GOLD! Jerry GOLD!
Thank you for the heads up. Definitely won’t be replaying it till we get some info.
This is about DR. Is it based on when you kill something or when you pick up the loot? I vaguely remember people stating during the Blixx farm to pick up loot in 4 min intervals to slow down DR. Assume you’re allowed to answer this of course.
I cannot speak on the specifics, but I will say that it’s not really a thing anymore. In the last hour 26 people hit DR. Virtually nobody ever hits DR.
Like another poster said, during Halloween loads of players hit DR. It was very easy for us to tell. Since then we had a release of which has been designed relatively DR free, numbers ofc will be lower while players are playing said content.
Can you please explain the comment “Virtually nobody ever hits DR”? I know it seems straight forward, but if it is indeed meant straight forward, I’m going to have to call bs.
The idiom “Don’t put all your eggs into one basket” comes to mind.
We can pull all kinds of idioms from where ever we want but unless you have an example of how it could apply, then what is the relevance? Are you suggesting that because so many high end materials are linked to legendaries that some event would lead to a relatively harder path to get one? I would like to hear what you have in mind if that’s the case. Just imagine what that would look like if we increase precursors … fun stuff.
It’s directly related to the conversation Wanze and Phys are on atm. Diversity helps stability by limiting the effects on the whole.

We’ve known not all accounts are equal since the beginning of the game. Remember some accounts being affected by wvw bonuses and some not?
…
Yeah, i do. I guess you forgot why it was that way – it happened because some were on main servers, and some were on overflows (overflows didn’t get WvW bonuses then).
I don’t buy that at all, as I was affected by it and people in my parties were not…….ie we were in the same maps/instances. Not only that but it was persistent (did not change till fixed regardless of map) to certain accounts. If it were limited to overflow maps that would mean that it would only had effected bonuses when on an overflow map…and not while on a main. The only way it would be possible for that to be true is if my parties and I were unable to get on a main server during my 1st 1k+ hours of play, which spanned roughly 10 hours a day. Yeah…not a chance of that check getting cashed.

^ that’s a rather good point…at the very least sell it to you for his forging costs

I’d think that’s reaching a bit. That answers the question asked “does it make it easier to balance material faucets?”. Is it the same answer that would be given if asked “What are Anet’s values?”, idk for sure but I kinda doubt that would be the same answer. It might contain long term stability (long term being key), but that’s merely one faucet of a much broader scope.
(edited by Essence Snow.3194)
Nice exaggeration. It is no way the complete opposite of what Anet values. For starters we don’t know exactly what they value.
Ohoni has provided reasoning to as why they want what they want…a base for their debate.
You on the other have exaggerate wildly claiming things that aren’t said to try and discredit them for what reason? What’s you base for your exaggerations and claims?
Even though I don’t agree with Ohoni on making pre’s cheaper for the sake of making them obtainable……they provide quite a bit of base in their posts, which is more than I can credit to you Obtena.
I’m not even going to quote anyone, because it’s simple: there is no scaling up of the champion fights because there are no adds. So whether it’s 1 or 15 people fighting those Mordrem Champions during the Breach, it does not matter…so whether those people WP out or not isn’t going to make a difference. That’s all you need to know, and once they’re dead, not downed, I don’t believe they count towards the active players, and this would only apply to the Legendary Mordrem, which have nothing to do with the Champions. So in essence, you don’t need auto-waypointing.
This is simply flat out wrong. Single foes do scale to both alive as well as defeated players. The defeated players stay a part of scaling for a set period of time…..which we do not know how long that is.
When you bought the game you paid for the content offered at that time. Any additional content developed after that, is free to play for you.
Except that was/is a feature detailed under that box sale price. If there was no mention of it linked to the box price then it sure would be 100% free. Since it is associated with the box price consideration is conveyed to said price.
I just checked under the box price for heroic and digital deluxe version and it isnt mentioned as a feature.

The description of the game features also doesnt mention it.

Just looked myself and must admit you are correct. Thus I will edit my prior post.
Zerging is mindless….How are you defining zerging.
I can assure you that not all large groups of players are mindless. There are countless examples of this in wvw.

