Wow so for the same price of 1 char slot we can have a whole second account with 5….fantastic. I hope they get the word out as this is a phenomenal deal.
Idk about anyone else but I’d be happy with exotic “junk”. Problem is, I simply rarely get any of it. Everything is blues and greens. Just throwing random pull out my kitten numbers here but it seems that for every 5k blues and greens I might have a chance at an exo, but then again maybe not.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Rare skins are just as farmable in this game as they were in its predecessor. It ranges the whole gamut of can’t-give-it-away common all the way up to consign-your-life-away impossible to find.
Uhmm yeah…gonna have to call you out on this. I had over 16k hours in gw1 and was a moderator for gwguru ventari’s corner (the buy/sell section).
The reason the super expensive r7s in gw1 were so pricy is b/c they were no longer available as drops in the game. There were only a few of them floating around after being patched out. Those weapons/minis/etc…mainly got traded back and forth between the same players. In other words the high end traders basically traded them amongst themselves. The farmable skins aka mid ranged were very much directly farmable and it showed. UWsc for eternals, SoOsc for bds, FoWsc+vssc for vs, Frostmawsc for silverwings, etc etc…In gw1 there were very specific farms for certain items that had relatively expected returns.
What do we have in gw2? A few world boss skins (final rest, jormag’s breath, etc) that are time gated and are pure crapshoots?
It’s pretty clear what I was saying.
Yes. “People” is clear. Got it. (lol)
Perhaps you should actually read my posts again rather than find words that are ambiguous enough that you can manipulate what their meanings are to further support whatever it is that you’re arguing.
I tried. I even tried to give you credit for having a mistaken argument rather than an empty one. It was you who corrected me.
On a serious note, perhaps you should be more clear? Without categorization and/or an everyone context to “people asked for xyz”, the statement carries zero value as a point or a counterpoint because it is too vague.
There’s no backtracking here. Just trying to clarify the attempt of you manipulating and twisting what I was saying.
You should follow your own advice about using non-ambiguous words in future posts.
If you read my posts and understood the context, you would have understood that I was not referring to everyone. It’s impossible to lump everyone under what category. I personally see nothing wrong with how we have things now which was reflected in my posts. Clearly since I don’t find anything wrong then there would probably be others that feel the same way. This would mean that not everyone feels the same way.
Instead you argued that I had empty arguments based on the usage of “people” rather than arguing against my arguments. I should not have to spell out every single thing that I say with disclaimers because some individuals prefer to twist and manipulate various meanings of words as their unable to present an argument against the argument itself or they just don’t know any better.
lol “Gold Jerry Gold”…. Pot meet kettle Just b/c u haven’t done it in this thread doesn’t mean you haven’t done the same thing in numerous other threads.
It’s widely accepted that the rng reward structure in this game is one of the game’s main flaws. Anet even goes so far as to acknowledge the rewards are in need of work, hence some of the new ways we are able to obtain some.
I haven’t done the same thing in other threads. Thanks. What you see are people who would rather argue over the meaning of a post rather than the argument presented with the post. One of many reasons why I cut back on posting as it’s annoying to have arguments over what I meant rather than over what position I was taking.
Widely accepted? Are you sure? Any sources? Otherwise you’re doing the same thing that the other user accused me of including yourself.
Here’s one just recently about the very same topic:
I never said easy….
A lot of people equate pleasant as easy.
The reward acknowledgement goes all the way back to 2013 to Colin’s blog post. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Colin-Johanson-Video-GW2-2013-Preview/first
It almost seems as there’s a Murphy’s Law code in the script that insures when you want something you’re screwed….lol

I believe there is a class action lawsuit in the works vs DirectSong for not meeting contractual obligations of delivery of good or services. IE…lots of people paid for the music but never received anything for their money.
Perfect example of Anet’s unrewarding and messed up RNG philosophy.
Yet they repeat it over and over again. What definition does that remind me of?
Although I play it everyday my main gripe with pvp is some of the players. There are a whole lot of really…what’s the word…kitten holes in pvp. Ever heard the expression “one bad apple can spoil the bunch”? In pvp’s case it’s a bunch of bad apples.
I wouldn’t continue it in this fashion if I didn’t agree that there could be superior systems.
How do you feel about hybrid RNG systems that employ such concepts as ‘streakbreaker’ mechanisms, that eventually force or enable some manner of deterministic option? I’m curious, as they’re not uncommon (consequently, I imagine they’ve been examined in various formats before), and wondering what the reasons might be for why they aren’t employed…or if its merely a matter of that they haven’t been employed yet.
Are they off the table? If so, why.
Are they topically relevant? If so, how do you feel about them?
