Update…I went and tested The Golem Mark II and it’s Inquest Reward Chest…..it looks like it DID get updated as everyone doing the event (in my instance) got at least 1 rare. Ofc further testing will help confirm w/o shadow of a doubt.
I’m very surprised this got overlooked by the mass player base…very nice call Geekfox!
Now to get the timer updated to include this event.

I consistently beat my head against a brick wall farming blk’s and hoping to get fine stones. I use the lvl 10 story method for keys , but the rng of getting a stone is horrendous. ( I have a personal objection to buying them directly)
So I take it those people in chat who link 20+ commendations are just exploiting or lying?
They are getting their commendations from multiple guilds.
I thought commendations are linked to character/account, not guild?
I think you are correct. I have done bounties back to back in separate guilds and did not receive any extra commendations. Ofc my one experience is not indicative of definitive occurance, but oh well.
There is code to link anything in the game that you do not have in your bags. So people linking 20+ commendations are just trolling you.
Interesting. Happen to know where such a thing might be found?
So just out of curiosity what is this supposed to be showing? Exp players on lvl 35-40 alts, who are familiar with the new changes, non-pug, with green lvl gears?
It’s supposed to be showing that the dungeon is completable with the stats and abilities a level 35 character provides a player.
It is not trying to prove that you can play like an idiot and still easily complete AC, which seems to be what people are starting to demand. (y u no undergeared with 0 communication???)
Ty for the clarity on the purpose of this experiment. That aside I don’t really see the point in the experiment.
It should be a no brainer that in a best case scenario (lvl 35 aside) that ofc it’s possible. With practice, smooth runs would ofc eventually emerge. So I guess what I’m getting at is “what’s the point of an experiment that proves something that’s basically common sense?”.
Now if it were trying to test the most likely scenario that would be something different. I’m not exactly sure what that would be, so I cannot make a comment on it w/o further discussion.
I’m my mind it would be better to set out to question the intentions of the lvl barrier. Imo since only Anet can answer that, our conclusions are rather meaningless. If we had privy to the intentions, then we could set out to prove whether or not the content is suitable in correlation to the intention of the recommended/barrier lvl.
(edited by Essence Snow.3194)
I was just wondering if we could get that info (what all changed) as part of the patch/update notes?
Do you or anyone else know if it’s chest received the updated loot? Once I get back ig I’ll check it out.
You get rares from the Inquest Resources chest. I got Jaws of Death from it 5 days ago.
Guaranteed rares?
I wasn’t even aware that people farmed anything other than CoF p1. If you’re looking to maintain some semblance of sanity and personhood, then by all means, continue farming events in Orr. If you’re looking for the fastest way to amass the items you need for a legendary, however, it’s time to to empty your head of all thoughts and join the crowd of zombies farming gold from CoF p1.
I have been doing CoF path one, and it isn’t really that much money for me. Unless I use the skill points I get from it as well to increase my profits, I don’t really go anywhere with it. The money gets hit by DR to the point where getting 6s per run isn’t that efficient.
I’m confused. How does one only get 6s per run? It’s my understanding the the first boss alone drops 10s…14s w/omonom bars.
So just out of curiosity what is this supposed to be showing? Exp players on lvl 35-40 alts, who are familiar with the new changes, non-pug, with green lvl gears?
Of course not, but BLSK drop reasonably often from dailies. Ever since the laurels have come out, I’ve gotten 3 BLSK from the dailies, which is not too shabby.
I think your luck with dailies is better than most, well possibly I just have bad luck. I think I’ve had 1 blsk bonus from dailies since launch and I’ve only missed 1 daily.
Back to OP, I agree with others the main thing to use them for is the runes/sigils of high value.
Would be really nice if they stacked like the pvp ones.
Because Megadestroyer isn’t a world boss like Shadow Behemoth or the dragons.
If you’re looking for a world boss in Mount Maelstrom, go to Whitland Flats and complete the event chains to summon Golem Mark II. Bring everyone you can.
Not everyone knew about this world boss. I wonder why.
Do you or anyone else know if it’s chest received the updated loot? Once I get back ig I’ll check it out.
I don’t believe guesting is the cause of the overflow issues, but it’s not helping either. In most cases that I have seen ppl guest for these events because of convenient timing.
If someone only has a certain amount of playtime available and their home server is on cool down for a particular event, then guesting becomes the solution. The level of which someone regards server population prior to guesting, I would assume becomes a secondary consideration, if considered at all.
