Engineer grenades get 10-15 % projectile movement speed and our arrows remain the same. I know this game isn’t exactly based off real world, but when was throwing grenades supposed to be faster than shooting an arrow?
They just proved that fixing projectile AI/speed is extremely easy. Why didn’t they increase Lbow arrows 10-15%?
Extremely dissapointed. I believed JP and Anet so I’ve been playing my ranger these past 2/3 weeks running dungeons and getting armor. Complete waste of time.
Time to finish up my theif and start to work on my ele alt.
You’re using the ore to combine into an ingot and GAIN EXPERIENCE from it. In your example, you are paying 5c for a set amount of xp. If vendor prices were to follow in your example, you’re saying that the xp you gain from crafting is free.
This is why on the TP sometimes the ingot sells for around 2xOre-10%. People know that there is inherit value in the ore by way of extra XP.
And, again, read the beep topic before you beep post. Not just 1 post, the whole thing.
Aww, somebody is mad. I’ve read the whole post and disagree with almost everything you and OP have said. I’m not going to apologize for letting the conversation zone in on something.
It is Anet’s decision that crafting isn’t meant to be profitable, and is mainly a source of XP along with an additional source for exotics.
Seems the majority of players like it that way
Good point. However I don’t think they support mesmers spawning clones up on the walls.
Ascended gear is welcomed with open arms, people complain about gear hamster wheel but they do not see that ascended gear is just in between exotic and legendary, now if they add something like godly armor as higher than legendary THAT right there would be a gear hamster wheel.
It constantly amazes me how many people think that Legendary items are better than Exotics.
Your signature, by the way, is very apt.
Yes better as in they have more pleasing aesthetics and cool effects.
In his original post he never said legendary was better than exotic. However, I think we can all agree they are, and also were intended to be. There is a bonus to legendary, they have slightly higher stats than exotics, therefore are better.
They are supposed to look better as well. All he was referring to was the time it takes to gain these items when he said “between exotics and legendary”. Although bravo at the somewhat subtle attempt of picking off an irrelevant point (albeit incorrect)
No, he’s not suggesting that. Read the beep topic before you beep post. It was explained 10 times by now. Seriously…
And yet…
OP“it’s entirely about how crafting raw material into an item and that item selling for less than the same amount of raw material would sell. This is not about the trading post, but about the selling to actual vendors.”
OP“I was just wondering the concept behind why whenever you craft an item with raw material you can sell that raw material to a VENDOR for more than the finished product.”
Seriously, it seems pretty clear what he’s saying. Perhaps you posted your reply to the wrong thread?
To be clear, selling crafted items to the vendor must be done at a loss. If you broke even then it would be free xp, and if you profited it would be horribly broken.
Yes, it is pretty clear. Not to you, obviously. So, I’ll make it simpler.
Ore A vendors for 5c.
2 x Ore A gives you Ingot A.
Ingot A vendors for 5c.
OP is asking how come Ingot A doesn’t vendor for 10c.It was already explained(about 10 times) exactly what he means and exactly why he’s wrong. Yet, you decided to hop on the misunderstanding bandwagon with a “gold out of thin air” theory.
Now, keep reading this until it sinks in. Got it? Good.
You’re using the ore to combine into an ingot and GAIN EXPERIENCE from it. In your example, you are paying 5c for a set amount of xp. If vendor prices were to follow in your example, you’re saying that the xp you gain from crafting is free.

The only good point here is that older dungeons may be obselete now. However, who knows, maybe they will make criteria where you have to have full exotics to enter the new ascended dungeon. Plus, people still like the looks of old dungeon gear, so they will get them for transmutation.
As far as this whole 1% goes, you are idiots for reading it this way. She simply said that people have started on legendaries, not own legendaries. There are way too many people right now trying to obtain one, because they all got their exotics earlier and easier than Anet expected. This is known as the “legendary wall” because getting exotics is so easy and the next step is a legendary which is incredibly long and time consuming.
“but players were ready to start on that path much sooner than we expected and were becoming frustrated” This is the cause of many frustrations. Precursers, lodstones, t6 items are all insanely expensive right now because the game hasn’t been out long (the supply is low) and everybody wants one (demand is high).
This is some bad reading comprehension. They were saying that players STARTED on legendaries way before they expected, not that people HAVE legendaries before expected.
It is true that for a casual gamer (that I consider myself) getting exotics is too easy and getting legendary is way too hard. I have mostly exotics and it will be a short time till I’m fully in exotics (maybe a week or two more). After that, I’ll play WvW a lot, then I’ll probably go for 100% completion, and maybe roll some alts. But I guarantee you my gaming time will decrease.
