Human nature I guess to have tunnel vision in these types of games. People don’t look at the end result of any changes.

Example. Class A has a rating of 8. Class B has a rating of 6. So class A is stronger. How to fix ? You could buff class B to get to 8. Now both classes are the same. ..or, you could nerf class 8 down to 6. Now both classes are the same.

What’s the difference ?

These game developers need to do a little sleight of hand to fool the whiners. Buff one class and make them 10% stronger. Buff another class by 20%. At the end of the day, the class that got “boosted” 10% is happy….even though in practical terms they actually got nerfed.

Uhh, sorry, but no. You win because you can raise armies for three maps all at the same time that are as large or larger than what we can raise for one map. Skilled roamers don’t take towers and keeps, and they don’t carry enough supply for siege.
Sorry, but we all have skilled players, but that doesn’t necessarily win WvW like it does PvP.

EB wins because they know there is such a thing as a seige merchant. BP considers seige merchants are similar to Santa Claus and the tooth fairy…all make believe.

EB also dominates in supply wars…including yaks. They also believe in defending and responding to attacks. Call out that a tower is under attack in BP and you likely will get the response …“don’t worry, we will take it back later” ..the karma/xp train ftw !

So yea, likely EB has a bigger WvW population (would be fairly equal if the BP fair weathers returned from PvE), and is better in the open field. That’s not the main reason they win. See ^^^above.

Slow and steady changes…evaluate…rinse/repeat. Anet does a pretty good job with that. The only time I disagreed with a change they made was when they increased reveal for Thieves + fixed culling the same patch. Even though I hate Thieves you never want to do two changes to one thing (stealth). Makes it hard to evaluate fairly.

Please don’t take this as an insult, but perhaps you are running into better players that are more comfortable with the smaller engagements than you are? It may not be the build but that in zergs you have quite a buffer there of people to hide behind so any mistakes you make are not as glaringly obvious.

Pretty much spot on. I have said many times. Really good players could go into WvW without armor and still do well. Player ability > Build

That said, for some of us who have to work at it. The difference between a win and a loss is razor thin. Sometimes when i get on a roll and feel indestructable I end up losing a fight I should have won. Then after the fight I realized I forgot to do a number of things that were serving me well in previous fights.

Plumbers like me can’t lose focus !

The “elite” guilds all end up imploding with drama and infighting. Same old same old.

Agree it is annoying. Especially with what we faced yesterday defending a tower vs an Ele. We had ACs in the middle, well out of range of AoEs. The Ele would stand far away, target the player manning the AC, then come in close to the base of the wall. Then proceeded to spam Dragon Tooth over and over with zero los.

Defending should be easier to do damage than attacking. ..which isn’t the case in GW2

I am amazed that there are BP players on here that don’t realize that EBay is dictating the score, maybe not intentionally, but that’s what is happening. Yes BP gained a 10K lead on AR yesterday, but do you think it may have something to do with the ARBL being half red and half green all day yesterday? I thought it was Christmas for a while. And if Ebay had decided to do that to BPBL, then you would see the opposite. I really can’t believe that there are some BP players that don’t get that.

I agree EB dictates pretty much everything that happens on this tier. They are likely a tad bored.

Still, what do you think will happen to the score if BP turns AR red (or as red as they can) …and EB turns BP green…while keeping their BL intact ?

I noticed you also used cats at times. I am using Fern + Hyenas atm but was thinking of switching out Fern for Panther to have a little more burst at times …plus the bleeds.

I also like the idea of Hyenas + Wolf fear which combines for a lot of CC

lol so very true….and sad. What is surprising is a few of the Anet staff say they are from Daoc. If so they would remember Daoc had the same problems with WvW XP. They made adjustments so you did get good XP from healing etc. They even worked on a system to spread the XP out when killing someone. You got much more XP when you killed someone solo as compared to being part of a 10v1 kill.

Guardian gets hit. A Ranger rarely gets hit.

Wall fighting the defenders should have the advantage. They don’t in GW2.

Despite all the trash talking a couple of things are pretty clear.

