For me it’s about trying to make the game better for everyone while we have it. If I’m not doing that…well then I’m not helping anyone and I should go on my merry way.

This issue is one that effects many players. In the past we saw “perceived loot issues”. Had some not spoken up chances are nothing would have happened. Now it’s better, but it’s still not where it could be to benefit the game.

There are many many things both in games and in rl that have become better b/c ppl have spoken out.

I’m finding it difficult to understand where you are coming from. At one end I think maybe you think, by posting our thoughts we are of detriment to the community? At another maybe that you feel the game is perfect? Idk……

No offense, but that was a lot of fluff to say basically “you have no reason to expect anything”, which I do not agree.

If one were to get nothing but spikes, by your logic, that would be perfectly fine and pointless to expect anything but. I do not accept that rational as reasonable.

I believe that we should expect that a major component of the game should have such characteristics to where it is not in direct conflict with the game’s primary mission. I expect that if something detracts fun from the game, that something is not working as intended. After all what good is a game if it is not fun?

I remember each of the 3…yeah 3, open world exotic drops I have gotten in my 2,772 hours of play. I highly expect my ratio to be 1:1000 hrs and yeah I do expect better b/c that is pathetic at best.

Thanx for proving my point… if you expect to see a pattern come out of random events, then I can almost guarantee disappointment.

Shortly after I began following the dragon timer and getting those bonus chests, I got two exotics. One from a chest, the other from the Mystic Forge, on two consecutive days. It’s been about two weeks since then and I haven’t seen another. I never got an exotic before, and I may never get another exotic drop, or I could get one tomorrow. I have no expectations.

So your point is that those 3 drops I have had is only pathetic in my mind? That we should not expect loot at all in a game where loot is a major aspect of said game? Maybe we shouldn’t expect stories, dungeons, modern graphics, or anything for that matter?
Where is that line? What should be expected from this type of game? I feel that my expectations are completely reasonable given the context of the game. Expectations are not all unreasonable or unfounded.

I’m wondering what would happen to the luck of some farmers if they spent like 2-3 hours just running around a low level zone, in an attempt to reset their DR. Yeah, I know, you wont’ get as much loot, but it’s worth the experiment if it upsets you so much. Either get a friend, or play some music, give it a try and see if it resets the DR (if that indeed is the problem).

It’s a good idea, as it fits with the anti-DR sentiment that you shouldn’t remain in one area too long. But I think the problem has more to do with perception than reality.

No one can say what loot he should have gotten, but didn’t. The program doesn’t tell you, “you can’t have (item) because you’re in DR… go do something else for 20 min and come back.” So how much is RNG being RNG and how much is a player’s expectations that he deserves a specific grade of loot because it’s been a while since (rarity) dropped?

Random means that 11111 occasionally happens just like any other particular combination of numbers. Gamblers can convince themselves that they’re “hot” when they win a few times in a row, then luck can turn on them in an instant. People naturally want to find patterns in random events, even though there are none to find.

Memory plays tricks on us, too. You might forget the three rares you got last week that were “only” worth 15 silver each, but the exotic worth 15 gold you got a month ago still seems as fresh in your mind as if you opened the chest an hour ago. So when someone says they’re getting nothing but junk, you remember the big score a month ago and say “yeah, I haven’t got anything worthwhile in weeks!”

I can’t say that DR never applies to players, or even that it’s working perfectly. But I think a large part of the complaints are the results of unrealistic expectations. I never raided in other games, but I did take part in a “raid rift” once in Rift, and at the end of the encounter, there were about three or four pieces of valuable loot that were handed out to players by random roll. The other fifteen or so people who were there (maybe more I don’t remember) got the “normal” rewards but didn’t get any special loot. Is this normal? If so, how many raids do you go to where you don’t get that super-awesome sword or mega-heavy armor piece? The bonus chest may not always be a valuable item, but at the very least it’s guaranteed to be something you can salvage or sell.

Do you fully gear up in ten raids or less? Or twenty? Thirty?

I don’t think the system was set up to hand out rares and exotics like beads at Mardi Gras. I don’t think that Magic Find is supposed to guarantee good loot. But I think that a lot of people had unrealistic expectations, and that the bonus chest with a guaranteed rare was a concession to them, just like Ascended gear is a bone thrown to the progression crowd.