I’m okay with this and I feel like I have gotten all of my money worth and then some. I also don’t plan to stop playing any time sooner. However I’m completely for higher gear. It gives me something to strive for and a goal to have when I log on.
What if, Anet just gave you a legendary when you hit 80. That way, casuals could have a legendary, and it wouldn’t be legendary anymore! Woohoo!
This post isn’t a rant about crafting and how you can’t make money at it…
Whenever you look at other games crafting systems one thing is clearly noticed, you can make money by crafting.
This reply isn’t about how your OP was contradictory, but the one thing that is clear is that you contradicted yourself in your post.
But in all seriousness, they never meant for it to be profitable. It’s just another source to get max gear stats. If you don’t like RNG, dungeons, or WvW, you can craft and get the same gear stat wise.
Also, Anet does not set the prices. The set the drop rates which in turn set the prices. Saying what prices should be doesn’t really do anything. It’s up to us, as a free market (aside from minimum selling prices) to set the prices.
As a previous poster mentioned, it has to do with people using crafting to level. If there weren’t anybody purely buying raw mats, making gear, and selling gear, then you would have more mats available and less gear.
Anet has already claimed crafting was implemented without the notion of profiting off it. I believe it was mostly to provide another source of getting max stats.
If you want to make your own gear, go farm the mats. If you want to make money, go farm the mats. The only different is one you use the mats and one you sell them.
Anet is already aware of this. I expect to be disappointed with the fixes though tbh. Either 1) I have very high hopes and they won’t deliver or 2) they deliver and all other professions (especially Necros since most claim to be broken as well) will QQ.
I’m a ranger at heart, but I have no reserves about playing other classes. Dabling with theif, warrior, and ele right now.
You’re just mad. This is legit. It’s PvP, not PvE. Just because it’s a jumping puzzle doesn’t mean it HAS to be PvE. The chest gives you PvP rewards (badges and sieges) that will make you strong in W3 so why should other servers stop you?
Sounds like you want a warrior. Rifle is amazing single target, lonbgow is great for aoes, and I love their GS. You might also be interested in a mesmer. I don’t think they have many aoes, but the GS works as a range weapon and you can do fun stuff in W3 with portals =).
Right now I’m enjoying the theif for the good sbow skills, aoe and the ability to get stealth in, slice some people up with daggers, and get the hell out.
I think Yak’s Bend also has oceanic presence. We get night capped by them all the time in W3 so I’m assuming they have a strong oceanic presence.
Because thief’s shortbow corrects it’s course during flight. I’m not joking.
I mainly play ranger, but started a thief after the sbow steal-nerf (pun intended). I agree completely, you can actually see where the thief shot follows your moving target, compared to a 1400 distant ranger (mind you, auto attacking doesn’t work even though you’re in range of 1500) which fires the arrow straight at the location the person was 1 second ago.
Thief’s shortbow also fires arrows the course correct while in flight. It leads to faaaar fewer false ‘obstructed’ and ‘out of range’ errors. It causes me to doubt that the developers understand the obstructed issue, after they have said it is caused by map bugs.
Agree completely. They say that all classes obtain this error equally, well, that’s not true at all. I’ve played all classes except for engi and necro, while my main is a ranger but slowly switching to a thief. My thief barely ever gets the obstruction/outofrange errors. The warrior bow and rifle seldom get it, while its usually 10-20% on my ranger in WvW.
Lol I like this post.
What class should I play?
This is why I hate all the classes…
Probably because CoF is one of the easiest dungeons (except path 3, but still easy with coordination).
I think theif tends to be a bit more oriented towards PvP, but that’s not to say it doesn’t come in handy in dungeons. The group stealths and aoe blinds, poison, and bleeds still apply to dungeons. Just don’t build backstab and you’re okay.
Couple of things here right off the bat. What level are you and what level mobs are you fighting? If you have a group of 2/3 friends to play with that would be best. You can fight mobs that are 2/3 levels above you. If you’re fighting solo I would stick to areas that are the same level as you. If you scroll over a renown heart on the map you can see the suggested level, and it is color coded to correspond.
How is your armor/weapon? Every 5 levels or so I would go to a merchant or check the TP to make sure you have the best gear/armor you can. Don’t just wait for the drops. Either salvage and sell, or just sell the drops you don’t need to pay for the gear you do.
