I find it fun to do torch combat when a torch is around,
shame you can’t have a torch as a permanent weapon

Not sure if it’s something you like, but unless running
in a zerg in WvW, it’s pretty hard at times. You could try WvW.

Suggestion for Banners

in Warrior

Posted by: DragonMind.2983

DragonMind.2983

Maybe just have the different banners create each their own
combo field, which are active until a banner is picked up or
runs out of time. A banner which is picked up occupies off-hand
and 4 skill slot becomes the current 2 skill from banner,
5 skill slot becomes ‘Plant banner’ (or what it’s called currently).

Maybe add this function as well:
Allied player picks up banner, receives a boon apropriate
to the type of banner picked up, until it’s timed out or
planted in the ground again.

A few seconds off of the warriors shield cooldown would be OP.

A block skill that works 1/10th of the time (without trait) and
with no 100% chance that it will actually block something,
is not what I would call OP, is the cooldown got reduced.

Now with that said, any changes or a remake that would make
the warrior shield skills better, but NOT OP would be fine :-)

DragonMind.2983

Warrior shield skills are fine and don’t need changing. They’re not overpowered or underpowered, but they are a strong choice (the best choice) in PvP. There’s literally nothing that deserves changing about the shield.

In PvE the issue is the metagame, not the weapon.

Since you take up specific playstyles/areas, my usage problem is in WvW.

Take two weeks off from producing new content and focus on balancing classes and improving the general gameplay.

People will be happier with a balanced game then a content update.

The people producing content wouldn’t be the same people to balance classes or to make improvements to gameplay systems…..

Maybe it should be the same people if it’s true that it’s two different teams,
at least it being two teams would explain a lot, …at least to me.

Back on topic, shield skills nontraited aren’t the best ever, and I think you have to devote a trait or two to make it shine. Its a pretty big part of your defensive play.

When I was saying the shield skills are bad, I do focus on the usability
versus the cooldown time, and not exactly the buffs from traits, which
only triggers on a block ….with the exeption being the trait that reduces
cooldown.

I like the idea of getting to choose which skills you want for the weapons. That would definitely add variety and personal play styles…..

That’s basicly what GW1 was doing, except skills where tied to a category.
Example:
Swords 5 (and then this category had swords skills you could equip),
each skills potency was to some degree defined by the number
located after the category (in this example ‘Swords’).

However not all categories was weapons in GW1.

I, among others thought they would progress with a similar system for GW2,
but using a more fine tuned version adapted to each weapon with some skills
to choose from(8-12 or something, with maybe a few proffession specific skills),
to put on your skill bar.

Excessive Ascended Rings

With the coming fractals update in the near future, has Anet thought of making some use for extra ascended rings? My all characters have all the ascended rings they need, so my bank is slowly filling those rings (36 atm and 61 pristine relics to buy more).

Selling them to vendor doesn’t feel very useful (1,78g for my rings). How about making at least salvageable for ascended materials (steel/dragonite for example) and ectos. Or let us forge them for a chance for some fancy fractal skin or whatever, but something more than just the option of selling them to vendor.

Well you could give some ascended rings to me :-P
…I got no ascended gear at all, if I remember correctly.

Shield skills

DragonMind.2983

Seriously?

Engineers have good shield skills but Shield Stance is like the best block skill in the game. 3 seconds, unlimited blocks, not limited in amount of blocks, can be traited to reflect, 30 (24 traited) second cooldown. There isn’t a lot of things I would trade my Shield Stance for in this game…

Shield Bash… meh, at 25 second cooldown for a stun, it could probably use an evade or a block during the charge animation, or have a longer charge to justify the cooldown… but Warriors are in a very very good position right now so I’m not going to complain too loud.

Also I’m really glad that Warriors get to block with their shield. I hate how Guardians cannot block with their shield. (But can with their focus!?) It doesn’t make sense.

Since I only can quote one person I chose you, as it seems to general cover
the comments/feedback given atm of writing this.

