Monthly laurel messed up this month

So i made the monthly pvp quite early this month and now you give 10 laurels to people who saved it/didnt care for it earlier for completing it…kinda unfair

Copy thread, but same problem.

They REALLY should have just waited till the end of this month or gave it to other people.

Oh well, Anet doesn’t see the extremely obvious in patches.

Hello,

I am a new player and looking to play a melee based character like warrior. Do ranged classes or ranged builds have a significant advantage over melee in pvp?

I took a look at various class abilities and it looks like a melee class could burn a cooldown to close the gap just to see the ranged burn one and reopen it?

Am I wasting my time sticking with melee weapons on a guardian or warrior?

Yes and no. Warriors have horrible gap closing skills, while guardians make up for those in boons and tank ability.

In a simple explanation: Don’t pick warrior, guardian is fine with melee.

Nope, warrior has alot of gap closing skills.
But the problem is he does not have many option to let the target stay there for him to dish out all the melee power.
All he got is a long CD kd utility that can easily just breakstun and escape, and a shorter cd immobilize that can be cleansed by condition removal easily.

Guardian, on the other hand, got some disgusting useful trapping of hammer 5 that’ll let the target to stay there for the duration of skill.
Guardian also has easy access to immobilize that does not require you to spend an utility slot on it.
In terms of gap pusher, guardian has access to some protective shelter that’ll push anyone who approach.

Most of warrior gap closers are directly effected by slows. So yeah…..gap closing is easily dodged.

B-B-But personal glory matters!

I keep getting rooms/servers where people think that because they have the most personal glory that they did the most. All. night. long.

In tpvp, there needs to be a message where it reads:

“Hello player, personal glory [B] does not reflect how skilled of a player you are”.

That way I don’t get some guy who caps/leaves every base complaining that his team was noobs because he’s on the top of the personal glory scoreboard.

I prefer conditions because of reliability against stealth/LoS hits as well as the nice AoE for spvp. I chose blind over scepter duration because duration is just on scepter and I don’t have all day to just auto attack everyone.

You see this is a huge mistake.

Its not normal, you should practice before queing up for tournies. This is usually done in hotjoin and refined for tournies. What pve people do(for laurels now) is just get into the mist and go straight to the tournie que.

Seriously, I’ve seen so many people who didn’t even bother to change runes or utilities just waltz right in like its just a matter of time before he was carried.

Are you seriously saying that hotjoin is training you to be a better tournament player? One is a clusterkitten zerg game were the biggest DPS and skill spaming wins and the other requires skill, team coordination and defensive specs to hold the points as much as possible.

-I’m not saying hotjoin>tpvp. I"m saying rank caps need to be in tpvp so pve players don’t just waltz in there without even speccing and go “huh, this sucks, why waste my time on spvp”.

At least it gives them a sense of what pvp is like. The objectives and team play for example.

I’d much rather have a simple rank 10 requirement than pve people going “this is my first time” and get crushed by a bunker 10 times in a row.

Problems with Patches

To sum up every patch in its effects, this is what I see for spvp.

1. Buffing an underplayed build or such, but not to the point of it being competitive or at least more useful than the other other builds already out there.
(flamethrower/turret engi, for example).
2. Nerfing a popular build, to the point where its not playable anymore.
(Quickness warrior for example.)
3. Ignoring the blatant problems with the balance for months
(a lot of builds here that go into #2 after several months of all the players already knowing about the exploits certain builds have).

Seems to me this is just about every other patch. We get a lot of fixes, which is great(!), but then we get all these balance changes that have no alternatives or really anything but straight buffs/nerfs to a small set of skills.

Just wanted to point out that this is what happens every patch. Its not fun to be playing any build that gets nerfed to the ground, or to try out a new patched build only to find out its still mediocre-below-average.

1) Mobility:
- Mobilestrikes: GS 3, 5; Sword 2 and Shield 4 will remove snares
- Rush, Sword Leap
- 35 sec of swiftness out of 48 (weakest spot of this build)

2) Condition cleans:
- Lyssa, Signet of Stamina

3) Invulnerability:
- Endure Pain, Shield Block

4) Counter CC
- Balanced Stance, Last Stand

5) High damage
- 4.6k effective power before fury / might
- 75% crit rate with fury and 87% crit damage
- 2.1k Power

6) Armor (dodge most attacks, but you need a bit of armor for those hits that do go through)
- 35% Damage reduction (ignore buildcraft as it includes turtles defense and thick skin)

7) Control
- 2 Cripples (Sword 3, GS 4)
- 3s Chill on shield weapon swap

In wvw that would be alright. Spvp, nah.

