It does kinda suck, but it is called “personal storyline” for a reason.
Even in the ending ones where they start to match up, your toon is the hero. I wouldn’t consider it my storyline if I party with a friend, and his/her toon is the one in all of the cutscenes, and my guy is just there helping.
it’s case by case. As an example, I got an exotic from jormag, a bow with some sigil. The bow was selling for 1gold64silver. The sigil was selling for 1gold67 silver. I used a BLTC, sold the sigil immediately, and got 3 ectos from the salvage.
i totally agree. WTB difficult jumping puzzles!
The only thing that came close was mad-king and wintersday!
The current JPs that are always around are time-consuming at best, not difficult. You figure it out once and it’s a piece of cake after. Although they are still fun and sometimes beautiful, the challenge is gone.
They have a lot of casual and hardcore stuff. Like PvP. They have sPvP and tPvP, WvW they have lower tiers and higher tiers, dungeons they have story mode/explorable mode/ fractals.
But The only ‘hardcore’ jumping puzzle was mad king which is gone, and arguably wintersday which is gone.
And Jazz, I’ll add you once I jump on tonight
As it is now the outmanned buff is abused by enemies (we do it too) to know that the enemy is weak and that it is time to attack him.
The outmanned buff should help the outmanned server. It should give useful attributes like vitality or armor and on top of that only be visible to the server itself. Other servers shouldn’t see that your server has this buff, otherwise it is an intitation to attack you.
Disagree, you shouldn’t punish the server for having more people. I think the buffs are fine as they are (you know, if they were working). If you’re outmanned, you should get a slightly higher reward for killing and getting loot.
However I don’t think the invaders should be able to see the buff.
Hardest: Eles. I can’t keep up with them.
Easiest: Thieves. They are baaaaaad sheeple
@osicat
I’ve always loved your videos. Two days ago I found your group play one and posted it on my guilds website. Yesterday we practiced some portal bombs and it was glorious… so… so glorious. Thanks and much love
I also haven’t tested this on dragons, but I did it with the fire ele as well. I killed it before and after reset and got the chest both times.
On a side note people were saying that you could guest and still get the chest, after you got it in your home-server. I did tequatl on SoS and got the chest, I immediately guested to IOJ (where I have a friend) and did not get the chest, even though I got gold for the event
I am kind of sad I probably won’t get to see the guild jumping puzzle and there was a post not too long ago that the designer of the mad king one was making a new one.. I would not doubt the guild one is it
Why not? Feel free to add me and guest to SoS when we do ours.
Myself and another officer are really really pushing to get the puzzle one ASAP. We actually voted and swayed everybody to unluck the puzzle mission first, not realizing you had to start at bounty and work your way up. leader quickly reneged on opening up puzzles lol
Thanks for the answers, I’m a thief, and going for a backstab/stealth build so I think I’ll be alright going fully power/crit
I completely agree. Once you get all your power/prec/crit damage gear, if you get bored, you and work on power,toughness/vit,cond damage gear and try out a condition thief. I wouldn’t consider it as viable, but its nice to change it up. Also, cond thief sword/dagger is amazing at locking down eles.
The JP we have nowadays just isn’t enough now that i’ve experienced the mad king JP. That was one of the best jumping puzzle experiences I had in awhile and now everything else just seems plain kitten easy :o.
Not to mention the theme and sadistic style of the puzzle was awesome, the christmas one, although was fun, just didn’t feel dark enough and was ultimately way too easy.
I hope anet has some big plans for future JP like this and I really hope that when the next halloween comes, it won’t just be a rehash of the old event stuff!
I completely agree. I would love to see JPotM (Like fractals, but jumping puzzles of the mists). The JP gets harder and harder and changes every level, but your chest reward, karma, gold, etc (whatever reward) gets higher as you go along. Actually, I made go suggest this now.
One problem with this excellent suggestion.. it’ll be too fun and I don’t want to do anything else!
Hahaha, go post on the suggestions! Lets get the support we need!
I would love to see an instance (a lot like mad-king halloween jumping puzzle) that emulated the fractals of the mist dungeon, except jumping puzzle. JPotM if you will.
