While you’re at it PLEASE add Rainbow Phoenix to hom!! it was the best pet ever
http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/3/32/Rainbow_phoenix.jpg make it like that exactly like that!!
As much as i would LOOOOOOOOOVE the Rainbow Phoenix to be added there’s no skill set that’d fit it, i mean, i guess you -could- make it a bird but it’s far to big and i think that the Pheonixs deserve their own skill set…
Maybe if we ever get a Cantha expansion they can add in the Pheonix and then the Rainbow Pheonix as well for HoM? Or, maybe there will be a Bird as massive as the Pheonix in Elona or another expansion that the pheonix can have the same move set for?

i could care less for damage boosts. What about fixing the timer on Endure pain? Scalling our heals up to match our HP Pool or reducing the cool downs. Condition removal? Giving us protection? What about all those things?
Dogged March replaces Turtle’s Defense.
Dogged March: All incoming conditions give regen, all movement impairing conditions have their duration reduced by 33%.

Where can I read about the upcoming changes?
Also, I’m concerned even a 75% proc for Spirit of Ice still does not justify a skill slot. The Warrior’s Banner of Discipline is basically a flat 15% dmg increase when you consider the fact it increases precision to the point 90% of your attacks are critical hits.
However, if they somehow resurrect the Ritualist’s usefulness in the Ranger, I will be very pleased.
It does? Huh… when i’m buffed by that banner my crit chance is 12%… oh look, my damage was barely adjusted at all, thank god that banner was there to buff my damage by 15%, you know, which it didn’t do because i don’t have a lot of crit…
Spirit of Frost > Banner of Discipline since you don’t need to crit for the damage increase… not to mention they -do- play nice together and both of them combined is A LOT of damage since the spirit of frost is applied PRIOR to the crit damage bonus.

lol i hope so

Glass Canon Sword/Torch ranger + Elixir of Heroes…. my god i never realized how OP it was to have 6 seconds (or is it 5?) of invuln… it just lasts forever!!
PS: THE TOOL TIP IS WRONG, so don’t tell me, “Oh well the Tooltip says it’s only 3!”
Slot that and protect me and a brown bear; get yourself some berserker gear, you’ll never die. /s
And if you -really- want to take sig of stone too, “Hey guys 3 invulns says to go kitten yourself!”

I bet! We were laughing our tails off with just 5 of us (and some were uplevelled!). I can only imagine the shenanigans you did with 15 rangers.
Especially since only 3 of them were up leveled and everyone but me was in Rampagers gear xD (I used the spike and frost trap for utility and brought a frost spirit so I wouldn’t be screwing over any condi damage!) it was glorious…
I wanna do it again sometime lol

I’d say you should go forward and make this change. If people like the current look, they can simply get the blue Jellyfish. More diversity is better than pointless redudancy.
Not to mention they have the same F2s, so they’d literally have 0 drawbacks.

i assume, you guys should fix the class itself first… but as you said… you know what happens when you assume…
Yeah… the Class could use -some- fixes, but i’d much rather have my HoM reward be shiney and pretty than be balanced in WvW and PvE (we’re fine in PvP which is where i play competitively).
Then again that’s me, and my opinion… and i know a lot of people are going to screech at me for it xD

Where the heck were you that you coordinated 15 rangers? I’m jealous.
We rangers are keeping tabs on each other a bit on EB, but I’ve never had more than 5 run together and that was before Guard got nerfed from putting pets on the walls (5 rangers clearing siege and causing mayhem, lol)
lol a guild on TC was having an event where they were advertising for rangers for a Mercenary Mission, idk what their whole event was for but they allowed me to tag along, it was glorious!