1. EB and BP are not in the same weight class. EB has bigger zergs……better strategy ….better small man groups….better at siege…far far better at defense (BP are the karma/xp kings). Pretty obvious EB is bored. Like a cat playing with a mouse. Turning the map green at rollover was very impressive.

2. AR reminds me of a slightly stronger NSP. NSP tactics ? They use a dart board to choose their next target. Numerous times the past couple of weeks it seems like AR has borrowed the dart board. Either that or it is true they are EB lapdogs.

This is a tough tier for BP and AR. EB should be in a higher tier. Unfortunately when they move up, the server that moves down would also be too strong for the tier. BP is too good for the lower tier. A bit of a catch 22 for both BP and EB.

Tad confusing. I don’t recall many complaints about Thieves in tPvP. I don’t recall any complaints saying Thieves were OP in PvE. I do recall hundreds of complaints about Thieves in WvW.

Anet confuses me at times.

Great idea

After a month of solo roaming in WvW I have finally decided on my weapons. LB + Sword/Sword …(still thinking of Mace/Sword but that needs playtime testing).

During a fight I use LB likely 70% of the time. I stack bleeds + Rip with the swords then do a little kiting plinking away while I set up Pin/Arcing Arrow.

I adjusted my build a bit to fit these weapons but haven’t done much with my equipment. Before spending any cash I would like some suggestions on how to tweak the equipment and accessories …and build for that matter.

Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

1. Grey out names for dead players
2. Leader icon colors….especially add guild leader color.
3. Even though WvW “rewards” are anything but, at least reward other game play styles as much as zerging.

I think there are plenty of viable builds for each class. The problem is people either don’t experiment or there is 1-2 that make the other viable builds look bad. Trust me this happens in all games. It very hard to create several viable builds without 1 or 2 being that much more viable.

Agree. Someone comes up with a build…promotes it, and the sheeple lap it up. Then someone else comes up with a new angle and creates a new build…and the sheeple change over.

I’ve tried the build with similar gear in NA Tier 1 with mixed results. I chalk that up to me still developing after transitioning from a keyboard to an Orbweaver.

This build would get absolutely wrecked by any condition focused spec… which are abundant.
It also seems that the majority of the people in the video are either up-leveled or just suck (little dodging, little mobility).

This is the Hammer + Sword/WH build I utilize for WvWvW.
The primary factors I considered when making this build were:
1. Use in Zerg, Group Roam, and Solo Roam
2. The Bane of the Warrior’s Existence: Conditions
3. Support brought to allies

Quick Note: Shout builds are pretty good for WvWvW. Don’t confuse this for PvE. In PvE, conditions are a nuisance at worst. In WvWvW, conditions touch you in dirty places and make you want to cry.

Strengths of this Build
1. In a Zerg (Swap in Longbow for Sword/WH)
This build really shines in Zergs for many reasons. FGJ provides might and fury (+30% boon duration also) to 5 people.
With 3 shouts, you are healing 25 conditions (5 per person, max of 5 people) and healing approximating 20k health every 21 seconds. (1,323 health per shout x 3 shouts [average CD 21] x 5 people).
You’re no dedicated healer, but that 20k per 21s really adds up in Zerg fights (especially defense). Add in the fact that these heals are instant and can be used regardless of your state and you’ve just increased your survivability by a great deal.

With a plethora of heals and good timing, you can plunge into the enemy Zerg w/ a burst, #3, #4, #5, and get right on out of there. Roots, knockdowns, and conditions are not nearly as threatening. If you’re not that great at this yet, then stick with a Longbow, F1 burst followed by a #3, and watch the loot bags pile up at your feet.
Just remember, the Warrior is the backbone of a Zerg thanks to the lovely hammer.
Also, 30% boon duration to all boons that are applied to you

2. In roaming parties (Hammer + Sword/WH)
This build shines here as well. This build allows you to supply your team with:
-Permanent 3~6 stacks of Might
-Fury nearly 50% of the time
-Swiftness and VIGOR via War-horn
-Large amount of stuns/immobilizes
-25 condition removals + 20k healing every 21s (5condition + 4k heal per person).
-10% increase in party DPS to a high priority target (On my Mark)
-You get 30% extra duration on all boons you apply and that teammates apply to you

This makes your party a thousand times more lethal. Those annoying condition specced class are not as much of a threat freeing up some utilities for your party.
Even though 4k per 21s does not seem that much, look at it like an instant bonus, not a primary heal. It adds 4k to your normal heals and at a much faster rate. It significantly increases the survivability of your overall party.

