If you read every profession subforum, you’d think there’s no decent class in GW2. ALL classes think they are the worst in some area.

I wouldn’t say play whatever in PvE, depends WHAT in PvE. Only high level fractals and hardcore raiding require meta builds/strict stuff. Otherwise yeah, all classes can be relevant w/ thought into gear/build I mean, it’s not quite anything goes in terms of “any gear stat/build/quality will be fine” no. But you don’t need to be restrictive to ONLY meta builds or etc.

WvW – I love Druid roamer/small group play. I cannot comment on necro not having one. What someone said above, is true. Though, both raid and WvW ppl have expectations/misnomer ideas of Druid.

Sword and board is a common old reference/slang in RPG/MMOs. Sword + board. It’s often used still. The term, maybe not the combo as Warrior.

Ranger is not limited actually; if you min/max hardcore meta ALL classes are limited.

Necro is a good choice; but I agree, try others too; 80 trial is nice; but you get specific weapons, so it’s not quite as useful unless u bring weaps too. And really, won’t get a good sense until play a class. Why I still love leveling, you really get a feel for a class even early on. I changed from my initial main class to others drastically. Like, I disliked ele for a while, then decided get it to 80 finally during holiday event Oct, and got elite and whoa – loved tempest. Learned it more, and my fav class. I was Guardian then Ranger first. So, I find all profession are varied – heck I haven’t even gotten into necro really I’m sure I could like it best at end lol. Never know till try.

Xtraordinary Slackers – multi-game guild (SWTOR), newer in GW2; smaller, but growing. We do not require 100% rep we are slackers afterall :P We aim for inclusive, social, casual/semi-casual/dedicated (to slack) play. We are a guild building in GW2, but are solid in SWTOR; but this means things are in flux in GW2 and small but not a ghost town at all, but we also will never be a 150 person guild and dont want to be.

We tend to play later in evenings, west coast peeps but Aussies and also International peeps in guild. Right now we have 1 weekly set time for missions/more and currently do NOT raid/fractals officially – we plan to eventually get into light Fractals and casual Raids, that is to say, majority of peeps would be learning them/not forcing meta builds. We will never be a hardcore raiding/guild.

RP is fine. We have royal ranks (ex: Peasant Slacker are recruits, King Slacker is GM aka ME! Vice GM is my son the Prince (not in RL and have had a Slacker Royal Family story in SWTOR before; RPing, and lightly very raunchy BUT maturely RP sometimes on forms, TS, etc. Not full on but tongue-in-cheek which is us, silly lot.

If this worked, you would not see other runes being played on Ele. Maybe overstating lol but it doesn’t work.

Brawler runes give you the same power, toughness rather than ferocity, and every heal skill grants you might. Warrior runes give vitality, power, and -20% weapon swap (for eles this would be attunement swap). If you want a more defensive stat combo I love Trooper runes with tempest (toughness, vitality, shouts remove a condition).

Strength Runes can work > Brawler; as it gives u 5% dmg under might and just better DPS stats overall – not 10% of Scholar but it’s more than many runes, and, more defensive ones won’t hurt your DPS too badly outside of Raids. In fact, Open World PvE/WvW I prefer them. But, losing 10% dmg or any rune that gives dmg boost is bad; also toughness detracts from tank possibly. I LOVE Trooper Runes w/ Tempest, but not in Raids. Again, this is the PUG tradeoff; or a learning group, you often will be below 90% health.

I would personally do Str, tho I don’t raid too much on my Ele for dmg.

1.) Elementalist as Ballistic said. But Ele aside from glass cannon CAN surprisingly spec into a solid support. Best heals after Druid; great boon/auras, CC, it’s formidable. You can spec Earth, skills, get vit/tough up considerably and take a beating but DPS suffers, basically that’s for support only.

3.) Buffs are very good. Group play is why. And solo some raise magic find, etc. It SEEMS small, 100 power or 70 precision, but get boon duration, heal pwr, etc. it starts to matter. THey dont last long why tend to save them for stuff; like Octovine event, Teq, etc. w/ Open World OR Raid/Fractals etc.

5. LWS2 is NOT. BUT – it helps. If u are a story completionist, yeah – BUT – more so it has needed central mastery points. THey become hard to get.

LWS3 is after HoT too; it is worth starting just to unlock areas. Can go back and finish other stories what I did. But Bloodstone Fen u can get ascended accessories of any stat. With Blood Rubies. It’s worth unlocking for that alone.

We have a established SWTOR guild, our sorta main MMO but GW2 is slowly becoming such. Small still, but quality > quantity n growing. Weeknights tend to be later in evening, and weekends noonish we have weekly missions then or soon after. And dungeons, etc.