To me the major issue here is server efficiency. We know that the servers/client perform/s substandardly (don’t think that’s actually a word) when filled. We also know that they lowered the capacity on each server to combat the performance issues. That imo is a “band-aid fix”.
Anywho without addressing the underlying problem of server efficiency, I guess they could dress the wounds a bit better than just with the current “band-aid”. Some ideas off the top of my head would include:
*Randomizing the events so timers would not funnel populations
*Have guests require invites (easy work around for not knowing players on a particular server would be a thread on these forums)
*Keep current lower server capacities but allow home buffer capacity.
But, ofc the main solution would be for them to improve server efficiency.
Protip: Cultural tier 1 gear is lv 35, yellow and has great stats for your first dungeon run.
There’s no reason to not be in yellows by 35 other than being unable to afford it.
Lionguard weapons at 40 for karma, pirate jumping puzzle weapons… there’s lots of vendors that have stuff fo you to level up in assuming you don’t spend all your cash/karma on junk.
There’s a lot of ways for you to stay out of blue gear problem being that most players don’t know this stuff exists.
Tbh I think that masterwork gear is more reasonable till 80. Why would anyone want to waste currency on rare gear that’ll just be out leveled in a few hours? Considering how much coin things cost post 80, I would advise against wasting coin pre 80 and skip the <80 rares all together.
“The 397 guy” :-D.
Conspiration theories are really getting out of hand about the TP.
Simple lack of knowledge of the default =/= conspiracy.
Conspiracy theories about everything being a conspiracy theory are really getting out of hand.
See what I did there^^
Put in 4 named and chances are pretty high the toilet troll will spit a non-named back at ya.
So I read though this thread and still really didn’t see any answers……
Are the rewards limited to attempts?
ex)Guild kills 1 of 2 in tier one..Are they limited to that one failed attempt for 1 week?
Are the tiers limited?
ex) Can a guild get rewards from tier 1 one day then tier 2 the next?
If a tier is failed via partial kill or no kill at all, can it be attempted again for guild merits within the same week?
Can a guild do multiple tiers within a day?
So -if Guild Missions were expanded to allow something for small guilds to do – how exactly is that ‘trivializing’ the large-scale bounties?
What if they offered a single guild bounty hunt worth 5 guild merits that is achievable by a small group and only offers 1 personal commendation?
You’re still looking at12 weeks for enough commendations for an earring and many more weeks to use the guild merits on upgrades. That wouldn’t trivialize larger group effort and is a compromise for smaller groups. It’s just a suggestion on my part.
There really does need to be incentives for group content in MMO’s, it’s always been that way. These games are always more fun when you get out and meet some new people in the gameworld. Honestly, we all share a common passion for the genre so we at least have that much in common. It’s not like everyone you run into is the anti-you out to ruin your experience. The question still has not been answered. What does it take away from or “hurt” a large guild if small guilds can do SOMETHING too?
It takes away the MMO. It takes away the accomplishment of many people working together to accomplish a goal or task. If that isn’t something that appeals to you I’m not sure why you play the genre. One thing (guild missions) out of everything you can do in this game doesn’t conform to your small guild and you act as if your sky is falling.
That still does not answer the question. HOW does it take anything away? The large guild still exists. The large content can still exist. The only thing that is added, is a smaller group can do it too.
Again, how does that take anything away?
Is there even any reasoning with you?
I look back to my 6 years playing FFXI and remember nothing of value could be accomplished without large group effort. Threads like this and posters like you would be laughed out of the forums. Fast forward a few years and all of a sudden people think it’s legitimate to complain about everything they don’t like in a game as if it’s somehow possible to please millions of people in the same game. As if all content is amazing for every gamer out there.
It’s pretty simple really, either do the content or don’t. If there’s content you want to do and there’s prerequisites for the content (having enough people), then get enough people. The devs clearly wanted to add larger group content to the game. If you don’t want to do it, then don’t. Go on playing like the content isn’t there and if you feel you need the earrings, save up your laurels and ectos.“Threads like this one” meaning this thread…which was actually started by Anet….
Again, question not answered. What does a small guild being able to participate in these events take away from a large guild?
I might be assuming a bit here, but I would venture to say they want exclusivity. Basically “we want to keep it this way so others can’t access it to make ourselves feel special”. Aside from that I really cannot fathom any reason.
I undercut mainly b/c I dislike the tp. I will continue to do anything and everything I can to hinder those using it solely to gain wealth. As I do not really care about my personal wealth, watching ppl post about how ppl like me upset them, is my reward. As tp players upset many players its just my way of balancing things out……tc and hf
Dyes…..15 chars
Wholeheartedly agree that something should be added to sm dungeons. I also agree w/ a lot of the posters here that sm is actually harder/longer than a lot of the exp paths (case in point cof sm and cof p1/2).
