It would be nice but they will need a system to determine which kind of romance NPC you’re looking for. First part is simple since it just need to determine your romance NPC origins such as humans being Ascalonian, Canthan, Elonian, or Krytan and Charr being Blood Legion, Iron Legion, or Ash Legion. Same goes for the other race romance options.
Skritt are not as bad as you think. They’re just doing what they have to do to survive since now in the surface they need to find things to trade so they can afford food. Also this is the first time people have ever seen Destroyer Eggs lore wise.
I think the choice was easy. All that they should’ve done was to follow their own manifesto. Simple as that. So whoever gets angry because of it, it’s not their problem.
That is the sad part. No matter what they did people would of made it their problem.
It depends on the person personal tastes and interests.
In short no matter what they do or who they satisfy people will always complain about every update that is released because the game is not their perfect game they spent every day and night dreaming about.
The way I see it Anet is stuck pick which side to satisfy. This first one that is happening now is the new Endgame dungeon and Ascendent gear.
Before release….
1) A lot of people complain of lack of real endgame dungeon and a long term goal other than legendary weapon
2) The other lot complain the game doesn’t need some long term goal and being short is fine even though you’ll finish the game sooner than you wanted and get bored but what they need is to release the other part of the map we can’t explore yet.
Anet had to choose between one of these 2 angry mob of fourm community and they chosen #1. Now #1 is satisfied but now #2 is raging like a angry bull who can only see red.
A you can see Anet will be constantly stuck between 2 angry community groups and no matter what they do they will start a rage fest no matter how hard they try.
You don’t really need Ascendant gear to have fun in PvE and and PvP. Acendant Gear is made more for the Fractals of the Mists.
In Fractals of the Mists you will be given a condition for not having any infusion gear called “Agony” where if you don’t have infusion then you’ll lose HP but if you have enough Infusion you’ll lose less HP.
Serious I remember the countless post of demanding a real endgame dungeon and some kind of gear worth grinding for before this who thing was announced it basically almost started a fourm war but now they given what what those hundreds of countless post demanded it back to ah we never wanted this.
Seriously when will you people learn there is no such thing as a Perfect MMO and a MMO will never satisfy everyone and every desire you want down to the nick and cranny of your abyss of darkness.
And then Trahearne shows up, saves you and saves the day and ruins the plot (for you).
Kidding aside, it would be nice to have personal stories focusing on the NPCs (other than Trahearne) who you met along the way and the unique bonds they share with your player character.
“Comes to save you”?
Did you miss the plot of the storyline where as Leader of the Pact Trahearne can not leave Fort Trinity because he must remain there to organize and deploy all Pact troops from all over the world as the GW2 world gets bigger and more people join the Pact with each expansion, new map areas, and etc.
When you’re the leader of a army the size of a Continent you can’t leave the Fing Pentagon… I mean Fort Trinity and expect everything to be ok because you didn’t fill in a few paper works.
and ya this kind of personal story would be a good way to make all the personal story you had feel linked despite how the current personal story feels not-linked.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
1) Inspector Ellen – Lion Arch near the former Lion Statue.
2) Beach left side near shipwreck- grab a pole from the tool box and open the barrel that is standing up.
3) return to Inspector Ellen
4) Head to Blinng near Fractal of the Mist near Fort Marrier
5) Meet Noll at Hanto trading Post in Caledon Forest (Sylvari starting area)
6)Meet Canach in a Sylvari house Northwest part of Garrenhoff in Kessex Hill
7) (Progress hindered by bug with Canach event)
I really like this idea. That would pack a lot of emotional punch.
I kept expecting to have to fight my mentor in Risen form, but it never happened. The Sovereign Eye claimed that Forgal was waiting for me with Zhaitan, but it just never went anywhere.
Some closure there would be nice, and it could add meaningfully to the story.
You know what will make this more emotional? When kill each of your former allies you would here a small voice from the real them for a slight moment after you killed the illusion version.
Quinn(killed) – “Don’t give in…..”
Mother(killed)- “I’m sorry you had to go through this….”
Father(killed) – “I’m proud of you son/daughter….”
Forgal(killed) – “That showing the Dragon who is boss kid…..”
Sieran (killed) – “I know you wouldn’t give it….”
