Sigh…. i refuse to accept this … i like my ranger !!!! They are not underpowered , everyone else is overpowered!!!!!

I dont think anyone is saying that. But you do have a point.

Warrior. Simplest class in the game. No skill
Theif. Broken class that is OP. No skill
Mesmer. Really well designed class (mechanics wise) and requires skill to be good.
Guardian. Almost on par with how simple it is to play and build. No skill
Havent even played an ele yet so cant comment.

Engineers. Have more to cry about then anyone.

Rangers is an advanced class to play. The pet mechanic requires pet management to be effective. No other class has to play 2 characters at the same time. Summons arent the same as they require no management and are on fixed CD with is usually shorter than 60 secs too.

Looking at the Ranger as a whole. It is difficult to plsy by design.

Ele: if you have ADHD it’s the easiest prof to play, especially coming from a ranger where you go from managing 2 positions to 1 messily position.

I recently rerolled my ele (RP reason and a friend wants me to play an ele with their necro) and it may be -the- easiest, yet still very entertaining (unlike -you- warrior!) that I’ve played in GW2…

Gotta say, ele totally stole our spotlight as the “jack of all trades, and master of them too!” Role we were originally said to fill… I have no idea where ranger goes now…

PS: I have 3 pets that have a better AI than my ranger pets and can fulfill roles easier than ranger pets…. Wtf ANET?

@JK I agree with everything you posted other than the ele thing, eles were ORIGINALLY supposed to have 4 very different ways of killing things, 1) AoE (fire) 2) single target burst + minor CC + good movement(air) 3) very control oriented sustain + minor support (water) 4) very defensive condi damage sustain + minor control (earth).

Their alpha was so much more different than it is now, it’s like night and day… They went from “pure damage” an then sed utilities for support/control to having a little of everything + utilities to help them specialize.

Winter Bow Animation?

Neither Wintersbark nor Wintersbite have special animations or projectiles. No non-legendary weapon has special animations of any kind, and just serve as skins.

Have you used either of these bows or are you just making kitten up?

The reason I ask this I because I know for a fact the bolder text is wrong. There is a ghosty looking now that shoots fiery arrows (idk the name of the bow the guy in LA wouldn’t link it just told me it came from the forge), I’m assume its the foe fire bow though.

Staff for Ranger - a melee option

in Ranger

Over the last two and a half decades, rangers have been embracing magic and improving their prowess in the arcane. Now, at this moment, the magical masters of the world have deemed this ranger worthy of the use of magical weaponry. Let us enjoy this glorious moment as he makes his first contact with such a powerful conduit of mystic energy. Once again we can experience that first moment, when magical power began to course through our veins, through the eyes of this incredibly lucky individual. He now has the staff in his hands… And the audience silences in anticipation…

Ranger: “…”

The magical power flowing into him, what possible thoughts could he be having? He appears to be adjusting himself to the feeling of contact with such an artifact.

Ranger: “I could clonk somebody on the head with this.”

This made me laugh. +1

Ranged magic however shouldn’t be a ranger’s forte. That isn’t what a ranger is, close range it works, like Entangle, Spirits, Lightning Reflexes’ lightning strike.

Plus the ranger’s got a bit of a theme going with putting a new spin on old weapons. While the bows are primarily the rangers weapons, so they work exactly as you’d expect, the axe, greatsword and even the sword are unique.

We’ve got four professions capable of using a staff already. All four use it as their ranged AoE weapon. The ranger already has this (Axe and Longbow to an extent). But their only control focused weapon is the Longbow. It would be great to get a control focused melee weapon.

Personally I would prefer the hammer. Return of the bunny thumper!

But bunny thumper would be melee spike damage + CC instead of AoE CC and support.

I personally want a staff and hammer like in GW1…

Actually, I would play an elementalist if I could always use those sweet wepons you have. I like the idea of a “battle mage” type character.

But you can!

