Splitting skills for PvP and PvE seems to be fine for most of you. It may not be an issue if you only play PvE. It also may not be an issue if you only play PvP.

It is indeed an issue if you play PvE and PvP and both with multiple classes. The required skill knowledge increases drastically and ends up frustrating.

Also remember how confusing and unclear this will be for new players.

Don’t think in that limited mind please: just form your point of only playing one mode.

Every class got big nerfs and big buffs already. Get over it and adjust your build.

Do EG skills work with Alchemy in WvW?

Your comparison is not 100% fair since you miss some points regarding the medic gyro:

  • instant stability when casting: this is huge at least in sPvP.
  • Super Speed actually does not only heal you with regeneration but also grant a 100% speed buff in combat. Don’t forget this!
  • Lightning field with stun; to be fair this is minor since it does interrupt more or less random
  • Protection from the toolbelt field.
  • longer waterfield which can be used for the 2 leap finishers on hammer#3 AND a blast finisher (EG#5) which means 3 extra emergency heals.

I pick medic gyro over healing turret in sPvP. I don’t mind the missing condi remove so far since we have enougth with the alchemy trait line and EG.

That’s just my point of view and also just regarding sPvP. But you are right: there is simply no reason to not immediately detonate the gyro and also I won’t pick it over the HT without FS and RR trait.

The damage of a scrapper is totally fine and on pair with other classes. The sustain heal is very good but was already nerfed last patch. It’s still nice but nothing overpowered imo.

Edit: Again, if you are in a high-tier, highly-structured zerg-blog server, then you may be right. But this is not true of mid and lower tier WvW.

im on t4 and i rarely see engis not using hammer. i think ive seen 1 rifle and maybe 2 p/p. and scrappers are not uncommon.

Anet introduced Specializations as a way of reducing the number of builds to simplify balancing in their commitment to eSports.

And no Engi runs hammer in WvW. Except, maybe, in high tier zerg-blobbing. Or those who roam looking for noob PvE’er trying for Dailies.

What else then zerging or roaming are you doing in WvW? And for roaming… Hammer builds actually superior to every other engineer weapon choice. So not only for “noob Pve’er trying for dailies” but also for competitive roaming or small scale hammer is your best choice.

Hmmm,

We used to be able to pick and choose from 5 Trait lines. Now, if we choose a Trait, we are obligated to vest in it completely. So our options are reduced. Anet clearly did this to promote eSports and make balancing simpler by reducing the number of viable builds.

The hammer makes complete sense in sPvP – but nowhere else.

Have you been playing this game long?

Edit: Do you WvW? And if so, do you use a Hammer?

O.o I played engineer for 5k hours. I just misunderstood what you mean with 3 trait lines. To be fair you expressed yourself bad here.
What has the trait line change to do with hammer btw?

I had the same issues: the range is defined with 1500 but it seems that this is only the search radius of the gyro. Means if you try to use it on an escaping target it may get out of the range. Anyway, I had issues using it also on targets within the range if they are moving away from the gyro.

I now use the gyro only in melee range. That makes the travel time short and works always for me.

I just don't get the hammer....

O.o what are talking? Melee weapons always lack in range attacks, that’s what makes them a melee weapon, isn’kitten You can easily use grenade kit, elixir gun or even flamethrower for range attacks.

With so few elixers, is the Alchemy trait absolutely necessary? I guess it only combines with EG 5 and EG toolbar skill. oh maybe acid bomb too. How do you get might in this build?

It’s 2x might for 24seconds with the 40% boon duration (traits % water runes). You get might from the EG toolbar, acid bomb, super elixir, elixir B ( minor trait) and elixir S (major trait). Plus all of those listed elixirs get a 20% cooldown reduction (toolbar and trait elixirs and EG elixirs) and a 20% duration buff (more heal ticks from super-elixir, longer regeneration from EG toolbar, longer elixir S from trait, longer boons from elixir b from traits, one more damage tick from acid bomb,…) with the HGH trait. That’s huge!

Don’t forget also your condition remove with all those listed elixirs. Most people forget the condition remove especially when it comes to acid bomb or EG toolbar!

I agree with the Utilities and traits (i have that setup exactly). im undecided between water runes and hoelbrak runes. i have been testing both.

Also i would go for sigil of blood when its fixed instead of the sigil of agility.

I was using blast gyro in season 2 and felt it was better than slick shoes in a soloq environment even before the slick shoes nerf.

Hoelbrak is for sure solid. I prefer water runes since we lose one condi remove switching from healing turret to sani gyro.
Regarding sigil of agility, I think it is a very solid sigil with rapid regeneration if you don’t have 100% swiftness uptime. It’s 7 seconds of swiftness with the boon duration from trait an runes which is 800 heal.

Bulwark gyro plus sustain heal from multiple sources plus multiple condition removes make maradeur very viable on scrapper imo.

I mentioned the change before but it was not my idea. Honestly someone else mentioned it but I don’t remember who.

