The first line: “passive pet” means the pet isn’t doing anything (ie. all ranger). Also, I didn’t use the F2 skill in any test. I did try a couple of them, but nothing worthy of putting in the timing results.
The Hyena is particularly bad DPS. It’s even worse when you use the F2 skill. The howl animation and resulting summon took so long that I don’t think the second one had a chance to do anything. It despawns before F2 comes ready again, too, which is another strike against that pet. It’s basically so bad that you’d need a crowd of about 4 hyenas up permanently to equal one bear.
Truly, hyena should be renamed chihuahua.
—
As for the other nice test suggestions, go for it. The mists are ready, waiting, and eager for you to go time some golem kills. The question I wanted to answer was “does pet dps matter?” The secondary was “are all pets equal or are some more equal?”
Um… Hyenas are quite strong, you are not taking the cast animation out of the time for the test which is pretty much just adding 2-3 seconds onto their time… and the Hyena despawns because there’s no “enemies” nearby after the target dies, infact, if you stay in combat, or at least follow the Hyena Ally around on his rampage and keep him alive via healing spring you can summon an infinite amount of hyenas.
I know while fighting my friend while i was teaching him how to fight a ranger he ignored my hyena and ended up having to fight me, my rock dog, and 4 Hyenas, quite a powerful pet…

People noticed. But, these aren’t new or related to the last patch. These are just more things that have been broken for ages… you know, cause Anet doesn’t ever fix anything.
IIRC, opening strike only works up to a certain range… and it might only work on auto-attack or something dumb also.
I can open up with 20 vuln on every fight if I have opening strikes up, you just need to be w/in 900 range, I personally think the range on it is stupid, it should be AT LEAST 1200….
Before I’m asked the vuln is from me and my pet using opening strikes (if YOU are out of range your pet won’t apply it either) and then me opening with Hunters Shot.
Pets Prowess has been bugged since drake pets have been bugged (BWE3) when both of those are fixed…. Oh god have mercy on the souls of the warriors I’m going to tear open!!
There shouldnt be a range limit too it, and even when Im point blank I dont get the vulnerability up with it. Also for those saying pets prowess isnt new, it is. Before patch my raven was hitting the light armored target for 3500 twice with his blinding slash, now its doing 2700-2800, so its obviously new since it only started after patch. I still dont know if it works on other attacks, but even if it does, a huge part of why I use it is because it goes perfectly with ravens on demand burst. Although jaguar would still be useful with it since all his attacks.
As for the opening strike, maybe Im firing off an arrow at max range before moving in close but I still never notice this trait working, or any of the pet buff traits working. Also from 1000-1500 range longbows auto attack turns off. Hopefully these get fixed, soon. Im personally kinda tired of waiting but no other games out are worth playing atm. Even with all its issues this game is still the best out.
I cant imagine how good drakes will be when they get fixed, a blast finisher with tail swipe + tons of damage. Tooltip says 1006 and under water its 1400+, does any1 know how this will convert to damage since pet attacks seem to show small numbers on tooltips yet hit soo hard. Point in case, blinding slash says about 650 but does 7-16k
Drakes would be absolutely AMAZING, i know in BWE2 (pre damage buff) his tail swipe would oneshot every glass canon it hit if i used Signet of the Hunt or great swords #5 as he was charging it up, it has THE MOST obvious animation i’ve ever seen though but my god does it WRECK people…
Ah…. i remember when my drake saved me from a hundred blades warrior by tailswipping him from half health to downed…. good times…. good times….
Oh btw, Chomp GREATLY increased the drakes survivability because it was a cone aoe (like the drake auto attack) that healed the drake based on either how much damage was done or how many targets he hit (didn’t have enough time to actually test it i just remember the more enemies there were the more health he got), not to mention that tool tip says it does 340 dmg or so, and seeing as how the 100 damage his auto attack does = 1k damage or so…. yeah… he’s going to show the cats and birds whose the real man on campus when it comes to damage!!

