Personally think the skill should be remade. It should give the pet 15 seconds where the pet will search within 2000 units for a downed ally and if it finds one in that time frame it will go rez them. If it manages to rez somebody before the 15s is up, it will continue searching and if somebody else is down nearby it will go rez them.

I am a norn and I use the elite skill often. But the pet is not dead after coming out of the norn form. It is dead when I switch it as a norn. Thats what matters me. And I will not stop using my form because of a bug.
It’s a known bug that if you use your norn elite while your pet is dead when you swap pets your other pet will be dead, just use the form -before- your current pet is dead.

Delete Sceptre (you made it useless anyway) and replace it with a…pistol!!! Mesmer’s need duel pistol’s do it now!!
Don’t delete scepter, just make it into total clone generator and make pistol a confusion weapon, problem solved! And then I can start working for Quip!

They did a ’smiter’s boon’ to search and rescue in pvp with that insane cd. And the fact that they nerfed it to only work on downed players in pve as well was uncalled for.

I feel bad for them with RtL because if you dodge it, they get the 40s cd even though they were using it to close, not escape. It’s a bad design with that change and the newest way to troll elementalists.
They are pretty ridiculous, though I think Thief is now king of the ridiculous hill.
Actually if it pops up with “Evade” you get the 20s CD because the game counts it as a “hit” the enemy just mitigated the effect.
If they Block, Evade, are Immune/invuln, or it “misses” then you still get the 20s CD.

I 100% agree with you Durz. The nerfs to Search & Rescue and Ride the Lightning are two I’m not in agreement with … and one doesn’t affect me (I haven’t played my ele in a long time except to craft)
I’m fine with the RTL one, it was ridiculous how easily they could get in and out of combat with absolutely no drawbacks. And it’s not like they don’t have other leaps, or teleports, or a movement speed buff etc.

Yeah, I was aggravated to see this as well. Since the pet can be killed while doing this, I always thought it was pretty well-balanced before the patch. Post-patch, meh.
This, granted it’s still a good Rez skill (in PvE that is), just not as useful as before.
I think it’s now one of the worst, if not the worst, rez skill in PvP given it has no advantages over the other rezzes to compensate for its disadvantages (feel free to correct me on this if anyone can).
In PvE, it’s middle of the road at best. It’s only compensation is a lower cooldown than average for rez skills.
Only thing I can even think of to make up for the stupid long CD in PvP is that it’s the fastest activating one… But at the same time it’s the slowest to Rez…

It would be enough if the scepter attacks just did what the tooltip says – cause confusion on third attack in the chain. This has been bugged since beta.
Not bugged nerfed, back when confusion hit EXTREMELY hard, but now that its been nerfed to the ground Scepter should get its confusion back.

Also keep in mind that Healing Signet is the warriors HEAL where as Sig of the Wild is a UTILITY, if our utility healed us for more than the warriors Heal i’d be concerned…
I think that would be a good argument if we were comparing the actives, but we’re not. We’re comparing signet passives.
The heal Signets, with the exception of Guardian, are designed to keep you up without the active and simply using the active for a burst heal, if warriors were getting less healing than sig of the wild or even on Par there’s something HORRIBLY wrong with how Anet is balancing them.

Well my lv 3 Mesmer carried a few groups of 80s through Molten Facility, but other than that I haven’t done too much PvE on em.

In a pvp scenario their wont be 25 stacks of might. 25 stacks is only for dungeon scenario.
In a pvp scenario you and your pet will still be doing massive damage without might! Sword cripples well enough for pets to land their hits.
25 stacks of might isn’t only PvE, some builds (like HGH engi) stack up to 25 stacks of might in PvP as well, i know there’s a few GC warrior GS builds that do it (might on crit on their strongest weapon is super fair and balanced).
And rangers do massive damage EVERYWHERE without might, the only people that really outshine us are Warriors and Thieves because it seems everyone has a kitten for burst.

