“Seriously, you’re moaning about some new free content like a little girl..”
The fact you said moan like a little girl instead of a grown woman is part of the reason I don’t think you have much ground to stand on.
“They won’t have a kneejerk decision, I’m sure there’s going to be multiple meetings for this current situation before they address the customers.”
Like the kneejerk reaction they didn’t have to adding an armor tier?
NO! Gear should be insanely hard to get! Can’t you see people, if you have lives and jobs you’re doing it wrong, you need to be in fractals 24/7 to get the best infusion for the PRIVILIDGE of farming fractals and more all the future content! Those of you that support us in WvW are doing it wrong! Those of you that like to gather herbs are doing it wrong! It’s all about the fuschia man, and there’s nothing else to it. Now get to fractals for the next 22 hours until your finger bleed with boredom or L2P nub!
“In the old dungeons, you’re right. My comment was purely in the direction of the ‘ascended tier’, which aims more at lazy. Even worse is i would have played the heck out of fractals had they not shoehorned in a crap stat bump.”
I agree, I probably wouldn’t have stopped playing and been doing fractals a lot if ascended wasn’t around. All I’d have asked if the ability to bump allies up to your max difficulty, but now I’d consider that to be a hand-off type fix.
“So instead of contributing to the thread, you rather throw a wall of text at me, questioning what I said. Being rude, and condescending little troll, because I know what I am talking about, and you don’t?
Ok, I’ll bite, Guild Wars 1, was not an MMO, it is actually listed as a Co op RPG. Anet themselves will tell you that. Go ahead look it up.
Now, when you’re ready to sit at the adult table and contribute constructively, we will all be waiting. Until then, like your mom used to tell you, “If you haven’t anything nice to say, then don’t say nothing at all.”"
This thread is completely a stop arguing thread with the people who were complaining that gear grinding should be added yelling as us for telling them you bought a game that said, on the box, -no gear grind or tiers-. Now that ANet was bought out and gear grind was added, we’re asking to get it removed and beign told maybe we just hate a whole genre and how we should think.
And you call me immature. Please, do me a favor, go here and sign up for them, it might help you communicate your points properly in the future. http://www.1-language.com/
As long as we are talking about this : I assume you are new to GW in general. ANet said their game was a CORPG as it had different focuses from the norm of MMOs. I still have the boxes that state MMO right on ‘em, because it is one. Go look it up and tell me how many times you do not find MMO listed with GW. This like saying Swat4 isn’t a FPS because it’s a tactical shooter game. There’s a distinction, but B can be A as well.
Please stop this, the only person being childish here is you. You barge in, tell people what they have to believe, and then tell them cyan isn’t blue because only royal blue is blue and then wonder why they tell you you do not know what blue is.
“GW1 was not an MMO, it was a co op RPG, with some multiplayer tacked on.
GW2 is an MMO.
My point is, I fail to see why ppl get upset about a game being what it is supposed to be, an MMO. You obviously said it yourself, you like the “idea” of MMO’s, but to me it seems like you are more into RPG’s."
I love this malarchy. Next thing Cities XL was never an MMO and neither is Eve.
Also, while I’m at it, Portal isn’t a first person because it lacks the shooter part. It’s a 2D puzzle game, obviously.
MMO means massively online multiplayer. RPG means role playing game. Put them toghether and it means massively multiplayer online role playing game. Gear grind is a factor of it that can be turned on off. Fantasy is a factor of it that can be turned on off. What you need is two things : You control a dude, arrange his equipment, have many people online at once.
FPS means First Person Shooter – jumping is optional but generally there (it’s not in doom), aiming down the iron sights is optional but generally there (not in UT), all you need is two things : First person view, and a gun.
Next I expect to hear dawn of war 2 and supreme commander aren’t strategy games because gasp they aren’t starcraft. Obviously only starcraft must represent all strategy games and all strategy games without it’s exact setup must be some sort of “overland control game”.
GW2 was advertised as an MMO. GW2 was advertised as no gear progression. GW2 changed it’s advertisment and we are angry. Stop trying to tell me what I do and do not like based on what you think. Turkey and chicken are both poultry no matter how hard you scream turkey is not.
On a side note – I also love the idea of MobAs but have yet to play a balanced one. Does that mean I also hate mobas?
“I think 80% of people who want this game to be 100% fair for everyone with no gear progression are just lazy, and need a reason to blame some game mechanic for their mistakes and failures in game. They are the “entitled” “I want it now” generation. They are the ones who buy a singler player game, use all the cheat codes for the good weapons or w/e, and are completely bored and done with the game hours later, but yet wonder why.”