Even without traits, you can rely on a 50% up-time for each conjured weapon on your bar. You could probably figure out a nice conjure build with +30 in Fire based on blasting your long fire fields with Lightning Hammer… and now I’m off to play with a skill editor! XD

I don’t know how conjure builds compare to the typical 0/20/0/30/30, but it sounds like a ton of fun.

Conjure builds take A LOT of getting used to, my friend made one where it was a GC using hammer, axe and sword, he would hit people for ~4k average with the hammer auto attack, don’t think he actually used his main weapons tbh…

I personally have used a DD build that used frost bow and axe to give me a ranged option and it worked quite nicely.

Underwater Combat needs a buff?

in Elementalist

Durzlla.6295

Ele is by far my favorite underwater skill set in game (and my current main is ranger), it just takes a lot of getting used to.

One thing I’ve noticed is that Fire essentially becomes supporty skills and water essentially becomes damage skills which is weird seeing as how on land it’s the opposite. Air keeps its Damage + CC nature, and is essentially the raw damage melee ranged one, where earth is condi damage melee range, and man does Murky Water make you hard to take out!

Btw, does anyone know if it’s true that blasting staff buffs underwater skills? My friend swears it does but I haven’t noticed any difference and I’m a staff ele…

Yes removing poison is okay, but given the amount of points I have to put into it to get it it’s just not worth it to me. Removing cripple on the other than, that would be worth it.

As it is, it’s fine, just not for the amount of points I have to spend to get it.

WTB.......

Durzlla.6295

I like the idea, but it’s too little, too late. Implementing this would require the entire ranger class to be rebuilt from the ground up. It would require more resources than I believe anet is willing to spare, and it would kitten off a lot of people who have come to like the ranger in its current form.

What I want is pretty simple. Better AI and pathing, Closer following distance, and the ability to trigger weapon sigils.

No it wouldn’t, just change the Ranger Pet Mechanic to be 1-4 “Summons” of your choosing (we’ll say 2).

F1: Summon Pet #1
F2: Summon pet# 2

The summon duration will be idk, like 10s? Or something? shrugs and it’ll summon your pet and replace the old F1-F4 bar with our current one giving us control over our pet during the duration of it being out (F4 would stow the pet prematurely).

The CD on each pet summon will be 20s (default) if the pet was alive when you stowed it/it despawned. If the pet dies then the CD will be 60s (like it is now).

If they change it to this then they should make it so that the ranger is ~ 125% the strength of the other profs while the pet is active and ~75% as strong as the other profs while their pet is gone.

The pet would have to POTENTIAL for 100% uptime (between the 2 pets), but we all know that’s not going to actually happen now don’t we?

The thing is I’m not that sure we need this, I have no problem that I can think of where I’d want either a trap or mud of evasion. I WOULD use evasive purity if it cured bleeding, THAT would be worth having, but I gave EP a long try for a while and it’s just not worth it, poison just doesn’t bother me that much, that often and blind really isn’t that big of a deal that I’d want to go all the way to grandmaster in the NM tree.

If it removed bleed though, I’d take it in a shot.

Whenever i use it and then go to -not- using it i notice a huge difference because poison guts your healing, so i’d get into the habbit of dodging and then quickly healing afterward so i wouldn’t have poison, i always feel naked without it now…

However, the blind thing is just worthless, i don’t think in any situation i’ve ever used Evasive Purity to remove blind.. now if it removed cripple or chill or bleed or weakness that’d be a REALLY nice trait.

Personally I’d prefer something where you end up throwing up dirt while dodging and give any enemies nearby blindness.

That fits the ranger class so well I’m surprised it doesn’t exist in game. It goes perfect with the dirty/dodgy fighting that a lot of the ranger weapons emphasize.

They could totally just roll that into Trappers Defense and make it so everytime you dodge roll dust flies up.

Or… even better, Evasive Purity, make our grandmaster not kittening worthless plz Anet!

I -really- like the idea behind your altered staff skills, however for vine pull i’d say rip the target to -you- instead of you going to them, but make it another attack IE: First hit immobs them, chain you throw out vines and pull them to you (they’re still immobed).