Does the new hair kit dealio apply to hair accessories as well or just hair?
I think I recall somewhere that they said they wouldn’t advance past ascended this year. Who knows were/how far it’ll progress down the road.
My concern is that as guild leader I dont see a button on the roster to un-represent, only Step Down. I dont want to give up my leadership spot and if the other members leaves and I Step Down to join another guild does the Nobles get deleted? I would hate to have all that time and influence spent to get our banks and other stuff unlocked be wasted on joining another guild that might end up not being a guild I enjoy playing with.
Once you join another guild and you go to the guild UI [G] on the left hand side of the UI there will be a list of guilds you are currently a member of. Click on one of them and at the bottom of the roster there will be a "represent " option you may click. This allows you to represent another guild w/o changing/effecting your role in other currently joined guilds. You can also be leader of multiple guilds.
PS…Don’t use the “stand down” option.
I kinda like this idea. It keeps guesting in place for it’s intended purpose, yet drastically hinders complete free roaming.
Ofc I am biased as I have 9 lvl 80s, but I think the guesting deal is more of an issue.
Just curious to why this meta event didn’t get a loot upgrade?
Since the patch and ofc the updated rewards there has been an increase in players at each dragon event. Along with the influx of player severe lag has made the event almost unplayable. This also effects rewards due to skills not being able to be cast, targeting issues, and disconnects.
At each event map chat is filled with chatter about said lag, so it would appear this is widespread.
Hopefully if this whole ordeal does anything it’ll encourage them to take a closer look at their test servers and why repeated discrepancies keep occurring between it and live servers.
Post deserving of it’s own thread
I really think that should have it’s own thread instead of being buried here, which would be a shame.
While my guild is not having issue with influence, I am not blind to see/understand the concerns of smaller guilds. It’s pretty obvious that this will have effect, not only on the new content, but on the growth/survival of smaller guilds. Essentially this raises “barriers to entry” that will only make start-up guilds and smaller guilds that much more difficult to prosper. A very poor choice imo.
The big question here:
Is the reward of Commendations, Rares/Exos, Precursor Chance, and 50s available to everyone who helps complete a mission, or just the guild members of the guild that triggered it?
From what I read in the FSC (Massively), those rewards are only for the guild members that started the events, other people just get normal event rewards.
On Sanctum of Rall we have formed a guild alliance so that small guilds can participate.
Check your server’s reddit or website to see if they are doing the same thing.
Can people who guest on other servers join guilds on that server?
yes you can join a guild on any server. There may be some restrictions but i’m not 100% sure.
Thanks. Guess I’m gonna have to find a large guild now, so I can get good rewards for helping with these.
And there in lies part of the problem…….If this ends up being like it sounds players will scatter from smaller guilds and flock to larger ones.
I really hope this is not how this pans out….even though I’m not in a small guild
Completely depends on how it’s implemented. Much like the quasi test scatter plot…..the distribution over the segmented rng would imo better. In that manner there would be less variance between the high and the low thus one player wouldn’t have as great of a chance to have horrid rng.
50000 influence? Really?
Yeah it looks like smaller guilds will be getting screwed
CoF p1 nerf, CoE exploit closure, and ^^
High level stones only come from black lion chests and gemstore I believe.
My characters will be forever ugly because of this. I wish there was another means of acquisition.
Absolutely agree. Earlier on b4 the additions to the blc they were more common. Now they seem to one of the rarer drops from blc’s. This inturn makes the gem shop the only reliable/sufficient way of obtaining them.
As a player with 9 lvl 80s I have zero use for the multitude of regular transmutation stones I receive from map completions. They don’t even vendor so they are more of a hindrance than anything else. I’d rather get t5 leather if that says anything. I really wish they would add an option to turn regular stones in fine even at a rate of 25:1, would please me immensely vs current option of right click/destroy.
For dungeons 40%-90%…let me explain….omnom bars 30%, guild buff 10%, and option mf booster 50%. Aside from that I would not run any stat replacing mf.
For Orr 147%-197%…full superior gears (armor/weapon), banners, booster, peach tart (gf is relatively useless in open world), and full mf trinkets, but only only only while in a farming group would I use the booster. There is no point wasting the booster on lesser amounts of drops. MF in Orr farming groups is not just accepted it’s the standard.
