Being able to buy them would really improve the quality of life of verdant brink.

The fun thing is, that you don’t need many decorations to get to the top of the guild hall.

The route is very long if you only get to the second floor with decorations. But it’s obvious a developer made it so it’s possible. There are some iffy bits here and there. that just do better with one decoration. But getting to the big tree on top (under it) is definitely possible without dozens of decorations from the golden dragon statue (if you know where that is).

Should any skins be exclusive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

There’s different kinds of exclusive.

- Exclusively available at a specific type of content. (Wvw armor/pvp armor/backpieces/Raid armor etc)
- Exclusive one-time event items (Spinal backitems, Living world season 1 items that aren’t available anymore, rare halloween skins etc.)

I think the first one is fine, as it’s not unobtainable or unavailable (other than not being able to pass the challenge or refusing to play content). The second might not be unobtainable because TP, but at the very least the price just keeps going up and up, while the original effort involved doesn’t warrant for such a price. It’s really just people ripping eachother off by taking a chance and keeping or upping the lowest price.

Making something available again just means that the price doesn’t keep increasing needlessly.

I dunno, I understand the high prices for some of them, but some are nested and thus I feel very discouraged making any of those. THe problem mostly being losign the previous to upgrade to the next paying triple the costs, if you’re lucky.

I think most plants and flags fall into a category that I’m saying. I don’t ever make these, they are really expensive and don’t provide me with a significantly nice decoration that stands out against the rest.

PvEers being picked on for not owning HoT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

I quite like HoT areas. But the dailies are fairly limitting.

Maybe it seems fair on the surface that each game mode gets an equal amount of dailies. But PvE is so huge that regardless of opinion of the areas that PvE dailies don’t even begin to cover the interest of PvE players.

PvP and WvW dailies are like the old dailies, play anything → get them done.

PvE dailies are way more specific and make you go out of the way of your usual things.

World Linking Beta

FrizzFreston.5290

It would be nice to know the linked world beforehand so we can organize as to best avoid any unnecessary clashes and offer any new friends in the partner worlds help wherever they may need/want.

reaching out to people, helping them out, giving them TS info, and organizing in a large scale as to best avoid giant queues all night (particularly true in T1) all takes a significant amount of time we dont have if were kept in the dark about things.

While I at first agree with the organizing part and such, on the other side you obviously have the guilds that are totally going to take advantage and switch and bandwagon to a certain server.

The solution could be to disallow switching server for the first match or well into the first match and then let us know beforehand for organizing purposes.

But it’s all very sensitive information in the wrong hands really.

Compensation regarding scribe/decorations?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

The cost of scribing in gold is not a constant. People donated to their guild specified scribes. People did wvw only people did decorations only. There’s likely people who switched guilds, left guilds, joined guilds. There’s many scribes who did scribing for multiple guilds as well.

There’s so many different scenarios which a specific refund would not cover all. They would basically favor certain people while not “refunding” others.

However, some sort of “present” for every guild regarding scribing would be nice. But then we wouldn’t be talking about a refund or compensation anymore.

Not to mention that there is an apparent size that isn’t qualifying as a guild by his own standards, and not the game’s standard.

Guild halls aren’t a great central meeting place that really brings people together. Nor is it designed to be a place that allows for a ton of user creativity. It’s a prefabricated map that is 100% gold sink and allows for minimal creativity. That’s not attractive.

If you dont see how a largely empty map can’t be seen as an empty drawing board then i dunno what to tell you.

There is loads of space and loads of material to play with. A fully empty map would have been bad. Not everyone has the materials to fill it. and a full map obviously is too full.

So yes it IS designed for alot of creativity. If you don’t see that. then that probably means you lack the creativity.

Upcoming changes in Spring Quarterly Update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

Hi all,

Two weeks ago I posted that we were starting integration and final testing for the Spring Quarterly Update. It’s been two busy weeks. The quarterly update is through QA and looking good. We’re going to announce the release date tomorrow.

As we prep for release, you’ll notice that we’re not doing the series of advance blog posts that we had done for some prior releases. Hopefully that’s not too surprising; I’ve written a few times since taking this role that I think our job is to delight you with what we ship, not with talk and promises.

With everything prepped now, let’s have some fun together and see some hints of what’s coming, and then we’ll see you in the game on release day.

Mo

Okay then.

That pretty much went like:
- We’re not going to talk about anything but we ARE going to announce the release date of the patch. Yay!
- Reactions: why isnt this just the 19th then? Its the 19th isnt it?
- It’s the 19th!!!! Wooo! have a 20 second teaser video!
- Reactions: Yeah… uhhh.. we pretty much figured… and this video doesn’t really tease us with anything.. it is so obscure it leaves us to wonder whether a series of inkblots wouldn’t have been more enlightening.

