Well it most likely something that you can only understand if you finish Act 1 of the Personal Story (Zhaitan Act). Most likely a Prelude to Act 2 and the next Elder Dragon we will face in Act 2.
After all with Act 1 over, story wise, there should be less undead in Tyria but this most likely leaves room for the other Elder Dragons to begin expanding their territory now.
Ya the Lore of GW is scattered in the Books and In the game through NPCs. Most of the Lores can only be found by playing GW1 for now but there will be more reference to the lores of GW1 as GW2 progress.
The Story for this place will be set after Act 1 and most likely will introduce the Story of Act 2. Most likely which Elder we will be fighting in Act 2.
So no more risen but more of a certain type of Elder Dragon Minion to the point that you may be sick of seeing them. :p
I’m a Warrior, using a Hammer and Mace/Shield. 10/0/30/30/0

Strength: Great Fortitude

Stats: 2985 attack, 11% Crit Chance, 3377 Armor, 25142 Health (no Banner’s and with Hammer equipped)
Don’t know what to call it, maybe Juggernaut or something like that
Sounds like your build is what I call “The Wall”.
Basically you’re very defensive type warrior focused on being a Unstoppable Wall. However, you will lack damage rate because you’re focus is more on withstanding more hits rather than killing enemies.
Should I finish my story line? ..heard the loot is subpar. or should I wait.
Posted by: EdwinLi.1284
Well what they said.
It comes down to if you want to finish the current story now or not.
Later Anet may start releasing content that will require you to progress in the story in order to reach later in the future like they did with GW1 but for now it up to what you want to do.
A certain amount of the End Story Weapon skins are nice though and are worth Transmuting into Exotics if you want the look.
The Pact weapons Skins are Exotic level looks but sadly they’re rare type weapons but by now you should of obtained 5 free Fine Transmutation stone by now from the Black Lion Chest. If not well you can always buy them using Gold.
@Waar
Well the Signet is useful if you’re going for a Skill spamming type Build
The Thief I have use a Build I call “Trigger Happy” because it focus on Spamming the Unload skill for Duel Pistols. However, this also required the “Quick Recovery” Trait so I can obtain a extra 3 Initiative ever 10 seconds rather than 1 or 2 Initiative.
With how GW2 Builds works let get some ideas for naming builds you all use.
For me….
Engineer Build (Combat Alchemist)
Basically a AoE/Condition/support type build focused using potions to make yourself more effective. Effective build for easily stacking up to 9 Might by yourself.
Weapon: Duel Pistols
Healing Skill: Elixir H
Utility Skills: Elixir B (For buffs), Elixir U (For rapid fire use), and Elixir R (For knockdown, instant regenerate energy, and Reviving Allies)
Elite: Supply Drop (For backup if you find yourself in need of extra support.)
Traits:
(Firearms: 300) – Rifled Barrels, Hair Trigger, and Coated Bullets
(Inventions: 100) – Explosive Descent
(Alchemy: 300) – Fast-Acting Elixir, Cleaning Formula 409, and HGH
Gears of Choice:
Weapons: Berserker Type Pistols
Armor of Choices: Knights Gears/(Optional: Gears that give Toughness and Vitality like the Ascalonian Dungeon Gears if you want Exotic version)
Accessories: Knight type/Traveler type
“Fortunately” your Order choice won’t weigh on you for long.
You say that now but once they start progressing into Act 2 and Higher in the Personal Story there will be much more things affected by your Order.
What if in Act 2 for 1 part of our story (10 level story Part) we are given a request to help the other 2 Orders we did not join but we can only choose one. However, from this choice which ever of the 2 Order we did not join to help we will meet the Other Mentors and learn what happened to them because our character did not join that certain Order.
So which one will you help?
Vigil Choices
Durmand Priory Choice: Meet with Sieran and help her find a Lost Tome about the GW1 Hero’s Journey in a new map that would lead closer to discovering the Hall of Monuments and the secrets lost through time.
