As awesome as that would be, I don’t foresee it ever happening because then they would have to deal with the off-hand staff having 2 sigils. Maybe an off-hand scepter, and Emberglow is already practically a staff in size.
A sword in one hand, and The Crossing in the other… I shall dream.
This is a silly conversation. The Norn are a fantasy race inspired by Nordic culture. Their naming conventions don’t have to match the real world any more than Arenanet wants them to.
I’m more bothered by the persistent mispronunciation of the word “golem”. It’s supposed to be “goh-lem”, not “Gollum” like the LotR character.
The OP kind of just sounds like a whiny chauvinist.
Isn’t this rather silly though?
You claim that ArenaNet can do whatever they want with the lore, and yet you are bothered by them having a specific pronunciation of a certain word?
Really? Do you honestly not see a difference between making up an in-game culture and bad grammar/pronunciation? We have to have some basis of real-life language here, or else the game would become a mess of gibberish and a puzzle just to figure out what’s going on.
Let’s have everyone in cutscenes say “teh” when they are using the word “the” and see how long before we have a meltdown in the forums.
Its not elitisism, its a valid option if you are too lazy to make a group.
They are already soloable, just takes some effort instead of steamrolling.
They are not soloable to the vast majority of players. Take your elitism somewhere else.
how is anything what malediktus said elitist?
how is “story mode dungeons are soloable, there’s just some effort involved” elitist in any way?
or are you just throwing the “e” word at any post you dislike?
Let’s all just all just through sweeping generalizations out there at each other.
Also, Kal Spiro has contested a few posts already, but because he used “elitist” once, apparently he’s out to get everyone that disagrees with him? Let’s not go down this road, it leads to nowhere.
Anyways, I would like to be able to actually see my character in story dungeon cutscenes, but unless I enter the dungeon first I can’t. And if more than one person in the group is in this situation some one is getting the short end of the stick. I personally like playing in groups, but some adjustment to this would be nice, like rotating who’s talking in each speaking part or something.
Do you have a source to backup these claims? Or are you just inventing this as you go?
You mean like your definition of what constitutes “normal, everyday” magic?
Tequatl is not normal everyday magic.
I thought “normal, everyday magic” was with playing cards and pulling quarters out of ears.
No I meant floating rocks are normal everyday magic.
Tequatl is not normal everyday magic.
I’ve always hated normal, everyday magic. Kinda takes the wonder out if it.
I thought “normal, everyday magic” was with playing cards and pulling quarters out of ears.
Why is my ranger shooting arrows with out ever reloading?
Where exactly are all the barrage arrows coming from?
How is my mesmer able to clone herself?
Why is it that Warriors can drop banners and make us stronger? Or revive us?
Why can I rub people’s toes to bring them back to life?
Why don’t the people of Nebo Terrace just move?
Why do the same bosses show up every day at the same time to fight us?
And more importantly, why are we all not dead from shooting/stabbing each other all the time at large boss encounters?

Wait, so did I really just read some flipping out over the word “Avenger” being a terrible choice because it will inevitably make someone think of Marvel? I’m pretty sure we have a legendary weapon sharing the same name as a series of sparkly vampires, or is that just getting glossed over because “reasons.”
To toot my own horn a bit, Seeker gives a rough idea of the indented concept.
A Seeker can be a hunter, who seeks their prey. particularly a ranged hunter, that prepares beforehand, instead of a slayer who would face a monster directly.
A Seeker can also be an explorer in the new Maguuma wilderness. The name also carries a more spiritual flavour, befitting the profession.
I like that, personally.

Their most symbolic weapon was the shield,
AND their industrial strength bras!
Seriously, this is pretty much the silliest thread on this whole naming affair but it has a certain charm.
It does. I can’t seem to stop checking on it. XD
Also, for those wondering how to say “Einherjar”:

And for giggles, the Lenneth variety:

What profession in GW2 ISN’T a dragon hunter?
What profession in GW2 isn’t a warrior?
And as have already been pointed out: Valkyrie’s are all female.
Warrior isn’t as loaded of a term as Dragonhunter. I’m not saying I would have ever picked “Warrior” for a class name myself, but the latter has a heftier weight to it, which I think is what is bugging most of us. Calling one class a dragonhunter over everyone else just makes us look like we’re playing second fiddle.

Yeah, but aren’t Valkryies all female?
That would be awesome for my female guardian, whom I’ve already dressed up like Lenneth, but not really sure for all the manly men out there.

