Balance Revisited / Re-opening CDI

FrizzFreston.5290

You do remember that the feedback of a vocal minority who participated in the CDI was responsible for some of the bad decisions we had with the Hot expac which have to be polished and reworked the coming year?

Yes, collaboration and consensus is not perfect, but I’d argue it’s better than having 1 – 3 people who don’t seem to really play or understand the game to design balance.

I’d also argue that the original layout of the CDI wasn’t perfect either. 200 words per section? and on top of that, people couldn’t criticize each other’s ideas.

If you want any CDI to be taken seriously, you don’t take the stance that the developers are in any way incompetent. That is never going to work. It’s like watching over someone’s shoulder while they work providing criticizing remarks at every step knowing that you don’t trust the man at work.

Just imagine yourself in that position and then you might understand why it doesn’t work or why not every developer wants to come here to comment on every step they take or want to take.

When you say that developers don’t know their own game, then a CDI is far off the table and there must be some sort of mutual respect or understanding of the direction the developers want to go to.

It’s not noticable because there isn’t (m)any responses, but it has been pointed out by communication officials that they do read the forums. As such the forums are in a way their own CDI.

That said, with a few hundred people with different opinions, there’s no way you will ever going to “fix” the game to your personal ideals. That’s just not realistic to expect. Your ideal is a niche amongst the sea of many different other opinions.

Gliding in Central Tyria - not strict enough

I always thought that any jumping achievement is totally cheesable. Whether its mesmer portal experimental rifles teleport rifles rocket jumps or guides and now gliding. It really is upto you how you get these. I literally didn’t get the golden badges since gliding. I was missing like two or three without any guide. So I was more than happy to guide myself to the last few and used gliding for one.

Personally i never complain when something is cheesable. Only your own achievements are what’s important. Especially when there’s mesmer portal which just helps people get this with literally skipping everything.

It’s funny to me that no gliding zones are a thing but no portal zones aren’t. I dunno why that’s not possible.

Watery Grave

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

The problem is that watery grave only appears after 75%. This usually means after the first battery event. Any map trying to defeat him that gets to the 75 % and successfully does the battery event pretty much instantly zergs him down without Tequatl ever comming out of stun.

With such a long stunphase it’s very drustrating to try anything Watery Grave related. My GF needs just the achievement, funnily enough the last one she needs. Because failing tequatl just enough for this skill to appear is very frustrating. Too little dps and you don’t get to the first phase and after that its really easy and you do too much. Which is entirely dependant on the map you’re in.

The easiest fix would be to add watery grave at least once in the first phase.

Please no more zones like Tangled Depths

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

FrizzFreston.5290

Tangled depths is hard to learn to get your way around but Nuhoch Wallow mastery (whatever its called) is making this map so easy to traverse it’s barely noticeable.

If this map was any different, then it would be pretty bland. Right now it has the most diversity in areas. The problem might be getting around, but if they can make more maps like these I would be totally up for that. The exploration on this map is simply amazing.

Though if you want to quickly run through, you’re going to have a hard time. I think people are used to gendarran fields when getting from A to B is a straight line and the most important feature you see is random gathering nodes in an empty field.

FrizzFreston.5290

I’m not sure how someone can take you too seriously when February is 1/4th through 2016.
Which is just one of the problems with your post.

