Power gives u much much much more directly damage then precision. That’s why.

Grenades also give u more durability in close combat then FT: AoE-blindness every 8 sec + nearly perma chill and the fact u can deal dmg behind u = much much much more then 200 armor. lol.

Try out a classic static discharge build with net turret and riffle turret. Ot works fine for me.

That depends entirely on your playstyle.
I happen to prefer jumping up in the rush, and the Flamethrower is far more durable at that. If standing at 1200 range is your kind of thing, great. But I can do that on my Elementalist without aggravating carpal tunnel symptoms.

This upcoming WvW patch is going to unfortunately push players away from unfinished professions such as the Engineer. People are going to be focused on the meta that were actually going to go extinct. Glad that the Engineer in sPvP is fine. Apparently that’s the only place devs look at them.
The meta sucks because engi is not part of it. Enig is best in 1 vs 1, in 5 vs 5 and in zerg vs zerg – but ppl are low and play ele instead.
0-500 hours played on engineer: mimimimi engi is so weaaaak!

1000+ hours played on egni: engi is definitly op – but pssst dont tell
Grenades = 15 targets in one throw = best farming in the game. Just check if u have problems with keyboard smashing or not.

You can only check if u are a good player: if u never have problems with bad players. Because good players just compensate and move on.
Remember that greandes count as triple aoe – so up 15 targets are possible.
Engi should be able to repair siege weapons. Nothing op on this imo.
AoE-blindness and chilled would win every fight (and already win).

I disagree. Check Mask forum, his build is great, you single target down fast any other profession, have a lot of survability, and have a good fast AoE.

Engi is a lot of fun, fast responses, versatile. Obviously there’s people that don’t how to to play and engi, but don’t blame the class for it, it’s a learn 2 play issue.Tbh that is probably the worst argument ever made and it is obvious you have never played other professions at the same level. Warrior, Guardians, and Mesmers are considered “finished”, Engineer, Ranger, and Necro are yet to be finished.
I love my Engineer and its great at stuff, but for the same amount of skill and keystrokes the other classes do more.
Dano is right. Engineer has no limits compared to other classes – he can dominate everyone, even if both players have same skill: because other classes have limits. The point is, u’ll need 500+ up to 1000+ hours to train those mechanics and to master this class. Yes, I play other professions – but I can’t play them at the same level because they don’t allow me.
Engineer and guardians are zerg vs zerg winner: aoE-Blindness and chill is the key. And engi hits up to 15 targets – other classes can only blind 5 at one time. Don’t care about what ppl say, most ppl hate engi – but he is preatty fine and for zerg vs zerg there is no better range class.
If I play static discharge rifle and I go sPvP, I kill everyone. If i go tPvP, I kill everyone. If I go WvW, I kill everyone. What is your kittening problem with engi dmg?!?!
I hope they can, I really hope…. Because I left this game. I have engi, warri, thief and ele on level 80. It’s fine, engi sucks I could play other classes. But the fact they ignore one great class completly makes me leave this game.
25 Stacks AoE vulnerability, 20+ stacks AoE bleeding, AoE-posion, -burning, -immobilising, – chill,- blindness. Use +Condidtion duration whererver it’s possible.
Comparing Builds for engineer makes less sence than for any other profession. Why? Because some ppl press 5 keys in a second while moving, swaping kits so fast – u must concentrate on seeing this. Others don’t. So if an engineer, played 1000 hours+, shows a build: a new player with maybe 50 hours can’t copy paste this. Because he needs a lot of practise to play that build with the same speed. If he copy, he will suck balls with it.
This is why discussions about engineer are so difficult. Because u don’t really know on which step of engineer evolution your opponent is actually.