Heyas Mere. I don’t want to step on Wolfie’s toes, FENX is a great guild. We’re similar only probably nuttier. PvE leaning, still getting things off ground in GW2 BUT been a guild for 10 years, in SWTOR as well (main MMO) but if you love nougat nutty centers then you can check our odd xtraordinary slackers guild thread. Being slackers, we don’t remove anyone for long periods UNLESS u never give any contact/year passes by. And even then, prob not :P And many are way too lazy to use TS3/voice comms Anyways, good luck.

Imo it’s simple – WH is superior support/buff/boons w/ CC. Focus is defensive/utility/condi clear – solo/selfish/survival. It offers no heals/boons, some CC/projectile.

If I am, an often am supportish, I easily go WH. It’s too good for the boon/heals for allies. Focus earth and air are the main reasons focus is so good; I mean, earth 5 come on, if I was roaming/small group or pure DPS focused I’d go D/F easily.

Everyone said great stuff. gear – PvP is it’s own stuff, just bring ur weapons.

And so – ascended – tbh – weapons. Priority to craft/loot. Accessories is gotten easily through other means, LWS3 and Laurel. Also elite weaps have ascended through collection. I wouldn’t stress about ascended armor/getting ASAP; it’s a long expensive road. For minimal stat gain (armor). The main reason for ascended is agony resistance in tier 4 Fractals. And WvW sure, infusions, but – it’s not mandatory.

IMO anyways – accessories and weapons will be great and shared among other chars.

ALSO GS – is NOT bad. It got buffed, it actually is pretty nice, BUT – right now other weaps > it a bit. I use GS in builds. Just sword/wh/axe etc. tend to out perform, plus GS is not good in condi which is more popular now.

Well… mesmer… sword, shield – when tanking. It also is pretty good at tanking (not JUST buffs) or else it wouldn’t be staple in Raids. Yeah Guardian/warrior clear heavy, swords, shields classic tanks. And does them well! Warrior seems easier but get Guardian know the blocks/aegis/buffs they have it’s imo easier than Warrior personally.

I don’t disagree w/ Justine, except the part they’d love on another class more. That is totally objective. I HATE warrior – that’s me though :P I appreciate the effort for guide! And you CAN be effective, I may trade some specialization, and choose more healer not try to be too much. I LOVE GS, but now sw/wh is better imo and kinda need staff for heals.

Yeah, ele support/heals, guard and well, sorta warrior can do “better” in frontline heal/support role. Again, they play differently so I disagree that you may like them better. I did try Ele same role; and personally ended up liking it over Druid. I use my shout trooper build instead for Druid, more small/roaming but funnnn. :P

But, go try man if u can make it work for you or others who DONT want to be ele, guard, etc. then awesome!

We meet the SMALL part. But it’s not the size, it’s what you do w/ it that… counts… :P SO! We are determining MISSION and DUNGEON time. Won’t be doing fractals/raids for a while. Do Teq, WBs a bit. Eventually more sPvP maybe some WvW but wont want to leave a WvW guild our focus atm is not just be less lazy :P

My guild, not all in GW2 as we’re from SWTOR – has 10 active females. More in past. Now, that’s also Star Wars; but recruiting here had 2 females join. It’s a big misnomer no females play MMOs these days. Now – most females I know like to play male chars. And their female chars aren’t 97% naked.

I like both sexes. I have Female Asura, Human, Sylvari – Male Norn, Charr – w/ a deleted male Sylvari and Asura. Sorry boys…

I’d venture esp a game like GW2 where it’s not all combat, there’s a good % of real females playing. I don’t know about 60/40 but definitely close, males will still dominate but not 97%. Which was an exaggerated number anyways I’m guessing.

Fractals tier 4 may be different, where agony infusions are a must, and ascended gear is needed. Raids – nah.

YES, weapon is primary ascended gear to get, has the most impact on DPS. Trinkets/accessories are easiest to get so may as well. Laurels or Bloodstone Fen/Ember Bay for rubies… you may be a mesmer needing boon boost so you actually may not want full ascended. Armor – a waste tbh, EXCEPT for agony infusions.

ANYWAYS – personally – for RAIDS – I wouldn’t make it a “omfg I MUST have this”. Weaps actually are far cheaper to make than armor. And you also have collections can get that way, or drops from Teq or other bosses. Honestly weap is the one thing I look for to be ascended but even that isn’t required.

Also, weaps and accessories can be shuffled amongst chars unlike exotics. W/o shared slots it can become tedious a bit but, it IS nice if say u use a zerker sword on 3 chars. Over making 3 ascended zerkers swords obv share it, likewise accessories.