From my point of view it’s a very nice change. There is close to no risk to cause some imbalance since the p/p setup does not change. Means the already stronger setup will not improve.
I am little afraid that p/s gets too strong in pvp since you anyway run the inventions trait line in most builds. P/s will be superior compared to p/p. Still, I think it would be a fair alternative to hammer. Not stronger then hammer but on pair or close to it.

Eh even if these worked with the gyro daze, it is so hard to land that it would end up being wasted most of the time anyway. Its hard enough getting them to detonate in a way that you get any use from Final Salvo.

The sigil has no cooldown and the life steal is above 1k. That’s pretty huge. Imagine running through a zero with detonating your gyros plus your hammer #5… This would give alot of procs which means thousands of life steal. But yeah, since it does not work with gyros…

Obviuosly one that can traverse terrain and actually follow the player.. gyros aren’t too hot at that. And what for? So that we can have spirit rangers 2.0? It may seem like trolling to you but i assure you my hate for ai realted specs in this game is quite sincere.

It’s actually the swiftness uptime which is given nearly 100% with the elixir b from the alchemy trait line. The regeneration from super speed is for sure not 100% up. But it sums up pretty nice especially if you use 4 gyros which is actually the meta in sPvP. Plus remember the minor trait gyros which revives/ finishes ppl. It also grants superspeed.

So I’m reconsidering Gyros. They’re pretty glitchy in terms of actually proccing on you and keeping up, and they don’t feel that effective other than their awesome toolbelt skills.

Also, how do people feel about condition damage distros? dire seems common, Viper is too expensive, is there anything else people routinely use?

Regarding gear trailblazers armor / weapon with dire or rabid trinkets should be the most solid condi setup for wvw.

Hello,

I thought it is a good idea to try Superior Sigil of Draining for WvW: it steals life when interrupting an enemy. No internal Cooldown, which is imo pretty fair since interrupting does not happen so much. Unfortunately if interrupting with a lightning field from final salvo by destroying a gyro it does not steal life.

I bet my kitten the gyro got the life steal. Which is pointless since you actually destroyed it

im a fan of traveler runes too. i was just running this and its pretty fun. in your build, drop either inventions or traveler runes. youll get more use out of either alchemy or a runeset not dedicated to move speed, because you dont need both traveler runes and mecha legs.

Right, I realize this, but I’m having a hard time deciding on a different runeset. How do you feel about Nightmare?

Also, is splitting stat types ok ever? Like, tossing in a bit of Vit cuz you want more HP?

I would advise you to get some Travelers and switch to Alchemy in lieu of Inventions. Alchemy’s passive defensive Traits are just too good to pass up.

Otherwise, it’s a great build for WvW and PvE! Can’t say for PvP because I don’t do that.

Imo there is no reason to run Adaptive Armor over Final Salvo when you run with 4 gyros. Especially with Rapid Regeneration trait too!

Understanding/optimizing condition duration

From my experience it is always both: damage and toughness. But the quantifier is different depending on the content. Raids obviously have a very high quantifier for toughness as you observed correctly.

From my experience with trailblazers/dire in fractals I can tell that I am 99% target. There are just very rare moments I see others taking the aggro.

This can be very tough sometimes. The pre boss from the molten fractal e.g. does not stop to throw fireballs at my trailblazer engineer. The boss is easier for me with viper but at least I can make sure that my team does not wipe. Also the underwater fractal endboss is incredible difficult with trailblazers. 100% the whole fight makes you need to dodge better than any zerker.

How can power scrapper lose vs reaper? You can avoid using any condition apart from vulnerability to prevent a draw back. You have alot of cc and incredible sustain heal plus enough condi remove from elixir gun and alchemy trait line.

I am running trailblazers/dire alot in fractals with pugs. Yes the aggro is huge. That’s how I can carry those bobs. If my team is fine I swap to viper/sinister.

Fractals: viper vs. trailblazer

Hello guys,

I just want to share my latest experience with high level fractals and condition gear:

I started with viper/sinister gear in fractals and it went well up to level 50. Above 50 the issues started but I was still able to play on a solid level – but not beeing able to cast my fire and confusion bomb on cooldown. However at around level 70 and above the viper/sinister gear became unplayable to me. Even with good dodges I died alot.

So I switched to trailblazer/rabid gear and I now really enjoy that gear! It feels so tanky and still deals alot of damage! I checked the DPS on the new golems and it seems like it is just about 10-12% less DPS if using trailblazers/rabid over viper/sinister.
Come one guys, that’s nothing! I am also pretty sure that it is not possible to use bombs on cooldown with viper/sinister in fractals lvl 70+. No way to get a solid rotation done without a very very nice group.

