I think the reason why it’s not implemented (yet) is because back items weren’t a thing upon release (other than WvW backpacks) and I think they were still hoping to do Capes, which is sounding less and less likely as time goes on.

In response to Dhar.

  • Gear grind is a joke in GW2. BiS (best in slot) has never been something hard to obtain in the Guild Wars universe, and in GW2 it’s the same. Even with all these new, daunting Ascended items, it’s still easy (albeit time-consuming) and nobody really cares if you’re running exotics instead of Ascendeds(1).
  • Yes. Although you’re missing traits and skills, but if you zerg it’s not too bad.
  • No. You can opt to buy them with gold which does not involve RNG at all.

Answer to your final question:
Technically, all 3 of them are both positive and negative since you have left. Regardless, you should try the game since you’ve left instead of relying on the forum (which is a small minority of players, mostly naysayers) to decide for you. If you’re incapable of that, then I’m glad that you’re not going to play the game.

Ascended(1): The difference between Ascended and Exotics is 10% difference. This 10% stat difference is 10% stat difference when comparing both items to a white item of the same level (80, because all Ascendeds are level 80), the actual stat difference between an Ascended and an Exotic is a 6% stat difference, meaning that you’re only really going for 1-3 stat point difference.

There's nothing legendary about it.

Did you toss in the exotics or sell them back?

I’ve been throwing in rares, and I’ve thrown in 200+ rares (~50+ tosses) and have sold all my exotics which in turn allow me to throw in more.

I purchased 150 rares to use and sold my exotics which allowed me to buy 150 more. It’s an endless cycle for me right now and I’m enjoying myself.

If you truly had that much gold, why not just buy the Precursor?

The bottom skill is the first in the chain. Some of these chains are auto-activate, other are sequence skills.

Examples:

Your example: Slash —> Kick —> Pounce —> Slash —> etc
Automatically goes through the attacks and repeats itself. Hence a chain skill

Another example: Mimic —> Echo
If Mimic connects, then Echo will be available. Hence a sequence skill

What Im saying is that we need better drop system on bosses.
Or all that excites you is seeing an exotic from trash in 7th CoF run?
Necro links exotic medium gear which will be sold for 4 gold on TP
GZGZGZ!!!
Peak of excitement….

I dunno man, when I get 2 superior sigils of smothering, a superior rune of baelfire, 2 exotics, 4 rares, and 2 lodestones in 5 runs, it stops being the peak of excitement and becomes “oh kitten is that mesmer running MF or is he just being lucky?”

Discussion: Comparing Between Sword & Scepter

in Mesmer

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

I think the main problem is that people don’t understand the usefulness of Scepter.

Scepter 1, with pseudo-zerk gear can hit as hard as Sword auto-attacks. Now, the DPS is slightly lower due to attack speeds(duh), but it hits nearly as hard. Most people compare skill #2 with #2 and #3 with #3.

That’s where it gets weird. I prefer to compare Blurred Frenzy with Confusing Images and Illusionary Counter with Illusionary Leap.

Blurred Frenzy will deal ~5-8k before boons.
Confusing Images will deal ~5-8k before boons.

Blurred Frenzy will give you 2.5s of evade.
Confusing Images will slap 5 stacks of confusion.

They’re both AoE (one is a beam, the other is a cone).

Illusionary Block, it doesn’t deal too much damage if it connects, but it does apply Torment which, even with no condition damage, is still really easy damage.

Illusionary Leap doesn’t deal too much damage but also acts as a stunbreaker, an immobilize and a leap finish.

My MAIN problem with Scepter is that it’s the “one-handed condi mainhand” but the auto attack isn’t condi-based. I’d rather lose the clone on auto and get some sort of condition application on the auto attack than anything else, and I’m sure people will disagree with me saying that they like the clone. I’d much rather just have staff clones out, when I’m running condi.

Using the living story’s logic, it’s time to remove all of the risen from the game and the entire story quest. Zhaitan has been gone for ages. Make everything limited and you don’t have a game anymore.

The living story is the GAME’S personal storyline.

Zhaitan/Risen/Orr are all part of YOUR (individual character’s) personal storyline.

Once you start differentiating, it makes more sense.

YOU can’t repeat YOUR personal storyline.

THE GAME can’t repeat THE GAME’S personal storyline.

Back on topic, read what Conncept said in regards to the state of the game.

