There is quite a difference between primary acquired items and secondary acquired items. Primary acquired items allow for supply to promptly balance demand, while secondary acquired items are subject to modified supply. Thus price fluctuations of the two are not really equatable.

I don’t know whether this question has already been asked, but anyways:
There are surely a lot of “historic” items offered on the TP as well as there are historic buy requests, by that I mean transactions requested by players who have not been active in this game for a long time.
Do you think that there should be a maximum time for buy or sell requests to be active in the TP before they expire and are deactivated (being no longer usable), because if they are there for so long they do no longer reflect the current state of the economy anyways?
John has previously addressed this issue. Basically, the Trading Post is a set of offers, thus they should only “expire” when YOU decide to cancel it (it’s not an auction house).
Additionally, having an expire function would cause market inefficiencies and huge price swings.
Wow that took me a long time to find…..
There are a myriad of reasons why this wouldn’t work properly in our game, but on top of it all it would seriously discourage long term investments which is not something we want to do. Long run investments are lots of fun!
So discouraging long term investments……..ummm ya……
While this is fine in theory and all the pvp base is not large/strong enough to be doing anything that discourages the vast majority of it’s players. Once pvp has a large enough base of players that play in teams, by all means push for it. Until then it is not wise (imo) to push those who make up most of a marginal player base into something they do not necessarily want to do. It’ll result in less players, which is detrimental to the format.
Probably pointless to mention but you could replace that cpu with a 771 xeon, which would give more out of your 775 mobo/ram/os. Problem is it’s not as simple as popping one out and the other in…a little modification is needed.

Is that for EU players On EU servers or EU players on NA servers? or both maybe?
^ You can definitely get the newer lower level rares from 80 only zones. I have received several from Silverwastes. The ones that you have to pick between two stats.
The only really issue I have with account bout items are ascended. Get what’s supposed to one of the best drops in the game, and you might have no use for it and nothing you can do with it but merch it for next to nothing, but that also has to do with not being able to forge or salvage it as well.
Ahh …I’m on NA…..45mins now…and afraid it might pop any second and don’t want to restart whole process again
Are you NA or EU?
I’m in ranked queue for going on 30mins…….this is not worth playing.
That info surely shook things up. Gemstones crashed from 2g 50s to 60s and essence of time sky rocketed from 1g 50s to 10g 30s.
That seems a bit off. Reporting posts for violating forum policy sure, but not just b/c it doesn’t adhere to your intent.
This thread is about recommending people, if people talk bad about others, it is off topic and therefore violates forum policy.
Recommendations go both ways. As long as it’s not off colored or against forum policy there shouldn’t be any more issue with one than the other.

I think Monday…not positive
Looks pretty good including Free sync support and VSR (like Nvidia’s DSR…a downsampler)