As for Woodpecker i think it’d be cool if you shot out orbs of magic as you stabbed that decrease in power the further they are from you (or become more spread out so anything not in melee wont get hit very hard by it) just for some more interesting mechanics… However i like the woodpecker move regardless lol.

Rangers not a magic user… Is this why I can summon entangling roots, make a large area of terrain turn into mud, create a pool of water at my feet, throw “traps” at people, summon spirits, strike people with lightning, and a good amount of other things?

I agree that if we get a staff it shouldn’t be ranged, but this is just -too- martial and -too- similar to our other weapons.

PS: ANET has actually said in several interviews that rangers have embraced magic a lot MORE over the 250 years than they originally did.

I’m disagreeing mainly on the viability of the bear for taking hits for you … especially in PvP.

If your pet is in melee range, he is having to chase the target, this makes it much harder to make sure he is positioned between you and enemy projectiles.

As it is largely infeasible to use the bear to intercept projectiles, his tankiness is extremely lackluster.

That is how I think about it.

You could always use a melee build and chase the enemy around with your bear, making the Devourers useless because you can’t really run around him in melee range because that pets AI is designed around -leaving melee-. Not to mention, you can use “Protect Me!” To force your bear to take hits for you where a devourers would snap in two with how low health he has.

Celestial build possible?

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I imagine Celestial would probably beat out any gear that gives +healing as its primary stat (Cleric’s / Apothecary) since +healing seems to scale the poorest of all the stats .

Eh, it scales really well on -our- heals (2 of them get 100%), and then it scales really well on rezzing downed players as well, so it depends on what you’re using it for.

i’m pretty sure rez speed isn’t effected by healing power. Or do you mean dropping healing spring on downed allies? Does that work?

No i thought it actually increased healing on the downed people, this should be easy enough to test in sPvP (at the rezzing training) i’ll do this to make sure.

The wiki says that healing power -doesn’t- benefit rezzing though, but again, the wiki isn’t always right, but i’ll assume it is until further testing.

Fractions of a second are only useful for chilled, crippled, confusion, immobilized, etc.. Skills that aren’t ticking per second.

So if my friend were using a 7s bleed and i cut its duration by 25% i’ve effectively removed 2 full ticks of his damage?

I don’t rely solely on my pet for my damage, but he’s a very good source of it.

If you’re using an axe, the weakness isn’t really needed as #3 puts the same amount (though not AOE).

Then take a Murrellow for the poison field for the bouncing poison from axe which will give you more condi damage, or the Brown Bear for the aoe condi removal. The beauty of different pet F2s lol.

It varies on my build, when i use a bear normally i’m relying on myself for damage and for him to take hits for me and hinder the enemies, that or i’m going with a REALLY bunkery build.

EDIT: lol i feel like we’re arguing over our preferences now, both are really good at tanking hits so it’s probably just more preference.

Celestial build possible?

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

Here, I used gw2buildcraft.com

Comparison of Knight’s gear with Knight’s trinkets and with Celestial trinkets

  • Power: +125 for Knight’s
  • Precision (crit chance): +5.95% for Knight’s
  • Crit Dmg: +29% for Celestial
  • Condition Dmg: +216 for Celestial
    • bleeding: +10/sec per stack
    • burning: +52/sec
    • poison: +22/sec
  • Toughness (Dmg Mitigation): +6.54% for Knight’s
  • Vitality (Hitpoints): +2,160 for Celestial
  • Healing Power: +216 for Celestial
  • Effective Power (Power + Crit Chance + Crit Dmg): +63.39 for Knight’s
  • Effective Health (Dmg Mitigation + Hitpoints): +783 for Celestial

Celestial loses out where Knight’s focuses on two traits (offense … power and precision) while winning on the area where Knight’s primary attribute is focused (defense … toughness).

