I could care less about misspellings, or the improper use of words to convey what he’s trying to say. There are a ton of people who don’t speak English as their primary language, yet the vast majority of them can post something, and have it instantly understood.

As to you Burnfall, you hate the thief class with a passion, and any time you post, it’s incredibly biased. You complain about how tough thieves are, where a ton of people don’t seem to have your issues.
Thieves have even made long instructional posts on how to defeat the profession. Have you even bothered to read any of them? I seriously doubt you have, as that takes an investment of time that most gamers these days don’t want to do. (I had issues with a variety of classes, and I rolled them to learn how to defeat them – I don’t always, but at least I know what to expect)
My post will likely get removed by a moderator, but I have no issues with that. Call me a grammar kitten, or something else, but all I and most people want, is the courtesy of a legible post.
Just make Infusion of Shadow not work if you’re already in stealth. The first heartseeker would work fine, but any after entering stealth you would pay the full initiative cost without affecting other specs.

Traits are on a separate CD from on-crit sigils, and individual traits have their own CDs independent of any other trait.
Depends on how you build. My bleeds tick for 150-160, with 3K armor and 20K+ health in Wvw. I don’t really miss not having power.
i put as an example 100 tick but care to explain how you get 2350 condition dmg? (160 bleed tick)
i can only have it if i’ll get full dire set will give about 1400+250 with soc+186 crystal+70 cake+100 with sob+165 migh (with 5 stacks)+118 with undead runes =2289 which gives 156 bleed tick
but with no soc and sob and might you’ll have 1656 which gives 125 tick and still 300 more direct dmg is better than 60 … so some ppl will also take rabid as crit hits does 150% more base dmg
so even with 3k armor if warrior catch you with stunlock it doesnt really matter if you had 2600 armor
but again depends on player game play as dire gives you more room for mistakes and less dmg
I’ve changed my build some since I posted, but this is the build in question:
On the last tab, labeled manual, you can input stats not able to be listed elsewhere. They are also unable to be saved in templates, so you’d have to input the following:
+250 Condition damage (from Sigil of Corruption, 25 stacks)
+250 Vitality (From maxed out WvW Guard defense ability)
Under the buff tab you’ll have to input 4 under stacks of might.
I conservatively counted 4 stacks of might in the template, hence the 150-160 estimate. I did not count any orb of power bonuses from WvW. That comes out to 2234 condition damage, which is 154 damage per stack.
This also comes with 75% bleed duration, 3014 Armor, and 20,995 health (before WvW bonuses from PPT.
Edit: I’m thinking about swapping out the runes for traveler’s, for a second stun break. I’d lose some condition damage and 20% duration though, so I’m not sure yet.

I’ve had the same issue. Even after running the repair, reinstalling the game, and checking every piece of hardware, I keep getting this error. It’s not on my end.
Bear in mind Shadow’s Embrace will remove Torment if traited for it upon entering stealth, which HiS does.

Just make it so Infusion of Shadow only works if you were un-stealthed to begin with, and doesn’t work if you are currently in stealth.
Bear in mind they said that the weapon ascended mats will only be a portion of what’s needed for armor. I bet that they will add another time-gated material to thwart anyone stockpiling ascended mats in preparation.
You’re better served by stockpiling mats that will assist you in getting 500 in whatever armor craft you use, such as:
- T6 mats such as gossamer scraps, orichalcum ore (this will possibly spike again in price) and hardened leather sections.
- Ectos
- T6 fine materials such as powerful bloods etc.
One can speculate that they will reuse the current recipe setup that weapons use, i.e. the lower level tiers of mats specific to your craft, so you might want to grab some stacks of those while they are dirt cheap.
Ancient wood barely broke 1s before the patch, and now it’s 8-9s. I’m betting that gossamer will be the one that really jumps in price, since the T6 leather and metal are far more abundant, and gossamer has a lower drop rate by far.
All speculation atm, but with lower tier mats going on the cheap, now is the time to stockpile, while there is a ton of time to do so.

