Just a quick hijack question. The dragon Claw of Jormag in Frostgroge Sound, it is the elder dragon Jormag itself or just some champ like Shatterer and Sunless?
A champion. “The dragon claw of Jormag”. Insinuates it is not Jormag himself
Agree with you 100% OP. The mentality I see predominantly on these forums is:
“I dislike something minor. Better start a thread about it.”
Whilst constructive discourse is a great thing, most of the threads don’t come even close to constructive.
On someone’s birthday, Anet should mail them an exotic box called “Precursor or Porous Bone”. It should be tradeable.
MT – Mis-tell (wrong window… just as you typed “I plunge deeper…” in to /map)
WTT/WTB – Want To Trade / Want To Buy
WP – WayPoint
SP – SkillPoint
Side note:
Some of the ones mentioned above really aren’t necessary or globally used, e.g. “GLF” is pretty redundant and in years of MMOs, I’ve never seen it. I wouldn’t bother listing those that are pretty niche… just my opinion of course, and if it is ubiquitous and I have somehow managed to avoid it, then so be it.
If I were ArenaNet I’d do it how I did the main game release, cash only, but with another “edition” which is more expensive, but can be upgraded to with gems.
In my mind, this is the only sane thing to do.
I wouldn’t assume that they have increased the drop-rate, you might have just got real lucky
Someone was doing a quiz on Tarnished Coast Borderlands. The top prize for the last question, was [Spark]. I got it right.
The Gimli
Axe
Shouts “AND MY AXE” every time you swing it.
I might get flamed for this, but it irks me when someone asks “what is the best class for X”, and you can replace “X” with “PvE”, “WvW”, “Dungeons” or “courting the opposite sex”. Rather than play a class that is best suited to a task, why not play one you enjoy – settle on a build you enjoy, and then learn it to the point that you are efficient at all tasks with it?
Don’t bother with MF gear. If you must use MF, use a booster + passive buffs (guild banners, Omnomberry Bars, etceteras).
Good idea! Thieves also use Shortbow for ranged. I’d argue that Shortbow is used more than pistols, actually.
Good effort!
So you people go out of your way to actively attempt to complete the daily like this? It just happens to me. What shocks me is that after this I wouldn’t be surprised if you think something like “Oh, got my daily done, time to do a dungeon!” at which point you would have gotten the achivement anyway.
It confuses me most of all at the people going to special places to get the evasion daily. You know what you can get the evasion daily off? Anything that can attack. Do you know what attacks? Everything in the kittening game asdf
Have you considered that maybe they want to do the daily in a limited amount of time? Perhaps they don’t have the time to do a dungeon and they want to get the daily as efficiently as possible.
What is far more amusing is that you’re letting the way someone else plays, bother you – and in no way does it affect you. Are you some kind of gameplaying hipster? “I get my dailies the right way, the way God himself intended”. Who the hell are you to point fingers at the way others play? Get over yourself.
By “stat advanced legendaries” I believe the OP is referring to the fact that Legendaries will gain ascended-stats, rather than exotic.
Of course, Anet could also just give us somewhat challenging, non repetitive, non time consuming dailies.
Whilst I agree with you somewhat – the moment ArenaNet puts something even vaguely challenging in for a daily is when the entire proportion of GW2’s mouth-breathers come on the forums and complain because they can’t do it in the time it takes their moms to come back from the store with cheeto refills.
After I sold a precursor, I deposited 200g, and sent a friend the same amount who deposited it and then sent it back. This was quite a while ago. I don’t see it as an issue, really.
Ok, after some discussions with some people, I have found the answer to this and thought I’d reply so that others can benefit.
When a Veteran Karka has its shell on, it is “Armoured”. This is basically continuous defiance and so therefore, the Karka is immune to CC, period.
In the second phase, with the shell off – it IS possible to CC it, however it spams “Stability” a hell of a lot, which means you have to time the CC perfectly.
This is why Vet Karkas are a kitten. Hope this helps others.
I ran around getting what I could, bit by bit as I went. Was worried about the precursor (Spark), but then won it in a lore-quiz on Tarnished Coast Borderlands… just working on lodestones now, really.
I have no issue with a downed state per-se. But I think there should be simply two buttons to press. 1 for your downed-attack (to rally), and 4 to cling to life. Get rid of the class-specific annoyances.
Hi guys,
I’m a pretty seasoned GW2 player. I play a D/D + SB thief. Have done since BWE1. Lots of fun! After a recent dungeon run with my guild, I thought I should have an off-set of exotic pistols so that I can have them before particular boss-fights to able to bring stacks of defiance down and perform interrupts. I’d done it in the past, and it works quite well when coordinated with others also using interrupts.
A guildie and I went to Southsun Cove to have a bit of a test of fighting with me, instead of doing my usual full on D/D or SB, standing back and using the interrupt ability with my guildie doing the main DPS. Young karkas… fine… interrupts nicely. Reef Riders, Veteran Reef Riders, regular karkas, also – all nice.
