While I do agree SoR blobs much harder due to their coverage and numbers, don’t kid yourselves and think you can beat SoR with equal numbers.
r.o.f.l.
delusions are unhealthy. The only delusion here is people who think they are more skilled because of being in a lower tier.
The only delusion here is people who think they are more skilled because of being in a higher tier.
Pretty much. It is amusing though when you catch them away from their zerg. Really hard to see their “skill” when they run away screaming like a 5 year old.
I don’t mean to be harsh, so sorry if I come off as that.
Wasn’t harsh at all. Truth is truth.
If you happen to be a power/crit build with ‘active signet effects you’ you can make it do some serious damage. It’s quite funny when you throw it out, massive crit, and you happen to hook them on the way back pulling them into you (more crits). During that moment you’ve switched to GS and drop a big maul crit on their knocked down face.
If you didnt know your axe can travel down a the wall and pull them to it.
Path of Scars can be a bit hard to land but the dmg output makes up for it.
Raganov knows what hes talking about.
i usually use signet of the hunt twice(buff last 16min), with signet of the wild, and you will do well over 20k with just Path of Scars and another 10k+ with Maul. its insane dmg really. You can swap to your greatsword while your axe is flying and wait for the pull to take them to you. Switch back to 1hand sword and keep crippled on them if you havent finished them in your first combo. I usually run with chill sigils and 1 hand sword to keep them locked down after.
Been saying it for awhile. Best burst damage a Ranger has.
Well tbh in my opinion the ranger in wvw is the guerrilla fighter. You don’t rush ahead with the guardians and warriors into the fray, you stick to the sideline and cause havoc from there. Traps, the longbow’s barrage and some smart thinking helps. Plenty of time i was ignored as a ranger by the enemy zerg and remained behind their lines and raining traps, entangle and barrage over them. Also you can cut their retreat if you go for the back lines.
That’s how i see the ranger. The guerrilla figher that dosen’t engage ofthen in melee combat but keeps his distance and causes havoc and disesntion. Nothing is more fun than placing a AC behind the enemy zerg and raining arrows on them melting them down.
Exactly correct.
WvW zerg blob fights are completely different than GvG fights in WvW.
No class is unwelcome in zerg vs zerg wars. If that was true then there would be no underleveled toons…which there always is. Zerging is all about bodies.
GvG ? Yep, there will always be the 3-4 favoured classes…and sometimes one of those classes gets booted when another gets a boost. It’s the same scenario in every single game like this. What’s also the same is people making whine posts when in fact there is no solution. Min/maxers will always use the 3-4 best(perceived best) classes…which in turn will exclude the rest of the classes. Every….single….time
but to address your 1v1 capability, i have to say that without a ton of healing power, you have very little sustain with signets and GS alone. once u pop your cooldowns youre finished. you wont be able to burst down good thieves, mesmers, or any other 1v1 spec really. you’ll blow your cooldowns, they’ll disappear for a sec, and then proceed to shred u. and defense with GS is not enough. u dont have regen.
hey i suggest you to give a better look to the guide
i’m also explaining how to kill each single class/build and of course also how to kill condition builds. I know condi builds are the king of 1vs1 no need to repeat again but this is a power build thread and i’m showing how to kill them because isn’t impossible! just harder but not impossible.
Anyway you are talking about condition damage, healing power and bunker builds… those builds have very much problems.
1) healing is cutted with poison
2) condition is cutted by -60% duration + condition remover (heal) + condition remover (SoR)
3) bunker builds have low damageso as you can understand there is nothing of unbeatable in those build; just learn how to approach them and i’m trying to explain just this
Entire thread overloaded with speculative theory craft
Who cares.

I would stay away from power builds, they’re getting a nerf when Ascended gear comes out.
To quote another : “To simplify, say warrior longbow did 1000dps and rangers did 600dps with the pet picking up the extra 400 to round it out. If the new weapon sets gave you a 10% damage output boost the warrior would be at 1100 dps and the ranger would be at 660 dps plus 400 equaling 1060.”
Unless Dev comes here and explains it differently, our damage output will not keep pace with the rest of the Ascended wearing crowd out there.
So in this example Power build does 60% damage. How are condition builds different? They only get 60% also ?