The point I’m making, is that Anet is setting precedent by introducing a skill to counter a core mechanic of thieves. Down the road, they will probably add it to another class, and then another and another. Before you know it, stealth as a skill will be nigh useless.
Along the way, Anet will probably not offer any sort of compensation to other skills, health etc. At the end of the day, you will have the thief class, which was built around utilizing stealth, now easily countered by everyone.
You’ll force people who want to play a thief, to have to play only a certain way, because stealth will not be able to be relied upon. We have decent variety in builds atm, but how long will that last if stealth is neutered? Do you really think Anet will balance things out along the way?
The bottom line is that if stealth is such a problem, then Anet shouldn’t take the lazy road, and simply drop abilities that cause reveal. They should put on their big boy pants and properly balance things and not in a way that is one-sided.
Implementing Sic’ Em as stated, in an attempt to address a certain build(s) could punish other builds that aren’t in need of that sort of balance. It’s like a doctor treating a patient for liver cancer, that could save the patient by just removing the cancerous part of the liver, but opts to just remove the liver entirely, just to be sure, and maybe later, going back with a donor liver (with the patient having to use a dialysis machine until then).
I play a P/D spec, in no way a perma stealth thief. I rely on stealth for my main attack, healing and condi removal.
That being said, people like Sanduskel laugh and encourage changes to the thief class that hurt other playstyles, because he doesn’t use stealth as much, so isn’t impacted.
Funny enough though, if some skill/ability etc. he relied upon was getting nerfed, he’d be in the front row making his opinion known about how it shouldn’t happen. Since the upcoming changes don’t affect him, he doesn’t care and denigrates other thieves.
That’s pretty disrespectful of other players, and their chosen playstyle. I dislike fighting perma-stealth thieves as much as anyone else. It’s a pain in the kitten most of the time. However, I don’t get on my high horse, and look down my nose at them, because I think I am superior, or that my chosen playstyle is the only “proper” way.
Instead of acting thus, how about suggesting alternatives that people who play differently than you can agree upon, instead of acting like your kitten doesn’t stink?
It might prove to be semi-ok for anyone running caltrops. Immobilize them in the caltrops, until you run out of init, or they cleanse the root.
Instead of a rifle, I’d rather have a sawed off shotgun. Thieves are considered a close range profession, and it would fit pretty well.
Bleeds will not be affected by the upcoming changes to how conditions stack. Only those conditions that stack in duration, not actual stacks will be affected, such as blind and poison.
I found leveling as D/D, using death blossom on bunches of mobs worked pretty well. Use caltrops when you get access and you can quickly kill multiple enemies.

if youre a thief dueling or roaming, youre 30 in SA much like if youre a ranger dueling or roaming youre 30 in WS. the evades from flanking strike (which is simply abused to get the boon steal option by flanking striking the air anyway) and bow are what i was referring to by the way. teleportation (shadow step from sword , shadowstep utility , shadow trap, you could do it with bow but there’s no point really in a fight its mostly used for mobility outside of combat as the init cost doesnt justify anything in combat – kitten). are you kittening dumb or are you just really that naive of your own thief’s capabilities?