Comparison of Soldier’s gear with Soldier’s trinkets and with Celestial trinkets

  • Power: +288 for Soldier’s
  • Precision (crit chance): +10.29% for Celestial
  • Crit Dmg: +29% for Celestial
  • Condition Dmg: +216 for Celestial
    • bleeding: +10/sec per stack
    • burning: +52/sec
    • poison: +22/sec
  • Toughness (Dmg Mitigation): +3.28% for Soldier’s
  • Vitality (Hitpoints): +1,250 for Soldier’s
  • Healing Power: +216 for Celestial
  • Effective Power (Power + Crit Chance + Crit Dmg): +147.77 for Soldier’s
  • Effective Health (Dmg Mitigation + Hitpoints): +3,281 for Soldier’s

Soldier’s seems to do much better than Celestial. High Power + a mix of vitality and toughness seems too solid for extra stats to win out on.

The only thing Celestial really gives (in my opinion) is to allow you to do essentially everything. You essentially just spray and pray with stats by having a mix of condi and raw damage for your DPS output and your survivability is pretty good because you got some toughness and vitality, and you also have more effective health due to your healing abilities being increased slightly.

Oh, definitely, but all the bear is good at is getting hit.

They are harder position to take hits for you because of them being melee, which makes that tankiness not so great.

Keep in mind they also make a good pet for a condi sponge and can provide some pretty detrimental conditions to the enemy (AoE 10s weakness is nothing to scoff at, especially with malicious training which makes it 15s).

But if you’re relying on your pet for your damage, a bear certainly isn’t the option you’d want to go with, but if you want to have them help you kill the enemy then you may want to consider them because they’re a lot meaner than i originally had thought!

And actually them being melee -is- good because they tend to position themselves between you and your enemy by default making enemies trying to land ranged attacks to just get kitten off that your bears big fat kitten is getting in the way due to their larger hit box.

PS: Idk for sure if their hitbox -is- bigger i’ve just noticed that he seems to intercept more attacks for me than my wolf does.

Devourers also have more toughness than bears, so they actually do a better job of surviving except against condition damage.

Bears have Endure Pain and regen not to mention they can have up to like 5k vitality which translates to like 50k health or so, making them the gods of soaking damage xD. Because face it… when you have that much health (assuming 10 health = 1 vit like it does for players) it doesn’t really matter what your armor is when you can regen as well as a bear can.

EDIT: Bears can get up to around 46k health, not 50k, but that’s till kittening high!

@Durz’s comment:

If you need a pet that is going to intercept hits for you, the Devourer is a better choice as it will remain at range so is much easier for you to position between you and projectiles. Since the bear is a melee pet, this is more difficult and not really feasible.

The bear however has enough health and survivability to allow for the use of “Protect Me!”, not to mention the bear is also capable of providing some nice support/control with their F2s (AoE weakness and Shake it Off! are my favorites =D).

Both are -very- good tanks in PvP, it just depends on whether or not you want to play ring around Clickity Clack, or if you want to throw beary bearington ontop of you to protect you from the bad people + have his added support/control from his varied roars.

It’s essentially just preference.

EDIT: I just realized how biased i seemed towards bears lol, Devourers however deal more damage than bears, have an easier time hitting the enemy, and can apply condis pretty easily.

There are three purposes for your pet in PvP:

  • Damage
  • Crowd Control
  • Support (boons, heals, etc.)

There are four purposes for your pet in PvE:

  • Damage
  • Crowd Control
  • Support (boons, heals, etc.)
  • Tanking

As long as you are picking a pet that isn’t focused on tanking, you should be able to use them about the same in both PvP and PvE.

Do please note, however, that using melee pets is more difficult in dungeons than ranged pets.

Issues with pet responsiveness will only make the pets closer to reliable in both PvP and PvE.

Removing bugs will do the same.

From my experience tanking pets (such as bears) tend to have a larger hit box than other pets making them very effective meat shields in PvP.

Fury swiftness and regen were 100% uptime on me and everyone nearby, Vigor was REALLY CLOSE to 100% uptime, and protection had some really good uptime as well, not 100% but certainly over 60%

I did use a warhorn btw.