Yes I have 2 lvl 80 wars (one asura, one norn), 2 lvl 80 thieves (one human, one asura), 2 lvl 80 rangers (one norn, one charr), and 2 lvl 80 guardians (one norn, one sylvari). I have the asura war and thief for spvp and the other duplicates were for armor styles or in the case of my sylvari guardian a dedicated wvw toon. Now that they have put standard models in rated spvp and made wxp account bound……my reasoning for some of the doubles are obsolete.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong here but isn’t the 290x bottlenecked here by the a8 7600? Since this game is heavily cpu dependent your cpu might have something to do with it. That aside it does however sound as if something else/also might be going on here.
There needs to be an understanding of rewards of the micro scale and how the macro doctrine ties into it. We don’t really have that in this game though. So it would seem we are sol.
Missing one major bit I think..
Zerging is not only about loot. It is encouraged by mass combo fields, shared boons, shared condition removal….basically more survivabilty and more ability to inflict dmg.
But the problem then mainly is that there is no good alternative like mounts or other forms of fast travel. Ways that make more sense and don’t show loading screens but do help you to get to your location faster.
Make more sense than floating buildings, magic, giant speaking cat things, large ear mole things, a toilet that you put things in and it spits things out, giant speaking frogs and toads, giant speaking snake like things, etc etc…?
Yeah it does because in a place full magic most of those things (all except for the toilet) do make sense.
The way-points not so much.. Not if Asura portals are these great things they have here. And how do way-points even work? It’s a magical map and I press my finger on that place and I get there? But then why do I even have to first get there before it works. It just does not make any sense, even not in world full magic.
Now there are other things that don’t make sense, like the mini’s that look like important NPC’s. I would never put a mini like that in an MMO. So yes there are things that don’t make sense (what was your point) but that does not mean that the fact that this makes more sense is no good argument. It still is.
Have you played the living story? It explains wp’s a bit. We’d have to ask someone like Konig about wp’s in lore. As far as I’m concerned they are smaller versions of portals that require stability for their unique transportation properties. Idk maybe each one has to attune to one’s individual resonance to ensure safe transit? Really there are a lot of things that are far more questionable in the game. Potions that turn you into furniture? Never needing to actually eat or sleep? Pets that pop in and out of thin air? The list goes on and on.

I see this, precursor crafting/scavenger hunt, brought up almost always when listing communication woes.
ArenaNet did keep us in the loop, announcing when it was being pushed back, and then when the current iteration was scrapped, and had to be started from scratch. The announcements have been quoted countless times in threads, and yet….it always seems to come up as something the Devs totally ignored and kept silent about.
Good thing it wasn’t something else, or it would be used as an example of how ArenaNet ‘over-hypes’ everything!
A real case of darned if you do, and darned if you don’t. /sigh
Yeah those moments of keeping us in the loop were extremely few and very far between.
It would be like a good friend telling you that they are working on a putting together a reunion vacation (that you are really excited about)…then not saying anything about it (even though you ask) for a very long time. Then finally they tell you they had to push back the planning of it due to complications. (yeah np things happen…..kinda would have been nice had they kept you in the loop a little bit more) Then you simply don’t hear anything else about it again for a very long time (remember you were/are really excited about it). Then a couple years later after asking them about it over the course of those couple years they finally just say it’s not going to happen.
Moral of the story is……if your friend treats you this way….they don’t really respect you enough for you to value them that highly as a friend.
Forum Rage available at vendor value.
Looks like they’re having a BOGO sale…
Oh goodie…so which one of you is free?

And just what would that objective while playing the game be?
If you’re trying to get green pieces and happen to be playing chess while doing so then yes you can.
There are multiple possible objectives<—————very easy concept
Yeah nvm the whole edit……just carry on………(sarcasm btw)
All of that completely depends on what the objective is. If the two players are trying to get green pieces and one can pay to get green pieces faster…..then yes they can p2w. There are multitudes possibilities in terms of objectives. Even in chess…..least amount of clock time, most losses while using the most logical moves (losses can be a win if that’s the objective), most games played consecutively, etc etc….
It all depends on the objective and means to that objective.
You see your second sentence is where the issue is. You are imposing a specific defined criteria to something where it is not necessary. To win something does not require improving ability (ability used in specific context). What is the objective? How is that objective obtained? Can more than one compete for said objective in some manner? Can one use paying to gain advantage over another in the fashion to which that objective is obtained?
edit* rewording for sake of the confusion to which I know that will cause
(edited by Essence Snow.3194)
Distilled? How? I fail to understand how:
“anything I don’t like in the cash store”
can be a distilled result of
“where rl cash is used to obtain a goal in an advantageous fashion over not using rl cash”
Unless a)reading comprehension fail b) Strawman c) didn’t read
I’m not sure why some insist that p2w is so specific. It has become an eponym for anything where rl cash is used to obtain a goal in an advantageous fashion over not using rl cash. It is very much like a brand name becoming the standard for something. Examples of this are Kleenex for tissues, in the UK Hoover for vacuum/ing, or aspirin for acetylsalicylic acid.
Ofc if we must insist on it being so specific we can always just categorize things not encompassed by it as simply cheating.
If the term “P2W” has morphed into a synonym for “anything I don’t like in the cash store”, then it has lost its ability to be used in intelligent debate as it no longer objectively classifies something.
Is that what I said? I don’t believe so.
Didn’t realize stating the truth was the same as fussing.

