I didn’t mean that the npcs here are chess pieces. I just use that as an metaphor for the banners racecars and whatever tactics and tools.

Still though, NPCs dont really pose much of a threat. They stall people only slightly. Lords do a bit more, but still not to amazing amounts. Instantly repairing walls on cap and the 5min cooldown are doing way more than NPCs do.

Well at least you’re thinking in the right way now.
Because simple removal of everything you dont like is not the right way. Plus it really isnt PvE. Its an objective. Chess pieces or tools or weapons that are too powerful are indeed annoying, but they aren’t PvE.

Most NPCs really aren’t a problem for most players. That’s why Im skeptical to that argument.

Myself, I was thinking more akin to slotted upgrades and tactics to be physically represented inside keeps and towers. And/or maybe adding things that counter defensive measures or stall or scout them out.

Buggy and laggy things should be avoided, but they happen. There is a distinction between bad design and bad programming.

The only “PvE” WvW has is mobs standing on objectives, not the actual objectives themselves. This logic is making any capture point in any pvp game pve. CTF? The flag is PvE. Domination? The capture points are PvE.

That’s a reason to just facepalm hard whenever I see any WvWer talk about PvE in WvW.

Looking through the threads I only think that all these serious wvw commanders cannot even adapt to some challenging terrain.

So ArenaNet needs to plan some escalators and more waypoints for these posers. This “hardcore” WvW group is just a sack of potatoes. Instead of crushing their enemies with some intelligent terrain matching tactics they are QQing on the forums like babies about their inability and mindnumbing egos.

At least to some extend anyway. I don’t mean to say that all changes make for a good match up, but the map is a constant that can easily be learned. Just not many have been trying, and just gave up on it. Even the gimmicks have cooldowns that can be played around to some extent.

Removal of gimmicks is a suggestion for the plebs. Rebalancing them so they can be countered easier is much better. Or better creating counters for them so you can negate certain effects.

If there’s so many people in T1 that are good that are standing down, they sure are a huge disappointment anyway. One trick ponies, know one map and gave up when the map was too challenging. What a joke.

Maybe it’s time to make WvW more appealing to more people by increasing rewards, because the current ones are kitten ing it up, thinking theyre special.

What i understand from that post was mostly:

Things WvW guilds should get faster or never been taken:
guild buffs and guild claiming.

That’s basically all you’re saying.
I think I can agree with that even. But your solutions aren’t realistic

But all the new functionalities in EBG and DBL still would need to be added to Alpine borderlands for consistency and actually for it to be working correctly. Surely there are some things players don’t like for some of those, but there are also things you do need there that do need that new functionality. Like something for guild missions to just name something.

Wrong answer or wrong interpretation?

All I understood was “We do things we can do easily first, so we don’t have to make you wait for the things that take too long.”

It’s “rotten food” with or without “sugar” no matter which order they take. In either case you need to wait for the “big fix”.

It isn’t even that it is the easy things first. The easiest thing to do would be to roll back to a non HoT WvW instead of work on bringing more PvE into WvW ( the new rewards system is supposed to be like the PvE HoT maps participation rewards ). . The problem is they don’t want to do what is actually the easiest.. The problem is their past, current and future plans and those actually need to be changed to make the game mode playable. They are not really changing that. Sure they changed their mind on replacing EBG since the DBL turned out so bad, but until they start designing WvW as a large scale PvP game mode as it’s primary focus , the plan is still going to be bad. Putting in HoT participation rewards and an EoTM alliance system isn’t going to help the current situation.

A roll back would be impossible due to all the systems being interwoven with eachother. What youre asking is not that simple at all.

“We still intend to eventually bring back the Alpine Borderlands map, but it’s not as simple as just toggling it back on. We don’t have the tech for rotating between the two borderlands built yet, and the map itself required a significant amount of content updates to support all of the features that were added to WvW as part of the HoT update.” ~ Mike Obrien

What part of " players do not want you to ruin the Alpine Map with the HoT content" don’t they understand? They wont bring it back because it doesn’t have the Hot content added when the problem they are resolving by bringing it back is players DON’T WANT the HoT updates.. Players do not want the Auto crap that ruined WvW gameplay for so many, but they refuse to add Alpine back without adding the stuff players do not want.. They just do not " get" it. by the time they do ( if that ever happens) everyone will be gone.