Other things include:
- Edge of the Mists isn’t played as WvW. It’s mostly played as a karma chain. Mostly because there’s no reason to win the 3 hour match, and because the teams are full on pugs. That said I personally think WvW isn’t that amazing in confronting people in any combat. If it isn’t the tactic itself to just avoid the enemy all together most of the time.
- PvE players aren’t automatically bad PvP players, mechanics are the same. It’s very possible that hardcore PvE players can be really good PvP players as well. Given the incentive these PvE players like (legendary backitem) I would say the PvP leagues were a success for that matter in bringing new people to the scene. The PvP scene in GW2 is fairly small so any newer players can rise through the ranks pretty fast if they are that good. Whether they actually care for it is another matter.
- Raids being designed for exotic is indeed a problem. But instead of requiring ascended, it could be interesting to see if it’s possible to nerf any ascended to exotic stats instead. Imo making raids ascended exclusive doesn’t make raids better at all. It just creates an unnecessary gear-check.
- Being as good as you claim to be obviously has it’s downsides. If there’s no challenge left because it’s all too easy (or too time intensive) doesn’t mean the game is going downhill. I personally see it as able to complete a puzzle and knowing the solution just on a more complex level. Hence you don’t like to run with pugs because you know it can be done so much faster and easier and time efficient. Though I would say that is ultimately more challenging. (Saying that it’s impossible is imo not thinking like someone who claims to be hardcore. You should have said it’s pretty time intensive and annoying instead. :P)
- Claiming everyone thinks like that is obviously because you surround yourself with people like yourself. Not everyone thinks the same nor has the same opinion. There’s loads of people who think HoT is too hard.
- That you only run swamp in fractals and then claim it’s repetitive is pretty funny, considering you claim yourself to be hardcore. Doesn’t that just mean you’re willing to get easy completions, but if it takes a bit more time or challenge you suddenly back out? If that’s the case, then ArenaNet needs to really buff up the swamp fractal.

There’s also some good points in there, though there’s more people than just the hardcore PvE players.

Contacting CS seems to me to be entirely unnecessary in this case.

That said, I find it indeed strange that you can learn recipes on characters that only can use 1/3rd of the recipes. TBH the whole 10k karma thing is also pretty much paying for a systems it is really easy to make mistakes in.

You don’t even know what you’re talking about.

Just taking your whole “this is a void statement, no one knows everything”-comment for example. I obviously am posting in a game forum, a gw2 forum, on a developers response, regarding a specific subject in the game which is quite technical. I kind of expected you to understand that when I said that Colin indeed doesn’t know everything, meant that he doesn’t know all the exact details of what each person in the company is doing. (That’s why you don’t cut on sentence out of context, btw)

If the person took a year, I’m willing to believe that. Was it possible in a shorter time than that? I have no clue. Hell, if I search Network server culling on Google the stuff on gamedev forums sound like that it’s not that simple to solve at all, but is mostly very technical. If I would take anything with a grain of salt, it’s some random post on some niche back-alley forum.

You need to stop making up some random story what is going on behind the scenes, just because you don’t understand what is really going on.

If I recall correctly Colin said that the culling fix took an entire year of work for one of their senior engineers.
That means either he just made coffee breaks 75% of the time or something about their code is severely broken which makes changes take for ever.

Exactly. We can all agree that Colin needs to stop making kitten up, or acting like he knows what the hell is happening around him, and instead should just start apologizing and being silent.

Wow. “We all” is like you and one other person, OMG thats like the entire world population man!

I agree that Colin probably doesn’t know everything, but him trying to bring us information he does know is probably the last thing he does need to stop doing. And time spend apologizing is equally wasting when there’s always something in the game someone doesn’t like.

Exactly … so is this a case of poster can’t or not willing to? We know the answer. Those hours and content in Core mean nothing.

Not that I agree with the sentiment of the title. But that does sort of show that something is off with the difficulty in HoT. :p Namely the pacing.

Crystalline Ore and guildhall vendors

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

FrizzFreston.5290

[…]

That’s not true, you get around 30-50 ores per 2h run, depending how lucky you are with the 10x nodes. I farmed myself easily 100 nodes with 3 runs. That’s about 360 ores in 24h for worst case.

No. I don’t. I’m getting 0-1 ore per pod, most of the time 0, and that’s when I see any, and my left hand’s little finger hurts already enough from keeping Ctrl pressed and not seeing any ever. And the map closes right after the end, so there’s no time to go look for more, you are limited to the ones you find on your way.

The design of the map forces people to choose between helping in events and go look for pods and complete the map.

The ore from the pods should be a random bonus, noxious pods should give at least one ore, the main ore reward should be guaranteed based on personal participation and come from doing events, and the map should stay open at least 40 minutes after the boss fight. Then we’d start getting closer to being reasonable.

There’s 5-10 over the whole map at any time. But most pods are actually after defeating the mouth. Then each bonus boss area has about another dozen of pods. Some of those require higher masteries. Some don’t require anything.

