I’m P/P….. with Blinding powder and Shadow step.
you ll be surprise many ppl dont know how to counter p/p.not so great in 1v1. OK in group fight especially when AOE gone crazy.
Only problem is bunker. dps just not enough to kill them FAST.I have found in 1v1 if you get the first attack off your chances go way up. With bunkers your timing on dodges and evades has to be perfect. P/p shines in group fights just as long as you avoid being focused down.
That’s the problem with it though. You’re a DPS bot for someone else who is doing the fighting. When you’re spotted, you’re done. Not a fun proposition.
Say nothing and troll the living daylights out of them until they rage log.
All these garbage thieves wanting to change DB that have no idea. Here is a tip for you. Thieves DO NOT have any cool downs on weapon skills. You can spam heartseeker (which a lot of you garbage thieves do anyways), cluster bombs, choking gas, unload, or black powder. The only cool downs are on weapon swap and utilities/elite. Find a combination that suit your play style (steal/cd/backstab/hs… or whatever) and run with it.
You have zero idea at to how powerful DB really is but you think that some how a new skill or revamped DB is going to make you better.
Considering you can spam your favorite skill over and over if you cannot come up with a combo/build as is, one new/revamped skill is not going to help.
I lol’d, because this is how I feel too.
Ditto.
Not trying to sound uber… it is just a great skill, but would agree with Einlanzer evade tweak. I think folks are playing too much theory-craft GW2. I play D/D condi main with P/D in WvW and sPvP when not playing power builds… the P/D set gets played around 20% of each fight because D/D gets the job done faster.
It’s fantastic as a the first wave bleed application in 1vX. With P/D as second set and full dire with cover condis and Krait (which also turns dancing daggers into serious AE damage) this is a very powerful camp trasher and 1vX iWin. Also, heretically, I change very little in sPvP (Carrion amo) and comfortably fight all the class/spec combos thieves currently hate. It’s amazing vs turrets, PUs, RFs, zoos, hambows, etc. D/D #1 is for mini-cleave poison, #2 is mobility, #4 is CC and 5 is stealth… I get it sticks out as completely pointless in a power set… but it’s amazing as the centre ability in a condi D/D set and far more fun to play than P/D (although it’s nice on weapon swap).
All of this a little too heretical for pen and paper internet e-fights where combat takes place on skills builder and is toted as law in thread responses. However, toning down it’s condi effectiveness or evade capability to try and ‘powerize’ it would just make another fringe set usage (D/D condi) extinct.
I’m not usually prone to throwing out glib statements like ’it’s fine’ to try and look cool… but I use DB relentlessly and think it’s perfect. It shouldn’t be put into a place where it is so good everyone simply switches to it because it outshines everything else. It should be good in some situations and bad in others and should be a tough choice over other decent skills.
TheFool… is a ranger nearby?
Smacktalking league of classes:
1) Thieves. Sadly this is the one class that can’t handle losing, especially if all I’m doing is DeathBlossoming over their spammed attacks until they die.
2) Warriors. Geez. Expecially Hambows… they HATE it when the knockdown knockdown doesn’t work.
I do love it though… sPvP or WvW… I’m not fussy. Just means I got em good.
Copy paste from my reply from the Ranger forums:
Long time Ranger main here (haven’t touched it since my return in preference of my Thief who, admittedly, had more or less become my main before I took a year or more off from GW2). I was surprised to see that Rangers had received any buffs at all.
I run a D/D Thief for roaming and solo camping in WvW. You get 3 dodges with full endurance and LDB. Basically, save your evasion frames for the rapid fire attack. You can dodge 99% of it with some patience. Don’t fight in Barrage, use Cloack and Dagger on the pet as much as possible (this is key, as any pet class should be easy pickings for a thief since pets cannot evade CnD).
You’re a thief, the master of deciding which fights you want to fight and which you don’t. If you get a poor opening on a Ranger, run away. Come back on your own terms.
I agree with all the tactics… big problem nowadays in CnD does nothing to stop the pain… the ranger can see you all the time.
Right now I need about 1k obsidian shards. A track with 1k obsidian shards would be great thanks.
So you wouldn’t kill my ranger then
you’d need more damage / procs / luck / RNG support from the game.
I’ve used a P/P signet build off and on for giggles and harvesting Karma… it ain’t anywhere as good as my ranger at the moment.
Mandatory to live through ranger RF. Can’t switch it out for anything else.
And just for laughs.