To add to this, drakes are currently bugged so god knows where they’ll stand when their other 2 skills are used, and you should really list the hyenas time when their F2 is used because they’re balanced around having that second Hyena up 24/7, other canines are NOT balanced around that.
PS: you should put how long it takes -you- to kill a golem with your auto attack to put it in better perspective on their dmg vs ours.

I faceroll everytime i get 25 bleed stacks / fire / poison on PvE content.
Not to mention your pet does like damage aswell =X
I cant even remotely think of a class that can get to 25 stacks so very often as a ranger.Thief with 2xdaggers/shortbow and caltrops. But it will be aoe with impressive radius and twice as much phisical damage. Even faster than the ranger to a point, it seems. The entire screen is in the numbers. Unforgettable sight. )
Yeah but that thief will be useless after that seeing as how their initiative will be gone… And last I checked the ranger puts his up with 2-3 skills the thief has to use caltrops and then spam leaping death blossom until their initiative is gone
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
I’ve never seen it not work. Pets don’t have an actual animation for reviving and don’t heal that much (they heal less than players unless you’re using Compassion Training), so maybe you’re just expecting it to do more than it is. Or maybe I just haven’t seen this bug, who knows.
The only problem I’ve seen with it is that if the pet is at low health (but not already downed) using Lick Wounds won’t heal it at all, then the pet will go down shortly after so you don’t get much healing, because once the pet is downed it stops healing. Better if the pet is already downed so that it gets healed to full health before you use it.
It’d be nice if Lick Wounds healed the pet to full health even if its not already downed.
As for bringing the aggro… if your pet has all the aggro then just don’t use Lick Wounds. You should be able to heal yourself with Bandage at that point.
No, it doesn’t work 100% i’d say it works about 75% of the time, it’s very easy to tell when it’s NOT working because if you’re lying there bleeding out in the backlines (like most rangers would) you wouldn’t be taking any damage, and as such your health should just be increasing but when it keeps spiraling downwards while your pet should be “rezzing” you…. it’s fairly obvious it’s not working….
What they -should- do is either make lick wounds full heal your pet, or make it so it works like Search And Rescue where they pet will continue to heal even if he dies, this way regardless of what happens you’ll get the healing from the skill (well the former would give you more healing then you do now in most scenarios but w/e)

When you start to favouritise things over something else, that something else becomes completely oblivious to the mind like it was never there in the first place. Therefore messing up your priorities of what’s more important to fix.
This is clearly evident with Anet.
So essentially what you’re saying is every prof but ranger is played and favorited by Anet… seems legit, you know, because it’s not like every other prof has had a good amount of fixes/buffs right?

I know that your pet gains Stealth and Protection from it, i was wondering if the stealth acts like the Jaguar’s stealth skill, where he stays in stealth the entire time, and every hit is a critical…or is it just one attack, with no guaranteed critical like a thief?
Also, does anybody use this skill and recommends it? if its stealth really does guarantee crits every time, i could have a jolly good time with my jaguar pet going Beastmaster
Ok, so the whole crits on stealth thing that is a CAT specific thing last i checked, and when i say cat i mean the entire cat family gets that bonus, i haven’t seen any other pets get the crit bonus from being stealthed, so as far as i know if you’re using anything other then a cat it will just be for one attack, however it still breaks agro which is really good for detaunting some bosses from mauling your pets face.
All in all, i wouldn’t touch any of the shouts but -maybe- “Sick’Em” (unless i’m using longbow in which case that shouts useless too) with a 10 ft pole, because by and large they’re not that great of skills and really are just another utility skill to put on the shelf and look at and say “God why can’t you actually be good?”
That being said, since a vast amount of our utilities are awful to begin with, you could just go with Guard on the Jaguar to ensure your pet has 2 100% crit moves, and in sPvP guard -can- be useful if you’re using a canine as you can put him in an area they have to run to t get to a capture point because i know wolves will ALWAYS come out of stealth with their KD.