A solo instance with a combination of jumping puzzles/tactical puzzles. Each level would get harder and harder while the rewards get better (whether it’s a chest, XP, karma, coin, laurels, whatever)
Credit to Lafiel for spurring the idea on another topic.

Per hit. You have a total radius (like 1200 I think? 1500 traited?) where the meteors can fall. They are randomly placed around that area, each meteor has a radius of 230 or 250, that will actually hit the mob/invader. Does that make sense?
Also this might be moved to PhP or Ele forums
I understand where you’re coming from, and you make some good points. It would be nice if the character used both weapon on auto attack (thief D/D, warrior S/S, mesmer S/S). However, I don’t find myself having that big of an issue with it.
Maybe it was just unfair to balance as that should mean extra DPS for auto attack from a mesmer using S/S instead of S/F as you wouldn’t use focus for melee. Then you’re just adding in animation without actually contributing anything.
I agree with your post somewhat. It does all depend on the skills of the player. I consider myself pretty skilled with all my toons, aside from my ranger.
Ive had several fights where an under level was a lot harder to take out than a level 80. I’ve also had fights where the level 80 was a lot more prepared and just countered everything I did.
I’d say it’s about 80% skill+build/20% level+gear
That depends on your class and what you want to do.
You can get away with power/prec/crit damage in dungeons if you’re skilled and know how to avoid attacks. Some PUG dungeons like CoF p1 where DPS is king will ONLY take full zerker 4warrior + mesmer.
Thieves and mesmers can also get away with it because they have a lot of deception and escape skills.
If you plan to sPvP or WvW I would recommend taking some vitality or toughness, maybe a mix of both.
Some classes like necros don’t really need crit damage, as they focus on conditions, and would benefit more from power,toughness/vitality,cond damage or duration.
And then you have some classes like eles that actually have higher damage by taking defensive trait-lines because they have offensive major traits in them.
So, with all that, what’s your class and what do you think you’ll focus on?

Piggy backing off this question. If you’re level 3 and you do level 4, does your daily chest default to level 2 at Jade Maw?
As in, you wouldn’t be able to do level 4, get the reward, then go do level 2?
Yep, that’s pretty much correct. You only get the rewards for your personal level, not necessarily the level you’re completing at the moment. Also, you can only get the daily once per day, per tier. Tier’s are set up like 1-9, 10-19, 20-29, etc. So if you did a level 4, you wouldn’t get another “daily chest” for that tier that day. You’d have to wait til the next day or do another tier.
Ohhh kitten Thanks, I forgot about that. I was mistakenly thinking you got a daily for 2, a daily for 4, a daily for 6, etc.
Why not make it so that you don’t get a chest while guesting?
Since we’re talking about hijacking keeps, I wanted to propose a question. We had some really good fights last night with FA in EB, and occassionally mixing it up with KN as well.
Near the end we took and were defending Medon’s Gap against FA, which I believe was mostly GODS and QQ attacking. We portal bombed them twice, wiping the siege, both times we came back in to find that 6 or 7 people had made it inside the keep, without any walls or doors being down. After the first time we did a mesmer sweep and didn’t find anything, 2nd time they took it. Is there a cheap spot to get through on this keep or anything that might explain what happened?
There is indeed a cheap spot. Cheap spot + port.
We provided the diversion. Thanks for the bags though!
Haha, you didn’t wipe us, you just took the keep. Thanks for all the pancakes!
Portal! I love portaling people. Think about it. You are the main reason your zerg just wiped the other zerg! Maybe not main reason, but you directly contributed to a successful strategy.
I also love pulling people back who thought they were escaping, pulling people off cliffs, or pulling people off keeps so they can die by the hands of my zerg with temporal curtain.
In short, mesmers bring a ridiculous amount of utility to a small or large group in WvW. You might not get as many badges as say a defensive warrior breaking through the front lines, a deathshroud necro spamming aoe conditions, or a Dstorm thief in the middle of the zerg, but it’s about the big picture isn’t it?
You don’t have to buy these items, you can farm them.
It has always cost gold. Time=money

As in, you wouldn’t be able to do level 4, get the reward, then go do level 2?
It really depends what you want to do. Unfortunately, you’re not really going to find that out until you hit 80 and start doing those things.