Which is pointless, because the idea is that you can use cats to begin with.
Bear does less damage than a condi spec’s burning tick. It’s that bad.
And when ranger are hitting autos for half the damage of other classes’ autos, then the kitten pet better be compensating for that. And the only pets that compensate for that are cats.
You do realize bears have a quicker attack animation and thus attack faster than other pets right?
That being said, bears will NOT do damage between cats and dogs because of one very simple thing, their skills will not allow them to, their 1 skill is their only real “damage” skill, granted it does scale very well with power and precision. Their 3 skill is a defensive ability, and although their 2 does “more” damage it’s defensive, longer cast, and prevents them from using their quick auto attack.

I always love it when people say rangers aren’t as good at damage because they can’t uber stack might and vuln, yet you put them in a scenario where they get those and they will destroy everything because their doing a ton of damage WITHOUT those…
Warriors stack might, vuln, and fury naturally, so it’s easy for the average player to pick up their warrior, spam all their shouts, and do HB on something and see a big number and assume that’s just due to high base DPS. However, it is very easy for a well-organized group to maintain 15-20 stacks of might and vulnerability constantly, if not 25, so the classes that appear to deal less damage without might actually end up being much stronger. Ranger DPS skyrockets, as does guardian (although in their case it’s fury they need, not might).
The problem isn’t “uber-stacking” might and vuln though, it’s that their base DPS on the most commonly used weapons is low. In that same dungeon run, I dropped the controller way faster than any warrior I’ve ever seen do it, and my party members had no idea how I was doing it. Sword ranger DPS simply isn’t on most people’s radar.
I’m not surprised a lot of people aren’t doing as much damage on ranger as they want, they seem to think “ranger” means to fight from range… You know despite the fact ANET said melee damage will always be greater than ranged…

After almost downing it, the rangers pet interrupts me, then starts chasing me around as I try and kill it. Then downs me with a 6k hit.
Then it proceeds to rez the downed ranger, then they both destroy me.
Fun fun fun!

I’ll C&D or Black Powder to get the stomp in, but no way will I use shadow refuge to do that. It’s a crutch for subpar players and only really needed when you are being swarmed.
He’s right though. I honestly can’t remember the last time a thief spiked me when not stealthed. It’s got to be weeks ago, and I play like 3 hours of W3 everyday.
I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw a thief even try to spike without first stealthing. Stealth is readily available for them, and it makes spiking a triviality.
I spike all the time with my sword without relying on stealth, but I have to agree that it’s a rare sight. But then again, Anet designed the thief to rely on stealth to get any burst, so it’s not that weird that you don’t see thieves spiking without stealth.

That only works against sub par rangers, we can still daze you while you’re stealthed with our 2, and fear you with our wolfs F2, and if you’re using a drake event hit you with the drake breathe if you stealth by our corpse…
Indeed. Good rangers are a pain to finish off… I’m not sure about this, but if I blind and stealth I think you will miss that daze? At least the rangers have failed to daze me since they’re lying in my blinding powder :p
You will if you’re blinded, however if you auto attack and then hit the 2 (it fires off really quickly) you’ll be able to get it off.

Why don’t they just do the easiest thing possible? Make the Signet a 1s pulse and a 1s duration, problem solved, it’s still temporary buff and it’s more useful as a passive, I mean c’mon it can’t be -that- hard to fix it.

They will still die. Just go to an aoe intensive fight and it won’t matter if they stand behind the mob or not, or fights with oneshotting boss mechanics (like Grenth).
Things have improved for sure, but make no mistake – pets are NOT immortal now.
Bears are, if you take 30 BM, sig of stone, sig of wild and guard the bear will not die, he can tank 2 Karkas Simultaneously without me needing to heal him

Well I’ve never -needed- to swap bubbles in an instance since the patch, I’ve done the new dungeon twice, done AC rumble path, and 2 CM paths and Bubbles just kinda doesn’t die anymore, every dungeon he’s ended with 25MB and face tanked several mobs for the group…
Oh yeah, then there’s also the whole Bears have ascended to Immortality and just don’t even know what death is anymore.