Just a thought which is probably not realistic but oh well……t6 reward tracks where players can pick a track based on which t6 mat they want. It would help balance the t6 markets, make pvp much more rewarding, sink gold, bring in pvers to pvp.
Just making a note that the halloween reward track was not remotely close to pve. The rewards from other tracks were a better path via selling to the same rewards than the halloween track itself. So it was mainly pointless.
Kinda referring to an intended one to keep in more inline with other t6 mats.
I know we have level scrolls and such but I would also really really enjoy a new type of scroll/tome….trait unlock scroll/tome…please.
Any chance of a t6 blood stimuli anytime?
^not to mention that t6 mats for the most part are not targetable due to dr kicking in and rather low drop rates coupled with rng preventing farming. This makes supply mostly based from random drops and not supply created via demand.
They could become the next EA or Ubisoft…that’d be great right?
How on earth does actual costs of production compare to game where there is no such thing?
I’ll mention 2 here that defy reasonable thought.
1) Potion bug. For a long time slaying potions were bugged that players would receive increased dmg from foes instead of decreased. It was reported and know for a very long time yet never attended to. Then Scarlet’s patch came in and potions of Scarlet slaying were introduced also bugged. Within an hour the bug to all potions was fixed.
2)Daily activity bug. For a while prior to dragon bash daily activities were bugged that consumables, traits, runes, and sigils would trigger while in activities. This completely broke all activities. It was reported and known. Then dragon bash was introduced with the bug breaking the festively mini games. Very promptly it was patched and fix.
Here’s my issue………They were able to fix both of these within a very short amount of time. Since these were known about, reported, and able to fixed quickly…WHY did they not address them sooner?
In terms of rng and random things the only “wow” moments I’ve had in game have come from other players. All the game generated ones have been overshadowed by unrelenting disappointment.
Now I have had quite of bit of admiration for the graphics, game play, and such, but none of those have really giving me that “wow” feeling.
That is such a crock of kitten and you know it. The costs associated ig and in rl are not even remotely comparable.
Your whole debate is NOT valid and you know it. To think it is would be claiming ignorance, insanity, or trolling…..and I think we all know which one it mainly is.

I think the OP is right. Drytop and The Silverwastes will end up just like Orr.
Fun, challenging zones that people are playing the way they were designed to be played.
As opposed to overcrowded farm fests.
The funny bit is that the OP sees a problem in this. Working as intended.
Here’s the problem Vayne……those designs are based on certain populations. I might be wrong here but once the initial rush of players die down it will be very hard to get enough players on the map to complete the events as designed.
Granted it’s more of a scaling issue than a reward issue. Rewards are just a very easy way around the much harder scaling issue.
Just a heads up Anet…the silence about both the chest farm and the Halloween raffle are two prime examples of what not to do.
Maybe then it’s their intention that players shouldn’t be hanging around once they have gotten all the rewards and accumulate all that excess, useless currency. Ever think that? Before in LS1, once an arc was finished, you couldn’t simply hang around and redo the content indefinitely.
A long time ago they acknowledged that the game was in need of reward tweaking. What has been done since then?
Rewards have been trending away from monster drops. There is a continued reliance on trash loot (blues, greens). Added currencies are limited in scope thus are limited in usefulness. Events have been scaled to introductory population numbers, thus when population rush ends events become more difficult than they should be and participation weens….making the event completion rewards mostly non existent.
Imo if they are trying to improve rewards they are going about it the wrong way.
The added currencies can only be used for a very limited set of rewards, thus are limited by such…….ie…once a player has garnered all of said reward the currency becomes useless.
If they added more options to use the currencies on (maybe mats t1-t6) then they would retain more value.

Aside from the exo jewelry issue, I’d say that everything here is a good thing.
It’s to be expected when the vast majority of rewards are based on gold. Can’t really blame players when the game is set up in such a manner.
