It might be the first time since HoT that rangers are fun again. I hated the Druid, it really was a chump elite for the expansion that was only good for raids and other support roles. I could have saved a lot of headaches and frustration not getting the elite or trying to make it work in open world. I like my ranger though I’m going to need new gear AGAIN!! The one major complaint I have for the Ranger is the lack of ranged combat that isn’t a projectile. Another projectile hate zone like Lake Doric and I’m going to be done with it. So hopefully the new profession is friendly to ranged combat otherwise I’ll not waste any more time with a Ranger.
Look at it this way. You paid for the expansion and $50 in gems, all the stuff you’re complaining about was technically no extra cost.
I agree the weapon skin is plain Jane and the outfit is uggh city. So you still got a good mini, the teleport, a free 80, and free character slot and only paid for the gems. It’s still a good deal even with a lackluster outfit and weapon skin.
I do wish they had shown the downloadable items in advance that would have helped players who are at max toons or not interested in the other goodies at the mean time.
Anyone who has this item and has used it on a Norn male knows what I’m about to say. the helm is turned to the wrong facing on the male Norn head. It has long bothered me that Norn males always look to the side wearing it. Can we please get the mask turned the correct way?
They’re drastically different both in their approach and their respective origins. Ragnaros is Elemental lord of fire. This harkens back to the concept of the elements themselves being entities of power. Ragnaros would definitely be stronger in his control of fire since he’s basically a physical representation of it. Balthazaar is more the standard god of war. Ares is most likely where this type of god comes from, the six kind of represent the pantheon though less overall gods.
Ragnaros is no god he’s fire incarnate and that’s why he can never be truly be destroyed. You would have to end the element of fire to kill him.
Balthazaar is a classic god of war, the embodiment of war and fire is usually associated with that, we see the same combination in many other ideas like Warhammer’s Khorne.

Given they have veteran, elite, champion, and legendary that already vary widely in their health and damage, why add in higher level mobs since they provide no additional function? Their merely one of the four archetypes without the tag on their faceplate. Second problem is at 84 they can outlast Legendary bosses this happens regularly in DS meta event.
Yep, and they’re frustrating to fight especially when add rush bosses spawn a whole bunch at once. If you ever do Dragon Stand Meta or any HoT meta events they’re really common.
For an update I’ve changed build and playtesting isn’t bad soo far.
First off I wouldn’t call it a scam. I has to do with local economies and that internet exchange is already not on a level monetary field. So if you’d like to pay the same then certain laws would have to change or be altered to achieve this. As you mentioned buying in the Dollar is cheaper with current exchange, so you have to do the work to take advantage of that system. Anet doesn’t control countries markets, so blaming them isn’t going to help, when it has to do with the legal restraints and tariffs around internet sales. In the states some states actually pay more for everything they buy on internet because of this.
I know it’s been posted before, but seriously, anything 81+ has soo much health and damage way beyond what they should. In full wanderer’s gear one hit from an 82 took half my life! This kind of overpowered mob actually has not place in end game unless it’s tagged as a veteran, champion, or elite. There is no need for 81+ level mobs at all since basically they are the same thing just no tag to let the player know they’re not a normal mob on their image.
Even without the F2 ability it could be surprisingly fun. I will have to wait to see which skills you get merging. One reason not to allow the F2 would be the fire wyvern, though it would have been fun it really would be a bit too much. Dagger main hand is my only gripe, the Ranger currently lacks a strong ranged attack that isn’t susceptible to projectile hate. Really wanted the rifle since I find it strange the Ranger can’t use one.
I don’t know how well the Weaver will work, but given the current complication of elements increasing the difficulty by 2 in getting what you need when you want it is going to really make this class very tenuous for multi-toon players. Tracking 32 combinations for each weapon set? Good luck remembering that when you play another profession.

I’m actually OK with a more open map cramming things into such a tight space is part of the problem with Tangled Depths. More room should equate to less mob density. Also another issue with HoT was all the gliding restrictions or mobs that shot you out of the air so you couldn’t utilize movement in much of the maps.

The longer vid I found where not only does it show the bar, it also goes over the skills and dagger skills. Just search Soulbeast GW2 in YouTube was literally the first video. The guy in the video shows the tooltips and everything.
Also found a thorough breakdown video of 15 min, it went over much of the skills and abilities that were in a pretest video. No it doesn’t sound bad, if anything they’re saving it to the launch so that rangers can be surprised to find the new spec is a much needed improvement. It’s also condi based so the best of damage with the current ranger is there as well.
