Astonished ya’ll are still allowing Cof p1 to remain in it’s current state. Ya’ll changed the world bosses because of the economy, yet ignore what this allows/creates.
I just dont get, where do you guys get so much money. I do dungeons, I do bosses and I started saving for legendary in December. I still need half of T6 mats, 250 globs of ectos and precursor. How do you get 600g to buy the precursor?
Either playing tp…..not dabbling…really playing it…..or grinding the heck out of cof p1…hours every day same thing cof p1 cof p1 cof p1…etc you get the picture.
I’m not sure if it would work, but there are boulder consumables from queensdale…I wonder if you can use them to activate the switches like in ac story @ lovers?
We are aware of the reward discrepancy between dungeon and open world boss loots, and we’re trying to resolve things. As you may have noticed though, the new open world chests caused a problem with our economy that we are trying to fix, so bringing dungeon chests up to that level would only further hurt the economy.
As for the increased yellow loot supply causing “problem with our economy,” could you specify what exactly was deemed a problem? Ecto prices came down significantly but seemed to stay fairly stable in the mid-20s, which, given how much of them is needed in the endgame in comparison to the average player’s income, feels reasonable. If part of the problem was their value in comparison to other crafting mats, I would argue that the underlying problem there is that the other crafting mats are too scarce, not that ecto’s are too plentiful. When most players have to go out of their way to farm gold in order to afford things they need, intuitively that seems like an indicator that supply is too restricted.
Lastly, with regard to how to increase rewards in other areas of the game without further devaluing rares/ectos, may I suggest that the yield of lodestones and T6 fine mats be increased for doing dungeons etc. Perhaps make the daily dungeon reward chest have a loot bag similar to “Heavy Moldy Bag” but with decreased cloth and leather on the drop table. This gets two birds with one stone: the value of dungeon rewards are increased, and the scarcity of basic crafting mats is alleviated. And since you’re not handing out the same reward for all activities, it ensures that the reward from any particular activity is not devalued because not everyone gets them easily. Players that focus on one activity will not get everything they need, but they can obtain them via TP, supplied by the players that focus on a different activity.
I am also curious to how it threw off the economy. I know it was creating some coin from the merch value of greens and blues, but the rares? Cof p1 is surely creating more coin.
Now that I think about it more I would need to have more insight…what is meant by “problem”?
Stop for a sec there – at this moment in time the Ascended gear/fractals makes some more reluctant to play alts, as they cannot maintain a number of alts at the “top level” despite the fact that only a couple of pieces of gear have been “superceded”.
Can I get the link to where it was stated you’d need ascended gear for any other content, where it was stated that a verticle step from Fractals to upcoming encounters was intended? I want this stated in black and white as extrapolation is not
And that is assuming a lot of things that I normally point out are broken arguments.this forum’s strong suit.
Even IF all of the above falls into place it makes GW2 on par with other games for having “fully endgame” alts, and otherwise in every way kittens all over every other system. That is – the one tiny failed gripe that can be brought to bear on this topic can be viewed in a vacuum and likely won’t be relevant in couple of months.
Ofc it’s not stated. It’s the same as not needing exotic gear….or rare gear..or masterwork gear. The point of “you don’t need it” is the same as saying “u don’t need any armor at all”, which we know doesn’t exactly fly even though technically accurate.
I’m going to have to agree with the OP and Kilrain. As it currently stands there are definitely too many variables variables that the test group of 30 would not have encountered that effect guilds…..ie……testing in a lab =/= testing in ig. Not to mention that with the next update we will see 3 more targets which’ll have to be covered as well, only adding to the mayhem.
So another thing to add to the research queue. Will there be any thought to add a secondary asuran outsource or something of the like. As it stands smaller guilds will have to forego other bonuses to attempt to gain access to needed influence. Thus indirectly getting the shaft again, unless this thing is separate from the limited building queue.

Farming CoE should supplement your standard farming, but not replace it.
I’m going to have to disagree with this bit. Direct farming of sparks is horribly inefficient. Tbh I would avoid it as running CoE for cores is much more efficient. That aside both are inefficient compared to running CoFp1 or playing the tp and buying them. Granted I think it’s pretty poor design, but it is what it is.
There’s actually a lot of really good posts in the past explaining why people who “flip” items are good for the economy as a whole (drives transactions, helps buy/sell orders to converge to equilibrium).
I don’t want to debate it, but if you could point me in the direction of some of those so I may read them…it would be much appreciated.
I am honestly surprised that there is still some confusion about this upcoming change. So let me try to clarify it once more:
Current:
- You get one guaranteed rare (or better) per event per day per character from the event chest. Everything else in the event chest is based on normal drop chance, so there is a chance to get rares (or better) as well.
