Apparently Elona and Sorrow’s Furnace is having the same issues. I am betting anyone blue this match up is suffering from this as well.

While not blue this week, I’ll submit a bug report in game for whomever is blue this week. I highly encourage everyone, regardless of color to do the same thing. The more bug reports they get, the better the chance they’ll get off their kitten and fix it.

It might be a small thing in the grander scheme, but if a tower doesn’t upgrade, it’s a ripe target, and will get taken over and over again, skewing the balance of things.

After sorting through the whining and QQing by the various forum warriors, whomever is blue this week will likely experience what SoR did all last week with Yaks NOT going to SMC/QL and Durios.

There’s a bug preventing them from traveling there more than once after the supply camp flipping (Anet knows about it, but has done nothing at all). SoR would’ve still lost last week despite this, but I think the point spread would’ve been a little closer had things not been bugged.

As of this writing, I don’t know if the bug has been fixed.

If something is broken in the living story arcs, it gets hotfixed quickly. Sadly, even though this issue is affecting match ups, we don’t even get an acknowledgement they know about it.

This sort of thing is why I will never, ever spend a dime on their gem shop. There is a host of other issues plaguing this game, but they feel the need to release new stuff without fixing the old stuff.

I sorely wish TESO or Camelot Unchained was close to coming out. At least GW2 doesn’t have a sub.

Torment is garbage as implemented. Without a reliable way to apply it regularly, it neither does appreciable damage or push your target to stop moving.

Since patch day, I’ve had 3-5 stacks on me at various times, and I never noticed it.

What they should do, is some sort of conversion for condition users that translates vulnerability (useless to a condition user) into a way to generate stacks of torment (e.g. every time a bleed is applied while vulnerability is up, one stack of torment is applied, duration to be determined by how strong this would be, perhaps a % of the bleed’s duration, perhaps 50%) This would give thieves a reason to use #2.

In addition, Skale Venom should be reverted to weakness/vulnerability with that change. Of course, it would have to be tweaked so it’s not overpowered, or abused, as well as the conversion process.

Strangely enough, I’ve been killing D/P thieves quite a bit with my P/D build. I’m not even using torment. I was P/D before this disaster of a patch. I’m not that good of a thief, so they must have been bad.

The game won’t die like a subscription-based game would. Free to play is free to play. Most will adapt or play the next fotm profession/build. Right now, there isn’t really a competitor to draw off those who enjoy WvW. When TESO debuts, you’ll probably see a migration of sorts, at least short term.

The market really needs an new, dynamic MMO, to prod companies like Anet to work to keep players.

Skale Venom is on a 30 second CD untraited. It will inflict 3 stacks of torment at 5 seconds of duration, modified by condition duration. At most, it will have 10 seconds of duration. Condition thieves typically have around 135 damage/tic, so you’ll see 5 to 10 seconds of ~550-600 damage. That’s similar to burn damage.

I’d be more worried about necromancers and them getting both torment and burn damage. Just those two conditions are good for ~1K/second, not counting bleeds, poisons and whatever else they may spec for.

I’ll probably try it out as a thief, but I think I’ll stick with caltrops instead, unless torment proves to be worthwhile.

We’ve had no official word on how torment will be applied yet. The leaked notes proved to be incomplete/inaccurate/wrong, so until the patch drops, we won’t know for sure.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it was applied via Skale Venom, however. That way, they can be pretty much assured that the only ones using it are condition users, and only a specific subset really.

I run a condition build 90% of the time in WvW, and I’d rather run caltrops over skale venom. There’s something rather satisfying watching people who don’t pay attention, and try to rez someone inside a caltrop ring, and end up with 15-20 stacks of bleeds and a snare, and run off to die next to their ally.

I can see it being useful for a p/d thief. It’s 2 more damage conditions added to a set that’s mostly just bleeds. It could work with a venom share build as well.

I run 15 in deadly arts, and Sigil of Doom on both weapon sets. Doing so insures I can drop poison and weakness every 10 seconds, on a 10 second duration(+100% poison duration) (and I don’t have to dedicate a utility slot to get it), plus there’s poison on steal wrapped into that.

