Maybe as a single player game. As for a MMO, crafting in GW2 itself is a puzzle game which requires community cooperation to solve. And the community is good enough to share it rather than keep it for themselves.

sole Guild member with HoT leaves?

Instead of letting players upgrade and customize their home instance as in other MMO, ANet’s answers are adding these features to a shared instance with guild in mind and known as Guild Hall.

Unlike home instance ANet gives it to everyone with no fees attached, Guild Hall requires guild members to earn it, starting w/ 100 gold. After you claim the land, you can put buildings and structures on it. However, it cost new currency, favor, which could only be earn through guild missions.

So to OP question, you can claim a guild hall w/ non guild members. However, one man guild unlikely can earn the new currency for the upgrades.

If you are solo leader and leave the guild, no one else can access your hall because non-member can only access through ferry using the party or scout UI.

Around a year after core game launch, ANet introduced the first major content update now known as season 1. The major villain in season 1 was Scarlet. The stories spread across several months and each month feature new map wide events. As the story proceeded, the new contents removed and only shown the aftermath.

Season 2 is the follow up of Scarlet aftermath. But unlike season 1, main stories were told through repeatable instance.

Season 1 contents are gone. Season 2 stories could be purchased from gem store.

"Mesmer is OP" - Facts vs Fiction

in Mesmer

Doug Whisper.2465

It seems to me that people hate Thief and Mesmer because both classes can by pass an implicit rule in game which govern the behaviors of other professions, i.e. both classes can unload burst damage at players’ will without keep staying within 240 range radius. Even though GW2 don’t have hard trinity, the design of weapon damages rewards flight in melee distance. For weapons based on the power stat, the difference in damages from 1200 range and 240 range are huge. Meanwhile, 900 range weapons usually come with condition components. As a result, players run power builds have to flight at 240 range to get their optimal damage. Those people perceive Thief and Mesmer op because both can unload burst the moment they just appear within the 240 radius and willingly disengage when the flight not in their favor. They feel unfair even though both classes in fact have lower overall dps in comparing to the others.

This goes back to the point that GW2 is designed with group flight in mind and not balance around 1v1.

The introduction of Revenants seems to be ANet attempt to address this problem. Shiro stance add high mobility to heavy armor class. Even 1h sword melee AA originally have range component but now removed because player feedbacks.

It is sad people just look at their build and push it farther rather than look at the rules which govern the whole game.

When will condition damage be addressed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Doug Whisper.2465

Doug Whisper.2465

I suspect the problem is due to, unlike direct damages, condition damages are not affected by distance. Following the high risk high payoff principle, burst through direct damage required fighting at 240 range. However, the strength of condition damages are flat regardless of the distance. In theory, someone could unload condition damages at distance to reduce the other health pool and follow up with a burst. In effect, the overall risk is lower for the playing a condition build vs the power one. In this case, the risk and return principle is violated.

Meanwhile, the reverse is also true. Direct damages across a distance by design is weaker than the ones in short distance. When a power build dueling against a condition build, the longer the distance between the flight, the relative loss in dps from the power build is much higher than the one with condition builds. Against, the risk and return of playing power vs condition build are not the same.

If this is the root cause of the problem, the question for ANet is how to find a sweet spot to balance both sides.

When will condition damage be addressed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Doug Whisper.2465

I don’t understand. Does it mean builds specialized in condition damage can generate dps even higher than the ones focused on non-condition damage? Or does it suppose that there should be a gap between the dps from condition damage and non-condition ones and currently the gap is not wide enough?

a bit too op?? Are you kidding? is just over the top in terms of 1v1, and in team fights offering lot of tools like portals, mass invis to help ress, and lot of buffs.

Aniway would not be a problem if it was only “a bit too op”. Problem is that is also the easiest class i’ve tried in this game. Yesterday it happened i duelled a warrior with my mesmer wich i didnt used for like what.. 2 years? Well i just fell asleep, there was nothing that warrior could do to win, every action stun i made was immediate, every skill and burst is an instant no cast time, it’s too easy to play cuz every single action can be done by pressing a button and it’s IMMEDIATE. Also too many skills available even when i’m stunned i can still phase retreaat? RLLY?? This is ridicoulous.
But what rlly make the mesmer OP is not only their instant skills no cast time no skill needed gameplay, but their amazing traits. I really couldnt chose sometimes, they looked so amazing and well synergizing with each other.

