Your build doesn’t match your gear. You are running Zerker gear which means you want to do damage but your traits are mediocre damage and support. Let someone else stack might. Even with the runes our might duration sucks for group use especially if you aren’t using a staff.

I’d go to a real Greatsword DPS build if you want to keep that zerker gear. But you complained about durability. Zerker gear is only as durable as your own dodge skills. Cleric gear is where durability lives you wil of course do less direct damage.

Last night in WvW I held a camp in a small group against a 40-50 person zerg. I was never downed and I was continuously looting bags. No AH or EM at all. Healway/Boonway FTW. If your crit rate is over 10% you ain’t Guardianin’ right. ;P

Yeah, I didn’t explain that very well. I’ve been playing with Pure of Voice for months. I usually spec Boonway or Healway. I’m trying to get by with Purging Flames and Absolute Resolution.

Dropping 10 in Zeal would lose the 100% up time. I could change runes again and then drop 10 in Zeal but I’m killing stuff faster than my usual spec with Zealous blade and an extra 100 power.

I’m interested in seeing what you come up with for Cleric’s gear. I’m running a 20/0/0/20/30 build in Cleric’s with 100% burn duration right now and am having a pretty good time. I just need to close the gap on condition removal.

I just started using this build with 100% burning and was pretty impressed with the kill speed increase over my normal build this is in full clerics armor. I just swapped runes food and sigil. It is a combination of retaliation and burning for small are AoE damage. I left some slots empty because this is what I felt was most important. If you are already running full clerics this is a cool way to play with burning. For now these runes and sigils are pretty cheap. And yes I do mis pure of Voice but Smite Condition + switching Absolute Resolution in for Supreme Justice helps get around that.

Stick with Guardian but change your spec. Get Cleric Gear and put 30 points in Valor and Honor.

You will magically stop getting killed.

This may not be a super exciting 1vX video but it is a great example of the reality of Tier one this is what a lot of people don’t understand when they give tier one people crap about not roaming and not having a good dueling build.

I havent watched the vid yet (at work atm so tag for tonight) but there is no excuse for zerging unless thats your playstyle. No one is forcing you to zerg.

Who are you killing in Tier1? There are a tiny number of people outside the zergs in the current (this week) game. Your videos don’t even show any up-to-date thief footage. I’m not saying YOU have to be in a zerg I’m saying 95% of the enemy will be in a zerg.

I think they will give thieves buffs to Arrow Carts. That in conjunction with arrow carts and WvW traps removing stealth will make Thieves their own worst enemy. This leaves everyone else free to ignore thieves and play with each other. See it’s a buff that is also a nerf! We can’t even complain.

Have you played sine they buffed the Butcher? His boons reapply almost instantly now and his Totems respawn fast. I went S/D thinking the boon removal would help but they “tick” back on every 2-3 seconds.

Your 2 examples are still wrong. Mistform is a utility that you can not use. Vapor form is only one down state ability. The equivalent down state ability for Thief is smoke bomb which was also backdoor nerfed to be useless in PvE.

Revealed is a CORE MECHANIC there is no way to opt out of it. It is not the same as anything you are complaining about. The closest equivalent would be if they added a cool down to ALL forms so you couldn’t immediately switch from Fire to Water etc.

PS I play Thief and Elementalist. You obviously don’t play Thief.

what bothers me is anet responded to thief proposed nerf really fast, cencelled it replacing with a minor one, and then aswer again in few hours to say they had a meeting about removing it in pve AND www…..

What about eles?

If you’re talking about the Revealed change you can’t tell an apple from an orange. RTL is one skill on one weapon. Revealed is a core mechanic that affects every single Thief in the game.

I just hit 80 on my Thief alt 2 weeks ago. I love it for scouting in WvWvW but I’m having an extremely rough time in Dungeons. My main is a Guardian so adjusting to the squishiness is really hard.

HotW P1 is the hardest Dungeon for me so far. I just can’t figure out how I’m supposed to be useful. On the stairwell fight all I can do is use shortbow but even then I have to hang over the edge and get hit by ranged attacks. Then on the Final boss the only thing I felt useful doing was killing the retaliation totem.

I’m currently 0/20/30/20/0 and I use d/p or s/p and shortbow.

I just hit 80 last week on my Thief alt. Like one of the guys above said condition damage and caltrops on dodge leveled me really easily. Trait III in Trickery is what you are looking for. I used that with caltrops and death blossom and bled almost everything to death while leveling. Then I used ambush trap until I got thieves guild to spread the damage around on vets and packs. It is a surprisingly effective build for leveling. I’ve gone to Dagger pistol now that I’m 80 but bleds work great at low levels and the gear is cheap on the TP.

It has a lot to do with time of day IMO. At prime time in T1 we all are in teamspeak and following orders. The pugs tend to follow us once we flip some towers so you will get massive zerg v zerg during primetime.

After my Guild organized stuff ends and it gets late at night or early in the morning the zergs break up and you find a lot more roamers. At peak times you need to be in a zerg or at least attached to one.

The one way to still hunt with the zergs is to follow a zerg around but keep a good distance (over 1200). Then kill the stragglers that have the “wrong” guild tag. They are the least likely to have a direct line to the commander and be able to tell the zerg to turn.

It depends on whether you want a GS build or a sword build. They are sort of the main competitors in a max DPS Zerker build. I tune my build toward greatsword but run both. GS is much better against multiple targets.