Not sure how you only get so little. Or you never did the meta. I only done the meta once and those 15 minutes was enough for me to go to these huge kitten arrows on the map and actually farm some rewards from those.

I agree though. 15 minutes seemed really short for a “get your reward time”. It is really double to defeat the main challenge and then getting to the rewarding areas isa challenge on top of that.
Obviously, only regarding the pods, there is a boss chest. But still.

FrizzFreston.5290

Meh, it seems the only argument you have is that Dragon’s Stand isn’t fun. That’s not a good enough reason to me to “just remove the ore requirement”. A certain amount of effort should still be involved imo.

Right now for one weapon or armor piece you need about 1 to 3 successful runs. That’s, effortwise, not really all that much at all. Plus once you have the recipe its unlocked forever.

Of course, if you have a personal problem with Dragons Stand, then youre pretty much screwed. Looking into some other form of currency that would replace the ore requirement, like from each of the maps you can buy a Guild Sigil or so which costs something like 10 ore or 100 airship oil or 75 auric dust or 25 leyline sparks. And the price would be like 4 of these sigils and 10 commendations (yay arbritrary numbers!) Then you would have at least half a reasonable suggestion.

I tell you what if there is more for WvW than what was stated for Q1 then I will send you 10g. I would love to hear from you when the devs surprised us with something that wasn’t a bug. You stated that people where making up random stuff – when they weren’t. In fact it was easily accessible information that you chose to ignore. Have a nice day.

I read the Q1 state of the game blog many times, I read the post Gaile made before that about WvW Sneak-Peak (Basically previewing what is in the blog as well). I have no idea why you think I would ignore those. Hell, this threads title is stating The Shatterer update, which is only IN the blog.

Anyway, there’s no notion of some fact that there won’t be more changes, no notion that there won’t be balance changes or anything like that. Obviously what the devs told us is out there, and I’m not gonna dispute that. I merely dispute it when someone states it as fact that “there won’t be more.” Because that would impressive to know.

FrizzFreston.5290

The WvW updates next week are minimal. It’s mostly stuff we’ve had before, we’ve had PPK before, the change to upgrades is a mix of what we have now and what we used to have, catapult supply cost is being reduced after they’d increased it without warrant and the rally change, which to be fair, does sound nice.

I’d be surprised if they add anything else, hell, I’d be shocked.

Yeah, I’d want more developers involved in WvW regardless of their focus in the game, especially if it’d mean updating the game and potentially making it a great game mode. They can’t exactly make it much worse than it currently is. The current WvW devs have made some questionable calls before, maybe some fresh eyes would do them some good.

Yeah, I’m just thinking that they could rebalance some of the new things at least. Not just WvW and PvP but also some guild upgrading things, or scribing stuff (which also includes WvW stuff). Tweaking the numbers should be possible without redesigning the whole thing. I mean, I don’t WvW much other than guild missions, but I definitely see some of the problems here on the forums that can easily be rebalanced without removing them entirely.

As for fresh eyes, there have been questionable calls across the whole game. :p I’m not sure that it would really change that much. Plus it seems to me that the big overhaul would involve overhauling the servers. Changing developers will only make stuff take even longer at this point. And it has been already taking too long.

I still find it funny how Dungeons “died” with merely a nerf to their gold reward. Not much else has changed. Maybe they could update their token rewards.

They should have increased the token awards. Thing is, Anet explicitly doesn’t want people to run dungeons anymore. They just didn’t have the balls to cut them entirely, so they gutted their rewards to encourage people to buy HoT drive people towards fractals.

It’s obvious to me that people mostly did them for the rewards anyway. Especially with speed runs, people selling them etc. It wasn’t about the dungeon experience anymore, just about the amount of gold. They didn’t explicitly changed the dungeons, you still can get pretty nice rewards from the dungeon vendor. But somehow, the gold gets cut and dungeons aren’t played anymore. It’s just hilarious how blind people are when there’s flat virtual cash involved.

It just shows what was wrong with the dungeons to begin with. In my opinion anyway.

Not me. I like fractals better because there’s always been more variety and more interesting stories, not tied to the personal story.