Hey Anet, i love my drake pets, especially my new Reef drake (his name is bubbles), but the bug that prevents drake pets from using their Tail Swipe and Chomp attacks are -still- there, is this going to be fixed anytime soon? Or are my beloved drake pets going to just stay Subpar for even longer?
PS: This bug occurred in BWE3, drakes were fine pre BWE3 i hope that helps with figuring out what went wrong!!
I’m eager to see my drakes once again being awesome!!
Thanks,

Why the sense of entitlement to more speed for rangers? Who ordained the ranger a fast class?
GW1 where we had more movement speed increases then we could deal with….
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Yeah, i think the thread has essentially decided they were just bad, mesmer isn’t even my main and i don’t see them as OP, i think the reason a lot of people think they’re OP is because of the whole “Mind kitten” aspect of the prof
It’s pathetic for anyone to complain about mes at this point. We have major drawbacks that NO other class has to deal with… and people still complain. That just shows it’s their unwillingness to learn about the other classes and how to fight them… instead it seems most will just re-roll to another class, complain about their own, and call for nerfs on whatever beats… then the devs listen to those people -.-
Hey that sounds exactly like what i’ve heard in the ranger forums!! Personally i don’t notice any issues with mesmer, it has issues where if you break the clones faster then you can put it up that the survivability is pretty much destroyed… but other then that i haven’t seen many issues.
Other than the major damage bugs, multi hitting attacks being countered by a single dodge/block/blind (blinds arn’t even removed half the time after the failed phantom summon), 2 chances to avoid every phantom attack (on summon and once they attack), and the 20+ other major bugs we’ve had since launch… yea… no issues…
Well with the whole phantasm thing they kinda sit around until destroyed, so it kinda makes sense that they made it so they had 2 chances to block it… and i’ve never been able to dodge an entire multi hit attack by any prof, trust me, i’ve tried… blocks are different, there’s some blocks that can block for an entire duration, in which case it makes sense they block an entire multi hit attack…

Its 150% increased dmg and has a short cd.
Afaik it is 50% increase on 1 hit.
Like 750 instead of 500.
Considering our level of control over pet….Please make me a favor..Go to the Mists pick up a Jaguar, pick up the signet of the hunt and activate it.Dont do anything now…just click on your Jaguar….it have an icon saying attack of opportunity…and below says 150% more dmg in the next hit
“Attack of Opportunity is an effect that makes the next attack do 50% more damage”

Ooooh he linked the wiki guys!! You know, it’s not like i can go on there, edit a page to say anything and people will take it as teh word of god or anything…. oh wait they would…

Trident clones ALSO use the beta version of Sirens call, which is why they throw up confusion instead of doing damage and giving boons (just a fun fact).
The Beta version of Siren’s Call also heals allies, so that’s nice too.
Ah did not know that! i just knew it did confusion, well, now i like trident even more then i already did xD

If you’re playing sPvP, chances are at least half of the population still struggles with finding the real mesmer and they will get wrecked. Occasionally you’ll find someone more experienced who knows the “tells” and will stick to you like glue.
I wouldn’t say they’re OP, just that somewhat like thieves, they tend to stomp baddies for not understanding the game mechanics.
Well i was fighting with my friend and his guild of paid tourney pvpers and was wrecking all of them which is why i decided to make this thread… well at least i -think- they do well in paid tournies i just know he tells me all his armor is from there and i just shrug it off, not sure how believable it is if he goes for my clones 8/10 times….
The answer is within the title, mine call is the 2nd one: Your setup can be easily countered by keeping a certain distance. The non-issue you probability noticing could be duo their build, mainly close-range with little to no either vitality or toughness, also, I’m asuming that duo the wrongful use of their AoE ability, they simply let you stack more confusion than they can actually bear, thus.. they end killing they self.
..and I would also like to note that duo the recent changes to the mesmer class..
unless they unaware of your presence, letting use your core skill, is another symptom of why I’ve chosen this answer.
I don’t see how my build would be easily countered by distance, but i totally know what you’re talking about, they were mostly melee ranged builds or single target builds (a simple spawning a clone can destroy a single target builds damage because it changes their target) so it’s likely my build just did well against theirs?
And it actually turned out that a majority of my damage was from burning and bleeding, confusion was in there, but it wasn’t as high as those two.