Ok this is becoming my favourite argument. We’re entitled for wanting to enjoy our games when we come home from work and life – while that YOU who can farm 14-20 hours a day to are not entitled since you WORK at the game instead. We are totally the entitled ones.
On a side note, the only times I ever cheat at a game is if I get to end game and it asks me to grind up for hours. I think the last time I did this was when NWN2 told me to grind up 5 levels before it let me into an epic dungeon and the only enemies around were respawning raptors.
Rest of the time I play it on the hardest difficulty because I enjoy that. Also, I did fractals up to 5 and all of them are really easy, granted a tad boring due to the really high HP every boss has. I simply did not want to have to repeat that dungeon another 50~ times to get the next tier of armour while feeling like everything could be going faster with the improved stats which I was promised I would never have to farm.
(edited by GADefence.5634)
I love how people can’t figure out MMO means massively multiplayer online game.
For some odd reason, they seem to think it means Mgear Mgrind Ogame. I can’t figure out where they came up with mgear, mgrind or ogame, they aren’t in the dictionary.
There were a lot of different options for progression, unfortunately, Nexon seems to have mandated ANet goes with the easiest.
“You end up leaving because most MMO’s make you grind. Well that’s because that’s how MMO’s work. "
I don’t really see the irony. I like FPSers, yet that doesn’t mean I like all of them. I’ve played a lot of MMOs, I liked some of them (GW1, on again off again with STO, I played a few others for quite a while that I forgot over time). I just have a very keen edge to a grind fest now, seeing as I left GW2 within 2 days of the game announcing one after playing GW1 for 7 years and am now looking for a new fun MMO to play.
Again, I will put it to you – I like the idea behind most MMOs I just think they fail at their execution. Your square hole/round pegging me again. I like fighting games, yet I don’t play them excedingly frequently because I do really feel like playing mortal kombat again or street fighter, I did that enough when I was young. Still like stuff like little fighter 2. Obviously, must mean I hate fighting games. Haven’t played an FPS in a few months since blacklight went P2W, obvliously, must hate FPSs.
“There is always going to be players who just don’t get MMO’s and want everything handed to them with no time put in, they are looking for a “fair” arcade beat em up, in the wrong place.”
I love how I’ve played and gotten bored of nearly all MMOs on the market and generally enjoy most of them for a bit (until I need to start 100% grinding) so I must obviously want to play mortal kombat.
Sorry mate, square hole round peg, stop trying to force me through your pre conceptions.
“On any MMO forum. I see this on the WoW forums as well, and that game is far from “dying”.”
Didn’t WoW lose 30% of it’s subscribers (or 3 mil of 12 mil, which is a tad less then 30%, I can’t remember which) recently?
“Imagine you go to McDonald’s and order a Happy Meal, you get your burger take 1 bite and then they rip it off from you, replacing it with tofu sausages”
Oh come on now. Tofu is still perfectly edible, and probably tastier then mickey D’s. You should have said dead rat. That’d get their knickers in a twist!
There were people in GW1 who said you needed L20 and max armour to do the northern wall mission.
There will always be elitism, and it’ll only get worst if ANet caters to the WoW crowd (and the game lives for more then 4 months).
“They should not be punished for following a management directive.”
Actually, considering nexon basically forced ANet to hire someone to make the game more “profit centric” (read: what people think people will spend money on) and that she basically made the game take the same steps every other game took 1-3 months before they horribly horribly died, I think I agree that she need a good bout of the old firing.
Anyway, I like how the WoW fanbase that game hops in between WoW updates and kills them off so only their favored holy game/religion succeed is kittening at all of us (I’m sure most of us being people who pre ordered and supported ANet in development. . .) that we’re the ones who don’t get it. I’m just hoping that ANet can recover after the inevitable fail in a few months.
Again, ups and downs (but a first decent step). Now I wonder how long until they break this promise like they did no new tiers?
“EDIT: Fractal lvl doesn’t reset.”
Fractals level was stated as resetting every week. Unless that was cut, which would be good and bad, you could eventually work up to where everyone normally stops but it’d still take a while.
It really rages me when people don’t know english and debate words, like my grind vs farm post in the other thread.