This buff to sic em is not going to change anything, i have never ever seen a thief get the full 4 s of revealed, culling issues and all… (or whatever its called). A good thief should never lose to a ranger in a 1v1 (unless he’s bunkering). But no build should ever be able to win against a bunker in a 1v1 anyways… And regarding the ‘nerf’ to larcenous strike: evade, decent to good damage and boon STEALING is a bit OP for a two skill combination. Im surprised they kept it at 1 boon… And i also don’t see why only a few classes should have boon removal….
First off, 4 second reveal is in Spvp, wvw/pve have 3 second reveal, secondly, there is NO way at all in game to reduce revealed, so if you played spvp you sure as hell did see a thief get 4 second reveal, you simply cant count well is all. Third, there is no such thing as culling any longer, it was removed, read patch notes. FS/LS does not do decent to good damage more like bad/mediocre damage, is one of the shortest evades in game and it was made to steal two boons because it wasnt useful when it removed one. Many classes (including yours mr ranger) can reapply boons as fast as they are stripped, and thats with skills like null field, corrupt boon (if 2 boons removed is OP how is ALL of them removed ok?), so changed to 1 boon removed means it is no longer a counter to boon builds, since they can reapply faster than you can remove them, hence it will be useless again
and you have stealth , ability to take boons, ability to evade alot with the correct weapon set (same with rangers – we are also forced to a weapon set except yours does alot more dmg) , ability to burst insane amounts of damage , ability to have 2-3 stun breaks on utility and teleport to different areas in conjunction with a weapon set and a utility. classes have different uses for different things. if rangers had full dmg on their weapons, the crying would be endless and quite frankly , we should be given that option to not take a pet and get the full dmg but anet won’t give it to us.
most of the ranger’s issues against the thief isn’t the ranger himself, it’s the pet ai and mechanics in general. it takes a pet 2 seconds to register someone coming out of stealth before he attacks that person that and it’s a free cnd as the pet can’t dodge not the mention the steal we give you , if running dagger at all is insanely overpowered as HS doesn’t require a huge amount of init vs the heal youre getting AND condition removal out of it. jus sayin, any thief bragging about killing a ranger 1on1 needs to realize how much they actually have it made against us. that’s why we’re getting stealth counter, and like many have said, it’s really not that significant , you just have to pay attention a little more to the skills we use, that’s all.
Yeah, because every thief runs 30/30/30/30/30, can use any utility at will and can use every weapon set at the same time.
I’d like to see them put an endurance regain on body shot, much like what dagger #1, the second in the auto-attack chain has.
Keep the 1 second root as suggested, but add a +20 endurance gain and add some base damage.
Anet really needs to decide if main hand pistol wants to be condition based or direct damage based, or at the very least, make it so each attack has a place for both.

Sick ‘Em will now apply ‘Revealed” to enemies they target. We want to introduce some counter play to Stealth (players have asked for that for a while), so we thought a pet “catching your scent” might be a cool way to insinuate some anti-stealth into the game.Instead of skills that apply revealed, how about skills that nullify the invisibility aspect of stealth for the same duration?
This way, thieves heavy into SA still have access to all their stealth based traits and abilities(Might on stealth, health regen, condition dropping, stealth attacks, etc), but players can still see them, and thieves still follow all the rules of stealth (can’t cap a point, landing an attack triggers revealed, etc).
This allows for an effective counter for stealth without completely nullifying 30 points in SA. Countering a class mechanic is (arguably) fine, countering 30 trait points is not.
Finally, someone gets what a lot of thieves are up in arms about.
Guaranteed, the anti-stealth buff to rangers is just the beginning. Anet will eventually add the ability to other professions, eventually making stealth not worth bothering with, with no sort of balancing to compensate.
If you want Anet’s attention, vote with your wallet and don’t spend real money in the gem shop. If enough people do so, they’ll have to look at the reasons why.

This thread has essentially become a forum for suggestions on how to nerf thieves into the ground.
Guaranteed, Anet will make a knee-jerk nerf to thieves, and throw a non-useful “buff” to skills/traits/abilities no one uses. If stealth is such a problem, then properly buff thieves to compensate.
A lot of thieves would love to have swashbuckler-themed, non-stealth setups, but that really isn’t possible overall, with a couple exceptions.
P/P comes to mind as a totally worthless setup. Can’t access stealth (aside from utilities or healing), and can’t decide what it’s trying to accomplish, conditions or damage.
I’d love to play a gunslinger, or a fencer-type, but it just doesn’t work.
I seriously bet that revealed will last the duration of Sic’ Em, 10 seconds. Wait and see.
One of the most popular and and strong mesmers build are the Shatter builds, it can generate an insane amount of illusion and guess what they DO NOT need to stay alive for long cause the mesmer will blow them up asap to burst, interrupt, get invult, place conditions and thats why even inside an aoe they still work perfectly, so aoe cant negate a trait line.
Even on phantasm builds that focus on letting illusions up u can buff their HP to a very good amount, this can make them viable to small grp fights and AWESOME in 1v2 or 3. They can divide the foe attention wich usually leads them to death
Reveal on the other hand makes impossible for thief to get any thing out of a stealth trait line

