You roughly get .9ectos for every item you salvage. I sell rares that are currently around 27/28s+. Everything else I just salvage with the mystic. They have the same rate, the only benefit is the 100% on getting the sigil back with the BLSK.
If you just want the money I would sell. However I love the chance of getting a rare and hitting it big with that 8-10g sell (or use because I’m a sucker for a good color).
I bought 50 unid dyes when they were low and I was going to flip them. I ended up using them all lol. I think I got 2 rares that came out to about 1g =(
Hahaha, we all are =)
The only thing I can think of that might suit that would be a greatsword mesmer.
Ele partially but doesn’t have great variety in builds and isn’t great at range.
Warrior partially but you’d probably have to switch from rifle to other weapons a lot, especially in dungeons (not challenging)
Ranger partially but not an assesst anywhere except underwater
a bunch of stuff
Holy thread-necro batman! This stuff was from when the game first came out. Note the guy who said “The game is only 3 weeks old” along with the “3 months ago” date.
As somebody said already, there’s a work around so get over it.
I saw a video on youtube of the ‘ledge’ exploit at lvl 54 I think. Maybe you could check that video and see if the loot is there. Too lazy to provide link, sorry.
I would also suggested ele and mesmer.
I would say ele because of the depth (like thereon said) and also the fact you will never 1,1,1,1,1,2,1,1,1,3,4,1,1,1,1. More like f3,4,5,f1,3,5,4,f4,3,4,5,7 to target (with 7 being arcane flash) as a typical non-keybound ele combo.
However I would also say mesmer because ele is pretty much locked into D/D. S/D is very comparable but staff is only good for the range
My favorite is illumination dye.
Of course! You don’t even need gold for this! You can farm the materials.
You get XP. You get about 10 character levels from leveling one crafting profession from 1-400.
Since you can switch crafting professions, it’s possible to level a character from 1-80 by mastering all crafting professions.
If you just master 2 normally while leveling your character, that’s about 20 levels just from crafting.
I agree the duration needs to be increased. I hate setting up a combo just to see if disappear before anybody gets hit or even sees that its up.
Although I think the duration should be increased for PvE/WvW. Not PvP
Random side note: Was in AC on my D/D ele and had a mesmer in the group. Had the queen pinned in a corner and I had just given the group area might through fire field/leap share combo when the mesmer popped time warp. It wasn’t planned, but oh was it glorious seeing the HP bar just melt.

I don’t think this is true at all. When you first hit 80 this might be rough, but just spend a little time farming or doing dungeons and you’ll be fine. You get 26 silver per dungeon run which will get you a couple of way points. Go do AC explorable paths and you should have at least a gold.
Like somebody above said, you get one green item from an event and that’s the cost of the WP. Add up the junk sales, blues, salvage materials, etc. and you will definitely come out ahead. The only way you’re really going to be losing money is if you teleport all over the map to get different POIs or SP challenges.
Dungeons are great. I had always considered myself a PvP guy but I find myself playing dungeons more and more.
It is also the opinion of many players that Thieves and Elementalists are the two most overplayed and overpowered professions in the game. One is Medium armour, the other is Light.
So.
Yeah.Heard that ANet, nobody mentioned mesmers. So stop nerfing us, thank you.
They were considered that way before they got nerfed, so somewhat justified. Also, the community needs time to understand game mechanics, I have a feeling they seemed OP because the community didn’t understand mesmers. The more they start to understand how other classes work, the more the game will be balanced.
So logically, if you’re a D/D Elementalist being in melee range of a mob you’re most likely going to draw aggro based on proximity and doing a lot of damage.
I noticed that it’s either me (D/D ele) or a guardian that usually has the bulk of aggro. I never really thought about it until your post.
It’s not bannable, but you might get banned. That’s because a lot of gold sellers will transfer money in game and when they appeal the band, the most common response is “I was giving money to a friend”
I’m sure they have an automatic system in place that looks at how much gold is being transferred through game mail and they start to watch those accounts. So again, to directly answer your question, it’s not bannable but you might get banned.
There’s another one for gold. I’ll have to update it when I get home and check but I think it’s illumination… or something.
That’s true Raf, but some are more specialized than others. Ask people who do guneons often if they would rather have a necro or mesmer or in the group. I guarantee 9 out of 10 would be mesmer.
I’m not bashing necros, I’m just saying they are tailored better for certain activities.
Like awesome said, make your own, then it will fill up. That’s the best thing since sliced bread, don’t bash it ;-)
That’s going to be a tough trade. I haven’t checked the TP for awhile but I believe dusk is going for a lot more than dawn. Everybody wants twilight… not many want… uh, the light version.
The whole game is endgame because you scale down. I’ve been to beginning areas countless number of times on my 80s.
I only semi agree. I think D/D ele should be nerfed a little, but other builds/weapon sets should be buffed to make multiple builds viable.
