I think it may even be fair to eliminate farming and say active TP players have by far the most wealth. The amount of gold earned by farming or playing the game seems very linear with a blip or two thrown in due to RNG on something like a precursor. The amount of gold earned off the TP can be exponential. There are probably a substantial amount of players with 1000G+ who have never finished the final mission, got 100% world completion, or gasp hit level 80…
1) Plenty of people who do not like the story.
2) No reason reason for 100% unless you want to make a legendary. The other benefits for 100% are irrelevant if they are as rich as you claim.
3) ANet’s fault for not giving exp for trading. Some people play the game only for
… sPvP
… open world PvE
… dungeons
… WvWWhy not ‘only for trading’?
Aren’t there trading/merchant/stock market focused games out there for those type of ppl? Just seems those would be better suited for that type of player w/o them pulling the strings on an economy that effects all the ppl in gw2 playing b/c its a fantasy mmorpg.
Imagine the flip side of that coin. Bunch of players going into a trading simulator and messing up all the trade routes b/c it’s more profitable than trading and/or they like messing with the other players.
The market exists intentionally. It’s part of the game.
Did you play Guild Wars 1? Do you remember that the Underworld and Fissure of Woe were only open when your region held the Hall of Heroes? (“Favor of the Gods”) The two had almost nothing to do with each other yet they were connected.
Part of creating a more lifelike world is creating as many interconnected and interdependent systems as possible – just like the real world.
Maybe instead of suggesting that some people go play a market simulation game, they would suggest you go play a single player RPG with static pricing?
You can acquire Exotic gear without using the TP or crafting station, but the fancy stuff requires rare material and it’s rare for a reason. The Trading Post is an arena where players compete for the best resources and items to differentiate themselves from others. You can go find the stuff yourself, or you can buy what you want from other players – but you don’t get to determine their selling price – each player gets to determine what property they will sell and how much they will sell it for.
It’s a very abstracted form of PvP. There are multiple objectives (you get to choose your own) multiple strategies and you get to determine the conditions for victory – whether it’s a legendary weapon or just a nice shade of red dye.
Those items you want but can’t afford? Someone else wants them too and they want them more than you do – and they also found a way to get them.
If you don’t like that meta, you don’t have to play.
Yes, I played and remember that they separated UW and FoW from HA in favor of achievements. There is a reason why they have mostly separated pvp and pve in gw2.
The ig economy does not have the regulation that the rl economy has. Thus some the things that we are protected from in rl are only rewarded ig. It would make sense if one were trying to mimic rl in a game…they would take out/restrict the things that are bad in rl b/c games are supposed to be fun I thought.
If one were to have enough resource they could (and they do) determine what price things go for given they are of limited supply.
All that aside my main issue is that all of the long goals (shinys) are obtainable via playing the tp in a completely unbalanced ratio to actually playing the content. That coupled with the corrupt side of the market, effects all those in pve negatively.
ex) Jane spent 5 months working on farming and crafting a legendary weapon while Bob spent 1 week profiting off the tp (may or may not partook in manipulation) and bought one.
The ability for Bob to buy Jane’s “achievement” probably lessens the prestige she and others perceive. At the same time of lowering the prestige of that achievement for Jane, Bob, may or may not, have made it harder for Jane to obtain said achievement. Thus “knocking her to the floor and kicking her for good measure” essentially negatively effecting Jane’s time playing the game.
It is of my opinion that no one should be able to negatively impact someone else’s time playing the game…at least in PvE.

I’ve had 8-80s for a while now, one of each profession and while I can definitely say engineers and necros (even rangers to an extent) have that feel, mesmers really don’t. They are one of the most useful/unique classes in the game.
I had to use multiple stones to get the exotic down to fine type for my lvl 3 toon. I tried to go directly but it would not allow it on 5 pieces of armor…..ie 15 stones (5 fine,10 basic)
500w corsair will be plenty for the 550ti and the rest of rig oc’d no worries
1st of all you need to transmutate it onto a rare 1st. Once you have do that then you may proceed to transmutate it to the masterwork item. It seems you cannot skip lvls.
When I transmutated duelist exotic amor to my lvl 3 storage toon, I had to repeat that process down to fine/blue and they definitely did not keep the exotic/orange text.
PS..after the initial “fine” stone (from lvl 80 exotic-lesser lvl rare)you may use “basic” stones from there
It would be nice if ya’ll over at CD would stop camping the EB jp…IoJ and FA seem to be civil towards each other in there but ya’ll are another story.