Then, that brings us to the Veteran Karkas. It has no defiance. It appears to be a regular veteran mob, and the ability descriptions don’t mention that it is immune to interrupts. However, as my guildie attacked and I used my interrupt shot, every time it was either evaded, or immune. This occurs both in phase 1 with the shell, and phase 2 afterwards (I might have understood phase 1 with the shell perhaps, but phase 2…?).
Is this intended behaviour and something unique to veteran karkas? Further practices on other high level vet mobs, interrupts worked fine and we’re able to down a beast with pretty much no damage being done to either of us. But vet karkas… not the case.
Note, this is not a whinge – I’m fine if that is how a Veteran Karka is supposed to behave and is a “special case”. Just wondering!
Thanks in advance.
Sorry, but RNG is RNG. I salvage a lot and have noticed no differences. Sometimes I am luckier than other times, but the status quo appears to be succinctly maintained.
Server transfers are a convenience for the player, not just a money sink. Without the 7 day limit, people with a bit of cash could switch WvW servers instantly, which could cause problems. Server transfers are not something you’re do “every day”. It’s when you want to move home somewhere else “More permanent”.
If you’re talking about your inventory, the bottom left is Gems.
Well, I have Garrison! Just need Hills and your Garrison in EB!
Love you guys! Mwahs!
— Fiennes :P
A free for all, death-match overflow whilst queueing would be awesome. I know, sPvP is team death match, but just a simple map where people gather whilst queueing would be good.
Break, the game isnt any better than before patch, some stuff even worse now like dungeons (got even easier) and dailies (more annoying and time consuming).
Not sure about the new story stuff yet, didnt see anything of it.
Dungeons didn’t get easier… there may have been some tuning, but the fact you can’t waypoint-zerg anymore mitigates that, somewhat.
Dailies have never been time-consuming and yesterdays (even with the bugs) and todays were quick and painless.
And this breaks the game for you?

“Community Special Operations”.
I had this mental imagery of someone reporting a post, and you guys smashing in through their apartment window on zip lines and double-tapping them. Please say this is true.
Well, London Underground trains take a set amount of time to get to their destination. Predicting when the train will arrive is pretty easy. Heck, even with delays etc, you can still predict its arrival. It’s on a track, going at known speed in a certain direction.
You may be able to say “You are x in a queue out of y”, but you can’t give much prediction on time there.
EDIT: Incidentally, WoW had an estimation time when one was queueing for LFG to do a dungeon. It wasn’t accurate in the slightest. But even with dungeons, one can try and predict the length of the run based on averages gathered. I am not sure what use an average would be for how long any one player stays in WvW.
This was (unfortunately) possible prior to the patch.
Wait…What? Fiennes this is not the post that I have come to love! Where is that other one that made me grin!
Hrm, which one was that? :P
Okay, you’ve won. By a country mile. I bow down to your superior numbers and coverage. I think it’s time you guys put your feet up for a little bit, and let Tarnished Coast take back Hills & Garrison so that I can get my vistas.
Love and kisses,
—
Fiennes.
This would be a really terrible feature. Sorry to say it. Basically “larger” characters have a distinct advantage (Getting away from things).
According to the patch notes:
“In PvE, if a player is awarded loot by killing a creature and the loot is of uncommon rarity or higher, a chest will appear that contains the loot that would previously have been on the corpse. If the rarity of the loot on the creature is lower than uncommon, the loot will remain on the creature’s corpse.”
I just saw my first one, and the contents was 2 pourous Bones, e.g. Junk. Is this intended, DR (I’ve just started in Orr today), or a bug?
Just wondering, thanks in advance
It’s not highway robbery at all, don’t be so dramatic! Given you state yourself that it’s half the cost of the game, it’s clear to me that it is cheaper to use the gems than to buy a new copy of the game – plus you get to keep your characters, so that point is moot.
Free Transfers have been there since the day the game started, and you choose a week before it goes paid to do this? Sounds like some bad communication on your half. I know it can be frustrating, and I know that guesting solves most of the issues for most people, but if WvW is what you want to primarily do then I guess that doesn’t help.
All this talk of respect between servers, peace, love….I don’t know what these guys are talking about. I go into WvW, and I HATE SOR. I don’t think to myself “Gee, I hope I get a good and challenging match today” I think “What damage has SOR done today that I must attempt to staunch”. I LOATHE the SOR. there is not pity in my heart, no more room for niceness, no more “enjoyment”.