Order of Whispers Choice: Meet with Tybalt and help him fight the minions of Kralkatorrik in a new map near the the Blood Legion Homeland Borders. (You will meet Tybalt’s old Warband in this path)
Durmand Priory Choices
Vigil Choice: Help Forgal Fight the Minions of Jormag and push deeper into Jormag’s Territory. (You will Visit Forgal’s Ruined Home and his family grave)
Order of Whispers Choice: Meet with Tybalt and help him fight the minions of Kralkatorrik in a new map near the the Blood Legion Homeland Borders. (You will meet Tybalt’s old Warband in this path)
Order of Whispers Choices
Vigil Choice: Help Forgal Fight the Minions of Jormag and push deeper into Jormag’s Territory. (You will Visit Forgal’s Ruined Home and his family grave)
Durmand Priory Choice: Meet with Sieran and help her find a Lost Tome about the GW1 Hero’s Journey in a new map that would lead closer to discovering the Hall of Monuments and the secrets lost through time.
All this will lead to discovering the Hall of Monuments in the next part of the Story and in this path the Mentors will not die at the end and he or she will appear in your Home Instance once you complete this part of the Personal Story.

A note for people.
Never insult Mr. Gum Drops or else you will feel Mad King Thorn’s wrath.
@Keiran
You darn say the Mighty Pony Mr. Gum Drops will turn into a weak Dragon?
He already did, can’t you see him?
That not Mr. Gum Drops. That is Mr. Gum Balls, Mr. Gum Drops cousin.
So who else want Thorn to bring Mr. Gum Drops with him to GW2 when he finally returns?
Right now in GW1 there is a war going on between Thorn and Joko for the Halloween event. This got me thinking what happened between them that would spark such strong rivalry?
Any thoughts on this Lore?
@ Mad
That is because Destiny Edge are the main Characters of the Main Story. Our character is only telling and seeing the Main Story from his or her own perspective. Which is what Anet didn’t make clear when they described the Personal Story. Personal Story is not the Main Story but simply our character’s perspective of the Main Story.
Trahearne is only the main character for the Orr part of the story since Anet need to set the stage for who is the Pact Leader and how did he become the Pact Leader so they don’t have to use him a lot in the future story line because they got that part of the story out of the way. We will probably only see Trahearne very little from now on in the future Personal Story because his part in the story will be simply a NPC known as the Pact Leader.
By the six this is still going on?
@Lezard
Trahearne does have a history before GW2 but Anet seem to failed to give us that history so there is a lot of confusion and frustration about him. Anet should of given us a book about Trahearne before they released GW2 so we know about his past history Anet constantly repeats about in the Personal Story but only introducing a small amount of that history through a few Dialogues by our Order Leaders and Mentors. They even could of ended the book about Trahearne at that moment he leaves to Claw Island so we know how he got there in the first place.
Anet introduced to us Destiny Edge in Edge of Destiny which is what made us know and love each member despite how annoying it is to see them constantly arguing among themselves over the same issue over and over again when they could of just said “sorry” from the start and fix their friendships that easily.
Trahearne role as Pact Leader is understanding since we needed someone who was not a part of the Order and also well respect by them to keep the Orders together and we all know we don’t want our character being the guy who has to get the desk duty and fill in the paper works which Trahearne will be doing from now on since he is the Pact leader but Anet did not introduce to us his past history like they did with Destiny Edge which is a very important part that would of explained what made Trahearne respect by all 3 Orders long before GW2 story began.
As for his ability to summon more Minions it is mostly due to having more years of experience compared to our character who only has months of experience. His study of Orr and the Undead most likely is why he learned a lot about controlling more minions. Anet may add new Necro skills o trait that will allow us to summon more minions in future expansion if they plan on it since lore wise our character will have more experience by then with controlling minions..
(edited by EdwinLi.1284)
Ah come on people I know you all can do better.
“Why can’t a member of the Order of Whisper shout?”
“Because they can only Whisper”
Why hasn’t anyone else join in on the fun?
Here is another one…
“Why did the Risen Bull miss his target?”
“Because he was missing a Bull’s Eye”
Ah you people can’t come up with some Mad King jokes? I thought atleast some of the GW1 players would have some by now.
Well then let me start another one….
“Why was the Risen Chicken on the road?”
“Because he was Dead On it.”
Let have some fun making some Mad King’s jokes.