I have the biggest problems against mesmers and thieves in WvW . I hate the stealth mechanic , but that is probably because i run a build that is silly and wont work vs these classes .

I hate stealth , it frustrates me to no end . Even after so many hours spent playing against it … i still frakkin hate it

I hated stealth until I figured out you can still hit people with stuff when they’re stealthed, then the hunt began >=D!

I half agree with you, Durz.

I have seen many extremely bad Rangers. They are bad at controlling their character, controlling their pet, or both. As the Ranger requires skill at controlling both, I think this increases the chance for people to fall into the category of “bad ranger” compared to “bad non-ranger” since those other classes don’t have the pet issue.

On the other hand, there are plenty of times I tell my pet to get his puppy back to me and away from that nasty AOE. He’ll start to run to me, get to the edge of the AOE, and then turn 90 degrees so that he remains in the AOE and dies. Needless to say, every time it happens it kitten es me off and it isn’t uncommon enough for me to ignore it.

It seems especially common in the grawl fractal.

Omg, I know it’s so stupid when they do that! The best is when it’s a straight B line back to you and they run to the middle of the AoE you’re trying to get them out of and they go “LOLZ I see a shortcutz!” And run out the wrong side of the AoE and make a square using the line they -should’ve- take…

Let’s try to get this back to something constructive, please.

How about we start looking at ways to get 100% up-time (or max up-time if 100% isn’t possible) for various boons on the Ranger.

Feel free to use trait points, traits, pets, gear, runes, etc..

I’ll start adding them to the OP so that people have an nice set of information available.

Perhaps, if we do a good enough job with this, we’ll see a minimum requirement for getting the max number of boons for various combinations of boons.

I’ll throw up my build after school today, it may not do damage but it was pretty tanky…

off-topic but anyone dare to duel with me in the mists? Always been curious as to how forum rangers actually perform outside of the forums.

Want to make a forum setting up Ranger Fight Club? Only rangers allowed xD, because i’d -love- to duel with people on the ranger forums, win or lose it’d still be fun =D!

That and it seems every ranger community event seems to just be fun and it’s a lot better to see some stuff in action than on paper and not all of us are blessed with free time for vids xD.

People are misunderstanding the situation. Allow me to explain…

If you are saying that compared to other classes, Rangers are not up to par in small fights, you are correct. We’re not. We’re below average in comparison.

However, in large group zerg fights? angers are fine. Yeah, I said it. We’re fine. Hell, I could even go full berserker longbow and be fine in a zerg. It’s a zerg. You could run naked and be fine in a zerg. Stop crying and go zerg. Zerger Zergiepants…

I am talking about a player versus a player. PvP. Which is what I spend my time doing in WvW. And in this scenario. 1 class vs 1 other class….Ranger is the only class I have never lost to on any of the toons I have played. If you find yourself uncaring about the situation I am describing, then go discuss something else.

Um…. Rangers EXCEL at 1v1s and become less useful in zergs…. For skirmishing rangers are one of the best profs, second to thieves (who are -supposed- to be “best” for 1v1s)

Being the best 1v1er in WvW is like being the best in the special Olympics, it’s not that big of an accomplishment when you look at some of the crazy kitten you can do by inflating your stats to an ungodly high.

Go to sPvP if you want “oh well I’ve won X 1v1s on Y prof and haven’t lost!” To even carry weight.

But….but…..

I prefer the feel of roaming in open world, not the same little boxes over and over again.

I like fighting people who have optimized their character, leveled up through 80 levels of practice, and are fighting at peak levels, not people who created a new character, are level 3, and running “BGs” over and over again because they have ADHD.

I have sPvPed before, rarely, if ever, did I get to experience a 1v1 before someone else (good or bad) came along to help. I have, however, had many good 1v1s while roaming out in open WvW. I am an RvR junkie from back in the days of DAoC. I am not a WoW battleground humper.