Challenge accepted. I win. I even did this without using utilities or food running a full signet use build. I went the whole minute and won the fight. If you can’t survive for 8s against a ranger, it’s L2P. We have so many dodges and repositions on shortbow it’s not even funny. This fight as P/D would have just been unfair.
P.S. Clutch venoms :P
Well you did say why you needed to HiS (condi clear) and you didn’t linger in the stealth mode but let me say the inevitable about the warrior… so bad…. so so bad.
When I’m on my ranger… any thief not in stealth is dead in WAY under 8s. All of them.
DS is mandatory now for sure. And keeping a warrior’s whirling blades is also attractive. I’m back to maining the thief again as I have harvested all the karma I needed on the ranger in 2 weeks. Twas a silly 2 weeks of machine gun murder with no risk.
Guys… Played him again last night. There were plenty of brand new rangers to harvest but I found the thieves the easiest class to own over and over and I struggle to believe there is a flock of new thieves rushing to play thier massively nerfed class. Doesn’t matter what class it was… It’s just not risky running a glass ranger…. No risk.
They certainly changed it so you can proc both a while back… unsure of last few changes though… may have reverted it.
I can see a lot of folks moving to P/P at the moment and I get it… On all my power builds my secondary set has always been P/P for remote drilling of opponents etc.
I know there are specific counters, but I am playing my old LB ranger at the moment and P/P thieves are dieing at 1k range before they can get to play which just makes me feel bad.
Yeah Longbow is going to get nerfed. I thought it would be reigned in playing some sPvP without all the WvW bonuses but it isn’t. I can destroy everything 1:1 from range in there and not just glass… nothing can stand up to it. Thieves are fleeing across the kitten map after one encounter.
I’m even getting jumped and drilling folks down to zero in one rotation so the whole get to me and you got me thing is not valid. Zerker amulet, fire, air, pets that CC and this toon went into stupid land.
Yeah when I think of glass I think of the berserker signet burn build. Blow all 3 signets for 15 might and see if you can end them with the first flurry because if you don’t… you are teh ballet dancer thief.
The ranger. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.
Now I wonder.
Will the endless crying about thieves finally, finally end?
Somehow I doubt it
No way round it for legendaries right?
Does Zomorro think I have years to keep getting the mats needed to try for clovers? Don’t know how many batches of ten of stuff I’ve blown and not one clover yet.
Hehe. But yeah 8v8 was far more unpredictable.
Should be brought back as an option. 5v5 gets boring… Too easy to track enemies and too formulaic.
The D/D guy was right in a way. Death blossom makes hambows easy.
I’ve been running Around 60/40 D/D P/D conditions recently because:
A) I like killing people.
B) I don’t like to die.
Weird huh?
Best classes to kill on this are PU mes, minion mancers, rangers, ham bows, turret monkeys. Pretty much what everyone else hates or is running themselves.
There is a complaint about a pistol thief in here.
<Checks which forum he is in to make sure it is the sPvP one> <scratches head>High power P/P with ricochet and fire sigil… init replenishment where possible. It’s boring though, like all zerg play. Unload, Unload, Unload, run/collect bags, repeat.
Great, thanks!!!
Fractal level 8 and never got one. It drops right?
Vial of Condensed Mist Essence.
So I went out in full Dire in WvW with DB as main attach and rolled camps and solos / duos all evening. Still love the skill.
Went into sPvP had a much harder time of course with no food and lots of 5v5 in the face but it performed very well in most situations still. Just longer fights, but interestingly did really well versus the folks people hate in there right now (turret engis, hambows and minion necros).
I simply really enjoy it despite the heavy Bleed bias and condition management by enemy classes.
It’s close to a trollish build I played around with for a while where I would shadow shot in, smeck em, withdraw, steal, smack em, RFI, Infil signet, smack em, switch weapon, shadow strike.
It was just to play with people but ended up having the desired effect of sending them into a right mess of blowing all kinds of abilities when you aren’t there.
Only way I can face these guys is with boatloads of evasion being available. It’s like a cat on a hot tin roof style of play… pretty irritating and not easy to win.
Good play – very fun watch for a vid. Nice.
I like to gravitate to overpowered things… it makes me feel like a big man.
So… I will try this one out as I have generally steered clear of x/x/x/6/6 builds up until now as they make you look like you are permanently about to get your head bashed in as you leap around like a button mashing muppet.
However – I see on the build suggestion that is a berserker amulet. That really the best option on this one?
