuff). In my defense, the 10K figure was in clean white and everything below it was greyed out so I thought it was an available upgrade.

I think the gem store purchases automatically apply to your account.