And I think that a lot of the problems are in players’ heads, not the game.

I remember each of the 3…yeah 3, open world exotic drops I have gotten in my 2,772 hours of play. I highly expect my ratio to be 1:1000 hrs and yeah I do expect better b/c that is pathetic at best.

Can I ask the thieves why they think incinerators are so cool? You know your footsteps show in stealth, right? That’s why the good thieves go for The Dreamer. No footsteps. :P

I never thought about that…that’s actually pretty funny.

Back ot: None of them…fractal weapons are more “legendary” (that terms has basically lost it’s meaning given the context) than any of them imo. They actually require doing something other than gold accumulation. Make ingredients bound so they cannot be bought and I will revert my opinion, but as it stands all I can think is tp player or cof grinder, which neither are “legendary”.

I wouldn’t even bother replying to them (it should be obvious to whom I am referring)……..every post of theirs is along the same lines and replying to them never goes anywhere…ie waste of time even acknowledging the posts.

That said…..there’s basically not much we can directly do to change anything in the game. What we can do is to make sure ppl have knowledge about the games ins and out…the positives and negatives so that they may make a more informed decision on spending their money.

If you don’t like something ig….put it out the via the many channels we have available via the internet. If you like something do the same. Eventually there will be enough info out there that patterns will emerge (a lot already have) and hopefully the devs will take heed of the patterns to change things for the betterment of the game, since in most cases it will have the added benefit of increase revenues. If not well…….I’ll end on this rather crude quote: “You can’t fix stupid!”

Southsun update May 14th

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Essence Snow.3194

Keep the Peace on Southsun Cove
Inspector Ellen Kiel of the Lionguard has been tasked with restoring order to the island, but she can’t do it alone. In this all-new content, you’ll partner with Kiel to protect the settlements on Southsun Cove and uncover the source of the mysterious animal attacks!

Blow Off Steam with New Crab Toss Game!
To keep their minds off their troubles, the settlers on Southsun Cove have created a rugged new beach game: Crab Toss! In this instanced mini-game, players try to score points by capturing a hermit crab and withstanding karka attacks. It’s fun in the sun, Southsun-style!

Introducing Traps in World vs. World
Traps are fiendish items that can be purchased from the new Traps and Tricks Outfitters on each WvW map. We’re starting with anti-stealth fields and traps that remove supply from enemy players, but in the months ahead we’ll introduce even more ways to spread mayhem in the Mists!

EB jumping puzzle split
The Eternal Borderlands jumping puzzle will be split from the EB map so that it’s population will not count against the EB cap.

Not slated for the 14th, but in testing are as follows:

Get More Out of WvW
We’re improving the way we award World XP to World vs. World players! Now you’ll gain rewards for a much wider range of activities in the Mists – everything from destroying siege weapons, repairing walls, escort missions, and more.

The End of Culling
We wiped out culling in World vs. World, and now we’re doing the same in the Living World. By removing the limit on the number of characters you can see, we’re increasing the epic feel of exploring through a fully-populated world.

I feel farming is mandatory, so why keep nerfing it?

Essence Snow.3194

It takes a lot more than a couple of rich players to change the flow of the market.
Everyone are willing to pay these prices, there aren’t these imaginary rich players who keep purchasing precursors.

Just a couple of days ago, there was a player who earned 1kg by playing the game over a long time, he bought both Dusk and Dawn, just a regular player like most people or the OP here.

As long as there are people who are willing to pay those prices, the rarity will remain the same.

The numbers of 1 and 2 were only to simplify what’s going on, but evidently I should elaborate a bit further.

We have limited supply of certain items. Those items’ prices are not dependent on the entire community’s willingness. It only takes a portion of the community to set said prices. As long as A (number of players with elevated capital creating demand) is greater than B (supply of said items), then C (everyone else) have zero bearing on price.

These are not imaginary players. These are the tp players, the cof grinders, the “enthusiasts”, etc. They have capital far beyond the majority of the player base. Their numbers (by virtue of a massive player base) are enough to exceed supply on many items. Notice I’m not saying precursors…this applies to a lot of things and should not be limited as such.

