WvW no longer required for world completion

I think neither group is worse than the other.

There are the farmers that their get all angry if you disrupt their farm in PvE.

There are the jerks who run dungeons who kick at the first mistake and ask for ridiculous things for PUG runs.

There are the PvP’ers who can’t take losing.

There are the WvW’ers who abuse those who voice in map chat that they are just there for map completion and ask for help.

All groups have their jerks. Let’s not label one group as worst when none of us know every member of the other groups.

This is so very, very true. And this Us versus Them attitude in regards to PVE and WvW/PvP is not helping. There shouldn’t be any of this “Real” WvWers or “Whining PVEers.” We’re all players in the same game, even if we prefer different things about it. And now I’ve gone all motivational speaker. Look what you’ve done, internet. :|

Fastest way to level nowadays

Let’s not derail this thread over the NPE, please.

When I want to fly through leveling I go to Edge of the Mists with a bunch of buffs to slap on. Also, you can grab green boosts from the laurel vendor that stack with your yellow ones. Just make sure there’s a good train running before you click to use your buffs if you go this route.

AFKers The Plague

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DragonflyDusk.6582

DragonflyDusk.6582

Going AFK is rewarding.. right.. in a game that rewards participation.. how does that work?

going AFK does not reward you.. at all
if you are not participating in an event or a kill then you will not be rewarded for it
and you certainly wont be getting loot since you are AFK and unable to pick it up

there is no reward for going AFK at any time..
frankly people who come into a map and go AFK are just wasting other peoples time and taking up map space..

in SW this is a minor problem.. but in boss events.. this is a pain
why even bother coming to Teq to just go AFK for the whole battle..
these people are just wasting map slots and peoples time.. upscaling events for the lols..
it’s pathetic that people have absolutely nothing better to do with their time than this

I could be misunderstanding, but I think the problem is that people tag so they get credit, then park it for awhile. They become inactive, but they pop in every so often just so they get rewards, hence the label “leeching”. They aren’t helping at all, but they don’t stay inactive long enough to actually get kicked for being AFK. At least that is what I see happening at the Amber Fort a lot and the Vinewratih event. I get real life happens, but it seems awfully convenient that real life doesn’t keep many of these people from getting to the chest at the end before it despawns.

The other problem is it’s difficult to prevent people from behaving like this without punishing many innocent players in the same sweep.

I agree with everything you said except WvW and PvE should be required for legends..

if anything I think it would be better if you could get legends by exclusively playing one or the other game modes
WvW exclusive players being able to make legends without needing to play PvE and vice versa..
that would be far better imo and could probably be easily doable just by making a few substitute items for legendary recipies

an example of this would be say instead of making gifts that require dungeon tokens in PvE you would need Keep tokens in WvW which you can only obtain by capturing the keep in Eternal Battlegrounds

if they did something like this then WvW players need never play PvE if they don’t want to and PvE players would never need play WvW to obtain legendary weapons

I think that’s an interesting solution. It would be nice if it can work

Just because people whine wvw is difficult to complete they remove it, this is a stupid decision.

So because people “whine” that it should stay, it should stay? I would rather have people playing WvW because they WANT to rather than feeling like they have to any day.

Well that is your opinion, mine is that they cheated every other player that has completed wvw and made it easier just because off some crybabies, a lot off people cry and anet removes wvw how pathetic.

The irony of this is very strong. My point with the first part was your attitude is no better than what you are attacking. Your attitude also does far more to hurt the health of WvW than removing map completion as a Legendary requirement. Some people may slog through it for the Legendary, but if what they encounter is a lot of this attitude, they certainly won’t be coming back for more.

If you read my other post you’d know I have no problem with the people who have and will complete WvW maps getting a different reward tailored to WvW. And “Misery loves company” isn’t a healthy mindset. I love WvW. People having to or not having to do map completion in WvW isn’t going to change what I enjoy about it. And again, I want people to have FUN in WvW with me, not “slogging” through.

