First step would be to make “Heavy” armor actually mean something. Damage mitigation because of armor is nowhere near where it needs to be for heavy armor.
…… *By the way, about 1vs1 fights. Only a brain dead warrior will go directly 1vs1 anyone. *……You have to use your brain, u have to you your cc, and when the oppurtunity shines u finish ur opponent off. ..
How sad is that. Warriors have to be cautious to avoid a 1v1 fight because they are famous in all games for being frail and squishy. Brutal
Some good info. Tagged for later use.
100% agree. The timer is far too short. You end up handcuffed to the tower you built it in. Even 1 hour would be a nice improvement.
Good idea to tie it to the outmanned buff.
I like A/S. As asked earlier though, what type of WvW. You will need to be grouped with someone in WvW with this build.
Any response you get means zero if they give you advice without knowing exactly how you plan on playing.
I was looking for some solo and some small group play, I was aiming at being able to solo supply camps!
As much as I like all the weapons I don’t think you can pull off solo with it. You have almost zero mobility…..no weapon movement and swiftness only 50 % of the time (if you use SoR).You won’t be able to catch anyone or run away from zerg….which is why I support the theory that Warriors need a 3rd weapon set !
I can easily solo supply camps with Ranger. Haven’t been able to do it with Warrior yet without kite pulling. A bit of a glassy build you are going to use. Be interesting to see you pull it off soloing a camp.
Got it, so the build could be ok duelling wise but out in the open in WvW others will run away and run me down with ease :/
By the way what build would you use to solo camps (warrior and ranger)?
For Ranger, regen build…either Power or condition depending how I feel. Either way I still pull out axe/torch for the fight plus 2 drakes. Torch aoe, axe aoe, drake aoe +entangle aoe kills the camp fairly fast.
Warrior ? Haven’t found a clean and efficient way to do it yet
…and open to suggestions !
Some of you are very very good at complaining. No matter what Anet does the negative nancies come out of the woodwork. The old system ? =sucks. The new system ?= sucks. No legitimate suggestions how to make it better…just complain.
Some of you could win 5 million in the lottery. Happy ? Nope, you would complain about the high taxes you have to pay.
Complaining for the sake of complaining is a sad way to go through life.

To all the naysayers that hate the idea and say there will be horrible matchups. How about show us what you think would be fair matchups. (that are different than they are now). ……..hint: It can’t be done
To whoever made the point about looking for fun, and not worrying so much about winning and losing. I agree 100%. Especially if the matchups change every week.
That is the problem with the current system. It removes all hope when you play the same servers 3 months in a row.
Props to Anet for trying to liven things up. The problem is, nothing they do can overcome human nature.
Any system that tries to matchup servers, that in theory are similar in strength, will eventually fail. Any system relies on the potential of a particular server. Once that server faces any kind of adversity, human nature kicks in and the fairweathers pack their sacks. Either they log out or scamper to pve. The server that is actually having some success in the matchup not only keeps their original WvW population, they also add the bandwagoners.
So a potential fairly even matchup turns into a blowout. I don’t see any solution that can overcome that obstacle.
A handicap based on realtime population will resolve this. At the moment we are scratch but if camps, towers and keeps were worth different rates based on the actual population this would mean that things could stay fairly equal, maybe this is where they will head but you need data by playing everyone in your league to come up with the handicap.
Tad hard to understand what you are saying but I will give it a try.
So if populations are equal at a particular time of the day. A supply camp is worth say 1000 points….but if server B only has say 60% of the population at a particular time of day, then that supply camp could be worth say 1400 points ?
A lot of variables would be needed to be fine tuned for something like this to work. Does Anet have the ability to apply minute to minute real time changes for each server in a matchup ?
Well , sigh just sigh.
I had lots of confidence in the changes you had made to the game arenanet until now, this is simply going to be zerg fest rolling over under prepared servers that neither have the coverage or population to deal with it, untill it becomes zergs vs doors.
Incredibly bad move.
What exactly would you suggest to solve the stagnant 2 month matchups that are occuring now ?

What are you building for ? tPvP…sPvP….PvE….WvW solo…WvW team etc etc ?
12 pages of comments, and no one can agree on anything…. the playerbase is too divided to come up with a viable solution. At this point, why even bother trying to fix what seems to be broken, if we can’t even agree on the best way to fix it?
Not exactly. It is two things
1. non Thieves complaining about Thieves
2. Thieves supplying disinformation trying to muddy the waters to prevent the corrections that are coming. Common tactic of someone trying to keep the status quo.
Don’t believe that there is any secret tactic to kill a thief. Look at thief videos he even doesn’t have to dodge your AoE. All you can do is to spam your skills and run/dodge like a blind man. By the way, this the stupidest thing I’ve ever experienced in any game.
