Try scandisk and defrag, looks like your hard drive may be failing. Also is there enough room on the drive for the game it will need at least 16+GB.

It is a bug in windows 8.1 go into your graphics card utility program and uncheck 3D stereoscopic rendering.

Just get the 64 bit windows install DVD, ask around if someone has it you can borrow, or download it. As long as you have your own genuine license key it will work on both the 32 or 64bit version. You just need to make sure the flavor is right like Windows home premium.

Go into your video card driver utility and turn stereoscopic 3d rendering off.

First what is the specs of the laptop can it handle the game. Second just copying the game folder over is not the right way to install the game. You need to download the installer app then let it install till it gets to that long download process then close out of the game. Then only copy over the gw2.dat file from the folder you tried to run the game from to the folder that the game was installed to. Also make sure that you run GuildWars in administrator mode.

We need more info from you, your PC specs for a start then are you connecting to the internet with an either net cable or WiFi. If it’s WiFi try a cable, see if the problem goes away. Try just turning off the firewall in the router or set the security level to lowest. I never run a firewall they are so over rated unless you use your PC for a business where you need the added security, firewalls just creat more problems then they are worth.

This is just a suggestion, I run the current game I play on a clean install of windows don’t run anything but the game and a VoIP app like TS3 or vent and have no problems with the game. Since this PC is only for gaming I just use Windows Security Essentials for anti virus and have all firewalls turn off. The point is that this game uses a lot of the PC’s resources so if you have some program, app, or anti virus running in the background this is known to have problems. So as a last resort try reinstalling Windows update all drivers from the manufacturers web site, do not use a 3rd party driver finder utility. Reinstall the game, I’m almost certain this will solve your problems.

In many of the dev interviews this question has been ask and the answer has been at some point in time we will get personal housing but no date has been set for it.

Check your virus scan maybe it’s scheduled at that time if so change the time or disable it.

Recently I’ve been noticing climbing latency, with it now peaking out at about 380ms. I live reasonably close to Anet, and no other application is reporting above 120ms latency. I’d like to point out, that this time last year I was in Europe playing GW2, and was experiencing about 150ms. Seems like something is slipping or going on.

Could someone please let me know what this is, or when a fix is coming? It’s really affecting some of our runs where we cut things to the wire.

Do you live in Washington state where Anet’s headquarter are or do you live in Texas where the game servers are, because if you live in Washington then you may be experiencing packet loss from some crapy node between you and the game servers in Texas. Not much you can do about it but contact your ISP and see if they can do something most of the problem lies with fiberoptic backbones and nodes owned by Verizon. Have you run a ping path between you and the game server it will tell you where the issue is

Wow that really odd are you sure the item is salvageable, if the item you are trying to salvage is highlighted in red that item is not salvageable if the item is highlighted in blue and won’t salvage you have a problem. Also make sure your packs and bags or not full an item will not salvage with a full inventory.

All you need to copy over is the gw2.dat file to the folder the game was installed on your new PC. Make sure your old PC GuildWars install is up to date then download the installer app on your new PC. Let it start the large download then close the game. Copy over the gw2.dat file from your old PC to your new PC in the folder the game was installed in, most likely C:\programfiles\Guildwars2 unless you change it when you installed the game. Also make very sure that the copied over gw2.dat does not become read only if it does the game will start the large download all over again.

Check your power supply is it rated for your system configuration and what brand is, if it’s a cheap one that may be your problem. There are a lot of craptastic PSU out there that are rated at one thing and under load, that GuildWars put your PC in, can’t handle it.

Your local.dat file may be set to read only, you need to disable this. Find the local.dat file, right click on it goto properties, and uncheck read only

Ok just found where the local.dat file is

C://Users/“the user that is log into windows”/AppData/Roaming/GuildWars2/local.dat

Local.dat was moved but not sure where. It’s in the hidden files I think maybe someone knows exactly where. Also the reason you got that problem is some how your local.dat file got set to read only, so when you find it make sure it is not set to read only this will fix your issue

Alot of people are having this issue. I personally believe its a problem with the game itself.