Ah, I was thinking in the middle of pushing through an enemy zerg you’re in the middle of busting. The item on the ground would be a bit harder to see under the feet of your 10 guys and their 20 to 30.
lol yeah i’m not a huge fan of WvW zerg warfare xD, Only time i’ve done a coordinated Zerg take down was me and 14 other rangers all took traps and Longbows and throw them down in choke points and just waited…. omg it was disgusting how fast everyone died xD.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Honestly, I’ve begun to question why our pet swap cooldown is increased when the pet is killed.
- If a warrior misses his attack with a burst skill, he does not consume his adrenaline.
- If my illusions are killed prematurely and/or my shatters miss, my Mesmer’s shatter/illusion skills don’t go on longer cooldowns.
- If a necromancer is forced out of death shroud because life force hit 0 instead of voluntarily leaving that form, the cooldown is not increased.
I think being forced away from using that one pet is bad enough. Not to mention there is now a window where if the other pet is killed your still without a pet … it’s just not a minute long.
Omg i agree… they should change it back, i understand when we could rez our pet A LOT faster than 60s if we stopped DPSing for a little bit to do so, but now we don’t -have- that option anymore. If they want to “punish” you for bad play (half the time in PvE it’s not bad play, at least for me, it’s gimmicky 1 shot mechanics my pet can’t dodge) then make it like 30s, but 60 is waaaaaaaay too long.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Lol, very nice :-) Smart plan and a great example of adapting.
So many people think they have to punch through everything … obviously the answer to everything is “MORE DPS!” ;-)
lol ours was evade and ambush xD 2 trap rangers, 2 trap + burst thieves + a S/D burst ele… poor enemy team couldn’t make it to most points before we collapsed in on them and killed them in 2v1 or 1v1 skirms, but my god did we suck in team fights lol, just avoid those things xD
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Yes, that is the one downside to it … but that’s a bit difficult to coordinate in the middle of a fight.
I’ve had no issue Coordinating it amongst melee team members (2 of my friends ONLY play melee, ones a guardian so i don’t blame him on that one…) so they’re normally the ones i’ll have use the goodies unless we’re in tPvP then i’ll normally use them and would much rather just have it slotted into the F2 skill when he forages it up (like Thieves) instead of how it is currently…
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
It’s the high level fractals that are aggravating on the Ranger :-)
Particularly the bosses that cover the ground in random AOEs (collosus) and the darn beam at the end that targets your pet, making you swap, then targets it again in 5 seconds.
That stupid Jade Maw and his pet bias needs to DIE!! At least put a 15s CD on how soon he can target ANY of the pets (not players) -_-’

Aye, Durz. It is quite nice. My only problem is the way F2 forage skill works. If it worked more like the Thief’s steal ability, I’d love it. As it is, you have to:
- Babysit F2 to make sure it went off
- See where your pet dropped the random item
- Get there to pick it up
- Use it
I’d much rather have it simply change the F2 to the item. Pigs are supposed to be smarter than dogs, so it should be able to fetch it and bring it to me. My dog in RL can ;-)
Well when i use my pigs i’m a very melee oriented build so i’m always like right ontop of my pet so a few of those aren’t that big of a deal.
However i agree, its F2 should be replaced by the environmental item, OR your weapon skills get replaced by the environmental item immediately when it digs it up (IE it just throws it to you) shrugs I do like how my allies can use it now though…
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Time Warp was not too good. It was balanced around having to clump your group up under it and its long cooldown. Not to mention people can simply move out of range of your group while you are standing in that timewarp … sadly many were too stupid to do so so they died to 5 people with quickness.
Boom, what me and my friends would do in tPvP was “fake” a team fight at mid (we were all super mobile and had tons of escapes), and once they popped Time Warp just disengaged and got everything else, it’s like "Whelp, don’t gotta worry about that skill for a while!

What’s so wrong with using your per to supplement your bow attacks? The ranger is capable of bursting a target down in a flash at 1500 range (at least it works on golem dummies). I’ve yet to play a ranged class that can do the same consistently every few seconds.
Oh we can, especially if you run a berserker build + a cat, -I- do not like being a full glass canon so if -I- go glass my pet goes tanky/supporty (even in PvP) to kinda balance it out… It’s fun, really squishy and requires range (oh look… it’s like the “OP” HGH engi build…) but it’s certainly good.

