Yea, being able to buy siege on TC is going to change WvW. My prediction ? Defense will matter even less now….and hello even more xp/karma trains. No point when the enemy can slap together a 10 golem rush at half the cost and take down doors in 30 seconds.
Trying it out. So far is a max of 4400 on longshot

As soon as people realize there can only be one class that is the best, the sooner they will relax and just play the game. If we said that Mesmers were the best class in WvW …and then necroes were boosted and were the new #1. That doesn’t mean that Mesmers are kitten just because players have moved on to the new perceived fotm overpowered class.
I agree with you wholeheartedly … until I got to this.
Yes, there can be only one class that is the ‘best’. But there is also the ‘worst’. And we are it. Just because you realize you aren’t the best doesn’t make being the worst any easier.
As Ricky Bobby says…If you ain’t first, you’re last !
After playing EQ/EQ2/DaoC/LOTR/Vanguard/GW2 etc etc. It is always the 2-4 favored classes that are needed…and wanted in “power” groups. Whether that is GvG in pvp or dungeons. Every other class is in the same boat. Sure you can rank them from 5-15 in terms of strength but see above quote from RB
Mainly cause I was curious how Keen Edges would work with it as well.
Loaded up full Rabid Gear, with Corruption Sigils, Superior sigil of earth, and using Sharpened Edges.
Basically same premise as my Rampager’s LB/SB build but with traps.
I’m using undead runes with it, so sitting at 1975 Condition damage with my food/crystals (which means probably 2000 or close to it with the T6 ones)
Damage wise its pretty silly, the Burn is around 825 damage for a tic for both Bonfire and Flame Trap… Bleeds are around 145 a tic… and you can apply a lot of them…Because you’re sitting at 51% crit chance with this build Bonfire tends to also apply bleeds as well as burning (cause it can crit, and apply the Sigil+Sharpened Edges+Keen if they’re below 50%)
Splitblade I’ve seen apply 8-10 bleeds if I land direct hits because of the same combination.
I honestly thought i took out Supply Camps pretty fast before with my old PI build…but the speed at which I crap on supply camps now is just silly…
Zerg Fights are so so…..I’m thinking maybe a shortbow would be better in that case, Though Axe is same range.. so probably wouldn’t matter.
10/30/30/0/0 is build i’m running…..
How hard does Entangle hit for now ? Must be obscene and almost clear the camp on it’s own.
This pretty much sums it up. It’s nice that some people keep on defending the ranger class by saying how they are good in 1v1 and roaming, but that’s pretty much the only thing rangers are somewhat good at. In the bigger WvW fights rangers are pretty much useless.
This really isn’t true. There is a big difference, which is so often lost on theory crafters, between “not optimal” and “useless.” The ranger is underpowered, not unplayable.
The ranger is not optimal for most situations. However, the balancing of the game is not that bad and the difference in performance is much smaller than many players make it out to be. A well-played ranger will outperform a poorly-played anything else.
If you are determined to min/max your performance, as many MMO players are, then the ranger is probably not the best class for you, but there is no need to get all hyperbolic and declare that the class is “useless” just because it doesn’t set the min/maxing bar in most game modes.
Note: I feel that the ranger is underpowered and would like to see it buffed. I just don’t want to compound the problem of being underpowered by having the playerbase believe things are worse than they really are and end up shunning rangers even more because of it.
Well said.
As mentioned in another post. These games by there very design promote min/maxers for the hard core players. There will always be the top 3 classes that are demanded in any GvG play. Which 3 classes those are can change with every patch. Rangers aren’t one of those classes. Just like Necros weren’t…before the patch. Now they are demanded and everyone is doing their best to power level one. That is just the nature of these games.
You can tell 5 good players to play any class that you choose for them. Hell, make them play 5 Rangers. I can guarantee they will reek havoc on the map and kill far far more than they die.
As soon as people realize there can only be one class that is the best, the sooner they will relax and just play the game. If we said that Mesmers were the best class in WvW …and then necroes were boosted and were the new #1. Can’t really decide one thing or the other with so many different opinions O.o But as convinced as I am I’m literally minutes away from deleting my ranger and go easy mode warrior >_< Can’t stand this anymore x)
lol are you serious ? I am assuming this is for dungeons ?
Some great ideas…and some of them are very reasonable.
I will only give 1 wish. Since if we got this I would be completely happy.
1. Ranger stealth – An ability that puts you and your pet into stealth.
- It takes 5 seconds for it to work after activating it.