Also, I know what Rangers can do in a 1v1. I’ve done it myself. My point is, I have never lost to one. Across all of my characters, expecially is Rangers are indeed good in 1v1s, why is it that I have lost to every class, even if only once, but never lost to a ranger? That’s all I’m trying to figure out.

Because a lot of rangers tend to be bad players who don’t manage their pets at all and then come to the forums to complain about how we’re the worst prof in the game?

Just from my general play with other ranges (sPvP, tPvP, WvW, PvE) i have encountered A LOT of rangers that make me want to curl up in a ball and cry because of how stupid/bad they are… Like, i’ve seen rangers with 30BM -somehow- manage to kill their bears unintentionally in AC, TA, and CM on a multitude of occasions, now this isn’t the whole “Oh well beary bearington was tanking all the adds so of course he’s going to die!” no it’s more like “Oh well i don’t know why i’d need to pull my pet back EVER despite the fact no one else is in melee range with 100% up time…”

I will agree that in tPvP (sPvP is essentially just zerg warfare) you wont have 1v1s that last as long as in WvW, but you -will- have quite a few short ones that end in either someone quickly bursting the other guy down, or one of the 2 people fleeing the capture point the fight should’ve been on.

However, i’ve seen a lot more bad players in WvW than good, and it’s probably because in WvW a lot of players are just used to using the strength of the mindless zerg to protect them and thus don’t learn how to actually fight. Granted there ARE some exceptions like you who tends to be the loan ranger (oh puns) and just roams around the area on your own.

In short, Most rangers tend to be bad players (not saying anyone on the forums is or that -all- rangers are, just most that I HAVE PERSONALLY ENCOUNTERED ANkittenHUS FORMING MY OPINION ON are absolutely awful), and then in my experience most WvW players tend to be AWFUL in 1v1s due to their whole zerg mentality. That being said a lot of WvW players tend to be REALLY GOOD when you put them in team fights, but that’s a different story.

PS: As someone who has ADHD WvW is -much- more exciting than sPvP, sPvP is the same old kitten every day, WvW i can jump in and out of the zerg, cap stuff, skirmish, do events, jumping puzzles etc.

pet suggestion hyperbole...

in Ranger

Durzlla.6295

If they were to make the changes you suggest, especially the damage immunity part, they would have to make one more for balance.

I agree that it should be one of two ways..

Rangers are on par with other players on their own and have the pet be extra while keeping the lack of survivability.

Or

Keep the pet as a requirement to be on par but make them tough as nails to take out.

I think the issue that they want to avoid with pets with too much survivability is to avoid rangers being able to solo content that wasn’t meant to be soloed.

If they made the pet damage immune but subject to certain effects, then two things will need to happen.

1. In PvE, mobs would ignore the pet and the ranger would have constant aggro.

2. The pet can not travel any farther from the ranger than the ranger can attack. So if the ranger is using a melee weapon, the pet will not run off to attack the enemy but will instead stay by the ranger. If the ranger uses a long bow and starts hitting a target at 1500, then the pet will go out to 1500.

I believe, that with the current level of survivability, that we should be doing 75% of what other classes do without our pet and 125% with our pet.

Omg, this, i’ve been preaching for this FOREVER, no other prof in the game becomes “on par” with the others for using their mechanic, they tend to excel over the others in a certain area when using it.

@Durzlla

I don’t know how long you’ve been gaming, but if it’s been since at least EQ1, do you remember the EQ1 Bard, and how powerful a good Bard was because of weaving?

The support Warrior is pretty much the EQ1 Bard, and if played well can attain some powerful combinations.

Fury + Swiftness + Regen = Banner of Discipline, which also gives it a charge ability on a short cool down.
Fury + 3 Might = For Great Justice

It’s actually really simple to get the four buffs, permanently.

I haven’t played EQ at all, but i’ve played Rift, so i’m going to assume that it’s like that Bard too?

I didn’t play the Rift Bard, but the Cleric everyone complained about, saying my builds were overpowered, and quit because I kept getting nerfed.

