I’m a mesmer that runs mostly zerker.

The difference is that I know how to play.

Mesmers are OP to the baddies. They just don’t understand how to play.

Everybody used to think thieves were OP, so they all made thieves, realized they weren’t OP, and now nobody really cares.

I’m a glass cannon mesmer and rarely ever get aggro. The one time he did he transformed into the wolf-zerker, reset, and followed me exclusively (just ran in circles).

Mostly one of the guards in my party gets the aggro, with every now and then he teleports the double axe attack to me or somebody else.

What the heck is everybody complaining about? You pay for the convenience. If you don’t want it, don’t buy it; if you want it, buy it.

I think it’s one more thing done right by Anet. In no way does this make one player better than another, but it provides a big convenience for somebody if they want to spend the gold (or $$) on it.

It’s in the store till may 13th, once the gold→ gem prices drop, I’ll be buying mine.

I think it’s temporary, but a reoccurring idea. My guildmates told me they annouced skins would be gone, forever, at the end of the month. So get what you want now.

This is absolutely an issue as the game matures and we are working on ways to make running story mode with someone worthwhile even if you have already run it so players just reaching these dungeons can more easily find groups to play with. It will probably take some experimentation before we find the right motivator.

I see this reply was 6onths ago as I did my search. Not sure if anything has changed since I’m somewhat new? Having said that, it still seems like no one wants to do story mode, and I must do it to get to the others. I’ve been asking in Lion’s arch or the respective dungeon’s zone for 4 days now, and no one wants to do them. Something has to be done to make it worth while, because people don’t seem like they want to be bothered doing the story mode when the current system seems weighted to reward the EXP versions.

Agreed. I read the message and got excited, then saw who wrote it. As a ranger in a previous life, I’ve lost respect for that employee =(

I know robert said one issue they had with story in beta was that, even though there were less rewards, they saw tons of “pro” teams running story over and over again for the rewards, instead of doing exp. I don’t think that’s a very good excuse, I just think it’s interesting.

I noticed they put story mode dungeon completion into dailies…. yeah lol, that will work well =(

“Where’s all the mesmers? I need my JP chest now” – No. Rude, impatient, selfish.

Well, coming from a mesmer main, I highly recommend that you make a mesmer and play around with it. You’ll start to learn the skills and tactics, which will be easier to counter. It seems to be right now, like you mentioned, your first obstacle to overcome is to figure out which is the real mesmer, after they stealth and come back. If you play one, you’ll start to realize that clones don’t dodge and clones don’t strife or run backwards. You’ll also realize that on the #2 downed ability, the real mesmer is always the 2nd one to appear (unless you have horrible culling, then good luck).

Also, take a stun break/teleport. I’m not familiar with engineers, but a very popular shatter tactic is to stun w/ the pistol, switch to sword, leap (causing immobilize), then blurred frenzy and shatter. If you can get out of there when you’re immobilized and see them open up w/ blurred frenzy, you can negate a lot of damage.

Meanwhile in the thief forum, they complain P/P is their only non-viable weapon set.

Lol, if you can’t take down a P/P thief, I feel bad for you son. I got 99 problems but a p/p thief aint one.

It’s ridiculous. They realized it was a bad system for rings so they have pristine fractal relics. Even SAB gives you the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ for weapon skins as you can both get them through RNG (Not bound) or with 50 bauble baubles (account bound). Why can’t they do that with fractal skins?

Some other bugs that I have recently noticed:

- Harpies aggro immediately at the beginning of the level, and can reach/attack where you go down
- Sometimes the red aoe doesn’t show up for the harpies with the right timing (not enough notice as it usually happens)
- Bloomhunger agony still hits in the front, even if you dodge.
- Mossman went into wolf form and reset fully (even though all members were still in the same spot). Once returned, he stayed in wolf form the whole fight and followed me (the mesmer) even though I was barely attacking (just ran in circles)

Edit: I also realized this was a bit of a necro. Instead of starting a new one, which I came here to do, I just though I’d revive this one has it has some good info.

Both are boring. You’ll be much better suited for a dungeon with a warrior.

OP is angry and jealous because he/she wants to farm CoF p1 but doesn’t want to reroll a war or mesmer.