-If you move, you lose stealth.
-If you attack, you lose stealth.
-When you do lose stealth, it has a 1 minute cooldown before you can use it again.
-Cannot use it inside a tower/keep or supply camp….or within 2000 units outside any of these areas.
It completely fits with any lore the Ranger should have. Great at scouting with stealth but couldn’t abuse it like Thieves by leaving and entering stealth at will.
nice. Looking forward to watching this …even though you kitten me off being able to take a class and instantly master it in WvW (aka your Ranger a couple of months back)
@Forzani little screen for you :
I Actually havent reached 10k yet with my ranger, because i dont want to exceed my powerlevel from 9000!!!!! But seriously it is possible. I guess you can even hit for 12-15k max if you take warrior banners + 25 might stacks + 25 Sigil stacks of might + 25 vulnerability. As you can see all cooldowns rdy so this is an Autoattack from the Longbow. And i havent got any might stacks, nor did i use my frost spirit (10% more dmg), and i have no weapon sigil might stacks, and no warrior banners. I reached 10k btw with Greatsword 2 attack and its pretty easy ^^
lol I saw that one in your video. Snooze you lose if you lag from the zerg.
…one of my favourite things to do (culling the herd)
It is still fantastic damage even though it is an up leveled target.
10k single auto attack ? Hrmm. I guess I should try and see if I can replicate that.
@Forzani: It’s mainly a fun build, that i use to run and one or 2shot them and if they refuse to die, i try my best to kill them with GS, or kite them with longbow. If they are skilled they most likely kill me, but i dont care i just want to have some good fun^^
I like your style
One thing I have heard conflicting information about is Signet of the Hunt activation when you use Rapid Fire. Some say the 150% only applies to the first hit of rapid fire…others say it works on the entire channel of rapid fire. I tried a short test awhile ago and it looked to me it only applied to the initial shot….not the channel.
So I don’t know how you get the 10k channel.
It’s always fun to do some good damage. I tweaked the build a bit to better represent WvW in small man or zerg surfing. I wouldn’t have enough skill to pull this off as a solo roamer.
I know you will be targeted by Thieves and Warriors who look for vulnerable people off to the side. You need to be able to get away and relocate when needed. Thus the GS….Lightning Reflexes and Entangle. I would also have Doggie waiting on cooldown to get into the fight for a knockdown or immobilize. I really like your idea of the Moa and it’s group Fury. That’s why I didn’t include RaO. The Moa will give you fury 50% of the time. The pets are there to serve me. They won’t enter the fight until someone is on me.
There are still a couple of changes I could do but would have to play around with it. IE Barkskin over Empathic Bond.
Might try this again for the giggles
I see you added the builds with a different editor…nice. Looks much better.
Also, I don’t see how you have 100% crit chance.
@ Forzani: The videos are anyways just gameplay footage, or high crit montages. You won’t learn anything from them
I have no idea why they are washed out for you. But i will post a short guide here if people ask to :/
I used no german sites at all for this guide, at least i cant remember .
oh, I will learn something from the video
. I will want to see how activated Wild and Hunt work and how the damage is distributed…IE a 1 trick pony or sustained damage.
Guildhead is tough to follow. Your link to it doesn’t show crit chance…crit damage etc…or the pets you use. Might just be my computer though.
This is what I get when I click on your build box
I link to gw2guru, because the formatting here kinda sucks
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/84073-101-crit-ranger-v2/
I will try another computer later but with this one your videos are washed out. Can’t see your build either unless I join some German site ?
Warriors are in a far better place after the patch. As in most games after a buff, it takes the masses a little while to figure it out.
In regards to end game pvp it is always the same in most games. People gravitate to the top 3 classes at that time. The other classes complain they aren’t balanced. One of the lower classes gets a buff and knocks one of the top 3 out. Rinse/repeat. Min/maxers always produce this type of behaviour.
1 banner is all that is needed IMO. If your running survival build, I would assume the defense banner would be the logical choice.
I would think Discipline or Strength would be better if you were traited for the banner heal.
Too many have a myopic view of their class and don’t see the big picture. If Anet released patch notes that said they are increasing Ranger damage by 10% everyone would be happy and call it a buff. If you went further down the notes and realized they buffed every other class damage 20%, then you would realize overall Rangers got a nerf rather than a buff.
I still think Rangers are pretty good in solo/small man roaming in WvW, but they aren’t as good as they were before the patch. Two classes we could kill pretty easily before patch were Warrior and Necro. Obviously that isn’t the case anymore. Combine that with the pets nerf and yes, I do believe Rangers took a hit.