I had to make 4 lvl 80s before I finally said “Ah-HA! This is my main” which is a mesmer.
I went with mesmer because they are all-around accepted everything. I rock it in sPvP, they are a wanted class in dungeons, I bring amazing utilities for my small group or zerg in WvW. They have a pretty high skill cap and lots of viable builds and ways to play.
If you’re interested in WvW, I’d recommend youtubing every class with “WvW” next to it to watch some playstyles.
If you’re interested in dungeons, warrior, guardians, and mesmers are widely excepted. Thieves and eles are also excepted, however I think necros, rangers, and engineers aren’t very sought after. (Not saying I agree with this, just the way it seems to be – PUG wise).

@ OP
That was addressed in the interview. We can only take their word for it (which has kittened us in the past) but he said there was a completely new system. The mini-fix they did in Jan was a mini-tweak to the system, but this release is a whole new system.
They said they will allow client-side (in option) to pick what level of detail you want people to render, (this is where I start to add in my own insight) that way it will be based on your computer instead of the server. Previously high-end computers still experienced culling no matter what graphic settings were. Hopefully now, high-end computer won’t while still keeping graphics up, and low-end computers might have to just let players render with minimum detail.
Those who disagree with OP should do the same to support their position. Right now, the number of personal attacks and armchair theories is going nowhere.
It’s much easier to prove something is possible, than it isn’t possible. To prove it isn’t possible would require everybody in the world to try it with every different combination. To prove it is possible would require one group to do it.
Plus, it is his claim, it is his responsibility to prove that his claim is true, not our responsibility to prove it is false.
I agree that the attacks got a little out of hand, me included, so I apologize OP. With that being said, he does have a little elitist tone and can be misconstrued as “you guys suck, I can do it, why can’t you?” without actually doing it…. yet (maybe)
What’s wrong with pushing people to try new things?
What you’re essentially asking is what’s wrong with pushing people to play the game in a way that may not interest them.
Why not just enable open-PvP in the PvE zones? What’s wrong with pushing people to try new things?
Yes, that is what I’m asking. What’s wrong with that? It’s just encouraging, not forcing.
If you enable open world PvP in PvE zones then you are FORCING people to either kill or be killed, and deal with all the PvP. Your only options are to either deal with it or quit the game. Whereas your options for the daily are do it, do it sometimes, don’t do it, or quit the game.
How do you find event mob and wvw player tagging after the recent changes?
I just returned ankittenhinking about picking up my Mesmer but i don’t want to lose out on all the loot.
I find it much easier. I would recommend running with GS or staff + sword/focus.
GS is good for #2,#3,#4, staff is good for #5 and the bounce. Sword is great because you can spam #1 without seeing the mob yet + #4 if you need to pull the mobs towards you before they are destroyed lol.
Did Robert apologize for AC yet? I haven’t been following this thread.
Lol, more of set up a pre-emptive “I told you so” moment.
It hasn’t happened to me, but I was in a group where it was happening to a member. We were on TS3, so we just planted him at a crystal and politely told him (read: screamed) when he had a dot over his head.
Side note: When are they going to not target pets? I can understand clones and minions because you can control those…. but pets? really?
Even if he does succeed, is he going to represent the entire argument about playing dungeons in the recommended level range?
This is something that everyone in the lvl 35 range can do. Instead of waiting for the OP alone to provide evidence while bashing him throughout the thread, how about we make some anecdotal evidence of our own? Whatever what side you are on, this is an argument that cannot be won by one member and his/her party.
Because anecdotal evidence can be made up or adjusted based on sub-conscious or conscious bias.
The video won’t really do much in my opinion on what AC dungeon should be or how hard it is, but it will at least back up his original claim ‘AC can be done by an experienced group of level 35 players’.
Although he didn’t specify what path, so I hope he is planning on doing all paths.
I haaaaaate when I have a ranger in my group. I don’t kick them, I just curse on the inside. I wish I didn’t…. buuuut I do.
My first toon was an 80 ranger btw.
It’s ok to kill the hundreds of other animals and also humans, but you have a problem with the rabbits?