I’ll start…
“Knock Knock”
“Who is there?”
“Dead.”
“Dead who?”
“Dead you!”
kill player
“HAHAHAHAHAHA!”
That “rep” you want to see develop for Trahearne is already there story wise. Trahearne has a long history with all 3 Orders before GW2 story began but Anet only showed a small part of that long history through dialogues.
What Anet needs to do is to cover this long history that they already have for Trahearne some how. Like they did with Hero Stories back in GW1 when you play as Major Characters in the GW1 Lore so you can learn first hand what made those people important and how they became who they are today.
and what wrong with discussing GW2 expansions this early? Unlike most MMOs we already know what to expect for GW2 Expansions. Only thing we don’t know is how Anet will set the Expansion up.
It not like I’m asking them release the first expansion in 6 months or less. We all know expansions take about 1 year or longer to be released.
Well with the Luxon and Kurzick Factions gone the only thing left is a Empire ruled by the Imperial Family. Unless they make Cantha the place where they introduce the Deep Sea Dragon’s minions. They may call it Guild Wars 2 Darkness of the Deep.
I actually just finished my story about a week and was sorely disappointed at my choice of siege blueprints and a green item that I would not use and did not sell to a vendor for any amount of worthwhile coin. This is just absolutely sad. I’m glad I found this thread because I feel better there are others out there who feel as cheated as I did once I completed the game. I mean really, savior of Tyria and the reward is a lousy siege blueprint for another aspect of the game that has nothing to do with the story. There should most definitely be some unique skin or something that distinguishes players that have completed the story line, much to the same measure that those who explore the entire world get a little star badge by their character’s name.
I thought these posted would have stopped already when Anet announced the Unique End Story weapons they’re still trying to get to work.
Most of you are not aware that Anet has announced Unique end story weapons made for their looks as proof you’ve complete the storyline. You can only obtain 1 per character though but they’re not soulbound until equipped so store them if you want or use them for mystic forge.
Let discuss future expansions into the world of GW2 and have a little fun naming them (hopefully may give Anet ideas what to call them).
Cantha expansion: Guild Wars 2 Empire
Why Empire? Because Lore wise that is the state of Cantha if it still remains. Cantha is still ruled by a absolute Imperial family and is now a single Empire with the land united by force before GW2 began.
Depth of Tyria expansion: Guild Wars 2 Rise of Destruction
We have seen already the Destroyers are now rising from the Depth now but for now it is only a small part of the army. Who knows what horrors and more destructive destroyers has yet to be unleashed onto the surface of Tyria. We even have a few places where the Depth expansion Storyline may begin such as The Great Collapse in Divinity Reach (most likely the starting point if you’re a Human for the expansion)
Elona expansion: Guild Wars 2 Shadow of Torment
We know Kralkatorrik remains in the Crystal Desert and we can easily see his location as that giant big circle of corruption but there is a chance he may flee to Elona and there he may find a way to make himself even more powerful with the power of Torment since in Elona near the Crystal Desert the Gate into the Realm of Torment still remains.
“Utopia” expansion: Guild Wars 2 Utopia (if Anet plans to finish what they started in GW1 before EotN)
Well can’t say much since Utopia was never used as a expansion name for GW1 so why change it now?
Ya I’m still wonder how much longer will it take for Anet to release the Halloween event. It is already 9:00 AM PST here.
I was hoping they got it up at 12:00 AM PST today like with all their patches but I guess we have to wait a bit longer.
@ valho
Well the key to Claw island when as a Thief is to use your stealth and focus on killing the weak/ low HP enemies first.
I only died 1 once in Claw Island as a Thief and that was using duel pistols and you know how lacking on AoE attacks duel pistols is with Claw Island full of group enemies.
Well you all ready for the 4 Act Story telling the return of Mad King Thorn?
I’m ready and waiting to see how this special Holiday Story will go.
Ya the best strategy will be to kite them. One way is the use the map area to your advantage. Moving from high ground to low ground can help you have room for attacking and luring a small group of them away from the rest.
Anyone else feeling that the game is lagging and crashing a lot now.