If you nerf all areas where a portal is useful, then it won’t be very useful anymore…

Why isn’t this possible?

If you use a race change, it erases your personal story, so you start over from the beginning. During the race change, you select your new storyline (just like making a new character). You keep your level, your trait points, and your skill points. You have to unlock your utilities and elites, along with your weapon skills.

I guess the only issue I could see is cultural armor. You could require the hero to not be wearing any armor during the race change.

That’s my role playing area, get out of there. I like to go to the windmill and act like I’m farming. I ignore the fact that it’s wvw and there’s a large war going on around me where people are dying for the sake of my server’s reputation. The gentle wind on my hair as I harvest onions allows me to wind down the stress of killing spiders.

Seriously, let the big boys WvW and go to sPvP for your no-kill duels.

Can you give us more info into what you like doing? For example, if you wvw, ele is going to be dropping fire fields and lightning fields in a large group zerg, then most likely switching to D/D to play with the glass cannons in the back when you fight. Thief will be waiting around on the sides looking for somebody squishy/injured, go in, kill, stomp, retreat.

If you’re dungeon oriented your best bet will be guard, war, or mesmer

If you like to farm I’d recommend ele, war, necro

I don’t like GS, so I use staff and sword+focus. Mesmers have some of the best group utilities.

I also love pulling people with the focus. Either by a cliff or if they are getting bold and standing too close to the edge of the keep. Just get ready to immobilize them or they scurry back in.

Portal is amazing in the hands of a good mesmer. Add me if you want me to show you how the jumping puzzles work. I can show you the one in EB, and then the one in the borderlands is the same between all 3 (but you can still do them and get rewards, just same layout)

Using portal usually should be requested by the commander or guild leader that you’re with. If you want your zerg or roaming group to use it, you’ll need to coordinate on voice chat. But mainly they would stay hidden. You would want to use veil, decoy, mass invis, and blink to get close to the zerg without them noticing. Then you drop the other side of the portal. If I’m getting hit already, I’ll usually take the portal back, then again just to lose aggro. If possible, try to place the portal behind the group you want to attack. That way you can still keep form, and you’ll be mainly aiming at the squishes first.

Using portal by yourself is a little different. You can place it far away as an, oh kitten plan. Or you can use it to stomp somebody that might have an interrupt. I generally just like to pop some clones and use f4 to ignore any interrupts during a stomp.

Good mesmers already know this. The ones who found this useful should probably roll a warrior just in case.

Well, most the other people have made good comments so I won’t cover general tips.

I noticed with the SAB, that you can actually jump slightly later than you think you would out in tyria.

I have a full fledged naga razr mouse. I don’t use all the buttons though as I got used to using Q, E, R, Z for utilities. It does help a lot.

I highly recommend at least getting one with 4/5 buttons, maybe not the full 12 lol

Fractals = mostly good boss mechanics (some winners like dread & uncategorized) some not so great (bloom hunger)

Then you have the revamp of AC. Although lots of bugs and some annoyance, the boss mechanics were largely improved.

Then bring in the frog. I think we can just look forward to better new bosses and better revamped bosses.

Id have to argue the only thing more powerful than a mesmer underwater, is a ranger. Use a trident and keep up as many clones as you can. Each of their attack stacks a condition, along with the bounce.

I use the same underwater. I usually have on decoy, mirror images, then I keep my 3rd utility open for feedback, portal, etc.

I like them both as is. You’re crazy if you think WvW is all glass cannon

Almost all weapons are viable. I generally roll with staff, greatsword, sword&focus. I interchange staff & greatsword depending on the area. If it’s a pure range fight, I’ll use both.

Anyway, someone saw this thread and talked to me ingame. It seems my focus should always be on events…i always thought hearts were the quests of GW2, but it seems it is better to jump back and forth and do events. Guess i’ll just do so.

You aren’t forced to do anything in this game. I was just suggesting it is good experience.

When leveling in open world, I go from heart to heart and do any events that I see. When the storyline quest is at my level, I’ll do that.

condition damage doesn’t crit. The stats you have listed are fine, but I wouldn’t add in condition damage.

I would either focus on crit chance/damage or condition duration/damage. Not both

If you guys watch some guides beforehand it should help. Anything under level 10 is just figuring out the mechanics, easy.