You really can’t tease players with no actual information.
I know the saying is “a picture says more than a thousand words”.. but this is more like a puzzle with all but 3 puzzle pieces missing.

Personal banks from guilds are still possible. Its 50 gold. without guild hall for the first 50 slots. Sure the other 200 are behind guild level 20 and 32, but saying it’s impossible is not true at all.

The argument that Guilds fail because they dont have your nearly free 5 banktabs is pretty ridiculous though. Obviously gaming the system to not having to buy more bag space or bankslots.

You’re not looking for a better guild system at all. You just want more storage space. That’s all it really is to you, then you don’t have a better guild system at interest.

Plus if that’s your reason to stop playing, then I think thats pretty silly. Just buy a few bank tabs instead. They recently increased the cap on those.

Very little reason to complain in my opinion.

Why HoT was less than half a expansion...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

lol, I remember when HoT was announced and they were giving us a little details on what was coming.

A lot of us were asking where is all the content?! Surely this isnt it
And as usual the fanboys all rose up saying Anet wouldnt give us all the details, there was obviously a tonne more in the expansion, and other things would be released throughout the year.

Now that they know there isnt any more stuff, they only thing these fanboys can say now is “either buy it or dont buy it”

I still wouldnt call HoT a half an expansion, call it what it is, DLC! A small update charged at unreasonable prices!

Bam. +1

And yet I never said buy it or don’t buy it. Most DLCs aren’t four zones and a new class and a new PvP type and a new map for WvW and precursor crafting and guild halls. Like it or not all that stuff was added, plus the story, elite speicalizations, and a completely changed Fractal system, plus masteries including gliding.

You can call it a small DLC but it doesn’t make it a small DLC.

This isn’t reasonable by any standard I know of.

At least we all agree that it’s closer to DLC than an expansion.

There’s no size limitations of what can be called DLC and what can be called expansion. In most cases, DLC is basically an expansion you download from the internet.

So what you’re saying there is basically empty words.

But I’m already enjoying this game, thanks. No need for a “next game.” The content is just fine where it is.

Point is, most of the players seem to think otherwise, up to the point that Anet acknowledged they have a problem. The content staying as it is means game getting dead. Then you will need to find a next one.

Just less servers, and less players doesn’t mean you would need to find a next game.

Wordings as the game getting “dead” is mostly preaching to the choir, it’s not convincing anyone who is actually playing the game.

I could play this game easily with 4 other players. And my server was not too active before the mega server and we got things done just fine. In fact when maps are closing, I still get things done with my friends just fine. Furthermore, I get more things done and more enjoyment when not everything is being zerged to death. Events are more up, the event chains can be played through from start to finish. I personally don’t have a real problem with the game being emptier.

Anyway, the game is dead once it’s not being played at all.

I duoed most events in HoT. Some events are too hard to do without a partner, but most are fine with 2 or 3 people, if not soloable.

That doesn’t mean they are easy though. Sometimes I need to run from the waypoint many a few times. It’s not a walk in the park. But personally I don’t mind it up to the point of frustration.

But if I see any event chain being run by 6 or more people it’s usually scaling up already, usually making it too easy for my taste. Which is where it balances the other way.

I dunno, I would personally suggest to get 1 or 2 friends to join you. Sometimes it’s not nescessary as other soloers or duoers are about, but having a few to run events with makes the game alot more fun.

I still wouldnt call HoT a half an expansion, call it what it is, DLC! A small update charged at unreasonable prices!

The problem is that it’s obviously a fundamental expansion with alot of tech that usually takes the most time to produce, that will carry on for years and future expansions to come. This doesn’t give the content creators alot of time to create actual content being held back by that, even more so with all the bugs and miscalculations coming from said new features. Hence the first quarter patch didn’t add much content either. And the next focusses on rebalancing HoT, scribe and whatever else.

All the while, as a player, you have fairly little play space that actually has said new tech.
So, the price might be “worth it” in terms of things added to the game, except to your average gamer this really means very little, as there’s “not enough content”(subjectively) using the new systems.

Though some great content has come from HoT. Forexample, the guild hall has festival decorations added which are deemed really amazing by some, which, by a stretch, are actually part of HoT. Obviously any future updates could be explained as not part of the HoT package, but the causal relation is there.

Tactivators alphine BL? Yes or No

in WvW

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

In absence of a tactivator system, any objective has three variants based on tier, and the variables are really just how much the non-player elements (walls/gates, guards) might slow down a capture, or if defender players are around, a little more siege (cannons/mortars/oil) might be available to them.

I do like that tactivators introduce some variation into the objectives that we’ve probably all captured dozens if not hundreds of times. The floor plans sure aren’t changing, nor are the wood/stone/metal gates and walls. An objective becomes a little more scary if you know there’s Iron Guards to slow down your force long enough for the defender zerg to maybe race in to reply, or if you’re baited in to an ambush, Chilling Fog might punish the fact you committed.