I am happy to read it’s only me that find warrior shield skills bad,
I never really had the use for blocking before it’s too late, and when
I finally thought I could, I was blocking no incomming attacks.

I might have forgotten to tell you what problems I have with the warriors
shield skills, to find them bad. Here is a short summary:
The only skill I ever found somewhat useful was the ‘Shield Bash’ skill,
since timing ‘Shield Block’ to be useful is as easy, as flying without wings.

DragonMind.2983

Well, the thing is, the classes are already balanced around having different amounts of HP.

If you change the baseline HP all of a sudden, you’re guaranteed to run into issues.

And even if you give everyone the same baseline HP, that will just make Armor the deciding factor…..

…which means no real factor, as armor(armor rating) has a super low factor in GW2.

A case for the Holy Trinity.

DragonMind.2983

I have read ALL of Yoh’s post(s), and some of the responses.

To me the problem with GW2 is NOT that it take away the holy trinity,
but more the fact that it went from a customizable skillbar in GW1,
to a more fixed skillbar …known to/from the holy trinity MMOs.

I am not saying they should implement 200 skills for each proffession
like they did in GW2, but a customizable skillbar provides the flexibility
which are needed, especially now that we don’t have the holy trinity.
It’s like 2 step forwards choosing holy trinity free style,
but 1 step back, changing skillbar flexibility to the fixed holy trinity style.

…and yes I know in those holy trinity MMOs you can put your skills
down as you wish on the skillbar, but you have the same fixed amount
of skills, as if they were fixed on the skillbar like in GW2.

NEW ADRENALINE MECHANIC (suggestion)

You gain 1 Adrenaline point for a kill.
Adrenaline points are reset to 0, when you get downed or killed.

Lvl(Max. 80) * Adrenalin points (Max. 10) * ‘each point is worth 2.5’
= Max. +2000 Defense (round down).

Adrenalin points (Max. 10) * ‘each point is worth 5’
= Max. 70% (+20% base, only applied if having more than 0 Adrenalin points)
chance to avoid condition to be inflicted on you.

Adrenalin points (Max. 10) * ‘each point is worth 2’
= Max. +20% damage.

This leaves space for some new traits as well, in the trait panel.

I would like to hear what you think, as I think this is more in line
with raging/adrnaline, and how I perceive ANet’s idea for a warrior.
(looking at all the proffessions and their mechanics)

Some of the values may need to be nerfed. [changed ‘rage’ to ‘adrenaline’]

extra buff tied to the sword dmg range. I would suggest +5% to crit,
AND make the katana a Warrior/Samurai only weapon.

A New Approach to a Balanced Warrior

in Warrior

Posted by: DragonMind.2983

DragonMind.2983

Well it’s time again. This time it’s…

Rifles. They’re boring. Some might say underpowered, some say very situational. I say they could use a heavy dose of fun.

Why are rifle’s boring? Well you sit there and you peck away from a distance, and every so often you get a big painful peck that often never connects.

My idea is to make the rifle much more aggressive.

Volley - The closer you are, the more damage it does. I think about 18th century battles and how inaccurate the muskets were, a volley was held off until opposing forces were relatively close to maximize damage. The skill could also track enemies moving around you instead of the skill ending early.

Crack Shot - Change piercing to ricochet(up to 3 targets). I think this mechanic is a bit more fun and makes hitting more than one target a bit easier to set up. Taking time to line your targets up doesn’t seem like a warrior type thing to do. Charging in firing wildly is more like it.

Now for the fun stuff

Rifle Butt - Changed to the adrenaline skill. Now stuns instead of knocking back(remember volley doing more damage up close?)

Prepared Shot (Replaces Rifle Butt on the #5 slot). – Prepare a powerful Rifle Shot. Prepared shot Does different things depending on how well prepared it is. Skill changes for every second it is charged.

