why level 80

Downleveling scales your stats (in accordance with the strength of your gear) to what it would be at X level.

In a level 20 zone, a level 20 player with level 20 blue gear is stronger than a level 60 player with level 40 blue gear. This is because the level 20 player has gear for his level, although it isn’t the best gear (green), it’s still pretty good. The level 60 player has blue gear which is 2 tiers under the best (yellow) and the gear is 2/3 of his level, thus not giving him full benefit.

When getting downleveled, it dynamically changes your stats by applying a % chance. It figures out the percentage by comparing the Best in Slot of both levels and trying to balance it out. Of course, you’re still going to get some excess stats when getting downleveled, but it’s still a pretty good system.

If you were to progress past level 80, but weren’t able to get higher gear, you’d weaken over time (a level 180 player with level 80 gear would be ridiculously weak, relying only on base stats instead of stats from gear to actually kill mobs).

[snip]

Well, I didn’t know it worked that way—however, I don’t believe it would be difficult to add some logical math/condition to prevent this phenomenon.

Which removes the whole purpose of the dynamic part of the code.

Ambient slayer is something you can do while playing any part of the game except akitten town.

So is anything else.

This topic has already been discussed with Legendaries vs Jumping Puzzles. Legendaries give you 10 achievement points, but in working towards it, you’ve attained more than just 10 achievement points. (500 dungeon tokens alone would give you some achievement points, not to mention map completion etc.) If you, however, choose to purchase a full-blown legendary, then you don’t really deserve all the excess AP that come with working towards a Legendary as you’ve gotten AP while working towards the money to buy it (unless you buy it with real money in an illegal way)… in which case you don’t really deserve anything other than the 10 AP for having a Legendary.

Just saying.

It’s still stupid “moon logic”. Achievement points have nothing to do with what you’ve earned financially. They’re about what you achieved (clue is in the name you see). The harder the achievement, the more points you should get. This is pretty basic stuff.

Yes, and so for 10,000 kills, you get more achievement points than with a single jumping puzzle. It’s true. Try it and look at your Achievement Points before and after (don’t do anything else until you get 10,000 wvw kills).

While killing 10k players you’re getting massive loot rewards, potential dailies/monthlies and a lot more.

Sure, there are daily jumping puzzles, but you’re not going to get that more than once for each unique jumping puzzle finish (if you even get it when you complete a unique jumping puzzle).

Ok. Then the Ambient Slayer achievement should drop a guaranteed precursor given that ambient creatures don’t drop anything at all ever.

Don’t be ignorant. The achievement points relate to how hard something is to achieve. 1 JP is incredibly easy. 10k kills in WvW are not. But there are several equally incoherent examples. At the end of the day, just take it for what it is. Arbitrary bonuses for completely mostly equally arbitrary goals.

Nope because they’ve segmented various parts of what makes a mage a great class, each segment is the lesser for it. My ideal class would be a mixture of ele and necro. They could solve the issue by having dual classes like GW1 did.

And then make PvP broken and WvW require players to have specific combinations.

Um this has pretty much happened anyway and other games manage to do it.

Really? I never knew that I was forced to run my Mesmer with a specific secondary class or build in WvW. Never got that memo.

Also, if we were to play as the gods, it would most likely override our skills (unless we played the god of our profession, which would cause overlap and nullify engineers).

If the Abbadon fractal was to come out it would either be players playing as Margonites or against Margonites as they are trying to destroy the Temples of the Gods. If we play as Margonites, we’ll most likely be fighting with Jadoth, whereas if we play against them, the final fight will probably be against Jadoth. We wouldn’t see any of the Gods as that would cause our PC’s to become blind (player character, not personal computer) if not something worse.

10,000 WvW kills will reward you more than 1 jumping puzzle, both in achievement points and in the gains along the way.

Why? Even if you finish the 10,000 WvW kills in one day, you still got a monthly out of it, meaning you just got 20 points instead of the max possible points off of a single jumping puzzle, which would be 11.

Then, you have WvW Experience, Loot Bags (which, over the course of 10,000 kills, will drop well over what you would get off of a Jumping Puzzle chest), WvW Chests (which, over the course of 10,000 kills worth of exp, will drop well over what you would get off of a Jumping Puzzle chest), and Power of the Mist points (which isn’t really a tangible reward).

Would you like to get 1 achievement point for brushing your teeth at night, or does it have to be 10 to match all the standardized 10 points?

And then make PvP broken and WvW require players to have specific combinations. Not to mention the massive power overload (not even creep at that point) to the extent of forcing new tiers of enemies which won’t be noob or pug friendly, which would cause the game to become more elitist since only the elitist would run the new content and all players would try, but most would just fail.

Story-wise, I’d vote for Ellen Kiel (and that’s what I’m gonna do, probably).
Bonus-wise, I’m indifferent. I neither need cheaper waypointing nor BL keys.
Fractal-wise, I’m more interested in the Reactor, so again, Ellen Kiel.