Though how combative this is getting leads me to believe this thread won’t last the night.

Some PVE crybabies got what they wanted. WvW players get nada.

With that logic, if WvW players get something are they considered crybabies too?

Funny thing is, the only ones actually crying like babies right now are the WvW’ers.

I noticed this. There’s a little line about a pot and a kettle…

Removal Of WvW Map Completion In Patch

Once again, PVE whiners win and WvW gets nothing.

Everyone once in awhile I get the feeling that Anet cares, at least a little bit, about WvW and then they do this….. kitten

“PVE Whiners”. Because whining never happens in WvW. I can’t say the “people should suffer because I suffer” argument is appealing.

I think this ultimately was a good call on ANet’s part (and 90% of my time in this game is spent in WvW). For every person on the fence about WvW that this originally encouraged to try it, it probably aggravated 10 more who ultimately had no interest in it.

There are way more sustainable and fun ways (see the sPvP reward system) to encourage primarily PvE players to play WvW. I hope ANet is working on those.

Pretty much this. Map completion never made me want to try it, and after how rude and belittling people were the first time I went in to WvW I never set foot in it again for almost a year. It took a good guild to get me to try it again, and now I love it. Other players have a lot more of an impact on who stays and who goes than people seem to admit or realize.

I have no objections at all to this changing, but I never went in to WvW for map completion, I went there to check it out. As someone who really doesn’t care about finishing map completion or getting a Legendary, I can say what kept me out of WvW for a long time was how hostile people were when I first entered it. The amount of flaming and arguing is a big reason that people hesitate to go in to anything competitive, and it feels like this gets glossed over a lot. I’ve since had much better experiences and love it as a whole, but there are still nights when I feel like anyone coming in to check it out for the first time will likely never come back.

Given the amount of work that goes in to mapping it though, I think it’s fair to give people that have mapped/map in the future in WvW a different reward designed for it.

Now it’s about time ANet adds the PvP reward tracks to WvW as well (can be Wxp-bound), so WvW players can get their dungeon tokens also without leaving their preferred game mode.

Can I be weird and say this might get me into WvW? Cap a tower, gain dungeon tokens? Yes please?

It would be an interesting development.
Though only for WvWvW sans EOTM, that way the champ train won’t benefit from their Whooo Whooo chugga chugga.

I could totally get behind this. Not gonna lie, I love me some Karma train from time to time, but I don’t feel like I should be getting dungeon tokens from it.

You mean like a greatsword that shoots laser beams and summons phantasms in one character’s hands but is a heavy hitting melee attack in another’s ?

But you know that a Greatsword in the hands of a Mesmer would do that, while a Greatsword in the hands of a warrior would not.

With the OPs suggestion however you would have no idea if the weapon he/she/it held would shoot “laser” beams and summon phantasms or if it would create a chaos field.

If they are standing upright, you know it’s a staff. If they are hunched over, then it’s a greatsword. Also, if the actual skin isn’t repeated between both, it still shouldn’t matter that much. Make the “greatsword” version have a bigger blade or something.

You can obtain EVERY single item via gold.

Now we know the real reason Tequatl’s Hoard is so rare: people are buying it from him!

And I can’t say I really care if someone wants to spend their real life money on legendaries. The only advantage I feel they have over me and ascended weapons is storage space, but I like having different weapon skins so I’m not worried about a single stat-swapping weapon. But this isn’t P2W anwyays.