I’ve always liked it. Great skill.
Yep, it’s what I keep coming back to for PvP.. except I use Thrill of the crime and no haste. Usually run scholars and Air/Fire on weapons.
Thank the gods 8v8 ANet servers are gone. This will encourage beginners to actually learn how to pvp for real.
If not, people can still just hop into someone else’s 8v8 custom arena and never improve.
I’ve always found 5v5 easier than 8v8. It’s far easier to know where everyone is and simpler to understand the strategy for winning. 8v8 meant you needed eyes in the back of your head at all times.
Here is some pretty old video footage of me and Snuffles having a few duels if anyone is interested.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xk4f_7mGZLo&feature=youtu.be
Yikes Vince. I can’t watch attrition between two survivor specs.
No I read fine. You said a thief repeatedly hit ‘3’ on his keyboard and that this was ‘melting tanks’ and ‘melting people’. Clearly you were implying that this was skillful play that is hard to do a on a class that is in need of attention.
Alright so I have just encountered something that is just…disturbing. there is this thief who is going around using nothing but the dual wield pistol skill, the channel one, and absolutely melting tanks. I am full dire, 23k hp and 3374 armor and this thief is just spamming the duel wield skill over and over melting people. Me and another level 80 tried 2v1ing him and he got us both very low then just ran off invisible because he was low. this isn’t a rage thread, I’m just saying anyone who thinks thief is underpowered is just a bad thief.
P/P is overpowered? Oh dear god it happened… I have now. Heard. Everything.
Have to agree – there are a lot of them about but they tend to go whiffing thin air, rooting themselves everywhere.
I like D/D as a primary set despite the nerfing… I’ve run it with all kinds of combos of runes, sigils and amulets. It’s going to be personal taste so play around with stuff at length in the mists. For me thugh… I like the ultimate risk because I like that if I attack someone they die and if I miss a key I die… so I play a silly 3 signet burn build when going D/D.

Does not work against good players, so feel free to use it all the time in hotjoin
It’s just pure stress relief for me. The pistols are really only there for 10 stacks of bloodlust each powder stomp but also do nuts damage when you’re on cooldown. I just want to be clear, this is a bad build in there… but you harvest a lot of glory very quickly and any other spec will feel like someone ha sthe brakes on.
I’d have runes and sigils that place other weapons in your hands.
D/D signet build full glass. Absolutely no safety net.
Both HiS and Withdraw are great skills for the thief in sPvP, because they provide both condition removal and utility (Stealth or a low cd Evade, istant cast).
Honestly I don’t see Signet of Malice to be any good in anything other than a 4Signet Kill-or-Die spec.
Also, with D/P you will not be autoattacking much in sPvP because you would die quickly to AoEs, so taking it while hoping for a better sustain is not viable. That said, Signet of Malice works really well in WvW group fights when you are using your Shortbow and Daggerstorm.
Agree with that – even on a signet burn build I still use HiS more than signet… repositioning with HiS is more valuable than being exsposed.
Hey all, it’s been a while since I’ve brought out any builds, so this time I thought I would do something a little different. Okay, you got me, a LOT different.
SnipI hope someone finds some fun in this build. I know I’ve had my share of it.
Also, Shortbus was supposed to be Shortbow, but I’m posting this on my phone and autocorrect happened. Happy mistake? I think so!
I like the intent and it’s good to see something a bit different. I think most folks in this game feel there are a few specs that you must play or you can’t play the game… almost anything works in the right hands.
The only thing I struggle with Viking is that an Apothecary thief in WvW and Shaman thief in sPvP is far more immortal and kills much easier
So I will always play with your specs for fun, but when I want to go ‘immortal’ I defer to heavy stealth+condition+healing. I find it just as easy to kill in WvW or PvP on heavy heal as heavy power… they just don’t realise they’re dead til a bit later
So I play 3 builds – heal thief, condi thief and full glass depending on what I feel like. Full glass is way way more skillfull, dangerous and subsequently, fun. Having nothing but one shot at a burst is exciting as heck – throughout allllll the nerfs I’ve been perfectly fine adjusting and enjoying the class, but removing yet ANOTHER 10% out of the most fun aspect of the class is tiring.
I’ve been playing warrior and ranger a fair bit too… the game is too slow in these modes. I need the thief in order to continue playing and I need a versin of the thief that is highly dangerous but periodically rewarding.
I think the easiest class to kill on a thief is a thief. Not sure what that means exactly.