@ObscureOne
“Maybe on your tier in WvW, but never in tier 1 and 2 where getting ripped apart by a Ranger is something you are relentlessly mocked for”
I play a ranger on tier 2. I love hearing about this attitude, though I’ve never experienced myself. I believe that those who have this attitude probably mostly roll with zergs and rarely roam in small groups/solo which would allow them to see what a good ranger can accomplish.
lol i play T2 atm, and at the look of it TC is going to move into T1 for a week and make me sad because as said above, roaming in small groups becomes significantly harder and less effective =(.
Oh well, i can always hope we will fall back into T2 so i can range on my ranger and still be able to ZvZ on my Ele (nothing makes me smile more than seeing the damage numbers from a Glyph of Elemental Powered Meteor Shower + Ice Storm xD)

Longbow auto attack defies physics.
The only way it should do more damage at longer ranges is if you were to shoot it an upward angle and use gravity to increase its velocity on the downward arc, however that is not the case in game since you are easily obstructed on your shots.
Firing an arrow in a straight line will cause it to do less damage the further it goes.
I am not claiming to be the smartest person in the world, but this is not really complicated logic either.
I’m not necessarily arguing they shouldn’t change it for the sake of balance, but it’s more thematically appropriate than you think.
You are not supposed to interpret the damage mechanics so literally. Like combat in turn-base games, the mechanics are an abstraction. In other words, the implication is not that your arrow will gain momentum and therefore do more damage the further it flies. The implication is rather that a Longbow is designed to be used as a long range sniping weapon and not as a short range skirmishing weapon. At short range, the Longbow would in fact be clumsy, slow, and inaccurate- because of that, it is more effective at long range. That’s what the ranged-dependent damage values represent.
Part of the problem currently is that Long Range Shot is too weak for how slow its refire is. This makes it seem like its base damage is at long range and it gets a damage handicap at shorter range, when it should be the opposite- its base damage is at short range and it gets a damage bonus at long range.
Actually they said back in beta Long Range Shot is supposed to be weak damage close range, normal damage mid range (let’s just saw short bow dmg from front) and improved damage from long range.
That being said I always thought of it as 1) a longbow is kinda big and makes it harder to pull back and shoot when things are trying to cut your limbs off. 2) you can focus better and thus aim better, an this hit a more vital location at long range.

Yeah I’ll keep my jaguar as my main pet, seems like a good choice.
What I’m trying to accomplish here is a fun and effective build which works well for dungeons using some melee (really like melee ranger) and pet. I’m not sure if I should go very tanky with pvt and let the pet to the dmg, go conditions or go power/crit or some kind of hybrid :S
Hmmm, you could always be your pets “pocket healer” and go with a build to just kinda boost your pet up and keep him going with a healing armor set like Clerics.

@Sebrent, i thought the way Burning and Poison worked was that say your Burning did 2k damage (i’m just using simple numbers not realistic ones), and mine did 1k, and we both applied 4 seconds of burning to the target (mine then yours) that your burning would tick first and then mine would go after yours has fallen off.
I could be wrong though.
You may be correct. Perhaps we need a few more to jump in on this and possibly provide a link to legit information on the subject :-)

@Ladylad if you really want to take into account EVERY access to movement impairing conditions (IE can’t have them all in one build) against the ranger YOU WILL LOSE, because you know, not like we don’t have access to immobs through pet, or KDs, or KBs, or fear…
PS: since when do d/d eles -kite- people? That’s like saying a dagger necro has an immob for kiting…
Not every elementalist is a D/D elementalist. I’m sure not. A good Elementalist will never have an issue with any condition, or stun. Just saying.
And your pet applying anything to a player just means that player has learn to play issues.
You just made an argument about eles being “amazing kiters” due to their CC list and a large amount of those skills are from daggers, another large amount are from conjures…
And I -know- eles can stay at range nicely and can kite I play a staff ele… But they’re kitten if paired with a ranger.
D/D Elementalist will have a hard time fighting any ranged build, but the smarter ones do not run D/D, and will tear up Rangers, or any ranged build for that matter. Keep an eye out for the HGH Engineer builds, you’ll be surprised at how well they play, and how well they kite anyone who chooses not to carry a ranged weapon. The Engineer will quickly become the next Elementalist that people complain about.
HGH has been around forever, it’s no stronger than it originally was either so idk how it’d suddenly become the next D/D ele…

Stooperdale.3560 and Canguro.5768 please refrain from comments if you don’t know how group fights are done in high tier WvW.
What he means is that in the so called higher tiers they love to stack up into balls and spam combo fields on themselves, before rushing into the enemy spamming the #1 button with their forehead. Its super pro… well maybe not, but it is easy and that is what ANET has made GW2 all about, easy.