  • I love writing poetry, and sketch in my free time.
  • I love reading!
  • I have a collection of Magic the Gathering cards back from when I sort-kinda-played with my brothers, but mostly just wanted the pretty art. I am fond of my Catacomb Dragon and Crash of Rhinos, though
  • I have a little Nymphicus hollandicus (the US name for it gets half-censored), that rides around on my shoulder at home. And tries to help me play Guild Wars sometimes.
  • My favorite colors are black and white together.
  • My favorite artist is Edgar Degas, particularly for his ballet works.
  • I’ve always been a bit of a console gamer, and I especially love horror games.
  • I’ve played Silent Hill 1 & 2 a stupid amount of times.
  • I love cooking, especially homemade lasagna.
  • I like ALL Silent Hill games! :O
  • I’m addicted to American McGee’s Alice/Alice Madness Returns. And Alice in Wonderland in general.
  • The only multiplayer pc games I have really played besides GW2 are the original Guild Wars, Diablo, and Diablo 2. My adventures in Starcraft were so bad I pretend they never happened (I’m terrible at it).
  • I have never had a drink of alcohol in my life.
  • Once a year, my siblings and cousins have a Diablo 2 weekend and we run through it for giggles.

Outfit? Way to ruin it, Anet.

My thoughts exactly when Shaman posted that it was an outfit. It just couldn’t be made into a separate armor…

My human female engie is happy at the thought she can wear this outfit.

I’m actually completely okay with this one being an outfit. The two characters I want to wear it are medium and heavy armor, so this works for me personally. I get that isn’t the case for everyone, though.

Good this nonsense about staff is over.

Now that this “nonsense is over”, you should have time to reflect on how sad it is that this meant so much to you.

Except that it’s not over, having a hammer =/= no staff. Or else someone should tell the Guardians they missed the memo. Guardians… why you gotta be like that?

I like the way the hammer sounds, and I’m really hoping at least one skill lets me lob Entropy at some Risen. I would really like a melee staff though, so I can go around clubbing even more Risen with The Crossing.

Tequatl the Sunless is too easy again

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DragonflyDusk.6582

DragonflyDusk.6582

Start showing up 5 minutes before he lands or later. That’s where all of the fun happens.

I actually joined a Tequatl map last night 3 minutes in to the fight. We didn’t hit the first battery phase until we only had just shy of 5 minutes left, but managed to squeak in a win. Also almost lost all of the batteries + Megalaser during the second battery phase.

The funny thing is I have actually seen Tequatl runs almost go down in flames even on early set-up maps, largely because people start to think that it’s so easy that all they need to do is press [ 1 ]. That works for a few people, but when the whole zerg stops actually thinking… well, then they start blaming the turrets as usual.

I personally like Tequatl where he is in difficulty. Failure is still entirely possible, but with the right group of people you can do self-restrictive runs to add a little spice to the encounter

Sorry if someone has mentioned this before but I sincerely hope they don’t turn staves into melee weapons. 90% of the staves in the game would not lend themselves well to physical combat… a character would look ridiculous trying to use “The Crossing” to whack someone over the head. Maybe that isn’t a staff ryloc is using in the hype video maybe it’s a conjured weapon of sorts. I would say spear but gw2 has already shot down the on land water weapon idea (A shame really).

Funny you should mention that, as this is precisely what I plan to do with my Revenant.

So when Rytlock meets Logan again

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: DragonflyDusk.6582

DragonflyDusk.6582

The whole point of Logan’s conflict is that he was in an impossible conflict. If Jennah could have handled it she could have handled it, but she put him in with the Telepethy/mesmer crap, and left him with no choice, what with the binding oath and all.

The fact that he made the wrong choice in hindsight makes it even more tragic, but that’s the whole point.

Logan made a hard choice, and manned up to it. It’s not like he’s Caithe

What do you mean by Caithe? You mean being forced into killing your sister to protect a secret that would destroy your entire culture and then not being able to talk to anyone about it other than a overbearing mother figure who did nothing to help you through but instead made you feel guilty and torn between your shunned lover (ok that’s creepy with the incest and all that…) and your family.

Sure… she’s such a pansy…

I believe she’s fought 2 dragons, Logan so far? 0?

Caithe didn’t have to kill Wynne. Caithe could have killed Faolain, who openly admitted she was about to torture Wynne for info she wanted purely because she didn’t have it. Also, Caithe ran off with an egg that she could have easily explained to us what she was going to do with it, but instead decided to go with “No time to explain!” Really Caithe?

