And yet, this text suggests that anybody could acquire one:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/my-legend-grows-forging-your-first-legendary-weapon/

… as if following your dream and working hard are enough to fulfil your ambitions. As in life, it’s not. You need a trunkload of fortune, too.

Anybody can get a legendary. They never said “casual players can play casually and get a legendary playing 5 hours a week”.

By all means you can get a legendary, you just have to change your playstyle and get lucky.

Anybody can win the lottery by buying lottery tickets, it doesn’t mean every single person in the world who buys 1 lottery ticket a month will win.

Advanced gathering tools: What's the point?

in Crafting

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

For me it would mainly be the stacks. More uses mean less inventory space used.

Also since it is of better quality, I assume it either means that you have a better chance of harvesting rare items (such as dyes for gathering or jewels for mining) or a better chance of obtaining multiple gathers per swing. Or both.

Monthly are a little crafty!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

Honestly, I think this is a good idea. They are helping the casuals feel like they don’t need to play hours per day to keep up.

The hardcore players could easily farm the monthly, get 10 laurels, on top of the 4/5 daily already out, getting 15 laurels. They could buy 30 dye, 6 pieces of rare armor, or 30 t6 crafting mats. They would easily sell these while the supply is still low, before the less hardcore/more casual players complete their monthly to get the laurels.

The hardcore players would get a jump on the items before prices drop because of more supply for the 3 items listed above. I applaud Anet for this idea, and if you weren’t whiny, inconsiderate, unappreciative players then you would to.

I don’t believe that is possible. I think the most you can do is upgrade one tier. So you would have to throw in 4 masterwork items. They say it’s 20% chance for an upgrade, so I must have been extremely unlucky my past 10 tries (all masterwork)

I would say mesmer and necromancer are your top two. After than I think ranger and engineer are both equal as well. Ranger can be great at times with popping quickness or getting inside a time warp and just unloading bleeds, but of course you have to be flanking. The nice thing is that ‘flanking’ is very generous.

Vehemently defending? Im only stating it is ridiculous to be against mf. There is a crusade against mf in a game where challenge is near zero because “you sacrifice some stats”. Just let people use whatever they want. That is what I am vehemently defending.

The issue is that MF users are selfish to impose such change for their sole benefit. No matter how small the change is, it remains that they made a selfish decision against their party members in a game that should be cooperative.

Just average every player MF in a party ANet and everything will be fine.

That solution won’t work

1) People using MF will complain that they die more because glass cannon gear, therefore they are paying more in repair to give benefits to the party.
2) You could exploit this by having a lvl 1 toon party with a lvl 80 in full MF
3) People in a party who don’t want MF will be upset at the person using MF. They will have a way to know now, which is pretty much a ghetto gear-check/inspect

The issue I have is that anti-MFers complain that MF users are being selfish, but demand that they not use MF. You are dictating the way somebody else plays for YOUR personal benefit (3minutes less in a dungeon run). That a great example of selfish and hypocrisy rolled into one.

Nobody will buy ascended rings with laurels.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ethics.4519

i won t say that ascended rings are fair priced….
But did u notice how more powerful are them compared to fotm ones?
+30% MF? +20% Gold?

those infusion cannot be applied to fotm versions and will make you rich….
For how they have been done every players should need one of each…
One for fotm with AR and another with those infusion for other dungeons/pve….

Also infusions with stats for fotm versions costs so much…

I hope they ll rethink those infusions and lower prices on non fotm also…

the thing is you don’t need that +20% gold and +30% magic find. Is there a difference a mob drops 60 copper or 72 copper? And unless you stack a lot of mf you wouldn’t see a real difference either.
Also how much did that +4 vitality, toughness, etc cost? 5 laurels? I don’t think that that is too much.

Kill 100 mobs and now you have 72 silver instead of 60 silver.
Not to mention some dungeon bosses that can drop 20silver. Now you’re at 24 silver instead. It matters.

So, you only have a semi-good point (I wouldn’t even say completely right) based off the current system. Your failure to look into the future is making you seem silly.

Daily Vet Kills - No Vet Counts?!

