Diminishing Returns List for certain players?

Honestly, I think your guild mate should take off his tinfoil hat. RNG is RNG, even with Magic Find. Given that it is random, it is conceivably possible to never, ever, ever, receive a yellow item. Unlikely? Sure. Possible? Yes.

It’s laughable you call it a lie. It’s an opinion. But of course, you needed a sensationalist title to make your post all-the-more factual.

Have you checked out the karma-vendors in Orr? As a thief, I was after a particular look that I saw a mercenary wear in Fort Marimer. Then, I worked to get it and I have exactly what I want.

That said, I think there is not much disparity on armour… I think arenaNet will deliver more. Have you tried previewing the dungeon sets and mix and matching what you want?

Perhaps, for a while, we should have that mechanism back that we had in the Beta Weekends where we can give our views at the end of an event and rate it. The silent majority would then have a simple voice, without coming here on the forums. And if they’re perfectly happy with the way an event/heart-quest or whatever went – then their opinion will show.

I wish that I got +1 one this more.

A lot of folks have legitimate complaints. There are bugs, there are bugs in DR, there are balance issues. I understand that. MMOs are big releases and it can be frustrating if you are hampered.

That said, there is a huge difference in how one criticizes or makes a complaint. The majority of posts I see are rants, and a lot of that subjective. “Fix this Now”. “Don’t tell me how to play”. “this is kitten!”. Etc. It seems many of the posters here lack basic social etiquette. I’m sure I’ll get flamed for saying that, but then I believe it to be true.

Those of us with a genuine love for the game can still be annoyed by the bugs and the imbalances and other issues. We can report it, we can suggest, and we keep playing. To the posters that rant and rave like a spoiled child, well I suggest you go elsewhere.

Well said, OP.

And then bots… oh those dirty bad names. Maybe bots would be less effective if they couldn’t farm naked? If they had to react to ground effects? If they couldn’t take on groups of NPCs/mobs? If they were detected and removed?

I wonder if introducing weapon damage on death would help here. Admittedly, it may increase our repair costs – but if a bot can’t swing his sword because it’s broke, he’s not killing anything. Just a thought..

Posted by: Fiennes.9568

Fiennes.9568

Having played thief since the first BWE and still do now, I’ll throw in my 2 cents here. In WvW it can be sort of disappointing to not be a big part of the main siege, and unable to contribute as much as the 1200-ranged players, but then I don’t feel I am supposed to be doing that role. I can always build myself a trebuchet if I really want!

No, where we excel is in general skirmishes. Having been jumped with a friend by 4 invaders, and after he went down I still won the day. The feeling that 4 people somewhere are going “WTKitten?”, makes me feel far more happy than the feeling I’d get of breaking that door down with 60 other people.

What is there to buy with Karma at level 80?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Fiennes.9568

Fiennes.9568

When I was power-levelling cooking, I spent a deal of karma on “in bulk” ingredients from various heart-vendors that supply them around the world.

After that, it was all about a look I wanted (a karma-based one, not a dungeon one), and those were available from the valiant dudes and dudettes in Orr. You can imagine the frustration when you’ve managed to save it up, but the waypoint is contested due to a large event that has rendered your karma vendor either dead or unable to sell.

But it was worth every karma-penny.

Why am I getting loot I can't use most of the time?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Fiennes.9568

Fiennes.9568

I’ve been as angry as anyone else when I’ve never got loot I could use. But, the way I figure it, if I did – then loot would suddenly become rather uninteresting. If loot dropped that was always specific to my class or specific to a particular build I had – then the interest of that loot suddenly drops off.

It’s the luck of the draw, but as we all get personalized loot and rewards, it’s far better. Remember the rolls for “I need that for offspec”? Good riddance (though that was slightly off topic! ).

As unpopular as my opinion is, I will never hold back in any low-level event. And the reason is low-level loot sells…and sells for quite a lot.

I’m not going to give away my loot and money so some lowbie can do a 15-second event that repeats 2 minutes later. Sorry

As unpopular as your opinion as (which you’re entitled to!), and as unpopular as you find my response – I do find that it is this “me” attitude that can kill the social aspect of multiplayer games. But hey, it was your $60 and you’re entitled to play the way you wish.

Welcome to the world of pick-up groups.

Sadly, it doesn’t always work out well in these groups. Assuming you don’t have a guild (always good to run with guild members):

1) If you think it’s going to be more pain than not, just make a polite notice and drop-group, save yourself the bother.

2) When you have good runs, and gel with somebody, make sure you friend them. Build up a contact-list of people you’ve met in the game that you enjoy playing with inside and outside of dungeons.

3) Before running an instance with a PuG, talking to guildies (if possible), and then go through your contact-list. Guildies would be a good one, making sure everyone represents the guild, as you will earn influence for the run.