And “overbearing mother” seems like another personal bias issue, especially when we haven’t seen exactly how the tree treated Caithe during that time period. And given Caithe’s standing history of bad choices I’m not inclined to believe the Pale Tree treated her badly. Just because you love someone doesn’t mean you will never have conflict with them, and just because you have conflict doesn’t mean that you can’t love them.

Life is filled with choices, and we don’t always make good ones. As long as we learn from them. That’s true of everyone in Destiny’s Edge, and they all have areas they need to improve in.

Glad someone else noticed this. Having mained a Sylvari, I’ve also found her attitude towards the PC is often cold when their choices don’t line up with her preferences.

How did charr cause the genocide exactly? They were fighting for their homeland in a brutal but direct fashion, and the humans took the dirty way out, resulting in wiping out their own kingdom.

King Adelbern was one man, not the entire human race.

But getting back to the issue of Logan hate, he is stuck in a position where either course of action would have left him easily branded as a terrible guy based on anyone’s personal bias.

Option A: Leave your guild at the last moment to save your Queen/True Love, knowing they could fail without you. Or with you.

Option B: Leave your Queen/True Love to her fate- knowing SHE could die, and that your guildmates are working for the greater good. Also, their plan could still fail.

So either way he’s open for deeming a liar and traitor. I find I actually like him the most out of Destiny’s Edge (along with Eir), because he admits it was a difficult choice rather than making excuses, unlike certain other members of the group.

Also, am I the only one thinking a plan that hinges so badly on one person being there is probably not a good plan?

Sylvari seems like a good choice, especially considering Rytlock’s opinion of them. Otherwise, I’d probably go with human (either) or norn (female). If it’s anything at all like a ritualist, I’d go with human female, and have her be a descendant of my Canthan rit from way back when.

If the Revenant had been a light armor class I would have absolutely gone Sylvari, but since it’s heavy, I’m leaning human (as if I need anymore).

I’m thinking along the same vein as you, with having a Revenant that serves as a descendant to my GW1 Ritualist. My Guardian already carries part of my Monk’s name. Time to give my second favorite class from the original some love this time around.

Granted, I have yet to make a charr, so maybe I should do that. I’m the weird sort of person that designs charr all the time in character creation, yet I haven’t fallen inlove with any particular class for them so far.

Given the history of GW1—I created a black human female named Kormir (and will dress her appropriately)—and play/act as best I can to this video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxmkAoLC6_4

Hahaha, I remember that video! ……… I really didn’t like Kormir. I dont even like unlocking “Prayer to Kormir” because I can’t bring myself to use it on principle. I would have rather ANY of my other heroes have taken Abaddon’s place than her.

Kormir: “Give me your prayers that I might bless thee!”
My Monk: “Are you serious this time? Because when you were human you had this habit of standing in ridiculous places so that you would die faster than Talhkora and Dunkoro could possibly heal you.”
Kormir: “PRAY TO ME.”
My Monk: “… You know, I’ll just take my chances. If I die, I’ll go play Telestrations with the Lich.”

My apologies, back on topic.

That may be but I am a guild leader and most ppl DO NOT KNOW what to do as new players, it has nothing to do with hand holding it has to do with experience this game has ALOT to learn if you want to play properly and MOST of the mechanics are not know by new player so they DO NOT KNOW WHAT to look for!

I am happy for you being able to complete it but that will not be the case for the MAJORITY of players as most will need to look up a Guide long term and short term players alike XD

And there are plenty of people who will still have issues even if you walk them through it like a storybook. An unfortunate line has to be drawn somewhere, and if you take the time to look around and read the top corner it is clear what you should be doing in this instance. Patience may be required. Also, a bit of reading comprehension. And general ability to observe your surroundings.