I guess the downside is that you can’t look to the side or behind you while you’re running. I’m not in game right now but I’m assuming you run wherever the camera is facing if you hold down both.
Would mainly affect you in WvW. Spotting flanking invaders or running from zergs
I do like this idea. I hate that distance takes into account vertical distance as well. It would definitely make more sense to have it this way. If you’re really defending a castle (maybe medieval reenactment?) you would easily be able to hit people at the door and not get hit by them. The defense team in the game doesn’t have as much advantage as they should, unless they deck the thing out in defense siege.
My pleasure. I’ve very glad I could help and I’m glad you got the advice you were seeking.
Np, glad I could help. My apologies, I didn’t realize it was AC story, not AC exp. That makes a lot more sense =). Best of luck!
Another thing to help (one time) is to make mystic weapons. If you have 50 skill points that you don’t plan on using. Do a little research on what mystic weapons are going for and compare the prices to the components (mystic coins will be the biggest expensive).
Go run ascalonians catacombs, 70% lvl per run. Easy peasy
You mean solo it, or get a group for it?
I was trying to get a group for it with no luck at all.
Cheers.
I find that surprising if you were using GW2LFG.com
Also, I know you said guilds aren’t for you, but they are a little different in this game. It’s nice because you can join multiple guilds. Heck, you could just turn off guild chat unless you needed something. Represent them, pop in, ask if anybody wants to do AC exp, then represent a different one and ask there. Just a suggestion, good luck!
I can understand why you’re frustrated, but honestly I don’t think it’s warranted. I imagine you just come here to blow off some steam and get it out of your system, so I’ll just leave it alone with one thing: I love a game that has several different ways of leveling up.
We have been told by devs that it ONLY affects your chance of getting better loot from monster kills.
Therefore, it should not effect mystic forge, harvesting, looting bags, chests, etc.
They eat it. The code gets wiped and puff, it’s gone. It’s a gold sink to help with inflation. Same as WP and armor repair.
It’s Anet’s way of keeping inflation down. Think about it. If all money gained stayed around, people would get more rich, collectively, as the game went on. 1gold today would be worth 10s in a couple of months. Money rewards from kills/dungeons etc. would have to increase all the time or else they would be worthless.
WvW experience is normalized across the board meaning it takes the same amount of time to go from 2 -> 3 as it does to go from 79 -> 80.
PvE experience does not function the same way, you can go from 2 -> 3 in about 5 minutes meanwhile 79 -> 80 takes multiple hours.
That’s not true in the slightest. It’s slightly slower in the beginning of WvW because you’re getting less kills. Yeah you’re level 80, but your armor sucks. My guess is you’re dying more and the kills aren’t as high. You also might be alsower due to having less movement skills so you’re missing some events w/ the zerg.
I don’t have a great concept of either class at higher levels. I’ve never played a necro and my mesmer is very low. I’ve been told that staff is one of the best on the mesmer for AOE/events (Still not that great), with GS close behind.
Here’s my two cents: PvE events become very boring end-game. They might be fun now because they change all the time, but in orr/cursed shore there are only 2 or 3 viable routes to follow. Just from reading your post, it seems like it would be best to have a necro for farming (when you wanna make some money), and make your mesmer your main. The mesmer is fantastic for WvW and dungeons, which I think will hold your attention a lot more than event farming.
Sorcerer you’re looking at mainly necro and ele (although classes like guardian can use staff too). The most common ele build right now is actually up close with dagger dagger, so that might not fit your play style. Also necros are mainly good at WvW zerging and PvE event farming, they aren’t very sought after in dungeon runs.
As somebody said earlier almost all classes can focus on anything and fill several roles. I think the limiting thing will either be the look you want or what you want to focus on end-game.
If you’re a casual player you probably wont care. If you’re more hardcore they mainly focus on sPvP, WvW, or speed-dungeons/ultra high level FoTM. The later will typically be warrior, guardian, or mesmer.
There’s a couple different options. Mainly: 1) Crafting 2) karma 3) dungeons 4) WvW
My personal preference is to do dungeons. They are vendors in the southpart of LA. You’ll see 8-9 vendors all in a row on the map, you can go there, preview the armor and find the stats you want (each dungeon has 3 different sets for each armor type). Then when you find what you want you farm that dungeon.
Seriously best thing to do is make a toon and try it for a few levels, if not to your taste try something else.
The difference in this game is any proffession can do almost anything and it makes finding what to play easier. There are casters mele casters that can be ranged and visa versa depending on weapons and skills. Just jump in and have a blast
Yeah, kinda. The only thing I’d say about this is there are some professions that change end game.
Two examples from my experience: Rangers destory low levels. You feel ultra powerful leveling up, especially with your pet. You start to get to end-game, dungeons, WvW, etc and you see they are lackluster almost everywhere.