Hammers are really good for playing defensivley, knocking opponents back and buying yourself time, so use those if you’re in an event and have other people to do heavy damage. GS is great for hitting fast and hittin hard, also aoe swings. You can run in circles and hit the mob that will be to your side if you just spam 1. Since you’re a self-proclaimed ‘newbie’ I would just say keep moving and use those dodges if you see a mob wind-up for an attack. Most newbiews just stand still and go toe-to-toe with the mob. This game isn’t designed for that.
Also investigate all weapons. Longbow is great for ranged DPS and rifle is stellar for single-target.
Thieves aren’t the most OP in PvP. I think the reason people think that is it is easy to be an unskilled player and get good with a theif, mainly due to the stealthing and rendering issues. However several skilled classes can wreck thieves.
Look at the person earlier who said their engineer sees thieves as a free badge/token. I know guardians shrug thieves off because they try to burst, get denied, then have to run away.
Where does this talk of pets doing 45% of ranger dps come from? Lol. It wouldn’t even be that much if you were just on auto attack.
I do not even see much of an issue with pets, they are far more responsive than in other titles.
My biggest suggestion would be to buff up a single skill in SB, maybe some AOE, because in long group pve fights its pretty dull. Thief SB puts it to shame apart from rangers AA speed. A melee closer would b good too, I know the Gs has one and you can trait for the speed buff when you switch in combat but I feel it would make melee that little bit more viable for more players.
I don’t feel any of those would be op at all, I could be wrong.
Also, some of the slot skills are very poor, 20% chances are not that useful, nor is a 10% speed buff, some of the elite summon skills timers are way too long also, imo. Also, more variety in traps and possibly more trap based traits?
I do not feel our DPS is that bad (considering our CC and CD’s) once you build for it and know how to chain attacks. We have one of the largest and fastest to cast rAOE’s in the game, plus it cc’s too, stop crying, really.
This all reminds me of WAR’s shadow warrior, which was a far far inferior class, many QQ’ed it was terrible, it was poor compared to it’s opposite but could be devastating in the correct hands.
I think many crying about the ranger so much should try ele and other classes.
People have, and I think that’s why rangers are upset. A rifle warrior is what many people imagined for the ranger. Also ele’s are power houses. I agree they were complained about for awhile, but a skilled ele can wreck almost all other skilled classes. The skill ceiling is just more like a trump tower than a ranch.
I carry sbow and axe/warhorn. I also have a longbow but only use that with AC burrows or keeps in WvW
My main complaints are that A) the pet has a very hard time hitting moving targets which puts us about 60% damage (just guessing) of what the Devs intended and B ) Our arrows travel horrendously slow and are very easy to side step at max range of longbow.
Oh, and our shortbow was ninja-nerfed.
Plus our spirits are really bad
Oh plus we get tons of obstruction and out of range when we shouldn’t (granted this applies to more than just rangers).
I’m actually pretty surprised at how ontopic and non-rage filled this thread has been.
I have the privilege of fighting with GODS and doing my part in one of the spec ops group. I also had the privilege of standing behind a wall waiting to ambush some ET, while I watched the Ele hold his own against 7 or 8 ET. It was pretty cool to watch. Later I got to run AC with the same ele and he definitely is incredibly skilled and knows his class very well.
Also just wanted to I’m enjoying this match up a lot, regardless of night-capping or whatever people want to complain about. All I know is during our peak times and when the GODS are out, it’s a tremendously fun match up.
Lol Vasham. People who are on the forums play in the game. There are tons of people in game that do not like the ending, me being one of them. It’s not something that is openly discussed in game, as it is on the forums. That would be the reason you have “yet to meet somebody in game that doesn’t like the ending”. There isn’t exactly a title that you wear under your character’s name that says “Disappointed with Zhaitan Fight”
Thank you so much for clarification on this.
For the love of god people, stop asking for clarification. This has been one of the most to the point (tin foil hat story excluded) posts from a dev ever.
@Psychrome
Quit being over dramatic. People are asking for an OPTION to not use a pet. You could still have your dumb pet that doesn’t attack people that move (aka 99.9% of people in wvw). But there would be an option for people who know they are being limited by the pet.
It would be as easy as giving 10-20% damage increase or 10-20% crit change with a perm-stowed pet. Not sure on the numbers but that would be for the devs to figure out.

Also, if you google “CanIrunit” you’ll get a website that uses a java app to test your specs and matches it against the minimum requirements. It’s not as accurate as actually playing it, but it’s the next best alternative.
spiders and devourers will be nice because of the range attack, otherwise they might get destoryed in the middle of a zerg.
I like moas and the fern for their heals. If there is a big zerg I’ll just stow my pet constantly and when it’s around me use the f2 ability either for healing or protection (I think that’s the blue moa)
Exactly as Korrigan said, it would be used mainly to grief legit players. I played a game where there was a random chance a captcha would pop up (maybe 1-5%?) when gathering materials from a node.