I’d really love it if even just one month out of the year, those of us who don’t like WvW or dungeons had a month where it was feasible for us to get it without doing something we hate or don’t feel like we’re good enough to do just yet.

Yeah seriously. I hate events too, so they better not put that in there. And crafting sucks and isn’t profitable so that better not be in there. I like to face tank so they desperately need to take dodging out of there. If nubs can’t L2P then I shouldn’t be forced to revive them, so take that way. Don’t make me play PvE, don’t make me WvW, don’t make me go do dungeons or fractls, let me play how I want to. Stop forcing me to do dailies.

The next monthly should be how many times you spam chat in LA, how many times you change the color on your armor, or maybe how many times you whine on the forums.

It’s not so much that there’s less available resources. Turning the none from rich to normal certainly doesn’t seem like much if you assume around 50 available ore in the game to mine (per character) which would drop to around 40 now.

The issue is that people were parking alts there and mining it for 10-15 ore per character, multiplied by anywhere from 2 to 8 characters. Somebody with alts, it would take about 5 minutes to gather 30-100 ori ore. Those people would now have to spend about 20 minutes doing runs to get 15-20 ore. It won’t happen, not nearly as many people that were mining the southsun one.

My system clock is working fine. I’m only getting some credit for vet kills. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t (In orr doing events). I was thinking event vets don’t count, but at the end of the event I put a couple of hits on a vet and the event ended, making the veteran disappear, but I got credit for that one. Just not the one that I attacked100% of the time and killed.

The fact that some count and some don’t means it’s not the system clock.

Adjusted Orr Undead loot drops

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

My guess is they just went overboard with the first adjustments. I don’t think it’s any secret that Anet does minimum (any?) testing before releasing a patch or change. They probably released it, monitored how prices were dropping and how many people were getting these items, and “re-adjusted” (as in scaled back) the drop rates.

What they aren’t considering is that after the huge patch, of course everybody is going to immediately jump on the action (Orr got better! Sweet, everybody zerg there!) but after a couple of weeks people will go back to what they normally do (WvW, fractals, dungeons, farm, etc.)

I’m still a big fan of the game, update, and Anet as a whole. I just think they could use a lot of help/time in the testing department.

1800 GEMS to Transfer?!? vs buy a new game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

With the gem cost so high to transfer (approx 25 bucks or 35-40 gold) it will only encourage people to buy from gold sellers to keep this extortionate cost down.
10 bucks is fine, 25 bucks to transfer, i would say no thanks.

Call it their attempt to stop Xfers, its not, they are trying to make a killing out of this. Its going to backfire on Anet aswell as make them look like moneygrabbers.

Except they allow guesting which no other moneygrabbing company does. We all knew this was coming and Anet did almost everything in their power to notify you of this. You can play with any regional friend any time regardless of server. You just can’t WvW with them, which is good because WvW is dedicated to your server.

Also people don’t need encouragement to buy from gold sellers. You either do or you don’t, so then you’ll either get band or you wont. Anet is also doing the best they can to remove them from game, for two obvious reasons.

It’s a company, they need money. This isn’t some non-profit org that is putting out free games and giving you everything you want. Go find a private server for a different game if you want that.

And the Gear Treadmill begins!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

Sorry about the title. I don’t actually think it’s much of a treadmill, I just used it to get people in the topic :/

Do not give in to these ignorant fanbois. It IS a grind. Gear progression used to be horizontal, meaning you only acquired a new skin beyond the pitifully easy exotic gear to acquire. Now, according to your calculations AND even accounting for “alternative methods” being introduced in the future, it will take MONTHS of DAILY effort to get one set of ascended gear for ONE character and that ascended gear will have stats for ONE BUILD.

Anyone who says this is not a grind is being >willfully ignorant<.

/thread

This has to be sarcasm. I like how people put /thread like they have the last word and NOBODY is allowed to post after them.

By your definition, the game already had a vertical treadmill. Even having white, blue, green gear would be a treadmill because there is a stat increase and it isn’t just visual.