Sure, there aren’t many more “endgame” things to do, because the endgame in GW2 is what you want it to be. I guess a good way of looking at it is it’s a pseudo-RP endgame setting.

Here we go again .. the dungeon is too hard . it’s too easy it’s not for casuals .. oh yes it is .. OMG. Dungeons continue to be a divisive issue in GW2. I don’t understand how Anet hasn’t figured out a solution to this problem. It would certainly make everyone a lot happier and more inclined to continue playing the game. Have the devs ever commented on having a regular mode and hard mode for story dungeons? This has been suggested so many times.

I realize that it will be impossible to please every single person when it comes to this issue. But it would go a long way to satisfying the majority of players.

They had hard and easy modes on SAB and the people that were unable to complete the hard mode complained that they didn’t want to do easy mode, but they weren’t able to do hardmode.

As for the person who posted right above this, I’m going to go and say that nothing will ever be perfectly balanced for every class. If it was, it wouldn’t be interesting. Also, mesmers are op in the new dungeon, but people don’t notice that. Why? Because Mesmers aren’t superbly party-friendly players. I’m able to solo the boss fights if I make few mistakes (yes I can make mistakes unlike other professions), but that’s my class design, not my skill as a player (although it does come in to help me in pinches).

Soo, what's changed?

I’m sorry, but I absolutely DESPISE the “OH NO IT’S TO HARD FOR CASUALS!!1!!1!” belief.

No, it is not.

First: Many of the more “casual” members of my guild have in fact beat it, multiple times in fact.

Second: How exactly are we defining casual anyways? Everyone seems to have their own opinion of what casual is.

I dunno, I’m a casually hardcore player (ironic) that is very competent at this dungeon. I can carry pugs in groups (and have). This dungeon is easy as long as you’re able to play the game. I was able to run with 2 people who had no idea what they were doing and was able to get Unfriendly Skies twice with them. They both died multiple times in both boss fights.

Also, I ran with 3 people and we were able to get Unfriendly Skies (we had all the achievements so dunno what else we “got”). With the 3 people run it was 2 guards and 1 mes (I’m the mes). We finished with no wipes, but we all downed a total of about 6 times (all of us together, not each). We ended the dungeon with 2 of us still maintaining 25 stacks from weapons. The third person downed mid-boss battle after taking a shadowstep and flourish (both his and my fault. He could have aegis/moved, and I was intending to reflect that shot).

Note: That was technically a pug run as I had never ran with them before.

my answer: there has been nothing done to the game since i left except for dragon bash….AKA one of the content updates (for the living world) that only last for a short time and disappear forever and ever. people dont wana have a small limited time to play something…..ANET needs to stop adding things just to take them away….

one more thing, i did log on for d bash, but i only did it for 1 day…….didnt keep me any longer than 1 day….well less than 1 day.

…..any more brilliant things you want to say, so i can respond to them?

After dragon bash they did a major trait/game update in addition to adding even more content. Not only does the major trait/game update affect PvP, WvW and PvE, but the new content includes a dungeon which forces most players to change the meta of how THEY play the game.

Aka, you can still run Zerker, but it actually leaves you vulnerable, meaning that if you do choose to run Zerker, you’re ACTUALLY sacrificing defense for offense. At least, in that dungeon alone.

So because your Ranger got nerfed, you’re leaving the class entirely? Gearing up, to me, is like a rite of manhood for that profession. If you are to just use a different professions rite, it’s cheating yourself of the experience.

If you want gear for another character, grind it in dungeons/laurels. There’s no way to un-soulbind.

I had thought GW2’s whole philosophy with abolishing the holy trinity was to make it so any class combo could do all the main content, and while some classes could have a stronger ability to perform a role, it should not be ‘required’ to have a given class.

It’s not required to have guardians. It just makes it significantly easier. Why? Because their professions utility can cater to your every need in this dungeon.

nothing changed, bosses still drop nothing good,

Opinion, Shadow Behemoth was fixed to drop Final Rest. They also drop guaranteed rares, and have better loot tables than before.

instance/dungeon bosses still drop nothing good,

Opinion, however with your wording I’ll let it slide as their loot tables haven’t been adjusted.

epic armor still doesnt look good except for like 2 different sets….woohoo for variety, 2 sets wowww thats a lot.

Opinion.