I think the OP brings up a good point. I would really like to see some more precise testing and see the results.
I remember hearing about HBs before I made my warrior and how much damage it does. I wasn’t really impressed when I used it. The AOE part is very nice though as well as the movement.
Don’t focus on the score. There are more than enough good fights to be found.
As long as a kitten from SoS doesn’t come on here and patronizes the other servers with a comment like……“you guys did well. Keep up the good work. Hopefully you learned something from us in this matchup that you can use next week”
(….that’s the line that TC gave to SoS a couple of weeks ago)
From reading the original post it looks like the Port331 build is used in small man action ? Especially since your runes are group orientated.
My build is very similar (big difference is I use protect spirit instead of LR),. These build are very vulnerable to conditions….especially poisons in a 1v1 situation
Very nice videos! Tagged for future reference.
Hi,
I like your video, was really fun and I hope you don’t mind me sharing something that to me is crystal clear: You outplay your opponent and sometimes by such a huge margin! You are really good at your class and I fear some will copy your build and get owned and wonder why!
This ^^^^
I agree it is a solid build and completely fits your play style. I wonder how many hours have you spent exploring the ruins in EB. You obviously know every nook and cranny in the joint and take full advantage of it with swords leap. I bet you are a champ at jumping puzzles.
If I met you solo it would take all of 5 seconds for me to realize what I am facing and disengage and walk away….since I don’t do JPs you would troll me hard
I have been wondering the same thing. I have mostly been playing staff support. Recently I tried a high condition damage S/D build hoping to be able to solo roam WvW with it. So far not much success. It does really good damage but I am having a hard time escaping any pressure ….although might be my lack of skill with the build.
Was thinking of switching build to go more direct damage rather than conditions.
Still, would also like others opinions if I am beating a dead horse and should just switch to D/D for solo roaming.
Tagged for future review. I can’t decide on a build for WvW roaming but some of the potential builds had mace in it.
Just used a traited one in a duel yesterday and asked the thief to kill it. He pretty much 3 shot it. I would guess 8-10k.
Because you’re on the elementalis sub-forum. Go to the warrior sub-forum and you’ll see Anet hates warriors. Go to the ranger sub-forum and you’ll see Anet hates rangers. Rinse and repeat for each of this game’s professions and you’ll realize things aren’t as bad as you’re thinking they are.
+100
Completely true. Myopic focus always hurts these type of games.
The healing so far is still pretty good. Poison completely shuts you down though. Had numerous duels today with a thief. Did great the first 5 fights. Soon as he switched to sword with poison and larcenous it was all over.
Last week was a DB faceroll, this week it’s a TC. Faceroll, looks like matchmaking didn’t change much after my hiatus… What a shame
Yea facerolls aren’t fun, but I prefer a stomping by DB rather than TC. At least DB will fight in the open field even when they don’t have the numbers advantage. Trackstar Coast ? Not so much.
Now that we’ve had several weeks of adjustment via random variation to the normal ratings, it has shaken up more properly some of the stale rankings that were created by the old locked in system.
But we really don’t need this every week, as it is depriving servers of more interesting and competitive matches that would be legitimately well balanced, as now every week you get someone moving up too far and getting stomped (KN) or a few other servers getting a free ride down a tier or two for easy victories.
The random additions to server’s rankings should happen only every other week at most, maybe even less than that. Rest of the time go back to straight order.
I think it is a very good idea. This was something I was actually thinking of a couple of days ago.
It combines the best of both systems. One week you are guaranteed a matchup with your closest ranked competitors. The next week is a random matchup which guarantees some variety.
I can say that the Warriors I have seen and/or fought the past couple of days it is obvious they are much improved.
I haven’t decided on a build yet for Warrior. Still waiting for Build Editor to update. Looking forward to getting him out into WvW with the changes.
I still use the regen signet with spirit.
More good fights today. The tanking is pretty good. Warriors sure are a lot tougher now..even though they complain more than Rangers
I havn’t been able to log in to play in a couple days thanks to my work schedule but I have been toying with a very similar build and gear choice. The only differance I came up with is ..
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rune_of_the_Monk x2
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rune_of_the_Water x2
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rune_of_Dwayna x2
I realize this negates the protection bonus on the water but with a 5% chance on 30sec cooldown I see the added regen boost from the Dwayana as a fair trade. Not sure if that regen 20% would work with Natures Voice or not.