(I wouldn’t mind another set of armors & weapons tho.)

And only loosely tied to the world. Granted that the stories in dungeons are pretty straightforward. Which Arah definitely wins over fractals and any other dungeon storywise.

Fractals are less interesting in the grand scope of things. It would’ve been nicer if the whole dungeon exploring happened on a higher level.

FrizzFreston.5290

While the new borderlands are very pretty to look at in some areas (but not others), and have unique towers and tower lords, the main thing people don’t like about them is the maze-like feel and constricting passages, or “choke points”, as well as a complete lack of open space for any type of large scale fighting. Well, I take that back. There IS a large open space, but it’s on top of what used to be knows as “Bay”, now known as Undercroft, or “Fire Keep”, but there’s almost no reason to go there unless you want to take the shrine located there, and it’s not really flat enough for a good fight. In Alpine BL, we had lots and lots of nice flat land to fight in. Even the south towers had a lot of nice flat area in front of them where many battles would be fought, with enemies coming from their spawn point to attack the tower, or on their way to hit Hills or Bay. None of those types of places exist in the new BL’s.

However, my server has been fluctuating between tier 4 and 5, and we see a LOT of action in the desert borderlands. Groups of 5-10 have been trying with mixed success to take the Air and Fire keeps (old Hills and Bay), and because of the sheer size of those keeps, they are sometimes difficult to defend. Larger groups have better chance of success, of course, but if you and 2 others manage to take the Air or Fire keeps while a few are defending it, it’s quite a battle. If more defenders show up, of course, you’ll get stomped. And not all of this action is in “prime time”, which is nice.

There are still problems with the waypoints that no one likes. Example- in your OWN BORDERLAND you cannot use the waypoints in old Hills or Bay locations, meaning you have to run from the very top of the map (where the Orb used to be) or Rampart, which is the old Garrison, provided it’s not contested. And because of the maze-like feel, the run back is never a straight line, like we were used to in Alpine. If you take Air or Fire keeps on an opponent’s borderland, you get the waypoint right away.

Then there’s the Oasis event in the middle of the map that happens every few hours. If an enemy completes the event on your map, a big laser hits all the gates on opponent held keeps and towers and damages them a certain percentage based on the level of upgrade at the time. Non upgraded gates will get blown wide open, whereas reinforced gates get damaged to 75% health. In non-prime time, if the Oasis event gets done multiple times, you may visit your home borderland to find fully upgraded towers with gates having 90% damage. Many people will claim that this event causes lag (lots of threads about it), but I’m a firm believer that it’s the stability change and population increase (as explained in some older posts that you can google) that causes the lag at the Oasis event.

Then there’s the whole scribe thing. Remember when you used to claim a camp for +5? Not only is that behind the HoT paywall, it’s also behind a scribe grind that is insanely expensive, unless you have an entire guild dedicated to helping your guild’s scribe reach that level. And woe to you if you have one scribe your guild helps reach level 400 scribe and then that person falls in love with another game and is sick of waiting for Anet to fix everything they broke and then LEAVES this game, completely uninstalling. Bye-bye scribe! Now your guild has to level up another scribe, and that’s not cheap. It happened to my main WvW guild.

TL;DR- Anet messed up.

I think you’re probably the most right here. It’s mostly the navigational problems of the BLs and the silliness with guild upgrades to unlock previous functionality (why the hell) and scribing. (in fact scribing recipes themselves aren’t too bad, but levelling them and unlocking them is)

I must say though, the new BL being not flat enough sounds like bogus. There being too many chokepoints can be part of a reason, but like you said, that in fact enhanced small group play. (not that they have many perks left) and WvW has been stuck in blob vs blob for so long that it’s too weird to change that. However, ease of movement between objectives (not at) should be improved on the BL maps.

Requesting Feature: Private Commander Tag

in WvW

Posted by: FrizzFreston.5290

FrizzFreston.5290

We’ve avoided adding this feature because we don’t believe it would be healthy for WvW. While we can appreciate why some players would want a feature like this, lots of other players only engage in WvW when, upon entering a WvW map, immediately see a commander icon to follow. We try and avoid adding features that can be used to intentionally exclude other players.