I wish I remembered my log in information, I’d log into Rift, and have a look.

I played Rift a good deal too, i remember playing with a Sentinel + Warden (was that the water dot healer?) and had some great success with it. Also played Archon (mage) a bit too. But i quit during River of Souls due to financial reasons.

I feel this is getting off topic though lol.

If you’re asking me for real, either check warrior for your own and use wiki for once.
Only this gives me to thinking that your only proffession is ranger and you don’t know much about any other.
Just by observing X proffession you should guess their strong and weak sides. Their boons (tell me at least you noticed tha eles and guardians run with 5+ boons while ranger doesn’t have any of those options) and role in group.

Well… we -have- that option… but my god do we kitten ourselves going for it (i know i tried). And one of the main weaknesses of Warrior -is- boons (apparently only being against them) and conditions so i figured it went for applying them too. I do play other profs, just not the ones most rangers rerolled too lol.

And we got a fight, yay >.<

Control is part of Support for you and your team. You support them by distracting enemies. Not only cure and heal counts. 2seconds lack of actions from enemies is surely better than anything moa provides.
As well you act like you could use your Moa in way no one else could.
‘’Hey little bud, do you see that allie who is dying? Ye, this one. Go and heal him right now, in this second!’’
As ranged ranger you will stay out of attacks. So will probably your pet. While most people will just dive in. Therefore your pet won’t be able to heal them. If he rush, he will die from lotto-attacks (and we know it). If he somehow survives and will use his ability to heal 3.2k health within radius of 240, most likely he won’t heal anyone beside himself, due to fact that even melee fights aren’t happening all within 400 radius or so.
And even, if you stay ranged (somehow) and let your pet go and hit somebody. It shows how bad pet choice you have.

What scenario is this? PvE? WvW? sPvP?

As for getting him to heal a specific person, yeah that never happens, and as i said earlier i’m pretty sure the radius isn’t 240, because i’ve seen him heal some people a little further, i’ll test this over the weekend for confirmation, it wouldn’t be the first time our tooltips were wrong -_-’.

I’m not saying that the wolf ISN’T good for helping take an enemy out, Control is REALLY useful, it’s just, not Support. They’re different, but in the end they both help the group succeed.

Sorry, i’m just really picky about messing up the terms support and control -_-‘, it’s nothing against -you- though!

@JK, Oh, i’ve glanced through that build a while ago while looking something up for a friend, that’s a pretty cool one and i’ve debated on making something similar…. Then i realize i don’t like the playstyle of warrior…

Classes I know that can access most Boons fairly easy

Guardian/Warrior/Engineer/Elementalist/Thieves

I’m not sure about Mesmer, I know they can get lots of Might stacks but not sure about others

Necro’s i’m not sure about either.

How do Warriors and Thieves access boons more easily/have access to more boons better than ranger?

I don’t really go after boons much outside my Thief, beyond the Might stacking with dodge rolls, and stealth. A Thief can get Might easier than the Ranger, though the Ranger actually needs it more than the Thief.

The Warrior is night, and day in regards to boons compared to the Ranger. To get some of the nonsense you say you do on the Ranger, to get your support, you lose a lot of damage, and some survivability.

On my support Warrior I provide a permanent Fury, Regen, Swiftness, and 3 Stacks of Might on a full group, while also providing them +170 Precision, and 15% Critical Hit damage permanently. It’s so permanent I stack the full 2 minutes on myself, and the full 1 minute on the members of my group. I bet you didn’t know there is a 1 min max duration of boons you could provide on others, did you? It’s because you really are not providing a perma anything with the Ranger.

My Warrior can do this, and only lose about 12%-15% of the damage a Glass Canon Thief gets, all the while using Hammer/Rifle.

You -can- provide perma boons on the ranger, but as you just said (and i’ve said many times) you give up A LOT of damage to do it, which is why i only do it in PvE where i only play for fun. Again, as said many times.

Now that warriors have their banners buffed (i was thinking boons not banners as well) there’s not even a contest in the support provided.