PVP hasnt changed, at all, like at allll, they added a map called spirit watch, nothing special, but thats it.

Opinion, lots of balance patches have come in to change the sPvP meta, WvW has changed slightly, as well. WvW ranks, culling, EB JP a separate map, solo roamers have more of an impact than before, etc, etc.

dungeons/instances still look poorly thought-out and has no creativity.

No matter what people complain. AC was super easy and the best thing to farm on a daily basis. Was changed to be more of a challenge and everyone started whining that it’s not worth anyones time anymore.

welllll thats about it, o and you can keep ur hopes up for the coming updates starting july 9th….maybe stuff will get A LOT, A LOT, A LOT better. who knows, lol maybe ill actually start playing again…..but then again theres a good chance that nothing good will happen.

Why temporary content is good for the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Esplen.3940

Yes it works a few couple of times to retain players but after a while it doesn’t, with zero rewards (i don’t call a random backpiece or minipet rewards) players will still get bored and move on.

The players who only want rewards and don’t care about content are the same who keep jumping from MMO to MMO looking for a copy of their first online world. They are not reliable as a captive audience since they are not going to settle any time soon anyway.

And they won’t stop even if they do find their copy of their first online world, because it’s been masked by so much nostalgia.

We Need a Guild Wars Con

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

Would be nice to have, but there are a few problems.

A: Place. Players play this game across the world, I’m assuming you’re making your argument from a NA standpoint, meaning should the con be on East Coast or West Coast. Should it be in Canada? Should it be in Washington (where Arenanet is located)? Should it be in California?

B: Cost. Who would pay for it? Would it be a con where you pay for your ticket and can come there and buy a ticket. If so, what if there’s a giant warehouse and only 100 people show up? Or what if 10,000 people show up?

The list goes on, I’ll create a few solutions to the problems I wrote down.

A: Create a con for east and west coast respectively. There was foostival in France (iirc) and so having 2 cons isn’t out of the question, but will there be enough players? This leads me to my next point.

B: If a con like this were to happen, I would suggest making it such that you’d buy your tickets in advance so that the organizers wouldn’t have to worry about too many people. Of course, this may mean that it would end up being relatively small, or it may be ginormous.

If it were to happen, I think it’d be more of a gigantic gathering, and, while I’d like to say that I would enjoy heading over to participate, I feel like it would become somewhat out of my taste with loud music blaring and lots of loud noises while everyone plays together.

Just my 2cents on this, but I wouldn’t mind working to organize a smaller event in my area with the help of others.

He’s talking about skins not stats.

Like having Fused and Glyphic on the same staff and being able to switch between the two skins at will.

And then, like I said, the complaint will go towards stats. And all sorts of new problems will arise. “I have all the skins I want on my item, but I can’t have the stats I want on it.”

I was thinking about this to myself on the way home yesterday and I was like “what if people opted to pay $15 a month to get $20 worth of gems every month”? But, that’d just be abused and it might as well translate into: “Get $10 of gems for $5 after/with your first purchase of gems once a month!”

Since you could easily start the sub and immediately cancel it to get the $20 worth whenever you feel like it (once a month, of course).

Obviously you’d get the reward at the end of the month or at least after they’ve gotten their money, so cancelling it would serve absolutely no purpose.

But -1 for the OP’s idea.

Well, the whole point of my statement was to say that you can just bypass the subscription part of it and just get the bonus every month that you want.

It would charge your card, then you’d cancel the subscription, but you already paid for that month and got that months bonus gems. Then next month if you want it again, you’d do it all over again.

Of course, all of that just benefits players paying the game as opposed to playing it, which would drive gem —> gold prices down, which would create all sorts of pros and cons.

If you plan on getting the bonus from the subscription every month, why would you cancel it in the first place? It doesn’t make sense.

Either way no subscription is what drew people to GW1 and it’s what draws people to GW2, so any subscriptions at all would be just stupid.

I was just stating that it would be useless to implement if they did implement it.

If you run around in zones and listen to the NPC’s, they say a lot about story that doesn’t ever get finished, so there’s SO MUCH potential for storytelling that they can do. With Living Story, I’d rather it continued on with the current stories in the world than with introducing new ones, but I’m not going to say that I hate all living story because of it. In my personal opinion, which you may disagree with, I believe that Living Story and other temporary content are simply holiday content with no holiday tied to it.