So all those upgrades you can make will all be useless? They’re never going to do that.

At least with the old system buying influence was purely optional. With the new system, gold is the only way to get those upgrades. Mats = gold

For smaller guilds buying influence was just as optional as buying materials for the guild hall.

FrizzFreston.5290

I appreciate the feedback that I’ve gotten in this thread.

I am quite surprised that more people seem pleased with the expansion than I expected. For me, the story lasted a couple hours, mapping and doing adventures maybe took 2-3 weeks and since then I’ve only been pvping for lack of anything to do that isn’t ‘pay 3k of every map currency for this useless item for a collection you don’t even like’.’

Because map completion is fairly boring if you strife for that only. It has no depth if you just walk by a huge waterfall grab vista PoI hero point and move on and say “I have seen it all!” Just missing the dialogue with NPCs, hidden jumping puzzles, chests, hidden achievements and such. Because once you start on those, and occasionally helping with events and metas you automatically grind up a load of that 3k of materials.

I generally try to do all the achievements, and then try to at least do every event chain and then get lost somewhere in between. That seems to work for me.

edit: I don’t see collections are materials grinds most of the time, They’re usually little stories in their own little stye. Not all of them like gather all of this particular weapon, but legendary precursor ones definitely are. They give some minor story elements that are quite enjoyable, until they get fairly expensive and you need to grind in tier 2 precursors.. though tier 3 is more story driven again if you can get through that awful tier 2. Of course grinding materials is boring, but if you play right you can alternate different content quite nicely.

I understand that a lot of people didn’t care as much for LS2, but also consider that they were already knee-deep in expansion at that point. I can appreciate it for what it could have been, if they didn’t have a split focus. I can’t appreciate that they came up so short (yes, again, imo) in the expansion, when they left us with nothing else to do for 10 months while they worked on it.

I actually preferred living story whichever way, maybe even Living story 1 over 2, even if it’s a bit too hardcore storytelling. The story in HoT was indeed pretty short and sad. It was barely a chapter in living world 2 style. That said they do intend on bringing it back in between expansions.

But that doesn’t mean HoT was a complete failure. There are pretty amazing pieces in between that.

And that HoT brought in new system with basically every step, makes me hope that the next expansion or living story at least doesn’t require a full from the ground up development, because the systems are there. Supposedly. So it’s a wait and see.
That and this April they already want to revisit content in Heart of Thorns. So maybe we see some improvements already.

I mean, you can use big words and say “NO expansion ever again because SUCK” but that’s not realistic.

I was, and am, of the mentality that with respect to expansions, ‘fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.’ Well, with how little I believe there is to do in this expansion, and with how long we had to wait, before and after, in order to get what we have, is not worth them doing it to us again, paying for it again, and for the term “as big in scope as HoT was” to even remotely be a good thing.

But they aren’t fooling you. It’s just alot of engine and less content. Which is completely useless to a consumer who is waiting for the content rather than a new engine. (At least to some quote by Colin which has been lost in the depths of internet.)

So what you really want to say is, please not another full overhauling technical expansion, and just give us content the next time you make an expansion. Less behind the scenes and more on the screens.

And that I definitely can agree with.

Of course you can also wear tinfoil hats and say that ArenaNet is full of nonsense and scheming and propaganda. But if that’s the case then there’s no hope for the future and it’s better to stop playing this game all together. There wouldn’t be any amount of posts that would change that if that was really true. Hence I don’t follow such irrational thinking.

I always liked the saying: Previous results are no guarantee for the future.

I understand where you are coming from Vayne. I just don’t think gold sinks are the way to go with guilds. Let’s say you are a guild member that has donated a lot of mats to the guild that are worth a lot of gold. Then there is a disagreement or some kind of rift in the guild. The guild member gets kicked out of the guild or because the environment is so hostile they choose to leave. Now their massive donations in mats(gold) have been for nothing. With the passive influence system, a player getting kicked is still not great but at least they aren’t robbed of their gold and mats.