Yeah that would be a whole lot of craziness, and we could do a count down guild-wide mind wrack to instantly clear the battle field. It would be an instant wipe with all that aoe burst.
LOL!! omg… “Drop the nuke in 5… 4….3….2….1….” nothing would be left on the battle field but the real mesmers xD it’d be amazing!!

Staff Clones use a Beta version of Winds of Chaos: the projectiles travel along the contours of the ground (meaning it cannot travel across gaps and has greatly reduced range up and down ledges) and Bleeding lasts 5s instead of 7s. Staff Clones also attack much slower than you do. Illusionary Elasticity doesn’t affect Staff Clones either, although getting a second hit on your own WoC is still very powerful.
Trident clones ALSO use the beta version of Sirens call, which is why they throw up confusion instead of doing damage and giving boons (just a fun fact).
However, the staff clone thing would explain why my clones weren’t really able to hit people up on ledges, now that i know this i’ll just swap to my scepter if i need to hit people standing up somewhere…

Well if we get about twenty or so people interest we will get the ball Rollin on the guild. I don’t know about the idea of making everyone look alike… Would probably get reported for botting lol. Plus I think a lot of people put a lot of work in on their current mesmers. But yeah even if we avoided siege or just teamed up with a random zerg it’ll be fun regardless.
Well think of it this way… for every mesmer you have 4 bodies lol, just imagine 50 mesmers (which with 3 clones for each of them makes it 200) attacking a keep, you know how intimidated most people would be? A lot would probably just not even TRY to defend it out of the fear of how many people are there.

If you do this, then here’s an idea for ya: Have everyone in the guild make a new Mesmer, and then make your characters look exactly the same.
This…. is…. AWESOME!! think of all the mindkittening that’d be going on as they try to fend off the mesmer hordes taking keeps…. i guarantee a lot of zergs (you know, the unintelligent masses of anybodies) would be completely stomped by a team of mesmers seeing as how on my lv 15 mesmer (pve, normally use him for sPvP) i just see people constantly chasing my clones around and only very rarely do they find me in the crowd… if everyone looked -the same- i just shutter to think about how hard it’d be to find a single real mesmer in that mess…

Just need a quick clarification. If I go staff, and quickly pump out 3 clones using ‘Phase Retreat’ and ‘Mirror Images’ OR ‘Phase Retreat’, ‘Decoy’ and ‘Phantasmal Warlock’, am i essentially continuously sending 4 loads of Winds of Chaos over and over and doing a ridiculous amount of conditions on the target? I’ve been playing a little and i’m not sure if it actually is doing it.
If you have 3 staff clones and then you, there will be conditions and boons everywhere, ESPECIALLY if you’re like me and you have the additional bounce trait, it’s pretty crazy….
And then if you throw a warlock in (dropping one of your clones) you’ll still have a large amount of conditions since the warlocks damage scales off of unique conditions and not stacks of conditions.
IE: If you have 25 stacks of bleed it’s only going to do 10% more damage, but if you have bleed, burning, and vuln up that’ll be 30% more damage.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
mesmer is not OP, if you ask me it has lots of UP skills, mantras being the major sucky utility skills.
the trick about mesmers (especially in sPvP) is knowing how to distinguish between the mesmer and it’s clones, once you’ve figured that you basically have just another caster on your hands.
Yeah even on my ranger (which many say is UP I don’t see it though) I don’t have issues against mes… I’m thinking it may just be bad players that could figure out where I was with all the staff teleports and clone spawning…
I don’t know. My mesmer “Windwoven” has given your ranger issues in tpvp
Are you sure? Because most mesmers i fight I end up on top, unless they portal their team to gang bang me (which has happened many a times granted) but i don’t consider that a fight with a mesmer but a fight with a team xD
EDIT: The name Windwoven sounds very familiar, i’ve totally fought you a few times at least for me to actually remember that name xD
EDIT2: Here’s the link, i just realized that with the staff i bring EVERY condition but immobilize (granted fear isn’t on demand) and EVERY boon but stability….