….

I am sorry your example is not a very convincing one. Your main is Warrior and your Mesmer has been idle for two years. That means in fact you are an experienced Warrior in soul duel against a low rank Warrior. You should win unless Mesmer is very poorly designed.

Besides, GW2 is built around the concept of paper-rock-scissors. There is always one build to counter another.

Furthermore, if burning is the new meta. Berserker is going to have constant access of burning. Whereas Mesmer mainly access burning through RNG. Obviously Mesmer is in disadvantage.

I found that the opposite is true. The increase in base condition damage of pet plus WHaO buff make ranger so much easier to play. Not to mention the new pets to be added after HoT while Mesmer only have one new phantasm. Furthermore F5 key does not bring new skills to Mesmer at all. And using F5 on Mesmer can be risky if trigger at the wrong time. Mesmer is very difficult to play well.

My thinking of the delay for one year content creation was more about clearing out the code base and writing the documentation. I am sure a lot of codes were just duct taped together at launch. But sending a program out to somebodies to run is very different from maintaining it internally. You also need to be careful about let loose of any trade secrets during the transfer. But the overall efforts would be good as laying out more robust code base for future expansion.

This game badly needs server merging

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Doug Whisper.2465

Doug Whisper.2465

The current problem is due to the higher the population in a server, the more the total of dps in that world. Players move to servers with more wins and low rank servers have fewer players. It becomes a virtuous circle.

To work around this problem, there should a cap or upper limit of total dps per server. The more the server populated, the more diluted the dps per player. In this way, small guilds will have incentive to move to less populated server because of the dps bonus.

I put sigil of frailty or strength on my GS to stack vulnerability or might. I have sigil of fire to get extra aoe.

AA on long range weapons always come with low dps. Guardian staff 1 can tag five targets but only at 600 range. Elementals fire staff 1 have aoe but very slow. The best one is Engineer mortar kit at 1500 range with aoe. But every thing on it is ground targeted and no AA. And it is an elite skill.

BTW, Mesmer GS 1 works on target beyond 1200 range but you need to manually press 1 to maintain it.

Random thoughts: why I just can't enjoy GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Doug Whisper.2465

Doug Whisper.2465

GW2 is built around its combat system which have a lot of depth in it. It is not something you can just pick up to do a quick match. ANet does very little to teach the combat to new players. Even if they want to, they simply cannot do it because there are too many combinations. Even skills rotation change if you run a different build. On top of that is the active defense and damage mitigation mechanic which require you to read the animation of your opponents to react accordingly. Not to mention how to trigger combo all by yourselves, the learning curve is very steep but rewarding.

If you don’t like the aspect of taking time to learn a class and how to get the last juice out of it, GW2 is probably not for you.

How to save dungeons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Doug Whisper.2465

If I was the designer and put together some interesting encounters in the dungeon. But what players want is to skip the encounters as quick as possible to get gold in the shortest time. How can I get motivation to keep developing contents for dungeon?

Dev are humans who need appreciation and have fun. When heart was broken, it would be too late to do anything to change people mind.

I suspect the main reason behind the shift away from dungeon development is how seriously ANet toward the development of narrative. Each dungeon itself need a backstory behind it. Besides bosses mechanic it also involves a lot of resources to develop including script writing and voice acting. When they remove those story elements in dungeon design, that is what we get in current raids and fractals.

Anti condition food

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Doug Whisper.2465

Doug Whisper.2465

Condition damages ignore toughness and armor. Therefore condition damages usually come with smaller values and usually reduce health over time, with exceptions of burning and poison which stack over intensity.

Condition damages can be mitigated just as direct damages. In GW1, there is a tactic to use weak conditions (hex) to cover strong conditions to render condition cleanse useless. In GW2, condition specialized builds can constantly applying number of conditions to exhaust any cleansing abilities. In GW2, active or preemptive defensive like dodge, blind, block, interrupt, and sheath are preferred in combat over reactive healing and cleansing.