As it stands with thin populations, I’d suggest it’s very easy to take objectives whether with a duo, havoc or a full zerg, well more than half the time there won’t be a sentry in a given objective (even in T2), there may be hardly anyone on the map, period. If one or two defenders do manage to respond, great, they may have a tactic to activate to deter invaders, they will also have some objective aura to boost their vitality, power and whatever else to help them punch above their weight so it’s not just a glorified PvD looking capture.

The tactics sound like they’re getting some rebalancing, much like the ingredient costs for scribing to even make the schematic stuff that goes into a tactivator slot. It’s especially the extending of cooldown which I figure will encourage or put more value on “baiting” a tactic being activated, which we already do (feint SMC to get a panicked airship pull, maybe we’ll be coming back in 3ish minutes when we know it’s on cooldown… or taking your garri in a BL because we know you’re all in SMC waiting for us to come back). Not that Airship will ever be a thing in Alpine, it’s SMC only, but we all understand baiting a bomb, the non-passive tactics are the same deal.

Wow, and I thought tactical strategic thinking of tactivators was all but dead. Well maybe not really, but at least impopular.

Definitely refreshing between all the negative reactions.

SAB temporary content - sincere question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

Thats not true. There basically would still be a content drought as a content drought means no NEW content. There’s enough content in the game to play, just not everyone is playing it. Even if that content would still be in the game, it would be at least a year old.

I’m not saying that LS1 should have been permanent and then they should have done what they did afterwards anyway. I’m saying LS1 should have been permanent and then they should have continued with the LS1 model.

Imagine if every two weeks from the start of LS1 we’d received permanent updates on the scale of the Molten Alliance dungeon, or the Marionette, or the Silverwastes. Heck, not even every two weeks, every month.

The game would be crammed with content. We’d have dungeons to run, SAB to play, the Queen’s Gauntlet to try, Fractals to do (remember they came in LS1 too), new maps to explore… Who knows what else we could have had.

Instead, we have very little from Season 1, new players need to buy a lot of Season 2, HoT was a disappointment, and the most exciting thing we’ve had in a year and a half is that they turned on content that they chose to turn off in 2013.

And I’m saying the game is crammed with content right now. Which is where your argument falls apart.

Obviously if they continued with every two weeks new content that would cram the game full of content. Not that that is in any way realistic. Nor did they really do new content every two weeks. Some updates were very small and others very grindy. Not all were successful, but merely played because of their temporary availability.

Plus that second reason I stated, is still applicable, they couldn’t maintain that speed of development, without serious loss of quality, bugs and burning themselves out, and burning players out. So that would just lead to at least half the same problems.

That doesn’t mean there wasn’t good content in there obviously. But to say it would be crammed with good replayable content, while looking at the current permanent content with alot more development time. I dunno, but I don’t think what you say about LS1 being permanent and every two weeks would do the game any good as much as you say it would do.

Why does this game even have "Shortbows"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

If shortbow should be removed because only two professions can us it then mace should follow suit and be removed too.

Or you know, its a reason to put in elitespecs that use a shortbow. And maces.

Stylistically mace is the one-handed counterpart to the two-handed hammer. Shortbow is the two-handed counterpart to the two-handed longbow. All professions (2+rev) that can use a mainhand mace can also use a hammer. Warrior can also use offhand mace. The only profession that uses both short and longbows is Ranger. It’s not a valid comparison. But I agree it’s too late to undo now, so might as well up the SB user numbers with elite specs.

I was being sarcastic. Removing any weapon because only x profession use it is a silly argument. It would mean introducing any new types of weapon would need to be used by multiple professions to be “good”. Uniqueness and originality are not something to be shunned in any game.

SAB temporary content - sincere question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SAB is only a cool feature because it is temporary. Anet understood quite early that temp content is the best experience for players hence all LS1.
How many speak about Marionette as the most exciting boss they fought in GW2? Yet when Vinewrath was was released, everybody mentioned how it reminds the Marionette… but after 6 months few people still care about it.
Tower of Nightmare was super fun ! But it was just a zerg fest in a small map. The fact it lasted only 2 weeks makes it one of the funniest experience in the game.

If you want to continue to love SAB so much, it is better that it remains a temporary content.

LS1 failed because it was temporary. That’s why LS2 was permanent, and then the LS model was replaced with an expansion model.

People still fight Vinewraith. Heck, Dry Top and the Silverwastes are two of the best things to come out of the Living World. They still get played today. Yes, the Marionette is remembered fondly, but that’s because it was part of a bigger and more exciting world, with constant updates. Not because it was temporary. Tequatl still gets killed many times a day, and it’s arguable a less interesting fight.