I don’t think they’re off the table. I’ve played several games using this type of RNG in my research recently and they are not my favorite solution, but that’s still a personal opinion, I haven’t developed a professional one yet.
Wouldnt streakbreaker or token systems add to wealth disparity between veteran/hardcore players and new/casual players?
Well ideally a streakbreaker wouldn’t shift the mean by all that much if it only impacted those who are outside of say the two sigma “unlucky” end of the tail. The idea is to only implement it for the ultra rare drops.
Also note that it wouldn’t add anything remotely close to what is currently available via playing the tp. Playing the tp is and will always continue to be far beyond anything else in game (ofc abstaining dumping heaps of rl cash). It is the numero uno variable when it comes to wealth disparity.
According to those that claim playing the tp offers endless riches it also takes no effort.
As there arent any other restrictions to play the tp either, it can be done by old and new players, casuals and hardcore players.
If its available to all groups, how can it be a divider between those?
I never said it didn’t require effort. I only said it is unbounded by game mechanics/authority.
The impacts of the hypothetical additions in question would have limits implied by the game itself. It would have no respective difference due to level of invested effort that anything else on that front. The only difference would be the exact same as the rest of the game. Playing the tp is unbounded by the game itself while everything else is limited. That’s the reason why there is the difference. Aside from that one variable everything else has commonality.

I have this issue as well. Due to my mmr or whatever I get paired with the same afkers time and time again. I can’t submit a ticket while playing or else detract from my team more on top of the afkers.
Seriously it’s the same ppl time and time again. If I get paired with them I know going into the match its already a loss b/c they afk every time.
edit: they don’t actually fully afk…they move a lil as not to get booted but do not leave base

I kinda feel bad for backpack. He’s too young to qualify for tournies and too stuck in playing team for high leaderboard. 2/3 losses.
This is clearly an oversight from anet. Using up a key for the home instance bandit chest is a loss. Unlike SW, you do not have the Perseverance buff (extra MF) when opening it. You are better off hopping to SW, raise your perseverance level and open them.
Please fix it so it doesn’t require keys thanks.
That is something I hadn’t thought about and is very relevant. Nice catch!
Did I miss something about the daily cap not being raised to 15k? It’s still at 10k.
You can’t do what you did. For one, you absolutely must have independent trials, and defining success based on a previous trial means that this condition does not apply.
Humans are very good at spotting patterns, even where none exist. If you give a human a string which is “0123456789”, they’ll see a pattern and probably think it’s not random. If you give them the string “2579825731” you can probably convince them it was randomly generated. However, the probability of randomly generating either string is exactly the same, and is the same as “1111111111”.
I guess you missed the bolded part
Ok.
Again, not a stats person so tell me if this is wrong. Just ran a binomial stats test. Link here:
http://stattrek.com/online-calculator/binomial.aspx
A binomial experiment has the following characteristics:
-The experiment involves repeated trials.
-Each trial has only two possible outcomes – a success or a failure.
-The probability that a particular outcome will occur on any given trial is constant.
-All of the trials in the experiment are independent.I defined a “success” as getting the same ring as before. There were 84 rings, so 84 trials. I assumed RNG as we’ve been told, and I assumed independence, IE one day is not linked to another day.
Again, as noted above, wiki says there are 34 fractal rings that can drop. So the probability of success for a single trial is .000865. There were 84 trials. Number of successes is 15, but I counted the triple ring as a single success so 14.
The calculator told me the probability of getting less than 14 doubles assuming a sample size of 84 and the odds listed is 0.999999999999999. That’s a 99.9999999999999 (13 9s) percent chance that I’d have fewer than 14 doubles.
The new hair color choices are nice, but the accessory color choices really limit both hair style and color choices. It would be nice to be able to match all the new choices instead of being “bottlenecked” by accessory color.
It’s not just you OP. I know I get Ossa Family Signet Ring three fold any others. In my guild we know with shocking accuracy if someone is going to get something good who it’ll be. Hint* it’s the same person every time. Well after over two years it’s not really shocking anymore just expected.
I find it odd as a player that utilizes alts. I most likely will never use it as I can use my alt in sw to gain as many of these as I want without having to swap keys over to my home instance alt.
Vision crystal, 2 deldrimor ingots (nice, as I’ve had an iron deficiency for some time and have been making the time-gated part but not the ingots themselves. I miiight some day make more ascended pieces). I almost think there was a third thing.
Sry to quote you here but this got me thinking. Couldn’t one take the 20 laurels convert them to t6, sell them, then buy 4 deldrimor ingots? Basically twice the main reward?
For that matter I wonder what the overall return on the choices are, give the variance and the value possibility of each?
I’m going for the laurels as there’s simply too much variable value associated with ascended mats. On one hand you could get 27g worth of damask (which would be nice) OR you could get <2g worth of elonian leather (which would stink).