You get the same amount as if playing for yourself. There are only two things a party really does.
a: Give you partychat
b: gives you blue dots on the minimap

c: allows you to enter a personal storyline quest or instance with the other person.

You can also feel free to jump into WvW and you’ll be upleveld to 80. You can follow a zerg and get tons of events if they are playing offensive (look for the blue commander triangle)

You don’t even have to PvP. You could just explore areas (vistas, POI, etc).

You can also do some crafting. It might be a little bit harder now because you don’t have a lot of supplies, but just keep harvesting/gathering. The hardest thing will be getting the fine crafting mats (like bloods, fangs, etc), but you could do cooking and avoid that.

I would recommend just using Badges if you WvW a lot for PTV.

However, dungeon wise, probably AC. Groups always run that

I think it’s fine to add a Hard Mode for people that want such a thing, but I just hope that you don’t include additional rewards or higher drops rates that are only available in hard mode so that other p;layers are encouraged to play it whether they enjoy it or not. Normal mode is plenty tricky for most players (assuming you go for all the optional stuff).

I was part of the 3-guild search team that luvpie mentioned. Something should be done. We spent about 2 hours total and failed because we got Sottz and couldn’t find him.

There is a difference between challenging and annoying/tedious. Sottz crosses that line…. very very often.

Not only Sottz. Most of the bounty hunt bosses are either completely unfindable, unkillable or are killed way to fast. As it stands now there is nearly no reason to do bounty hunts, cause the rewards are small and the amount of effort it requires is way too big.

The guild bounty’s my guild has done are very doable. We failed one time cause we didn’t have enough interrupts and condition removers, but for the rest no problem. They are a very fun and challenging addition to the game. With nice rewards for the effort

There is a very likely different bug with Sottz wich is the reason. There is atleast one spawnlocation that is unreachable. So when all barrels are gone and he doesn’t despawn, it is very likely that it is this situation.The one reported was inside a wall, but there are likely other spawns that are unreachable.

That makes sense, but unfortunately is still very frustrating. Probably both to us and the employee(s) working on it.

Bounties are hard now, but I think it will get better.

1) Guilds will eventually be able to establish specific people for specific bounties. Right now we have a party looking for brekkabek just to reduce time. Once a person because familiar with the path (instead of alt-tabbing) you’ll be able to just have one person asigned to brekkabek, isntead of a party.

2) Other guild missions will open up and not every guild will be working on bounties, which means you don’t have to worry (as much) about a guild sweeping in and killing the bounty you’ve been following for 30 min.

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but the ‘boss’ that stands on top of the cage you beat down and shoots lasers, I’m pretty sure he makes a chain chomp noise from Mario.

high level fractals with 3 rangers has to be a pain. Maw would go down so slowly because there’s only a 5/8 chance somebody who can damage maw will get targeted.

That’s why I like playing on my mesmer. I can summon clones to help take the aggro off the team if we’re low on crystals or keep them shattered if we have plenty.

Yes I love working with a guardian. Having aegis is amazing. Between chaos armor, chaos storm, and my own toughness in combination with all the survivability of a guardians support, it’s just fantastic. My illusions/clones already stay up a decent amount of time, and I love seeing them get aegis to help them stay up even longer.

The person I duo with most in my guild is in fact a guardian, and I believe we work very well together.

I think you still need at least 1 Mesmer to speed through the boulder puzzle. People are lazy u know and if u had 5 warriors trying to run through it it’s more likely one of them will die.

Then you severely underestimate what a mesmer brings to the table.

As a mesmer, I approve. Time warp was OP. But they went about it in a lazy fix.

I would have liked to see a duration reduction ALONG with a cooldown reduction. 210 seconds is too long imo. I would like to see maybe a 6 sec duration with 120-150 second cooldown.

So what? They’ll probably eventually, if not already, have durations such as week leader, month leader, year leader, etc. just like almost every game that has leaderboards.

If you don’t want to weapon swap just go GS warrior, then switch to rifle for range. They are great in PvE and very easy to play.

If you think you might get bored fast I would suggest a mesmer. However you’ll want lots of weapon swapping with mesmer.