Tell ya what, how about thieves get a utility that gimps any other classes’ damage, utility or defense? Not everyone plays S/D or D/P. I play P/D and no stealth means no sneak attack (or any defenses gotten from the shadow arts line).
Giving an ability that causes reveal entirely negates a whole trait line for those that spec shadow arts.
Pistols have kitten for a #2 slot, and their idea of a boost for it for team play will be garbage.

So, rangers get a way to entirely negate a whole trait line. This in itself wouldn’t be horrible, if thieves had decent alternatives.
Traps – garbage, with maybe the exception of Shadow Trap. CD is far too long on all traps, making them nearly useless.
Venoms – Unless heavily traited, borderline crap. CDs on use are again, too high. Other classes can land debuffs rapidly, over and over again. Traits that buff venoms are lackluster overall.
Weapon Sets:
P/P is a set that doesn’t know what it’s supposed to do, and has no innate access to stealth. Is it a condition set? Is it a direct damage set? It has elements of both, and doesn’t do either well.
P/D – relies heavily upon stealth to do any sort of damage. Most that use this set spec heavily into shadow arts, which will be made useless by Sic’ Em. Unless you can come up with something viable for main-hand pistol (which I find unlikely, given Anet’s track record regarding thieves), this will possibly becomes another less-used set.
Then there are a ton of abilities/utilites/traits that either don’t work right, are buggy, or are detrimental to a thief.
Some examples:
Last Refuge – This one trait is more detrimental to a thief than a ranger getting a reveal ability on Sic’ Em. Frankly, I’d rather just lose the 5 point trait entirely, than be forced to have it.
Improvisation – No one runs this. At all. Total crap shoot using it.
Back Fighting – Worthless, no one would use this over another trait.
Corrosive traps – Never used, no one uses traps enough to warrant it, as traps are a waste of a utility.
Venomous Aura – Would be a good grandmaster trait, if venoms were more useful.
Power Shots – 5% damage increase to shortbows and harpoons? Really?
Hard to catch – Decent, although the teleport more often than not puts you in a worse location, or quite often, stuck in geometry if near a wall or something.
Master Trapper – Again, not used because traps aren’t worth using.
Then there is Scorpion Wire. at least 70% of the time, all it does is cause an interrupt (if we’re lucky) and doesn’t pull the target more than a foot or so, due to poor programming.
The bottom line is, until Anet can fix the broken things a thief has, and make nearly 50% of a thief’s abilities worth using (except in very niche circumstances), we’re pigeon-holed into HAVING to rely on stealth, with the exception of S/D, and even that is getting a nerf.
How about you tell US what you expect the thief to do, instead of us trying to make things work?

Any side with an outnumbered buff should have a longer amount of time before a target, like a tower or castle, shows crossed swords, around 1 minute.
I’ve gotten a pre-cursor before, but sadly at the time, it was a lower demand one, I think the wand. I did get 50 gold for it though. This was late last year, like December I think.

If the notes are to be believed, this will also affect thieves:
- All duration stacking boons(Aegis, Fury, protection, Regeneration, Retaliation, Swiftness, and Vigor) and conditions(Blind, Burning, Chilled, Cripple, immobilze(now stacks duration), and Poison) now stack to a maximum of 5 times.

I made Orichalcum Ingots until ~425. (I had stockpiled 3 stacks) The rest, I made the Bloodstone stuff from 450, not sure when it petered out, and discovered the exotic recipes to 500, and sold the weapons I had made on the TP. It cost me around 30 gold to get the stuff I needed that I ran out of, like Ancient Wood.
There’s not really going to be a cheap way to get around it, especially if you didn’t stockpile stuff prior.
Have body shot cause Retaliation for 3 seconds or so in addition to it’s current effect.
