Essentially it is like most kits: You pop in to use the appropriate skill, and then pop out to your main offense.
That’s exactily how engineer works, how I use rifle, pistols, shield. The point is: if u buff the weaopns on engineer – maybe people who don’t get or don’t want to get how to play with engineer will become better and maybe competitiv. But: for those who already behind those mechanics engineer would change to the most overpowered class in theri hands.
Anyway, a sigthly buff on harpoon #1 could work. But #2-5 are definitly fine. Okay not fine compared to any necro build. But that’s another topic.

I dont say harpoon #1 is fine. It is horrible indeed. But harpoon at all is fine. And engineer under water is a beast, everyone else talking he is weak for under water content… sorry this must be troll.
It’s an usual SD build. But celestial is not worth it. You waste healing power and condition damage for sure. Better use zerker or mix it up with knights.
After question 1) :
Waste of time to explain anything… if engineer was bad for u at start, then he is still bad.
Grenades were the highest damage source in the game before the nerf october/november. But They fixed this early so casuals never saw it.
It takes almost no skill to fight an Engineer underwater and the only saving grace for us is that most people do infact have no skill when fighting underwater. Cant blame em, its an unbalanced mess best avoided alltogether.
But as i said earlier, just because you can beat on unskilled players that dont even know what their own profession can do underwater, let alone someone else’s, doesnt mean something is working fine.
So please add me ingame and we try out some under water duells. Let’s see if you can avoid me. I will record it to prove my statement.
You dont fight an Engineer underwater by hugging him. You fight him at 600-1200 range where all his attacks are super easy to avoid without even having to use dodge. And you can easily see the pulls comming that you can avoid them.
Number 4 is the only reliable damage on the Speargun. number2 is stupidly easy to avoid, if you get hit by the full burst of this ability you are basicly letting it happen. Thats the equivalent of letting a 100B warrior walk upto you, not bullcharge but walk, and then 100b you to death as you stand there eating it.
Just because those people exist that let that happen doesnt mean its good.
You miss the point. You can always avoid engineers skills. On land and under water. This class is designed to slow ppl down before bursting them. And this class has enougth opportunities.
Additional, why ppl always talk about “avoid everything”? You can’t simply avoid eveything. I don’t know what game you are playing or maybe my playstyle is much more superiority but you definitly can controll enemies movement making him “avoid everything” until he – not long time until this – can’t avoid anymore.
Maybe I just haven’t found the right build, but my engineer in general feels weaker underwater than my other characters, and the speargun is a major part of that.
What?? From all my experiences and all I have heared from other engineers under water it is the most kittening awesome class there which totally excels . Speargun #2 and #4 are crazy burst skills, speargun #5 is a great fight opener an slow down for grenades. Really – only speargun #1 sucks. Swapping a lot is – as always- the key
I never, never felt such strong under water even with mesmer.
As most auto attacks on engi harpoon #1 is weak, yes. But his is part of the class design. I don’t see any viable auto attack apart from bomb #1 which is worth using it. If I play my engineer, 9 of 10 hits are not auto attack. And I am preaty sure I do it very right. This is how engineer works.
Healing turret + super elixir + tool kit toolbelt skill = 4 condition removes with meadium cd.
I use healing turret, Elixir gun and backpack regenerator. Gear is full celestial which adds 500 healing power (including one infusion) to my stats.
My basic hps (healing per second) is 720 +0,312 (rounded) which means + 155,8 hps from 500 hp. That’s not weak. It’s preaty strong. Engineer has some of the highest hps value over all and withit healing power is not wasted.
Engineers class mechanic makes u to use as less auto attacks as possible. There is simply no single reason to do any auto attack except of bomb or grenade auto attack. You got tons of skills with your kits. Use them.
Perma vigor, double pistols with rampager gear, greandes, elixir gun + elixir R for more dodges worked for me. I did 8 crystals with it.

I may just give one single important hint:
9 /10 of my attacks are not autoattack. Engineer auto attacks are middle /low damage. Only bomb auto-attack is worth it. Just fill your time with skills apart from auto-attack and youa re on the right track.