Again…pvp or wvw ?
pvp build I assume? I know you like to roam in WvW but that is tough without speed or weapon mobility (although I know you are good with sword doing the about face)
My Ranger is slightly different than a Thief in WvW. I roam around looking for fights. At times I join the zerg. My targest ? Others standing back from the blob. I spike on them, kill them, then move onto the next victim. Why would I want to be in the middle of the blob? If I truly did want to be I would play my Ele or Warrior. Different tools for different jobs.
Other than to complain, what the kitten do you want…or expect? Every game I have played…EQ/EQ2/Vanguard/LOTR/DAOC/WoW/Rift/GW2, I have always played some type of archer and a healer type as my alt. What do I expect going in ? That my archer type class is going to be my roamer/soloer and my healer is going to be my grouping class. I didn’t make a Cleric in daoc to go out soloing in pvp..then complain because he didn’t do it well. I didn’t make a Scout in Daoc to be part of some gank group in pvp.
Honestly, a Ranger can do just fine in a 10 man/5man “gank” group in GW2. A well organized group can take a Ranger and dominate vs most other groups. Forward thinking and innovation goes a long way. Sure they might lose to a hardcore group of all Engineers/Warriors etc but so what.
That’s why you see Elementalists cry they were underpowered. Then someone comes out with a D/D build and everyone flocks to it like a bunch of sheep. Eventually causes a nerf. No different here. People cry about Rangers and the sheep chime in and agree. The forward thinkers and innovators do just fine. Many dominate as a solo or as part of guild groups.
I know it is human nature to whine and complain but it is annoying at times. A Ranger is what it is. Play to it’s strengths, not to what you want it to be.
problem with ranger power builds is they give zero sustain. so i wouldnt use this to duel anyone. once u pop your signets, youre done. i run a similar build in GvZ combat, which is where LB really excels. but i use sword/axe because traited Path of Scars is by far our best ability. then pop signets, and run in with whirling defense.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=snZRnEzpLPg#t=860
i also wouldnt roll without 2k toughness and at least 19k HP. giving up a bit of crit damage and crit chance for HP and toughness is worth it.
3)2000 or more toughness is not as usefull as you think simply because we need a good burst ability because ranger dps isn’t so high. Burst an enemy down and defend when needed is the best way to approach a fight because if you go too tanky you becomes a toy in enemy’s hands.
I didn’t say you need to lose any burst with 2200 toughness

Good to see at least one other person agrees with me
Kasama.8941 you are idiot i must say we dont have chill immobolize or pull
The “Path of Scars” offhand Axe now pulls doesn’t it? So does mainhand Axe 3.
As for Immobilize I have a spider or devourer for that
mainhand axe doesnt4 pull.
offhand axe pull only good against runaway noobsSkills 4 and 5 are offhand skills when you have two one handed weapons . . . and I don’t use offhand axe that much since I prefer to run with a warhorn for the burst effect instead
At least during invasion events. Stepping into those combo fields and putting the horn out is fun
Axe 4 is Rangers best burst imo
Axe 4? “Path of Scars” or do you mean “Whirling Defense”?
he means PoS. 2.5-4k damage one way, so up to 8k damage in a line. problem is it only pulls 3 targets. WD does something like 2.5-4.5 but over 5 seconds. it’s there for the reflect and vuln. for WD to be viable, it need to be cast over 2-3s, and that vuln need to stack much faster. standing still in zerg fights is suicidal without traited Signet of Stone.
Agreed Op i gave up Wvw on rangers its a joke and a waste of time..
All these Rangers are awesome in Wvw what a crock of Kitten, go play another class in WvW and see how bad they make Rangers look, i don’t even login to my Ranger much these days as its a waste of effort..
i also main guard and necro. my frontline ranger does more damage than my guard, and the damage variant of that build brings more utility than the typical well necro. you likely dont know how to gear and spec your ranger, have a look at my thread/youtube.
Correct, path of scars……and it can do a lot more damage than you listed depending on spec. Which is why I think it is part of a Rangers best burst damage.

You can get a bunch more toughness…up to 2200 if you tweak it a bit.
Like a repeating record. Every game I have played is the same. EQ,EQ2,LOTR,DAOC,WoW. The min/maxers take over. They take the best classes needed to get the job done the quickest and easiest. It’s not that other classes can’t do the job but when one class has a dps of 123…and another has a dps of 119, they take the first class.