After the change:
- You get one guaranteed rare (or better) per event per day per account from an extra chest that will be displayed like the chest for the dailies. Everything else in the event chest is based on normal drop chance, so there is a chance to get rares (or better) as well.So the guaranteed rare is going to an account-based daily. Does that mean the “event chest” can go back to being looted more than once per day?
….It’ll be just like b4 they added the guaranteed rares…same crap chest lootable mutiple times a day via alts. The only difference will be an added little chest on the side which will have a rare+in it attched with account bound limitations.
And from what we all remember the normal drop chance blows…….<the reason for the countless threads prior which resulted in the change in the 1st place. It is the same for every standard drop in this game..the chances are not good resulting in an unrewarding feeling of play. That is why so many players gravitate towards Cof p1, trading on tp, and the current alt chest farm…..b/c normal play is NOT rewarding<—-there’s the main problem
(edited by Essence Snow.3194)
While I agree that there is no reason to reply to most threads…but some…ie…the major ones really seem to lack in any communication. That is what worries me. In most every service/product I can think of that is not acceptable. Imagine the lack of feedback on major concerns in any other industry…makes me cringe just thinking about it.
Thing is, ascended gear isn’t exactly necessary for alts though. If you geared it with full exotics, you are only a few % weaker than someone with full ascended accessories. I don’t play fotm a lot, I have grown bored of it but I don’t find it to be too tasking to get the rings at least.
As I have said before, that is why alts are called alts and mains are called main. You can’t expect all alts to be geared at the same level as your main even though full exotics are pretty much 99 % of the way there.
.
Since gw has always been about skin>stat…. I don’t find that valid. By that same logic one might as well say that exotics aren’t necessary….rares….masterwork….fine.
If you were to say the high value skins of weapons/armor (things like infinite light/cultural t3)…then I would agree
If you can speed clear CoE it is probably the best option because you have the chance of cores and you still get the silver drops like CoF. I rarely ever see lodestones though, cores are maybe an average of one per all 3 paths.
It really depends though, you can run 3 paths of CoE in about 30 minutes, compared to 4.5 paths of CoF. So you’re giving up less guaranteed gold an hour for a chance at cores/lodestones.
In terms of realistic farm in pugs though, CoF would be better since so many people run it and because it’s much simpler. CoE is only good if you run organized groups that know how to quickly do CoE.
Doesn’t 3 paths coe in 30mins mean using questionable tactics….3in1/2in1 etc?
Well I sure did a boatloads of cof P1 since then, which yields good progress but isn’t really fun (I’d like to farm the materials myself, but diminishing returns on farming spots make this less profitable as cof P1).
.
Less profitable is a major understatement. Farming t6 and lodestones (excluding dungeon cores) directly is not realistic. One’s best bet is to farm bags and that is a “grab bag” at best to which you might get. I really feel that someone over there should actually do a test of direct farming and feel how “reasonable” it actually is.
Save up and buy off the TP.
Imo buying them off the tp is not acceptable answer to the problem. Why? you might ask…Well if everyone saved up and bought them off the tp, there simply wouldn’t be enough. Thus at some point it would not be an option at all.
Do you guys really enjoy killing fire ele or the maw 5-8 times a day? I don’t, can’t imagine how anyone would.
Not really, but the variety, imo, was better than grinding cof p1 or shelter/penit for relatively decent reward compared to anything else in the game.
Guesting is more about more completing the bosses in a short period of time rather than anything else. Limiting alts will not change much there….ie…this doesn’t really fix guesting. During high concurrency there will still be guesting (if not more) and overflows.
Players with multiple alts actually had less reason to guest as they could/can switch toons to do the relatively short cycle boss (maw, fire ele), in the meantime when waiting for the longer cycle bosses.
With this change players with alts might be more likely to guest to get all the boss chest in short period of time since there is no comparative reason to not….ie…… there is less to do between that offers equal reward structure.
Tbh i have not guested b4 b/c I always had a fresh character ready for a chest on my home server. I probably will start guesting to complete my daily rounds in a timely manner once this change goes live.
Did you even read my breakdown of the change? It affects nothing!
You can alt all you want and still have good chances at rares. The only difference its not 100% chance for all the possible rares (1-3 from what I see now before this fix starts). The rates are so high even without the guarentee, you’ll still get a rare on top of the change.
I’m right and you’ll see.
After the one per chest per account/day the loot will go back to what it was b4…..and that was crapola unless u were one of the very lucky few
I have a feeling that during peak concurrency there will still be overflow issues and ofc ppl will still guest during said times.
What alt hate or penalisation?
Are you playing the same game as the rest of us?
Lets see…dyes, ascended items, fine t-stones, story mode dungeons, story mode post 50, fractals, this up coming chest change, and several others…..they are not hard to see.