Meh I could go axe/dagger with the same result, that and there’d be no way in hell they’d catch me if I had an axe/dagger and offhand training… Mix that with 2 spider pets, intimidation training, some condi duration, malice training (50%condi duration from pet) spike/frost trap/muddy terrain/stone spirit/ LR and all I can say is good kittening luck catching me.

Pets have their own malice (condition dmg bonus) so each stack the pet applies will tick for its base 42~ dmg regardless of any other condition applied by anyone to the target.
You can buff pet condi damage through Expertise Training (WS 10pt trait) boosting their Condi damage by 350 at lv 80, so it wont -have- to be Base.

To be honest, the Ranger in Aion is very fun prof to play, however it wouldn’t work in GW2 because it can’t do anything but kill stuff and some snares, which are 2 things rangers can already do.
I do wish we had a trait where our ranged attacks had a % chance (maybe make it like 50% with a 30s CD or something) to stun the enemy, tack it onto the Remorseless trait in Marksmanship or something, it’d give some nice synergy in our trait lines.

Trait: Barkskin the effect triggers individually for pet and ranger an stacks ADDITIVELY with both protection and frost armor which can net up to a 73% damage reduction.
By individually I mean if pet has 25% or less health it gets Barkskin, if ranger has 25% or less he gets Barkskin, the other will not gain the effect until they reach the appropriate health %
This is not true. If Barkskin is up, you only get the damage reduction of Barkskin, and not get anything from Protection. This was tested, and confirmed.
There is a hard cap to damage reduction, like there is a hard cap to run speed. <winks>
If this were true then why have there been so many tests proving frost armor and protection stack?
I don’t think you guys, any of you, should post information like this without facts to back it up.
When custom arenas comes, it will be much easier to test stuff like this out to know for sure, and not just speculate.
It would be easier to test because you could bring steady weapons in without getting totally screwed over when the server fills with people…
But seriously, go to the ele forums if you want their test results they did a TON of them when they first added the frost armor reduces damage thing and it all points to, yes, they do stack additively.

Well said, Criminal.
The only part I disagree with is the legendaries.
Turning your enemy into fertilizer before they are dead is great. Killing them with flowers is as insulting as the butterflies Mesmers kill with. Unicorns is even better, especially since they let out that terrifying unicorn battle cry as you launch them at your foes.
^_^
I gotta agree with this… personally i -love- Kudzu and Dreamer (too bad i’m not a fan of short bow).
And it -TOTALLY- fits a norn, they boast all the time!! Your norn could be like “I’m such a man i’m killing my enemies by shooting flower Javelins from my bow!” (yes Kudzu shoots golden Javelins surrounded by flowers at people)