I get when it’s story – personal – they want u to be able to do solo it. SWTOR had an option to choose a solo version to progress or go do the OPS/RAID version. I don’t see why they couldn’t do that when it comes down to the big dragon fights. I mean, DS mouth fight is so awesome IMO; felt a lot more satisfying to beat than Mordermoth himself. Zhaitan yeah – I won’t lie airship was cool. But, a let down after all the build up.

It’s all relative tho if they have ONE encounter for all w/o any options.

Short: We have an active SWTOR guild, which doesn’t help u here clearly BUT are making GW2 our next home for our longtime (since 2004 in SWG) goofy fun cupcake devouring nappy nap community of royal slackers. Many of us are new in GW2 too. We, in theory, are a chatty/sociable bunch (aka SWTOR) but in GW2 as said – we’re in that small awk phase of finding our feet. We like quality > quant. never will be a 200 person guild. But have to begin somewhere.

Also, for a slacker I write a dang lot :P Anyways, awesome pitch too me basically saying you’ll be disappointed. No wonder we’re slacking at the growth :P (<- quirky/goofy). Good luck man! Finding the right guild is tough!

I get you; you do what I like to do when not leveling story/solo. So – HoT runs, group stuff, WBs and dungeons. Yeah.

If you lean support/heals I would then get some HP. 500 is good, maybe even too much. Yeah, “it’s only open world PvE” but many scenarios where heals help a ton for a group – you can still get heal accessories to swap to if needed like, a smaller DS group, etc.

I have 2 staves – one w/ HP and one zerk. And accessories zerk and HP ones I swap between solo and support play. I sometimes go my old WvW armor set in HoT which is PVT/trooper as I still love shouts in PvE. BUT – anyways…

Point being as said – it’s easier to transition w/ zerk armor to solo and more group play where you want to support more. It’s cheap to get a magi/cleric staff if u didn’t take minstrel from Druid. And can get magi/cleric accessories via karma or TP. Easily will get u more than adequate HP to heal Open World PvE stuff. Put a transference sigil on staff… good to support. AND – slowly set yourself up to potentially heal in Raids. Depending what HP gear you get.

I miss GS; but sword/WH is > GS. STILL – preference sure. One thing – I love the direction you took this; but I will say the pre-patch shout trooper was A LOT less expensive to run. It was actually very appealing because of that and how fun/successful it was. This plays differently too with the boon style and weap changes. I still think the soldier version is good in this meta, but you really thought this through it’s almost a new type of build tbh it imo drastically changes the previous shout trooper.

Basically; I am poor and cannot get all these new stats and sigils :P But do you still think your older build maybe w/ a few adjustments is viable this meta? Maybe a poorman’s shout trooper :P

I assume many are tanking too; so herald and durability would > water.

Durability still has the issue of farming; albeit a little easier. But I mean if you have no lumps of aurillium may as well just grind for leadership or then go herald or water yeah.

Fun is relative; I enjoyed leveling my mesmer MUCH more than my ele, and I love ele. If u mean worth it end-game, Mesmer is not going away from meta just – don’t expect sword buff to make pwr mes a thing or DPS to be on par with other classes now. Still a boon/support class.

Ele is underrated a bit because they’re glassy and hard for n00bs to play well; w/ a nerf patch ago. Latest patch helped bring Ele up a bit, or maybe nerfs to other classes was it.

I cannot comment for PvP. But WvW and PvE yeah; ele’s are great in both.

Lynnie thanks! Shout Trooper is my fav build in WvW; and even open world PvE as support. One may argue with SotP nerf it’s LESS useful, but I disagree. I still love my shouts. But it maybe needs tweaking look forward to your changes!

WH is by far the best offhand in the game in all games in any time in any universe.

No, it is fun, the 5th skill I’m happy with; 4th, yeah it lacks, it’s cool animation, vuln stacks are a lot; but w/o WH CD trait it’s LONG and > compared to dagger/axe 4.

And, tho with the windbourne notes trait WH is imo nice, in PvP/WvW if you go Nature Magic u kinda need/should take evasive Purity. Thus, making WH still supbar to other offhands.

But these changes make Marksmenship and Call of The Wild trait the clear winner over WH itself.

I also lead the Xtraordinary Slackers guild thus another reason ele is not my main ‘cause it’s a lot of work! :P

I mainly do Staff; fire DPS and Support; love healing; and Staff seems great for heals but I hear dagger/WH is great heal/support too; but I’ve been uncertain to try that but w/ changes maybe dagger/x is fun now. I mean it was fun before! I think for DPS I split too much Condi and pwr but it’s fun to burn more and zerk has gotten stale on my Guardian.