Edit: penalize was probably a poor word choice.. maybe better would have been asking why that game is not alt friendly and why they keep making it less alt friendly?
(edited by Essence Snow.3194)
I simply don’t get it. The are too many different ways in which this game penalizes having alts. Why?
So after all the silence it turns out that the info gathered showed that the overflow problem was caused by players with alts?
So basically alts are a problem?
I had 50/50 within a few minutes of the HoM coming out….so I never really spent my gw1 cash. In other words I have tons still sitting there and I have already helped out those in my guild. I don’t have any extra minis (put 90 in there), but I do have 400 arms I was gonna buy a high end mini with that I nvr did, as well as a plethora of mats etc…
Give me a wisp here or ig (gw2) and chances r I can help you out.
Someone needs to watch the cutscene for a few seconds. During that time the player triggering the choices needs to talk to ferrah to get her intial dialog out of the way.
Grinding, as it commonly referred to in gaming, is the act of repeatedly doing tasks to achieve some goal. You can sugarcoat it all you like, but that’s exactly what you’re doing.
Go read more than the first two lines of the thread as well, you’ll notice I said I have no interest in a legendary while it’s nothing more than a grindfest.Somehow this flew over your head, I thought I made it pretty obvious, but I guess not. The main point is no matter how you go about getting your legendary, what it boils down to right now is doing the same things, over, and over, and over. There is nothing even remotely “legendary” about this. This is the point I’m trying to prove, and for some reason this concept is easily understood by people who haven’t wasted time on a legendary, likely because they realize it’s a mindless boring grind and a waste of time already, and flies over the heads of most of the people who have wasted time on a legendary. Maybe these people are just frantic to justify that the 200 hours they wasted doing the same things for months on end is meaningful, that’s the only logical explanation I can think of.
I understood you point…don’t be so quick to jump on a post.. all mine was saying is that the “grind” for a legendary is nothing more than grind for gold, which is mostly done via specific avenues: playing the tp, cof p1, or orr grind. Thus the methods of obtaining a legendary are basically those three things grinded, which believe it or not is in agreement with your setiment
I have yet to meet anyone that really grinded for anything other than gold for their legendaries. Then they simply buy what they need to avoid direct grinding.
Has there been any response in this thread yet?
Anywho…..there is another issue that is playing out as more and more guilds gain access to bounties. With hopes of completing these, guilds will most like schedule when they have the highest concurrency. Well, since the weekends fill that role the issue of guild competing over bounty npc’s arises.
I have noticed on multiple occasions that when I run across a bounty npc (on the weekend) there will be several players from different guilds surrounding it. Next thing ya know one of those player’s guilds show up and the bounty is killed and the other players are left scrambling.
Needless to say the ones left are none too happy.
If you already have 2 then you know the drill by now….either grind gold or play the tp. Grinding mats, using forge or waiting for pre drop, completing dailies/monthlies for coins,….basically playing content for it, is a bad idea in terms of efficiency.
The timer on the web site looks to keep resetting every hour, but really I think it should be every 2hr. Anet must of decided it was too frequent cause I remember it coming up much more often then it did last night for myself.
The 50mins on the timer is just the time from end of the Golem event to the pre-event window. The pre-event can be failed, which spawns a secondary event that’ll reset the primary pre-event.
Thus 50mins 20min window=70min
50min20min window+failed event+secondary kelp gather= a lot more than 70mins
Imo they should increase both the listing fee and the selling fee. I feel anything done to nudge players towards actual game content is a good thing. There is already enough incentive to use the tp, as it is the most effective means to almost every end in the game. Any step to “level the field”(if you will) would, imo, be more beneficial.
Learn how to play the trading post. Unfortunately this is by far (leaps and bounds) the most effective way to get a legendary. Once you understand it and set the tp know how into motion, then work on map completion, badges, and gaining karma. If your knowledge of the trading post is sufficient, it’ll work for you “behind the scenes” while you do the pieces that one actually needs to play content for.
why don’t you just grind the mats… or is this because you base your self worth and happiness off what other people think instead of what you want?
you want a grind legend so everyone knows you grinded for it…
You want to buy a legendary so people may think you played for it? See what I did there?
Kittenhattery aside, I don’t want this applied to current ones, nor do I want the method to obtain current ones removed/altered. Simply an addition. Where’s the harm in it? How does it effect you to have something like this added? Is there a fear that perceived status might be lost on purchasable items? Please clarify.
(edited by Essence Snow.3194)
Hi,
While working on filling my login medals I got to thinking about legendaries and how I feel about them. My main gripe about them is that you can buy mats to make them and/or just flat out buy them. To me this really cheapens the achievement that the login medal/weapon/title represents.