We know that supply influences demand. We know that players desire/preferences also influence demand. We know that there are numerous other variables that influence demand. Demand is not limited to one factor.
Honestly I’ve never considered that rarity in supply could increase demand and therefore price. I’m not all that into the “numbered limited edition” market of collectibles or pay too much attention to what the Jones’ recently bought.
It doesn’t. See Ursans example above regarding the non desirable precursors. Same supply as the desired precursors but virtually no demand. Thus low prizes.
Like in the real world if people ingame know that their potential customers are not willing to buy their products (no demand) the supply is meaningless.
As it doesn’t matter whether noone wants to buy 1 or 20 undesired items.
I beg to differ. There are multiple other factors that influence the price/demand. These factors influence each other as well. So in turn the rarity influence of said item (venom) is only part of the total demand and other factors weigh more. Thus the rarity has a smaller influence on price in it’s specific case.
Now consider the staff Final Rest. Yeah it might look nice (which is part of the demand for it), but why else do people want it? Why is there such demand for it? Why would it sell for at least the price of a legendary if not more? I contend that among other factors the rarity plays a huge role into why the demand for it is such. It weighs much more than looks in it’s case.
We can see that each item has it own set of influences, each of which vary and are dependent on the item itself.

We know that supply influences demand. We know that players desire/preferences also influence demand. We know that there are numerous other variables that influence demand. Demand is not limited to one factor.
We also know that this is a game where not all rl rules apply. They may try to adhere to some rl rules/laws, but at the end of the day we know that what works in rl does not necessarily work ig.
That said….the argument I mostly see is….well…….beating a dead horse. It seems that one side is saying “Anet controls the prices”, while the other is saying “the players control the prices”. Even though both have admitted to the other having some validity, the mule like debate continues. If we were to replace “control” with something more applicable…say…“influence”, then we could perhaps stop beating on that dead horse. Then we might be able come to the conclusion that both sides are right to an extent and move on to the degree of which each “influences” the price.
Wait wait wait. I had no idea Anet is forcing me to sell my Dusk for 700 Gold. So if I were to put mine for sale at 400 Gold, will I be banned for not following the rules?
Man, this game just got so much more complicated.
Drop rates. Supply.
Learn to read.
demand. how does ANet control demand? because supply is only half equation for price.
Rarity influences demand in a game like this. It could be the ugliest, blandest, most pathetic thing, but if it’s rare players will seek it for exclusivity. If it’s common as leaves on a tree, well that’ll also effect demand. It’s the name of the game, and I if might add, common knowledge.
ty for posting…as I was just about to search for that info
After the update/patch last night we (my guild) are unable to queue any bonuses via the guild upgrade UI. I have had other guildies that have permissions as well to try to no avail.
I’m a bit confused and maybe someone could clarify? Wouldn’t guild chat and guild tag color serve this purpose if only grouping with guildies seeing how they will all be in guild roster?
I think I must be the only person that shakes his head in sadness whenever I see yet another one of these.
Definitely not alone.
PS~don’t touch my oreo’s or root beer (<—wonder if anyone got that?)
On topic: Varying story lines have varying difficulties. That said various players have varied experiences playing said story lines.
Tangent to topic: After lvl 50 all the stories merge and completing it on multiple characters it becomes redundant. I’ve done the Battle for Claw Island on 9 toons (keys), played 2 to 59(400 letter), 2 to lvl 73 (helping guildies), and 1 complete the story. The only reason I can see to repeat after 50 would be the letters at 59, the letters at the end, and the pact weapons, which imho are not worth the time spent. Breaking it down it’s 1400 influence and a pact weapon or the equivelent of 1.4g+1.6g=3g. Since you can buy both influence and pact weapons, one’s time is better spent elsewhere.
Driven by players…..influenced by Anet<—-moto
The only influence Anet has in the gem market (besides their initial algorithm to calculate conversion rates) is to put items in the gem store for players to buy with gems.
It just so happens that a LOT of people want the things that were just put “on sale” in the gem store. It’s a funny thing how a 20% off “sale” on more storage gets people flocking to the gem store to convert their in-game gold to gems…..then complain about the conversion rate.
No one HAS to buy the things in the gem store. No one HAS to convert their gold to gems to do so. Anet just said….“Hey…here ya go. Buy it if you want. It’s on sale.”
Anet makes money selling gems for real money. Besides the initial purchase of the game, that’s really their only way to do so. Putting highly sought after account / character upgrades on sale in the gem store is sure to boost their sales numbers. Good for them. I love this game. I want to see them succeed….and to do so, they need to make money.