Now include your stuns and immobilizes and your party will love you. Initiating with Sword #2 then #3 (trait causes immobilize on cripple) to trap a target that is luring, or a high priority target. Swap out to Hammer and smash away. #3 (AoE cripple = AoE immobilize) absolutely destroys enemy roamers. #4 to protect reviving teammates and #5/F1 to throw people to the ground.

Remember, do not just spam your shouts as soon as they are up

3. Solo Roaming
Same benefits, but not as much since they only apply to yourself.
To start it off, my favorite aspect of this build when solo roaming is the 30% boon duration. 39s of swiftness + WH swiftness = perma swiftness. This is an absolutely incredible advantage to any fight.
It is important to remember that you are NOT a lethal instant killer. You draw out fights and you wear down the enemy.

Perma-swiftness, 5 condition removals, 4k instant heal + healing surge, high levels of vitality/toughness, tons of immobilize/stuns, weakness (WH #5, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS APPLY THIS!!!) make you one of the most annoying opponents to face.

What I do is wear the opponent down to around half health and then burst them (#3, #5, #4, F1, etc.etc…) and it will almost always take them out.

Zerging is rewarded = zergs. It’s not rocket surgery.

Another 100% agree. The good thing is Anet only has to deal with 8 classes. Three different gamestyles = 24 classes need balancing. Many of them only need tweaks.

The first company that realizes and balances accordingly will have much success.

As mentioned in other posts. Been through this a few times in regards to stealth. I said a few months ago the nerf bat was coming. I see more changes coming. Anet needs to realize they have 3 separate games going on and adjust accordingly.

PvE – Thieves need a boost and/or a niche
PvP – Thieves need a slight…very slight boost
WvW – Thieves need another nerf..small, but still a nerf

First point. To those Thieves that post …“If you make the Thief run away, then haven’t you won ?” Answer : No.

Yes, Thieves are stronger than most classes 1v1. Yes, I can beat Thieves. If the player controlling the Thief is equal to, or better than me, he will win. I think they are a tad too strong, especially the things a very skilled player can pull off. I will reevaluate my opinion when I get back from vacation and test out the changes installed on the 26th.

Mesmers on the other hand ? On both my Ranger and newly 80 Warrior when I bump into a Memser I disengage and leave the fight. I am 1 for 129 vs Mesmers and the only one I beat was afk…and it was still a close fight.

Many good points listed comparing the two games. Overall I think GW2 is much more polished compared to daoc 6 months in. GW2 PvE >>>>Daoc

PvP ? It pretty much comes down to playstyle preference. (talking about WvW). I find GW2 promotes…and rewards zerg playstyle more…even more after WvW titles were introduced.

I really enjoyed soloing/duo in Daoc and picking off people trying to get to the battle. GW2 really lacks that. It is very difficult to find that type of fight. I am not saying DAOC didn’t have zerging, far from it…..but it did give more opportunities to be able to play small ball…more so than GW2

I didn’t bother with setting up the underwater skills sin this build doesn’t work underwater. Also, the pets are subject to change. I prefer pets with a lot of cc. Controlling the fights is a huge part of winning, and these builds have plenty of cc. I use rabid gear for this build, but many people also use carrion instead. It really depends on your playstyle.

Looks very interesting for a PvP scenario. Not sure about WvW without either Hunt or Warhorn. I would feel very vulnerable going out as a solo roamer with no speed.

Every single profession forum looks exactly like this one. Id even go so far as to say that the same applies for every MMO I have ever played. I think its some victim mentality, or something. The ranger needs some work, but from day 1, I have never felt it was as weak as implied. The same goes for every class. I mean, go look in the ele forums, the warrior forums, etc. All of them likely have at least one thread a page that are complaining about how weak the class is. I think sometimes people try too hard to make a class that doesnt jive with them.. jive with them.