Laurels for legendary skins, because if we really wanted tpvp “top prizes” it would just be ele/guardians all day and night trying to get to that “top spot.”

Advice: Don’t play warrior if your worried about nerfs. Every other class is ok, but for competitive tourney modes Ele/Guardians usually benifit the team more than most.

Considering points cap just as fast or slow with just one person…….idk, personal glory is just that, personal.

People often use this as “i’m better than you” type of thing. Honestly I never saw the point when me tapping an already downed opponent gave me just as much points as me completely downing him.

What does top scoring in hotjoin mean to you?

Generally its the one person who gets to most “tags”

Like hitting a downed player for some minor amount, capping a point even if all 8 of you are standing on it, or in general just sitting back and using AoE.

Yeah our melee damage is so heavily skill dependent its kind of sad. I believe we are on par with thief for auto attacks as a whole.

It’s entirely possible that 50% inc damage taken with a 50% inc attack speed buff is too much negative to counter the positive. However, to insinuate that it completely isn’t worth it now because it’s assumed that the opponent will be able to attack the Warrior back for the full duration (and, as someone pointed out, that’s faulty math anyway) is irrational insanity.

It’ll probably be tweaked, but for the love of logic, take 3 seconds to think about when the skill is used.

Let me just fill you in, warrior doesn’t have a whole lot of anti-cc. Stunbreaker + cripple/slow or immobilize will counter the entire Bulls rush combo.

That being said, 50% quickness is NEVER going to be worth 50% damage taken, on any class at any time.

Why? Because that requires for me to be in a 1v1 situation, him have no stunbreakers or even just protection, teleport, any manner of escape utilities, or kiting abilities.

It was an already easily countered skill(reason warriors were on the lowest tier), but now its easily countered AND does 50% less damage in that small window. Worth it? Not really.

The main problem with blurred frenzy is that it shouldn’t give invulnerabilty. That doesn’t even make sense. Why not give 100b invulnerability? Same scenario.

Mesmers have i believe the highest burst now(maybe thief beats them), but they can still down you faster than you can them. Put that with stealth/clones and stuns. DEAD

@Archaon, I think you’re missing my point. I’m just stating that a player who is rank 7 is almost always a new pvp player. Let’s do the math:

150 tourney wins for the champion title gives 30.000 points of rank from the final award alone.

Rank 7 = 5.000 points required to get there, which is about 25 tourney matches won with 0 points, or around 15-25 tourneys won when taking into consideration mid-match points. Even lower when taking into account all losed matches, and even less when taking into account all hotjoin matches.

So yes, it’s easy to assume that a rank 7 player is a new player, even if they have never touched hotjoin.

That’s for sure…and for sure a r<10 is pretty much dead meat in tpvp, but everyone starts from being dead meat so it’s normal, all i said is that end match score means nothing…scoring more points than a r40 (Like in that screenshot) doesn’t mean you’re better than him…at all…as i said before a mid bunker could save you kitten for the whole match scoring less than 50 pnts, but he still saved your kitten and maybe he did better than the other 4 with 3 times his points…

Think the main point here is not “why quickness was nerfed” but “why did we get zero warning about a 50% nerf to a game mechanic”

I mean if this happened to any other mechaic(50% nerf) you’d probably get mad. Hey cripple only slows for 25%, protection only goes for 15%, or any number of other conditions/boons/mechanics.

The point I am trying to make is, not all pve-er are noobs in pvp. Please do not remove laurels from pvp, I am having lots of fun with solo-q, might shift my play style in the future too.

Yet another reason why people don’t understand tournaments. Personal gloy does not automatically equate to being good. This is the most common mistake by pve’ers i’ve seen.

And it really depresses me that people think they are better than the players who defend the points. Cap/leave will always get you more points than staying around to defend.

Also you only won by 40? Against that low ranks? man so bad.(4v5 even)

Same exact problems for me in dungeons, seems I can’t get it off (that’s what she said) on enemies to the side half the time. Feels much less fluid and fun of a skill.

It did mediocre damage and crippled. Not too much of a balance issue.

Just seems like Anet really hates us warriors having fun.

Even at 2.1k toughness if my ranger ate a full 100b, he was reduced to around 10% HP left.

100b is ridiculously strong if it lands.

It just needs about a 40% damage nerf, shorter channel, and be made mobile in return. When it’s the only single ability that can land 28k figures on berserker gear (in cof there’s even a video of it doing 42k).

How much heal did you have? 10K!?