Tybalt(killed) – “Hahaha, you were always a good apple buddy….”
but there is also the music of the personal story. a emotional point of the personal story major point has always been the music to represent the condition of the personal story.
hah well that’d be fine by me, as i’m presuming ‘Paperwork mountain’ is a Level 81 quest anyway
I rather have the bland jobs be left to the bland characters.
What if in a future Personal Story a Elder Dragon Tried to corrupt our character by place him or her into a illusion where we have to fight all the allies that died and failed to save in the past Personal Story missions as they try to convince you to embrace the corruption?
How will you react to this kind of Personal Story mission?
For example:
Street Rat background: If you did not save Quinn in your personal Story he will appear to attack you and tell you to embrace the corruption.
-Quinn: “Accept what he offers. Don’t you want to prevent what happened to me from happening to others?”
Never Meet Parents Background: This will be the first time you meet your real parents but they’re not your real parents.
-Mother: " Son/Daughter it is us. Don’t you want to be with us again?"
-Father: " Yes we can be together like how you always wanted. Just accept what he offers."
-Mother: “Come to us. We are waiting for you on this side.”
And etc. from you background to the Orr part of the Storyline.
The final Boss for this personal mission will (in a heart breaking tiwst that would make everyone angry at a Elder Dragon) You fight your former Order Mentor as the Final boss and for each 1/3 percent of the HP he will stop fighting and ask you a question on why do you continue to resist embracing the Corruption?
Vigil Path
Forgal (100% HP) – “Why do you continue to fight us? Will you kill me like how you killed the others kid?”
Option 1 – You are not Forgal!
Option 2 – Forgal… no you can’t be Forgal!
Option 3- I will not fall for your tricks!
Forgal (65% HP) – " I thought I taught you better. How long do you want to keep up this pointless fight kid. Join the Dragon and you can bring us all back!"
Option 1 – Stop trying to pretend to be Forgal!
Option 2 – I will keep fighting because some must fight so all can be free!
Option 3- You can not fool me no matter what you say!
Forgal ( 30% HP) – “You really are stubborn kid. Not matter how much you deny it I am Forgal, son of Kern. My father was the last Dolyak Shaman! I am a Warmaster of the Vigil! You will never make me kneel! !”
Option 1 – YOU ARE NOT THE OLD MAN!
Option 2 – I am “player name”, <First Race background>, My Mentor was Warmaster Forgal! I am Warmaster of the Vigil! You will not trample over Forgal’s memories anymore!
Option 3 – Your illusion ends here!
Priory Path
Sieran(100%) -" Why do you fight us? We only want you to have the time of your life?"
Option 1- You’re not Sieran!
Option 2- You can’t be…… no Sieran will never be on the Dragon’s side?
Option 3- You cannot trick me with this illusion!
Sieran(65%)- “That was fun. You know what will be more fun? Embracing the power of the Elder Dragon!”
Option 1 – Stop trying to be Sieran!
Option 2 – Sieran always loved having fun and adventure but she would never embrace the Elder Dragon!"
Option 3 – You can keep trying but I will not fall for this!
Sieran (30%)- " Is this how it will end? Will you be the one who kill me this time? What about all the fun time we had together?"
Option 1- YOU ARE NOT SIERAN!
Option 2- I will never forget about Sieran but I will not allow you to use the memory of Sieran anymore!
Option 3- Your illusion ends here!
Order of Whisper Path
Tybalt(100%)- " Are you going to fight me as well buddy? Why don’t you just embrace what he offers?"
Option 1- You’re not Tybalt!
Option 2 – Tybalt….. no you can not be Tybalt!
Option 3 – You illusion will not work!
Tybalt(65%) – “Aren’t buddies <player name>. Why do you continue to resist. If you accept it we can have the apple cider you promised me.”
Option 1- Stop trying to act like Tybalt!
Option 2 – I did promise a apple cider to Tybalt but not to you!"
Option 3 – I will not fall for this trick!
Tybalt (30%) – “So you will actually kill me? I thought we were buddies.”
Option 1 – STOP TRYING TO BE TYBALT!
Option 2 – Tybalt is my buddy but you are just a rotten apple!
Option 3 – This illusion ends here!