Regen already has 100% up time.
hm, somehow nobody likes rune of earth
Changing your second pair to earth would result in an additional +5% protection, not game-changing, but just saying…Wouldn’t 15% Boon duration do the same thing for protection as 15% Protection duration ?
yes, but the second bonus is +20% protection duration (in PVE) afaik.
Sorry man, I’m not sure what you mean

No mobility would make it tough to solo roam. Interesting though. I haven’t tested all the spirits yet. Look forward to the update.
Re: WvW
I don’t know what you expect to be able to do. It’s a proven fact that some players dominate on their Rangers. In fact, the recent nerfs are because of that domination.
The good players will still dominate after the patch. Although that isn’t truly an indicator of a classes strength. I would agree with you if you said Rangers are currently a tad under powered compared to the rest of the classes. Still, in WvW you can still compete just fine.
I have no opinion on dungeons since I don’t participate
Doh, I always criticize people when they post a build or ask for opinions when they don’t mention their intentions.
This build is 100% WvW
75% Solo roamer
25% small man (occasional run with guild zerg to recapture map)
Too soon to know how the majority will deal with spirit pet…..which is why I was trying like kitten to find a duel yesterday …and to group with them so I could talk.
I am trying to be proactive to find a build that lets me compete
I am lost without my usual build editor. Using Into The Mists Editor for now.
Played around with LB the first day of patch. That didn’t go well. Decided to go back to a condition healing build. Dropped BM Natural Healing and added the shout Guard and Stone Spirit.
I don’t heal as well but have added a ton of protection. with +60% protection duration (15 protection +45 Boon). Spiritual Knowledge procs protection for a 70% chance on my hits….so it is up most of the time.
Been flip flopping with either Bark Skin or empathic bond or barkskin. When I use Empathic bond I drop Brown Bear for Alpine Wolf. Really considering using Black Bear for the Weakness.
Overall I don’t think my damage is as good as pre-patch. My survivability might be a tad lower but TBD. Protection is a very good damage mitigation. Only had a handful of fights so far and did pretty well but will reserve judgment after more fights.
Edit: WvW build. Mostly solo with some small man
(edited by Forzani.2584)
Nice information. Tagged for future reference.
Agree, for what ?
…and I recall Bear getting something in the patch but can’t seem to find what it was.
I change something in my build every couple of weeks. Sometimes minor tweaks, other times complete over hauls.
Might be time to dabble with LB again.
Regardless, this still makes a viable roaming build. And 360 is still a decent radius. Not sure where all the hate over that is coming from lol.
Also, I was only trying to show how you can replace the old “beastmaster” mindset. This is a proposition, not a guide :P
Hey FS, we aint paying you the big cash to supply propositions. Finish that guide up…pronto.
That is awesome Kodiak. Innovation is a great thing !
I have my support staff build for WvW that I have been using. When I decide to try solo in WvW I was thinking about using S/D. I can’t see how to keep perma swiftness up with no combo fields like Static.
I can get 16 seconds of swiftness out of Glyph of Harmony with 60% boon duration, but I don’t want to get Zephyrs Boon when I only see one Aura available. Might have to get Inscription ?
Eh? No other replies?
Guess people would much rather QQ than explore the possibilities opening up with the patch. /shrug
I am going to wait until I know with 100% certainty what the patch notes are before spending too much time theory crafting. I would drive myself insane making the perfect build and finding out it isn’t valid !
TBH the 900 range on shortbow isnt bad, you’re not even past 700-800 in most fights, for someone who likes to skirmish/roam. now for PvE this could potentially be a problem?
In zergs it is.
I like to roam and play in small groups, so i guess that is my opinion, i think zerging is terribad
It’s terribad but it’s the only way to win and it’s the most lucrative way to play wvw. Each zerg fight I can easily get 25-35 bags on my necro or ele. I’d be lucky to get the same roaming.
Roaming also doesn’t give much in WXP.
WXP and “loot” on an importance scale of 1 thru 10 is a -6 for me.
Fun fights >>>> Bags/WXP
Not everyone shares your interpretation of “fun”. Especially if that fun involves getting a certain skin that roaming won’t get you.
..and that is my point. Not everyone shares your interpretation of fun or the “importance” of a certain skin…..and you call zerging terribad, yet still do it to get that valuable skin. I would rather do something fun than do something I don’t enjoy just to change the look of a weapon or armor. Sounds like a job to me
To each their own though I guess.