3. Its copying ESO and Final Fantasy to the Cheesiest degree
I’m pretty sure hunting dragons wasn’t invented by those titles.
One game had the Dragonborn, the other Befriended a dragon from birth. yet still fight dragons. So fine, even if we don’t Need the close association with dragons to have Dragon in the class spec, Why are guardians any better at hunting Dragons than every other class. its just too broad a term for a name to give to a Specialty.
How in the world did you get any of that out of my statement? You said the name was cheesy and accused it of ripping off of other games, I said dragons are not limited to Final Fantasy and ESO. That argument was off, which is why I pointed it out. I didn’t say you were wrong for not liking the spec name or that the spec name even made sense.
Its more about timing, than ripping someone off, its too common now to use the idea of dragonhunting and far too broad for a class Spec. I’m glad you see it doesn’t make sense as well.
Ok, I get that more.

Anet’s plan to turn us all in to rangers: CONFIRMED! :O
A Ranger by any other name would smell as Ranger.

Maybe I just feel like my Sylvari Engineer keeps getting a bad rap with her life choices in the story, but it just strikes me as odd that Guardians are singled out as Dragonhunters when we all are hunting… dragons. Way to steal the spotlight, Guardians.
I guess I’m in the middle here. I don’t hate it, but I don’t really like it, either.

I’m a Dragon Hunter, too! NOTICE ME. (/ ºuº)/ ‡ #Engi4life
This is all just opinion. Just because you don’t like the name of something doenst make it bad. I like the name Dragonhunter. Do I have the same right to want them to keep it?
Yes, you do. And thank you for not being abusive in your opposing opinion. I have to admit, I’m enjoying some of the offered names more, but that’s my personal opinion there.
I would like offer to something a little less rant-ish to the table on the side of people opposing the name. I don’t hate it by any means, and I wouldn’t say that it doesn’t fit. The problem I have is that it fits all of us. We’re all killing dragons here. It just seems odd to me to single out Guardians in that respect. It’s not horrible or game breaking…. it’s just weird to me.
edit: changed something to lowercase so people don’t read it as yelling. No angry voices here.
(edited by DragonflyDusk.6582)
Why would a Guardian be a hunter? They would make poor hunters wearing all that heavy armor, and not having any sort of skills resembling tracking. They go from frontline defenders of their weaker counterparts, to ranged trappers? Really?
That’s like going from a Defensive Guard in American Football, to a Defensive Linebacker. lol.
Well, it doesn’t really make sense to go running through the woods in a trench coat, or a long skirt/bikini top combo. Most of us aren’t really dressed realistically for hunting dragons. But man, are we stylish.
lol @ “Dragonhunter”, very creative … so everyone else fighting the Claw of Jormag are chopped liver.
I know, right? My engineer worked hard during Tequatl Rising, and still shows up every day to beat him back in to the sea. But let’s just give guardians all the credit. Why you gotta be glory hogs, Guards? (/ ºuº)/ ‡
The name is completely irrelevant. Man you people complain about the dumbest things.
Then let’s just call them Armored Pew or Brave Little Toasters since names obviously don’t matter here. Names are not completely irrelevant, they are part of the system of identity. Do I think people make a bigger deal out of it than necessary? Sure, but that does not automatically mean the name simply doesn’t matter.
I don’t hate the name, and part of me does think it’s kind of cool. But then there is another part of me that can’t get past the fact that every person playing this game is a “Dragon Hunter.” Unless I guess you do nothing but WvW and PvP. Thank you, by the way, non PvE-ers for keeping us safe from our non-scaley enemies.
TL;DR:
Names matter, but should not be the end of the world. Also, longbows! (>^-^)>}
I didn’t get in to the first beta. I didn’t get a chest. People got things I did not. Life is hard.
If you live your life expecting to get all of the nice things that other people get- regardless of whether or not others deserve them or earned them- you are doomed to a miserable life of disappointment. And who is to say you won’t get something nice in the future that a bunch of other people do not?
TL;DR:
I currently have 2 mesmers: an adorable Asuran, and later a pretty pretty human.
I just like designing characters, really.
I’d like to add my support for this.
I don’t like having to waste space on the toys that came with some of my outfits, and I’d be more inclined to buy new ones if I had something akin to the Mini section of the wardrobe to draw them out of. Also, having a place to use my tonics from across my account would be very nice.
I would love long(ish) hair that actually has bangs in the front. The new pigtails were nice in that regard, but have very little substance in the back. However, too many of the long ones just make me feel like my sylvari is balding up front.
I would actually love a second version of the new thorn hairstyle with longer hair in the back, maybe curling around a bit.
And I know this isn’t a sylvari request, but I’d love a ringlet-up-do for humans, like the Mesmer one from Factions. Pretty please, with a cherry on top, Arenanet?
The same thing happened to me, and I felt horrible because I actually laughed.
Even though mine was fairly inoculous. It was just like ‘shocking revelation, horrible tragedy, llama!’
HAHAHA.
Well, I kind of think the llama seems to be acting as a lookout. Good job, llama.
I know this “breaks immersion” for some of people, but this just feels right at home for me with the world of Tyria. It has the quality of certain answers you could give in the original Guild Wars for accepting quests, and I love these random moments.

