Problems with Decap Engi:
1. 2 knockbacks with 15 (12 traited) sec cd with no cast time don’t allow for counterplay , its mere stability rotation, or prediction to dodge it, impossible to dodge on purpose.
2. Tankiness against both physical and condition damage through armor/heal stacking and automated response.
Possible solution (I honestly think one of those would be enough, preferably the second one, nerfing automated response , its simple, doesnt require much work and was requested anyway):
1. Add casttime to flamethrower and rifle knockback, stuns/knockbacks should be avoidable imo and not instant. 1/2 sec is enough, you might need to change the animations accordingly.
2. Remove the ability of one of those. Easiest and best way would be to nerf automated response (which was requested for other reasons anyway), so that necros and spirit rangers can counter decap engi.

As the title says! I was randomly asking around in mapchat and saw that there is a demand, so I decided to do this a bit more organized.
What is my goal and what do I offer?
I offer you personal coaching, whether you are a whole team, a single member of a team, or a soloq player. That includes advice on various 1v1’s, rotations, what you should do at any given moment in a game, builds, tricks, basically every bit of knowledge I have acquired since I started playing pvp in pre release.
Every case is individual obviously, so where needed I will provide 1v1 practice with myself and maybe some volunteering friends of mine and give advice for improvement based on that.
I just want to be part of the teaching process for GW2: some people wrote guides, some people made videos and I would like to make this.
What qualifies me?

Obviously I am not on a top tier team like cm (RIP) or 55 hp monks, but if they don’t bother doing this I am the next best choice.
My leaderboards bests were something like top 20 Teamq (top 50 when it was released initially and when it was reset the first time) and top 15 soloq, for some reason gw2shack.info isn’t showing that though. In the past I subbed for teams like CM, VOTF, Denial and ESL.
What is my target demography?
I would recommend anyone that isn’t top 300 soloq and top 150 teamq to consider this.

The lower you are the more I can teach you obviously and the more impactful my advice will be. The numbers differ obviously and are only a approximation, it really depends on where you lack, mechanical skill (I can help with that but not a lot) or tactical knowledge/rotations/builds/combos/duel tactics etc. (where I can help through my experience by quite a lot).

To stabilize the demand for my capabilities in terms of time investment I am gonna do this for ingame gold.
Also that will help me to motivate myself and get closer to my personal goals :P

But I’m curious as to why we don’t see a play by play + color caster (someone with extensive game knowledge like helseth) combo that often (ESL being a weekly tournament, that doesn’t have that kind of combination). It is either because no one wants to do the color casting job, or because whoever is in charge of the decision doesn’t let anyone else than blu + sireph (or jebro) do it.
I still remember the glorious days of the TP invitational with so many active teams participating… Well, we won’t get that back unfortunately.
So, after seeing this topic I quickly checked the video. I have to say that I agree that the current shoutcasting isn’t close to optimal and I’d much rather prefer a more analytical approach and/or more humorous one. The problem I see is that there isn’t really anyone willing to do it, who is more fit for the job. If I’m wrong on that one and there really is someone interested in casting e.g. the weekly ESL, then hes doing a poor job at promoting himself. I’d recommend starting to get into the shoutcaster program by submitting some video of your work (u could set up a casted scrim, or analyse vod’s).
There are quite a few requirements though, so thats why some potential casters are holding back. I for example, would like to cast again, but the only thing I can bring to the table is the knowledge of tactics and high lvl plays. My English isn’t fluent enough and my casting in general isn’t overly good. I can’t stream myself either. So I’d imagine others have similar problems with getting into casting.
Edit: I want to add, that I still respect the current shoutcasters for investing time into doing this without getting anything back.

Edit: the tldr “or all is vain” doesn’t actually have a meaning and is just a joking reference to the most popular thread in this forum of all times.
So usually after a patch we get 1 or 2 minor patches that deal with bugs that occur in the new living story. Is it possible for bugs that affect the PvP balance, to get the same treatment? Otherwise it kinda feels like “PvP players are second class citizens” all over again.
Examples of the Problem:
- the ridiculously long time it took to fix Confounding Suggestions bug
- still prevalent warrior offhand sword block bug
- lots more in the past, those are the 2 recent ones I remember.
tldr: pls giv hotfix for pvp or all is vain.
Had Lags the past days as well, now that I read it, pretty sure it was only on forest as well.
Like super heavy lag spikes with 5sec freezes during half the game.
Will make sure to do the ip command when it happens again.
I agree with the dhumfire change, just for the sake of increasing counterplay, whether or not it ruins the viability of necro cant be said, because it is relative to the viability of the other prof. and we don’t know all the changes yet.
If there was a better pvp MMO out there I would play it, but there isn’t, sadly.

If the described scenario is true: You didnt actually get stability before u got feared, its just looked like it on your client side, because of lag between you and the server, for the necro it looked like he feared you before u got stability and for the server as well. Ofc thats not 100% sure just my observation, since similar things happened a lot back in the days, like you get hit by immo although u dodged it and actually get a dodge while immobilized.
Thanks for the tip but that option is actually slower than normal casting. For example when you play hammer warrior you cant keep your target in a stunchain with hammer 4 into burst skill, cause your burst skill will be a couple milliseconds slower with that option.
Just as above, does anyone know where I can access the appropriate files for that / how I can change my mouse cursor appearance.