Seems like a done deal, right?

But then my boyfriend pointed out something this morning that I hadn’t considered. The Abaddon fractal might come with new models/textures while the Thaumanova story wouldn’t require them. But I would like to see new models and textures. It’s still speculation, of course.

Anyway, before you lot welcome me to the dark side: I’m still going to vote for Ellen; however, if Gnashblad wins, I’m going to have fun with the new content anyway. And PS: waiting for him to d evil things and eventually removing him from his position will be fun, too.

If you mean new models and textures for the gods themselves, I will be really disappointed.

As WoodenPotatoes (lore guy) pointed out in his video, no mortal can look at the gods without going blind, and that is what made them mysterious. You can’t look at them.

There was only one mortal who could see them and that was Malchor the Sculptor.

So, I’m torn between wanting this fractal or not. Battle with a god sounds fun, but remember that the fractals is a small thing that you repeat over, and over, and over again.

To battle with a god should be special, and not something you do over, and over, and over again that you don’t even want to do the fractal anymore.

This also leaves me wondering if ArenaNet remember things like these, that the gods can’t be seen, and that the fight was over the Crystal Seas, and that makes me wonder how the fractal will be done if you can’t see the gods.

There are of course the avatars, this might be a solution.

And also:
“It was here that Abaddon and his Margonites challenged the power of the Five True Gods, and here that the other gods smote the God of Secrets down, imprisoning him and his following in a Realm of Torment.”

Margonites….

Margonites which were just seafaring humans at the time. They didn’t turn into demonic beings until they were imprisoned in the Realm of Torment, where Abbadon’s magic seeped into them.

Hi. I was wondering if there will be any mage/warlock class. Because I feel that the game really lacks the mystery and the variety of skills they can add. The ele is too much using substantial skills and the mesmer is the opposite. Why can’t there be a classic mage with classic skills like fireballs, illusions, magical seals, calling mythical creatures healing, teleporting summoning storms and such.

Because all the professions use a school of magic, they are all technically mages (read the lore of GW1 and GW2).

But Elementalists cast a classic fireball with both scepter and staff, they can summon creatures, weapons, Glyph of Storms summons elemental storms, they can teleport as well as a gap closer, water elemental heals, they also heal, boon, etc

Mesmers do illusions, seals, create clones, teleport, portal, etc

etc.

I was thinking about this the other day and technically Engineers and Warriors don’t use magic. All the other classes, however, do. I mean, yes, Warriors can channel fire into their skills, and then you also get into the problem of racial skills (tell me that asking for God’s powers isn’t magic) etc, etc, but for the most part those are the two professions that don’t use Magic. I was also thinking Ranger, but their attack channel spirits of the wild and other magical beast stuffs. And don’t tell me that Thieves don’t use magic. They can shadowstep, among other things.

They were created by the Asura PC, but they’re in the Shiverpeaks because of Thaumanova.

What’s the source on this? The wiki doesn’t list any connections between the two and I’d like to verify this info.

Its conjecture, but apparently the infinity ball storyline for the asura personal story involves meeting an alternate version of yourself who took over his/her Tyria by inventing and using those steam machine golem creatures. So we’re assuming that the ones pulled here were pulled from that reality. Thus, they’re created by the Asura PC from an evil alternate reality. *cough*SeaOfSorrows*cough*.

(To my friends in SoS, I kid, I kid.)

Yes, I’ve played that personal story (one of my favorite), but I was questioning the link between the Shiverpeak steam creatures and Thaumanova (maybe the italics aren’t that noticeable). If I remember correctly, the Shiverpeak steam creatures spawn from Steam Portals, not chaos energy. If there is a link, I’d like to know where to find it.

The only future that we know of (slash alternate reality) where there are Steam Creatures is the one that occurs from that personal storyline. The Thaumanova Reactor creates rips in the space and time fabric (slash continuum). Unless the Steam Creatures are coming from multitudes of futures where they took over and are getting sent back to take over our reality (through some crazy insane inventions), then the most reasonable link would be the Thaumanova Reactor. Also, the Thaumanova reactor didn’t affect just Metrica Province. (See: Jumping Puzzle in Ascalon).

The PC of Nightfall also gazed upon Kormir. And, unless Melandru visited them with an avatar, the Quaggans gazed upon Melandru.

But, yes, I agree that we wouldn’t be seeing the Gods, we would either be fighting with or against Margonites (which would still be human Margonites) since this was before Abbadon had been imprisoned in the Realm of Torment. In fact, the options of how the Fall of Abbadon is going to occur is very limited. We can be Margonites fighting to destroy the temples of the other gods. We can be champions of the other gods fighting against the Margonites and possibly ending with us fighting Jadoth. There are a lot of possibilities for the specifics, but the story is already known.