The same could be said for influence. It’s not as obvious, and I guess it doesn’t interfere with personal goals as much, But then you don’t account for buying influence with gold. Oh wait… that would also turn guild halls into gold sinks. Except because it was a system players already had, it would still be a gold sink. Or a time sink in most cases. It would just mean waiting long enough. And it favoured big guilds just as much as small guilds.

And if a player keeps repping one guild and then gets kicked out all that time repping one guild would also be lost. They “passively” gave all their influence to one guild, which then kicks you, for whatever reason. They can’t upgrade multiple guild halls either if they wish to do so with the influence system.

It’s really not all that different, if not a worse system.

EDIT: I agree that regaining old functionalities or slightly different functionalities that are being sold as completely new ones is a huge disappointment though. Worse if old functionalities are being taken away from customers and demand that they buy an expansion to regain them. That’s just the lowest of tactics, even if the functionality isn’t a huge deal.

SkyShroud was far from being aggressive, he’s just pointing out the flaws in your arguments. Which, if you think about it, would just help you make your argument stronger if you hadn’t posted alot of unrelated biased points about what the game is to you specifically. If someone has a different experience than you, then your experience isn’t automatically superior.

Funnily enough, you’re being more aggressive by telling people to scoot when they don’t fully agree with your vision of the game, even if some of them are overly exaggerated.

The problem here is more that players see this huge mountain of stuff they need to put in, and barely attempt to work towards the goals. Or think the goals aren’t worth it, but still want those goals regardless.

It definitely takes alot of effort to put in the guildhall to “max” it. For some it’s easier than others. But this doesn’t mean the system fails. It just set the bar pretty high from the start, and not every guild is capable of organizing themselves to have a go at these goals. (Which is what I meant with that they “fail”) This doesn’t mean they are bad players or even a bad guild, it just means that organizing to upgrade the hall is a alien task for certain guilds. Hell, even my guild has problems to properly organize proper donation flow. It’s just that we have a few stubborn guild leaders (myself included) that press on through, without nescessarilly demanding everyone donates. If i need a break, I luckily am not leading alone and can share said burden with my fellow leaders.

I still don’t understand how people can’t do guildmissions. They’re easy to complete and give like 50 silver 1 to 3 commendations (easily worth upto a gold) and two rares within 15 minutes.

And favourwise, you dont need that much favor anyway for upgrades. You basically need one mission per upgrade if that.

I wouldn’t recommend joining a big guild, then guild missions are even more of a faceroll. But if you have less than 6 people, you might want to recruit some people through LFG or invite some people. Pugs can in fact join your instanced guild missions if theyre partied with you, the same way they can for guildhalls. I heard that they can even do their own guild mission within another guild’s instance so both guilds get favour.

Banners are made through scribing btw. But i believe you can buy them with commendations as well. But yeah, if you dont do guildmissions all together….. then you dont get any guild related items.

Crafting materials = gold

Passive influence = passive gold income.

Except now people need to be actively donating that income rather than just represent. In fact you could say people can help out multiple guilds easier.

If it was influence, you’d have alot of maxed out guilds now that really didn’t put in any effort or particularly cared about guild halls. Other than saying “It’s maxed, not that anyone actually cares” and now it’s “No one really cares, because they don’t donate”

I think the active component is definitely something that was needed. The problem is, most guilds lack direction, don’t know how to handle actively doing something together that isn’t a guild mission. The system fails when the guild fails.

Gold isn’t needed that much. Crafting materials are much more needed. And it does get easier the more people donate. I don’t think that it always gives you something you want per say, but it does add up in the long run.

Though to be honest, it does take a good deal of sacrifice of materials to get certain upgrades. You need to decide what is worth it and what isnt. Earlier upgrades could have been cheaper. And the donation tool should be more intuitive. The rest is upto the guild. If they require donations, then they’re not very good. Our guild doesn’t require donations though we do set goals.

Scribe is being addressed already. Even if we need to wait until april q2 update. So ArenaNet knows.

To be on topic for once.

The layout of the map really shouldn’t be a problem. I mean I understand it is a casual game with some casual RvR going on, but no matter how many obstacles or non obstacles there are, a fight can happen anywhere at any time. Whether the layout of the land is complicated or super simple, if you have any serious bone for WvW then you should be able to fight on any terrain.