Oh I agree it’s a perfect way to boost sale of gems from rl cash.
My whole thing about the influence is just that….w/o them doing anything the rates stay relatively stable. Only when they “influence” it does it change substantially.
Driven by players…..influenced by Anet<—-moto
All legendaries are equally valuable to people looking to fill the seal on the log in page.
Except Sunrise and Twilight which are currently featured not to do that. Ironically enough, they’re the most desired legendaries along with Bifrost.
Which is funny, because you just presented a nice counter-argument against those who claim that Anet is “pushing” legendaries on to everyone because of the seal, and that this is affecting prices.
I have to admit that’s valid, it is the reason I changed from “going for twilight” to “idk at this point…lol…maybe dreamer” is because of that seal/achievement. But I am sorta inclined to believe they will “fix” that discrepancy, so I’m still sorta torn (oooo space flavored). Either way my progression is at the same point for most of them…..just need one final piece.
That said tbh I am also a bit hesitant due to the chance of new legendaries being introduced that are less monetary based and more achievement based. I would hate to finish crafting a monetary based one then come to find out I used my gifts of mastery or any other common component (complete assumption that it would be used again) on (in my opinion) a less prestigious legendary.
(edited by Essence Snow.3194)
I believe Jeffrey is mistaken, as my guild and I kill Shadow Behemoth anywhere from 10-20 times (each of us individually) in a single day across different servers, and we each get the chest each time. There have been instances early on where we missed one chest, but the chest not spawning seems to be related to only damaging the boss during the event and not hitting any of the portals or doing the pre-event at all. We all make sure we kill portals and mobs, as well as attack Shadow Behemoth. If the chest isn’t supposed to be obtainable that frequently, could it be bugged?
I would like to find out what Anet’s stance is on switching servers/guesting to access multiple chests. I would like to partake, but something inside me says sketchy.
They need a totally new way to obtain the Precursors, plain and simple.
Why? Everyone can get a legendary eventually.
If everyone had one the name legendary would not be fitting.
Quote:
dev q&a november 16th quote: With Isaiah Cartwright:
The gap we’ve talked about is more the game in time we everyone to have achievable goals that players can look forward to. Legendary are very long term goals and we want to make sure they are layered in with other interesting goals a player can accomplished while on their way to finishing a legendary.
I specially highlighted the quote.
Source :
http://www.guildwarsinsider.com/qa-with-isaiah-cartwright/Why, you ask?..because, it shouldn’t take any longer to get, than the “gifts” that go with it. I can name MANY people, that have been playing since LAUNCH, and crafted ALL THREE “gifts”, that have NOT received their precursor. No matter WHAT they do. Having precursors on an RNG system was a TERRIBLE idea, and NEEDS TO CHANGE…period.
If I work half the week am I surpised that saturday is still a bit off on wednesday?
They knew what they where up to when they started and that the precursor is a significant bit of the grind for a legendary. There are 2 ways to obtain a precursor: a) Money and b) extreme luck (either drop or mystic toilet). This is just wrong! Players should get a legendary for actually playing the game, not through money grind or this stupid rng system. Like doing all dungeons, or JPs or explore the world or doing events, etc… It should be something you can buy for maybe 5000 achievement points or so. That way the player can choose what to do to get it. He can do what he likes. But he has something to do for it. Earning 5000 Points isnt that easy. That would be something i would like. Not money farm or luck.
I agree with this idea. I just hit 5000 points last week, and i’ve been playing since launch. For an normal player, it would take quite a while to get to that point, so it fits into the “it must be hard to get” category.
Ofc as noted in another thread points like agent of atrophy and hobby dungeon whatever would need a cap or be removed from consideration.
When did I say worthless mats wouldn’t be worthy of a legendary? I said worthless mats would make legendaries worthless. Reading comprehension.
Pretty sure that’s how it’s supposed to be. If materials were easy to farm, they’d be worthless and so would legendaries. Anet doesn’t want that but they’ve given everyone a worthy alternative: farm gold (which is painfully easy) then buy what you need. That’s how you’re supposed to do it.
Just to humor you…..the bolded bit is where I reckon I took “worthy alternative” to make the other “alternative” in this case the mats “unworthy”. This is due the addition of the adjective “worthy” being used to describe the noun “alternative”. Thus offering that one of the reasons there was a difference was the “worthiness”.
That aside…..now we have gotten to the point of semantics, which is not adhering to the topic at hand and as such I’ll relinquish to the current matter……..You’re right!