That isn’t quite what I said Fade. You comment here has much more magnitude than what I actually said. I said there wasn’t much different, no where did I say we were exactly the same the way he implied or without difference as you implied by phrasing it with ‘no difference’.

What I said both allows for and acknowledges difference, whereas what both you and he responded with does not. This is quite a large difference in meaning. Normally I wouldn’t point things like this out, but since it was used by him to fabricate disrespect and drama out of thin air when absolutely none was intended, I feel like I have no choice.

problem with trickery is all the builds that use steal/stun are power/crit builds. nobody with condition dmg as a thief cares too awfully much about a 1 sec stun.

Not many condition users go 30 in trickery, either. The more popular builds are a 0/0/30/20/20, or some variation.

Edit: I wasn’t sure if the leaked notes were real, but I figured if they were not, the actual notes would likely be lackluster, and not make much of a difference.

We still don’t know how Torment will be applied yet, either.

I’ve dropped Shadow refuge on people in an attempt to allow them to escape, but they don’t stop long enough for it to stick. I tell people stay in the stealth ring until the house disappears, but no one pays attention :/

It wouldn’t surprise me if these patch notes were real. Anet is so out of touch, it isn’t funny.

Most any company would quickly denounce they’re validity if they are fake.

Not if they’re getting free feedback to some things they are possibly exploring.

You would think they would establish a PTR server, like most other MMOs. Every time they introduce a patch, something somewhere gets broken, and sometimes takes a long time to get fixed, such as auto-attack stopping after a dodge.

if they are anything near the real ones, I liked it since I still play D/D, we got a buff on our slow!

But Ill prob have to swap my Sbow for dual pistols …. Unload+interrupt > Sbow 5 since it will be the only usefull skill on Sbow.

for the skill to be at all worth taking, it would either need to be on a reasonable cd, or apply more than 1 stack of torment per hit, or have the torment last a long time. There isnt enough info to determine that. Assuming the end result is respectable enough to warrant a skill slot; you can imagine a condi thief dropping caltrops and this, then spamming death blossom (with its new low initiative). creating a dilema for the opponent with movement (stay and take ticks from caltrops, or get out and take more dmg from torment), and when they do get out of the caltrops, using scorpion wire (on its new lower cd) to pull em back in.

I’m using the alleged leaked patch notes as a basis. Skale Venom wasn’t exactly all that great prior, and adding torment to it doesn’t make it all that appealing, given the supposed damage and duration if offers. Best case duration is 10 seconds, with 3 stacks.

Of course, I’m looking at it from a solo perspective. Venom sharing would make it shine if you had 2-3 other people applying it from your shared venoms.

I agree, but I lost hope in Anet a long time ago. While I enjoy the WvW portion of the game, the rest of it leaves me entirely bored. WvW isn’t even all that great. DAoC still does it better after all these years.

Weakness is changing soon, and will make more of a difference than it does. It also may be overkill, but I’ve already seen some decent results with it vs. a great many profession/builds, especially D/P thieves using that setup. The poison damage is worth 2 stacks of bleeds, and having poison on them more limits any passive healing they might have, like regen.

It just fits my playstyle I suppose :P

I use a 15/0/30/15/10 build. The 15 in deadly arts applies a weakness when poisoning someone for 3 seconds. The more conditions you can land on your enemy, the less chance your bleeds get removed on a cleanse.

I also run 75% condition duration, so that 3 second weakness is actually 5, and my poison duration is at 100%. I use sigils of doom on my weapons, so when I swap, I poison my enemy for 10 seconds, lowering the need for a shortbow to inflict poison (although it doesn’t remove the need entirely)

so the best case scenario is 561 × 5 which is 2800 damage total (every 45 seconds). WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPIE thats literally less than a dagger auto attack crit that has a 1/4 second cd. Were do I sign up for this awesome ability?

Well, the math I used based it on right around 1600-1700 condition damage (for 125 damage per bleed, upon which the damage is based on, 75% or 150%), so the actual torment damage can be more or less, depending on how much condition damage you stack.