So I started to think “what would I like?”. Sweet and to the point, what I would like is to have an alternate legendary that is strictly based on game play alone. This would entail having ZERO purchasable components.
Maybe something along the lines of all dungeon gifts>dungeon master gift, 1000 wvw kills, map exploration, weapon master achievement, all jumping puzzle gift, etc etc…..
Ofc something like this would be of the same tier as current legendaries, but to me it would mean much, much more.
Hello.
I just saw the great news for WvW.
But since January Patch that I started to have Culling in PVE for the first times, mainly in Meta Events where even Mobs are Invisible sometimes!
Then, does the end of Culling affects also PVE? Or do we need to get used to “Invisible Events” in PVE?
I would like only to say, that I know Culling is also also about our Computer… but, the game must think in every kind of PCs, not only with high-end Ones.
The initial release of this system will be for WvW only. There are additional complications we need to solve with PvE due to the number and variety of creatures on screen that WvW doesn’t need to account for. Later this year, we’ll be expanding as much of the changes to the PvE open world as we can as well.
I can completely understand the need to push this off. However…
I would like to know why it feels like we are going backwards in terms of PvE? Before the culling changes that were meant for WvW we PvE players did not notice culling nearly as much (if at all) as we do now. Can we not change the PvE world back to where it was back in November/December? Where we had 100+ people on screen during the Lost Shore events with little to no culling? What exactly changed between then and now to make the game engine run so badly that we are forced to have major culling in PvE?
I would also like to know this, but I highly doubt we will ever get any info on it. My guess would be that we only “perceive” these issues….lol…and that nothing was changed that would effect our game play experiences.
Remember a ways back there was a Power Trader item on the tp? Maybe this “bug” is a result of that functionality’s partial implementation and not being fully removed?
People with a bunch of legendaries play the TP.
I think this is the most probable answer.
For quite some time now I have been upgrading my masterworks to rares and my rares to exotics. I’m not sure if this theory is all in my head or what, but I have been able to reliably upgrade what I want. Let me explain:
Even though each forge is supposed to be an independent occurrence, I have noticed with reliable predictability, my chances of upgrading seem to become much higher after a long string of failures (non upgrades). It is for that reason that I use forge fodder.
For example I will throw in a bunch of low value items in an attempt to get a long string of failures. After I achieve that, then I will throw in what I really want upgraded.
Now I understand this might all be in my head, but out of my last 17 combines of rares in the mf, I have returned 13 exotics.
I have only recently started to keep track of my attempts, so I don’t have much hard data to go on, but have been doing this for while though with pretty reliable success.
Anyways, if any of you decide to try this, I hope it pans out for you as well as it does for me.
Without some sort of stated odds (or found odds) the gambling of the mf is much worse than a casino. If one were to compare anything in this game, the most suited would be the cow launcher where one can gamble 50s per go. The gambling that it offers actually has decent odds yet not many players play it. I wonder why?
So after figuring out the Golem event I started to wonder what other lesser known events had their chests updated.

Mawage is wot bwings us togeder tooday. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam wifin a dweam… And wuv, tru wuv, will fowow you foweva…So tweasure your wuv.
I think it’s bugged for everyone. I know I have 390/400 in the hero section and all I’m missing is the bugged mailbox is full hint. It really would be nice to have it fixed.
I have all 80s on all 8. I made an extra thief because I preferred a human to a sylvari.
I sorta did the same. I had all 8 then made a second thief (human female) b/c it turn out all my medium armor toons were either male charr or asura. I’m glad I did as she basically replace my 1st thief (asura male). Aslo have a second war, but she is a key farmer so she doesn’t get past lvl 5 b4 she gets remade.
Had 9 of them geared out in exo’s….ascended is proving to be much more of a pita…dern time gates.
It’s a collectable, thus deposit all collectables removes it from your inventory and puts it into your bank. Check there.
It is so funny see those who scream in the forums that AC its impossible at lvl 35 saying now tons of silly excuses to deny the fact: AC is perfect doable at 35, period.
If green, if yellow, if blues, if sigils, if runes, if knowledge… Jeez, this game is about skill and use your brain to defeat the dungeons nothing else.
Tbh I have only seen one “silly excuse” (the guardian one), everything else (actually only 1 person) has simply been clarifying in this thread.
Looks like it’ll be added to the site on Monday…..good stuff!
If you put emphasis on bang for buck go amd. If you want to focus on nvidia realated titles, PhysX, just prefer the nvidia brand more….go nvidia
A stock 660 should edge out a stock 7850, however an OC 7850 should edge out a 660.
Have done four tests today on FA one finishing at 11:05 est and second finishing at 12:45 est both granted rares for everyone involved. Third try finished at 1:45 est…. same results…..4th 2:40 est same result
I think the pre window starts around 45mins after chest spawns.
