All Anet needs to do with Last Refuge, is remove the revealed restriction in regards to stealth with it. Meaning, that even if you have revealed from something else, triggering Last Refuge will still put you into stealth, as if you never had revealed.

Trait fixed, and it truly becomes a last refuge.

Would do nothing to prevent LR triggering mid C&D and revealing you when C&D lands. We’re going to need a more thorough solution.

Best one I’ve seen is so far is making it drop a Smoke Field that blocks projectiles and can be combo’d with on your own terms.

I don’t think there will be a perfect fix for this trait. They could put a self-inflicted 1/4-3/4 second blind, to prevent any damage being done, but that would likely crop up other issues.

edit: They could change it into simply removing revealed, and nothing else. I wouldn’t mind that over what we currently have, and it wouldn’t impact the CnD scenario you mentioned, aside from allowing it to work if you do have revealed, from a ranger or the wvw trap.

Hard to Catch: Either change it into a mechanic mimicking Roll for initiative, or put a little flair into it and make it so it recharges a variety of defensive utilities, such as shadow step or roll for initiative.

Hard to Catch: When you are disabled (stun, daze, float, knockdown, launch, knockback, sink, or fear), Roll for initiative, Shadow Step and Blinding powder are all refreshed. On use, the two that are not used resume whatever cooldown they are affected by.

Still waiting for host of other things thieves need, such as bug fixes, and main-hand pistol users brought up into line with other weapon sets, strength-wise.

E.g.: Changes to Assassin’s Reward. It’s still not worth a grandmaster trait slot, especially since it’s STILL bugged to only reward 5 initiative in healing for a 6 initiative cloak and dagger. That’s just one of many things that hurts what we do have. No need to go into detail about how awful Last Refuge is, or Hard to catch. No one that is familiar with the thief class traits either of those, regardless of where it will be in the trait line.

I really don’t expect a lot regarding the things being changed Dec. 10. Anet is going to nerf/change what they want changed, regardless of suggestions/comments/concerns of those playing thieves.

This is about the first time I’ve ever seen an Anet employee actually explain their reasoning, but it’s like asking which is better, Herpes or Syphilis. Does is really matter?

I was doing my dailies and noticed that if I go to mine ore with a hostile mob nearby, and drop a Shadow Refuge near that mob, it puts me in combat (even if the mob isn’t triggered by close proximity to me on approach). I’m guessing the pulsing from the stealth field does this.

Has it always been this way, or is this new?

(While it’s PvE in nature, I imagine it would translate to pvp/wvw)

Read up on some of the history behind SoR and BG/SoS and you’ll see it is well deserved. SoR had this coming.

It’s fueled even more by the fact that when SoR caused SoS to implode, many of us went to BG and that a few weeks ago, they were trying to bully SoS as many people from SoS have said so in this thread.

The whole server did all this? I don’t recall doing any of that. I log in to WvW, and try to simply have fun, and play.

You are holding an entire server accountable for the actions of a select few. I daresay, if you peeled back all the crap every server is layered in, you would be hard pressed to tell them apart.

So if you want to gloat, hate, and all the other ugly emotions, knock yourself out. Just focus it properly.

I don’t hold BG accountable for all the vitriol you and the other posters here are spewing.

Edit: The fortunes of servers rise and fall. SoR’s star is fading. Bg could be next, for all you know. I’m a firm believer in karma, if nothing else. So revel in the glory you’re feeling, but if your time comes and BG falls into decline, remember your treatment of SoR and the other servers.

Why don’t you go and teach your server people to behave before coming and preaching to us?

As for logging in and having fun, oh we are having fun have no doubt in it.

And for remembering the treatment, i hope SoR remembers the treatment they gave to SoS and BG.

You apparently have no clue what irony is, each and every post of yours reeks of it.

Let me know how to get a whole server to change their ways. If you can change how a whole server acts, you should write a book about influencing people for fun and profit.

As for irony, I’m fully aware of what it is. It would surely apply if I was one of those that treated SoS and BG poorly in the past. Since I wasn’t, it doesn’t apply to me.

You should try letting go of all that irrational hatred you have for SoR. (and anyone from a game for that matter)

I’m sure you’ll respond with some more of the same, so I won’t bother saying any more in regards to your issues with SoR, and anyone from there.

I don’t let this game or anyone in it affect my time playing it, but there are others that surely do overreact. Try to consider their side of the whole story and not hold them accountable for a small,select few.

I know it’s asking a lot, when Anet has their own agenda, and rolls out changes independent of player input, but you might make a better game in spite of it.

That being said, why aren’t we seeing any fixes to skills that are bugged/broken/not quite working right?