During the battle of Fort Trinity, its clear that the gates are swung wide open, and you couldnt keep a stray cow out if you tried. Then he shuts them, effectively abandoning his men to certain death (despite the Risen being able to…not care about walls at all, they burrow through sheer titanium if it means more fighting for YOU to have to do). He puts more thought into his battle speeches than he does his battles. Hes a scholar alright.
Seriously am I the only one who noticed everytime a Gate had to be closed in Fort Trinity mission that a NPC would tell both you and Trahearne to leave them behind so they can buy us time to seal the gate.
Here something you may never here?
“Are you Pro?”
“Because I am mesmer by you.”
I recall some NPC or bit of lore somewhere saying something along the lines of “You think the dragons have attacked? Ha, no, not even close. They haven’t attacked yet, they just woke up, when they attack, you’ll know it.”
Maybe that’s why Zaitan is so anticlimactic, we jumped him before he had his morning coffee, and he’s going to come back pissed.
That basically it for Zhaitan’s battle.
We are basically attacking a starving weakened morning bird.
-We cut off his food supply of magic
-We cut off his corruption to Orr
-All the Elder Dragons still haven’t even consumed enough magic to be at 50% of their true power.
Zhaitan is weak yes still his battle could have been more dynamic but that the point of fighting the first Elder Dragon in Chapter 1 of the Storyline. The first one will always be the weakest but once the weakest is gone guess what happens once the other Elder Dragons discover this.
How they end up is up to you. Anet left our GW1 hero as a mystery because they wanted us to think up their remaining lore.
Personally I’d have preferred if Destiney’s Edge had played a larger role in the personal story and not just in the dungeons. I could have easily seen them leading the pact rather than some random dry character such as Trahearne :/ I felt a complete lack of connection to him and still wonder to this day how he managed to get in charge instead of someone else.
I also hoping that Destiny Edge played a bigger role in the Personal story because of hoe GW2 places them as the True Main Characters of GW2. However, that was not the case.
Still all this demand for our character to become the leader of the Pact because people don’t like Trehearne from most of the player base seems to make me think if they understand what kind of job Trahearne will be getting after the Events of Orr. It is not going to be the job of going on the field and fighting the Elder dragons with the troops that is for certain. That kind of job is for commanders and lower ranks like our character.
I don’t mind being the sidekick and losing the glory to Trahearne too much, but what I would really love is if the devs re-wrote the ending and basically ‘offed’ Trahearne in such a manner that your character is forced to take over.
By ‘offed’ I mean, killed or possibly turns out to be a traitor or something. Anything. Just a twist that leaves the character/underdog coming up trumps in the last chapter, forced to make tough decisions etc etc
Bit more meat on the bone for the storyline.
You really want that job Trahearne will be getting from now on which is to remain in Fort Trinity for the rest of the Future Personal Story filling paper work of where Pact Units will go and what supplies goes were and where the bases should be deployed for the entire personal Story and never leaving Fort Trinity ever until all Elder Dragons are dead?
If I wanted that kind of job then I would be playing Command and Conquer.
I like how GW2 never place you as the Godly hero of Salvation like most generic RPG does.
Each part of the Personal Story focuses on a different Hero in the game..
(Personal Issue Story) – 1 member of Destiny Edge (depending on your race)
(Order Story)- Your Mentor (depending on your Order)
(Orr Story)- Trahearne
The Personal Story seems to focus on bring a new Hero into the story for each story Part of a Story Act while our character just experience the events of that part of the story through his or her own eyes we know as Personal Story.
We can expect the future personal Story to be like this once Anet begins expanding the Personal Story with New NPCs in each Act.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Trahearne doesn’t come off as a Battle-hardened killer but more of a distressed seeker who is at his limit after spending years of trying to achieve a goal where no one believed he can do.
Becoming bland in personality doesn’t require combat but most of the time end up being caused by reaching the point where you are about to believe yourself that your goal is hopeless.
Meh his kill lines and battle lines goes off on my like Trahearne has spent too long killing things and he is just use to it. Compared to everyone else in GW2 Trahearne has been fighting and studying Zhaitan’s army since the day he was born so while everyone else can get emotional over the horrors of the Elder Dragon Trahearne has seen these Horrors his entire life.