I come to the conclusion that if you don’t have a super awesome guild team, trailblazers will outdamage viper just by allowing to cast fire bomb and confusion bomb on cooldown. For me it was the best decision to change the gear form viper/sinsiter to trailblazers/rabid. But maybe I am just too noob for the glass cannon

What do you guys think? Do you succeed with viper in high level fractals? Do you have a solid guild team or do you play with pugs? How do you manage to rotate your bomb skills with viper? I am just curious

Best part is the second moa with Kinetic Battery. Tool kit adds another huge burst skill, block and magnet (! <3)
Switched away from the inventions line since the heal reset below 25% health is less worth with the new cast time of healing turret. Bunker down is a huge miss, but somehow the surviveability seems solid with tools and tool kit. Give it a try!

Scrapper or Conditions for high fractals?

Hello,

I am currently running fractals 50+ now and I wonder which gear I should focus on regarding AR. I can’t decide between power scrapper or p/p condition build (see links attached).
Power scrapper seems to bring alot more utility: stealth gyro, perma stability, stuns, party condition remove, bulwark gyro…
But the condition build seems to deal noticeable more damage! Both seem a little bit squishy to me, so I am also unsure about the gear. Shall I replace some gear with more defense gear?

You’re getting +200 tougthnes from juggernaut trait.
Anyway.. your build is bad; it doesn’t really mather which stats u get. Engineer is designed to not use autoattack but to combine all those skills from different kits to a great and powerful combination. So sitting on flamethrower will make you incredible weak. Especially flamethrower autoattack is very weak. Use bombs or better grenades for autoattack but overall try to use as less time as possible with autoattacks.

Second, do you really mention to go condition damage because of burning? It’s like going condition damage with a guardian because of burning, lol. If you want to go condition damage, u need minimum 15+ stacks of bleed plus posion and burning. You won’t get those bleedings without grenades. Flamethrower is good for switching in, using #2 and #4 and switching out of it. Nothing more.

But, if for any reason you want to play flamethrower engineer:
- please don’t join my party.
- why focus on vitality so hard? Use zerker or if you are not that experienced use knights or celestial. Yes celestial is somehow good on engineer and even allows you to switch on more effective builds later when you noticed by yourself flamethorer #1 sucks.
- Why napalm specialist? You already got overkill on burning. 100% burning will stay 100%, foes can’T burn twice! Use Modified Ammunition instead.
- Replace Elixir C with elixir gun. You will get a Condition remove with super elixir (even if it is not mentioned in the tooltips, it removes one condition on impact) and you can autoattack with your pistol/rifle/elixir gun in the light field for more physical finisher which remove conditions.

I don’t go into depth with sigils and food. Someone else can do this please.

HGH Flamethrower Outclassing HGH Rifle Builds

I currently run this and already find it to have greater DPS than the Celestial rifle HGH build currently does. Granted, atm the FT is only used for the Flame Blast as far as DPS goes and everything else is utility, but if you ambush someone they can easily go from 100-0.

It’s squishier but if you save your Elixir S for when you really need it it’s not a huge issue. With the upcoming buffs, I’ll probably just AA with FT instead of rifle now.

Current celestial rifle meta does run grenades with rifle isn’kitten So how can your dps be greater….

I’ve using elixirs/flamethrower 2/6/0/6/0 build so I do have condition removal but it doesn’t feel like I have enough, not after getting 3k+ hours on necromancer anyway.

I stopt right here.

1) EG/FT won’t kill any advanced player.
2) 3k+ on necro which has totally passiv gameplay with nearly no effort and high reward doesn’t really fit with engineers gameplay which is high effort with low reward but much more reward possible over all.

Just start with engineer meta builds and u won’t have any problems with rangers. But still with necros…

Having problem against necromancers because of their conditions? l2p issue, and that’s not up for discussion. And that’s okay, there is nothing to be ashamed off, we all started somewhere.

So, I am 50+ now and still it is just fear fear fear fear + 10000 conditions = dead. It’s not like there is anything to do if you don’t have -100% condition duration like warrior or tons of stability. Don’t tell me about stun breaker. A stun breaker doesn’t make any difference against a nec.

Engineer is pretty terrible in WvW zergs at the moment. I haven’t ran the class there in months. There’s nothing it offers that I can’t do better on my necro, warrior, ele, or guardian.

For roaming we’re still pretty good, but if I want 1v1s, I’ll do sPvP.

Engineer is the most powerful range class. Nothing hits harder then grenades. I have the same opinion as Guanglay: retal is onyl a problem for bad engineers or in really rare situations. Backline has only poor stacks of retal and should anyway be your primar target. Also stopping greandes for a few seconds is always an option. You are still more useful attacking half the time with zerker grenades then using FT or healing bombs.

I used this for awhile now and it is awesome: crazy damage on Zerg with very good surviveability through Power Wrench and Potent Elixirs. 6 sec of Stealth which recharge below 25% health and 3 sec block every 16 sec is preaty awesome.

Imo Necro is behind engineer regarding range dps. Any class is behind. Retal is a counter, yes. But just be careful and you won’t get killed by it. In 100 Zerg fights I get killed maybe once by retal. That’s fine.