You also went by the base duration, 5 seconds. If you stack enough condition duration, you can get more damage via extended duration. My P/D build runs 75% condition damage and 100% poison duration. I’m not sure which torment would use. It’s delivered by a venom, so it could go either way.

The damage, if your condition damage is ~125 per bleed, is essentially the same damage as burning if they move. What kind of sucks, if true, is necros got burning AND this for conditions.

It might be worthwhile to start using Melandru runes and Lemongrass soup if there’s an explosion of condition users after this patch.

A closer look at Torment for Thieves

Given the information we have (and taking into account the leaked notes, which may be false), this is what we can expect for torment in a real world environment. This is all hypothetical.

Currently, Skale Venom offers a base 5 seconds of weakness and vulnerability. They are supposed to swap weakness out for torment. That is 3 applications of a 5 second torment base, on a 45 second timer (36 traited).

- It stacks in intensity.
- Damage is 75% of a bleed if stationary, 150% if moving.

To increase duration, you need 20% condition duration to increase it 1 second. At best, you can hit 100% condition duration, for 10 seconds of torment. That leaves at best, 26 seconds of no torment on your target.

If you do 125 damage per bleed, your torment will do 187 damage if your target is moving, 93 if stationary. For 3 stacks, you’ll see 561 per second for 3 stacks, 279 if your target doesn’t move. If they’re moving that’s pretty close to what burning damage does by the way.

If my math is off please correct me :P

Not a build I’d run, but it would work. (add 250 condition damage for sigil of corruption) I didn’t flesh it out, as there’s no point, but more to show that any class can attain high levels of toughness.

If the OP can’t understand that 2.5K armor is glass cannon territory, then it’s a waste of time trying to educate him. I don’t run anything less than ~2800 armor on ANY build I run, whether it’s direct damage or condition. I may not put out the numbers glass cannons do, but I won’t get dropped like a bad habit, like the OP.

And again to try to drive home the point to the OP: Toughness doesn’t scale even remotely as well as power does. This means point for point, power will give more damage than toughness will gain damage reduction.

Not gonna bother further trying to educate either a troll, or someone who can’t or won’t listen to others.

I’m not taking the game seriously but It really ruined the Fun in my free time when you 2 servers ( SoR, JQ ) helped each other in EB yesterday.

i’ve been in BG since Day 1 but quited for 5 – 6 months and just return though. I never seen this obvious double team before.

anyway good game, i hope Jq will drop to the lower tier. So we may have a nicer match up next week.

I was on last night in Aldon’s Ledge trebbing when JQ took Lowlands Keep and SoR stopped reinforcements at spawn. There wasn’t any double teaming involved. We wanted Lowlands cracked, and that was the easiest way to get it done, after being pushed out numerous times by BG.

We tried pushing Jerrifer’s Slough after taking Lowlands, but JQ was dug in too deeply, and we couldn’t make any headway.

Anywhere else in the map, I can’t speak for.

I have seen this many times in wvw.

A thief find a target… some have been right next to me and 2 – 3 other people.
we see a poff of smoke. and one of us is down. and the thief ran, because we were quickly to drop aoe and swing around.

the point is still solid. the thief took a target in a small group. 4 – 5 people.
and still managed to down a player in 2 seconds and get away.
he didnt kill the player, that time. but the thief did pick us off.. 1 by 1 over time.

ONE thief…

So yes, its very much possible for a “brave” thief to pick off people even in middle of groups. granted he was a good one.

but should 1 good player be able to kill 4 -5 others… and get away with it…
and we cant do anything about it ????

The thieves is favored in every possible way, and i dont care what you belive or not.

Thieves is a stealth class… with insanely op burst dmg. 18 k crits on plate ??
And there is no way or skills on any proffession to counter their stealths…

not one skill can counter it..
It doesnt even matter if you put on dots on thieves… they dont care.. just stealth and run, the dots wont reveal you anyways… you dont even leave a blood trail…

thieves are op… and need to be fixed.