Have any considerations been given in lieu of clicking feedback to future reward structure that might be implemented down the road?
How goes the work in progress of the mystic forge changes?
The mystic forge changes are a work in progress. What I will promise is that when it is done you will like it much better than you do now.
That was 9 months ago and we haven’t heard anything since.
I got one precursor drop early on, which I used. I’m working on my fifth legendary. I don’t buy gems and sell them for gold.
Yes, farming gold to buy a precusor is in no way epic and I don’t prefer it. But not insisting you get one as a drop isn’t reasonable.
On the other hand, I can understand why people would be annoyed, because Anet did indicate at some point they were working on precursor crafting and it was almost ready. They had to scrap it (which they told us about). But it’s still not ready and people are frustrated.
I’m frustrated too. The difference between them and me is that I’m working on my fifth legendary.
Idk about that. I have currently 6 legendaries and have given 3 away. I have never had one drop 8,610hrs r80 pvp, almost r1000 wvw, 6 fulll map clears, 12 80s, 24k+ ap. I still want one as a drop b/c it would mean more to me than all of the ones I either bought or forged (my forging track record is around over 1k gold per one forged). Even though I basically have everything in the game that I want I’m still very much frustrated by the horrid rng system.
(edited by Essence Snow.3194)
Also, just a side bar.
The match making/map choosing UI is horrible. Fix please. -Horrible how? 1990’s website horrible?
the one weird thing i get is that i usually have to select my choice (both map and accept/cancel) 2-5 times before the system accepts it. its the only place in the entire game that i have run into a problem like this.
i dont get this with accept/cancel, but i do get it with map selection.
I got this (accept/cancel) bug the other day. I had to leave prior to the queue popping so I left queue. For some reason it wouldn’t allow me to leave, so the accept/cancel pop continued like I was still in queue even when I left the hotm and was in la.
Yes. Leaving the game for any reason, including swapping professions, marks you as a deserter and gives you a full loss. A full loss is the same as if your team ended the game with a score of 0.
If dishonor was enabled, you would be getting dishonor for leaving as well.
I need this bit clarified a bit even if just for my own ignorance b/c of:
To prevent exploits, all members of the same party as the deserter would also receive a desertion result, but will not receive dishonor unless they leave early as well.
Does that mean if someone swaps professions the whole team gets punished? If so, when exactly does this take effect (once team is on map prior to match, or during the match)? I am mainly asking to know if a party member swaps at the start of the match is it already lost before it has even begun?
Edit: Btw Justin I skimmed through your replies…I am amazed by your feedback…it’s refreshing (seriously)
(edited by Essence Snow.3194)
Well if you’re going to ask me a question that inquires about my position please do not load such question so as it actually doesn’t ask my position.
To answer your question (which does not reflect my position as noted above), the Season 2 reward system does help (help being the key word) alleviate the rising costs, Wintersday much more so temporarily.
I said nothing of the sort. I never made that contention. Those are your words not mine.
I’d rather not try to prove a point using spike or slump numbers as doing so would invalidate it for the most part. I’ll be more than happy to discuss more relevant numbers that more accurately reflect the overall value of said items.
The price decrease is way more visible with Dawn, which lost a little over 10% in value since its peak in August last year. That might not sound much but from March 2013 to March 2014 Dawn also didnt inflate more than 10% in more than twice the time, so a 10% decrease in is quite substancial.
And it completely negates the argument that its impossible to work towards your goal (earning enough gold to buy a precursor) because your earnings are outpaced by price inflation.
Not sure what numbers you are using.
March 1st 2013 540g 58s 39c
March 1st 2014 621g 41s 72c
A difference of 80g 83s 33c or a 14.95% increase
Point being we can all cherry pick numbers to fit our positions. The overall trend of things matters more.
I had the lucky account bug back during Queens Gauntlet, got dusk and frostfang in a week of each other, now I’m pretty sure I’m paying for it, last six times I threw exotics in the toilet I got 76s/75s back, and all the junk I threw in was 80.
Hate to burst your bubble here but six times? Six times is trivial. There are loads of players that that is their reality every time.
No. No and wait what was that…oh yes NO! I much rather have one guaranteed at 80 pvp, 1000 wvw or 20k ap
edit to address the above…if they added some measure that would increase pre..of course they’d have to counter balance related materials…that’s a given
^yup. I throw in lots of stuff everyday and get <1/4 of lots of stuff back everyday……..yay for promises :/

I agree timers do. Thankfully they are made publicly available. I am not so sure all tp api tools are though. It also begs the question of “where is the line drawn?”. If an api if allowed that notifies you when other players input data to the tp, why not one that allows you to see when they have blown their CD’s in a match?
