Ethics.4519

This game isn’t very alt-friendly. But that can be said about all MMORPGs (at least the ones I know of).

I have never been huge into alts. All other games I find myself usually either maining a healer or an archer/ranger, and alting with the other one, not really caring. But for some reason I find myself widely addicted to making new characters in leveling in this game. I think I accredited it to all classes being able to do everything, or the fact that there is no healer and the ranger is just baaaaaad.

I feel your pain OP. I’m not a fan of calendar-gating. It doesn’t matter how much you grind, you HAVE to wait to get these items.

Why one chest per toon instead of account?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ethics.4519

Why? If I wanted to gear all my alts with ascended earrings that would require 400 ectos. Yet to gear your 1 toon with ascended earrings that’s 100 ectos. Doesn’t seem fair does it?

Not too mention now matter how long I farm, it’s a minimum of say 4 months due to laurels.

If you run dungeons I would say definitely go for the +money from mobs, however if you tend to farm DEs a little more, then I would say go for MF. I was an idiot and ended up getting one that had offensive infusion, based off the name and the lore of the item, not realized that I couldn’t use the utility infusions =(

I mean seriously? +4 power is equivalent to +20% MF? Look at all other armor pieces, you get like 90 power instead of 3% MF.

Why not give tokens in story mode ?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

Someone said something about 1 laurel a day for a storymode, seems like a nice idea to create some interest for any storymode. (Only get a laurel a day per storymode so people dont keep running a specific storymode over another).

Translated into numbers it means that a player could earn 8 laurels a day from the 8 storymodes in the game and 1 more laurel for completing the daily for a grandtotal of 9 laurels a day.

This means a player could earn an ascended amulet in 4 days assuming (s)he plays like 8h+ a day or about 30hours total for such an amulet.
I took 1 hour time per laurel earned.
Assuming most people average 2h/day on the game at most then it would take those people about 2 weeks for 1 ascended amulet.

Question is: what do you people think about this?

Yes a thousand times. They need more ways to get laurels as there is currently only one way to get ascended necklace and earrings, which goes counter to everything that anet has said in the past.

Mossman Question

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

He is SUPPOSED to have an attack when he comes out of stealth. This is a huge hitting attack, and after level 10 I believe has agony with it.

The issue is, probably due to culling, he attacks before he comes out of stealth. It’s like a thief’s backstab + agony + huge HP.

I think it’s completely overkill. I believe Anet got so kitten at everybody for using the tree exploit, instead of banning all those people (because there are TONS!) they just decided to make him incredibly hard.

They are going to do the same thing to the colossus boss once they ‘fix’ that exploit.

The one strategy our group used was to have a designated kiter. He just runs in, grabs aggro, and runs around like a chicken with his head cut off. But when mossman stealths, make sure you stay away from the designated kiter =)

Why not give tokens in story mode ?

Ethics.4519

Wow that’s a lazy reason. You’re telling me ‘Pro-elite’ groups would run story over and over again even if there were 10 tokens, 8 tokens, 5 tokens, etc.? As somebody else mentioned, you couldn’t scale the tokens per level? Maybe a level 35 gets 30 tokens from story in AC, but a level 80 gets 5? You couldn’t add another unique award other than a silly hat that nobody uses?

I didn’t read through all of this, but I think the issue is that you guys make things harder, but the reward isn’t adjusted. It’s not like AC was incredibly easy to begin with. Yes it was easy and it was being ran a lot, but it’s not like CoF path 1 which takes 5 minutes to run. Honestly I enjoy the changes, but it seems silly that the rewards aren’t adjusted.

Just look at dragon chests and meta-event chests. We are all SOOOO thankful that they increased the drops now. You know what, this is what IT WAS like a couple of months ago, then they nerfed the rate into oblivion. It took a couple of months to realize that people aren’t going to spend the time for crappy rewards.

However, when I do get the rare, I always get TWO rares. So I either get no rares, or 2 rare tridents. I don’t run it a lot, but enough to see it’s very strange

New Player Input (Mes vs Nec vs Theif)

in Players Helping Players

Ethics.4519

I absolutely hated my thief for the longest time, as I was squishy and couldn’t really figure the class out. After facerolling on my D/D ele for too long, I went back to thief and I’m loving it.

The thief definitely has some decent concepts to it about when to strike, when to back off, when to reset, etc. Mostly people are hating on thieves because of the culling issues (if invisibility only lasts 3 secs, it will take the enemy 4-5 seconds to see you), and the fact that there were several burst builds were ridiculously OP (they have changed this a little, will see how it balances in the long run).