Still a lot of Trahearne’s back ground has not been answered yet such as his past history with all 3 Orders since everyone of the respects Trahearne because of his past history with all 3 Orders before GW2. Heck his personality may have even been different before GW2 storyline began before he saw all the horrors of Zhaitan’s minions can cause.
I won’t be surprised if some where down his past before GW2 he lost a lot of people he cared about before GW2 story which would explain his bland personality because he has seen a lot a long time seeing these horrible things..
Well The dispatch part will be in future personal story now. Trahearne does have the military job that isn’t about going on the field into combat. He has to remain in Fort Trinity to command the entire Pact army now the pact is officially set now.
Think Fort Trinity as the Pentagon of GW2.
It mostly due to Zhaitan’s corruption only affects being of flesh and blood. Sylvari are humanoid planets so they can’t be affected unless the corruption is through the mind or plants.
Mordremoth might be the dragon over in Maguuna Wastes.
Well Mordremoth is the 6th dragon because of the element the attack is. The attacks are named after each Elder Dragon after all.
It is in “the Deep” which was a endgame dungeon in GW1.
As you play “the Deep” there are hints that Kanaxai may actually be a Champion of “Bubbles” because of how he is able to corrupt the Luxons who went into the Deep and how he commands and creates these Leviathans, Oni, and other types of tentacle like abominations.
So then it could well be that we are going to be dealing with minions of bubbles! (I’m deferentially going to need to go through the deep again!)
Ya that basically it. There are also NPCs like Dauv Merishahl in GW1 who says that the Oni maybe the Advance stage of the Corruption for Outcast (Luxons who have been corrupted) which hints more into Kanaxai being one of Bubble’s champions
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
For now nothing much until Lost Shore is released for the “100 floor” type dungeon.
I call it the 100 Floor dungeon because RPGs tend to have these kind of dungeons that feel bottomless because it is 100 floor as a endgame content. The real amount of floors in this dungeon is unknown.
No I don’t understand and I don’t want to, if they can’t get over rivalry to deal with a world ending threat and be professional then it’s time to find more qualified people to do the job.
The rivalry at best is just a weak excuse to justify Trahearne’s existence.
You do know you’re expressing the same hatred the 3 Orders have with each other with hatred towards Trahearne right now.
They would throw away saving the world if they have a reason to bring about that Rivalry and hatred they developed for years just like how most players would prefer having a bad ending where the world ends because of the Elder Dragon if Trahearne never became the Pact Leader and Our character became the Pact Leader which caused the Pact to never become formed due to one Order seeing themselves above the other 2 Orders.
In the end no matter the events set people will always miss the event. It more than just time of day where they live but mostly due to life stuff.
No matter what time Anet place the event nor how long they make it last there will be a large chunk of the player base who will miss the event because they live in different timezones and have different daily schedules.
It isn’t like 50% has the same time zone and 50% has the other timezone. The difference in timezones and scheduales in daily life is much small percent based that it comes to the point a large chunk of the players will not be able to play the event no matter how long the event is.
The has never been a MMO in existence that has made a limited time event be accessible for everyone nor a large part of the community.

So the Lost Shores Trailer is up and we finally see one of the Deep Sea Dragon’s Minions at last.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/november-2012/
If the Pact falls apart simply because of something so trivial as that, then they deserve to be crushed by the dragons.
I not surprised you don’t understand how deep years of strong rivalry and hatred can affect things. Personal emotions have always been the major thing that destroys many things and personal emotion is something a person cannot just brush off like it was never there.
They may have formed the Pact to stop the dragons but that Personal Emotion they have between other members of the other Order still remains and any slite push towards one ego can cause one order to see themselves better above the other as stated in the Personal Story.
For now PS is only feeling Incomplete for me. That mostly because Act 1 (Zhaitan Act) only set the stage for the future Personal Story so there are many open question we will not have answered until Anet starts expanding the Story.
I would much rather have Sieran or Tybalt than boring old Trahearne. Boringness aside, why do we have a necromancer in the newest race in the game suddenly an expert on all things zomb… err i mean “Risen”? Seems like a conflict of interest having a necromancer killing undead, not that he does much killing anyways since he is worthless in battle and usually dies near the beginning. I think a game of Mad King Says is in order. "Your Mad King Says… say the word “Claw” correctly. Oh sorry Trahearne, time to die!" smh
Necromencers are not bound to be masters of the dead but can be a profession to learn about Undead and medical knowledge. Trahearne has spent years before GW2 story began studying Orr directly and is also only 1 of the 2 people who has ever saw Zhaitan in person and lived.