I have found this build to be very effective in all encounters in WvW and PvE. The only time it falls short is when I get swamped by 10+ people since there arent many escape options. Yes, I still die in some 1v1, but I also win some 1v5 and everything in between. I also find fantastic group utility, and tend to be a major force multiplier through skills like healing spring and even elixir of heroes. The most important part about this build though, is that I designed it specifically around me and how I play. While I found your typical BM specs effective, they didnt work with my brain (for lack of better words :P ), so for me, they were considerably less effective.

I find that in personalizing builds, I can complement my own weaknesses and strengths through the character. The downside is that it can also take significant amounts of time to slowly whittle away what works best for me personally. I take immense enjoyment in that process, but it definitely doesnt appeal to everyone.

Good post. I agree most game forums end up this way. It is never a surprise that devs stop posting in them. No win for them to do so.

Good point though about 5 points in BM. Still, those build don’t “rely” on 2 seconds of haste every 15 ? seconds traited. Warriors totally relied on frenzy in their builds. Bull Rush>frenzy>HB or whatever other combo they used. Warriors…and Thieves, have always been more reliant on burst.

QZ nerf ? I would suggest that the quickness nerf hit Warriors harder than us….since a higher percentage of Warriors had it on their bar than Rangers had it on their bar. Go read their forums. They whine almost as much as Rangers.

Thiefs also relied heavily on haste….again, more than Rangers did. Plus they got another second added to stealth reveal timer+ culling fix will also hurt them in WvW.

A haste nerf across the boards does not mean it effects Rangers more than any other class.

Add in the GS buff…and it rocks now. overall after this patch Rangers are ahead of where they were a couple of days ago.

So everyone in the pity party can relax. Although no matter what happens in any patch you’re going to find something to whine about. Says you, and* who are you again?* Yes the nerf hurt everyone but it killed a ranger build that was bad already. A trap build is now the only build that is any good at all and I hate that play style. I started playing in October and my main is a Ranger. I WvW 90% of the time and pvp maybe 5%. I am average at best and still win more than I lose. I have watched many many great Rangers in WvW pummel people….using a variety of different builds, so no, a trap build isn’t the only build that is “any good”

Absolutely Rangers have some things that need to be tightened up and adjusted. I don’t think many disagree with that. Too say that they are totally kitten is laughable.

You don’t have to be in peoples faces with a SB/GS. You can still kite with SB and pets. It’s nice to know that when you do actually have to melee now, that you can hit back pretty darn hard now. Then get back to kiting when CDs are up…or not.

Seriously, everyone should try another class. I got my Warrior to 80 yesterday. Went out roaming in WvW and came across a solo Ranger two different times. I got completely smoked. One was a great kiter and I barely got a hit on him. The other also kited but I got in more damage. Still lost.

Then I realized that most Warriors are fodder for my Ranger. I would estimate I win 80% of the time vs them…..and I am average at best. The grass isn’t always greener.

( I don’t include Mesmers or thiefs in that statement)

To someone above who asked if the community should or shouldn’t complain. Go read the rest of the class forums. Warriors apparently are all quiting because of the haste nerf. Thiefs are all quiting because of the haste and stealth nerf.

QZ nerf ? I would suggest that the quickness nerf hit Warriors harder than us….since a higher percentage of Warriors had it on their bar than Rangers had it on their bar. Go read their forums. They whine almost as much as Rangers.

Thiefs also relied heavily on haste….again, more than Rangers did. Plus they got another second added to stealth reveal timer+ culling fix will also hurt them in WvW.

A haste nerf across the boards does not mean it effects Rangers more than any other class.

Add in the GS buff…and it rocks now. overall after this patch Rangers are ahead of where they were a couple of days ago.

So everyone in the pity party can relax. Although no matter what happens in any patch you’re going to find something to whine about. Hell you could win a million dollars in the lottery and still whine because of all the taxes you are charged. If you’re gonna quit, then quit. Send Anet a parting farewell and be on your way.

yep, Maul is terrific now. It hits very hard and the CD is short so you can use it quite often.

Edit: In fact during WvW yesterday I had a nice 1v1 against a Warrior. He had blown his HB so I decided why not, lets go toe to toe with him. My GS + Panther at minimum was a draw damage wise vs his GS.