And I’ve seen D/D Elementalists do the exact same thing. I’ve also seen some Mesmers do it, but not as often. Say Anet listened to you, and nerfed thieves. What class is next on your list that you can’t beat, and you want nerfs?

Every single profession and build has a counter. I roll a direct damage build, and certain class/builds aren’t bad to kill, but I get eaten alive by others. Same goes for a condition build. Anything with easy access to a conditioner remover hard counters it. There are very few profession/build combos that don’t have a hard counter.

I think you want that mystical build that can kill anything, and not have to work to win. A good thief may be impossible to beat, but the same can be said of any profession in the hands of a good player.

If you won’t take the time to improve your own skills, and maybe learn a few basics of each profession, you won’t win more than lose.

Edit: I remember facing a warrior (I don’t recall his build, but I want to say he was a hammer/? build) with 3.1K armor. I got him to half helath or so, and was taking hits in return. He knocked me down, did some damage, and I got back up, and he either swapped weapons, or had another knockdown on tap and knocked me back down. I didn’t recover in time and he ended up downing me.

Whatever he did was a clever use of his mechanics, and I couldn’t stay standing long enough to recover. (I didn’t and don’t know enough about warriors to know what to look for to counter. In this case, I’ve been too lazy to learn what happened and learn how to counter it)

@ ELDAIN STENLUND …… tell u what…if u wanna have only 1 weapon set then ill say ur right. but until then u have just as much skills as us to use if not more. we only have one weapon set ….or rather one set of skills to use bc both sets use the same cooldown aka intitiative system. so when we “spam” a skill 2 or 3 or even 4 x in a row….sometimes 5 if we have init regen or gain up, then we are out of initiative and out of skills. so we spam something 5 x then it takes 15-16 secs to repeat that same exact spam set. for a warrior…. u can use skill 1 2 3 4 5 then swap then 1 2 3 kitten in the same time you have 10 skills spammed vs our 5 before you ahve to wait to use mroe….but the best thing about warrior is soon as the next 8 secs are up you can do it all over again! so where we wait 15 or 16 secs for a refill u just swap after 8 and all ur attacks are up again. not to mention your 20% cooldowns and -1 sec weaponswap option plus another -1 on sigil if u choose. so yeah thieves come up way short when it comes to spamming skills ya?

Iam not sure… but i think i have to be alive to have a chanse to use my skills ??
And when i played more tanky.. i got 3 hitted… 2 – 3 seconds fight.. max…

its realy true.. and made me seriosuly kitten ed off. (why iam here).
I dropped my dps abit to get more tanky.. 24 k hp.. using axe + mace /+ hammer.
i also had like 2.8 k armor…
I got 3 hitted still… yep… realy balanced game.

they could just rename the warrior class to: “Armored Critter”.

i read on some tread.. a thief had like 3.1 k armor…
seriously… wtf is wrong with A-net and the designers.

Leather armor are harder than plate ??? since when ??

iam starting to wonder they the hell there are other classes in this game than thief and mesmer..

Its so clear these 2 classes are the favourite of A-net.

there are these classes in the game also… but they are busy using op classes to gank.

Necromansers,
Rangers,
Warriors,
Guardians,
Elementalist.

If there’s a thief with 3.1K armor, he gave up a lot of damage to attain that. I’ve run it before, and it only really works with a condition build. You won’t get blown up like you seem to think.

You obviously don’t know anything about other professions. Elementalists get a ton of OP threads complaining about how mobile and defensive they can be while putting out ok damage, and bunker rangers are a pain in the kitten to beat.

There are plenty of threads in the various profession forums about how to beat said class. There are more than normal in the thief forums as to how to counter them. Yeah, it sounds like this is a L2P post, but seriously, if you don’t know what to expect, you will be at a disadvantage.

Bear in mind, that toughness/armor does not scale nearly as well as power/damage does. I’ve run 3100 armor on my P/D thief, and I’ve seen very large hits from various classes despite this.

I’ve said time and again that if you want to invest in defense, you should get more of a return on toughness than we currently do. It wouldn’t have to be as much as a return that power gets, but 3K+ armor shouldn’t be letting as much damage through as it currently does.