SOR complaining that TC has only been getting stomped for a couple weeks. I’ve been here for a good bit now, I remember Blackgate. The only problem was, from the get go, I knew there was no shot with Blackgate. Suddenly, out of thin air, SOR goes from a worthy, challenging opponent to “ROLD ZERG STOMP FEST” in every borderland. That so many people (Traitors) jumped to join SOR is even more hilarious. Yes, I call them traitors. Weak willed, weak hearted TRAITORS. I secretly pray, to whatever Internet Gods may/may not be listening "Internet Gods, Let me smite a server transfer today. Before they bask in the “Glory” of taking our keep, let me just dunk on one of them". There is no “respect” or “camaraderie” to be had with a server filled with weak willed traitors. There is only death, and much dunking to be had.
I remember waking up to a sea of Green one morning and telling myself “Surely, TC will be resisting with every fiber of it’s soul” and instead, a TEA PARTY on a friggen bridge. That is when I knew, right then and there, I could not count on the Fiber of TC to resist. I put away my Support spec gear, and donned the mask of Glass Cannon, shaking my head as I watch the rest of my brethren in TC try to push their way out of spawn. I hope, in my wanderings, those SOR I dunked on happened to be server transfer traitors.
Weak willed TC Brethren: You do not fight when you are only winning. That does not matter. This is WvW. You fight to fight, to bring death to the SOR. The only thing I am glad for, is that the Internet Gods have blessed us with a great abundance of SOR bodies to choose from! I’ve gained more honor badges fighting now then ever. Is our keep taken? ROAM! poke supply camps. poke sentry’s. Poke wandering SOR scum scurrying back to their “Glorious” horde. Camp vistas and POI. Give them NOTHING. But most of all, fill your hearts with hate. Hate your enemy, and you will continue to fight them, no matter the outcome. Loathe your enemy, because you know in your heart that they are filled with server transfers who jumped ship.
I think I might frame this and put it on my wall. Tips Hat
Hell yes its worth playing. I’m there to rip of peoples’ heads and use their throats as public toilets.
Scores is a bonus if we get them.
I know you want to kill your enemies but please keep this thread PG. Thanks
That IS PG. I think perhaps you want things kept (U)niversal.
They’re not saying that at all. That’s just something you’ve read in to it.
What Atlas has said is pretty much a decent guide and viewpoint. I’d take that advice.
Tarnished Coast For The Win.
Yes, I’ve heard people say that they really like that one. What makes it so great?
Aside from the unofficial status as the North American RP Server, it has attracted a crowd of many really good people and guilds. WvW-wise, we’re actually in Tier 2, so quite competitive. I love it, and I could never imagine being on any other server. Sure, there’s the odd troll, but there’s a lot less of them than other servers. Most zones are populated, I rarely am on my own, even if I am solo-ing.
Tarnished Coast For The Win.
White – Salvage (Basic Salvage Kit)
This is not entirely true. Many low whites will sell for up to 1 silver on the trading-post because people use them to transmute on to. That is way more than what you’d get from the mats when salvaging.
Why is this an issue? Pick a server, stick with it. Guest for free on other servers.
You might want to
1) Let people know which server you are on
2) Post this to “Players helping Players”
:)
What is this? I don’t even….
Services will be held over the next two days for two of the greatest Norn legends of our time. It will be Eir today, Garn tomorrow.
This is pure poetry
Here lies Fiennes, who briefly gazed at what was beneath Rata Sum… before he hit it.
In the world of Tyria, the death of your main-character loss is mourned/celebrated. A true hero has gone on to the mists. We shall miss him/her.
What will be written on your gravestone in the Shaemoor Graveyard (or wherever your race puts memorials up to heroes)?
There was no grind to get best in slot gear in WoW. You simply play the content, and the gear comes to you.
Oh, but there was (I believe). Running that same 10-man raid, week after week, month after month, to get the dagger that has a % drop from the end-boss… is a grind (to some). I actually prefer farming a bunch of mobs for T6 mats, then running the dungeon over and over again.
There was a sword in WoW… I forget its name. Had nice stats and a great fire-animation. Dropped from one of the dragons in the Sunken Temple (not even a raid). It dropped, I won the roll, and all is good. My friend who was with me wanted it. She then ran that 9 times a day for 4 weeks (because it wasn’t a raid, no lock out). Never dropped again.
But even that was aesthetics. Not best in slot.
I agree there is a grind if you want to go and get a legendary. Holy cats, there is a grind. But it’s utterly unnecessary as the stats are no better than the top-level stat gear. One does it for the prestige and the looks. That’s it. Gameplay wise, you are no different from anybody else.
I think the philosophy is basically that you don’t have to grind to progress. Which is probably why there was a bit of backlash against ascended gear. In WoW, the grind to get your “best-in-slot” gear was insane. You can be decked out in exotics in this game pretty kitten quickly and without a grind, other than earning gold/karma. But you can buy the exotics off the trading-post and much of the karma gear people do for looks only. You’re not locked out of dungeons and unable to perform because the game’s best dagger in that 10-man raid hasn’t dropped in 5 months.
The issue with my legendary hasn’t been the precursor, but the insane costs of T6 mats – that is the grind. But, it’ll happen… eventually. Oh, and lodestones… Holy cats…