This isn’t much but actually doesn’t sound terrible. You get the pets special abilities, if you can use their special attack this is going to be kitten. Instead of a fire wyvern taking to the skies it’ll be the ranger, meaning you get to avoid attack and lay an AOE fire. That’s if it works that way. I’m actually more excited seeing this. The ranger in the vid uses wing buffet.
One major benefit of mounts is that instead of relying so heavily on multilevel to increase map size they won’t be afraid to make the map large in terms of area.
It could actually be a solid elite. The major question will be how will it work with the other trait lines given shroud is not a thing. So it really will depend on whether or not if there is good trait lines that don’t focus on shroud. What will be nice is the traits that recharge shroud should recharge this faster. I’m really curious if MM will actually buff it a lot given the minions already add damage, toughness, and life force. The problem so far has been that in half of the LS episodes map masteries have been minion destroyers. Hopefully the mount doesn’t wipe minions otherwise it will completely make MM useless in the new area even if it’s better for scourge.
I ran a viper necro through there and to be honest with only two minions it was a breeze. Healing minion and devour one. I’m curious how much the nerf is going to affect the build though.
I’m very pessimistic about this change, not going to hide it. For the Necro there’s a lot of issues with HoT and the failure of the Reaper to bring power to the class. Now it looks like they’ve just said who cares condi overload. I’m not disappointed I deleted my Berserker Necro and the news of nerfs coming to Reapers to make way for the new elite is very troubling. It’s still my best class to play, but the power creep of expansions is testing my patience when NPC’s are rarely nerfed or balanced with profession changes. I’d like to finish up getting the masteries from HoT but at this point it doesn’t look to be happening any time soon.
Also there is news that condi is going to take a huge hit in the damage output department. Q3 balance post pretty much sums up the headaches moving forward to expansion release.
Gliding is in the new maps. If you haven’t checked out WoodenPotatoes after show video they show exactly that in their preplay of the expansion.
Honestly they could have just given us the ability of true flight and that would have given players all the mobility they need. Mounts is OK and lacking true flight does add a travel dynamic to the game. It’s the least of my concerns as the new elites look to complicate the game enough.
There really isn’t a financial loss in buying the most expensive except for higher taxes. I will preface this with if you buy gems regularly this really is the best option since you’re basically paying the same as buying the expansion no perks. Again the difference in tax is the only quote cost. If you don’t buy gems then yes there’s a difference, however, 4000 gems can be used to get gold or items you normally don’t buy.
WP’s post show does bring a ton of questions with it. I own the expansion waiting to play. But given what’s been said it really looks like Anet has some ambitious ideas. The problem I see is yes power creep is going to be insane and without much beta testing it’s going to frustrate PvP and WvW for quite some time. Adding nine new builds all demanding balance isn’t going to be easy and without heavy pre testing it may actually bite them big time. For some of the professions I play the feedback is worrisome if not disappointing. Nobody reviewed the Ranger. It was my first profession and was fun until HoT. Now it looks like the Necro is going full condi with Reaper being an exercise in futility to create a power based elite. The Thief isn’t encouraging when for a sniper with the new mechanics given how static the Elite looks to play. It won’t be for open world, raid, and LS if it’s highly immobile. Elemental is a mess now you have even more elements to manage, every weapon just increased by two fold the number of possibilies. Engineer I will have to play to know if it will be fun. Warrior is PvP and WvW exclusive this expansion so that’s one I really don’t have to waste time with. Mesmer could be fun but it sounds too heavily based on PvP and WvW. Revenant is one of my least favorite just don’t like the professions lack of build diversity, so it’s probably not going to see much play. Guardian actually looks interesting hopefully more direct damage and not soo much support play.
Mounts could be fun, hopefully the MP’s will be more achievable still don’t have all of HoT, it makes the game really hard when you spend the bulk of play solo.
I created a thread about this very topic. Look it may not be the best option, but Blood can work in a pinch with power. Or just use the healer minion and minor minions, on a couple I spec’d more corruption and took swampland, worked fine for condi and that was with viper gear. Or as a last resort don’t use the ley-line organs then you’re minions will be fine except for flying area. Good luck.
I would beg to differ on it being used sparingly. Every arrowhead, rolling devil, mushroom stomper, Jade construct/bow, Mordrem smasher, and there is more just can’t think of them atm. It would be alright if a few mobs had them, but that’s not the case in HoT nor the LW3 maps. As I said Bitterfrost fun, Orr fun. You can play your class not deal with hamfisted mechanics in abundance that really drag down the fun.
Yeah, I found myself going welp that wasn’t necessary. On the other hand given they also give you fifty dollars in gems it’s the same cost as buying the expansion without the extra content. I buy gems so for me there was no real loss. (shrug)
I’m sure Anet is merely complying with tax laws since they can’t sell to those markets otherwise.