It could be just that Anet is preparing the Halloween event and the 4 Act story they’re going to add for it along with the minor permanent content such as the new jumping puzzles, Dynamic events, and etc.
Ah well might as well wait for tomorrow for it to lower down a bit.
For now there are little things affected by story (such as New NPC in your instance depending on which path in your PS you chosen) but as the game progress, if Anet follows how they handled GW1, you may have to progress in your personal story to access certain future areas.
@Kiraki
You know you’ve just proven my point how people are now just over reacting to Trahearne now.
@ Tearthy Flame
Well that the point. Personal Story is not the main story but just our character’s perspective of the Main Story.
Main Story Characters: Members of Destiny Edge(Logan, Zojja, Caithe, Rytlock, and Eir) , Our Order mentor (Order Story only) and Trahearne (Orr Story only).
Personal Story Characters: Our Character.
The Story of GW2 has always been separated between Main Story and Personal Story with our character been the secondary character of the Main Story but the Main Character of the Personal Story because the Personal Story is our character’s point of view of the Main Story, not the main story it self.
If you don’t like the concept that the Personal Story is not the Main Story but just our character’s perspective of the Main Story then you may want to consider another game because Anet most likely has plans for the Hero of Legend who will damage Jormag’s teeth and destined to Slay Jormag to not be our character but a new NPC.
well the difference isn’t big. Most PS missions are fixed to a certain amount no matter the party size but a few are determined by party size.
Good analogy.
I believe Trahearne would fit as a Pact leader only if a lot of story was put behind him (which would require more storytelling and missions about him earlier), and only if he did something at least as outstanding as putting dragons back to sleep a la Destiny’s Edge – or at least if he had some special powers.
The only good thing is that he’s neutral to both orders and races so they have no reason to hold prejudice.Instead Trahearne jumps out of nowhere with popped collars and backwards baseball hat, making you wonder what the hell is happening to all you experienced to far.
That the thing about Trahearne that has been bugging me as I go through the Personal Story. All these dialogues showing that Trahearne does have a long history with each order that made him well respect long before GW2 story began. However, Anet only showed bits of that history through dialogue in each Order Path of what Trahearne did for each Order before GW2 began.
We’re missing a large chunk of the bigger picture they have for Trahearne and that is his past History with each Order.
That is the point of the Main Story of GW2.
GW2 is made to be more like a Story from a Novel which our character being that 1 character that shapes the events to that 1 event that will happen no matter what.
Our character is a Main Character but only as the character who is seeing the events of the Novel through his or her own eyes through his or her own Personal Story of the events that is happening in the Main Story.
The Main Characters of GW2 are the Members of Destiny Edge (Logan, Zojja, Rytlock, Eir, and Caithe), Our Order Mentor (For Order part of the Story), and Trahearne (Only for Orr part of the Story)
Our character is that one character that makes the events of the Main Novel happen. Everyone who reads a Novel always ask that one question of why the events of the Novel happen and later discover it was because of this 1 character who appears throughout the Novel but we never get to know until a new Novel telling his or her side of the Story is released.
You’ll need to progress eventually if you want to progress to Act 2.
It a good ideal to take someone with you if you’re having trouble with a personal story. I know you may not want to group with others to handle the Personal Story but it better than waiting until Act 2 to be released and then trying to progress on Act 1 and have trouble finding people to help because mostly everyone is doing Act 2 of Personal Story.
@ Red
That the thing Anet needed to cover with Trahearne. I’ve seen a lot of dialogue in the Personal Story about Trahearne did important things for each order in the past before GW2 Story began but that was only a small bit of the bigger picture they had with Trahearne when they chosen him as the Pact Leader.
Trahearne has a large history with each Order but Anet didn’t cover enough of that history to make people realize why Trahearne is important.
I think Anet needs to reintroduce the Hero Stories like they did in GW1 with the Bonus Pack (Gwen’s Story, Togo’s Story, and etc.) so we experience and learn what made him respected as the leader of the pack. We already have the reason why Trahearne needs to be the leader since our character can’t be the leader because that would make the order we joined feel superior to the other 2 which would only lead to distrust and high tension between all 3 Orders. However, our character did state Trahearne is well respected by all 3 Orders but that the only question that remains for me about Trahearne.