LOL now you are Expecting every new player to learn LIKE YOU DID not every 1 does alot of ppl PLAY alone till they hit 80 and HAVE NO CLUE as to what is in this game XD

All I want is for them to account for thier NEW PLAYER base and add some EXPLENATION and to assume that they SHOULD KNOW is just moronic

And the unpleasant reality is people have to actively learn for themselves at some point. If they ever want to get better, the training wheels must come off.

Also, between your random caps and need to call people moronic, you really are not helping your case. Can we at least try to keep our disagreements civil? The moment we all go down that rabbit hole we lose valuable opportunities for discussion.

Keywords were ‘I was under the impression’, never stating that this was a fact. Plus there is only one way to go, so if you can neither figure out a direction in a corridor, nor read what is written in green on the top right corner of your screen, this might not be the game for you

From this point on I’m not going to reply seeing as you are just trolling based on the way you write and the nonsensical points you make.

I suppose I should follow this route, but I’m hopeful. One day these forums will break me of that.

How to complete the Asura meeting success ?

in Living World

No the horror is ANET’s complete lack of direction for these event’s, yes long term players can figure it out but there should be some explanation on the part of ANET as WHAT you do. It has always been a problem of theirs and needs to be fixed. That is another reason they have a hard time keeping people playing!

I am a long term player and I think that it is just not nice at all for new players, People should not have to wait for someone to put out a guide so they know what to do but Most People HAVE TO! mainly because of the LACK of DIRECTIONS!

I really don’ think this is a “long-term”/veteran player thing, so much as take a moment and observe what’s going on around the area. I found the execution to be a bit tricky, but I had no problems figuring out what it was Anet intended for me to do during this Living Story. There is a fine line sometimes between “clear directions” and “hand-holding”, and I don’t envy the devs that have to make that call.

No add. glove chest when playing with an alt?

in Living World

no way it’s a bug. and it doesn’t really bother me.

they “threw us a bone” by letting alts get the skins in ep1 (a nice way to get the your collection going)…..but if this practice continued all the way through, the zone would be pretty dead as soon as the last installment ended. these episodes take so little time to complete.

you get one full set by playing the LS (a few hours of gameplay)….you get the rest by playing the map (it’s only a grind if you make it one and “need” to have all skins quickly). you can argue the cost in crests is too high (i’d agree and probably halve the total)…but the fact that it isn’t available only through rng is more important to me.

The other simple solution to keep the area active would have been to make the Pact Fleet weapons available through Silverwastes.

Why change how you get Carapace Armor Pieces!

in Living World

Tbh, the carapace shoulders should be changed aswell, replaying the LS is more of a grind than actually playing silverwastes and having fun.

agree…..playing the zone is much better than most of the instances.

And some of us disagree with that sentiment. Before we each had a choice to get the shoulders in the method that we preferred, but because you didn’t like the opposing method it should be eliminated? I personally am already tired of Silverwastes circular slugfest, so only one class is going to be lucky enough to get those gloves.

to preserve the life/activity level of the new map. Dry Top has Mawdrey/ambrite skins….Silverwastes has the armor skins.

if they didn’t change it, everyone would have all armor pieces in a matter of hours. their mistake was allowing alts to get multiple pieces in the first place.

OR…. they could have added the Pact Fleet weapons as incentive to play that map, rather than locking them behind Black Lion Claim Tickets. I would have ground that map in to dust for some of those weapon skins, but instead I’ll be finding one I enjoy more to farm in order to buy them off of the trading post.

We all have differing opinions, and I can respect that, but changing the armor skin acquisition style to benefit one side entirely and screwing over the other in the process really doesn’t seem like the right way to handle the situation.

Teragriff Boss and Thresher Unfair to Melee

in Living World

I think people don’t play eles and don’t even realize that you can’t change weapons as an ele. Only way to switch to a ranged weapon is to redo the instance.

Or don’t engage with the wrong weapon equipped..