Think Necromency as Biology Scientist or Doctors where by studying the dead he has a better understanding how the body of things work. It is also common practice for people to use what they know in combat and since Trahearne has spent his entire life studying Orr and the Undead his Necromency knowledge he obtained from his studies provide him with the combat knowledge he needs to fight.
I recall ANET stating in an interview somewhere that the true motivations of the dragons are a spoiler for later acts, and that they’re more than a “force of nature”.
^ Ya this…
Act 1 so far is only Chapter 1 of the story so the Personal Story is meant to feel incomplete because Act 1 set the stage of GW2 storyline.
-The founding of the Pact which will be playing the large role GW2 story as the Anti-Elder Dragon force all characters from all over the world will end up joining.
-Who is the Leader of the Pact and how did he become the leader.
-The re-unity of Destiny Edge who are the True Main Characters of GW2.
-What lead to the founding of the Pact seen through our character point of view in the story (AKA Personal Story)
Considering his Wyld Hunt was to cleanse Orr and he already supposedly has done this, I have a feeling he’ll be taking a backseat in the Pact’s operations (or retire) and you will become the new leader in the upcoming expansions.
Trahearne will remain the Leader of the Pact but more of a side character now since his part of the story is over. He will remain in Fort Trinity to manage and deploy Pact units(along with a bunch of other paper work) from now on so he can’t go out in the open field like our character.
They already stated the Pact Leader must not be a member of the 3 Orders nor former member and since our character is a member of the 3 Orders being leader of the Pack ourselves will risk very high tension among the 3 Orders and cause the Pact to fall apart almost instantly.
Oh boy i love these kind of threads….
I just can’t help but have these themes playing when I’m on a killing spree in GW2.
The “Angry Bird” easter egg in Ebonhawk. Harm the chicken in the farm enough and they will start becoming “Angry birds”
Weapon: Crossbow
Type: Two-handed weapon
Class Skills:
(Guardian)
skill 1: Penetrating Shot – Arrows that Pierce enemies
skill 2: Body Shot – Vulnerability and Weakness on enemy
skill 3: Pin Down – Cripple enemies for 6 seconds and Immobilize 2 seconds
skill 4: Crossfire – causes Vulnerability but if enemy is close then it will also cause Confusion to the enemy.
skill 5: Prepared Shot – 2 seconds to activate. Cause 10 stacks of Vulnerability and Stun enemies for 3 seconds.
(Note: these are not absolute and could be changed)
(Still more to work on. I’ll work on Warrior, Ranger, and Elementalist when I find the time)
I’m not really following all news about Lost Shores… Where does this “Endgame Dungeon” story come from?
It will be a new type of Dungeon released in the Lost Shore map.
This is what you would consider a Challenge dungeon where the deeper you go the harder it becomes but the higher the quality of the rewards the farther you go. The developers did say there is a possible end to this dungeon but reaching it isn’t something you can do in a day.
Basically like those 100 floor dungeons you see at the end of RPGs after you complete the game.
So how deep do you think this Endgame Dungeon that will be released with Lost Shore will be?
I’m guessing it one of those 50-100 floor dungeons.
Currently now not much is used for SP unless you want those unique looking weapons that can only be crafted from Mystic Forge. As GW2 expands you can expect more use for SP and increase in Utility and Elite Skills.
Can anyone say “60 SP Elite Skills”?
Because unlike other maps. Orr is a Warzone type map where progress in there can only be obtained by working on the events there to help the Pact claim more bases of operations. If no one is there to help with the events to claim more bases for the Pact to use then it will be a nightmare.
What made trahearne worse was after he got his sword he actually got worse in combat than beforehand and he was cack then! why give a necro a sword anyway it’s not like he’d be able to use it properly without fatigue, dont get me started on Logan though that guy was cool in the book yet a useless waste of time in the storyline missions he took part in with me(it’s like in the 5 years since the noval ended he’s forgotten how be be a guardian).