We’ve seen Trahearne has…
1) Connections to many people and races we have never or rare meet in person because of his travels.
2) the knowledge to handle diplomatic tasks.
3) respected by all 3 Orders because of his History with all 3 Orders before GW2 Story began.
4) Knows how to properly deploy units and find good places to setup bases in the battlefield.
5) Can handle the paper work because of his scholar life which he will be given a lot of since he is the leader of the Pact. (Thank the six we are the commander or else we will be the ones getting all the paper works and be stuck on a desk filling those things out)
Out of the 5 things I’ve seen it was the Trahearne’s History with all 3 Orders Anet did not cover enough on.
First of all, Wikipedia is not credible in it of itself as a source.
A Mary Sue is a type of fanfiction character, self inserted into a story, that has everyone love them, always succeeds, and in general is completely out of place in the story.
I’m not going to argue semantics, nor am I going to refute every last instance of T-Paine’s supposed glory hogging. I am going to post some images that show in the personal story, post T, you get an incredible amount of respect.

http://i.imgur.com/IyrKG.jpgI could go on, I have about another dozen or so examples, but that will have to do for now.
You feel what you feel about the personal story quest change. I can’t change your mind about that. But I believe my moutains out of molehills analogy still stands. Your personal character gets an incredible amount of respect from the most powerful people in Tyria.
Ya I find a lot of those dialogues that give our character the major credits in the personal story but most of them seems to only be in dialogues people can easily miss if they don’t take the time and talk to NPCs after the Personal Story mission.
There are plenty of dialogue given our character credit after claw island. I think the reason for all this unnecessary hate for Trahearne is people’s egos getting the better of them now.
The hate just start out small with people saying “they could of just improved Trahearnes personality to be more suitable for his character role and provide some background info about why the Orders respected him” since throughout the Personal Story I’ve seen a lot of dialogue showing that Trahearne has a long history with each Order that made him well respected by them and now some how turned into “Trahearne is the reason why everything in the Personal Story is horrible and if he never existed the Personal Story would have been 100% good.”
She is alive. They’re keeping her alive because of future story plans for her role.
Don’t forget this is only Act 1 of the Personal Story and we still have 5 or more Acts to go with each Act covering 1 Elder Dragon (Primordus, Jormag, Deep Sea Dragon, Kralkatorrik, and the 6th Unknown Dragon)
That’s not what a Sue is, at all.
A Sue is someone who fixes every problem, does everything by themself, is constantly saving the ‘real’ heroes, and whom everyone, unquestionably, adores.
THAT is a Sue.
A Sue is not a competent leader who asks their subordinates for advice and suggestions, a Sue does not need the help of others to accomplish anything.
In no shape, model or form can T-Paine be considered a Sue.
Your definition is just wrong. Many characters can be unlikeable, or despised and not be Sues.
Sound like what our character is force to do for most of the Personal Story because NPCs can’t keep up with our character most of the time in the Personal Story or tend to make some big mistake and our character is the one being sent in to fix that mistake all the time.
Engineers are the Spec Ops of the game.
What makes them powerful is not that gun they carry all the time but the gear and gadgets they have.
[Warning: this contains spoilers of the Order part of the Story. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!]
Playing the the personal story for the 3rd time now on to make my Vigil character so I can decide which Order path I will take before the story expands past Act 1 into Act 2 and I find my self looking deeper into what each personal story part is about. However, I’ll just focus on the Order Story for Act 1.
[WARNING: Spoilers begins here so stop reading if you wish to avoid Spoilers!]
Through the Order Story we are given a mentor for the Order. We journey with them through the story until Claw Island but it wasn’t until going through this part of the story again for the 3rd time that I realized that our character was the real Mentors of the Order Story.
Each Order Mentor had their own issues that they could never get over which they show through out the Order Story.
Forgal lost hope because he lost both his wife and children to Jormag before joining the Vigil.
Tybalt lost his courage and self confidence because of what happened to himself in the past before joining the Order of Whispers.
Sieran never understood what it means to be responsible even before she joined the Priory.
This issues remained with them until our character joined the Order. Despite that they were meant to be our Mentors we became there Mentor instread.