@Zenith, well Rampagers is equal to Berserkers armor in PvE so long as you’re the only condi user (or your condis don’t overlap) in the group.
And I use compassion training when I run Moas… Sometimes, I’ve been taking Commanding Voice and Speed Training now that those aren’t garbage though.
EDIT: keep in mind to me PvE is just a playground and shouldn’t be taken “hard core” so I don’t go for any sort of “competitive” builds there, as you can see by my Magi Ranger going for a BM/Healer build xD.

PvE: I use it to get my pet out of the fire immediately (always seem to B line it to the area specified) give him protection, and an aggro drop as I call him back to the safety that is 1000 units or so away so I can heal him.
WvW: Prot has saved my pet a lot, also used to put him far out to the side of the Zerg so he can go into the Zerg from a flank or the side IE: where the AoEs aren’t. Also use it to create the illusion I swapped pets or to get a Sneak Attack drake breathe off, they can’t dodge what they can’t see.
sPvP: to make myself look like a thief if in guarding a point (guy standing “alone” at a point with S/D probably a thief….), give my pet access to stealth (again, sneak attack drake breathes are stupid strong), and to create the illusion I pet swapped.

The class design is pretty loud and clear in that there is no intent to trivialize the pet’s contribution; when you play a Ranger you’re taking the Ranger and the pet as an assumption of every build option. You’re not playing “either or” in the same sense that no matter how much one of your Elementalist’s elements is specced into, you’re not able to make it defining. You’re still tied to the responsibility of all four elements to play any build capably.
I agree that this is what is evident, I am saying that if you want build diversity, this is the wrong way to go.
How’s it the wrong way to go? We have a large amount of pets to choose from (you don’t have to use canines in PvP like so many forum goers seem to think) and you can buff your pet without even going into BM, hell skirmishing has like what? 4 traits early on to buff the pet? (Granted one is total kitten). We have TONS of diversity, I mean hell just changing my pets can change my role in dungeons with my current build.

Because he’s not jumping on the “Rangers are awful in WvW and PvE” bandwagon but doesn’t have any vids to prove it, I’ve done a little bit of PvE with Chopps and he/she certainly isn’t a bad ranger.
Done some PvP too, needs a little work in that aspect, but so do a lot of PvE/WvW heavy players.

I’ve done 5 instances since the patch everytime my pet wasn’t face tanking a mob for us he’d run around the target and begin to attack their back, it makes keeping the pet up stupid easy.
That’s how it should have been from the start then, right?
Now all we’d need is basic resistance to AoE (with increased resistance through a trait maybe?) and we might have pets similar to ‘that other MMO’ who won’t die in less than a second because of random AoE and faulty AI.
Idk, my pets haven’t died, end of story, since the patch, then again I’m running a signet BM build atm so my pet has regen, armor increase, perma prot and is just an all around BA, now if only I had some berserker armor to compliment the build….

Am I the only one who sees the irony in improving the toughness for pets, and then in the same patch, add a dungeon where pets get completely destroyed by AoE damage?
Stop usin a cat? My wolf and drake have been staying up quite easily in that new dungeon, intact Bubbles face tanked the last boss for us now that he has perma prot…

Personally, given the pets available, I’d say that bears are the only other candidate for a “cleave” function. Have any of you seen an angry bear in real life? Hands down the scariest critter in north america, when it’s feeling uppity.
Bears should cleave too, they need -something- to be taken for other than “tank”
And Drakes are amazing now FYI, me and Bubbles have been tearing things to shreds in PvE.

If you go to the waypoint between the 2 ports (to the south a bit) you will see the consortium in construction, they’ve been adding more and more since the start of this entire event, some of them can be spoken to btw.