Avoiding to make features that can be used to intentionally exclude players sounds great on the surface, but the nature of any group excludes others. It’s like communism, great idea on the surface, but it doesn’t really work out because it’s not designed with human nature in mind.

Though I must say, it seems to me, most players develop their own interesting ways of having said tagless or especially tagged guild groups. (I quite like how there’s a server with such a tag systen)

If you don’t want tagless commanders, what about an icon for Guilds especially? Like a small guild shield. Also showing whether a squad is locked or not locked can help to show whether it’s invite only or locked. (Strange features with the presented argument in mind)

If the idea of a player entering a WvW map and not seeing any commander there is such a problem. Then aren’t there other systems that can alleviate that problem? (Showing how many players are on the map, Showing where they are, either precisely or roughly)

I’m looking forward to some new WvW. It does sound like they removed the whole original structure and designed WvW from the ground up. At least that would explain why it is taking so long. I am looking forward to that, whether the WvW update is too late or not according to some people, I haven’t touched WvW seriously in ages anyway. (saying it’s too late now seems out of place for me.)

Anyway, what I’m wondering is whether Q2 will get a similar blog post? because it definitely sounds like it.

I wish they kept the decoration option in the guild hall available. It’s a lot of work to merely put these advanced decorations together. I totally would have bought more pumpkins or snowpiles, even if it isn’t halloween anymore. It would keep the price of said “worthless” but not really worthless items at a nice level.

As for a skritt “trash item” collecting stuff. It seems a good idea, but if there’s achievements tied to it I think it would miss the point. It would turn into “trash your items for achievements points.” which means everyone wants to thrown away their items at it.

Still a nice suggestion though. I would tag up for guildies only if I could. Especially with squad UI. It’s nice to make a big squad for the guild without necessarily wanting to put myself as a commander for meta events.

Allied targetting is hardly nescessary, unless you are incapable to target with your mouse.
But even then, most healing is still built in each profession, and usually only time it’s needed is when someone didn’t dodge at the right time. Though there are occasions that is not completely possible, like in raids.

Instead of all the “you deserve it if you dont read everything” idiots here (You seriously lack any basic empathy whatsoever in this case. It’s basically pointing laughing and saying “Haha, you’re dumb.” because someone doesn’t know something.), I think the OP has a point to some extend.

I can say in map chat, you can type /wiki searchword almost every day and find someone who didn’t know. Hell I didn’t even think of using shift rightclick to ping the item after the /wiki myself. (After 3 years)

I think a rightclick on the item, and then a menu option to “Look this item up on the wiki” would go miles.

Also a tip when destroying or salvaging a valuable item would be helpful. I think the whole “Are you sure?” thing loses its effect when you have no idea what else to do with it. Or better, instead of “yes”/“no” also a “wiki” button there could be interesting.

You fail to understand. People like this aren’t happy if they can stay away from the content. They want no one to have it. Because otherwise it ruins THEIR game.

I like to give people a benefit of the doubt, before putting them in a box with a certain tag on it.

Please don’t ruin core Tyria with gliding… it will ruin JPs make things that used to be challenging easy… and I just plain don’t like gliding… it is a horribly overused mechanic in the new maps… doing jumping puzzles in the new maps are painful since you start gliding when you don’t want to. Gliding makes me not want to visit the HoT maps, if you ruin core Tyria with it where will I go?

Please I beg you… don’t add gliding to core Tyria.

If it is a mastery track, you can always not get it.

I would have said it would be the amount of linseed oil and sand paper. But then I forgot deco trader 3 needs level 34 as well. Something our guild has gotten weeks ago.

I suppose for upgrading decorations it indeed could become quite annoying if you want to keep certain things un-upgraded. (Those piles of snow, for example, make a great JP making tool, as well as floating ledges where ever you like)

Still a nice guide btw. I saw that brown pigment seems to be the thing that is really the most expensive, and I probably gonna just slowly upgrade our guild stuff, as I’m all out of money for the pigment, and wouldn’t really want to waste it on Guild Banquets. =P

WvW upgrades at least might be interesting once ArenaNet does their magic WvW thing they have planned in I dunno how many months.