I’m gonna suggest 2 things that others have not:
1) With the ivy chips…the v8 is really not going to do anything a 212+ won’t. That said…212+ can be bought for $15 regularly on sale. I would however suggest replacing the stock pwm that comes with it (it’ll still be cheaper that the evo given you don’t over pay for the fan)
2) Tbh there is no point in getting the 1866 vs 1600 ram….the 1600 is at the point of dr (value/performance) for ddr3.
Together these 2 things will save you $50 that can be spent on upgrading that 550ti, which like others have said is what you need.
I’m leaning towards bugged…just think about how many other bugs they are unable to reproduce, thus not aware of/able to fix. I very much doubt they have ever got one to drop on a regular server even knowing full well exactly where it drops. Chances are they use the test server and it’s not bugged there…….“Not in my backyard so doesn’t matter to me!”
okay ty very much…and yes you guessed it….I am concerned about map exploration
On the 1st boss room, the wurms, as long as your ranged players know where to stand it’s very easy. All of the vine will target the ranged (if they r in the right place) and your melee can dps unhindered. It’s how the wurm farm is done.
So which map each server gets is based off color/place? ex) green on left, red in middle. and blue on right?
If so that’s pretty dumb…some servers will be on same maps for extended periods of time.
I was under the impression that maps rotated at a minimum every 2 weeks or rather that the servers rotated which maps they called home. This is the third week in which my server is on the same map, while the other two servers swapped which maps they called home.
How does map rotation work? Is it based on color, random, or something else? DOes it only happen every 2 weeks or can if happen in 1 week?
Ty for your time!
I thought the drop rate of keys/chest were supposed to be about even… I mean we all saw this coming, but really? I have gotten a 1:6 drop rate. During the betas I was breaking about even.
Or am I completely wrong about this?
1 in 6 is extremely lucky. Im sitting at more of an 1 in 250 ratio….and tbh not really exaggerating. 2 keys 1,500+ hours.
Quick Note:
GW2 Spidy is not hacking, they are not doing anything illegal, it’s a fantastic site.May I use similar method to obtain automated info to use in an out of game notification tool?
As long as it is read only access of information available to the public anyways you surely can ( I realize your post was a try in sarcasm but as the other posters already said spidy even provides the source to use).
It actually wasn’t sarcasm. Spidy is not exactly real time and idk if using such open source info with a diagnostic tool is frown upon (i have too much vested in my account to risk it). Basically it would turn tp flipping/investing into a color by numbers type of activity as the out of game program would do all the number crunching in real time as well.
Yep rates are pathetically low. It’s been about a week since I’ve seen an open world rare drop playing 6+hrs a day….something is wrong with that. In 1,500+ hrs of play I’ve had 2 open world exo’s drop. So umm yeah definitely agree horrid loot system, tbh if it were not for my guild here that came from gw1…I’d probably switch games.
edit* hard to say that given how much of a fan I am of gw…16k+hrs in gw1, only game I played for years, now this one…just don’t think I can hang in there as things are.

Sheesh, seven whole minutes.
lol – all those MBs I downloaded were three bullet points?
Nope…world foes now drop less loot and have a less likely chance to drop rarer loot.
The engineer….I feel soo bad for my engineer……seems to be the red headed step child (if you will) of the game. When you play them and then play other professions it’s pretty easy to notice their lacking.
I’ll semi agree with the above poster…but replace one guardian with either another war or an aura ele.
I’m going to go against the grain here and admit I do it for the chance of drops. I leave characters at the various spawn locations so that I can swap toons at a moments notice. I even go as far as using networking to time my participation as to not be involved in the events any longer than need be to obtain gold reward. I haven’t seen the 1st half of the claw in a while and have no intentions of doing so since the spawns have had their drops drastically reduced or removed.
If it weren’t for the ever so slight chance of precursors from those three, tbh I would probablyavoid them all together and do other events that spawn giant chests (not going to say which ones I like doing, but they are all much faster paced).
Quick Note:

I’ve done this multiple times. Coriander is actually pretty easy to come by right outside of LA. Anyways 1st try I got a celestial dye, then the next 6 were all common grey dyes. Since the opportunity cost of each gamble is effectively 2g ish…the profit gained by highly demanded dyes will most likely be negated by failed gambles.