Bunker build at last have a chance to avoid framing thieves, anybody else have no chance to survive.
This is your 38th reply in here . I think everyone already understood that you can’t with thiefs, if tou keep posting over and over people will think that’s an obsession. Maybe if u spent the time u are on this thread in game, you would probably be able do deal with thiefs by now. Who knows.
Exactly.
If thieves are a problem for you in wvw then you are doing one of three things: 1.) You are being afk. 2.) You have some terribad spec. 3.) Your gearing is wrong.
I’m not going to tell you what a good spec or good gear is. I’ll give you a hint though; if a thief is anything more than an annoyance, you’re doing it wrong.
It might be different in spvp or something, I don’t care. This is the WvW forum.
Has it ever occured to you that when you are playing your thief, and any other class is more than an annoyance, you’re doing it wrong ?
Same old cliches being used over and over. L2P ..get some skills n00b ….roll a thief and practice etc etc. Those comments all completely miss the point.
There are more players that can’t deal with a thief than those that can. New players especially. They buy the game, level to 80 and head to WvW to check it out. They bump into a Ranger and lose the fight. They got a few hits in and thought it was fun. They head right back out and bump into a Necro. They chase him around, gets a few hits in but still dies. Share the experience with guildies. Has a good laugh. Heads out again and wham…dead. WTF ? Doesn’t even see what hit him or have a chance to react. Hrmm, that wasn’t fun.
Heads out again. Same thing. A invisable enemy takes him out in 4 seconds, then taunts him till he releases. Definitely not fun.
Now that player has a decision to make. Put the time in to get better, or not participate in WvW. Even when he gets better, and can at least somewhat compete vs Thieves, it’s still not fun. Win or lose, for most people, it’s not fun fighting an enemy that can constantly go invisable.
Most people can handle losing. They know they will never be the best player but still have fun. Thieves suck the fun right out of WvW. Daoc went through the same thing when released. Stealth was way overpowered but they eventually fixed it. I think anet realizes it also and will slowly make the changes to correct their flawed version of stealth.
I trust tooltips as much as my local politician.
yep. Good value for my dollar so far.
Lol! Figure it out pro! I’m not telling you kitten.
Without even knowing what you play, I bet I could pwn you 1v1 any day.
Simply because the champs have nothing to hide, they know if their foe discovers a weakness to exploit, they will always think of a counter.
The response of players such ad yourself give away your skill level, sadly.
I wish you good luck nonetheless
You just pwned yourself…and likely don’t even realize it.
I wish you good luck nonetheless.
Anet has done a good job. The strange thing is people won’t really appreciate all the little things in the game until they play another game. Then they will realize it when they don’t have it. Mad rush to to the forums to complain about the new game while saying ..well GW2 did it this way !
Healing shouts warrior is just bad.
You are a warrior and other classes envy you because you can farm cof p1 lika a boss.I love my warrior. In fact i dont have any other lvl 80. Im getting close to 1700h. I think i have some mental disorder.
Now that made me laugh
Depends what game you prefer to play. Pve ..PvP ..WvW.
Go against the grain. Make an Engineer. They scare the kitten out of me now. My last couple of fights I died so fast I had no idea what hit me. Actually thought a thief might have backstabbed me during the fight it happened so fast…but nope, it was all Engineer
Tricks I wish I knew at launch:
Tagged for future reference. Very cool website.
What if they changed camps, towers and keeps to only start giving points every tick after a server has successfully held them for atleast 30 minutes? This would mean that zergs can’t just flip towers and keeps and forget about it, and they would need to leave some defenders behind to secure their points, as such splitting up their zerg a bit.
Opinions?
That is actually a pretty good idea. Problem is the community would have a hissy fit. They prefer that gameplay style. Take towers/keeps pvd, then move on to next tower. Meanwhile the enemy follows you and recaptures the tower you just took. Rinse/repeat.
I am a fairly new Warrior of a couple of months. Mostly I try to solo roam in WvW. Your post pretty much nails my exact thoughts of the Warrior. Like you I am constantly trying to figure out the perfect combination of weapons. It really is an unsolvable paradox. Believe me, being kited is a major problem.
I also agree with your description of solo encounters with your Warrior. It’s like a 16 year old with his first chick….it’s over in 10 seconds. If you don’t catch a break with a nice stun or a big crit, and finish off the enemy, you will likely die.
When I face a Warrior with my Ranger now I feel bad killing him. Some fights the Warrior won’t even hit me once…and I kinda suck. Would be even worse vs a good Ranger.
Dunno what the solution is.
Recent video,
Enough said.
The Joke is on us, non-Stealth players.
What’s new?
Absolutely Nothing
Obviously the zerg getting supplies need to L2P. I see nothing wrong with a solo player walking into a middle of a zerg…standing there for 3 seconds getting blasted by aoes. Then simply stealthing away. Seems legit.