By humans you mean bandits/pirates, and by animals you mean hostile monsters of nightmare? If so, sure.
Not all bandits and pirates kill people. Without a trial, which is not held, nobody deserves the death sentence. Obviously this is game, but since we are using realistic reasoning, I jumped on.
That’s the new Daily for you. Always pushing players to do things that don’t fit in with their desired play style.
Actually you get to choose from 9, so your statement is false.
No, the statement is fine, it’s just a misunderstanding on your end. What you seem to be missing is that we have to choose 5 tasks from a selection of 9 to complete the Daily, and it’s not always easy to find 5 tasks on that list that everyone wants to do.
Ambient killing, being directed to perform a specific activity in a specific zone you had no intention of visiting, PvP tasks.. plenty of things on that list that aren’t necessarily going to appeal to everyone.
What’s wrong with pushing people to try new things? Everybody complained about everybody being in LA for FoTM or Orr for farming. Now you have a reason to go to low level zones.
It’s pushing not forcing, as you have 9 options like you said, and the fact is that you don’t have to do any of these. You can do them, ignore them, quit the game, etc.
@silk we’re pretty past that. He said he’s doing it this Sunday.
We’re still interested in the twitch/streaming link if you have it yet. Remember, no editing when you post on youtube =)
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/dungeons/
The first paragraph…
“Dungeons are huge, private adventure areas that only teams of high-level players dare explore. The risks are immense but the rewards are great for those who brave the hazards of the dungeons of Tyria.”
If it’s for teams of high-level then why start a dungeon at level 30/35 requirement?
“only teams of high-level players dare explore” False. Low-levels ‘dare’ explore it.
“and explorable mode, where players can access even more challenging content with new goals and obstacles.”
Also false, CoF p1 is arguably easier than CoF story.
“Your party chooses which of three approaches you’ll use to tackle the dungeon”
Another false statement. Multiple dungeons have more than 3 paths.
When you quote an article to prove your point, make sure there aren’t a lot of hyprotical or false statements in it. Not to mention the subjectivity of what “high-level is” as lvl 30 is high to a level 1, and level 80 is high to a level 30.
This is crazy. OP, are you vegetarian? You know millions of innocent animals are killed everyday just for human consumption. Also, millions of those animals kill other animals for animal consumption. That’s in REAL LIFE as well, not just a video game where nothing matters.
If you eat meat you’re hypocritical. “I don’t condone killing animals in video games, bring my steak!”
Can we lock this already?
Yes, definitely. I actually quit my first mesmer around that level because it was baaaaad. I started another because I was bored of my other 3 80s and couldn’t pick a main. If you’re struggling just try crafting or WvW zerging to get past those levels.
40+ you’ll feel so OP it’s ridiculous. Try sword/Focus. I disliked that a lot of first but now I left it, it leads to some huge huge spikes. Also, if you’re having trouble with phantasms dying too quickly, make sure you get aggro first. If you see the mob turn to get the phantasm, might as well shatter.
I came here to talk about a little wvw action between Fang, BT, and GODS last night but I think I stumbled into the TC/FA chat.
Even though you got us repeatedly with your numbers and a couple of well placed choke points BT, I still think you for the couple kills I got before going down, and the glorious exotic warhorn you gave me.
You’re welcome and good fights. And I thank you for providing some excellent footage for the weekly recap video.
Since you seem to have taken a compliment and a joke into a kitten contest, I would much rather have an exotic than ‘excellent footage’.
“Hey everybody, watch how our 40 man zerg wipes these 15 people lawlz. So many badges and bags and everything w00t, so elite. Nice job jumping the wall, abusing culling, and spamming AOEs, so elite pro brah”
Sorry but you aren’t thinking very far.
What you have suggested would only be viable if…. extreme DR is applied on FOTM or on the gullible assumption that players would only do fotm once a day. Which wouldn’t be the case if loots were improved to levels of your suggestion.
Dismantle your own suggestion again and think over it.
Loot balancing has never been easy. Simply because farming isn’t illegal yet hardcore farmers though a minority are able to tip the economy by that much. Yet if you introduce quotas/limitations, wholly ‘legitimate’ players would be QQing about being unable to play as they please.
So think it through. Hard. It isn’t easy.