I don’t care if I get gold, I just hoped it would give an incentive to PvE players to play PvP and that would increase the population and viewer numbers. The only feature that does that in the next patch will be the lvling Tomes (maybe).
More than 4 teamqs / hour is impossible, If u have a decently high rank its not more than 3 / hour. I really don’t care about gold, but I doubt this will bring more people to sPvP.

I dont think ele will be viable, if u are talking about high to top lvl sPvP.
Two essential traits, the perma vigor one and the boons on attunement change one are being moved to master tier, so you cant get them together anymore.
So any build that is similar to the ones right now, with 30 arcana, will be a lot weaker.
If anyone figures out some magical build without more than 10 into arcana then maybe, but I just don’t see it coming. Also if u think about viability in that environment u need to think about what role the ele would fulfil. Maybe u will say the diamond skin trait will be strong in 1v1 vs full condi classes, but how would you ever fight 1v1, only if u played one of the outside points alone. But ele is useless for that since it has 0 mobility, u won’t even have swiftness on attunement swap anymore, in teamfights u will just run away with super slow speed and get melted by everything.
Maybe something with mainhand dagger, but that was never that strong, but thats the only way I see it working. It depends on teamfights usefulness, and 1v1 matchups if there is a decent teamfight build that has good mobility and deals with warriors 1v1 maybe, but yeah thats not very likely.

There is not neccessarily a need for the devs to normalize character models, if tournament organizers really cared about it then they could just put it into the rules, e.g. asura race is banned, or ever player needs to play a male human (many possibilities).
Your logic as I see it:
I am loosing a lot >>> must mean my teammates are bad >>> but why am I matched with bad people, although I’m really good? >>> must be because matchmaking sucks… yeah… that… makes sense…
They still have the data, they could, if they want to, reward it later, when they have some rewards in place.
Ima just write this and see what happens.
Have you looked into increasing the number of games you need to play to be displayed on the leaderboards? 10/11 is too little since a winning streak puts you on rank 1 and it is hard for a player who has a high win percentage, but didn’t get a winning streak at the start to catch up, if not impossible as seen with the soloQ leaderboards.
If you haven’t looked into it, I beg you to bring it up to the whole team and discuss it, since the ladder reset is the perfect moment to implement that change.

P.S. I suggest something between 30 to 50 games, or alternatively, if you feel this would discourage players from playing since it takes longer to see results on the leaderboards, implement it so it displays you not after 11 games, but after a certain amount of losses.
E.g. 5 losses needed to be displayed. For the regular player it means the same amount of games as before, for very good or very lucky players (or both) it means they have to truly show how good they are by playing enough games to show that this wasn’t a lucky streak, but skill.
I hope you understand the idea behind it and I can’t think this hurts anyone and it actually doesn’t give an disadvantage to the very good players, even if it looks like it on the first glance.
Edit: another P.P.S.: I realized it would be helpful to merge the 2 ideas of mine, e.g. 5 losses OR 30-50 games to be displayed, since some teams actually don’t lose that often, especially if they play on off hours.

Loosing rank position for winning isn’t broken, you actually didn’t loose MMR, its just someone got more MMR than you now, despite you winning, possible through this broken ladder decay and/or playing more games/higher quality games in the same time frame and winning as well.
Nonetheless Ladder Decay is broken and implementation was just wrong, I guess it’s a manpower issue again here.
Edit: Didn’t look at this example, dunno how that happened with Click rising over Zym, without having played any games.

Since it is a core feature in many other games I can’t imagine it being that hard, although being an MMO it could actually be, if there is no infrastructure supporting it.
I am more concerned about MLG. I mean why the kitten do they force/let them play 4v5, they should either made them surrender or find a sub, but not play it through, that was super unprofessional.
Hey my name is Fixi and I am an avid watcher of everything gw2 pvp related, including the latest mlg tournament.
I think that MLG showed again, why a “pause” feature in Custom Arena is so important.
Some of the most important games were decided, because of DC’s and the tournament organizers can’t do anything about it, since rules regarding DC’s can be abused easily.
I didn’t see every game since it was so late already in EU, but DEN vs NN and CC vs GoodFights was decided by DC. Someone might argue that in some cases they would have won regardless, but it is undeniable, that DC’s had a huge impact on those games and the tournament result overall.
I don’t know how hard/ time consuming the implementation of such a “pause” feature is, but I can’t stress enough how important it is and I hope other players agree with me.
For anyone that doesn’t know what I mean with “pause” feature:
Basically like in SC2 or LoL, either admins or players should be able to press “pause” during any time in the game (only in Custom Arenas, its debatable if u wan’t that in ladder games). After that pause no one can move, points aren’t being generated, cooldowns don’t tick, damage doesn’t go off, etc. everything freezes basically.
So in case of a DC someone can quickly press pause, probably the team that has the DC since they notice immediately through TS. Admins can stop the pause, if they decide, that there is no problem, or that they don’t wanna wait on the dc’ed player anymore, alternatively the enemy players can cancel the pause as well, but are probably obligated not to through certain tournament rules. This feature is core on other competitive games, to solve the issues we have atm in gw2.
Who would have thought, that such a system could be broken with such a low population /facepalm