Who would want to play a game where all stats and weapons were exactly the same? PvE players definitely don’t. PvP, sure, which is why in PvP all gear and weapons are equivalent statistically, only differ visually.

1800 GEMS to Transfer?!? vs buy a new game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

That does suck, but this isn’t Anet’s fault.

He got his copy on Christmas and he waited almost a month to start? A little research you would have known about the 7 day transfer limit.

You would have also known that high population servers were going to be more expensive.

You would have also known that the population reporting is based off of who’s playing on the server at the time, not total number of accounts stored there. So if he would have tried during off-peak hours, especially with a month’s time frame, he could have easily gotten in.

The tech support won’t be able to help. You can either pay the fee (still have to transfer at off-peak hours), you can go to his server and not WvW with your guild, or you can just guest in PvE/dungeons.

The issue is that everybody RUSHED to the new dailies expecting something magical. You can easily complete the dailies through normal playing. Oh god! You mean you have to learn to dodge? Four men in a dungeon: Help us out

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

You’re asking a lot. If you want to 4-man it I would wit till you get to 80 so you have all your traits and exotics.

With that being said, the most disposable would be the thief. Since you said it’s the two warriors that have alts, the next suggestion would be for you to use your mesmer. But that won’t make a huge difference since you’re replacing a warrior with a mesmer. If possible I would say replace the thief with the mesmer.

AC story, imo, is one of the hardest dungeons there is (next to TA). It’s a little cruel that Anet decided to have the first dungeon be one of the hardest. I would definitely say grab a 5th, somebody who can show you the ropes and help you through it.

If you are stuck on going 4 man with those classes and level, then I would just say run it over and over again learning the mechanics. There’s a certain order that you should be getting mobs, something like Cultist/Necromancer>elementalist>mesmer>monk>warrior/ranger.

1. an player with magic find gear – final stats – 3000 power 55% critical rate 30% critical damage
2. an player with bersek gear – final stats 3000 power 55% critical rate 114% critical damage
now let’s test efficiency
average damage / 20 hits :
player 1
9 hits x 1000 damage (non critical ) = 9000 damage
11 hits critical – x 1800 damage= 19800
total – 28800
player 2
9 hits x 1000 damage (non critical ) = 9000 damage
11 hits critical – x 2640 damage= 29040
total – 38040
So an player with mf gear got up to 40 % less DPS then an player with bers. However i did not included in this calculation sigils and runes, that would increase the dps diference to over 70%

why do people hate magic find?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ethics.4519

It’s simple.

You use magic find gear, you’re effectiveness to the group drops. Thus making the group have to work harder because of your selfishness. You’re either doing less DPS or go down much easier, either way you’re making the group carry you more. Using magic find brings nothing at all positive to the group, which is why it’s frowned upon.

So go ahead and use it if you want, but don’t claim you’re just as effective with it, that’s a flat out lie.

1) I use PVT rare armor.
2) I use MF rare armor and nobody in the group goes down.

Which scenario am I less effective in, keeping in mind that MF has Power AND precision.

The only answer is 1 or 2. You don’t have to make more scenarios because I can play that game too. I’m just showing that sometimes (not all the time) MF is actually better.

Mounts? (what is classified as a mount)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

so having a mount with 33% movement speed will make the world smaller but running with a 33% movement speed doesn’t?

i hope to one day hear a logical argument against mounts, because up to now i have not heard a single one.

The only reason I wouldn’t want mounts is because I don’t want it to lead to mounted combat. However, I’m okay with the idea of mounts in general.

Right now though if you get hit you’re put in combat, which lowers your speed. If there are mounts and you are mounted, will you get knocked off? will you be knocked down? will you just be slowed? etc.

If you get knocked off well, that would be pointless in PvE since there are mobs everywhere. If you don’t get knocked off that would be unfair in WvW. If they could seperate it from WvW I think it would be best. Although I want mounts in WvW, it would be too hard to balance/code it for the differences.

Trading Post Flipping

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

It’s probably the best way to get money, unless you think yourself incredibly lucky.

The 15% is taken out of the money you get from selling something. 5% is taken to list the item, then 10% is taken when it is sold. Therefore you have the option to list something and remove it, with only 5% being taken.