Also elixier builds can get perma swiftness. And if u don’t feel like spending 10 points into tools, use rune of centaure to get perma speed.
I realy don’t agree with this topic – we don’t need more speed. Maybe a charge or fast jump… but srlsy no more speed.
I totaly agree there is much to do about the engineer. But it is not that bad as ppl say. Ppl get kicked in dungon groups, because engineer is actualy not a casual gamer class and if u play engineer not hardcore – u will not be effective. I played my engineer today fractals level 22. We got another engineer in group, and I have to say: more stabile and more dmg than with 2 eles. True, we both played vulnerability and might stacking grenade build with elixiers – one of those realy rare builds which works for dungons/fractals.
But I never saw bosses going down that fast. This asura golem Tom just did one time his posion – then dead. This flying kitten of a crawl just got 2 times his shield – then dead. And even King of ascalon had his firesword maybe 5-10 seconds before dead.
The point is: As engi u have to play with about 200+ APM (actions per minute) to be effective. I came from starcraft2, so this is no problem for me, but it is a realy high APM value for an MMO.
Don’t get me wrong, there is much work to do on the engineer. If u start playing engineer, remember there are 1 or 2 builds for spvp. And also only 1 or 2 builds for wvw or dungon/fractals. Because there is so much bugged or ineffective. Sad but true story.
But! U already played some classes up to level 80. So beeing stucked in 1 or 2 builds may not be your problem. Because if u get bored about it, u will change class for a few hours/days. Don’t play engi as your main. But it is still a good, funny and destroyable class.

No imo they only play engineer. They focused on one class and are realy mad other ppl say their chosen class is weak. It’s like u got a girlfriend and u are first-love focused on her and all ppl say she is ugly and dumb.
Yes, that’s what the engi is: good enough to be useful.
We have a myriad of tools we can use? No, we must use them. We don’t have options, we are forced to do this. Engineer is a completly reaction class. But that’s not the problem. The problem is, our class doesn not forgive us any mistake, while other classes can do tons of mistakes and are still able to win.
Hmm, why do you play engineer then? I’m pretty sure there is always a class that can dps (sustain and burst) or support or do both at the same time better than engineer anyway.
I have an AH hammer guardian and the support is great along with decent damages. Why do I play a support engineer too? Because I enjoy it and it’s effective enough for the content I’m playing.
Playing a game isn’t always about min/maxing everything, it’s also to have fun. shrug
I play engineer for the same reason: fun. Engineer is the best troll-class ever created in an mmo. I love running around to hoax my enemies. But serious, support is great on engineer? I don’t belief it from the point of theorcrafting. But maybe I should give it a chance.
Dont tell that me, I did tenthousends of kills in wvw and I am sure about 6-7k were with engineer. But it is still fact that u have to outplay your enemie to win. And it is also fact, that support on engineer sucks. Running around with bombs for healing dealing maximum dmg of 1k… Other classes have same healing but are not useless doing this like engineer is.
Ofc I like my engineer, but I also play other classes. Full geared. And they are stronger (excluding ranger maybe) – in every perspective. True and sad fact. I don’t want to bad-mouth the engineer – u told u play dungons – that’s fine. PvE doesn’t need balancing like competive PvP needs.
Guardian with same effort geared is always better support and better dps.
The fact u need 2 big walls of text to explain how to heal – and at all it’s still no better heal then shout-warri, elementarist or guardian – shows the hole engineer problem: 30 key piano piece to kill an enemie. Sad but true story.
Yes it’s true. Only way to play pistols on engineer is condition damage.
With a two second bleed on your bread and butter skill that you can stack to about 4-5 before it expires?

Amen. I run a support build and I’ve never looked back. Carrying a whole team with guardian-rivalling sustain and utility is oh so satisfying. Just the other day I was farming Karka and partied up with a few randoms who were actually impressed by my build enough to stop and compliment me for running it.
And I haven’t even optimised it yet.
U never played guardian. Name this “great support” skills pls. Elixiers? Random, single, weak buff? Elixier gun? Low pulse heal – every DPS warrior does more healing… Heal Turrent? Regeneration scales bad with healing power —> overwriten to much by other classes. Healpacks? Are u srlsy running around with medipacks to heal other players? Cmon get serious.
And 1% per piece of armor?! Serious, no.
See we dont have a build that can hold its own well. Thiefs have the 24/7 stealth and instant 15,000 damage builds, warriors have thousands blades, mesmers (this is the one I see most often) is the clone spam/blurred frenzy build. If engineer still had a build that held its own in pvp then I’m sure much less of us would be complaint. Instead our only build, grenades, which people considered “op” (Which really wasn’t, it was mediocre at best) got nerfed hard every single class patch while their op builds go untouched.
I would recommend experimenting with you engineer and learning the class in pvp before complaining.