Meanwhile, engineer fashion is hindered by the back-burdening hobosacks. Outfit or Armor skin, it makes no difference.
JediYoda.1275, WereDragon.6083 my logic? btw i am german so yeah the whole ww2 games thing, i really do rather detest them. but be that as it may, i think you guys might just try to think for your self. think quite hard. so i have to compare dead people to others, just to say: welll too bad but so is life, and now i wil make fun of those who are actually taken aback by those comments.
i wonder what you guys would say if you were involved in this event
I mentioned last night that someone I knew was recently shot and killed. I have to deal with that, and I get to see guns in this game every day as long as it is running/I choose to play because they are built in to the system. This is a prank based on an old bug that will last a day. Bad things happen, and we DO have to deal with it. There are plenty of horrible things that happen without us needing to look for reasons to be upset.
The problem I have with what has been going on is that people forcing this comparison of a toddler imitating an airplane with a genuine crash are actually trivializing it themselves. Are we going to start fussing over TV adds for travel that show airplanes? Surely the person running the adds should have known better… That logic is less of a slippery slope and more of a complete drop-off.
When speaking about tragedies people shouldn’t make fun of them. Likewise, people should not be fabricating “wrongs” to lash out against.
Special?
The snowflakes are falling.
It’s turning in to a blizzard.
Stop living in the future!
Better than living in the past!
I wonder if Anet should add an explanation of “April Fool’s Day” to the NPE.
I bet it would still fly right over some people’s heads – Nyeeeeeerooooom!
… I see what you did there.
ITA, OP.
It should be optional, simple as that.
Then everyone is happy.
That bolded part never really seems to work out as well as you would think.
I found it funny for the first 10 minutes… but i agree about the plane crash, Oh and the crucifixions. Those too. Have you people never seen KIDS play pretend to be an airplane, they do the exact same thing, does it offend you then?
The difference here is that a company did this knowingly. They have the resources to research what is going on in the world. Regardless of if people found it offensive they should have realized it might cause an issue. It just makes them look kind of silly.
I’m just going to just leave this here. Goodnight forums. May whatever was in the air tonight thin out and we all regain our senses. Though I would like to keep my toddler airplane. I’ve wanted this sort of thing as an emote since the game launched.
take a break from the forums for a day.
I probably will because the forums have been trashed. It’s too bad because I usually like it around here.
Its getting more and more depressing
Hopefully we can all take a step back and cool off at least.
WvW was priceless tonight, I’ll say that much. I personally loved the music that plays when you crash, though I think we may have let ourselves die more than usual at Tequatl just to hear it.
I know you keep posting that, but I can’t help but follow the link and laugh everytime.
Though they DID think of the children, right? We all look like toddler airplanes, cooey noises and all.
Game designer. And i am the prince of Wakanda.
YOUR MAJESTY.
But all that aside, I really don’t mind if Anet designs an opt out function for the people who don’t like it. That’s fine with me, even though I enjoy the toddler airplane. But it’s only a 24 hour thing, so that seems like it would happen next year, if anything.
Insensitive? Really? The world today is ridiculous. Every time I turn around something is either racist or insensitive or rude or hurtful. People that want to stop racist, sexist and insensitive things need to stop pointing out every kitten thing that isn’t this. You are leading people to believe things that are harmless are really racist/sexist/insensitive when they are truly not. At all. Get over it. (FFS).
While there is the likelihood that someone may find this offensive, the majority of those posting on here are just playing that card in an attempt to get rid of it. I’ve seen many of them first complain about how annoying the sounds, graphics, etc are without once making a comment about how offensive it is. You’d think that would be the first thing that they would complain about.
Several of them have also never posted before so it makes you wonder if any could be dummy accounts.
Yeah, I saw several of these posters first make posts about how annoying it was, then a couple of hours later to now play the “its offensive card”. You are right, these people are just doing it to get rid of the annoyance, and are in fact are the ones that should be ashamed of themselves for using something so tragic for their own purposes.
Pretty much this.
But Seriously——
I find it annoying that people on this thread are pretending not to know the difference between being unwilling to pull core game mechanics (like rifles and pistols) that are an everyday component of the game and having the decency to cancel or alter a special event (that calls attention to itself precisely because it isn’t necessary or core to the game play) when a real life tragedy so closely resembling the joke is playing itself out in the media as we speak. If you don’t understand the distinction now, hopefully you will when you GROW UP.
Tragedy happens everyday, and part of being a grown-up is learning to cope with it. This past week I lost someone I have known for a long time because they were shot. Not by accident, in cold blood, by someone else they knew. You have a lot of nerve telling others to grow up when you are shouting at others to adhere to your personal sensitivities.
And I’m pretty sure toddler plane arms are nowhere near closely related to an actual plane crash. That is far more insulting to suggest.
I find it despicable that people are attempting to justify their annoyance at being unable to revert the plane arms by using real life tragedy. Shame on you all. Seriously.
This. A million times over. This.
Wait, did someone seriously equate this gag to the crucifixion or whatever the religious people believe in?
This thread is comedy gold.
As someone who is religious I’m far more annoyed that people are trying to force that comparison. Every year there are people who have a meltdown over a one-day silly prank, but this year the nay-sayers are really taking it too far. If they hate it, fine. But they are trying to demonize Arenanet by forcing connections like mashing puzzle pieces together just because they find the prank annoying.
I genuinely would like to know though. Why is the airplane thing insensitive while the shooting isn’t? We’re even killing other players in certain game modes on top of that.
Because some players are acting like children. They need to grow up. There are plenty of real things to get upset about. This is certainly not one of them.
I agree. I’d just like to hear them actually explain it, but I’m pretty it will continue to be dodged or hand-waved with a nonsensical explanation.
I genuinely would like to know though. Why is the airplane thing insensitive while the shooting isn’t? We’re even killing other players in certain game modes on top of that.
People are murdered every day and we run around in this game shooting, stabbing and bludgeoning. And yet the toddler airplanes are insensitive? What?
The first thing I thought when this hit was my laptop was dying because of the color change. Then I thought I was a scarecrow. Then I realized my Sylvari Engineer was an airplane and and that her dreams of becoming a machine had been realized.
While I’ve never even held 500g at one time, I can feel for the guild raffles that will suffer from this.
Guys. It’s 500 gold a week. It’s not going to cramp anyone’s style of wealth distribution.
Kitten, it’s more gold each week than I’ve ever seen.
Good thing you won’t be affected. There is no problem here guys. This guy won’t be affected. Lets all go home and stop caring about it. We should have checked with TooBz before we got upset about this stuff to begin with,
From your statement I guess as long as no patch negatively affects you it is a good patch. No regard for the people it does affect though right?
Dinks, I’m pretty sure you just gave the exact OPPOSITE opinion in the Vulgar Language and Belligerence thread.
The second one is the all too common ’that’s so ghey’ remark. I swear, if I had a dollar for every time I heard this… I would be able to afford a precursor within less than half a year. I mean, it’s like saying ’that’s so heterosexual’ – what has someone’s sexual orientation have to do with something someone is referring to as stupid/bad/wrong/whatever?
I feel like that 90% of the time I see/hear people using the “F” word. You might as well replace it with something like “aardvark.”
My mind basically plays this over and over again: “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
^^ 2012 video, but still funny.
The airplane bug.