Back and the profit is still good but people are really starting to realize it. Btw the recipe is not 250 mystic coins but rather 50.
For some strange reason, i just had a 1v1 in ranked match, how’s that even possible? I don’t know, but it was just me and a asura warrior and no one else was in there.. In fact, when the ready popup appeared there was only 2 slots for check..
Same I just had a duel as well…….2 in a row now.
edit my opponet says they are in thier second duel in a row too.
Buy order crafting is around 50g atm so easy profits to be made. Normally I wouldn’t say this, but I gtg out for a while so I won’t be able to cash in any more while the getting is good.
I am inclined to agree. It has been far too reliably observable by too many players to not warrant suspicion.
Seriously, again, this isn’t a thing.
In the same way that DR isn’t really a thing?
I am inclined to agree. It has been far too reliably observable by too many players to not warrant suspicion.
This will probably be an unpopular thing to say here but the feeling I get is that sub-forums such as this one end up becoming an abscess where only certain mindsets are allowed (due to congregation of folks of certain ‘interests’). I think its not conducive to good discussion due to the inherent conflict of interests.
It might be unpopular, but it’s true. Have a posted opinion of things that differentiates from that set and it will be swarmed upon. It keeps a lot of posters from posting.
And now it’s down to 100g………….lol
2 listed at this time one at 750g lol and one at 500g. They cost about 350g +sand atm to craft
Interesting.
From a forum user perspective…I was a mod at guru for a while and it’s not really all it’s cracked up to be. Sounds okay in theory but in practice it’s basically just doing a bunch of busy work for free.
From Anet’s perspective…..We get busy work done for free.
Stands to reason that the people you’d want for such a thing are typically not the ones that apply for such. In laymans…special snowflakes do not make great liaisons.
I didn’t say that at all. I said it wasn’t perfectly self regulating. The price is apt for for what it is.
Basically you cannot expect to play wvw laglessly (is that a word?). It will not make a difference whether you have a 5k dollar machine or a 800 dollar machine, both will have lag.
That said it doesn’t really take much to run GW2 at it’s best potential.
For that (and others can correct me here) we are shooting for:
@1080
i5-3570k or better
8gb 1600 RAM or better
750 ti or r9 270 or better
ssd for load times
psu based on cpu/gpu choices
aftermarket cpu cooler……cm 212+ or better (purely a recommendation)
mobo to match cpu/gpu choices….no need to go overboard
case to match preferences
While instinctively I do agree that higher tier/rarity goods should always be more valuable than lower tier ones (speaking purely from a “game logic” view), Wanze also made a really good point about the increased prices for lower tier mats being a great way to shift money from veteran players to newer ones.
Still, in the long term I would like to see downgrade recipes get introduced for all mats. It would ensure that no matter how the supply/demand curve changes, all mats would constantly adjust in equilibrium with each other. (The precise exchange mechanics would need to be calibrated so you couldn’t generate an infinite loop of materials, of course.)
I simply dont see the problem with the status quo. Of course common sense would dictate that higher tier mats should be the more expensive. But that also requires the higher tier mats to be harder to get than lower tier mats, which isnt the case in GW2 (exceptions apply). IT also requires that higher tier mats have more demand than lower tier mats from veteran players, which also isnt the case, at least for gossamer.
RIght now, prices are dictated by supply and demand. If people farm one ressource too much, its value drops. Its perfectly self regulating.
That’s the whole point of this thread though. It’s not perfectly self regulating. Gossamer is not at it’s price because players farm it too much. It’s at that price b/c the sinks for it are too low to match the byproduct supply. Some items have the opposite problem. This game doesn’t allow much self regulation, as much of supplies are byproducts and therefore do not balance in regard to demand.
I’ll agree with the last thing Wanze said, that it helps spread out veteran players. I do not agree with it being a good thing for new players though. I remember being a new player and feeling taxed for crafting mats. I don’t think we should relegate crafting to end game. New players should be able to reasonably craft as well. That as we all know means they will have to buy lower end crafting mats in addition to what they gather.
Wanze’s point was that “the majority of the players” didn’t want the default to be the lowest sell price, and so ANet changed it. The only metric by which they could gather such data, particularly within such a short turnaround, would be by listening to people on the forums. Many of the people active on the forums that discuss the TP are the serious TP baron types, who of course would not want mechanisms that would make it easier for newbs to maximize their profits and minimize the TP baron’s margins. I mean, how profitable would the typical short term flip be if nobody ever filled buy orders unless the margins were negligible? It would be a nightmare for people who live as parasites on their fellow players, while at the same time meaning an average of 15-20% more TP gold per week for the average player.
It would make absolutely no difference in convenience or selling time, it takes no longer to place a sell order than to fill a buy order, the only difference is that it might take a little bit longer for the gold to materialize, and most players are not living so close to the margins that they absolutely need their TP returns right that minute. There is no plausible reason why the average player would not benefit from having the “sell order” price be the default option, but it would certainly upset the oligarchs.
Feel free to check my post history regarding the change. I always posted that i rather have the lowest listing as default or give players the option to choose, if lowest listing or highest bid will be their default sales price. If you claim that certain people advocate certain changes, please provide quotes to back it up before insulting them.
Ohoni didn’t say you wanted it. They said that you said that a majority wanted it, which you did.
Hell, at minimum they could change the default behavior from “sell at max buy order price” to “sell at minimum sell order price.”
They did exactly that with the introduction of the new TP UI. After negative feedback from the player base, they reverted that change in another patch shortly after.
It seems the mayority of the people doesnt care about the profits other people make when they sell directly. They are more interested in using 1 click less to sell their loot and get gold for it instantly.
No one is saying it shouldn’t. Idk why you keep trying to say people are saying things that they are not.
Ok then everyone who plays pve game puts in gems via gold or whatever. It’s tiered and at a certain tier you get your gems back. Then you don’t have to play, you can play to get your gems back, or you can win more via completing higher tiers.
To that extent what if they introduced repeatable very difficult PvE content that only a handfull of players could achieve and awarded gross amounts of gems as rewards. Something that could give possible limitless gems. Would that be okay?
In terms of rares I forge 4 of a kind swords, greatswords, staves, and daggers. The rest I mix.
When it comes to exotics I sell swords, greatswords, staves, and daggers. The rest I forge with mystic forge stones as the 4th (ofc given sigil value is not there)
And yeah I can echo no pres outside of forge/tp….8,140 hours.
For some players the RNG chest chances may as well not exist because they can pretty much guarantee they will not obtain anything in that manner.
Don’t think I ever said it was in a bad way. I was just showing the example of how one person or group or persons can have an influence on an item with high supply.
Trading on the trading post is just as much an in-game activity as any other.
I didn’t say it wasn’t. By all means traders should be able to earn equal amounts as any other legit method in the game.
Think of it this way…you have a snowboard tourny. You have lots of prizes for snowboarders. Snowboarders can earn/win up tp 10k dollars. Good stuff right? You also have a skiing half pipe which the prize is 0-50k and a sponsorship. Fantastic……but now anyone with sense will ask…..is that really a snowboard tourny?
(edited by Essence Snow.3194)
Look at Black lion Chests……..someone/s bought up…what roughly 16k gold worth (can’t remember offhand exactly…but it was a load) a while back, which has since increase said price duo fold.
edit take my numbers on this post with a grain of salt as I’ve been drinking a bit
Everyone is just as capable of making profit on the TP as those that currently do now.
It’s not a trading game. Why should they have to? When and if they start advertising it as such..I will gladly relinquish my stance.
Is that the same as rich players (those on the high end of an increasing wealth disparity) feeling entitled to be the only ones with certain items? Does that warrant keeping the status quo in a GAME where the majority of players are unhappy about it. Heck I’m rich in the game but don’t feel that entitled to everything that others shouldn’t have it just b/c I do by virtue of my ig gold.
Please describe the bad macro economic results that could not be alleviated via Anet’s ability.
In terms of what? It might not be an macro economic problem atm, but it’s effects are showing for sure in both micro economic nature as well as the socioeconomic side of things. One thing I’ve noticed about JS is that he mainly focuses on the macro. He tends to either miss or ignore the micro ramifications and the non economic side of things.
The whole reason that Anet touted the wealth equality at the beginning of the game……wealth equality is much better than wealth disparity.
Think about any economy in history. Is history wrong?
(edited by Essence Snow.3194)
The day after I finished Frenzy (bought Rage on the TP, it was cheap, nobody wants underwater weapons), I threw in some random rares in the Forge. And got the precursor with the skin I wanted ever since I saw it in the PvP locker: the Hunter. I got it earlier this year, and I only found out last week there’s another exotic that shares its skin…
Which Exotic shares skins with the Hunter? I was under the impression that it was the sole Precursor that didn’t have a shared skin.
It used to share one with a spvp skin. Since the pvp skins are no longer, that skin no longer exists.
Give me one relevant example where ever increasing wealth disparity is a good thing.
It’s pretty widely accepted as a negative thing for both sociological and economical models. If you need examples just look at at human history.
I think you need to re-examine what entitlement means if you really believe in wealth disparity as a good or positively acceptable thing.
Edit……Better yet ask JS about the impact of increasing wealth disparity on an economy.