So no matter what the game developer does, the min/maxers will take their idea of the best classes. Weird how up until a couple of months ago a class like Necros were saying the same thing as Rangers. They got a boost and now are included in GvG groups. Now Mesmers are the ones being left out. They are still included but not as much. Some groups even go with a makeup of 50% warriors. That would have been unheard of a few months ago.
So why worry about it?…because if Ranger was ever improved to the point they were a “must have” class in a serious GvG roaming group it would be at the expense of another class. So then it would be their turn to complain.
Assuming group WvW to give you speed ?
Last couple of months been playing around with zerker type builds. Mostly with LB. I found it a tad glassy so was trying to find a better balance.
Two main game plays. 100% WvW. Solo roamer picking off stragglers of a zerg…taking supply camps etc. I also run with zerg at times mostly trying to pick off people trying to snipe from outside of blob.
Lately been running with this setup and I find this to be the best burst plus pretty good sustain….although always trying to tweak it.
I find Path of Scars to have better burst than LB. It doesn’t always hit, but when it does you see damage like 6k from first path of scars…1.1 k from lightning…1k winters bite then another 4k with path of scars return. The damage spike comes from Signet of the Hunt active of 150% damage. I get numerous tells from both allies and enemy of ..“wtf was that ?” because they melted almost instantly.
The base rotation is path of scars…winters bite (enemy pulled to your feet)…split blade then switch to GS..hilt bash..maul..swoop. Very good damage.
I have 4 axes. Two of them have signet of perception so easy to get 25 stacks on the way into battles. Then switch to other 2 axes. Spotter adds another 150 precision. Which gives me approx. 55% crit chance with 79% crit damage.
Not terribly squishy with 2207 toughness and 16500 hps.

Just wanted to hop in and say it is intentional. It is considered a transformation, and in transformations, you can not interact with anything. I don’t agree with it, but it isn’t a bug.
Not sure what you mean. Something like a shape change isn’t considered a transformation?
Yet traited Signet of Renewal seems to work just fine….to the Rangers detriment.
No, traited sig of renewal has the ranger pull the condis FIRST so if you’re within range of your pet the condis will still end up on your pet.
What if the conditions are on you to begin with? I have tried to track it during a fight but it is difficult at times. Last couple of times the conditions didn’t leave me like they do when Renewal is not traited.

I like that they are ranged. Don’t really care about the animations. Best burst damage(offhand 4) Ranger has so I would like it to stay as is.

if only our oceanic force could replace our NA force and show you guys how it’s done.
In all honesty i have no idea why our NA is performing so badly this week, maybe they are taking a break or maybe because of other reasons usually we would have a queue in at least 1 bl during NA time today we couldn’t do anything because Yak’s had us outnumbered in our own borderlands.oh, i know the reasons. Like Forzani said, na dont bother cause you guys will get it. It`s a great excuse even tho this match-up (being balanced for na time) would offer quite a few opportunities to actually do something to improve play game besides zerging. The problem is, there seems no motivation at all to improve. If it were not for other servers like these in this match-up it would give me an eye-brow raising impression of na.
.
But anyway, if you get oceanics and the zerg of pvgolemdoor to actually only once siege up that whole place while on it (it gives xp after all, i would even willing to chip in some stacks of siege blueprints) I will probably kiss your feet, take everything back i ever said about oceanics only karma training and being scared of ac and beg Ana to put a heart -shaped picture of you on the forum frontpage.
How about it? ^.^
So far its interesting that the further the match moves along now, the faster yaks and dh are taking over. While in the last few days we still had sm when i logged after you guys, now even sm (nevermind the wp) are gone. What i mean is our NA usually performs exceptionally well and doesn’t fairweather unlike many other servers (take a look at us facing some tougher matches you will find our relative strength quite consistent). all i meant is we are lacking in the numbers department this week and i’m pretty sure it’s because people are taking breaks because it’s an easy win. Hopefully next week when we get a tougher match our numbers will return which i’m sure it will we usually rise to the occasion.
Decent theory, but when I am on we have as many, if not more compared to when we face TC/FA types.
I thank both YB and DH for bringing the fun this week. I think SoS has played servers ranked 1-15 in the last few months and I see very little difference between individual player skill levels.
I would ask gamers to consider ignoring the troll/hate posters who drop in now and then, IMHO it is better to just deny them the attention they seek.