With the Thaumanova Reactor, it was an experiment by the Inquest. This opens up a lot of possibilities. Not only that, but there is rumor of Destroyers being there (as stated in Rata Sum. Some say it was caused by Inquest, others say there were Destroyers there, but since the experiment was being held BY the Inquest, there’s no saying who’s right or wrong). It could be you play as Kudu’s pawns and try to prevent the Reactor from exploding as experiment after experiment go wrong, ultimately fighting some sort of Megadestroyer or empowered Inquest. (It would be interesting to fight an Inquest infused with dragon energy to the extent of becoming a dragon champion.)

Also, the lore of the Thaumanova Reactor isn’t just limited to Asura. Steam creatures in the Shiverpeaks? That’s due in part to the Reactor explosion (and, in other parts, due to the Asura PC with a specific storyline). And in another part of the world, Ascalon has a jumping puzzle that is, in it’s entirety, an extension of the Reactor Fallout. Who knows, we might be fighting creatures from another universe in that fractal if it’s before/as/after the fallout.

They’re re-releasing SAB, but not soon. The Molten Jetpack wouldn’t because, as stated before, the Molten Weapons Facility will only return as a fractal, and not an actual dungeon where you can get rewards.

Halloween is a yearly festival, which means that it will occur again this Halloween, which means that we’ll most likely get the halloween skins again. (Almost all of them are craftable and technically still craftable. There is just no influx of materials to continue crafting them which is why it’s not cheap to craft them.) If any of the Halloween skins were to not re-appear, it would be the ones coming out of the Black Lion Chests, but that is highly unlikely as well, as it would probably cause them to release more Halloween skins instead of re-releasing skins that have decent demand (and they can re-release them in BLC’s).

I’m going to assume that the price will lower when Arenanet re-releases it, if they plan on doing so, which I think they will some way or another, but not in the near future. (I mean, they are planning on re-releasing Sentinel/Azurite soon™).

Seeking professional help for profession help

Esplen.3940

The most mobile professions are the squishiest. However, if you dislike magic/casting in it’s entirety, you’re pretty much stuck with Ranger, Warrior, and Engineer.

KEEP IN MIND, though, that GW2 has a very fluid combat system. Unless you’re playing in Earth Attunement as an Elementalist, your cast-times are ridiculously short and smooth (with almost all spells allowing mobility while casting).

And, while the Scholar archetype is very squishy in regards to their base armor level, they end up being very, very tanky. Here’s why:

Mesmers have massive amounts of damage mitigation. From reflecting projectiles back to enemies, to simply evading everything on a 20% uptime, they can seriously slow down the hurt they receive. (They also have invis to make you lose sight of them, albeit a lot of low duration invis.)

Necromancers have a very high base health pool. They also have a secondary health bar as their profession mechanic. One of the standard builds with them revolves around getting a lot of Toughness in addition to other stats (essentially armor) making them a very tanky profession when played so. (They have little access to lifesteal, but they do have some. Note: Lifesteal in GW2 isn’t very much compared to any other game. It’s like a bonus little heal versus actual sustain.)

Elementalists have ridiculously high mobility. A good Elementalist can run full-squish and never die (they might not get a kill, but they have the capacity to escape).

Currently, people want: Mesmers, Guardians and Warriors. However, this is mainly for the max-level dungeon runs (which will most likely be nerfed by the time you get there).

I would highly suggest making one of every profession. I don’t care if you don’t want to be a caster, don’t like the color pink/purple, don’t want to be flamboyant, or don’t like the idea of using this weapon versus that. Just make one of every profession (hear me out, I know you only have 5 character slots).

From there, play the tutorial (as slow or as fast as you want, you’ll need to do it on all your characters), and then head to the Heart of the Mists (accessible from the Crossed Swords at the top left of your UI).

There, you’ll have access to every skill and weapon for free. You can play around with every class to figure out how/what you want to play. Fear not, although it is a PvP zone, there is no PvP until you want there to be. It’s simply a giant lobby to setup for PvP, which is why you have everything unlocked. Play around with skills and attacks against the Training Golems. That way you will see what you do and do not like.

When you’re done, go back to PvE and enjoy your new profession.

Final note: if you join a guild, which you should, they most likely won’t care what profession you are. If they do, leave them and join another. Playing dungeons with a guild is much better than playing dungeons as a PUG.

I say this with 7 months of PUGing (the past 7 months, I used to run with guilds in 2012, but I stopped due to the fact that I tend to cause or worm into drama).

A good look and example of this is when GW2 was first released. There were multiple patches in any given day, to the point that people complained about all the patches that were fixing things. Then, Arenanet slowed down because the major things were polished/fixed. People suddenly started to complain that no patches were happening (with only one major patch a month and weekly maintenance).