As to SAB only being a cool feature because it’s temporary, that’s just not true. It’s also weird how many of the people invested in keeping SAB turned off seem to be people who don’t actually like it that much. I don’t love WvW, but I don’t try and get it shut down eleven months of the year.

Living world 1 didn’t fail. Just a general opinion that kept popping up was that people were missing out. And ArenaNet was being strained by trying to push our releasesevery two weeks. Thats all that happened. Other than that every release there were lots of people playing it. Maybe due to the being available of a two week period only. But definitely popular regardless.

The reason why temporarily activation of SAB is better is just that it makes it so players don’t get burned out on tbe content.

Why does this game even have "Shortbows"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If shortbow should be removed because only two professions can us it then mace should follow suit and be removed too.

Or you know, its a reason to put in elitespecs that use a shortbow. And maces.

Tactivators alphine BL? Yes or No

in WvW

Disabling tactivators in Alpine would lead to a huge logistics problem from guilds who have put in lots effort and are putting effort in right now to get said upgrades in their guild halls.

While I agree that these tactical advantages should be more universally available to all guilds, and that there may be some really badly balanced ones, doesn’t mean they could simply ship Alpine without the support of these tactics and tools.

Instead of destructive feedback (Throw it out, disable it, etc) it’s much better to come up with suggestion that doesn’t immediately screw everyone else but yourself over.

Also, WvW upgrades are definitely one of the cheaper ones. I don’t know if the scribe update will lower the costs to make paper for example, but if it does, this automatically decreases the cost to activate many of the scribe recipes.

It’s not everything, but it would definitely be a step in the right direction.

Legendary weapons

But we did get it in the state it was advertised. Legendary weapons where always coming later.

No. That information has appeared only after the first wave of prepurchases. The first information was that a new set of legendaries was one of major parts of HoT expansion.
Also, “later” is not the same as “possibly never”.

Which is just the general take on it anyway. SAB was also coming back possibly never. Yet here we are.

So. In the end. Their regular interval being 1 legendary per 6 months means you can only complain when they dont “deliver” 1 legendary this year oktober.

Since this doesn’t state how they are delivered exactly, they can even make it a gemstore item or a super rare drop.

If you want to be really technical about this anyway.

The reason I (intially) support Guild Wars 2 is because ArenaNet takes risks.
Sometimes those pay out and sometimes they do not. This means that when something gets cancelled that is entirely possible.

Taking risks is okay if the only one affected is you.
Taking risks while there’s the customers money in play – that is not okay.
They should deliver what they were (well, still are) advertising.
They should develop this expac to the state they were promoting it first, before taking risks,
because when people bought it, they bought it knowing they would get the promoted features.
There was no mentioning of “we might change our plan completelly and not deliver most of them”.
Especially considering that the legendary advertisment post was released in the beginning of october, 2 weeks before the release of the expac.

I’m just stating what I’m okay with. That you’re not okay with it is your opinion.

Coming out here and saying they are lying or don’t care is just not true. They take the risks to change the game to bring us refreshing and exciting content.

With ArenaNet you can expect the worst yes, but there have been many things that were pretty amazing. Which, funnily enough is when ArenaNet doesn’t take the safe road. Most of the festivals and mini games are the things that include a great deal of passion and a even bigger risks are the ones that pay off.

If Josh Foreman wasn’t able to take that risk to make SAB, we would’ve never had it.
Because narrative people took a risk with HoT story it was short and missed alot of details that players would have liked.

It’s a double edged sword. It has it’s good sides and bad sides.

That pretty much sums up Guild Wars 2 post launch. Well said.

Posted in a very biased and negative view. For almost anything he said was a disaster I have found many people saying they thoroughly enjoyed said content.

Not to mention his solutions would basically mean no new content for the next year.

Though, yes, improvement is needed.

Upcoming changes in Spring Quarterly Update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

FrizzFreston.5290

Its sad that I need to quote it for you really:

It actually takes quite a bit of time to dust off old content and bring it up to the current game state, so it won’t happen in time for the quarterly release. Instead we’ll launch the quarterly update with improvements to Desert, use that as an opportunity to get the community’s feedback on those changes, then we’ll swap to Alpine when it’s ready.

The borderlands change obviously being the change to Alpine. But sure edit it.

That confirms what I said.

“We’ll launch the quarterly update with improvements to the Desert…”

Yup, it confirms what we both said. Your first edit said that alpine was part of the update, hence I quoted it. But then you edited it to correct which makes it a bit silly. xD All is good.

This is obviously the things we need to know before the update is out. The rest is nice to know but not as important.

He’s basically saying: Stop scribing, Finish those fractal achievements and we are making the borderlands change except it wont make the April Update.

Is it me or are onlh half the ppl able to read?