Just got dusk from the forge. Really it has the wow feeling of finally getting paid back by someone that has owed you money for a long long time….more than winning or earning something.
Couple questions….
Do you have kitten or a hdd? If you have a hdd….kitten would be a nice upgrade.
How much are you looking to spend?
Do you have an aftermarket cpu cooler? If you are rocking the intel box cooler that came with the cpu, I would recommend an aftermarket one. Something like a 212+ or an evo would be effective yet not cost much.
That said I would OC your cpu more……hence the cooler. If GW2 is th only game you play I don’t think I can echo the others. The 970 is way too much of a card for this game and would be sort of wasted on it. The 280x and the 770 are sorta in this boat as well as a card half the price will give you 90% of the performance in this game. If this is really all you play then a $100 2gb 750ti would be plenty imo. You could use the price difference to upgrade to an ssd and aftermarket cooler for the same price of the 770 or 280×.
That’s not a good way to start a post. Essentially you’re confirming what Ohoni is saying.
The 1st sentence in the second bit is valid though.
He’s confirming that Ohoni believes that precursors are too expensive for him? Yes, he did. However he wasn’t confirming that precursors are too expensive or at least that’s my take on it.
To phrase in another way:
Ohoni believes precursors are too expensive. Eithinan confirmed that Ohoni has this belief. That’s all.
This post sums up what these two bring to the table in these discussions a lot of times. Quibbling and clarification respectively.
TY Ayrilana.
You countered him or her…idk which…saying that you were deliberately misunderstanding them by deliberately stating what you thought they meant. That’s right there….it’s like someone telling you you’re arguing something is orange then you say no it’s a mix of red and yellow. It’s the same dern thing. It’s one of the things you can’t read past because it’s a (for lack of better words) face palm moment.
If you don’t like RNG don’t purposely buy into it.
That’s not a good way to start a post. Essentially you’re confirming what Ohoni is saying.
The 1st sentence in the second bit is valid though.
If you’re good enough it is. You can’t earn rl cash in PvE.
Sorry I thought my sarcasm was a bit more obvious. My point was the data of 26 ppl hitting DR during 1 random hour during 1 random day means just about nothing.
The numbers do not tell the whole story. 4/5 dentists recommend brand x toothpaste. Well that’s nice, but it means almost nothing. Here we have 26 for one hour on a Monday morning. Again that’s nice, but it doesn’t tell us much of anything. He also noted that not including Halloween we have not had triple digits in that category either. Now we can take a high of 99 and a low of 0 and assume an average of 50 per hour (ofc this is only if we take any of the numbers to mean anything what so ever). 50 per hour times 24 hours equates to 1200 players per day hitting DR. Woohoo this is going places….lol. Now we have 8400 per week. Knock that down to 4200 for repeat offenders and take a high estimate of 400k concurrent….carry the 1…and calculating…calculating…calculating……..You have a better chance of hitting DR than of getting a precursor! Virtually nobody divided by 2 gets a precursor.