One of the nice almost relaxing parts of Orr is cc works again. Went back to Draconis and it didn’t take long for the breakbars to ruin fun. A few mobs with them OK but seriously there is soo many mobs that have them it’s the main reason HoT is headache. Then there’s the condition heavy destroyer mobs that not only hit hard but can tear down toons fast. They’re no longer susceptible to chill in DM and that makes them even more ridiculous.
Though I’ve purchased the expansion a focus on less break bars (cc denial) would be a good return to normal mechanics. It’s really hard to feel heroic when every cc takes you out of the fight, yet many mobs ignore cc altogether. Strangely this explains why I like Bitterfrost and now Orr the best of LS3, both avoid break bar heavy mobs and instead rely on you using your cc and skills to overcome multiple mobs. Hopefully the expansion will take note of this and not turn into HoT 2.0.
It’s really unfortunate they’re doing it with this set. A lot of people aren’t happy with how they rolled this one out given Abaddon’s appeal in the game lore. However if I remember correctly they did another set and didn’t have an achievement originally with it, but Anet did retroactively add one. They also should double the return since the set is twice as much. As it stands right now I’m really disappointed they haven’t made a good set in a long time. Lots of tickets and no good skins to spend them on.

There are a few spots where patrols cross, however if you keep that in mind you can plan your trek across the region without too much trouble. Since I’m not sure if you’re farming berries or your farming chests I can’t really give more specific help.
But to put the zone into perspective I’ve brought my Ele and theif here, the weakest of my toons and traveled in off peak hours still able to get the berry farm done and complete the map. I really can’t think of any mob, POI, task, or other to the map that can’t be done even with squishy toons. I would recommend you get a feel for the mobs, they really telegraph their moves and with a little planning I’m pretty sure the numbers won’t be a problem once you plan for them.
I know which bushes are most likely to trigger the griffins and depending on toon I either rush in to spawn them all and burst AOE or approach slowly triggering one or two at a time. Wolves are pretty much the same. Engineer turrets agro from a long way away so only use the turrets when it’s absolutely necessary. I know where every veteran ice ele is and exactly how to approach killing or avoiding them. The map takes a little patience at times and sometimes even I get killed even with the best planning when I’m playing a squishy class like the theif. This last time through was the first time I didn’t get downed on my theif and I run with pistols only. Each set has different sigils but it’s pure pistols which is mainly single target. Either way try to have fun with it and good luck.
I got the mini, backpack, and the glider in those 28 chests. The RNG is always fickle, but it doesn’t hurt to increase magic find.
Strange I haven’t found the mobs in Bitterfrost to be soo difficult. By far it’s my favorite map of the expansion. It’s the one I’ve replayed the most. There are a few issues with the map, not soo much that it ruins the experience. The map reward is the best of the LW stories. In fifteen minutes I get 47-50 berries, so doing it daily I can get an item in short order. The biggest draw back to the map is the elixir was a daily that requires traversing the entire map.
If you’re having trouble ask away, I’ve explored and done every part of the map many times and love going back there often.
The new map is OK not too much vertical. I don’t care for the mastery, it’s another highly situational not really necessary mastery (this would have been a good universal mastery, but tying them to maps limits their benefit). The Balthazaar area is just painful at least it can be completed without too much mob fighting.
I opened 28 and only got four of the Black Lion boosters. I’ve noticed at least in my experience if you open a lot at once your chances are better. I do however dislike the loss of the first slot which used to not be a seasonal item or fixed drop.

What I find funny is that Anet sold GW2 on playing characters how you like. And you’re arguing that just play meta it’s soo easy why complain.
For comparison I have a necromancer in full viper’s gear, I can kill things soo much faster and the more the merrier. So far no ele build I’ve played can survive/handle the level of conditions, mobs, and equal damage output. I don’t expect them to play the same, but there should be comparable builds to handle those situations which the Ele severely lacks.
I’m kind of annoyed that the Black Lion portals can’t be put in it, still got it. Wish they would have just gone one step further and made one item for all scrolls and portals.
I dumped MM for Blood, not the best option but made up for the lack of minions. It just really annoys me that for many professions I play changing traits means needing new gear. Luckily for the necro it wasn’t super detrimental too bad that wasn’t case for other professions. Despise the projectile hate of Doric. After the last few and way too much spent on regearing I have only one of each class and elite.
Not too big a fan of Inception levels of secret society. The story itself isn’t bad, I really have no complaints about it.
For gameplay I have a ton of suggestions. I’ll keep it short.