Well if that the case then 400,000+ people that play this game in any given hour don’t have this problem. I don’t have this problem all the friend I play with don’t have this problem. The problem lies in the varied different PC configuration out there Anet can’t test for all of them. Looking threw the tech support forums the number of people that have a problem with this game is very low. I no this doesn’t help with your issue but for all intense a and purpose this game is fairly stable. Just keep researching and trying everything that people have done with success and if you do find an answer please post it it may help others and keep in mind that the problem could be a defective component in you PC.

1. right clicked desktop click on Nvidia control panel
2. click Set Up Stereoscopic 3D
3. Uncheck the box that reads “Enable stereoscopic 3D”
4 restart GW2

Hi Guys, I have also the same problem of black screen then PC rebooting.
I just recently changed my MB and CPU, and the rest of my hardware i tranferred (GPU, RAM, DVD burners, HDD). This is what I’m running:

Asus Z87-k
i7 4770
Ati Radeon HD 5670
8 Gb Ram @ 1333

I can play for 5 hrs and then boom it shuts down… CPU is not overheating ( max 62 degrees cel.) , GPU max was 56, MB was 28. So no overheating there. I thought the cause was the PSU so i changed it….still reboots….so its not the GPU nor the CPU nor the PSU…Checked Ram with Memtest…no errors found…. Updated all drivers, even the BIOS! Still it reboots!

Is there something I’m overlooking?

Could it be a defective MB? or simply GW2 doing all of this?

Yes you could have a bad motherboard, a very common problem is popped or blown capacitors. Capacitors are small cylindrical components that have an aluminum canister housing with an "X,+ or K " grove mark in the top. Also there is a plastic sleeve around them that can be several different colors, the most common color is light blue. The grove marks in the top act as a pressure release valve, if a capacitor fails they have a tendency to explode, so the groves allow the aluminum to expand and bulge up. Look at all the capacitors on the board if any look like they are bulging up you may need to replace the whole board. Some people have replaced the bad capacitors with mixed results. You could try but you need very good soldering skills and the understanding of soldering on multi layered boards. This is why when buying a motherboard you want to get the ones with the good Japanese capacitors on it, not the ones from China.

Maybe the card is defective do you have access the a second PC to test it in see if it does the same thing.

Power supply may be a bit low you may want to go with 600 or even 700 watts depending on CPU and anything else installed in your PC. It could be boarder line on the PSU. Your PC runs OK till you play the game, game runs OK for a while then the PSU heats up causing a voltage drop PC freezes up.

Check you power supply it should be rated at least 700watts or more, even if it is rated at 700 or more some of the cheaper ones can’t handle the load for any period of time and will detect a thermal overload and stop working causing you PC to reboot. Also if your are running a prebuilt PC and you add a higher end graphics card most PC manufactures only put in the PSU that is rated for that configuration like 450 to 500watts. You may not experience any issues with you system until you run a high level game like GuildWars. There have been several post about replacing the PSU and that solved the problem. No all voice chat is done on third party apps like TeamSpeak and Ventrilo there is no built in voice chat in this game. Most large guild run a voice chat server, join a guild that has one and you will get voice chat.

Game does not use DX11 only uses DX 9 also it may be the graphic card is a little out dated.

When you upgraded to windows 8 did you get all the windows 8 drivers for your video card and motherboard chipset.

But disabling windows update is not really a fix it’s more like a bandaid, windows updates are important. I let windows update automatically and there was just one the other day and still playing with no problems with the game so like I said I think there is more going with your PC that you may want to check into.

Also check for missing or update motherboard chipset drivers.

It’s not that they don’t test the updates, it’s that they test on a clean install of windows. It’s up to the 3rd party software devs to test there stuff, to make sure it works with the updates. It’s impossible for Microsoft to test there update with every app, program, software and game out there. since you are the first to post this then it’s most likely that you have something on you PC that after the windows update it made windows and GuildWars not play well together. If I hade to guess I would check and see if your motherboard chipset drivers are up to date those are very commonly overlooked when trouble shooting PC issues. Also I know its a pain but in your case you might want to reformat and reinstall windows, update windows install all latest stable drivers the install the game. I’m 99% positive all your problems with the game will be gone.