I’ve had tons of thieves jump me with the heartstrike just to waste all of their initiative on elixir s and then I just cc destroy them.

Yes, but if this thief had the same player skill u have, u would have had no chance. Elixier S identifys an engineer? Every class has escape skills… get serious.
I play a bunker engineer and so far have had many people complimenting me for the support my healing bombs build offers both in dungeons and in WoE. Are you one of those people who just looks at damage numbers first and foremost?
Well, Shouts on Warrior heal about the same amount over time and you are not completly useless standing in there with tanky hammer build which still deals more dmg then glascanone engi will ever deal.

I use Rune of the Soldier all day long and it works. So the ""bug" must sit in front of the screen. I just wanted to make sure he does not missunderstand “shouts”.

Don’t forget 40% from Rare Veggie Pizza. And yes, imo those new weapons are useful – but only to fill up usefull marks like 50% or 100%.
The point is, 20% condition duration does not give u anything: 2 sec bleeding + 20% =2,4 sec, rounded to 2,5 sec. But still 2 ticks of damage. Same with posion and burning. U need 50% or 100% additional condition duration. To reach this values – yes therefor those new weapons are great.
No he is right. Thief does 3 key-kombo to kill someone – engineer has to play 30 key-piano piece to kill someone. True story – and I still love my engi.
To add: it does not work with “shouts” from warhorn.
I changed my Build from Rifle to full condition pistol build. And imo it’s awesome. I run around with 2,1k+ ConditionDmg “bursting” down ppl with confusion and burning, posion and yes – only 3-6 stacks bleeding :-/ . But if u realy enjoy pistols try out ConditionDmg. It’s still strong!
Forestnator, can you type out your build, it sounds pretty awesome, but I’d like to see exactly what you are running. Gear, food etc. The link you posted gives me an error when I click on it.

So, my build is a WvW build. I run with knight armor and knight weapons (power/precision/toughness ), ascended back and rings with power/toughness/critDmg because CritDmg scales well on them. Other jewels are also power/precision/toughness with rubi orbs on it (power/precision/critdmg) because critdmg scales also well on orbs.

And i stack up precision before fight. Without stacks I have 42% critchance + rage (20%). With stacks it is 55%+ rage.
Whirling Axe heals up to 12000HP if u are surrounded by enemies (15 hits, every can hit 5 ppl, 75% Critchance and 66% of it does lifeleach = 50% of your hits heal 337 HP). But care about interrupts and poison! Also in smaller fights the heal is preaty well.
If u don’t wanna use buff food, take war horn instead of axe or a shiled. Maybe longbow/rifle for PvE.
Damage is preaty well, hammer does heavy dmg and the chritchance with +critdmg does awesome damage according to be a tanky CC build.
@Tequilapear: +15% stun duration is more a spvp aspect.
Nonlinear’s build is also preaty well for PvE. Just try out what fits best for u!

Basicly it’s a wvw build but I do also dungons with it. I use to take “Fear Me” instead of “On My Mark”. It’s much more usefull in wvw imo. Regenration sucks, u have to skill healpower – makes u useless apart from regeneration. Additional it overwrites weaker regeneration boons from other ppl. That makes it less effective because some classes have easy regenration boon. Anyway, no one realy needs this ticking heal: the only dmg u get ticking are conditions – better use condition remove instead of ticking heal to compensive. Rune of soldier grants condition remove from allies too – nice support apart from 1455 heal per shout – without healpower equipment which would make us useless in any other aspect.
With Pve equipment i got more than 3,4k armor, about 24k health, 30% crit chance without rage, but u always have rage with this build, so effective u have 50% crit chance – with buff food and stacked sigills I have 56% crit chance + 20% from rage. Crit dmg I got +45%. Attack is at 2950 without any might – but u always got might with this builds so effective it’s easy over 3k.
At all, powerfull attack stats, awesome deffensive stats, much CC, nice Heal from shouts also for allys and nice condition remove. Only thing sucking: no stability.
To answer your question: Yes all those adrenalin for F1-Skills. This build has -5 seconds on weapon switch – so I use F1 from sword too and my traits grant me full F1 skills any time.