Well after the initial wave of players are done with scribing the price will fall, and since (even with the guide) it still costs about 1000 gold (if you would have to buy everything from the trading post) to level a scribe from 0-400 and that they can mainly make guild related items (so if you have 1 in your guild you are good to go) i doubt that many players will level them (besides the AP hunters). Still i have to say i’m amazed by the number of guests we already got to welcome to level their scribe.

Due to that we actually found out that you can have a maximum of 250 items in stock waiting for processing….and the problem is that if you are at that maximum, scribes can no longer craft that schematic. (so if you try to scribe something and it will not work… ask your guild leader to check if the processing stack is full)

We already got so many schematics crafted that our process device will be busy none stop for the next 2 years!!!! (unless we speed it up)

Still, it makes you wonder how the defs thought while making this……

Dev 1 : “Hey what shall we do with the item limit for processing in the new guild system, will 100 be enough?”
Dev 2: “Well lets leave it at our standard stack size of 250, then no guild will ever have trouble with it getting full”
Dev 1 : “Ok lets do that then”

250 is more than enough really. It’s a product of your own success. It just means people need to find a different guild with a scribing station.
It’s a nice way of getting alot of donated decorations though. Im wondering why not more guilds sign up for something like this. (mine doesnt have all decoration traders)

Hi Gaile, thanks for this info, it’s a huge relief for me and anyone else trying to complete the Winter’s Presence shoulders. However, I do have a few questions that I would like to ask, and hope you have the answers to.

  • Will the candy cane achievement be given similar treatment? It’s not required for the shoulders, but it’s still one that is on a similar progression scale as Festive Imbiber.
  • Will FI and the candy cane achievement progress the Wintersday meta after Jan 12? This is mainly a curiosity thing, am interested to know if the meta achieve will be locked after Jan 12 is over, even though anyone that really wants the meta won’t need it.
  • Will FI and the candy cane achievement’s progress carry to next Wintersday, similar to the Grawnk ones did from last year? Just another curiosity deal.

I will see what I can learn about these questions, as well. Thank you, Kamui.

Is there any update on this? I’m quite interested if the Sweet Tooth title is also available throughout the year. Or at least that progress on it is saved and coming back. Or anything of that sort.

Exactly, it’s a matter of perception. In fact I agree it’s indeed a different kind of buff, though obviously still a buff. Talking of food buffs, this is technically a just type of food that lasts for 24 hours. The difference is that it’s “free”(once unlocked) and instantly consumes on purchase, and doesn’t stack with other buffs.

To be honest, I don’t think it really matters whether it’s substantially different or not. Hence I put some other points there.

I’m not disagreeing, But I don’t see this buff as the same buff. Because I have this all the time and I never did before. It really is a different animal. I’m not saying it’s not a problem that we lost the first animal however.

It was a buff before and it’s still a buff now to most people. Other than that I think that removing the previous iteration of the buff just prevents needless stacking of said values.

But you do hit on the origin of this problem.

The important things are that these were advertised to be a replacement:

From: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/rethinking-guilds/

The broad category of guild boosts—upgrades that give a benefit to guild members for a limited period of time—felt invisible and unengaging to the average guild member. We’re replacing these with permanent unlocks. Some, like the waypoint cost reduction, will apply permanently for all guild members without any need for interaction. Others, like the World vs. World fort enhancements, will apply permanently in the appropriate situation—the fort enhancements will always apply to the region of any WvW objective your guild claims as long as you hold the objective. Those attached to specific modes of play, such as the WXP or magic find boosters, are being replaced by a new guild-effects slot that functions like food and utility effects. Once your guild unlocks them, these effects will be available from a vendor in your tavern. Each guild member can only have one effect active at a time, but they’re free to swap and effectively never expire.

And that new functionalities are not available to non-HoT owners. Which entirely conflicts with the whole “replacing” phrasing.
From: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Guilds-and-Guild-Halls/5195339

By virtue of the guild hall maps being out in the jungle, you’ll need access to those expansion maps in order to initially liberate your hall from the dragon. Once you’ve cleared out your guild hall, though, guild members who don’t own the expansion will be able to travel to the hall via a fast travel button in their guild panel. Benefiting from new content in the hall will require owning the expansion, but you’ll be able to benefit from existing functionality without it (e.g., using the guild bank, running missions, etc).