I haven’t had to pug more than 1 “random” member, except on one occasion when I did a PuG group… which I left rather quickly as soon as I saw it about to fall about. It’s not worth the repair bills. Just be courtesy when you get out of dodge

I think the combat in this game feels very stale.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Fiennes.9568

Fiennes.9568

On the contrary, compared “that” other MMO (as that was the one I had played for years before GW2, and so is a fine candidate for comparison), combat feels very fluid and dynamic. I don’t miss the loads of other abilities my “Rogue” had back then, as I had a set rotation which rarely changed.

The more I’ve played with my thief, and reading learned people’s thoughts – I have different weapon sets for different situations… I combine skills together to get maximum effect, I dodge, I stay alive and I go toe-to-toe with mobs in a glorious fashion.

I really don’t think “stale” is appropriate.

Thanks guys, these suggestions do make a difference, even if they are obvious to some.

The “Giant Wurm” event in Queensdale just popped. I used auto-attack on 2 of the smaller worms, a single dagger throw at the big worm, and then backed off.

243 karma, and it still took 15 seconds.

Thanks for the input guys. I think from now on I’ll switch to my auto-attack with daggers which is single target. A few from each wave should allow me to get the contribution I am after, and also let everybody else get theirs.

I’ve no idea why it took me so long to realise that this could seriously be hurting other players!

Low Level DEs, and Level 80 Etiquette

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Fiennes.9568

Fiennes.9568

Sometimes, I just don’t fancy Orr for farming karma. Some parts of event chains can take a while (lots of juicy loot!) for ~330 (or thereabouts) karma. Queensdale offers much less karma per event (and loot to match), but is comparatively pretty brainless for a level 80 to do, and so I like to farm DEs there sometimes, and other zones if it takes my fancy. I can sometimes crank out a whole bunch of events in earlier zones in the time it would take me to do a single one in Orr. And no, I have not hit DR and this isn’t really a thread about it either.

All good so far.

But I’ve been feeling bad. At the “Bandits setting fire to haybales” event (first event ever for me back in the days of the beta-weekends!), I can stand near the entrance and AoE them down with 2 presses of my dancing dagger. Run back and forth, and rack up the kills. Get Gold, 230 odd karma, move on.

Although nobody has complained it suddenly occurred to me that I could well be infringing on the lower-levelled players, also there (more level appropriate than I) to gain coin, karma and XP through participation. And there I am, gunning everything down, many times before they even get a chance to get a hit in. I then realised a lot of these players may well be getting silver or worse, bronze, due to my over-zealous participation.

I repeat, nobody has complained – but I wonder therefore if I should scale back during low level events. Should I just kill 5 waves and then park myself? Would I run the risk of DR kicking in (due to a bug or otherwise), if I stopped participating. Are there any other ways around this? Are players actually being adversely affected by the presence of a level 80 nuking everything down?

Just thought I’d share this and wonder what your thoughts are.

I quite like the art-direction. Sure, you can argue back and forth about that and perhaps some of the voice acting. It’s supposed to set the scene, not provide you with a “Lord of the Rings” type experience. For what it is, it’s absolutely fine and I am personally enjoying mine.

@Pants,

It is a shame indeed that people point fingers and shout “liar” without knowing all the facts. Whilst I have yet to run in to DR myself, I acknowledge there may be bugs which may affect some people. But to just call ArenaNet liars, well – it’s pretty short-sighted. There will be fixes. And perhaps I am lucky not to have run in to it, and I tried really hard today to hit it, doing events in Queensdale over and over, moving to Sparkfly then to Straits of Devestation. All in all, several hours worth of hitting up events. My loot never changed and my karma was always “as expected”.

@gduber,

I try not to let anything in my real life affect how I treat others both in real life and in the game. I will always try and rez (provided of course, it would not be absolutely disastrous to do so… and even with that said, I’ve also been in DEs and taken risks to rez people because the more people up – the better).

Orr is quite a depressing place, but it is supposed to be from both a lore and art-direction viewpoint. It seems that this thread has many “all about me” mentality, and that’s a little sad to read.

That said, on my server (Tarnished Coast), there is a high proportion of people who will stop to help others rather than swing on by. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but from my personal viewpoint it is the exception rather than the norm.

I wish more people realised this. It always is amusing to see posts saying “X IS BORKED, FIX IT”. Well, sorry that there may be an issue with “X”… but one is not in a position, even as a customer, to tell the publisher what to do. It’s rude and childish.

And whilst i can understand some do not wish to PvP, stating “remove it from the achievement”, once again… entitlement. The game works that way, that’s the way it has been designed. And I very much doubt they threw it in there without thought. The game is based around players experiencing as much as possible and the monthly achievement is a reflection of that. Monthly Achievements are not a requirement of the game.