I just don’t find the Stealth mechanic fun, and avoid fighting Thieves as much as possible because even if I win I don’t really feel like a “Winner.”
So, you are dislike most of MMOs right? Coz every single … MMO have stealth classes!
So, stop playing MMO or try to find one without stealth.BUT STOP … RUIN OUR GAME!
I have nothing against stealth. Daoc stealth was fine after they adjusted it. WoW stealth was fine after they adjusted it. GW2 stealth will also be fine when they finish adjusting it.
(edited by Forzani.2584)
Another day with the setup and I still haven’t decided if this works for me ….not because it is a bad build..but because my skill level might not be high enough. It is fun though
I noticed that classes I easily beat before with range, like Necros, can be a problem now since I have to chase them around. Same thing with Rangers. Guardians are also tougher now since you can’t kite. Warriors no difference. Mesmers seems a bit easier. Ele about the same. Thieves I still have a problem with and Engineers I don’t even try without a ranged attack. Taking supply camps solo is a no go for me. I switch to A/T for that….the bad thing is I lose stacks on pets since jag doesn’t last in that fight so I need to load another pet before fight.
I did win a couple of 1v2 quite handily and seemed easier than ranged spec.
To be determined !
I would say you guys would probably do better than us CD in T4. You guys have a far bigger NA while we have lost our night guilds to TC.
Honestly, I think a match between, CD, SBI, and Ebay would be awesome. Too bad we’ve never gotten the chance. Always a T3 server in there with us.
But, awesome job tonight CD, I seen you were kicking kitten up there.
Seriously, EB would do more than fine 1 tier up. They are ready.
Like to see them face off against a solid T3 server and see how well that bravado holds up.
We’d welcome it. The thing Ebay wants more than anything is a challenge, and while this double team is providing a bit of one, it’s not enough for us. We’re masochists, you have to grind us into the ground and make us lose horribly to give us what we want.
Initially we’d be all RAWR and we got this and fighting our hearts out. But then after half a week of being nightcapped and rough battles during the day our pugs would stop playing and we’d go from losing pretty badly to losing terribly badly and things would get significantly less competitive and thus a bit less fun.
You’d have stalwarts like me who’d still be there mixing it up, just like I did In the old days when most of our pugs gave up on us, but it’d be ugly.
Skimming your comment I was anticipating it being written by a BP or AR player talking about the current matchup. So apparently it isn’t a unique occurence for the losing servers fair weather players to pack it in and make the matchup even more lopsided.
Did EB have to also face all the trash talking from the green server about being baddies and L2P ?
I see so much put into the PVE Living story stuff, and a lot of it is fun and in some cases profitable. But at the same time servers like NSP who do not have a large hardcore WvW population suffer from this. I for one would like to see the living world come to WvW, to bring in those who haven’t experienced WvW.
I don’t know how many times I have seen in map chat “WvW Sux! It’s nothing but a gold sink”. Because people either went in a couple of times and got steamrolled by a zerg, and had to fix their armor. Or because they spent 5 hours and lost 3 gold buying siege and such to actually try to make a difference, yet got nothing in monetary return. I think if Anet would put more emphasis on putting equal reward in WvW as they do in PVE some of these people might be willing to give it a try. This could also potentially make what was a supposed “low population” server into a “high population” server without even a single transfer.
Just my random thought.
Great post…and absolutely true.
Stagnant matchups are a big deal. It slows everything down and lets you see the warts of the game more clearly. Better matchups produce an anticipation that overshadows any game flaws.
The apathy in our matchup has degraded gameplay greatly. Currently server A goes to server B and takes towers/keeps…. while server B is in C taking towers/keeps… and server C is in server A taking towers/keeps.
There is zero interest in defending because it doesn’t mean anything. Match has already been decided. Might as well farm karma/xp/badges and level alts. It’s almost an unsaid agreement between the servers. Very very boring.
Any profession can be built for high burst. But thieves have the easy get away card with easy access to stealth and shadowstep, plus high mobility.
The reason why you see much less warriors etc. running in full berserker gear in WvWvW is because unlike thieves, they cannot reset the fight so easily.
Thus thieves have an unfair advantage.
The main problem with thief is that it confuses new players, they’re down before they know what actually happened.
Absolutely true….and if I was Anet, that would concern me. PvP + WvW is what Anet is trying to do to set them apart from other online games. Typical for these types of games is the hard core players mow through the content then move on to the next best thing. For a game to succeed you always need new blood to replace the older vets that leave. Without the new players, the game dies. The majority of new players will not put up with insta dieing. They leave. Yes, I can hear the thief kiddies scream…L@P n00bs !