Through our character, by watching and traveling with us,….
Forgal regained his hope because we became like a son or daughter to him.
Tybalt regained his courage and self confidence because we always believed in him.
Sieran learned what it means to be responsible because she saw how we took responsibility to help others who are suffering from the Elder Dragons and how from being responsible we saved those people’s lives.
From what we taught them and what we gave them back each Mentor made their choice to give their life at Claw Island not for making the plot of the personal story just plain emotional but because if there was anyone who can teach others and give others back what they thought they had lost it would be our character.
The one Hero or Heroine destined to guide others to make defeating the Elder Dragons possible.
(ah “by the six” this thought about the Order Story made their death even more depressing)
And this is a perfect example of what ArenaNet should NOT do. This should be something that the PLAYER does in the Norn personal story. Hell, even the human, sylvari, charr, or asura stories. But you’re right. Based on what we’ve seen up until now, I won’t be surprised either.
Well Anet has placed our character the Hero who Guides the real Heroes of GW2 to complete their destiny. We’ve already seen in the Norm path, if you’ve chosen a certain background, that the weapon from the Norn legend is being built but who will wield it is not determined yet.
Our Hero may not be the Hero who is destined to slays the Elder Dragons and save the world because he or she is not the Hero of Legends everyone want our character to be but the Hero who made the Elder Dragon’s defeat possible by guiding the real Heroes of the Main Story.
Trahearne may have taken most of the focus during the Orr part of the story but he is the one given the Destiny to cleans Orr which is what allowed Zhaitan to be defeated. This task couldn’t be possible for him without us to guide him.
Our Mentors for each Order also made their choice at Claw Island because of our Hero. We showed them how to confront their own issues and what it means to fight and die for something worth fighting for and that thing worth fighting and dying for became our character.
^
I can’t change how you see thing since everyone sees things differently but Trahearne was never given the destiny to defeat the Elder Dragon. That destiny was given to our character and Destiny Edge members as said in the dialogues.
Trahearne was given the destiny to cleans Orr and that is it. However, his task is not fully complete yet since there are still much work to be done before Orr is truly cleansed. He most likely will only appear for a small amount of scenes in Future Acts since his role was only for Act 1.
As the leader of the pact he will be doing most of the paper work tasks from now on in the storyline from diplomatic tasks with the other countries (such as Cantha and Elona in the future) to organizing deployment of Pact units which will ground him to remain mostly in the Main base of the Pact (which could be Fort Trinity until Anet confirms a main base of operations for the Pact). Being leader of the pact is not what people think it is like. Yes, he had to fight in Orr but he had to so he could fulfill his destiny. His task as Leader from now on will be to keep the pact together.
Our hero, however, will be out on the field more and most likely will be the one sent to the Northern Shiverpeeks, Cantha and Elona while Trahearne must stay behind to handle organizing the Pact in Tyria while we are away.
best chance for these 2 are to put in 4 lvl 80 exotic weapons and pray. You can try 4 lvl 80 rares but that chance is very risky since it only a 25% chance to get a exotic greatsword and then add the chance of what type of lvl 80 exotic greatsword you will get makes the chances very low compared to just putting 4 lvl 80 exotics.
However, it may be possible to craft them using specific materials in Mystic Forge but this theory has not been tested yet.
Not for now. if they follow like GW1 the first few raid dungeons won’t be in the game until a major update to the game itself or in the next expansion pack.
All though I agree the final part of the personal story should be solo only. It is not hard to find a group for Arah Story mode. I can easily find 1 to 5 groups a day looking for members for Arah Story.
If you’re having trouble finding groups near Arah, Lion Arch is the ideal place to go look for dungeon groups because that place is currently the center for trade, dungeon groups, and etc. just like back in GW1 before Factions was released.
If you form a group yourself you can easily find plenty of people wanting to join you. 1 shout out for Arah story members and I was swarmed with 10 whisper requests( with 1 more whisper request to join every 8 seconds)
Not really. Humans just composed most of the world population back then until all these events started.
For now it only affects a certain part of your personal story but I’m guessing Anet will have future Personal Story parts affected by what your order is in the future.