Well there was a big bug fix that was fixed when Eles stacked, 56k-80k+ burn ticks if this wasn’t fixed it would have been broken in all game modes.

Just want to ask where I could find builds that has normal pve builds.

All I could find were WvW, PVP, Fractals and Raids

If you use the ones listed under “Fractals” on metabattle.com, you will be good. They are 100% PvE builds and work great everywhere.

I tend to sorta disagree; it’s a good start point but Fractals are very much hyper DPS focused; not everyone will run with Scholar Runes or needs to be full zerker in PvE, or avoid toughness.

I actually find some WvW builds very helpful for PvE too; some Vit in PvE is nice, I like some support there too depending class. There’s more variety builds in WvW/PvP over Raid/Fractals. That being said, you have to be able to see traits/skills chosen because it’s vs. players. If you cannot then yeah Raid/Fractals can be easier to understand for overall PvE.

That all being said – it ult is your choice in Open PvE. You can make it harder on yourself for sure running like a mix of gear/stats and a meh weapon, but still doable.

This mainly means no more full zerker full healing raids – and WvW/PvP is worse, well WvW, as PvP you get menders and HP raised much easier. I get why PvEers hate it more, it does force you into LESS diverse builds becuase u NEED HP so full magi or zealot debate is no longer a debate.

The OP did come out from under a bridge but I do agree ranger got some buffs peeps are overlooking or overshadowed by the nerfs to Druid heal AND the worst, SotP nerf.

SB is too new to see if it’s even useful or niche, at least the Devs finally tried, something we’ve asked for for – well before I even started playing.

GS buff is not overlooked it’s nice DPS increase, as a GS fan I love this.
WH – less of a buff in PvE, but PvP/WvW – yeahhhh.

They could have nerfed DH completely more than they did – we got off easy let’s be real. We’re not gutted like some other classes. Purification nerf WAS needed, heal base by half is a bit, but testing it it’s not as bad as I thought but then I run support w/ HP; the CD and cast time, .25 actually is a lot for interrupting . It does hurts but is not breaking.

I may be in minority; I know Druid heal nerfs in Raid tbh is the biggest issue as forced into HP gear/runes; tho zerk healing needed a nerf; already plenty used full magi and stuff, I get it, but I prepared myself for the druid nerfs. But I am like why SotP? That was a severe one.

Idk – SB – COULD be something; I doubt it, but could at least be a fun niche roaming thing. WH got a nice buff, devs really want to replace axe off-hand! Random GS buff, eh so much disappointment; some perks of ok cool but – eh. And they didn’t fix a lot of other things. I WILL SAY I appreciate the SB attempt hopefully it at least is okay now over trash.

As usual they buffed sigils that noone uses and nerf our survivability, spirit weapons still remain unchanged. I guess gaurd/dh is in good spot again? Lucky me cause I am playing Legion.

They BARELY nerfed our survivablity – compared to other classes, AND with all the whining pre patch for nerfs, DH got off easy… like, what really has changed w/ DH? yes purification – is not small nerf. But it’s not class breaking. I do agree about spirit weapons. Signet changes were meh but expected, I’m fine with changes I thought there shoulda been some DH trap/trait nerfs; but was afraid devs would gut it.

10/19 Patch – DEVS: “Oops we made a mistake with elementalist balance changes – everything you thought was buffed was actually meant to be a nerf. Apologies to the elementalist community for this error, we try to meet your expectations to provide the worst for your class and we almost failed to meet ours and your expectations.”

I’ll venture a stab at this, but I only have a wooden knife here.

If you get past the quirky goofiness or love that – we are small, newer to GW2; but an established community outside of it. We’re not lighting up the activity meter 24/7 right now; but are new as said; about community quality > quantity – and have cupcakes. We are maybe more west coast leaning currently, but have served international members too; so active play time idk how that jives with ya guys. Anyways, feel free to PM w/ questions or as is more likely, completely ignore this when u see my crazy thread and site and run fast away!

We are not gonna grow into 100 members anytime soon or at all; we’re fraking slackers :P I get that’s all possibly a turn off; hopefully the humor/attitude explained above will be appealing to a few.

My RP of slacker style and humor is in itself sorta an app lol, but we are family friendly, we have a few couples and even animals playing, I mean I am a lemur…

Druid base healing is being nerfed, HP itself shouldn’t be. In fact, unless they specifically target Ele healing abilities; this helps ele healers if more level base with druid.

Honestly the devs won’t further nerf a class that’s been bottle behind neck slammed to the ground; they just may continue to leave them lying there to bleed :P

So, little to no changes/buffs OR nerfs to Ele. Which depending on other class nerfs, just leaves ele meh as is now – depending play mode. I guess.