They are making changes to Assassin’s Reward. For kitten’s sake, could they at least fix it so when you use it with CnD, it counts as 6 init used towards healing, and not the bugged 5?

They could at least make the skills we have work properly, if they are going to nerf/buff/change them.

I swear, it seems like the devs get together, come up with ideas and write them on a piece of paper, and throw them into a bowl to pick from sometimes.

Serious question: Why does Anet ask for opinions and comments, when all they are going to do is what they proposed in the first place? I can’t recall a time where they posted proposed changes, and things were actually changed/modified, based on the player’s input.

I’m sure there were a couple small things, but I’m referring to balance changes, not QoL improvements and things of that nature that were changed, based on input.

I just look at the posted changes now, and figure those are going to be the changes to expect on the date given. All we are getting, imo, is the illusion of making a difference.

Increased the base rate of initiative gain from .75/second to 1/second.
Shadow Return on Sword. Renamed to Infiltrator’s return. Added a 1/4s cast time.
Pistol Whip. Reduced the after cast on the first half of this skill by .25 seconds.
Deadly Arts VI – Sundering Strikes. Increased the trigger chance from 50%. Remove ICD. Decrease Vulnerability duration to 6s.
Critical Strikes VI – Practiced Tolerance. Increased conversion from 5% to 7%.
Critical Strikes 15 – Opportunist. Increased trigger chance to 50%. Increase cooldown from 1s to 5s.
Critical Strikes VIII – Signet Use. Reduced initiative gain from 2 to 1.
Critical Strike X – Critical Haste. Increase trigger chance to 25%.
Shadow Arts V – Infusion of Shadow – This trait functionality has been changed to “Gain initiative when you enter stealth.” 2 init.

10/25: SoR/BG/TC (Gold League Round 2)

I would like to say that BG has some of the bests commanders and harcore players from GW2 :
- Sehoon Sword
- Ongm
- Mayoken
- Prince Jarvàn
- RawNoodles
- etc…

About newcomers I don’t know yet. All I know is that BeastGate is gathering most experimented wvw and spvp players atm.
So it’s most likely BG will really win S01 league with no doubt earlier than at week 7.

SoR will be the kingmaker of S01. Since the first match vs. BG has been a loss for SoR, it’s more than likely that SoR will see 3rd place S01. I can also state that the majority of SoR would rather see JQ win S01 than BG, so no, I’d bet that BG will not win S01.

What’s really funny, and I bet the people of Anet are laughing, is that prior to S01, the tier 1 trinity was roughly balanced, probably the most balanced of any tier. Then comes WvW Season 1, and all 3 servers are trying to stack every time slot, throwing balance to the wind.

And for what, a gold dolyak finisher, and probably a half-dozen chests with blues and greens. Someone at Anet has a devious sense of humor.

The Forgotten Pistol/Dagger Thief

If you don’t mind running a double-P/D setup, Sigil of Doom is the best way (imo) to keep poison on your target. It also frees up that utility slot that would’ve gone to poison.

Runes of the Traveler – This rune set is great. It frees up that utility slot that you are using for Signet of Shadows. This could allow you to run Skale Venoms instead. It has the added benefit of having +10% condition duration on it, so you can drop that Sigil of Agony for something else, like Sigil of Bursting.

Uncatchable – Instead of running Caltrops, use this. If you’re near your target, use body shot on top of your target (immobilize), and dodge away. If you have 50%+ condition duration, that’s at least a second of standing in the ’trops radius.

Separate from all the gear and traits, here’s a little trick I use when I roam: If you weapon swap, make sure to have 3 weapons with the following sigils:

Doom
Intelligence
Leeching

When you fall off a wall, you are put into combat. Before you do fall, swap in a weapon with one of these sigils, and fall. Swap your weapons to the ones with these sigils (before you drop out of combat), and repeat and rinse. All 3 stack, so your first combat, you have the properties of all 3 go off on your first attack. (It will also make it easier to keep poison up the first 10-20 seconds of the fight).

Edit: The caltrop utility is decent, but I find it shines when you have an enemy thief dop a shadow refuge nearby. The caltrop radius perfectly covers it, and if you can drop it before the house animation disappears, you’ll get at least a couple of ticks on the thief before the bleed and cripple is removed (if they are running condition removal).

I’ve seen the not-so-good thieves run out of it to avoid it, and if they are very low on health, it might down them.

Edit: If you run the utility poison, you can drop the Sigil of Doom for Sigil of Battle. Couple this with Hidden Assassin, and Power of Inertia, and you can easily maintain 10+ stacks of might.

These on-swap sigils are very good in certain situations, I’ve run all of them in tests, and each has it’s strengths.