-Less than 1 second – ill Prepared Shot – Fire an ill prepared shot that knocks back the enemy(so a double tap of the skill maintains the same function as Rifle Butt)
-After 1 second – Hastily Prepared Shot – Fire a Hastily Prepared shot that stuns your foe
-At 2 seconds(full cast) – Well Prepared Shot – Fire a powerful Shot that immobilizes your foe

Bayonette - Replaces Brutal Shot – Rush forward and impale your foe with with a bayonette making them vulnerable.

I think it would be a lot of fun charging in with a rifle like this. More utility(prepared shot/rifle butt), more damage(volley/crack shot), more aggressive, more fun. Yeah it gets rid of Kill Shot, but I never liked that skill anyways. I think it would be hard to make an accurate Kill Shot when pumped up on adrenaline anyways.

Edit: Some additional thoughts. Though the idea of these changes were to make rifle more aggressive, but they also allow for more defensive play as well. Bayonette could used to run away as well as charge in. Prepared shot can keep people away or hold them still and if they do get close, rifle butt is there to stop them.

This approach makes the rifle more involved, versatile, and usable.

I like your suggestions for a more ‘colorful’ skillset for the rifle,
though I don’t like the ‘Prepared skillshot’ with variable outcome
based on holding down the numerical key? ..for x amount of time.

Shield Main Hand. And more weapons.

in Warrior

Posted by: DragonMind.2983

DragonMind.2983

What I would really like to see in this game for warriors, guardians and possibly rangers, is the introduction of spears and/or polearms (or two-handed axes).

A spear could work as a high damage single target weapon that inflicts weakness or bleeds and has a bigger melee range compared to current one-handed weapons.

A polearm could work as a huge AoE powerhouse with high damage, but low mobility and average support (a middle ground between the greatsword and hammer).

I do believe spear is a member of the polearm family, with that said NO,
I personalyl would not like more weapons that root us as we attack, we already
got loads of them already, the rifle being one of the exceptions to the rule, if
not the only one.

I can’t remember what game it was, but there you wielded the shield in your right
hand because you had your weapon in the left, AND it served a purpose here,
because when clicking the left mouse button you attacked with the weapon,
clicking and holding the right mouse button you blocked.
This setup makes sense because usually we are more adjusted
to using the left mouse button, when clicking around.
(that is, if you are not left handed.)

Are we Warriors or Casters?

in Warrior

Posted by: DragonMind.2983

DragonMind.2983

For a game that is centered around mobility in combat
warriors melee skills are rooting them, you can choose to use
as much skill as you want, but when you are rooted due to
activating a melee skill, the enemy can get away, not being hit.
Which is 1 of 2 reasons why I do rifle combat in PvP. the rifle
only got 2 skills that root you, the shot that cripples and the burst.

How would you fix the warrior?

in Warrior

Posted by: DragonMind.2983

DragonMind.2983

I would want adrenaline which is our key mechanic,
to play a more important role, especially since armor
doesn’t do much, and I find we(warriors) are more
fighting Conan style, forced to run around in heavy armor.

I would like to see more adrenaline efficiency like Adrenaline health,
it doesn’t heal much though, here are my ideas for improvement,
involving adrenaline (now where the skills/traits should be placed
I will leave to you and ANet):
If you do not have a full bar, leave that adrenaline in that bar alone.

Maybe 3 different kind of (burst) attacks F1, F2 and F3
F1 uses 1 stage, F2 uses 2 stages and F3 uses all 3 stages.
To have some adrenaline management, which I feel is needed.

Adrenaline health(re-done): Heal 1% of full health on stage 1, each second.
Heal 2% of full health on stage 2, each second.
Heal 5% of full health on stage 3, each second.
Remember while maintaining the adrenaline, you can’t
use you your burst skills, thus I want to have some numbers
that make it worth NOT using your burst skills.

Furious defense: Each stage of adrenaline provides 5% or 10% damage reduction.
Remember while maintaining the adrenaline, you can’t
use you your burst skills, thus I want to have some numbers
that make it worth NOT using your burst skills.

We got a ‘forced’ trait for not having full endurance bars, maybe an endurance
thing like, Speed or roll: With a full endurance bar move 10% faster, stacks with
any other speed buff/trait.