Because everyone knows the correct weapon to have equipped before engaging. /facepalm

Seriously though, that answer is either ignoring or completing missing the point. We shouldn’t have to look up on the forums what weapon we need to use before going in to a fight like this. With my weapon swapping classes I always carry a melee and long-range weapon “just in case”, but that does nothing to help out elementalists.

Necro GS

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I am absolutely down with the idea of a Necromancer with a greatsword. People already posted in the forums agonizing over how cool Chiroptophobia would be with Necros. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chiroptophobia_Greatsword_Skin

And while we are at it, give my Engineer a hammer. Seriously, let me have a melee weapon (and no, I don’t count the wrench tool kit).

This is all preparations for extending the weapon sets for all professions. Necromancers get greatswords. Engineers get mace and torch. Ranger gets hammer. Mesmer gets main pistol and horn (with flute like skills). Warrior gets dual daggers. Elementalist gets hammer. Thief gets main sword and off-hand axe. And Guardians gets longbows.

Actually, I would like to see:

Necromancer: Greatsword
Engineer: Hammer
Ranger: Mace
Thief: Rifle
Elementalist: Shortbow
Mesmer: Ax (MesmersWithAxes!)
Guardian: Longbow (yeah, same here)
Warrior: Torch… Main-hand!

That is my opinion at least.

I’d take Rifle for Thieves as a 1200 range weapon with possibly a trait to increase range. Trait name would be ‘Sniper’.

I second this.

I’m having the exact same issues on Ferguson’s Crossing/NA.

The last time I was able to log in and play normally was last Friday morning. Since then, I experience lag spikes until it drops me. This occurs after 2-5 minutes. I have tried the numerous fixes around the forum and nothing works.

BLC Weapon Skins

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: DragonflyDusk.6582

DragonflyDusk.6582

The fact they didn’t come back is filled with so much WIN I am almost moved to tears of joy… I’d say I told you so but I am guessing that would sting a bit…

If you really feel that strongly over a video game, it is essential that you seek counseling and get that condition treated, or at the very least go outside and get some sunlight. And people wonder why gamers have such a bad image with the rest of society.

I am perfectly okay with temporary items, but this has devolved in to “MY Barbie deserves to look better than YOUR Barbie.” Though the former Barbie is either a lucky dog, or has a serious gambling problem.

Selfish entitled players want everything and don’t think it’s fair that prestige items exist that they can’t get. Except they can: the skins are still availble on the TP.

Oh the cost is too high? So it’s greedy selfish entitled players who are also misers. Nice.

I have to say, it’s funny that both sides are using the same argument.

If you want your luck based reward to have more meaning than just, “it’s a skin I like to use,” or to force people to have to pay you for it because you happened to be lucky enough to get it you’re a greedy selfish entitled player. See how that falls into place. Greedy because you’re forcing people who either weren’t luck or never had the opportunity to pay exorbitant amounts for something that cost you nothing to acquire. Selfish because you don’t want them to have any other way to get it. Entitled because you happened to get it and still don’t want them to have the same options.

If you want another chance to get a skin other than having to go to great effort to pay for something that took no effort to acquire in the first place because you legitimately want to use it for its appearance and not at a pay day you’re a greedy selfish entitled player. No, that one doesn’t fit nearly so well. You’re not greedy for not wanting to pay hyper inflated prices one something, you’re frugal. You’re not selfish for wanting them to be available, that’s altruistic. You’re not entitled for want the option simply because it’s not a demand.

I do want it to be the case, I’ve always felt prestige items should be based on effort, not happenstance. Titles and achievements can be based on happenstance but actual items shouldn’t be. But I’m not insisting that’s the way it has to be because it’s not my game and ANet can do whatever they kitten well please with it. When someone insists that that is the only way it can be done and claims they will fly off the handle if it’s not done that way because they say so, that is entitled.

Kal Spiro… Just keep being awesome. And sensible. God knows we need more sensible people around here.