As per wiki : Guild Wars is an episodic series of online 3D fantasy role-playing games developed by ArenaNet and published by NCsoft. Because it deviated from traditional MMORPG norms in a number of areas, like instancing all the gameplay areas, and that it focused more on player vs. player (PvP) than most online RPGs, it was marketed as competitive online role-playing game.1 It provides two main modes of gameplay—a cooperative role-playing component and a competitive PvP component—both of which are hosted on ArenaNet’s servers. Three stand-alone episodes and one expansion pack were released in the series from April 2005 to August 2007.
As per wiki : Massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) is a genre of role-playing video games in which a very large number of players interact with one another within a virtual game world.
Stop thinking WoW == the only type of MMO. By your standards, Cities XL wasn’t an MMO (before it closed it’s servers since it really blew at being an MMO) because it wasn’t WoW. I assume those persistant air plane MMOs also aren’t MMOs because you don’t have a knight and a horse, but an air plane.
Please, seriously, stop arguing words and saying “I must fit this square peg into this round hole!” It’s annoying.
“Now by the time the casuals get the exotics. it will be
“LF2m +10agony only”"
Actually., you’re wrong with this statement.
By the time they get exotics it’ll be “LF Fractals 10 agony only difficulty 12 no diff 1 newbs”
The difficulty thing is stupid too, we’re already seeing people say “difficulty 5” within 1 day of release (yes it’s reachable within 1 day, I got there with my guild – we’d have been at 8 if we could have brougth in replacement and continued instead of restarted) This will massively break up the community. Had something to do on monday/whatever day resets? Too bad, you’re boned for the week, no one will run less then max difficulty and even if you get 5-8 done in a day it’ll be +5/10 the next morning.
ANet, really, what the hell happened? This patch is FUBARED beyond belief.
Oh, too add to funny converastions in LA.
1: Got I hate that they added ascended grind to the game.
2: How is ascended a grind? I like ascended armour.
1: It’s a grind since you have to get ascended armour.
2: No it’s a grind if you don’t like something and I like getting new stats so it’s not a grind.
1: Look. It’s a grind if you’re FORCED to do it, it’s a farm if you WANT to do it. People FARM gold since it’s normally optional, people GRIND gear since they get left behind without it.
2: You must just not play many MMORPGs.
“Anet has done what no other MMO company has managed in a long time, they made a fun game. The pve is fun, the pvp is a blast, and I thank them for that, We’ll see what they do in the future, but I think their heads are in the right place atm.”
The issue is most of the anet staff has been replaced and they’ve stopped making a fun game.
“Well you can seemingly run t1 and get the one item that you need from these dungeons but if you cant do that much may be you do not need these items because its just so painful that your reward of the “self view” ideal that your week in wvw. Its on you to get your gear to what level you want its no one else job to tell you how to play or what to do.”
O.o
Dear god, the community’s collective intelligence must have flatlined after the WoW locusts returned.
Do I really have to tell you why this is really a bad statement?
This game should not be a JOB. T6 mats are goign to skyrocket. These people probably bought gold (and considering how conditioned they are to it in WoW I doubt from ANet’s gem store), the dungeons are 50% boring, and this is going against ANet’s do anything (WvW sPvP real PvE dungeons) philosophy.
So wrong, so many levels.
“Same goofy mechanics in all 3 dungeons: swarms of veteran mobs, or some god mode mob that one shots you. How is this fun?
Actually if you’re getting one shot by most of the mobs in fractals, I’m a little surprised. Fractals is quite a bit boring to me due to the fact that most of the end bossess do next to nothing and are easy to kill but have like 5-10 minutes worth of beating on them to get them dead.
Only exception I can remember is Dulfy who either one shots the party by spawning in 4 billion arrow cart attacks or just stands there and dies pretty fast.
“Where are you finding one-hit boss kills?”
Giganticus Lupicus does it quite frequently, the AC bossess can do it but it’s easy to dodge.
Dulfy in fractals can do it depends on weither or not she goes insane on the arrow carts or not.
“Actually you just inspired me, naked lupicus run with level 80 weapons sometime this week lol full party.”
Been there done that.
" The Mechanics are quite good."
Except for the broken swamp path. God. you need skype for it >.<
And yes, it’s pretty good except for the obvious gear grind BS.
Having multiple districts instead of overflow servers and selecting a layer of the mists (Jade Quarry, Dragonbrand, etc) would have handled guesting and WvW and this >.>
“Absolutely no way for the trinity. It’s one of the reasons why I was so interested in the game. If they changed everything and put it in, I’d be out.”
If I didn’t have a guild of 100, I’d already be out.