I think it’s a good idea, but I think most bots in GW2 are just farming mobs. Maybe they could do something with this and DR. I know they don’t seem to want to notify us when DR kicks in, but maybe once DR kicks in a captcha pops up. If you get the captcha correctly than poof, DR is reset. If it’s wrong (multiple tries?) then DR gets set on you HARD.
Could add an option in game menu to automatically pop up a captcha incase you were afk or whatever to remove the DR through answering it correctly.
Na, it’s this one (my guess): http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/alienware-alienware-aurora-intel-core-i5-2320-desktop-computer-ax51-5723bk-english-ax51-5723bk/10224073.aspx
Considering it’s alienware and the $1K price he said.
The most important aspects imo are going to be your CPU and GPU (or videocard). Most of the mid to high-end desktops are going to have standarg 8gb of ram and some decent memory.
The GPU on here is a very tested and reliable card. By now there are a lot of better cards out and I think this card will be dated relatively soon, but hey, it’s computers, so that can be said about everything. The only thing I couldn’t find is if it’s PCI-express 3.0 , 2.0, or 1.0. That would make a small difference.
The CPU is decent as an i5, but the speed is 3.0 gHz. That isn’t horrible, mine runs max setting and is 2.7gHz but has 6cores, which helps make up for the speed a little bit.
All I can tell you is over in the rangers forum we are envious of your rifle and ability to own in melee, something we though we were going to get.
Some people are just stupid responding on here. Sorry that’s rude, but seriously, read the guy’s post.
I think that JC gets shafted at the end because they have it easier in the beginning/middle. I’m a JC and leatherworker. I flew threw JC and had leatherworking trailing behind. As soon as I hit around 375 I stalled on JC and finished LW up.
So again, to directly answer your question, I believe this was implemented to make up for the fact that early/middle JC is easier compared to the others (excluding cooking).
“The gates and walls shouldn’t be damaged by normal weapons. A larger group can add their little autoattacks up very efficiently. Who saw an army banging the walls with swords and arrows?”
Yeah, I’ve never seen wood being damaged by swords or axes! Crazy!
“5 Orichalcum Pistol Frames.”
Just to let you know these are made of wood so “5 Ancient Pistol Frames”
I just got a new pet bug after the update. I’ll enter water where my armor fish comes out to play. When I leave the water he stays and flops around on the land. I thought it was lag due to being in Lion’s Arch during the event but it stayed around for 2 to 3 minutes until I swapped pets.
It happened again while I was out in Queensdale. The armor fish flopped around on land until I swapped pets. I never fought anything so I’m not sure if it would attack or not.
^ You’ve got to be kitten me.
Hahaha. That’s the perfect ‘ kitten #8217; face
Thanks for the update! I knew there was a reason I didn’t completely scrap my ranger!
Even though there weren’t any specifics, I know I (and I think we all) appreciate that you gave us a quick update and generally pointed out what may be in the future for our class.
The theif is really fun, but I’m a ranger at heart.
Yes, thanks Auesis. I just picked up this class but I’ve already been more help to my guild in wvw as a level 30 theif than I ever was as a level 80 ranger.
I think my favorite is IA infront or middle of a zerg, pop caltrops, CnD and let my zerg catch up to them.
I think you’re asking for the wrong thing. Why would you ask for a lower drop rate? That shouldn’t encourage more people to open them.
You should be asking for either a cheaper key price or higher valued items into the chest. The supply/demand of the chest is not going to altar my desire to open it.
Radeon HD 6850.. however, during the beta’s they tested each persons computer for hardware right? I’m pretty sure they know what percentage of users have DX11 graphics cards…
I don’t know if they kept those records. However, I’ve upgraded my GPU since then.
Radeon HD 7770
(Must make this post longer)
I was thinking the same thing Bruno.
However, a viable solution much as shinjin said of ‘costume’ slot is that you could wear it around cities and environment, but maybe just have it locked for wvw and spvp
Okay, your title seems misleading from your point, at least I think. Maybe you could just try to figure the puzzle out yourself if you want to complete it so badly.
I have a feeling that they did this on purpose to make you think about what you’re making. You can’t just craft say… 10 of these, 2 of these, 5 of these, etc.
You have to plan out how many dowels you’ll need for which sigils to put in how many pieces of blades & hilts etc. It’s just worse for cooking.
I agree with Dard… if you want to use GS roll a warrior (or mesmer… but diff)
lol there’s so much fail in this thread.