Twohanded sword is a possible weapon for Necro in the Future. A lot of NPCs now uses weapon combos our character can’t uses yet because Anet has not gotten to them before release. Such as how Warrior type Vigil NPCs can use Pistols/warhorn weapon combo.
We may even see Guardians obtaining Rifle in the future and Engineers obtaining Two-handed Hammers.
For now nothing much but most likely determine a future Personal Story path.
Most likely a way to explain why the Gods remain silent.
A lot of Personal Story remains unfinished and unanswered because Anet plans to explain these as future Personal Story parts.
A lot of these complaints I see, other than Trahearne, is how Act 1 doesn’t finish the story and leaves questions.
Well that is the point of Act 1. This part of the Personal Story is to set the stage for Future Personal Stories. Act 1 was never meant to be a complete book but only the first chapter of the Book.
They could just make those weapons obtainable by having them being able to be crafted in Mystic Forge rather than having them random dropped.
Unique weapons, for example, can only be crafted through place 4 certain materials into Mystic Forge rather than randomly obtaining them. Yes gathering the mats cost a lot but it not over 100 gold to craft one.
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Traehern really isn’t that big of a scene stealer. He’s a compatriot, for sure, and plays an important role, but isn’t by even a small shot the main contributor (you) for the fall of Zhaitan. Also, very clearly, if you are complaining about Traehern, you didn’t play Nightfall with that infuriating, credit-stealing, scene-hogging, dead-weight, good-for-nothing Kormir, one of my most disliked characters ever. That was back before Arenanet realized that you should be the hero of your own story, not dead-weight baggage who does nothing, then steals the credit for all your hard work and ascends to godhood.
Ya I guess the reason why I don’t have much of a issue with Trahearne is that compared to Kormir, he actually build up his entire life for this very moment of cleansing Orr while Kormir never had this kind of story.
Trahearne:
Ever since the day he was born everyone kept telling him his Wyld Hunt was impossible. He spent all his years studying Orr and despite how many people keep telling him what he is trying to achieve is impossible he never gave up trying to find a way to Cleansing Orr. He made many allies and earn the respect of each 3 Order through his journey before GW2 story began. This part of the Personal Story finally brings a end to that long journey he has spent his entire life trying to achieve from the moment he was born.
Kormir:
She was the leader of the Sunspears disappeared for a moment of the story then returned after we saved her. Throughout the story she does help us and suddenly was given the power to become a god suddenly with no real build up to that plot of the story.
@Curuniel
That why I said story wise. Unlike GW1, GW2 has a set story path. You most likely can play any personal story Act whenever you want like in GW1 but with GW2 having a set story path there will be parts you will not understand unless you go back and finish certain parts of past Acts.
A lot of Act 1 Personal Story was left unfinished and unanswered for the purpose of returning to that part of the story in the future Acts.
Come on I know there are more people working on their build.
Gw2 isn’t about copying other people’s build but working to create one that suits your own.
Yes, Weapon skill choices are limited by what weapon you have but that part of how you make a build in GW2.
Building a build goes by:
Weapon of Choice: Main weapon (and Secondary if you can swap weapons)
Utility Skills: (Build for improving you weapon’s use through boons, additional tricks in combat, or for defensive purpose.)
Traits: (So you can make your weapon skills and Utility skills unique from other players)
Types of Equipment: Armor, weapon, and Accessories.
Most aspect of Building a Build in GW2, if you have not noticed by now, is not the amount of skills choices you can have but by what type of Trait abilities you can have to make your current skills unique.
@ Curuniel
I’m not talking about continuing Zhaitan story since Act 1 is Zhaitan’s part of the the story.
I’m saying is that the event will continue the Personal Story as a Prelude to Act 2 of the Personal Story which introduces the next Elder Dragon we will face. If you have played GW1 then you will know how the storylines are set with time gaps between each Acts.
Gw1 story follows that Prophecies then several months after Prophecies comes Factions then 3 years later comes Nightfall and finally another 3 years later EoTN happens.
Act 2 and the events of Sea of Sorrow will takes place several months after Act 1 rather than it starting right after Act 1 story wise.
Right now GW2 has no Linear storyline because they have not yet started to expand on the storyline until now. Everything we see is only related to Act 1 or Side-stories of what is happening in the areas during Act 1.