With that much toughness a FULL GLASS CANON 100B warrior will not do above 14K damage in sPvP (which is where the concern for the builds is most prominent), the end.

Also you seriously can’t be using PvE crit numbers to try and support an argument for PvP, it’s absolutely and completely pointless to do so.

With a shaman amulet my ranger sits at 16k HP. Not everyone is a necromancer or warrior. If you don’t grab an amulet with vitality or spec heavily into the vitality line 15-17k is the average for most builds.

The ability does absurd damage. Yet, even at the 3.5 sec unhasted channel time, you can just have the guardian in your team chain someone to give you plenty of time to channel it.

You simply cannot balance the ability’s current damage with landing it reliably. The current mechanic is that if you do land 100b+whirling attack, it’s either a kill shot or leaving someone with a couple thousand hp to be finished down. Very easy to dodge 1v1, not so much when you have a group pinning people down for you.

The only reason you don’t see it is because both elementalist and mesmers have invulnerabilities and teleports that can even get them out of roots or negate the damage of 100b when you do land it. And they currently dominate the scene.

Having the skill be more mobile and reducing its damage to allow more consistent use would address the problem of these kinds of professions who have invulnerabilities, so they can’t negate the big chunk of your damage and instead you lose just a part of it but can punish them later on.

Hundred blades does not go over 14k in spvp. That being said, I don’t think it does at all If i can recall.

If you built full burst, it still would only hit for a paltry amount 14k and need mutiple cooldowns blown to work.(just tested it)

If you have 2k toughness it deffinitely won’t do over 12k.

There was never a problem of it not being mobile, the problem was that it needed other skills to do decent damage. Make it mobile and keep the damage or make it stationary and make it higher.

Kinda the general assumption: Any build you can run now will get heavy countered by the average other professsion

Blinds/slows for melee-hammer
Condition removal for conditions
And of course just outbursting you if you go burst.
(which is actually possible to do now in melee range in HoTM)

Also, no one takes longbow JUST for the immobolize because then one condition removal and you’re done. I’d rather take mace offhand or a shield if I’m going that far for a single cc.

I spent all my tickets on Tournament Chests last month. I don’t think this is a good idea.

Well point is they already have a vendor and could just put another slot for chest or gear.

I wouldn’t think this would be a huge undertaking as its just one npc and you could just put “random rank-animal tokens” or something, that way people wouldn’t have to grind for hundreds of hours to get cosmetics but shrugs could have just made them the normal chest as well.

Regardless, like I’ve said, this update does not attracts only (some of) the pure pve players.

Uh…….yes, yes it is. Not in the sense they join pvp, but they are doing it solely to get pve items then abandon pvp.

Now this brings us back to why, and the main problem is there is no pvp gain for getting laurels that are used for pve only. If they had pvp vendors, that would change.
(seriously, just change the FT-tickets to laurels and make the price 1-2-3, There i Just solved all the problems.)

That is essentially the problem. PvP monthly gives laurels……..for pve.

It’s not a problem, it’s an incomplete solution. A first step. Keep in mind that there are many players that enjoy to play both pve and pvp. And out of those players, there are also those that don’t have much time to play each day, and used to give priority to pve for the superior dailies.

This won’t create much incentive for pure pvp players, but it should attract a lot of pve/ pvp hybrid players, and even some pve-oriented players who might want to take this opportunity to experiment new game modes.

EDIT: On second thought, this also offers means to make (some) gold out of pvp.

No, I’m not happy warriors are now not viable at all in tPvP, but at least 80% of what you’re complaining about is not only false but can be explained away with common sense.

Take a chill pill and think it through next time, they might pay attention if you do.

Laurels for pvp was an excellent, excellent change. Now, just put in a laurels vendor in HotM, and pvp-only items, please. Not that I would spend them for pvp stuff (I’ll need the ascended stats for pve), but I know other people would.

That is essentially the problem. PvP monthly gives laurels……..for pve.

Its like what if the pve monthly gave laurels for pvp, there would be so much raaaaaage.

In less than 4 days the monthly will reset and things will sort of be back to normal. I reckon this only happened because the patch came at the end of the month and it didn’t take into account people that had done their pve version of the monthly before it, so they are getting rewarded with laurels by doing the pvp version as well.

In a normal setting, you would only get rewarded for doing one version of the monthly, or so it said in the patch notes.

Uh…….you know each monthly reset you will see MORE people in it than not right?

You get rewarded for both I believe, but thing is pvp monthly is 10x easier than pve.

more people in solo q is a good thing, a certain percentage of them will stick around and pvp.
Making a true solo/duo Q vs team q would alievate a lot of these problems.