Maybe not between individual player skills but between servers one gotta admit both dh and yaks are better oganized than sos. And as opposed to sos – who will just wait for oceanics to turn up – i have seen quite a few impressive moves from dh.
Also, yaks had a wp in hills on sos bl ….a thing sos had not managed to do.if only our oceanic force could replace our NA force and show you guys how it’s done.
In all honesty i have no idea why our NA is performing so badly this week, maybe they are taking a break or maybe because of other reasons usually we would have a queue in at least 1 bl during NA time today we couldn’t do anything because Yak’s had us outnumbered in our own borderlands.
Rarely ever does sos have to queue up during NA time other than reset night. If there is actually a queue, it would be for EB. Being outnumbered in our own BL? Frequent occurrence. In fact at times you will get an outnumbered in sos BL yet at the same time have a queue time for EB. That should speak volumes about NA priorities.
Less and less are stressed about it because they know later that night the Oceanics will pve the hell out of some doors to get the score up.
I knew we were going to lose this matchup, and so i dont care to see a 20k deficit after the 2nd night. Afterall, it is not SEA or AUS players fault they arent on “our” time. That’s an america-centric viewpoint that is just dumb.
What i am disapointed with is the lack of small scale skill from them and the sheer cowardice of some of their players. 4 SoS see 2 DH? Start fighting one on their team goes down they scatter. Now obviously that isnt EVERYONE on SoS, but kitten seems like alot. I hear they have some good guilds that small scale i guess they are just ghosts or not on the maps i happen to be on.
Just my personal observations so far. I havent had a good fight yet outside of me and 2 PD fighting 5-8+ yesterday. All day long its 5v1 or run from even fights. /shrug Guess i was hoping for more from such a highly rated server.
Higher rated server means absolutely nothing. Why do people even think that it would?
Got to get used to actually be in a matchup where people fight back. Too used to fighting TC/FA where it’s only run in a large blob and if you do ever catch anyone, even if it is 1v3, they are more likely to run than fight. Might have to tweak my build for this week since it looks like there will be more people looking to fight.
Already had my kitten handed to me a couple of times by both DH and Yaks. It would be more than a fair matchup 16 hours of the day. Unfortunately for DH/Yaks they can’t compete during the 8 hours of PvDoor action.
I experiment with different builds/weapon sets every couple of weeks. So far, imo, the best weapon sets for a power/crit burst build is GS/A+A
Axe 4 is our hardest hitting skill…and it’s at 1200 range and it pulls enemy to you. Combined with doggie knockdown you get an enemy at your feet on his back with 50% health all lined up for the GS chain.
No Rangers in WvW ? It’s like the pub down my street. It’s so busy that no one goes there anymore.
i gave constructive criticism in this thread (negative feedback if you want to be a sissy about it). the glaring problem with this build isnt the actual build. the build is fine.
claiming that the build is for pvp while running longbow+zerker, that was the problem. if this (gear and weapon choice) ever becomes viable from anywhere other than than the unseen center of a zerg or a keep wall, the greatest ranger in the game will be some some guy named xXLegolassXx and he’ll have 25 videos out the first day. never go full zerker unless you’re a zergtard. even then, it is probably not a good idea.
I have about 15 hours of small man roaming with 5> people that completely disproves what you say here. It all depends on how you play, and maybe what server you are on, right now i have never run into a group with more than 5 people with my ranger, so its alot easier to stay alive, and help burn people down compared to servers that have blobs running around every map.
Is it a challenge? Of course it is, is it viable? ..I would say yes, i have never had so much fun killing perma stealth thieves than with 100% zerker longbow, its fun to burn them down when they are expecting to be able to dance in and out of fights all day long without any trouble.
Note: This is using a variant of the 10k longbow attack build, excuse the somewhat off the topic post, just showing the opposite side of the coin to raven bashing this weapon/armor setup.
This x1000
Yes, you are vulnerable to Thieves….but, they will learn to know you are around very quickly when keep dieing to your rapid fire when they think the can do the trolling stealth dance. It is a very satisfying thing.
Good post. I pretty much agree with most of it. The supply camp success with condition build though is a product of the AOE. Single target like 1 guard or 1 yak the power build will kill it faster. I do know when I am power build I won’t attempt supply camps during a busy time. Takes too long.