I also really like mesmer. It feels a bit messy in PvE. It has a hard time tagging mobs reliably when farming at orr events or other areas where you need lots of AOE. It is lacking AOE and needs targets for most skills, unlike the ele where you can either use the skills with nothing targeted or place it on the ground. If you try to WvW or sPvP with a mesmer, just remember to act like the clones, don’t go around dodging and strafing. Either stay still or run forward/backward.

Ethics.4519

I wouldn’t recommend going to the mists yet. Mists isn’t bad if you have some experience on the character, but being instant 80, figuring out what weapons work well together, what trait points to use, what armor stats, what jewel stats, what runes are best, what minor and major traits to use, is a little overwhelming.

As people have said, you can’t really tank, however, you can be more or less ‘tanky’ with certain characters and builds.

As far as healing goes, that’s not really a great option. The reason is because most things that kill you in PvE are one or two hit kills. However, Guardians might be the best at this along with providing Aegis which blocks 1 attack. Engineers have decent healing grenades and the water attuenement for eles provides some minor healing + regeneration.

As far as ‘tanking’ your best classes are going to be guardian, warrior, necromancer, and ele. Most guardian builds are suitable, defensive warrior builds are suitable (although most dungeon parties prefer offensive warriors w/ shouts or banners), necromancers pretty much have only one viable build which is conditions + high survivability, and eles have a very nice D/D build that dances attuenements to have pretty much constant boon upkeep, focusing on regen and protection + auras.

Why no guaranteed ectos?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

Then I must be the most lucky person with my approx 9 ecto’s per 10 salvages.

You get 9 ectos from 10 salvages because sometimes you get more than one ecto from a salvage. The Master Kit has 25% chance of giving you at least one ecto.

No it doesn’t. That 25% is the chance to get orichalcum, ancient wood, hardened leather and gossamer.

You can get globs of ectoplasm using crude salvage kits which have 0% chance at rarer materials.

That isn’t true at all. The return rate on ectos using a Mystic Salvage kit is Half that of a BLK. Which of course makes sense since Mystic is 25% and BL is 50%.

Per 25 uses I get an average of 30 ectos from the BLK and 12 ectos from the Mystic Kit. (works out to less then half because less successful rolls on getting an ecto also means less chances to get more then 1 ecto so you get hit harder then you would expect)

Oh the lies and false information! Your sample size of 30 out of the entire population is rather…. rather poor.

A question from a scrub!

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Ethics.4519

Ethics.4519

pre cursors are weapons that are needed to make a legendary. People are ‘crying’ about them because they are incredibly rare. You only get them from a chance from the mystic forge (also some rare occasions like the karka event chest). So people are frustrated from the RNG aspect of dumping 100s of exotics into the mystic forge and not getting a precursor.

People also cry about them because they claim there are ‘market manipulators’ who have a lot of gold stashed away. So say there are 10 dusks on the TP for 400 gold, then the 11th on jumps up to 800 gold. Somebody who has enough money can but the first 10, then resell them around 790 gold ea, and slowly leak them back into the market.

Ethics.4519

Truly though I wouldn’t worry about crafting until lvl 60 or 70. Hopefully by then you have collected alot of materials and it’ll be less you have to buy. All crafted items can be found on the TP. If you discover something you want that would be cheaper crafted than bought you can always ask a friend you trust to craft it for you.

I usually prefer to level the professions as I level my character, to give myself some different goals every once in a while.

What kind of benefits does the huntsman crafting give?

Huntsman is just another profession to level certain weapons like harpoons, shortbows, longbows, rifles, pistols, and warhorns I believe.

To your question earlier about armorsmithing vs weapon smithing. Each one has a benefit. Weapon smithing you need for certain legendary weapons. If you plan to invest the time into a legendary, definitely go with weapon smithing. You can also craft sigils for your weapons.

(Edit: Look up what legendary you want before hand, then do the appropriate crafting profession. I believe bows would require huntsman, staff artificing, etc.)

As for armorsmithing, you will be able to craft 6 total items for your character to wear (helm, shoulder, top, bottom, guantles, and boots). As opposed to weaponsmithing, you can really only craft 4 items max that you can use, if you dual wield say axe/axe or sword/shield.

Ethics.4519

Thanks guys!

Yeah, im not looking to hit 80 ASAP. WoW turned into a job after a while, so I want to avoid that at all costs for this game.

As far as the crafting is concerned, are you limited to what skills you can take, or do some crafting skills mesh better with certain classes? Or is just everything up for grabs?