As for Sunday, the player you are referring…if you noticed the 29 stacks of deadly blossums, 4 stacks of ecto, 104 unident dyes, the 101 onyx lodestones, 88 pristine relics, the multiple stacks of mats, and a bank tab slider which eludes to min of 5 tabs on top of the 1k g or that they have played on average 7hrs every day for 7 months….this is not your average player…that should be plainly obvious.

Essence Snow.3194

OP, even me with 0 understanding of economics can figure out this simple chain reaction… now stay with me and read carefully:

High valued precursors prices drop by 300g each (by becoming more common) —> T6 mats prices go up.

Another example we’re experiencing right now:
World boss chests spawn a 100% rare loot per day per account —> Certain mats prices go higher due to ectos becoming cheaper. This has globably shifted a lot of mats prices since they are all tied together in one way or another.

Creating better farming spots or destroying ones, does not make things harder for everyone.
The value of all the items on TP is decided by the community, by putting together everyone’s capabilities in getting them.
So if you can’t get gold fast enough, you need to get on with the program, and stop being so persistent, others made it better that you. Ask yourself how and don’t be too lazy to figure it out.

Also, an argument of “I’d rather play the game my way” won’t hold water, why?
Because you bloody farm 8-18 hours a day, and if that was fun for you, then you wouldn’t have made this topic.

All t6 are tied to dust…..the drop rate of dust.

Something you are forgetting is that the whole community is not needed to determine prices. As long as a portion of players exceeds the supply of an item, that portion has the ability to set prices…..ie if 1 item drops and 2 of the richest players are willing to pay x amount above everyone else for it…it doesn’t matter what the rest of the community decides.
Get on with the program of playing tp or grinding quick easy paths? That’s…..well think about it a bit and see if it really makes sense in terms of a mmorpg’s overall health.

There are plenty of programs that utilize the tp data that can be used outside the game to tell you how to play the tp. They will tell you what to buy, when to buy, and even when to sell. There is no skill involved, risk is minimal, and it makes one of the worse things in this game easy. Only real drawback is that it’s not fun for most. Still kinda sad though if ya think about it……

It’s part pf the game that everyone paid for…thus they have paid for the right to be able to obtain everything in it.

I don’t have nearly the time to respond to all the things I want to in this thread, but this claim is just absurd.

Purchasing a game doesn’t grant anyone any “rights” beyond the EULA and ToS right to access the the software in compliance with Anet’s stated terms. That’s it. No other rights exist whatsoever. This is not a point of debate, contention, or discussion. It’s absolute fact. Put simply, if you disagree with that statement, you are wrong.

We could have a huge philosophical debate as to what privileges should be granted to users on the basis of the their financial transaction with Anet. Within that discussion, an incredibly small minority might argue for “the right to be able to obtain everything in [GW2].” I’m assuming an implicit “over a reasonable period of time” claim tacked on the end. As written, or even with that out clause, I’d argue that GW2 already satisfies that claimed privilege (although it’s still likely a minority view). The fact of the matter is there’s no compelling argument to support that demand. “But we paid money” doesn’t carry any weight as the money paid was to access the software and absolutely nothing else, express or implied.

We are definitely going to have to disagree then. What is it that one is purchasing then if not purchasing access to content? One would simply not pay full price for partial content.

Even though I am well aware of the tos, I am also aware that ip legalities are not up to date…ie…what may be implied in a tos may not be technically legal..it’s just that documented law hasn’t caught up with tech….ie the tos is not above consumer rights. A good example of this would be what we have seen with refunds.

Tbh I don’t think they should be for sale via a player influenced market. That would ensure that one’s chances to obtain one were not altered by anyone else, but ofc that would detail relying on this game’s rng……which is a whole other can of worms which would need to be addressed.

The unbalanced high prices funnel players into specific avenues that perpetuate the cycle of….unbalanced high prices>funneled avenue>unbalanced high prices.

Now I’m not saying that it should be in the same time frame, but they should be able to obtain them none the less. It just so happens that the way it is set up creates a divide where one group effects the other’s ability to do so. Imo it wouldn’t be such an issue if it didn’t take an already very long process and make it longer. Imagine the shoe being on the other foot…..if casual players made it take longer for non casuals to obtain something.

Well with the introduction of laurels, there are some things that force hard core players to be on par with more casual folks.