You haven’t actually stated why my proposal is bad. You’ve only insisted that it is bad without providing any body of evidence to support that conclusion.
So I’ll ask again: please, prove to me that my proposal is unreasonable.
I completely agree. He talks about people “farming” but it’s quite hard to farm fotm. Each chest still takes 20 minutes or so with a good group, and that’s on the very easy levels. You could easily have different RNG per fotm. So ontop of (2+ masterwork) or whatever limit you institute, you could say 50% for rare under 10, 60% rare for 20, 75% rare for 30, 80% rare for 40 etc, and add exotics on top of that.
Lets see, do fotm taking say 45min-1 hr and get 1 to 2 rares. Or farm events on main/alt + guesting and get 10 rares for 45min-1 hr. Tough decision, not to mention world events are a piece of cake and fotm requires coordination and knowledge.
I guess I don’t really understand the issue. If you guys want help on dungeon strategy let me know. I’ll gladly show you through the ones I’ve been through and can help you out on TS3, raidcall, skype, whatever. Having a medium-experience party on voice chat is sometime better than a highly-experienced party typing.
As for guild missions, don’t expect to be doing t6 bounty or anything. Even large guilds have to build alliances, probably, to finish those.
You can still sPvP, just learn your classes and strategy.
You can still farm in Orr
You can still take camps/sentries in WvW, or join a larger zerg.
Make guild alliances
I think Anet deserves 100% more credit for making a video game with so many tens of thousands of variables and players, and that it works so wonderfully. Not to mention their world-class support.
I did not get my first 10 daily ring until my 8th day, and on the 10th I was able to buy my 2nd ascended ring and move on to fotm 20+. The replay value is great and the loot from fractals is the best in game. I think whiners like all of you will never be satisfied, so why should they bother with your complaints about a system that is FUN and WORKS?
You must play a necromancer. This thread was dead 3 months ago.
The problem was solved (somewhat) when they made it so you could get a ring w/ 10 pristine relics.
Nothing really to say about the build. I just wanted to say I find it a great guide because I think the humor you introduced is really funny. Entertaining and knowledgeable, nice.
I haven’t really played with the mantra that much. I’ve recently just switched my mesmer from an alt to a main as I love playing him.
You have so many different builds available it’s ridiculous. I have an 80 ranger, thief, and ele. Ranger is broken, thief gets bland sometimes, and ele is the same combo almost all the time.
I feel like every single weapon that the mesmer can use brings a certain utility, so you really can have all weapons and change them up on the scenario.
You complain about cast time for the mantra, but that’s your fault. You really need to pop those before you get into combat, or when you’re in a safe spot, say using LOS or positioning.
Edit: I completely forget to mention my favorite part! You bringing up the thief. Man these are ridiculous easy to kill on mesmers. I love nothing more than seeing an enemy shadow refugee and dropping temporal curtain right outside, pulling the team out, immobilizing them with the leap and going to town on them lol. They almost always act like little kittens just born “What? What happenend? Where am I? what’s going on?”
(edited by Ethics.4519)
We all know rabbits are the spawn of the Champion Rabbit from FoTM. Run Away!
I still fully support a true auto-loot system. The only reason I can think of would be bots. Like other things (DR) this only hurts the player base more than the bots. Easy enough to program an extra “spam F” into a bot than it is for a player to be running around killing everything, have to stop and turn around to pick up a bag if it’s even noticed.
Check again. TC got their points this week from Mag, and Mag and Yaks are switching spots, giving TC a new red team to take points from. If TC keeps up the same pressure, they’ll be back in 2 weeks, maybe 3.
I say 3-4 weeks with way things are going, and SOS pulls it together. If not, then 2 weeks See FA vs KAIN vs TC at that time.
A lot of strong WvW guilds left SoS for BG and others. I wouldn’t really say we need to pull it together, but just balance off. We have a couple of guilds left, but with the beating we started talking the casual- WvWers are hiding at dragons and dungeons until we start to win again.
I’m predicting a fall to tier 3 or 4 then a bounce back up a tier.
I came here to talk about a little wvw action between Fang, BT, and GODS last night but I think I stumbled into the TC/FA chat.