Well great, I’m just going to have a 1x bigger diameter easier time pooping tonight instead of a 2.5×. . . Great.
Thanks for the correction. Is it blue tiered or white?
“gear grind or not good luck finding an MMO that has one so small.”
I love how you name is underdog when you obviously don’t want them.
Also, there is a reason a good percentage of us who play GW2 do not play other MMOs. It’s also why we would have stayed with GW2, while a hell of a lot of others will simply move on in (minimum time for ascended + 5 days) days.
“So are guilds using pick ups until final boss then kicking them to invite their friends to get the 60 tokens at the end? :/”
IIRC this happens enough there’s a subreddit on shaming them.
“It sure is a hostile week, sensitive peoples out here!”
You’re basically going into a realistic first person shooter and telling everyone there be melee weapons, third person combat, looting and jetpacks. Then calling everyone sensitive when they say why don’t you go play a game that does that, like borderlands or something.
“They can’t just pull the plug on the new dungeon they spent hours on developing, coding, testing etc. There is no magic switch in programming and business.”
We’re not asking them to pull the plug on the new dungeon – just the new kitteny mechanic and armour they slapped together quickly to appeal the grind crowd.
It doesn’t take to long to code
“if instancearea == fractals apply agony”
“agonyupdate { targetplayer.hp -= .1%*(dungeon.difficulty – targetplayer.armour.infusiondefense > 0 ? 1 : dungeon.difficulty – target.player.armour.infusiondefense)}”
“ascended || armour { slots == new slot(infusion) }”
The best part is when it’s 3 guildies with 2 pugs and the pugs kick you all out at the end.
ANet, please don’t fall back on your no trinity promise either : Do not listen to these people. It’s enough we have Ascended gear, we need more originality like this.
To the OP : If tanking and healing is what you want, the market is saturated with what you want. Can I get you to look at those products?
Considering you can (potentially) spec tough vit healing power, you can spec healing tank.
“My guess is that ascended gear won’t make a big difference. Barely visible if my calculations are correct.”
Your calculations are completely wrong : For one, infusion adds agony and other stats and ANet already said both are going to be increased over time.
“Diablo 3 threw the Diablo 2 fans under the bus to make more money.”
How many people still play Diablo 3?
Seriously answer please, I avoided it since it’s a new blizzard title, and to me all blizzard titles suck.
“Even before you was able to evade a sommoned phatom… LOL”
I don’t mean that. I mean can you evade the summoning skill used to GET the phantom since it’s a regular attack – EX: Does summoning the phantom fail if you press 4 while someone is dodging?
“If this is a GW1 clone, then it will be a niche game just like the first and later mmo titles will steal the majority of player time.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_PC_video_games
I love how this “niche game” is in the top games sold of all time. . .
Do realize, WoW (all combined) has sold less then the Sims 2.
There’s no item progression in the Sims 2.
“Then there are the Hearts. Go catch some bugs and feed them to cows, but only the correct bugs to the correct cows. WTF? Others are just as bad.”
You can get this heart completed A LOT faster by going to the 5 cows out front and doing emotes to them. The lonely cow wants someone to sit with him, for instance.
Diessa plateau was ok at launch due to how many people were there but it is pretty bad now.
Side note : Most of the hearts are ok. It’s a Charr zone. Charr fight.
“Also, I think ANet’s priorities are a bit off track, especially if they only have 2 designers working on balance issues. "
Sorry to tell you you’re wrong there – they have Izzy and someone else working on the balance issues, meaning they have 1 person (maybe) trying to fix stuff while Izzy changes stats at random with no consideration for what it actually does.
It’s the trial.
No one who’s working on ascended gear is in a level 0 zone.
The new content and ascended gear brought back old players – the trial brought in new players.
We can argue which will make them stay (I say content, some will agre, some will say gear), but the newbies are here thanks to the trial – a lot of people playing with their friends on alts is why the low levels are full (I got 4 people on myself)
“2x Eldritch Scroll 100 x Passion Flowers 250 x Powerful Venom Sacs 50 x Mystic Coins
Makes malign versatile infusion.
+5 condition damage +5 resist agony"
lolwut?
ANet did succeed at one thing. This did bridge the gap between legendaries and ascended. A fine infusion takes 70% of the time of a legendary!
info as per reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/139oth/consortium_chest_contents_thread/
(edited by GADefence.5634)
Does this mean you can evade phantom summons now?
“I honestly think if this game had a subscription either the dev’s would listen too us or the patches would be more thought out.