Any time you need someone to help open it on NA please send me a PM
it should do the trick for you. High vitality, some healing, a pet that will hit like a truck, and a bow that will hit equally hard
Isn’t speed increase important for a roaming build?
most of the time, the speed increase isn’t needed. In fights, it might be handy, but all in all, the signet offers little utility and thus, it can easily be replaced without it being a huge loss.
Is this theory crafting ?
1. Can’t roam without speed. Especially small man. You are a sitting duck if any groups/zergs see you.
2. Your truck hitting pet is severely hampered without speed.
Tad frustrating. Never seen it uncontested or have enough people to uncontest it. Just want some Cavilier gear but don’t see me getting it anytime soon.
most of your utility suggestions are way too OP. Not only OP, but they would wreck havoc on the rangers overall PvP balance. Making sure that heavy nerfs would rain down upon us.
While the suggestions sure are interesting, they are in dire need of a more refined rethinking
Agree with this statement
Any commander that talks like that about any class is a waste of time. Very high chance he is a PvE special that farmed his way to his commander tag. In a ZvZ scenario a good commander will take whatever he can get. The only time they might get a bit specific is reset night when they prefer all level 80’s.
Some good stuff. Indexed for future reference.
Believe me, many rangers are fearsome….especially if you haven’t fought them before and aren’t prepared. I only get caught once, then I remember them for next time.
Excellent stuff. Tagged for future reference.
There is always something good that comes out of a bad situation. I’m sure TC is fairly happy that they learned some new tactics and strategies dealing with the big dogs.
Sigil of Earth is a nice touch. Forgot about that.
…and I believe ! ….just haven’t figured it out yet. Kinda like the Caramilk secret
60% crit chance is another 1 bleed every 10 shots
Edit: As compared to 43% crit chance
3000 Attack Power (w/bloodlust stack)
1200 Condition damage
43% Critical Chance
64% Critical Damage
2810 Armor
21K HPLink to build
Yeah, this build does some major damage. I’ve been running around with this build and I’m liking it. Granted I normally run a Hybrid BM build so I’m used to having lots of regen and this build doesn’t quite have the same regen abilities. But if you look at those numbers above, you can tell that this is a great build.
Now the key here is to utilize Stealth on Hunters Shot. You have to time your hits just right to put the pressure on your enemy. It took me a little practice but once I got the hang of it I was dropping players left and right. You can get around 12-18 stacks of bleeds on an enemy within seconds. On top of your 7K burst from Rapid Fire. Basically, your rotation is: Opening with Barrage > Point Blank Shot > Activate Sharpening Stone > Rapid Fire > Hunters Shot for Stealth > Get your distance again and repeat skills 4 > 2 > 3. If things get within melee then switch to Axe/Warhorn. Your bleeds can be applied with Hunter’s Call.
Let me know what you guys think. If anyone’s interested, I can record some videos of it in action.
I assume this is PvP ?
No mobility would make it tough in WvW
I’m sure you are getting 25 stacks of bleed….but I can’t get the math to support it.
In the first build 43% chance to crit = every 10 shots, 4 will crit (roughly)
Sharpened Edges = 66%.
4 crits x 66% = 2.5 bleeds every 10 attacks.
Sharpened stone gives another 5 bleeds every 45 seconds.
Splitblade is 1-5 bleeds depending on range.
Apparently I am missing something
Go to the top of this page, click wiki, roll around in the pages of things.
I find Wiki has about the same accuracy as the National Enquirer. Thanks for the tip though.
Been trying to test out the new healing with and without healing gear.
I know healing helps with healing signet. No healing I get 390ish a heal and with 1100 healing I get 440ish a heal.
Has anyone tested if +heal works for Adrenal health ?
Banner heals ?
Regen from Banners
Thanks
A couple of things. These builds are kill or be killed. Can be a lot of fun. Fights won’t last long, so lowering your signet timer will rarely come into play during a fight. It is average at best in any 1v1 situation. If someone is prepared…and sees you coming, it is likely going to be a tough fight.
I use it more as a predator style. Roam around on the outside…pick a soft target and let er rip.
Have fun with it !
Just tried my own version…very similar.
Very hard for someone to kill me….but tough for me to get the kill also. Going to have to slowly tweak it to gain some damage and try and find the sweet spot.
@ the Maguu Ranger out there in Violent Resolution guild ? One of the top 3 Rangers I have ever faced. Nasty.
/clap