I don’t buy the argument that you are entitled to every bit of content in a game because you paid for a game.* I own every GW1 campaign, should I be entitled to all of HOM rewards* even if I don’t want to do the things to get all of the points?

I think that blaming the hard core folks for driving up prices and ruining your game experience is a flawed way of looking at the situation, but I need to chew on it a bit more to figure out how to explain why I think that.

No one is saying something for nothing (your the one adding the striked through part)……I shouldn’t be infringing on your ability to gain those rewards if you want them. I shouldn’t make your rewards take longer than they would have had I not been able to do so.

Btw I am so far from casual it’s not even funny….I just am able to see what is happening to them and feel it’s very unfortunate.

It’s not a matter of deserving, it’s a matter of having a range of goals so that different players with different play styles all have something to work toward. There are players out there that will achieve everything in a week that your idea of a typical player can achieve in a month. Should they not be welcome in a game just because they have more time or more tolerance for doing repetitive stuff?

It doesn’t seem fair to me that the hard core folks should be denied something to work for because the more casual folks would have to spend a really long time to get it.

Atm what we have is the tp players and the “hardcore” farmers are creating a rise in prices for the things they work towards. This not only effects them, but the rest of the population. So in essence they are actively keeping prices high and at the same time they are infringing on all other players these higher prices. So what your are hypothetically stating “doesn’t seem fair to deny hard core players” is exactly what is actually happening to casuals now.

There are many people with surplus such as this…issue I have with it is b/c it has effect on items when they out number the supply of certain items……ie players like this can and do afford certain items thus the items have the ability to be priced out of the reasonable range of most players that do not partake in …well playing the tp. This is why I believe they should put a cap on potential tp earnings…much like they have put a cap on item farming via dr. Atm we have a cap on the lesser and no cap on the greater. It really is counter intuitive and makes me question some of the common sense going into or lacking within.

I like that analogy here very much. People see an extremely low supply for some items, and often realize that Anet could simply change a couple numbers in the code and flood the market. They don’t acknowledge that there are a lot of consequences that come with that behavior. Anet’s not holding those back on a whim. It’s not some sort of arbitrary decision they’re blindly sticking to. It’s not a mistake that just hasn’t been fixed. At the risk of appealing to authority, Anet simply “knows better” than the people with such complaints.

It’s not a yes or no, a black or white, or a flood or drought circumstance. The numbers can be adjusted across the spectrum so that maximum benefit w/ minimum issue can be achieved. I’m not saying they should do anything, just that if they do change anything it would not necessarily be 100% flood with lots of consequences.

We need to tie back in that line of discussion with the topic of the thread.

Are there examples of artificial scarcity in real life? Or is the artificial scarcity of certain items in game a reflection on actual scarcity in real life?

Diamonds………….I won’t get into it as I have strong feelings about it….nor shall I try and make some correlation to the game economy.

I think a good question would be : Has anyone not bought theirs? What I mean by that is….I highly doubt many if any has 100% farmed theirs. At some level everyone I have seen has bought at least some parts if not most of the parts for them.

I know I am almost 2600 hrs deep in 100% farming mine and it still seems a very long way off with rng being the beast it is.

Note* I have the means to buy/finish it whenever, but that defeats the point for me.

Yes, because grinding 2,000 T6 Mats is very epic. 4 times in my case. And crafted, not bought.

Ofc it’s everyone’s individual choice. It just so happens that farming it takes a whole lot more effort than playing the tp. That for me makes it more “legendary”. Imo playing the tp would be taking the easy route and I would feel like I cheated.

You think small my friend.

When you want to make more than 1, you don’t have the privilege of farming all the mats.
Unless you live with your parents, alone, and jobless.

That’s sorta the issue I have with the current set up…….“we don’t have the option”.

Did you buy or craft your legendary?

How long does it typically take to get any sort of feedback from CS concerning accounts? Reason I asked is b/c I have emailed them some time ago and have yet to hear anything. Should I send more emails or is it a lost cause?

Since you’re still not understanding:

It is in a better state because it is numerically easier (something that needs to be applied to all dungeons, because huge health pools and harder hits do not count as real difficulty, simply artificial inflations that give the illusion of difficulty), but cognitively more challenging than before (due to the need for teams to actually work together to complete various objectives, instead of silently pushing ahead as nothing more than faceless, expendable DPSers). This means that it is less of a DPS race and more of an actual end-game explorable dungeon that has mechanics besides health, damage and damage mitigation. It’s not anything special, but it’s progress from what it was before. It is now closer to what was intended (explorable dungeons were intended to be the creme de la creme, challenging end-game content that made your team properly co-ordinate to reach the end goal).