Exactly Durzlla. Between taking a SB and a LB in a tower/keep defense fight, I’ll take the LB every time because you have the range to make the hits hurt, and you’ve got the defensive utility of the entire bow at your disposal.
See an enemy on a Flame Ram? Knock them off with #4. See several people attacking the gates? Throw a #5 their way to make them back off (this work well even if you’re behind the gate aiming the AoE straight at it). Add a #3 to throw 10 stacks of vulnerability on an enemy while your arrow carts and allies are hitting them, and a #2 to help focus fire them, and you have the perfect defensive tool. There’s a reason why you see so many rangers use a LB when they’re not on arrow carts for defense.
1. to hit with #4 down from the wall, you have to stand directly above him, a bad place .
2. #5 will kill the ranger himself (retaliation).
3. 10 stack on ONE enemy? lol, there are 30-80 enemies.
4. pirce don’t work very well from walls, the arrow will hit the ground 0.1 feet behind the target. (if it hits anyway)
5. #2 will be dodged, reflected most of the time, but if you hit him, it’s good.
6. rangers only range ae is on the LB, this is the only reason they chose this weapon.
7. you can’t send your pet down with guard anymore.
8. the roots from entangle will be killed after 0.1 seconds (remember: 30-80 enemys hitting the door)1. That’s for keeps. For towers, you can stand to the side and hit them.
2. Depends on the tier you’re in, and where you’re at. T5 doesn’t have much problems with Retaliation usually.
3. Depends on the tier you’re in, and where you’re at. I stick with the home borderlands so the guys at Eternal don’t have to worry about it.
4. You don’t need to have pierce on to use the LB for defense (I don’t)
5. Which is why it’s one of those “I’ll use it for the hell of it” abilities.
6. Which is why we use it for defense.
7. You don’t need to. Traps help deal with it if you’re traited in them. If not, use siege.
8. Like I said for 2 and 3, DEPENDS ON THE TIER YOU’RE IN AND LOCATION.
Just slipping in here to say that I’m T2 and don’t have issues with Retal, roots dying super early, etc etc. So before you use the stupid “Herpadur try a high Tier! Hurdur!” Argument realize its not going to help, it’s more of a “where are you, and is the Zerg you’re fighting mindless or a premade?” Sort of thing.

Well technically a ranger has a con on their pet mechanic, if the pet gets killed a large % of your total damage/support/CC is gone, granted that’s all I can think of being a con and for the most part can be avoided by good play.

I use double bows in both PvE and WvW … Have anything to say ?? huh?
uh yeah bows are garbage for pve. the damage output is awful. aoe damage is pitiful and single target damage has v irtually no place in pve
lol man you are really, really bad at math if you think the SB damage is awful (bad compared to other classes maybe).
And then we add in the wonderful trait known as Piercing Arrows, mix in about 40% crit chance or more and a fire sigil and all of a sudden I am hitting everything in 1200 range in front of me and procing flame blasts consistantly.
No aoe indeed.
But I guess it’s so hilariously awful that we were all being deeply ironic in the thread flipping kitten after they nerfed the SB fire rate.
You do realize ANET has said that melee damage will ALWAYS be better than ranged damage due to the risk reward thing right? The more you try to defend the whole “Oh my bow is awesome for damage!” Argument the more you look like an idiot…
I never said that ranged is better for damage but the SB is hardly crap damage and fully capable of hitting more than one target and often more than the cleaves from the swords or bounces from the axe.
I’m not saying SB damage is crap or you can’t hit more targets, I’m saying that if you want damage and to totally wreck people you want a melee build because it does more damage.
Personally I -prefer- ranged on my ranger because we have so many ways to keep the enemy at bay while we Pew pew pew, granted we won’t deal NEARLY as much damage as we could at melee, so if you want to be “competitive” in PvE you’d wanna melee (like on all the profs it seems)

Guardian…better? Sorry, I laughed at that. Unless you’re a bunker Guardian and set up for it, you WILL die fast in WvW as a Guardian.
If you are setting a guardian up to be offensive then you are doing it wrong. The guardian elite heal is amazing and Hallowed Ground is so good in WvW it’s ridiculous. Never mind line of warding for controlling mob movement.
Guardian is the best party class in the game and that is what WvW is about, not wandering around, getting in duels with people over nothing.
Guardians can teleport in (no gap closing required) burst someone down (healing themselves as they do it) and teleport out to safety like a GW1 sin, my friend does it all the time, it’s ridiculous, he just runs around in rampagers with his GS and Sword/torch.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Longbow #4 can throw people on rams off it. Throw multiple traps where they were standing, wait for them to hit it, use Longbow #5. For extra damage use Entangle from behind the gate to throw vines on them.
And LB is amazing for tower/keep defense from on the walls. If you’re not using it, you’re not a smart defender. By the way, Ranger is my MAIN.
Longbows flaws are essentially gone when in the Tower/Keep defense because the only thing it really is lacking is defense/ keeping them at range, but neither of those things are an issue in keep fights.