I have been “discussing” this since..oh..the beginning of the game mainly in the old tp section. I can pretty much give you a list of posters that will not agree with this and debate it’s validity tooth and nail (they also tend to be players heavily vested in the market).
That aside Anet has acknowledged rewards are known to be lackluster. What they haven’t done is acknowledged why. Going by comments made by JS (the one in charge of the tp), they do not recognize the correlation. I get the feeling of “best thing since sliced bread” going on there. As much as I hate to say it I really doubt they will give any consideration to any suggestions that don’t reflect the “holy mantra”.
I’m always a bit hesitant about things such as this. As we’ve been told playing the tp is just as valid as any other play style. Given that some api tools give advantages to players that use them over those that do not, I am…well hesitant.
Might I suggest either taking the demand debate to pm or making a demand thread? It’s kinda taking over the thread.
Nope. I’m saying that both of those cards go on sale regularly (about once every 2 weeks in the US) for about 100-110. At that price they would be the cards to get. This would be via Newegg or Tiger Direct.
Both the 750 ti and the r9 270 go for right around $100 on sale ar if you are in the US.
Demand is the ability/willingness to act on desire. So you can have desire without demand. An example of this would be kids desiring an expensive car. They desire the car but lack the ability to actually purchase it and/or influence the demand.
See above.
See what? You said something about them not being separate. I just noted that desire can be separate from demand even though demand cannot be separate from desire. Nothing more.
Yeah. Desire can be separate from demand but you cannot have demand without there being a desire for an item. Desire is part of demand. How could an item have any demand if nobody desired it?
Was that meant as a question at the end? That’s basically repeating what I just said.
I do however feel bad for those who were late to the party as it’s obvious that after the initial rush Donation Defender becomes painful. I’d wager that the after most achieved Golden Generosity they only donate 1 copper per day if any, thus making the dolyak event very few and far between.

Prices change due to changes in supply and demand. Precursors rose in price because of changes in the game that made them more desirable such as improved effects for some legendaries in Dec 2013 and the wardrobe changes last year. The ability of people to earn gold has had little impact on prices.
I disagree because the player’s “income” has a large impact. For instance, if I received an offer for my item and someone else beat that offer, then the price of my item just increased based on the highest bid. And if players are willing to purchase the item at that price and no more, then that effectively changed the price of that item. If player’s “income” is low, the bid for that item will remain low and might even lower the bidding price. TP is no different.
I’m talking about the changes in prices, not the price points. Also, what I bolded is called demand.
I’m talking about that the purchasing power of the player is mainly based on what they can afford, which is their “income”. Their demand for such item diminishes only because they can no longer afford it.
Demand and desirability are not necessarily the same thing.
Demand is based on player’s affordability mainly about “needs” and desirability is based on “wants” thus players can sometimes purchase something beyond their means (in this case pulling out the real money cash).
Therefore, your statement ; “Prices change due to changes in supply and demand” is not necessarily true. You said it yourself that the changes on Dec 2013 made some items “desirable” thus the price is based on “wants” not “needs”, thus it’s not based on demand.
I have to ask this. Do you know what demand is?
I believe I have illustrated it clearly.
The problem with your argument is that you confuse “demand” and “desire”, they are not one and the same.
Site a credible source that desire and demand are two separate things. I can site you numerous sources where desire is included in the definition of demand.
Demand is the ability/willingness to act on desire. So you can have desire without demand. An example of this would be kids desiring an expensive car. They desire the car but lack the ability to actually purchase it and/or influence the demand.
I am of the opinion that they should have a generic tag for answering questions. Maybe “this section fs rep” or something. If they want to partake in discussions in an opinionated manner they should use their normal forum accounts.
I have to admit, I didn’t read past the statement that TP users are exploiters. That kind of squashed any desire to read more.
Let me clarify what you’ve misinterpreted.
NOTE: I do not mention people who play the Trading Post in the following post. They do have an effect, but in comparison to the entire player base are less important for the points I am making. Besides, the player base has to create the resources that TP users exploit.
Exploit in this context is defined as a verb meaning to make full use of and derive benefit from (a resource). Synonyms to this usage are "use, utilize, leverage, capitalize from, etc….
It’s spot on appropriate usage.
I agree with that^^
They should though b/c players do and they are the ones that made gems convertible to gold and vice versa. It’s kinda common sense or very logical if you prefer.
Well some players openly admit to using auto clickers and they are not banned. So there’s that. It would be quite a double standard for them to ban some and not others over the same thing.
ps..I’m not advocating it…just noting what is observable
So why even bother bringing it up? They use it as storage now and they’d use it then. You are basically saying your post was not constructive and then saying ty to me for noticing that.