U can’t counter engineer with thief – sorry bro.
To oversimplify things. Having the option to run as a 30% Ele, 30% Guard, 30% Ranger hybrid doesn’t justify the last 10% being taken out from every Engineer in the game.
Maybe it’s just me, but I am 150% Ele, 60% Guard and 150% Ranger at the same time.
I do I just can’t understand what they could offer to the team that other classes couldn’t.
Engineer can do everything other classes can, but all at the same time – making him to the most useful class.
You need a guardian to buff your team and heal them up? No you don’t u got engineer. U need shout Warri/Guardian for Condition remove? no u don’t u got an engineer. You need range dps? No you don’t u got engineer. You need thief for mass invisible? No you don’t, u got an engineer. You need thief for pull? No u don’t.
Engineer really can do everything other classes can do. And that’s the reason you should prefer the engineer. Just warriors dps is one exception – but still there: HGH zerker grenadier comes most close to warriors dps from all classes.
So yes, I am always confused why engineer is not generally accepted – there is simply no reason why. But you know, people are slow.
I’ve got people lefting the party before even starting Aetherblade Retreat cause they thought it wasn’t possible to get the 15 minute achievement with an engineer. Guess it kinda says enough.
And i had already got that, anyway; with a sturdier party…cause the important part in that fight was having sustained dps and not people agonizing on the floor every 10 seconds.
Seriously I did that dungon about 20 times and always – ALWAYS – got the 15 minute achievment. This is ridiculous, after 10 months most people still have no clue about engineers. So ignorant… grrrrr!
Most top hard core EU WvWvW guilds do not accept medium armor professions. They might sometimes use thieves as scouts, providing blast finishers and doing stealth stomp, placing traps etc. But rangers and engineers are not wanted in WvWvW.
Reroll, run solo or become a commander yourself. ;-)

1) tool kit
2) flamethrower
3) rocket boots
Depends also on your personal playstyle.
Gear: Celestial works very well: u got awesome party heal with healing turret and elixir gun. Also grenades deal good direct and condition damage. Defensive stats are welcome too in wvw. A mix of zerker /knights with rifle works too or rabbid with pistols.

a) cof is no pve – it’s a kitten d dungon. Plus, I got 2 legendarys and enougth gold for one more but not even one stack cof tokens. So this is not a problem of the game – it’s problem of simpleton community.
b) engineers are right behind warriors dps with zerker hgh grenades.
c) so much more to say, but to keep it short: your field of vision seems very limited – maybe you should not judge about any class so naive. Every class has some guys who realy mastered their clas and who are able to be very very effective in pve content also. Again, cof is no pve – it’s a kitten d dungon.
d) PvE does not have to be balanced.
I run rifle/cc with celestial – pve, pvp and wvw. It works fine for my build.
In my opinion pvp is well balanced atm. Name another game which is more balanced pls.

I play every class in pvp and I feel well with everyone. Every class has their weak sides and their strong sides. I never feel helpless or useless.
Again: name one current game which is more balanced in pvp then gw2. I don’t know a game. Because Gw2 is well balanced right now – not perfekt but still in a good state.

i know some people who’ve thrown like 1000 rares in forge and no precursor. some people have started playing like few months ago and thrown couple rares in forge and got several precursors.
Why ppl still think 1000 rares are much? If you throw in 1000 rares and get a precursor, than you are a very lucky guy. Chances are around 2600 rares into the forge (on average!)

Pressing FT#1 all day… You know that this is one of the weakest ways to play engineer? I totally understand why the community does still ignore engineers after 10 months.
Fury is only 5 sec – it’s viable but … yeah 5 sec.
4x Altruism is a viable choice – 3 stacks might for u and your mates every time u use healing turret. Also 15% boon duration is imo better then 20% might duration in PvE (PvP onyl 10% boon duration on runes available).
Also Divinity Runes fit well but aren’t cheap.
Happend once to me too – Now I always try to open instance with pugs .

a) Prybar in his face and go afk desktop.
b) if he seems to be a good thief: prybar in his face plus random skill spamming.
A good thief does… blabla. There are 2 big ways to beat any thief:
1) mass CC, don’t even let him do anything until he is dead.
2) mass conditions
Engineer can do both.
Where is your damage kit?
Damage kits: Grenades, Bombs
Utility Kits: FT, Tool Kit
Support Kits: EG.
For anyone who is still wondering about chances:
One in 5 trys with rares give back an exotic on average.
One in 130 exotics is a precursor on average (=650 trys with 4 rares = 2600 rares)
So far my numbers – I noted more then 9k trys ( more then 36k rare items) and got 14 precursor so far.