Games with subs’ that last going on almost 10 years… work for a reason I guess?"
If 700 people try something and 699 fail, that’s not proof that the last guy had a super secret good technique going that should be replicated. That’s proof he got lucky.
WoW works because it got lucky to be the first big social MMO game were people invited their friends. They’re rolling off that, and from what I hear, losing steam (-3 mil subs in the last year? How many more next year?)
“Wow. If that wasn’t a canned answer, I don’t know what is. They better be paying you pretty well Izzy because its obvious you traded in your passion.”
Izzy never had passion for GW2. He’s been the biggest blight to the GW communities ever.
“repeat IS a gear treadmill of sorts”
Don’t speak of things you know nothing of. A gear run would be what this could be called a best – you go from point A to point B and you stop. A threadmill doesn’t stop – we got top tiered items, exotics, and a new tier was added, so we had to run there again.
Secondly, the “small stat upgrade” you speak of seems to be around 30-40% from items and I hear the infusion its self gives you upgrades to (extrapolated from what I saw of a post on a universal ring buff vs the triforge pendant/ruby pendant stats).
This means the buffs are anywhere from 15% to 50%, depending on how accurate the extrapolation is, and depending on how much the infusion bonus is.
We need more evidence, but what IS evident is this is not small.
“The longterm problem still exists though. As the gear progression progresses, dungeons HAVE to become harder to do. Otherwise, you’ll get to a point where dungeons really are a faceroll and the progressers quit anyways. But this means that people who stuck to their 80 exotics eventually won’t have high enough stats to complete those dungeons, and thus you have gated content.”
TBH, ANet will probably do what they did in GW1 (which I consider ok) and just give you ascended armour that’s a base state of good when they upgrade.
I love how the thief became OP in WvW. . . 1’200 range scorpion wire? Well, at least it’s bugged and only works 1/3~ of the time.
“It’s always been two people or really small.
I’m more curious as to the size of the bug catchers/fixers, and profession concern/ development team. Cause those all will have to interact with balance at some point.
People need to stop making the assumption that teams live in a vacuum."
It used to be worst in GW1. We had a guy called Isaiah Cartwright, knows as Izzy. He did these really wonky and generally kitten balance patches that made no sense. . .
And I’m sad now. I just googled his name to make sure I got it right and I found it he’s involved in the GW2 economy. No wonder it’s such a stupid mess that isn’t getting fixed.
IZZY STRIKES AGAIN!
(edited by GADefence.5634)
I noticed this too and loled.
I’m curious, who else thinks Izzy is back on the balance team considering how dumb this balance patch was?
“ON the contrary, they say clearly they weren’t expecting the reason that led them to introduce ascended gear to happen.
So, if you believe them, how could ascended be already on the drawing board if they weren’t expecting to need it?"
“No you didn’t clearly post anything saying nothing was going to be stronger than exotic. You posted them saying that legendary matches best in slot and than exotic was currently best in slot.”
I’m still waiting for you people to get a fraction the memory of a goldfish.
Promise : Exotics == Legendary
Promise : No Gear Progression
Happened : Exotics < Ascended == Legendary
Happened : Gear Progression
Ergo : Promise Broken.
And don’t say “Well ANet didn’t promise not to add vertical progress WHILE legendaries were equal to exotics!” because that’s just plain dumb.
It was also stated harder difficulty gets you more relics. So it’s possible “good” (heavily farmed) players can get 300+ fractals in a run. . . Which will shortly be nerfed so all the people who do it right away get tons of obsidian shards, screw the economy up more, and then complain about nothing to do in 4 days anyway while our relic rate gets nerf by 5’000%.
Awesome!
“Not going to happen, and again they never promised exotic would be the last tier.
Also this may not be an official “expansion” but this is them opening up a new zone to play in. It’s basically a micro-expansion."
They promised no vertical progress. Exotics was the vertical limit. Ascended beats exotics. Egro, they promised exotics was the limit and broke their promise.
And don’t say ascended isn’t vertical progress. It’s better, and became required.
Sir Moogie, I think you’re slightly right in this. I think they’ll do fire/water/agony/etc. But, considering their wording, I think they’ll do ‘Omni’ as well – if this is limited to attack/defense vs attack/defense to every type of infusionable content. . .
Also, you’ll need to do fractals for the backpiece / ring. Then, you do the next one for the next stuff. Hence, the newest stuff gates the prior stuff, and only a small portion of the community will rally to complete the oldest content and move on to the newer content.