More complicated terrain just means it’s harder to strategize, and the big majority of wvw is zerg versus zerg because it takes too much organisation to make up a valid strategy or players are simply not good enough in PvP to be able to hit a pack of butter without being amongst 30 other people hitting the same pack of butter.

The newer, erm, tools, however, while they should be equal to both sides, do favour defending by alot. And while certain advantages are great, when something is buffed u to the max + all these extra effects you stand very little chance.

So, you have a big ego. I don’t care. And I’m not upset. if you can’t tell coz you or friends that are under an NDA like a poster said, then yea.. good luck before Anet throws you out.

It isn’t about EGO.. Being a large guild leader means I have obligations to the people I play this game with, and that happens to be MANY real family and friends. I am not under a NDA for this particular information, I just don’t throw people under the bus, and No ANet is not throwing me out. LOL

What matters here isn’t who told us, it is up to them who they choose to talk to and when they choose to make announcements, What IS important is the thought they put into the course of direction they are taking now and trying to help them think about the ramifications of the actions they choose to take this time so they can achieve the desired results. They HAVE changed course now and are trying to make this better. They need to understand how to make it better though. The order they do these things is important.

Hence I said, IF. Plus they have thrown whole guilds out of testing once they saw the guild in question didn’t mix well with their intentions. That’s mostly what I was hinting at. I don’t think you’re that special at all. No matter what you think of yourself or whether you feel you represent x amount of people.

Plus it’s always important to know what is the source. Because from what I can tell, you’re not very good at discerning what is fact and what is not. Are you’re saying they told their complete plans, are these set in stone, are these things you say half speculated? Who knows.

It’s very easy to spin a rumour even if you didn’t intend to. So yeah it’s important what is told by who. This is why most companies have an PR department that try their best to convey the right message that the company wants to convey.

You can act it doesn’t matter. But it does. I think it would be a much more constructive discussion if ArenaNet comes out and tells their plans in their version. Rather than some second hand version muddled with opinions.

Obviously to be heard, maybe making sure they don’t make changes tied to timetables too noticable. Or making such changes with more than the convenience in mind.

The vast majority of players haven’t given it a single thought, because they simply get what they want more reliably, which is good! But that doesn’t mean it’s automatically amazing, no need for criticism, its all well.

I can agree it’s definitely an improvement concidering all the aspects of these bosses (i think its nice that the collection is tied to it, its not completely random, they are supposed to be rare events, etc) But I understand where the OP is coming from. Which most reactions here totally fail to see because it’s not important to them, its just a detail in the design.

It’s obviously not going to change back, but I think that too obvious time tables are too predictable and less enjoyable. The OP just raged over this detail in the change of a fairly small part of the game. In that sense, it’s sounding pretty ridiculous. In the grander scope of things, it’s definitely not something I prefer to see though.

Well, I agree that this makes the game more repetitive/predictable/less nice to explore or whatever you call it. It’s the same reason I still don’t really like the world boss schedule. It becomes as exciting as waiting for the bus.

But I don’t think completely random spawns are that big of a deal. If not plain impractical, while adding little to their experience. They’re easily killed. I think i pretty much saw them all and never really thought much of them.

Now if they were stealthed until someone successfully tracked them down (or something thematic like that), that would be interesting. And maybe the mapwide event marker is pushing it. Its a bit more entertaining if it didn’t just pointed it out with a huge marker. It would add some teamwork/community map chat organisation which in my opinion would have been a bit better. (Like a guild bounty) I mean, its for a legendary collection, so it doesn’t need THAT much handholding.

But it’s not “ruined! The end of the world! It needs to change back now!”

@Danikat: Most events are cycling in x amount of time. Its usually less noticeable, as they usually are event chains and they stop cycling if an event isnt done. Dry Top is possibly the worst map regarding event scheduling. But that is not a reason to NOT diversify the event scheduling/cycling/occuring. ArenaNet luckily saw in HoT that event chains are alot more interesting. Though that goes in the other direction, where there are little to no single events. Anyway, going off topic. ^^

That’s what recent Tyrian clothing development gives you. Oiled clothed armour. Linseed oil on your gear is all the rage lately.

Well, this balance change was in since yesterday. It just didn’t make it in the patch notes.