In the end, it is just a buff, but also a thing that made guilds attractive. The scope of these guilds buffs are beyond just a slight change in time and bound to the guild or guild member.

The fact it is placed in the “community centric part” of the guild hall, I would say it definitely would benefit from not splitting communities over this minor replacement/new functionality halfbreed.

Plus what most people said. It’s a douchbag move to update something to merely place that update behind the expansion. I don’t think anyone thinks it’s not an updated buff which indeed functions quite differently.

The old Guild Buffs were taken away because of said “new and improved” Guild Buffs.

There wouldn’t be a problem if both coexist. But they don’t.

By your logic, you shouldn’t be able to access fractals without buying HoT. Because that is also entirely “new”.

Careful, you’re moving into fallacious argument territory. (The irony!) It’s not relevant which games I have or haven’t played.

I have HoT, btw. I have no problem paying for new content. But needing to pay for things I had before feels weird. (Obviously that wasn’t the reason I did get HoT) And that’s what people are complaining about.

Not sure why you said you can sympathise, and then you don’t even seem to know what the complaint seems to be.

It should be quite evident to understand that in MMOs you are left out without the current expansion. But I have sympathy for people who can’t even claim a simple buff.

Generally though, I think it’s fallacious to complain about a feature they can’t use be cause they deny to buy an expansion. The attitude towards the whole media landscape nowadays is quite questionable: shows, movies and games get pirated everyday. Many people don’t understand that it costs a lot of money and passion to create such a product. If you are – even after hundreds/thousands of spent hours – too greedy to pay a free-to-play game with no drawbacks then you deserve to be left out of certain parts and new features.

It’s fallacious to complain?
Oh dear.

Under these circumstances yes.

While I would agree that it is a bit silly to complain in that case, (Though fallacious? Really?) this is hardly a new feature.

I get the whole “It’s only fair to pay for stuff” thing you’re talking about. But it’s totally not applicable to this actual situation. And surely it doesn’t excuse low tactics to force people into buying the expansion, by rebranding certain features.

This is part of the reason WvW is emptier. Everything is stuck behind a new progression system, every guild that was interested in WvW got their carefully built up siege resources and buffs and even some standard functionalities cut off and placed into the expansion. Because please buy the expansion! The new progression towards old stuff is way awesome! And the sad thing is, HoT doesn’t even add that much to WvW that is actually new.

And the “new” old guild buffs fit in this case as well.

Is this really the road we want ArenaNet to take? (Does ArenaNet?) Take away older features and rebrand them into new ones, and then sell them under an expansion.

Precursor Crafting Overpriced?

FrizzFreston.5290

People Complain about Rng Factor of Precursors -> Anet Adds Crafting for 100% Guarantee of one -> People still complain

._.

I’m guessing that people who complain about price want anet to constantly update the recipes every 2-3 days to ensure the materials required is on par with what players put their precursors for?

Not even that … they think they should be CHEAPER than what players put up their precursors for. You don’t need a Ph. D. in Economics to know why that is nonsense.

Game economics is half designed, half actual economics. It’s a matter of how many of the precursors you want in your game vs how obtainable you want them to be.

So what some people really wanted is for precursors to be easier to obtain, in general.
Which is totally up for debate.

It’s not a matter of that at all, because it’s evident that Anet didn’t implement crafting with the goal of making them more obtainable. People sure do have a knack for imagining what they want and thinking it’s what it should be. I don’t believe there is any debate if precursors should be easier to obtain because regardless of what the results of that debate is, it’s not relevant.

Its always a matter of that, it’s just that ArenaNet made the decision on that already. (is what you mean to say) ArenaNet designed it one way, and some players thought it a different way. It just means players had different expectations and formed different opinions about it. It’s that simple. And the relevance of people’s opinion on that matter is always relevant to ArenaNet.

Though I don’t think that the difference between TP price and crafted price is that relevant at all, as the two methods are entirely different in the way they are executed.