Yea, you’re a kitten good player and it shows in these videos, but the damage from Pain Inverter is just stupid, especially for a racial ability.
Hes full condition dmg based, the dmg is normal! Actually confusion dmg is based on the target and not the caster, people tend to forget about it and spam like crazy killin themselves. A simple conditon removal or wait for the 5 seconds and its dmg is 0.
Yea, but no one is going to expect 3 stacks of confusion and retaliation from a ranger, especially since this is something that can only happen in WvW.
Not only that, Who’s going to be watching for it as a ball of death is right in your face flipping around ;o)
You’d be surprised how many times people kill themselves after my Reef Drake puts 5stacks of confusion on them… a lot of people are to stupid to realize “Hey maybe i -shouldn’t- fight the greatsword ranger spinning to win infront of his drakes mouth…” when players learn this, melee range drakes wont be as worthwhile, but i don’t think they will =D.
PS: I’ve noticed that even my SYLVARI racials are better then our utilities… it’s pretty stupid…
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
I just love spirits, but I find it umm.. unfair that we must put 30 Trait points to the line if we want our spirits to move. Don’t know about others, but I think spirits aren’t that big help if they can’t follow you. And that’s one of the rangers problems. If you don’t max the spirits line they suck. If you want your pet to survive you must max that too.
All aspects of a ranger works that way. You want traps, You need to spec 30 points in skirmishing. Signets -30 points in marksmanship. You wont to use pets effectivly – beastmastery. Etc.
This, i noticed this as well, it’s freaking stupid, NO OTHER prof needs to do this to make their utilities worth something, however most profs do have things like this to make them -better- but to put them on par? Absolutely not! They really need to buff our utilities and -then- change the traits so that they make the utilities -better- then other utilities and not bring them up to par with other untraited utilities.

i am not quite sure about that honestly honestly if all pets had the reactiveness and the damage in there F2 that jellyfish have it would make the entire class a lot better
Drakes have more damage, but the reactiveness and on-demandness of it are not there…
EDIT: Well underwater the drakes F2 is on par with the jellyfish one, which is kinda annoying when you think about it…. now that i think about it, all the pets underwater have really quick activation on their skills and all of them are pretty powerful.

heh i like the spear the way it is, what i want to do is have that jellyfish pet on land i truly believe it is one of the best pets in the game!
It -IS- a pretty sexy pet… I really wish that my canines would be useable underwater though… Btw, did you know that Jellyfish have 2 combo fields underwater now?
PS: Does the #2 count as a whirl? And does the throw on #4 count as a projectile?
Really wanna know now because if not they should be, but if so, then jellyfish is that much better with a spear xD

I might be one of the very few Mesmers(or the only one) that run around with a Bifrost.
Your clone does equipped the Bifrost as you do, with the rainbow effect and footsteps. But it does not change the projectile of Wind of Chaos and Chaos Storm.
Hope it helps.
Does Bifrost change the particle effects on ANY of our spells? or no?
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
I don’t really have any complaints about our underwater abilities, to be honest. They work pretty well as they are. The 2 skill is a little mediocre, I suppose. They could possibly increase the duration or damage on it.
I do wish spears could be used as a land set though. Spears are such cool and amazingly effective weapons, it’s a shame that they locked them out of 98% of the game.
66.6% of the game, underwater has 1/3 of the content available.
That being said the only change i would like to see is to make it so that we can move while using the 5 skill, and/or when we throw our spear instead of counterattacking that we pull ourselves to the target or pull them to us (preferably the second).
The only reason i suggest the pull is because when you throw the spear it leaves a rope behind in the rangers hand, so it just kinda bugs me i can’t do anything with that lol

Why does the medium armor mask always have to be a bandit mask. Why can’t I have a leather hood. Or even a leather helm.
You can… idk WHAT armor set it is that has it, but i know there is one because i’ve seen people in one, i personally wear a full set of the Karma Armor (i was going for a sort of magey look, and priory wasn’t that cool imo), and then you can go with the creepy kitten mask thing my friends thief wears, it kinda reminds me of the mask from dishonored, i can let you know what it’s called next time i talk to him…