Unfortunately there Is not much of the game on those disks it’s just and installer so you are going to have to download 16GB+ but there may be a way around this. Do you know anyone with uncapped internet if so go there install the game on their PC and let it download all the files the game needs. This could take some time depending I how fast their internet is. Then goto the directory you installed the game to and with a large enough flash drive or portable hard drive copy the gw2.dat file. Take it home and copy it to the directory where you installed guildWars2 over writing the existing gw2.dat file and enjoy the game. Hope you get this worked out good luck.

If your PC freezes and just shouts down for no apparent reason then it’s NOT the game client it’s most likely over heating, bad power supply, or popped capacitors on your motherboard.

Your probably missing a driver most likely for your motherboard chipset.

I already have the 16gb gw2.dat file. But for some reason when I open gw2.exe it starts downloading at the login part.

Then your dat file is out of date the game updated the GW.exe file now you need a current dat file that goes with it. It seems that lately every time there is an update or patch the exe file get updated.

The full update is somewhere around 16Gs, so if your internet is on the slow side find a friend or family member with faster internet and go over and install the game to there PC. Then with a large enough flash drive or portable hard drive copy the gw2.dat file. Take it home and copy over the gw2.dat file on your PC.

The game has it built in for the VoIP program Mumble. Mumble is an open source VoIP client server similar to TS and Ventrilo, but is not as widely use because it is to easily hacked. So the plugin for TS3 uses the Mumble audio positioning data sent in the data stream from the game server to the TS client using Crosstalk on your PC. I think it is part of the same data sent to the game client telling it where to position each characters in your visible area in the game. Not sure how it all works but it does and it’s really cool

This is perfectly legal because the game provides the audio positioning data and does not modify the data stream from your client. It also does not give you an unfair advantage by being able to hear the audio position of other players it just adds a sensory emersion into the game. I was hoping that this would be available for TS will have to try it out. The only thing Crosstalk does is change the right and left volume in your stereo headset to simulate the voices from different players that are coming from the direction their characters are standing in the game on TS.

Have you tried to reset your modem or router?

Looks like you may have something running in the background while you are playing the game check your task manager to see what’s going on, could also be a virus

Are you playing the game on a Mac, if so then there are suggestion on how to fix this issue in the Mac beta tech forum. If you are on a PC this is a first it has been posted here. Wether you are on a Mac or PC try lowering the ingame graphic settings, this issue looks like it is only showing up on the Mac beta client.

What is your PCs specs.

I did a google search for you and found the your problem could be do to corrupt outdated or missing motherboard drivers this is common for people to update there video card drivers and forget the motherboard.

Don’t forget the motherboard drivers these are commonly over look or forgotten to check for updates.

Unfortunately most of the lag is being caused by packet loss from the path to the server these paths are on fiber optic backbones own by Verizon and Level 3 hopefully Anet is in negotiations with these companies to resolve this issue.

I guess as a last resort you could reformat and reinstall windows. Then install all updated drivers from the hardware manufacturers web site don’t use the driver CDs that came with the hardware then update drivers get latest and install. Next install Windows Security essentials for anti virus, then install the game. If this doesn’t fix your problem then it is a hardware issue.

Is it choppy from lag or low frame rates.

Did you turn of firewall in both windows and modem or router.

You might try for an intel I5 or better at this point the game does not run well on AMD processors.

Have you a altered any router or firewall setting, or set up a new modem or router. I think the TP needs in own port to be forwarded I think it is 443.

Still might be a good idea to run scandisk and defrag just to check and make sure your hard drive is OK. This might take a while so do it when there is plenty of time that you are away from you PC so you don’t have to wait to play.

No sure not in game but usually this means TP is down try again later or restart your PC and get back into the game in see if that fixes it.