I saw it on the pvp servers in daoc. People tried it out and got grief ganked over and over at spawn points. They left. Those servers died.
I do average vs Thieves. Likely 50% win/loss. Even when I win though it is a …“do I enjoy this game?” moment. Win or lose, it is a frustrating experience.
Anet has done some great things with this game. To not put in a counter vs stealth is unbelievable to me….especially when they can see other games had the same problems with stealth and had to make adjustments. There is precedent in this.
Would likely be the same problem to some extent no matter what server you go to.
Defense is a dirty word to many. The majority prefer fast paced action where you do a circuit taking towers/keeps. The enemy follows behind you recapturing the paper, and undefended towers, you just took. One big circle jerk.
That said, the server I have been most impressed with fighting against is Ehmry Bay. What I have seen is they do actually defend and communicate. Very good attack tactics also.
^^^
That is a very good suggestion.
This was just posted by a Thief …
meh. i play thief, and i’ve played all the different weapon sets on thief. to those who say there’s a significant initiative cost on d/p black powder heartseeker stealth, that just means you’re not traiting properly. when i used d/p it there was no huge initiative cost for the permanent, at will stealth it gave me.
more and more Thieves are coming out of the closet so to speak and admitting what many are saying. You won’t see that very often in a game like this unless it is really overpowered.
What the heck are Thieves doing lately that have caused so many different ‘anti-stealth’ suggestions to appear recently?
It seems many have adapted to recent changes by going to a stealth build, where they whittle you down rather than burst you. Pretty common to see 1 thief troll a group of 3-5 by attacking and restealthing ..rinse/repeat. Depending on the 3-5 players he has a chance to kill all 5 …or just leave if it isn’t going his way.
A recent video shows exactly the mindset of many thieves. It shows a thief using the new supply trap. He goes into the middle of 20+ people trying to supply up. He drops the trap then runs away while they all try and hit him. In the video he is laughing like an idiot as he escapes everytime. Pure troll.
Agree ^^^
PvE …dungeons …pvp..WvW
What you plan on doing makes a big difference.
I am still very new to the class so take my opinion with a grain of salt. To me, Warrior play feels like a parlor trick. Try for your burst…if you get it, you are likely to win. If not, you lose. You can get some amazing damage numbers fly across the screen at times, which is good for a giggle. Not very effective though overall.
That damage is avoided with a single side-step.
Yep, which is pretty much the point I was making.

I’m not interested in the immersion of it all because let’s face it, we have things shooting fireballs, firing arrows without quivers, and God knows what else. I care about the play and counterplay it would bring, which I think would be cool.
Neat …cool. Whatever word you would like to use. The more complicated it is to install into the game the less likely it is to happen. Anet just doesn’t have the staff for it. PvP would be a problem because of the whole ruleset holding and capturing points.
So it’s not about immersion. It’s about the size of the gaming field.
Know what the best part about bandwagons is? They collapse spectacularly.
100% true. The drama and posting announcing the moves are quite entertaining though.
I wonder if going through the trouble of putting up a thread makes people feel better when they leave their servers at their utmost convenience, and at the server’s utmost inconvenience.
But then again these threads always smell foul of guilt.
lol no doubt. What amazes me is the sheeple from the entire guild that make the switch. Like they don’t have a mind of their own.
I think this trait would be fun if you made it a certain way:
Camouflage
If the player stands still for 5 seconds, they gain stealth for 10 seconds. Has an internal cooldown of 60 seconds.Low uptime keeps it balanced, and if you don’t want to trip it on point in SPvP, either don’t use the trait or move once every five seconds instead of afking waiting for someone to come to you.
It has no place in PvP. It’s an arena, not the wildnerness. Only usable in WvW. Stand still for a certain amount of time =stealth until you move again. No way that is unbalanced because you aren’t doing anything.
I don’t like the idea of Jaguar stealthing us too… First of all, it makes no sense, and second of all, it would be bad while trying to hold a point in spvp.
Not usable in pvp.
Solved.
Great job. Excellent website.
Good stuff here. Bumping for future reference.
100% agree. My main is a Ranger and my second is a Warrior. I have been playing my Ranger with GS + S/D = total melee in your face fighting. My Warrior is LB + A/S. When i was roaming last night on my Ranger I realized that I played him like a Warrior and I play my Warrior like a Ranger.
There is no way my Warrior would survive if I played him like I was playing my Ranger…why ? because the Ranger heals for a ton. He is waaaay more durable. How wacked is that ? Shouldn’t it be the other way around ?
Doesn’t work inside a tower/keep.
Camouflage makes total sense. Can’t use it until stationary for 10 seconds. Breaks on movement. Zero chance that is overpowered. Not a chance.
Fits the Ranger persona perfectly also….one with nature and the whole scout thing.