I started with a Ranger, then I switched to Necromancer…………………………………………..
Anet has trolled me pretty hard.
I am starting to hate this game. I don’t want to be a freaking Guardian/Thief/Mesmer/Warrior to excel in PvP, I want my Ranger OR my Necro to do it.
I think that’s one reason Anet doesn’t enable dueling. If people could regularly fight in 1v1 they could get a real feel for the disparity in class balance right now.
That’s really what it comes down to in my opinion. While we all can agree WvWvW isn’t a great telling of a class’ equality based on potential equipment level disparity, sPvP isn’t much better because anyone can say “YO GUYZ RANGERS ARENT BROKEN I GOT MAD KILLZ LAST NIGHT YOU SUCK” By drumming up some killshots or mismatches. 1v1 situations are your best bet, and we generally get slaughtered in said situations.
Yeah i normally just do tPvP with an actual group to determine whether my builds good or not… i love it when i get told “Zomg you’re so bad!! Stop playing ranger!” in sPvP when i get jumped by freakin 3 thieves about every 5 seconds, it’s like “Oh boy, that’s a sign of balance…”

This is a non shatter build i am using at the moment.
Atleast i don’t shatter then with shatter skills, i let them shatter on death.
Unless i would be in a very bad situation i can use distortion shatter.
So everytime they get killed, they are overwritten or target dies i do a bunch of condition to them and cripple them.
My targets are practically always crippled cause i pump out so many clones and phantasms.
Also the clones themselves are very nasty, staffclones do their own condition + more bleeds from sharper images, and the swordclones do vuln + bleeds.
Because of my high precision they crit a lot.
Having this much conditions out makes the warlock have stronger attack.
And the duellist just spams stacks of bleeds, do a combo with feedback and he’ll stack some confusion aswell.
This is mainly a pve build though, i have no idea how good it is in pvp.
Also need some further testing in wvw.
You can also switch the pistol for a focus if you prefer playing that.
One of my friends found out that sword clones do the full combo, which means that they ALSO remove a boon, so you have that going for your sword clones as well =D!

Yeahh, I’m a mesmer and I’d really like to know how the Bifrost effects our skills. I do believe they look the same as us though. Just wanted to know if theres some kind of rainbow effect changing WInd of Chaos look or Chaos Storm, the same way Legendary GS’s effect directly warrior skills using it. Otherwise I might just go for Twilight like everyone else.
And yeah, can’t find Mesmer’s with The Bifrost anywhere.
I must be the only person that’s not a fan of Twilight…
@OP I’d imagine it’d effect your clones as well mostly because the effect is likely tied to the staff itself so if they are wielding the staff they’d have the effects as well…
Let me know if you find out, because i freaking LOVE The Bifrost, and would love to know if my favorite staff skill set is able to look super awesome with it!!

spirits amplify the groups power SIGNIFICANTLY MORE then any war banner can
But war banners are invincible, and can be picked up and repositioned by any character. Spirits are squishy and die as soon as they get targeted or AoE’d.
War banners also have an inferior buff compared to spirits, our defensive spirit makes everyone who gets the proc take 33.3% less damage for 4 seconds, no war banner can even come CLOSE to that lv of a buff, then our main offensive one causes 10% more damage, no war banner can do that (unless someone effected literally has no power/precision or condi damage)
Spirit pets only proc on a single person in the vicinity and it is completely random who gets it. Warriors also trait banners to do damage when summoned and grant regeneration. The ranger traits the spirits to move and have a little bit more health.
You clearly don’t use spirits… The ICD is per PERSON not per spirit, that means if I proc protection the thief next to me can also proc protection, however after its procced that person can’t get it again until 10s is up, and I’d hardly call it random….
<.< It’s random. You have a percentage chance to proc, once its procced on a person, no one has a chance to proc it again until the cool down is over.
Nope every person that is in the 900 radius of the spirit when it pulses gets a non strippable buff that enables them to have a chance to proc the spirits effect.
Unlike war banners the ranger can also move all three at once. But only if specced. Much like a warrior can have a larger radius 1200 but only when specced and the regen effect is powerful if traited.
spirits weakness is survivability.
We tested them right after the nerf. If it procs for one individual, it won’t proc for another until the cooldown is over.
This is false, nothing i have seen proves this, PERIOD