Which obviously no one noticed, because who the hell actually checks their stats in PvP.
So much for serious PvPers.

Obviously because PvP capture and defender don’t work in Stronghold.

And really, since when doing one or a few unranked or ranked matches per day a chore? You have bigger problems with the game if that is a problem.

How do you feel about the pve and wvw dailies?

I’m not sure how those are related to the topic.

But since you asked, some of those take even longer. In fact you need to do several different tasks compared to the PvP dailies. You can play one unranked match and you automatically get two dailies, 3 if you win.

It obviously was faster if you gimmick your way through them on empty Hot Join arenas though. But is that a PvP daily?

Well, like that totally makes a difference. Still the majority uses it in the end. Theres no reason to be hipster about it. You’re totally free to say Ranked Arena Points every single time instead of just pips. Your loss.

If that is a WHOLE Expansion – NO NO NO….

We need more than 4 maps this time – The Desert is 4 maps.

How is the desert 4 maps? There’s no information regarding that whatsoever.

Every word is a word with perverted meaning since language changes over time.

Not sure why its problem anyway.

this is not true and there is a ton of other words which perfectly fit the meaning they gave to the word “pip”

500 years ago english was totally different than now. Anyway, the game using “pip” is totally your problem. Not the game’s problem.

It is literally the least of concerns. In fact the majority of people were using pips themselves. Anet just follow that trend so people don’t get confused.

Tenebrous / Shimmering Crystal nerf?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

FrizzFreston.5290

Info-bump:
You can still harvest both Guild Halls. Just make sure you have different levels of synthesizers. This doesn’t mean the upgrade to a higher tier of materials, but a higher tier of synthesizers. If the synthesizer upgrade is the same in both guilds you cannot harvest in both halls. We upgraded our synthesizers yesterday and now we can harvest in our allied guild again.

5k AP requirement for level 32 fractal

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

Because any arbritrary AP requirement is automatically belittling anyone who doesn’t have said requirement. It’s just the a constant reminder for some that they haven’t done enough achievements and thus are unable to join certain parties.

You could also just ignore this thread all together as it really doesn’t affect whatever requirements people want to set anyway. In fact you can indeed ignore everything one doesn’t like.

Or better yet, since elite specs are so powerful, it’s better to require heart of thorns if you really care about the speed of completion. But i haven’t seen that pop up yet. :p

I guess those guild runs pay off when not everyone has the AR required for level 60s. Not the fastest, sure, but always successful.

Plus 5k AP? I got that like 3 years ago.

Small Guilds earning Favor/GH in HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

FrizzFreston.5290

Why necro this thread? We do all guild missions with just 6 people often enough. The only thing that is a bother is the 5 guild bounties.

Also, you can invite Pugs to guild missions, other guilds to guild missions and do your guild missions like that.
You just need to open the instance for your guild and everyone else in your party can. Or let another guild open it and tag along, and you still get your guild’s mission reward.

The options are there, you just need to pick one.

EDIT: PvE Missions mostly though. Harder WvW or Harder PvP missions can be a tad annoying, but I believe even some of those say minimal 3 people. (And if you win/cap everything and get little opposition it’s obviously easier)

Tenebrous / Shimmering Crystal nerf?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

FrizzFreston.5290

Seems like it, though this hasn’t been the case for too long, so I can’t say it’s a nerf on the crystals too. I used to get 1-2 if any at all while other people got 1-10. Then a few weeks later I got many crystals a day. It really varies alot. Plus it’s really only 10+ when you get the rare occurrence of 10 in one go.

The mining in only one guild hall is possibly so people don’t just guild hop to get the most harvests done, (I believe it was per different tiers of the nodes) rather than joining a guild for guild reasons. At least that’s what I think.

Personally I don’t think it’s too big of a deal. Though it can be pretty annoying if you want all the weapons and guild armor and such.

I think that’s very sad. Because there’s always that one person that is willing to help. Simply to play together with. And you don’t need 4 other friends all the time either. Just the one to point you in the right direction. And even then, a guild or friend to simply chat to in the game without doing anything special can make all the difference. There are people who do mostly that, while hanging out in Divinity’s Reach or Lion’s Arch.