It is not in a better state “because” of lower amounts of runners, which is what you seem to think I’m saying. That is nothing more than a side-effect and is heavily influenced by moronic forum-goers with big mouths that complain the dungeon is impossible because they cannot act in the same way they did before (DPSDPSDPSDPSDPSDPS -> collect reward). The slightest hint of challenge and requirement for a 5-man team to actually act as a team made a few louder members of the community mouth off about it and drive away potential dungeon runners who might have given it a go and found it was actually a better team experience, but they never bother because they unfortunately listened to the drones that cannot stand that everything isn’t delivered to them personally on a silver platter. Most, if not all of this “alienation” is caused by hyberbole of the highest order.

This is much better…..ty. I don’t exactly agree but it is a better stance than your original post that caught my attention:

AC is in a better state than before. The only difference is that it’s less friendly towards PUGs, because in general, unfortunately, PUGs are dumb. They expect to be able to whiz through content with no concern for communication, teamwork or really any cognitive involvement.

The only reason AC has now dropped in popularity so much is because it’s now not so much of a bland faceroll with boring mechanics that don’t really require much input or reaction. It’s now less numerically demanding, but slightly more cognitively demanding, and this is apparently the end of the world to some people.

That being as direct as it was, was kinda hard to misunderstand…unless ofc it was not what you meant and/or it was not conveyed well.

While the points of bland and boring…yes I concur that is an issue. Unfortunately that is rather subjective. What may be bland and boring to the seasoned player may not be the same for the new or casual player. Difficulty falls into the same realm. Some players find difficult content fun, while others do not. Thus it’s not exactly tactile to state subjective things as facts and we should focus on more objective measures.

What are some of the objective measures that we have access to? Well one would be activity based on population. It just so happens that this game’s population is dominated by the more casual player base. Thus the casual-esque population is one we should strongly consider in whether or not something is of benefit or of good.

By this logic making a super easy dungeon with no mechanics which takes 3 minutes to complete would be the best dungeon developed yet since it’s super PuG friendly.

IMO AC is in a far better state now than it was before; bosses have more unique mechanics (with a decrease in health to make less tedious) along with more ability variety in trash. The focus of dungeons to provide content that is less about bosses with large health pools and more about dungeons where you need to pay at least some attention and have coordination seems far better (which actually makes AC about the same length time-wise if not shorter then in was before). Simply because less people run it doesn’t mean that it is worse designed in terms of a dungeon. Though it is worse designed in terms of risk/reward because CoF farming provides mind-numbingly easy content with great rewards (which is why I’m glad Rob and his team are revamping dungeons to make the fights more unique).

I wouldn’t say that pugs activity would be the only factor to consider, but definitely one too consider among others. For the elongated reasoning see above.

No, it’s in a better state because it is in a better state, period.

Very convincing stance there………..

It’s not my fault that you failed to understand the initial explanation and put asinine statements in my mouth for me. I’m not repeating myself.

You said……it’s in a better state and it’s only change is that it’s less pug friendly…..You then stated it is…b/c it is. If you consider your own statements asinine…well so be it. Pugs are a very significant portion of the population that has been alienated by the changes resulting in a less than popular instance, which…wait for it…….hardly makes for a “better state”.

So in your opinion it’s in a better state now that less players play it? So by the same token the game would, as a whole be better if less people played it?

I contend that popularity is a rather confident gauge of “state” concerning mmos.

Ofc various rigs will have varying levels of performance. Higher population servers are still plagued by density lag apparent from continued OF existence during high concurrency. It’s rather hard to assume it’s one’s individual system when map/local chats are filled with the same resonance of stutter, lag, and dc’ing. Ofc the semi-recent changes to loot, as concerning alts, was to address this issue….hmmmm wonder if it addressed it properly?…..(rhetoric btw)

That’s a legendary win, because all legendaries are quite ugly. Maybe except for the shield and 1h sword.

That was/is the 1h “exception” sword transmutated.