Btw, what is the -source- of warriors boons? Is it just from their banners and FGJ? Or no?

How do Warriors and Thieves access boons more easily/have access to more boons better than ranger?

Mesmers are -the- boon manipulators, so they rein supreme there, granted the Meta build for mesmers does not take advantage of this, however i know if they’re using a staff they can have access to every boon in the game minus stability.

As for necros i have no idea, i normally only see them throwing conditions everywhere, i always assumed they weren’t great at the boon thing because they are so good at conditions.

And again incompetence.
Warrior can have 5stacks of might, fury and swiftness nearly all the time (if not all the time?). As well stability and many boons from banners (eg. regen).
About thief:
Stealing (mesmer) gives you 10second of every boon.
x-x-x-x-10 gives you and nearby allies might, swiftness, fury for another 10seconds.
Stealing ranger gives you healing seed (condition cure, regen, combo field which you can blast several times with shortbow for 1.5k hp).
Going stealth gives you 2 stacks of might, so does dodging.
Additional traits for boons (eg. when your enemy drops health to 50%, you get fury for 10second).

As you can see, there’s lots of might and fury there. But fury isn’t so beneficial if you have 100% critical chance while in stealth.

Well we have a more varied boon selection than them (or at least more reliable when compared to thiefs selection vs mesmer), granted i don’t think we can keep it up as long.

And sorry for not being a master of every prof and knowing all this knowledge on hand, but you know, playing only one prof with 3 on the side (mesmer, engi, ele) tends to leave you lacking in how other profs do stuff outside the meta build(s).

PS: Isn’t the warriors whole boon generation from their elite signet?

Every decent ranger on forum can agree that whatever Durzlla says is either lie or fairy tail. Simply, we can’t take him serious in basicly everything he says.

You said your Moa is almost as tanky as Bear. As well he said opposite (his moa is nowhere close to bear’s tankyness?).
The only support that exists in game are boons. (not guardian which could block attack, cure condition, heal you – only boons.) So ofc Fear doesn’t support me at all. Seems these ~200damage with 40sec cooldown I use as attack source. Distracting enemies doesn’t support me at all.
Durzlla is godly bot ranger who does everything greater than great. Can kill anyone, outtank anyone and provide the best support with one of the least supporty classes.
Fearing enemies, immobilizing them, knocking them down doesn’t help your allies at all. 3k heal with 200radius on time not known to humanity does.

And it’s only from 3 posts. Do you realize how stupid it makes you look like?

So healing, curing conditions and taking hits for you no longer counts as support? News to me.

And where did i say i’m some ungodly ranger? I just said that i wasn’t able to tank the camps as well as JK or do you not read my posts? And the KD is as unknown to humanity as the heal is, and oh look, they’re on the same CD!! Imagine that!!

Please, tell me where i mention how i can kill anyone provide the best support with a ranger (which i say time and time again has pretty mediocre support options), because you’re just making yourself look like an kitten

Scroll your posts, if you don’t remember things you’ve said, hombre. I’m not going to do it for you.
I’d as well recommand you go and visit your doctor. Those are signs of dementia.

With other sources of support I was paraphrazing you, since you treat support as boons. Unless you don’t know the definition of this word.

While Moa is good on PvE (well, free fury 50% of the time) it isn’t great for WvW. Surely there are better pet choices and SOME of us might not see it yet.

Um, i’ve never mentioned being a godly ranger, countless times i’ve mentioned people killing me, and just saying “I play a support ranger in PvE” (which i do) doesn’t translate into “ZOMG! I play a support ranger and do soooooo much better job than a guardian!”

I think you should probably work on your reading abilities.

And since when are moas a bad choice for WvW? You can use them to heal and buff your backline since they’ll use those BEFORE running to the front line…

And since you don’t seem to know,

Support: Things done to buff/heal your allies and keep them in the fight longer.

Control: Things done to inhibit your enemies actions and prevent them from doing what they want.

You should probably learn those because you’re confusing them.