Sigil Of Hydromancy isn’t bad if you have at least 50% condition duration. 4.5 seconds of chill every 10 seconds can disrupt an Ele’s rhythm, and is good vs. other professions.
Sigil of Leeching is pretty good – It does 975 damage, modded by power, and heals for 975.
Sigil of Geomancy is good for stacking bleeds faster, 3-stack bleed for 7 seconds base.
Sigil of Energy is good for extra defense if you’re lacking.

DAoC did it and does it better for 3-way WvW-type fights. Too bad the game is 10 years old. A graphical and class update would breath a lot of life into it.

JQ might be a little light in a time zone or two, but as a whole, you’re in a much better place than BG or SoR. I spent the entire last match-up in SoR BL (any time from 8am to 5 pm, and the whole week, SoR was outnumbered by JQ.

8am to 5pm. 9hours. Out of 24hours.

Did your shift included EU prime time? As you’re not specifiying, I assume you’re talking server time so it would be a yes.
And then you have serious issues with maths. “JQ outnumbering SoR during Eu prime time”, thanks a lot this will surely give me a win in our weekly joke contest

JQ is full during SEA.
JQ is surely full during NA as are BG and SoR (or are we ontnumbering you there to?)
But we can map hop as we want during EU and are facing great numbers. It’s not rare that we (SR=12-15 ppl) are the only JQ presence on a map except for some pug (usually doing a great job btw). So calling JQ’s EU TZ stacked is just a way to show that discussion isn’t possible.

I’ll strongly support SoR or BG receiving some SEA reinforcement. EU reinforcements for these two servers is just encouraging PvDooring which you pretend to fight…

The time I was on, from what I was told in map chat, was during some Oceanic, mostly Sea, and a sprinkling of EU thrown in. I’m unable to play for 9 hours straight, so I cannot comment on what goes on during the entire time.

You might try being less snarky with your weekly joke comments, if you want to continue having a serious discussion. You can put a point across without being a kitten.

Small Venom Trait Changes

They need to remove venom sharing, or modify it, so venoms can be properly balanced. Perhaps a base poison type that gets shared via venom sharing, and traits to upgrade what those venoms do, instead of increasing duration and what not, that won’t get shared.

Perhaps adjust Venom Sharing so that for every person under the 5 that would share those venoms, it reduces the cool down by say, 2-3 seconds per person missing. It would be beneficial to those that solo and run in a group. With Quick Venoms, that would put venom CDs at ~26 seconds if alone.

And I know that Iron isn’t much into actual numbers but even you must realise that JQ has the worst EU coverage.
And the best SEA (at least I think so).
Last time I checked our OCX was not dominant…
So as much as I understand your desire to make JQ a monster under the bed, I think that facts might be deceiving.

The best thing is that all of this can be easily verified IG.

Well, on a separate note, it’s a good thing for BG that SoR isn’t teaming up with TC to put TC at second place this week, and almost ensuring that SoR places at the minimum of 2nd place.

I run full Dire armor (cond/tough/vit) and ascended weapons/trainkets, and I have never, ever received a backstab/cloak and dagger over 4.5K, or wildstrike for over 3K.

Without any points in SA, that puts me at around 2700 armor. With SA, I’m at 3050ish. Do you have any points in your toughness trait line? 2600-2700 armor is still pretty squishy imo, and for a light armor class, aren’t you as an Ele at around 2500 armor before 30 points in your toughness trait line? If you have no points in toughness, then yeah, those numbers are doable.

Damage will still be fairly high even at 2800 armor.

edit: I do agree that a D/P build is generally cheese, and needs to be brought into line.

As for JQ, prior to the late in the week double team vs. them, it was mostly posts about good fights, and other basically non-confrontational posts. Now, it’s filled with a lot more vitriol.

People need to chill out.

The only 3rd-ring server that would have a chance at playing a pivotal role would be TC. The other servers will get destroyed.

You never know. I’m betting a lot of pve achievers will be out in force, and while not particularly dangerous, they can still mess things up.

Seriously, Anet customer service/tech support sucks.

Obviously I don’t see them posting at everyones’ whim, but it doesn’t stop them from attempting to help…. If you haven’t noticed, Ashley Segovia has been posting a bit on the Tech forum attempting to publicly help the players running into issues. At least she is trying in some way, shape, or form rather than not posting at all, so be happy they have someone monitoring the forums at least.

No matter the game, there will always be disgruntled players.

I think anyone that reads this forum regularly knows by now that Sanduskel doesn’t need or use permastealth.

I enjoy playing my thief, so I don’t get the fuss. Then again, I don’t rely on perma stealth, so the nerfs don’t affect me.

Maybe there’s a 10s ICD between instances of stealth for Shadow’s Embrace. So still removes every 3 secs, but once you leave stealth the 10s ICD begins. I’m at work. Can anyone test that?