Well, Guardians have much more condition removal. Also the ability to turns bad conditions into boons. Also passive condition removal. Also amazing low level traits. Also much more healing. Also better boons. Also more dodges.

They also have a lot more combat movement in there attacks too, that is always important, they are much more mobile when it comes to there damage. They also have access to a lot of blinds as well.

True. True. True. Dunno about that… True. True. Lolwut? Guardians have zero endurance regenerating skills or traits: Warriors have SoS and Building Momentum – 33% regen and half a bar on burst skill. We can go from zero to (hero) full in a matter of seconds, so no, Guardians do NOT have more dodges (which is another reason they got Protection and Aegis: they’re not very mobile).
Hm… I’ll admit that some of our weapons are basically stand-here-and-smash, but the GS, MH sword, rifle (optimal for kiting) and Hammer all favour movement.

Actually we do. (I play a Guardian) we can have 100% vigor up time pretty easily.

Yeah that’s a mistake I have the +5% crit sigil in my scepter. I must have just copied it from my Greatsword.

2H cool down is great don’t ever turn it off. I have this same “problem” and the way I deal with it is toggle Empowering Might and Pure of Voice back and forth based on the amount and severity of conditions We are experiencing. It has been working great. I mostly leave Pure of Voice on for emergencies but If I’m farming or know the dungeon has no conditions I switch to Empowering might.

Yeah most stuff is dead by the time my burn falls off. Or it still has Vulnerability or a condition on it from someone else which only drops the 10% for burning and not the 10% for conditions.

Someone mentioned Sigil of Fire but unfortunately it doesn’t put a real burn on the target it just does a “burst” of burn damage. I was using Sigil of Rage until the recent nerf. If they compensate it with a reduced cool down or longer duration I will probably go back to Sigil of Rage because it is extremely fun.

Viralseed, it is actually an additional 30-40% damage if you dodge your endurance away and open up at full health. You can do some hilariously high burst.

When people see that I don’t have AH they get all worked up and tell me I’m going to instantly die. With Pure of Voice and the DPS I do nothing in PvE even threatens me. In WvW I get a lot of killing blows with this build that I never did in my AH builds. So why all the hate?

I’d drop the elite on Necromancer, Guardian, and Elementalist without thinking twice.

I’d usually drop it on the Engineer.

I’d situationally drop it on Thief and Ranger.

I don’t think I’d ever drop it on Warrior or Mesmer.

Count me among the confused Sigil of Rage users. It was pretty bad but still fun. It is now completely useless. I really don’t understand why they looked beyond controlled sources of Quickness for this nerf.

Soldier Runes and add Purging Flames? It already has master of consecrations so that makes Purging Flames a 32sec cool down.

It depends on what you want to do. I assume you like great sword because you have it in your current build. Even though it looks nice on paper drop Zealous Blade. The healing isn’t worth it for what going 30 deep costs. Your stats also seem all over the place. I am running a build right now that uses Great sword and absolutely explodes all normal Orr mobs. I can solo vets easily and Solo Certain Champs depending on their irritating specials. BUT it is much more delicate than the usual AH build. You will have to pay attention to you shouts and dodges if you are trying to face tank.

Have you considered switching the 20 in Valor for Honor?
While in Effective Power you stay the same, it’s not really true because you’d need to maintain less than 100% endurance at all times, so it’s a little loss in damage here, but I’m thinking Empowering Might might make up for it (and it’s better for your group too), and you get to pick Battle Presence and Selfless Daring and some other good Major for support.

SHHHHHH! That’s what I do but “everyone” knows you have to go down Valor or you get torn up like wet toilet paper…

4600 is high for a Guardian. You can only really compare that stat between the same class.

Its an interesting build I run something similar with greatsword and scepter/shield. LAst night the pugs went down fast on the spider in AC and I duoed it with an elementalist who said, “great tanking!” with a greatsword and no AH. lol

PS- What is with the consecrations trait with no consecrations on the bar?

The question can’t be answered without knowing what you want to play. World Events? Dungeons? High level Fractals? sPvP? WvW?

I’ve been testing a variation on this build that some people might like. I personally find it much more effective in event PvE and WvW. I switch second set quite often between scepter/mace and focus/shield and staff. Greatsword is always on the other set. The shield 5 skill is just too good for pushing people off walls and away from finishing a teammate for me to switch to focus all the time. This build is higher DPS but doesn’t sacrifice much for survivability. I also “require” points in zeal to occasionally use the fall damage talent in WvW.

I had stopped playing my Guardain and rolled an Elementalist just because I was so frustrated with the mobility in WvW.

However, I think I am really suffering from non-optimal gear or a play style change. I feel really delicate in Dungeons compared to my AH build.

@Lan.1968 You’ve really never seen thieves use Thieves Guild offensively? I almost always see it as a finisher. Its probably because I survive the initial burst which I know a lot of classes don’t.

There isn’t a lot of LoS in WvW it is mostly open fields where I can’t run from a 25% speed boosted thief.

I hear that thieves are supposed to have trouble with Guardians. I play a Guardian and although I can live through the initial burst better than most classes when a thief uses Thieves Guild after I have had to heal from the initial burst it feels like there is nothing I can do. 3 seconds of immunity doesn’t make up for 30 seconds of extra thieves. This is mostly in WvW away from the zerg. It happens in sPvP too but the smaller group dynamic and fast respawn make it feel less painful.