Less add heavy bosses, a few are OK but every boss isn’t fun. What gear and skill set is this for? What quality of gear is needed, how quick are they required to adjust to new zone specific mechanics, and is this cohesive with solo play.
The last one is the big one for me. This is by far the worst of LWS3 for solo play.
Second to Lake Doric this is also bad for Class/Trait exclusion. Where Doric was heavily anti projectile this is heavily anti minion master. Too many zone mechanics wipe minions.
I normally run a MM in my necro build to make up for conditions and add survivability. New Orr zone basically destroys the entire trait line. Every active zone ability wipes your minions including gliding. Then add to this a story event that every time the fire trap triggers it wipes all your minions even if it doesn’t hit you. And they still are focusing on add bosses, pretty much destroys the fun.
I was looking forward to a good story not some Illuminati secret society garbage mixed with a cluster kitten of annoying mobs that are way over the top on damage and health. Magma Elementals kill a minion with every lava pool, not to mention they got the fireball from the White Mantel Elementalist that drops a lava pool and the health of a Elder Rock Elemental in Draconis Mons.
Who thought this would be fun? I’ve seen groups of players run off by the Magma Elemental. If this is any sign of what’s to come I won’t be buying the expansion. HoT wasn’t cohesive to solo play and again it looks like that’s where they want to go. Even on story mode Anet can’t stick with solo play cohesion.
Of all the LW stories this is by far the worst I’ve played, even LD wasn’t this frustrating with a boss that they had retune.
The new zone in Orr is lagging heavily. For long periods of time the game pauses. Is anyone else noticing the long lag? This only happens in the new zone, nowhere else in the game does this happen.

I did this in exotics so no it’s not gear dependent. You need to kill the grubs when the boss is by them otherwise their AOE won’t damage the boss. You don’t have to fight the boss at all just kite him around to the grubs. It may take a few tries but it’s very possible. Good luck.
All brand new weapon sets since I’ve been playing have been one ticket at release and I have purchased many individual items and some sets. I was going to buy the whole set if it was a good set since the last set I had bought was the Frozen one and really hated the Keepsake and Devoted set didn’t purchase one item from either. This set reminds me too much of the sentinels in The Matrix and I most likely will avoid any purchase since I’m not into squids. The price gouge is also disheartening since it also means to buy the set you’re now getting giped for a seven ticket reward.
Actually it was iron shot that finally made firearms superior to long bows. Iron shot could penetrate plate armor, where lead shot wasn’t as effective many times it would reinforce the armor it hit. Long bows had the benefit of accuracy (but lacked the armor penetration). It wasn’t until rifling that firearms became superior in both accuracy and armor negation.
If you’re having trouble managing conditions as long as we’re talking general running around not PvP or Raids. Go MM the minions will make the conditions moot and cleanse and transfer conditions to your enemies without you needing to do it. I run full Viper this way and my conditions wipe things out fast only use Epidemic and let the minions do the rest. Dagger offhand gives me the opportunity to send conditions away when I burst epidemic meaning all of those are more condi’s on my targets.
I don’t think the Blood Ruby Pendant does. However the Jade Pendant and possibly the one in Draconis Mons might. The Jade Pendant doesn’t drop Unbound Magic when salvaged.
No it will never happen. They haven’t made ascended gear available that way, there are a few that can be sold on AH but they must be earned through the RND or crafting. They are gold and time sinks so there is no way they’d undercut this part of the game given that they don’t want to fall into level creep.
Two problems, one crossbows are two hand weapons more comparible to a rifle (the ones that can kill people anyway). Two pistol crossbows are terrible weapons, their bolt is too small and the draw too short to make them effective at hitting/killing anything. You might kill a rat with one but a person is far too much mass for them to be of benefit. This is why they aren’t used much in anything when it comes to fantasy except Dark Elves of Warhammer.
So yes it would be a good addition especially for the engineer, where the crossbow could be more the long range weapon and the rifle focused on short range combat like a shotgun. At this point it’s doubtful it will ever happen since elites are tied to one track and can’t be shared across the profession. The other option is a Sniper elite for Engineers that has a kit for a sniper rifle compared to a whole new weapon that would be tied to one elite.
According to this Wiki it’s only Trinkets excluding rings that have a chance at that.
It has to do with which mastery you have focused as you earn xp on the HOT maps. I did this, as you fill the xp bar for one master line you can swap to another master line and build focus on that track while you’re playing. So if you fill up xp on Gliding then shift to ixotle and build xp there. This only has to do with first starting mastery because after only once you purchase a skill can you build anymore xp on another when all tracks xp bars are full.