Mesmer is highly dependent on player skill. on paper you could say its UP but a good player can do anything behind a mesmer. Were pretty great at backing up allies too. those clones get a little more confusing when there not the only thing running at you. con effects and aoe boons are always awesome.
It’s even more confusing when there’s multiple mesmers I remember I was in a 5v5 against a team of all mesmers and it was awful trying to figure out what was happening other then the fact that we were losing…

Mesmers will always be “OP” to a majority of players. (they’re not)
It’s just the nature of the class. Any class that can make multiple personas of its self, will be deemed op. You could nerf this class into the ground, and people would still complain. Only way to get people to stop complaining would be starting the class from scratch.
Personally I love the Mesmer. Anet did a great job with the profession.
Oh I agree I LOVE the class mechanic, it’s really fun, and I know in tPvP it’s hard (for me at least) to give an accurate number on how many people are attacking a point.

This, spirits in 1v1 are -ok- and i really only use them for their active (IE i need a blind NOW or i need an immob etc) where is in a large group i can park the spirit behind some of the meat shields, er i mean allies, and watch the enemies just get torn to shreds as the spirits amplify the groups power SIGNIFICANTLY MORE then any war banner can, i mean cmon, 100 toughness/vitality…. or 33% damage reduction, take your pick… oh yeah, that’s right whose got the better summon now?
what about hammer guard, which already gives permanent protection to the melee classes? a defensive banner stacks with this protection, and with traits gives permanent regen. also banners can’t be killed by stray aoe, and aren’t random. let’s not get too carried away – spirits need some work.
Never said they didn’t need more work, and hammer guardians don’t give perma prot…. But they do give a decent amount of coverage to people in immediate Melee range

the spirit HP trait needs to be reworked into +80% hp and -80% damage taken. the current 100% health increase don’t keep it from being one shot by everything veteran and above.
This would be a welcome change that I’d like and use quite a bit

I would HEAVILY approve of this change, I love confusion as is, but my god this would just be hilariously awesome!!

mesmer is not OP, if you ask me it has lots of UP skills, mantras being the major sucky utility skills.
the trick about mesmers (especially in sPvP) is knowing how to distinguish between the mesmer and it’s clones, once you’ve figured that you basically have just another caster on your hands.
Yeah even on my ranger (which many say is UP I don’t see it though) I don’t have issues against mes… I’m thinking it may just be bad players that could figure out where I was with all the staff teleports and clone spawning…

with this build how do you do any damage? Can you link your build? It doesn’t look like it’s able to provide any significant damage.
It’s a condi+ shatter build, it doesn’t have that great if -burst- but it has very strong single target and AoE sustain, between poison, burning, bleeding, confusion and interrupts it brings people down.

The banner weakness is lack of mobility and the buff not being -that- great (it’s good, but not game changing)

Ok, so my Mesmer runs a 0/0/30/10/30 w/ nightmare runes and a shaman pendant in PvP and I just wreck everyone with little to no effort on my part, where when I play my ranger, or my guardian (granted I’m god awful at guardian) I do not do -nearly- as well…
So would you guys say mesmers are OP? Or do bads just not do well against mesmers? I personally haven’t had many issues against mesmers, but idk…
Thoughts?
PS: maybe it’s just the build? I can and will link the build itself later, the weapon combo is Staff +scepter/torch, heal is mirror, utilities are mirror images, the mantra that dazes, sig of illusions and the elite is mass invis.

I think it’d be cool, but it really doesn’t fit with ranger (which kinda saddens me because it seems like it’d be a really fun and BA mechanic), the main reason it wouldn’t fit is as the above guy said, our pets are living breathing things, so it just wouldn’t fit…
PS: you’d still need to be able to put your pet on passive/aggressive as well as to call your pet to you and send him out.