I’m not entirely sure what you mean, but crafting is pretty different in GW2. The main two points of crafting are to be able to eventually get a legendary and to gain XP. Almost anything you can craft, you can buy the finished good on the TP cheaper than the seperate materials (almost).

You can have 2 of the 8 crafting professions at a time, and switch whenever you want. However, it cost money to switch BACK to a craft you already have leveled up a little bit.

Picking the crafting profession is completely up to you. If you’re heavy you’ll probably want armorsmithing or a weapon one, medium would be leatherworker etc. Just keep in mind you can use multiple weapons, so my thief is a weaponsmith and I can make her daggers, but I can’t make her shortbow.

Also, think of the professions in two categories. Six of them use fine crafting materials (armorsmithing, weaponsmithing, leatherworking, huntsmen, tailoring, and artificing), while the other two do not (jewel crafting and cook). Since fine crafting materials are usually the limiting item, I would recommend going with 1 of the first 6 I mentioned, and 1 of the last 2.

If you need me to explain more let me know. It’s a little lengthy to type out =)

Edit: Also, jewelcrafting shares some metals on some tiers. So if you become armorsmithing and jewel crafting, tier 1 you will be using copper for both. Tier 2 I believe armorsmithing uses iron and jewelcrafting uses silver. So, if you pick a craft that uses metal, I would suggest going with cook. Cooking is also the cheapest to level up material wise, as you can use lots of different foods that are really cheap to buy. But if you do it here and there, you will use a lot of bank and inventory space keeping intermediate supplies.

GW2armorgallery.com

1) There is a small advantage to some races, and that would be skills. Each race has 1 or 2 skills that are race specific, then two elites. People tend to stick with class specific skills. In general though, play what you think will look best and what storyline you want to follow.

2) You can easily change all gear colors by pressing H and picking the little dropper above your gear. The only colors that wont be changable will be skin tone, hair color, and hair accessory

3) Warriors have good ranged options. Rifle is very good with single targets and are great for sniping weak people in WvW. Longbow is good for AoE skills and setting upfire fields for combos

4) That choice is yours. You’ll want to level up in PvE till you get to around level 30 so you can get your elite skill. You will automatically be leveling to 80 when you’re in WvW (which I believe is the PvP you’re talking about. sPvP is unrelated to leveling). However you still have poor gear and less traits when you’re under level 80.

5) Warriors have some viable roles in WvW. They are a relatively easy class to master. You will probably get owned by theives, mesmers, etc that are very skilled at what they do (even some thieves that aren’t). In zerg mentality, you can run a hammer build that is meant to be in the front lines, pushing people away, knocking people down, and breaking through their defenses

Another possible suggestion, which I would like to see, is to combine all dungeon currencies into one, with the exception of FoTM. Of course, you would most likely have to raise the token amount for armor/weapons etc. from dungeon vendors, but this would allow you to get the dungeon armor you want (TA, Arah, Etc) by being able to play all the dungeons and change things up, instead of farming the same 3 everyday.

The only issues I would see is you would have to raise the difficulty of some dungeons, AKA CoF p1 =).

Where is AC? (and why do messages need to be at least 15 lol)

BTW, I don’t know any of this game’s abreviations. Real pain since that’s all how people talk in chat and I never have the faintest idea what is going on.

AC = Ascalonian Catacombs.

Story mode becomes available at level 30, and explorable mode is recommend to be lvl 35. If you’re in a party where at least one person has done story, they can enter in explorable and you/the party can join. If nobody has done story, then you’ll have to do story mode before you do explorable. Story mode is different (pretty hard IMO=in my opinion) and won’t give you any tokens as a reward. The tokens are used to get good gear from LA vendor = Lion’s Arch. Explorable mode (3 different paths) will give you 60 tokens (each path) the first time you do it in a day, then 20 tokens after that. These reset every day at a specific hour according to your server (7pm est for SoS= Sea of Sorrows)

There is a 15 character limit because Arena net looks down upon people putting “^” or “this” or “agree”. They hope to discourage small posts that don’t add anything to the actual conversation. Most people put “^ /+15charlimit” or something to fill it out, but those usually get infracted.

As everybody else has suggested, I recommend doing it at level 30. So quest/hearts/storyline etc 1-30, then wvw 30-80. 30 will be slow, but it should start to pick up around 50-60. Also, try to find a zerg or roaming group. Sometimes my guild gets put in charge of defending tower/keeps on certain maps, and that’s usually a lot of supply running & waiting.

Also, if there is no queue, don’t feel bad for being in wvw. You’re not taking anybody’s spot.

RIP in peace Robert