I highly doubt we will ever see another one of those. Considering how “proud” it was listed as even distributed wealth and how far we have come…..ummm yeah really, really doubt we’ll see it.
Once gems passed the 94.5s mark they stopped being worth it. Regular master kits are cheaper and yield same results. So no they haven’t been worth it for a while.
How? Most likely b/c ya’ll spent 50-70 hours doing a low level event loop. I don’t understand why ya’ll would do this….it’s not effective for leveling considering the alternatives.
Took us 5 times killing the Captain and rezzing/guarding Jenny. She seems to be the main glitchy one. Keeping her alive is probably best, but if you cannot then rez her fast enough so she is not far behind the other two in leaving the island.
I have tried multiple, multiple times to figure this out as well to no avail. GL on search
Game is about skins. How do you know that the ascended weapons are going to be better looking that the current skins? YOU DONT.
So even if all these current crafted weapons were BIS like legendaries, what if they add new 10x nicer skins? You wouldnt care that they are not BIS and you would just go for the weapon that looks amazing.
If you are crafting Legendaries, Mjolnir, Infinite light for stats or future stats, not skin, then your doing it wrong. Skins are why are you going for them. And even if they werent BIS in next month, who cares. You just craft or drop BIS weapon in few days, weeks and then transmute it.
I crafted Juggernaut and now almost done with Predator and LAST thing I care about is some BIS status in future … In this game, have BIS items is easy as ****
If I were to craft one of these 1k gold skins you can be your last nickle that I’ll be using it for my gw2 duration. I have “dabbled” in the tp, but tbh I prefer game play, thus hold a time/value ratio that comes from pure play.
The ascended back items (correct me if I’m wrong) are not exactly easy as ****, as you put it, to get through game play. If they are any indication of what’s to come then I am not convinced they will be easy to get. It’s hard to tell the unlucky few that rng does not shine on that ascended rings are easy to get.
Maybe our definition of easy is different?
Legendaries wont be best in slot, only highest tier.
So the current lvl 80 legendaries wont be best in slot anymore when the lvl cap gets raised.
Wait what? Can you please clarify? Are you saying that at some point legendary weapons will not have highest stats available?
Idk if it is just me, but I am having a very hard time trying to justify crafting one of the high end skins. Not because of the cost necessarily but moreso because I know in the future it will be second rate.
With legendaries we have the premise that they will always be best in slot, so there is not concern about spending massive time/effort and having it diminished via an update.
Lets take Infinate Light for an example. This non-legendary weapon requires 250 charged lodestones which if bought comes to 922 gold ish and if farmed…….well lets be honest you don’t have a chance in heck to farm 250 charged lodestones unless something is off about ya.
There are plenty of these high end weapons out there that have this issue of doom and gloom attached to them. I am well aware that one could use a fine transmutation stone to upgrade the skin in the future, but let’s be honest…the new best in slot weapons will not be cheap and will most likely require lots of grinding in of themselves.
Now something that could be done to resolve this issue would be the addition of a stat upgrade item. Even though I dislike the idea of an item like that being exclusive to the gem shop, I know it would sell and sell well. Just a thought.
I would like to hear/read ya’lls (yes I know y’all…not gonna happen) opinion on this. Is this a legitimate concern? 1st world problem? Am I complaining for the sake of complaining?
, I thought the following: [b]"ANet is intentionally trying to drive down the price of ecto because it is getting out of control
It made perfect sense to me that they did this intentionally.
It had become no more profitable than crafting level 75 rare tailor items to salvage for ectoplasm, which told me that it was totally legitimate and that ANet decided post mortem that “ehh, maybe we went a bit too far”.
This was market stabilized in less than 24 hours.
While the market for this one item stabilized…it messed up everything else that involved mithril, snowflakes, and even ectos. I find it hard to believe that they would mess up so many markets for one. It’s basically like believing that taking one step forward then taking three steps back will result in progression.
The price of mithril would have gone back down, as the price of the snowflake would have stabilized to “ecto-like” levels, like all other “ecto-producing” recipes.
What about all the other items? The ripples from this one item were not so limited.
What other item? Mithril? It would have gone back down as people would unload their stock, and when snowflakes would have reached equilibrium, mithril would have gone back down as less people would craft the rings.
If you mean other “ecto producing” recipes, they are tied to the price of ectos, as all ecto producing recipes. For example, the godskull weapons and the “large skulls” on the TP, they are very close to the price of ectos cause they can salvage to ectos.