This. The changes aren’t set in stone yet (I mean, they’re most likely going to happen, but the actual changes themselves aren’t set in stone), so worrying about them now is like worrying about humanity ending in the future. It’s going to happen, but it’s not anywhere near happening so stop worrying so much about it (although for humanity slowing down how much we abuse our planet is a different matter that shouldn’t be ignored).

Back from the tangent, all I can say is to just not worry about what is going to happen. Arenanet will figure something out that will not punish players that have MF sets.

People suggesting that if we do not like jumping puzzles, then we should just not do them, are missing the fundamental issue at stake, achievement points. Arena.net should take away the points, then those who like them can do them, those who don’t, won’t get penalised for having less dexterity.
Anyway, I realise they are not going away even if many don’t like them. I suggest a compromise:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Jumping-Puzzle-improvement-so-more-enjoyable/first#post2456230

You’re looking at Achievement Points backwards. You aren’t entitled to achievement points. You are awarded them when you earn them. To my knowledge, there’s not even a max AP score. Every day you can earn more achievement points doing your daily.

There is a current max that changes each day based on dailies/monthlies and then tacking on all the other achievements. However, this cap is unattainable due to people having missed dailies and, in the current lifespan of this game, the bulk of PvP and WvW achievements are impossible to complete all the way.

I’m all for changing them around, but removing them actually hinders the game. While running around in WvW, there are tells to figure out what profession you’re going against.

First, you can check their weapons.

Second, you can check their armor.

Third, you can check their buffs (and signets/mantras/whatever).

Fourth, you can check a few tells. If you get past the first three and still can’t tell what they are, you can ask yourself:
Do they have elements flying around their wrist? (Elementalist)
Do they have a backpack? (Engineer)
Do they have Aegis? (Guardian)

Actually, the fourth is usually one of the first things you’ll check for, then you check through the rest of the list. Occasionally you’ll go against someone who may look like one profession but is another (Shortbow can be Thief or Ranger. Hard to tell if they use no signets and have their pet stowed.) (Necro and Mesmer use Staff and if they have no signets it’s hard to tell them apart.)

With that in mind, the hobo-sack IS really big and can be toned down.

Luckily, there is a stat floor, meaning you’re not going to be weaker than a naked level X player, but that’s not a very good comparison. I mean, would you rather be stronger than a level 80 naked player or a level 80 player in Exotics (current Best in Slot)?

There is also a stat ceiling (only when being upleveled) which can be found by doing specific things. Getting upleveled to level 80 gives you a stat ceiling of 2500 (bypassed with buffs and signets). A level 80, however, can pass the stat cap of 2500 (however it isn’t possible to reach 2500 from gear alone, which is an advantage upleveled players get).

Windows 7 comes with a tool called Snipping Tool. If you’re using Windowed or Windowed Borderless, you can use this to grab a section or the entirety of your screen. Not sure if it comes with Windows 8.

You get one a day. Until you login for 7 days (after the release of Achievement Chests), it’ll keep showing chests under 3000 .

Why 7 days?

7 chests: 100, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000.

The fractal chosen will be a permanent addition to fotm.

Then people will vote for whichever has the fastest cleartime. Lore doesn’t mean junk after the first time through.

Good luck figuring out how difficult 2 fractals which haven’t even begun being built are.

Note that with 6 ambients every 25 seconds it will take you about 6 hours to complete any achievement.

5000 kills / (6 ambients per 25 seconds) / (60 seconds per minute) / (60 minutes per hour)
5000 / (6 / 25) / 60 / 60 = 5.78703704 hours.

why level 80

But Pure Heart, that would make attaining skill points ridiculously hard after level 80.

Also, it would end up making you get weaker as you played longer as you would require gear at your appropriate level to maintain your strength as you will get downleveled, but your gear will stay at level 80.

The human gods have essentially forsaken the humans (although they will lend them some power, as seen by the human racial skills). It’s not right comparing the human gods with the norn gods as it’s two separate entities (although the Quaggan god and the Human Gods are comparable as the Quaggan god Mellagan has a very high probability of being the human god Melandru).

And you can’t just replace the gods like that. Otherwise the gods are always all around us aiding and speaking to us, as seen by the Eternal Alchemy (similar to the chaos theory on a very large-scale).

This seems backwards

Steam creatures? Tied to the Thaumanova Reactor

Actually, they’re tied to something else…

They were created by the Asura player character if they picked the infinity ball story arc… or, more precisely – their evil alternate universe self, who created the army of steam golems in order to (succesfully) conquer tyria, and who then tries mobilise an invasion of “our” tyria for an encore… but fails upon discovering that the only person who can stand against them is… themself.

While that is true, the reason for their existence (out of the storyline quest) in the open-world (namely in the Shiverpeaks) is due to the reactor explosion.

They were created by the Asura PC, but they’re in the Shiverpeaks because of Thaumanova.