The basics like somebody said is buy high/sell low. If you know what items to look for, you can find items that have a buy order at 85% or lower the cost of the sell order. Therefore say you buy 100 items for 30 copper, then you relist them for 50 copper. If you sell them all then you make a profit of 12.5 copper (not 20 because of the fees) per item, or 12.5 silver total.

The other idea is if you know when things fluctuate. Before the huge bot ban unID dyes were selling for say 4 silver. After the ban they are going for 14 silver. If you would have bought and stored 250 dyes at 4 silver, then sold them after the ban at 14 silver, you would have a total profit of 1975 silver, or 19.75 gold.

Another scenario is if you can craft an exotic or legendary that is worth more than the components. Say an exotic dagger sells for 5 gold, but the materials cost 4 gold on the TP. Although the scenario is unlikely due to low profitability from crafting, you would have made 25 silver.

Finally you have the luck + TP purchasing. You can buy 4 rares and through them in the MF hoping to get an exotic. You can buy 4 masterwork dyes and put them in the MF hoping to get a rare (or 4 low cost rares hoping to get an abyss/midnight). You can buy cheap rares and salvage to get ectos, or you can buy cheap crafting materials, make rares, and salvage to get ectos, which you in turn sell.

If you need more explanation then this then you probably don’t have the drive/desire to make this work for you, much like leablo said.

Anet will most likely never say “We will never have mounts”. It’s much easier to say something may happen as to saying it will never happen. What if 90% of the population wants mounts in a year, then that 10% that doesn’t will be kitten because they out right said they wouldn’t have mounts. If they don’t bring in mounts than that 90% will be upset that they aren’t bringing in mounts.

Now… this got me thinking. Is this the way the majority of players feel?
Personally I was brought up to always be honest, no matter what. People will always know where you stand and it shows character and integrity.
BUT.. does(should) this also apply to a company? Would you even want it to?

So here’s my question to you guys…

Would you prefer Anet to give a simply definitive answer to a question, end of?

YES – You would prefer them to do that. You may not agree with the answer, but you will know what is happening / not going to happen?

NO – You would rather be kept in suspense, always hoping that your desire will be added to the game at some point?

Before you jump in and say yes/no.. think about it ! (its not just about mounts, can be anything you ever dreamed of having in a game.)

Wow, can’t believe you quoted me and started a new thread about it lol. I’m honored but disgusted at the same time. Remember when I said stop reading into things so much, well…. STOP READING INTO THINGS SO MUCH.

As everybody as already pointed out, this has nothing to do with honesty. Anet likely DOESN’T KNOW if they will implement mounts in the future or not. They could not like the idea right now, but it doesn’t mean they are opposed to ever implementing them.

What if somebody asked you “Will you ever have kids?”. Some people will say yes, some people will say no, and some people will say maybe. Just because you don’t see something happening now doesn’t mean it won’t in the future.

Want another example? What are you going to eat for breakfast August 21st, 2013?

LOL they are way over active with over modding on this forum. How did the my post end up in this whine fest lol……….What I said in this video is exactly what is happening in this post.

They want all the discussion to be in one place. Your posting would have easily started more discussions about the update. I don’t see what’s wrong with this? They actually read opinions and take feedback, answering some questions occassionally. It’s easier to have it all in one spot rather than 10/20 posts that just say the same thing in different locations. You’re not special just because you made a video about something we can all read.

Anyway, I feel bad for Anet. They put tons of work into the game and actually listen to our feedback. Then whiny entitled people just crap all over the work. Can anybody seriously tell me this game wasn’t worth $60? And if you bought gems that’s your fault. I did but I’m perfectly fine supporting Anet.

No I’m not a fanboy. There are certain issues and employees that I don’t agree with, but overall they have an excellent product. Offer legit suggestions instead of just moaning and whining about stupid stuff that doesn’t even matter.

While SM can be story mode, i actually see it way more often used as “stonemist castle” the big fort in the middle of EB (eternal battlegrounds)

I’ve always heard/seen that as SMC. But that would be a good addition