Any item listed on the tp prior to this involving ectos subsequently either forfeit listing fees or opportunity costs associated with not selling due to no longer being competitively priced ofc given that said items were listed competitively.

Seeing that we are now past the game’s infancy stage, I definitely understand the bans. When the karma/godskull exploits occurred the game was “too wet behind the ears”…at least that’s what I assume is their reasoning for temp then and perma now. They even explained that future exploits would not be given such leniency, yet here were are having the same comparisons brought up.
It was very obvious that the snowflake deal was exploitative. The items were mislabeled, they required 1/3 of an equivalent, and they created a loop which no other crafted items did. It looked like a duck, it smelled like a duck, it even talked like a duck. No one should be surprised it was officially labeled a duck.
Further, I’m sure that permas were handed out to only the grievous offenders. I highly doubt we are talking about 10s. Just like the karma exploit, we are most likely dealing with 100s, 1000s, etc per person. It becomes very hard to justify taking advantage of the whole deal 100s and 1000s of times, but I’m sure we will hear/read all sorts of pleas.
Growing up we (virginia) didn’t have MLK day, we had LJK day. This thread actually got me looking into it and turns out LJK was only from ‘83-’00, being split back to MLK day since 2000. Learn something new everyday!
Having a legendary means that you have participated in every aspect of the game, pvp included.
No…no it does not at all. Badges do not even mean you have pvp’d since then are mainly farmed via the jp’s. A person can load gw2 and within 1 minute have a legendary if that doesn’t discount the “participation factor” idk what else would.
They are NOT mainly farmed by Jp’s .. Only PVE’ers claim this. They ARE easy to get by just playing WvW. You only need to know how to “damage” your enemy.
brotip: Try using an arrowcart when enemy is attacking your tower/keep
Who are the majority population of gw2? PvP players? I very much doubt that. I would venture to say that yes the majority of farmed badges (sole intent not byproduct)are in fact farmed via the jp’s by the majority of gw2 players who are PvE players. Ofc this is just formed via logic and not actually from knowing it as fact
PS…when related to the topic at hand…obtaining 500 badges expressively for a legendary…..yeah farmed via jp’s…I have no very little doubt

This talk about manipulation with precursors or by gold sellers is right now, complete speculation. In setting baseless market conspiracies aside, the truth is in all likelihood a lot simpler: As the game gets older and players gradually become seasoned and acquire wealth—more and more of them will be pursuing their Legendary. Certainly there are a lot more people working towards their Legendary TODAY, than there were 2 months ago. And as more players begin this journey, they will likewise look to acquire their precursor, thus increasing the demand and their value. Sunrise and Bifrost are more desirable than the Moot or Meteorologicus.
This is precisely why other precursors (Storm, Energizer, ect) aren’t being sold for 500 gold, because the demand is lower. Its that simple. There is zero evidence to support the notion of precursor manipulation, or that a few people are hoarding the majority of these items. After all, if there were, why haven’t they gone into the other precursor markets? The Moot precursor (Energizer) sells for about 35 gold, there are only 20 of them on the market,, the whole supply could be bought out for roughly 900 gold (or for roughly the cost of 2.5 dusks). Theoretically, the Energizer is as rare as Dusk or Dawn in terms of drop %, or coming from the mystic forge. Why haven’t all these Energizers been bought out and relisted for 250 gold each? ANSWER: Because there is no manipulation going on.
Really? I take it you are not in a large guild. I in fact do know there is manipulation going on. Why? Because I have participated in it with a guildy of mine who does it all the time. A lot of large guilds have at least someone who is into this. They are extremely easy to point out as they are the ones with thousands/tens of thousands of ig gold not to mention every high-end skin and typically spend the majority of their time in la.
There is a reason they focus on high demand items…that’s where the money is. Given the choice (which they do have) between making a substantial gain vs a lesser gain, guess which one they will choose?
I’ve actually seen lots of the recipes drop in various dungeons. Oddly enough they always seem to drop for someone that a) isn’t 400 jeweler b) isn’t lvl 80 Since they are account bound on acquire it’s a double whammy to the availability of the actual items
I actually think this is bugged now and exploitable. I just filled that 5s55c order maybe 50 times and it simply will not go away……so I submitted a bug report. Credit my hangover for lack of “something’s not right here” on why it took me so many times b4 realizing it.