So, with that in mind, if you are to make sure that all temporary content is permanent, why not just have Halloween and Wintersday all year round so that new players don’t miss out on those events, too?

That would be fine, holiday-like fluff content, if it wasn’t in place of real content, like the loads of new Dynamic Events Colin hyped last fall, (touted as doubling or tripling the number of DEs with in a year), which never materialized.

I think the entire Living Story strategy, based on what we’ve seen to date, has been a complete failure and absolute waste of development time. If they couldn’t produce meaningful monthly content, I don’t have much hope that twice monthly content updates will provide anything more than a cotton candy experience.

Well, it’s heading more towards a permanent direction. Bazaar of the Four Winds has a lot of permanent content as opposed to most other Living World/content patches.

To be completely fair, they are listening to their player-base, it’s just most people don’t realize that and just whine all day.

This is just… not a good argument. For one, holiday events are recurring, and that’s what makes them cool. For two, it’s good to have some event-type temporary content, it’s just not good for it to be the majority of content that’s introduced. Again, it needs to supplement permanent additions to the game.

And Living Story is continuing. Also, Living Story has been adding permanent content. Most people are just too caught on the “OH GOD, THE MOLTEN ALLIANCE WAS HERE AND WE BEAT THEM BUT WHY CAN’T THEY STILL BE HERE?! AND THEN THERE’S THE KARKA, WE BEAT THEM, BUT WHY CAN’T THEY STILL BE HERE?! AND THEN THE AETHERBLADES, WE BEAT THEM, BUT WHY CAN’T THEY STILL BE HERE?!”

There have been new PoI’s, new NPC’s (in the actual PvE aspect of the game, not just Marjory and Kiel), new Area’s, a new jumping puzzle, and soon to be even more new things.

Additionally, there have been the introduction of Blooming Passiflora, the Karka Queen Meta event, along with Karka Potions (the +150 toughness potion isn’t that bad), new Recipes, new items, and new Gem Store items (with less and less RNG!)

I’m sorry, but, where does it say that everything in the game has to be permanent other than holidays that re-occur? Heck, who said that all holidays had to re-occur, anyways? My point still stands. I treat all these content patches as holiday patches, regardless of whether or not they re-occur. If you feel differently, that’s your choice.

You guys remember when everyone beat the game and complained for more zones/things to do? This was back before all the temporary content, before Southsun. They released Southsun, which was supposed to be a hard zone equivalent in difficulty to Orr. It was equivalent in difficulty to Orr but nobody went there because everyone wanted to farm solo (or, in Orr, in groups, ironically). So they moved onto other things because new zones clearly weren’t up to snuff for players.

They worked on content patches to give people things to ease them off of the fact that there aren’t any more zones and to encourage people to leave Lion’s Arch. It worked, people still stay in Lion’s Arch, but there’s incentive to go to WvW (even moreso, namely with dailies), there’s incentive to leave Lion’s Arch. But then people complained that this content was all temporary and that if you missed one little part of it, you can’t continue on with any of it.

Who said that you can’t continue with any of it? With that logic, everyone must have played GW1 because otherwise they miss a huge part of the story and can’t play without it.

Now give me some reasons as to why we need to have more new permanent content?
Is Southsun Shore giving you the chills after you’ve spent 500 hours in there? Have you spent 500 hours in Southsun Shores?

I bought the axe on the premise that all this “wrong” stuff was what I was getting!

If they “fix” it I will have to demand a refund, ragequit, and cry myself to sleep.

It’s funny because this is the reason why most things won’t get fixed even though your post is trolling.

I know you weren’t asking me, but I didn’t have the chance to sit down play the game for 20 days recently (missed the fireworks achievement because of it). Things happen sometimes – problems at home, internet downtime, strict work schedules, trips.

Yes, things happen, but having a life and being a hardcore gamer are two different things.

If you want all the achievements, you should prepare your granny diapers and your soda cans.

If you want just enough to get the backpack/mini-pet/whathaveyou, you can go on your business trips.

Still nothing from Anet yet…

To be completely fair, if you’re that much of an achievement completionist, you’d either be done by now or still actively working on it to the best of your ability.

This coming from an achievement completionist who’s been done with all the achievements since Friday.

Yeah I’ve only had chance to properly sit down after working all weekend.
I completed the base dungeon already, these things need practice.

So you’re telling me that you’ve not had a chance to sit down and play for the past week?