I did test it in orr on poison field spamming mobs, it did remove poison every time i used cnd on it.

There’s something not quite right somewhere. I did a little testing on trolls in the Gorge, and there were several times I couldn’t remove the chill going into stealth. There may be more to this than we know. It’s a shame Devs can’t tell us it’s a bug, intended, and/or what the mechanic is.

On a separate note, Blinding powder finally stacks blindness with Cloaked in Shadow, for a total of 14 seconds of blindness. I don’t ever recall seeing it last that long before.

I just tested the interval portion. It does indeed take at least 10 seconds to remove a second condition while in stealth.

I used Shadow Refuge, and it honestly looked like the interval timing started at 3 seconds AFTER I entered stealth. I was in stealth for ~14seconds, and the second condition didn’t even get cleansed, it fell off due to duration ending.

Also notice that nothing changed, from the time that a Dev posted in the general forum about asking for suggestions. Why bother asking for suggestions if you are going to do what you want anyways?

I think Anet’s thought on this is that thieves aren’t hampered by CDs like other professions, so a thief can remove 3 conditions in the time that Guardian can remove 1, due to initiative.

I think the interval portion refers to removing conditions after the initial removal, while staying in stealth. So instead of removing 2 conditions if you sat in stealth long enough, you only get the one removal.

This is an attempt to nerf D/P thieves, but it’s hurting other specs as well.

Shadow Refuge: This skill now functions with the Hide in Shadows trait.
Shadow Pursuit: This skill now functions with the Hide in Shadows trait.
Blinding Powder: Stealth duration has been decreased from 5 seconds to 4 seconds when traited with Hide in Shadows. The skill remains with a base of 3 seconds. This skill is now a blast finisher.
Merciful Ambush: This skill now functions with the Hide in Shadows trait for the recipient of stealth.
Fixed an issue where some skills would remove the visual effect of stealth from the player.
Destroy Shadow Trap: This skill now has a 1.5-second cast time. It plays an effect on the thief and on the trap location when it is being cast. Added 5 seconds of regeneration.
Hide in Shadows: This skill now only increases Blinding Powder stealth by 1 second so it is consistent with the trait’s functionality.
Venomous Aura: Increased the venom share radius to 360.
Larcenous Strike: This skill now steals only 1 boon.
Body Shot: This skill now applies 1 second of immobilize. Reduced the number of vulnerability stacks from 10 to 5. Increased the initiative cost from 3 to 4.
Lotus Poison: The recharge is now set on each individual target that this trait triggers on. Reduced the recharge to 15 seconds.
Shadow Strike: This ability now has a distance skill fact that represents the distance retreated.
Withdraw and Roll for Initiative: These skills now properly remove immobilize upon execution.
Basilisk Venom: Petrify is now removed on stun break.

P/D users running caltrops will benefit as well. If you have a full init bar, you can force them to sit in the caltrops for 3-4 seconds on a full bar (depending on traits of course).

Edit: Even if you don’t have caltrops, but have Uncatchable, you can dodge away and apply immobilize while they’re in it briefly.

Uncatchable can put some nice cripple duration on them if they stay in it long enough (if you hae decent +condition duration). I had a build with 75% condition duration, and every pulse of caltrops was 7 seconds of cripple. 2-3 seconds of that, and it’s pretty decent, making them blow a removal if they have no other way of removing cripple.

They also stated that they are trying to make the thief better, support-wise. Maybe there’s another condi removal they’re adding, or modifying.

I suspect that it’s a nerf, plain and simple, though. It won’t be too bad a nerf, if every time you enter stealth, one is removed, (which I find very possible) but not being able to cleanse that second condi will suck, especially with how easily condis are being applied nowadays.

If the 10 second CD on SE is real, it may be there is change to another trait that perhaps, lowers this CD. They did say they were re-working some traits and abilities.

It also may be a mistake. It is Anet, after all.

Venomous Aura – increased from 240 to 360 range.
Pistol on mainhand now immobilize on #2 skill, costs 4 initiative.
Blinding Powder now has a blast finisher.

So being lazy and/or disrespectful by posting something we have to go out of our way to understand is just fine? It’s not a lot to ask to use paragraphs once in a while. It’s hardly belittling, as you put it.

Just about every post from you is you sitting on your high horse “belittling” other thieves, especially those that perma-stealth.

On a serious note though, thieves will now be able to perma-stunlock as of tomorrow. Their no. 4 offhand pistol will stun, and stun will stack in duration. Yes, that’s right boys and girls, stuns will no longer overwrite eachother, they will stack in duration.

If I may ask, what is your source? I’ve been trying to find out what to expect in tomorrow’s patch notes, with no success.