I’d rather wait till they add new ones that aren’t tainted. I have lost all desire to obtain the current legendaries even though I have the means. “yes!…I’m a tp player..wait no I’m not…..wth?…..ppl in la know me enough as is…..don’t need a weapon to prove I live there”
I ran dungeons in gw1 like there was no tomorrow…but as it stands…with kicking innocent ppl to make profit…this has got to go….it’s ridiculous…there is nothing fair, admirable, free market anything to do with it. Again if they are kicking ppl to make profit BAN them indefinitely. We do NOT want those kind of ppl playing with us. Tbh we don’t want that mentality with us in rl either. PIck up that soap!
Going with the benefit of the doubt and saying holiday vacation…it’s not exactly a working man’s job thus actually having time off. lol How nice would it be to say it’ll be done when it’s done to your boss? Must be nice…ofc I am the pot!
At least 2 good things have come out of my addiction, yes addiction, to gw 1 and 2. I quit smoking and drastically cut down on my drinking. From bar tabs $100-200 every Friday and Saturday night and 1-2 packs per day…I figure it has saved me roughly $16-17,000 a year for the past 4 years. 64 thousand dollars not too shabby!
Searched and didn’t find this so….
I would be very nice to be able to simply EDIT the guild message instead of having to retype the whole thing. We had it in GW1, idk why in GW2 it has regressed to be less user friendly. A lot of guilds have info that remains standard in the msg….ex) vent/ts info.
Can’t be that hard to implement…maybe 5 mins to do?
PS….please and thank you!
Free market. While I don’t do this myself I see no problem with others doing so unless they were kicking pugs out of dungeon and selling their spot.
I’m pretty sure pugs are in fact being kicked….which if the case all players involved on the selling/kicking side should be PERMA BANNED. Imo this is the major issue here…not that a title is being cheapened.
Note* if done legit 1-4 players not using exploits, kicking, or what have you…I think it’s perfectly fine even though prices r laughable on both ends.
I for one, hope that they add more dungeons ( either with new campaigns or during monthly events.) and that they are increased in not only difficulty, but in reward. And I’m sure they will, I only wonder about how they will differ from the dungeons we have now. I am tired of ‘burn down the HP’s of ‘X’ Boss/mob as fast as you can till you get to the next boss/mob.. rinse/repeat.’ HotW is a prime example of that. I would like to see some more Arah-like dungeon mechanics that cater to the hardcore players. The casuals already have tons to choose from.
What if they added one with the increased mechanic difficulty, but without the increased rewards? Would you still want it?
snip.
Oh I agree…it definitely comes down to personal opinion. That’s why I used “imo”. As for the dragons….tbh the best part of doing the claw event was the chance at lodestones from the adds, but ofc they nerfed that. I think a great way to get ppl to go back to said events would be to add core drops to the adds…glacial to claw (not sure y corrupted r there doesn’t fit imo), corrupted to teq, and charged to the shatterer. Heck they could even goes as far as adding molten to the fire elemental and destroyer to the mega destroyer events. Ofc I doubt anything like this will happen, nor do I foresee any incoming communication about the matter. So we are left to our devices and our speculations. Oh well…………….
Power trading. All else pales in comparison when it comes to gold.
Since one can buy just about every, EVERY cosmetic…ie…achievement pinnacle…it is by far the worst part of the game imo. It simply cheapens the title/skin/what have you that by playing the tp one can obtain the creme de la creme with a disproportionate amount of time/effort. Imo a very bad design for a mmo. Did I play the content for that, or did I play the tp? Chances are I played the tp b/c it was much quicker/easier.
Killed 27 veterans today in cursed got 1 rare. Several dropped nothing 1 dropped a green rest were blues and mat/salvage/trash.
Killed 6 champions today in cursed as well got 1 blue, 1 porous bone, and nothing from rest
Here’s my deal with this…..if a vet/champ doesn’t have a ratio of drop equivalent to the increased amount of time it takes to kill it vs a standard foe…it simply isn’t worth killing it. In other words if a regular foe takes 20 seconds to down then a veteran that takes 3 times as long to take down…that veteran needs to have at least 3 times the chance at a better drop to be worth killing. Same goes for champions but ofc with the ratio adjusted for the added time. Otherwise we are simply better off killing 3x, 5x, or whatever the number of regular foes and skipping the champion/veteran all together. Same principle applies to dungeons and why players skip everything that’s not required.