Why oh why is this not an emote? Anet, make it so!
I’ve had so many hilarious glitches happen, but these are the two I found captured on camera.
I present Drowning On Land, and Forgal the Fabulous. Just look at him rocking out with that fake mic. Let him dream, guys, let him dream.
Fire Elemental Bridge of Death.
“GET OFF THE BRIDGE!”
The original Fire Elemental was the most horrifying encounter I ever had in a video game. The night it glitched and wouldn’t die was the stuff of nightmares.
I remember when I stacked magic find on my armor.
I remember when Tequatl was soloable.
I remember when people believed Tequatl was impossible.
I remember when we thought Precursors were insanely expensive at 20g… Not entirely certain, but they might have even been cheaper than that.
I remember when we had massive, exciting, open world events. Scarlet attacks, Marionette, Tower of Nightmares… even helping the refugees was a neat thing. I wish they hadn’t gotten rid of all of those things with the shift to the story journal. I wish there could be some sort of balance between them. I LOVE my “Avenger of the Dispossessed” title.
I agree. I like being able to replay the story instances with other characters at my leisure…. but I do so miss the massive world battles.
I remember my server banding together the first night of the Scarlet Invasions.
I remember the single night of victory my server had against the Marionette, and how it would have never happened for us had they not extended its availability.