Eles are very weak in early levels. You don’t have the defense to play in close and the staff feels weak and slow. You can’t switch attuements very fast at all. Once you get all your traits and skills set up, you start to feel incredibly powerful.
I’m sure there are more examples, but just two main ones.
Yes! No newcomers should be allowed to do CoF. It has now forever been determined a speed/farming dungeon. Anet needs to put up a sign out front that says “No nubs allowed” And they will be instantly killed if they have less than full exotics on.
Haha, this never happened with me on my personal level. However I freaked out when it happened to my pet. I must have sent in about 3 or 4 bug reports to Anet during Beta. Once I figured it out I send an apology report lol.
They do work. 3% won’t be that noticable, wait till you get to around 9% with the higher level ones. Also as Culwenimos said, it’s +10% xp per kill.
In order for this not to be a wall of text, you’d have to tell us your playstayle, or at least other characters/classes you have been.
Each class is pretty different and excels in a couple of ways, also excelling in specific areas of the game. If you think you’d like to dungeons there’s a couple of classes, wvw a couple, sPvP a couple, etc.
Hahaha, thanks! I’m glad you got the answer you were seeking. If you need anything else let me know, I’m happy to help. Sorry about bailing on AC, we’ll definitely hit it up sometime.
btw you don’t have to reply as i wont be back to this topic. And i removed my like from your video.
Oh burn! He won this one! [/sarcasm]
I haven’t watched the video yet but will soon. Thanks in advance.
I agree.
But when you think about it, I don’t think they actually expected anybody to be a ranger. So there’s your 7
Oh my days… after 5 months with the game i didnt even know quivers exist yet. Well looks like i know what ill be adding to my thief after i get back from holiday.
This was added when FoTM was added. Recipe includes essence drop from FoTM, 250 t6 mats, 50 ectos, 240 philosper stones thrown into mystic toilet to poop out your back piece.
It definitely depends on what you want to do and your personal play style.
Warrior and thief are more support with the bows. Warrior is great for AOE and using burning. So if you choose to go that path it might be best to focus on condition damage. Thieves are also great with condition damage due to cluster bomb and poison cloud, pretty much the 2 skills you will be using. I know a main play style with that would be to stand in combo fields and spam cluster bumb (like ranger’s healing skill).
The issue I think you will face is both of these classes are much better with different weapons. Of course you can use these bows, but almost every build you find will be using these as secondary/backup weapons.
I know you dislike ranger (so do I even though I have a level 80… or maybe especially since I have a level 80) but that really is the only viable class to main a bow with.
It really depends what you want to do. It seems necros are great for WvW zerging, staying alive, and PvE/event farming.
Mesmers are great for tactical WvW (portals), sPvP, and dungeons.
Pets are actually really good. Lots of extra free DPS basically.
You must work for Anet =). They aren’t extra as they have been balance around. And just remember that they are mostly dead when you run dungeons or fight bosses. Not to mention they pull mobs or trigger penalties like running up the eletric bolts in FoTM.
To the OP, sounds like what you want is a ‘typical’ ranger, however that’s not what the GW2 ranger is.
If you do deicde to go with a ranger, I would at least recommend getting a warrior to level 20 or so and trying out a rifle. That’s pretty much what the ranger should have been. Actually, the scout in the snowball mayhem is what the ranger should have been.
Check out the mystic shortbow. If you have the mystic coins and skill points for it, it’s amazing.
You can google the recipe for more accuracy, but it’s 30 mystic coins, eldritch scroll (50 skill points), 5 ancient shortbow stave, and 5 (whatever t6) strings.
Feel free to PM me if you want more info. Have fun!
Edit: You put those 4 items in the mystic toilet and poof! New sbow.
That’s not necessarily true Vaya. However, this has been suggested countless times by lots of rangers.
Most people are strongly for it, some are strongly against it. I’m not sure how having the OPTION to get rid of it would hurt some people.
Also people go around saying “It’s the defining mechanic of the class!” Not really. Thieves have stealth but they don’t have to stealth, Eles have attuenemnts but they don’t have to swap, necros have pets but they don’t have to use them, engineers have kits but they don’t have to use them, etc etc etc.
Another defining trait of a ranger is spirits but we all know how kitten those are.
AC and CoF are both underground – it’s always a night time there… so, yes.
Are you positive? That seems more like just making an assumption. I could go underground right now but it would still be daytime.
I’m assuming that nighttime/daytime is based off of server time.
If you mean you’d like it so you could keep the token without taking up inventory space then I agree. Or at least deposit them in the collectibles tab. They just made rare crafting mats depositable so I would think they should do the same for tokens.
It would also be great if they did the same for ALL food/potions (however, I don’t see that happening).
If you mean you’d rather get money than tokens, then just buy rare armor (the first page at the vendor, 20/30 token stuff) and salvage it for ectos. I haven’t tried it yet, but I saw the suggestion so ism assuming you can salvage from those vendors.
